writing sonnets (melissa schemmenti x f!reader)
synopsis: your students tease you relentlessly and melissa can't help but to join in
words: ~1.4k
warnings: none i think? wholesome borderline crack
note: im not sure i ever actually gender the reader here? but f!reader to cover my own ass<3
Don’t get it twisted - you love the inquisitive nature of your students, you really do. It’s something every eighth grade English teacher longs for. But your fourth period class has a certain knack for getting you off topic with their curiosity. On this particular day - a Friday, so blissfully close to freedom - you have relinquished all control and let them fall down the rabbit hole of fanfiction, of all things. Leave it to middle schoolers.
They had only been learning about first, second, and third person narration - so innocuous, you didn’t see how you could possibly be derailed. Maybe you’d make it through the lesson, and you could relish in the four minutes of silence you get between periods, and-
“Where is second person narration used?” Angel doesn’t bother raising his hand, and you don’t bother admonishing him.
You think briefly. “Honestly, not many pieces of published works use it - not that I’ve seen, anyway. We don’t talk about it much. I’ve really only seen the second person used in one place.”
You intend to leave it at that, but of course, Angel pushes.
“Where?” he asks.
In the second you use to inhale before tackling the question, Kennedy takes the liberty of answering: “Fanfiction, duh. That self-insert stuff.”
You can’t help it - a laugh bubbles out, and this is the moment everything begins to spiral.
“Yeah,” you collapse into your desk chair, “Kennedy’s right. Fanfiction.”
Kennedy takes the opportunity - it’s been presented to her on a silver platter, really. “You know about fanfiction, Y/L/N?”
“Sweetheart, my generation invented fanfiction. And I’m a writer. This was my game before you were even born.”
Angel is on his feet, his hands slamming on his desk and his voice rising with excitement, “WHERE CAN WE READ YOUR FANFICTION?”
“Oh, my God, no. You can’t. It’s not on the internet or anything, I’d just, like… send it to my friends, or whatever,” you insist, hands coming to cover your red face as you laugh.
The class, buzzing with chatter and giggles, continues to harass you. “So, what, Ms Schemmenti reads your fanfiction?”
Your hands are still covering your face. “No, Ms Schemmenti most certainly does not!”
“That’s because the fanfiction is about Ms Schemmenti. Y’all see how Y/L/N be looking at her in the halls,” someone says, and several others voice their agreement.
“She’s down bad for real.”
“What?!” your head snaps up, eyes searching for whoever made the comment. The bell rings before you can get your answer. “Get out of my room, you absolute little monsters. Have a good weekend, please read chapter th- oh, okay, you’re gone. Cool. Awesome.”
You look at the camera. It zooms in on your red, deadpan face. You drop your forehead onto the desk.
-
When you walk into the lounge at the end of the day, you slump into the chair beside Janine, who’s engaged in a conversation about a scrabble tournament (sober scrabble - boring) with Jacob and Gregory. Barbara listens, not contributing, surely stockpiling the information so she can tell Melissa later. Melissa, who is thankfully not in the room at the moment. You think you would burst into flames.
Janine halts her conversation about triple word scores when you throw yourself down into the chair by her.
“Rough day?” Janine asks tentatively.
“Long. The kids were focused on literally anything other than The Outsiders.”
Janine nods. “I get it. Fridays, y’know? It’s always hard to keep them on task.”
“Well, Y/N,” Jacob starts with a smirk, “my students were actually pretty interested in the topics of your class today. It’s all they could talk about when they sat down for seventh period.”
You glare at him hard and warn, “Jacob. Do not.”
Janine looks back and forth between you both and turns to Gregory. “Is there something I’m missing?”
“No,” you say sternly. Your eyes don’t leave Jacob’s shit-eating grin. “Not a thing.”
Jacob, it seems, has exceptionally few survival instincts and carries on giddily, “Y/N’s students found out she writes fanfiction-“
And, oh, good, Barbara is listening now, too. “Fan-fiction?”
“Why is everyone saying that word today? It’s all I’ve been hearing in the halls since, like, fourth period.” Melissa asks, striding into the break room and taking the seat next to you.
“I’m going to have to transfer schools,” you say, closing your eyes.
Melissa pays this no mind. “All the older kids keep looking at me, too. It’s weird.”
You glare daggers at Jacob, whose face must hurt from the width of his smile.
“So weird!” Jacob says innocently.
Melissa narrows her eyes.
“Why are you being weird? And not normal Jacob weird,” she questions, turning to you. “Why is he being weird?”
You slam your boot into Jacob’s shin under the table. “He’s not. No one’s being weird.”
Melissa’s eyes flick back and forth between the two of you suspiciously. “Okay, someone tell me right now - what the hell is a fanfiction, and what does it have to do with me? And, apparently, Y/N?”
“Melissa, I am so glad you’ve asked, allow me to explain-“ Jacob starts, leaning across the table toward Melissa.
“Oh my God,” you cut him off. Time to swallow your pride.
You explain the situation… sort of. You explain in a watered-down way that incriminates you less.
“So, yeah, they found out, and because I said ‘friend’ they connected it to you, and they misconstrued the whole thing, and it’s literally not a big deal-“ you're rambling and she knows it.
“Wait,” Gregory stops you, “so this is why I heard Angel say ‘Y/L/N be writing sonnets about that red hair’ during lunch?”
Janine raises her eyebrows. “‘Sonnet?’ Pretty good vocab word.”
“Thank you, Janine! And thank you for focusing on the important part of the matter at hand: my impeccable teaching skills.”
“So,” Barbara chimes in, “do you or do you not write these little stories about Melissa?”
“Barbara!” You’re mortified. “No! I do not!”
At long last, Melissa speaks. You don’t need to look at her to know there’s a smirk on her lips. “She doesn’t need to. Clearly, the material writes itself.”
“Melissa,” you plead.
Melissa laughs that laugh, the one that makes the corners of your mouth turn up despite your discomfort.
“Maybe that could be your end-of-the-year writing project for the kids - make them write that fanfiction,” Melissa teases.
“You’re just as bad as Angel!” You laugh incredulously and let your hand smack Melissa’s shoulder. The others don’t miss the way Melissa doesn’t break your fingers at the gesture.
In fact, Melissa's eyes soften as she bumps your shoulder with her own. “No, no, I can see it - newbie woos the Philly Eleven. There’s potential there.”
You roll your eyes. “Well, I am pretty charming.”
“I’m going home,” Barbara stands up with a polite (if somewhat exasperated) smile, “Very glad we got this out of the way. Have a good weekend, everyone. Y/N… call me later.”
Barbara pats Melissa’s shoulder with a pointed look toward you, and takes her leave rapidly.
“Uh,” you stare after her. “Yep. Bye, Barb.”
Melissa’s eyebrow quirks up. “What was that?”
“Dunno,” you reply. “I’m sure you’ll know everything approximately five minutes after I hang up with her, though, so don’t worry.”
Janine butts in (ah, yeah, the nerds are still here), “You guys call Barbara? Can I have her cell number? I always want to ask her but-“
“No,” you and Melissa say in unison, and Janine sighs heavily.
You heave out a sigh of your own. “I need to go home - moreover I need to be somewhere no one is asking me about my nonexistent fanfiction habits.”
You stand, and Melissa stands with you as you both gather your belongings. “Impossible. I have your phone number.”
You “accidentally” smack Melissa with your purse, and Melissa “mistakenly” shoves her chair into your leg in a way that makes your knee buckle, and the rest of the Abbot crew watch the scene in morbid fascination. Because the cold hard truth is that if anyone else had dared to do… well, any of this, Melissa would be shoving her earrings into her pocket and removing her heels. Fight or fight instinct, y’know?
Instead, though, she just swears at you in Italian as you head for the door, grinning widely when you return the sentiment in plain english.
Ava entering the lounge halts you in your tracks.
“Y’all will never guess what Angel just emailed me,” Ava exclaims, holding up her phone. “Did you know he knows the word ‘sonnet’? Proud of him.”
“Forward me that?”
Another smack from you. “Melissa, stop!”

And We Go On
Day 4 for the Eight Nights of Mulder: endurance and my prompt for the 24 Days of X-Mas Files Challenge: bad Christmas puns
Summary: On the car ride after they said goodbye to Emily, Mulder tries his best to ease some of Scully's pain. (emotional hurt/comfort with some humor thrown in; wc: 1,134)
Tagging @today-in-fic @eightnightsofmulder
They're wrapped in a coat of silence as they step outside the church, their steps in perfect sync. What is there to say, anyway? What do you say to someone who's just said goodbye to the child she didn't know she had? Mulder opens the car door for Scully and lingers there until she has put her seatbelt on.
A few yards away, Scully's family is still smiling and fawning over baby Matthew, and he hopes he's blocking Scully's view. After laying her own daughter to rest, she doesn't need to see this. If he could take her pain away, he would in a heartbeat. All he can do, however, is be here for her, and follow her lead.
Inside the car, there's neither enough space, nor air. When the silence threatens to crush them, Mulder turns on the radio. Soft melodies fill the car, and he fears he's only making things worse.
"Can we drive a while?" Her question cuts through the tension and stuns him. He clears his throat before he says, "Of course." Scully hardly ever asks for anything, and he's prepared to give her everything. He'd drive her to the end of the world if that's what she wanted.
"I'm just not ready to face everything yet." A crack in her voice and her armor.
"It's okay. We can drive all day."
"My family would worry."
"Eh, just tell them it's my fault." It feels like it, too. He'll do his penance. In front of a God he doesn't believe in, if he has to. Anything for her. He glances over at Scully, shocked at how ashen her face is and how devoid of life. Only weeks ago, the color returned to her cheeks. After she beat her cancer, he thought this was it. He thought they were in the clear. But there's always something else waiting for them, trying to take them down.
Years ago, Scully told him how much she loved Christmas. They were younger then, their friendship new and untarnished. She told him about Scully family traditions and that no matter what, they always laughed. Back then he didn't know the Scullys, had yet to meet Mrs. Scully, Melissa, and Bill Jr. When he pictured them, it was always with crinkled laugh lines around their eyes and a smile on their lips. The same one Scully wore when she mentioned her family.
Today, there is no laughter, no joy. And he can't bear it. She deserves more. She deserves a Christmas where she can smile, laugh, and just be herself.
"Hey, Scully?" He decides not to think too much about it. Just do whatever it takes. No matter how ridiculous he's going to look or sound." Let's taco about Christmas." It's a bad pun, but it's the first one that comes to his mind.
"What?" Her voice sounds weak. If he wants to make her laugh, or even smile, he has to up his game.
"I'm pine-ing for you this Christmas?" he tries.
"Are you okay?" she asks, her eyebrows knit in concern. At least he's distracting her from her pain.
"I'm up to snow good."
"You're..." he feels her eyes on him, and since there's not much traffic, he turns to look at her. Her expression is neutral, but he thinks she's thawing. He can't ease her agony; only time can do that. No one can stop him from trying, though. He will make her smile today, come what may.
"I've got high elf-esteem."
"You're insane." And he hears it. Soft, almost shy, but decidedly there: a giggle. A real, honest cackle. He grins, glancing at her. Tears shimmer in her eyes, and he reaches over the console to grab her hand.
"There's no gift like the present." Scully chortles and his heart soars. "I have something for you, by the way. I must admit I stole it from your brother's house, but I think it was a brilliant idea. Are you hungry at all? I'm a bit hungry. Reach into my coat pocket."
"This is not a trick, is it?"
"What? No." Her eyes on him, she sticks her hand into his pocket and fishes out two candy canes.
"Stole it last night and look, these candy canes are in mint condition."
"I'm not hungry."
"You don't need to be hungry for a candy cane, Scully." The plastic crackles as Scully unwraps the candy. Soft peppermint aroma fills the car. She's just holding the candy cane as if unsure what to do next.
"Want me to lick it?" He realizes the implications of what he just said a moment too late. Their eyes meet and then, miraculously, they're roaring with laughter, tears streaming down their faces. Mulder stops the car at the side of the road, needing a moment. Their laughter dies down slowly, a few chuckles falling out of their mouths here and there.
"Want to share?" Mulder asks after a moment.
"Snow be it," Scully replies, the corner of her mouth twitching. She breaks the candy cane in two, handing one half to Mulder. He's almost too mesmerized to notice it. Scully takes her half and bites off a large chunk, chewing slowly.
"I know what you're doing," she says. "And I appreciate it. Thank you." She puts her hand over his on his thigh. Her face is close to his and she smells sweet and fresh, like the candy cane. "I- I needed a moment of, um. I just needed a moment."
"I can come up with another thousand bad puns," he says earnestly.
"You never give up, do you?" Her smile is shaky.
"Only if absolutely forced to." She nods, quickly wiping away a few tears.
"I think I'm ready to go to my brother's house now."
"Are you sure? We can keep going. Hell, say the word and I'll drive us home."
"I know you would." She squeezes his hand. "I don't want to ask but..."
"You can ask for anything, Scully. Anything at all."
"Will you stay with me a while?"
"No one can stop me. Well, your brother could, but I won't let him. And if you need-"
"I know, Mulder. I know. Now tell me another one. I can see it in your eyes. You want to make another joke." Her smile may be colored in sadness, but it's still a smile, and he helped put it there. He starts the car again, Scully's hand falling from his and onto his thigh.
"What did one ornament say to another?" Mulder asks, trying to hide his delight. He pauses for effect until he can't hold it in any longer. "I like hanging with you." He hears a soft chuckle and it sounds glorious to his ears. It will take a while, but in the end, she'll be okay.

Tumblr media
Kylian and Mia remain static in their places when they hear that voice, her voice.
The blonde gets up from her seat wanting to avoid running into Melissa, but her boyfriend determinedly takes her hand, stopping her steps. She looks at him desperately, not understanding why he emanates so much tranquility in the face of everything that is about to happen.
He doesn't make a sound, just motioning for her to stay there. She just nods in confusion, trying to calm down and breathe as she watches Kylian open the door and see her again.
Melissa enters the house with a smile that disappears as soon as she sees Mia's face, which is nothing more than a reflection of the fear that she feels. Her expression turning to one of wonder who quickly disappears, smiling again, pretending not to have seen Mia there, sitting on the sofa in front of her eyes.
—Could I go get my wallet? I think I left it in the dining room –her voice echoes in the room and she only receives a nod in response. She walks over with a smirk on her face, the satisfaction reflected in every step she takes, enjoying the effect she's having on Mia.
Her silhouette disappears between the corridors, the only sounds in the room are Mia and Kylian's deep breaths and Melissa's footsteps walking away.
Neither of them knows what to do, their gazes are lost somewhere in the living room, unprocessed that she is there. Their minds wander without being able to think clearly. Seconds feel like hours. The tension increases as time goes by.
Kylian would rather keep quiet than say something he'll probably regret later, but she's there, a smile on her face, pretending to be nice when he kicked her out of his house less than an hour ago because he couldn't stand her attitude anymore.
Knowing that she is in the same place as them makes them uncomfortable. Kylian can't stand her presence, Mia can't stand remembering how she treated her.
Melissa appears in front of them again, this time with her wallet in her hands. She doesn't say anything, so neither do they. Kylian tries to smile at her slightly, hoping she'll take it as a sign to go, but it doesn't, because he can't even look her in the eye without wanting to yell at her everything he didn't tell her in these 2 days.
The older one glances sideways at Mia, an unreadable expression on her face. She turns away from both of them as she heads for the door.
—Apparently dad kicked someone out of the house –she mutters and leaves.
She laughed as soon as she said it.
Kylian can't ignore it, neither can Mia, much less when her words had so much weight that her eyes are filling with tears and a lump appears in her throat.
She lets out a sob that doesn't go unnoticed by her boyfriend. This is no longer about her father, far from it, it is the feeling of betrayal, the surprise and how much it hurts that the one who does all this is Melissa. She's going too far, far more than either of them could have imagined.
The anger that Kylian fought to hide reappears as soon as he sees how much what she said affected Mia. All the disappointment that he feels for her sister-in-law increases and the indignation for everything that happened in the last two days return.
Everything that happened is replayed in his mind again. The booing of the fans in the final, disappointed looks, newspaper articles ridiculing him, his family and their attempts to comfort him that ended in nothing, how they wanted to prevent him from seeing Mia, the fight in penalties, the lies.
Everything that seemed to be gone when Mia arrived has just come back and even stronger, the feeling that has been tormenting him since december 18 continues and he can't take it anymore.
Without even thinking about it and completely blinded by his impulses, he opens the door ignoring his girlfriend telling him not to, leaves the house and approaches Melissa, who has not yet gotten into her car, ready to face her once and for all.
He calls her name, she turns but her gaze goes to Mia, who is standing behind him, no words come out of her mouth but her disapproving look is enough. Kylian's anger cannot increase any more, he wants to say so many things but it seems that they were captive in his mind, words cannot come out. He doesn't know how to handle the situation, or what to do.
His desire to erase all those feelings and feel at peace again is so great, but he is paralyzed in front of his sister-in-law seeing her mother get out of the car, followed by Jirès.
He can also see his niece and nephew leaning out the car window, smiling to see their aunt Mia, they both get out as best they can and run towards her.
They hug her, who receives them with open arms, but still with tears in her eyes, which do not go unnoticed by Fayza, that when she sees her she feels like her heart is breaking.
Her sweet little Mia, completely saddened and affected by what happened. Embarrassed and feeling out of place. The desire to hug her and tell her that nothing that happened is her fault appears at the same time as the tears in her eyes.
Regret washes over her, and the shame for not having stood up for her increases when they both make eye contact for the first time since what happened.
Kylian standing next to his partner is seen by all his family present there, in Fayza this generates happiness, but Melissa and Jirès are only disgusted and a look of disgust appears on their faces.
Mia sees them. The discomfort returns and it feels the same as in the penalty shootout 2 days ago. But Kylian takes her hand and gives it a light squeeze, along with a half smile, showing his support.
Maybe it doesn't feel the same as 2 days ago, because this time Kylian saw them too.

Gaslighting in the fandom
I have some very hot takes here that may piss off a lot of you, but I can't not say anything anymore.
I have been quiet for a long time about a certain member of the Caryl fandom. This person blocked me a long time ago when I dared to disagree with her and the collective because I felt like we did not know the whole story of what went down when TWD ended and the spinoff changed. But I have kept tabs on her misguided rantings though. I have long had a theory about this particular member of fandom. I believe this person had good intentions to begin with, but now it almost appears as an ego trip to prove that her theories were correct when almost all her theories have blown up in her face. (AI Melissa anyone?). I also question whether someone who spends as much time on Tumblr writing bad theories and answering an incredible amount of asks has true ties to the entertainment industry. I know there are others who feel the same way and if you choose to block me or ignore me I understand. I will rejoice when Caryl goes canon by myself if need be.
"You are absolutely right that, so far, what AMC is showing us instead is that they allow insecure men to punish talented women and gaslight fans who threaten their vision. "
A direct quote from her most recent post. I do agree that AMC marketing has gaslit fans at times and yes there have been instances when women have not gotten a fair shake. But I heartily disagree that they "punish" talented women. If you think that then you really have not been paying attention to the marketing for The Ones Who Live. Danai has been front and center in interviews and seems to have had full creative control over directions of the story for Rick and Michonne. Same with Lauren C when Dead City promo was going on. I truly hope we hear from Melissa soon, but I also know that Melissa has never been a fan of having to do press, most likely because she doesn't like all the attention. I hope that with the upcoming months we see more of her interacting in the public, but I would not be surprised if we did not.
Another quote: "That's not a show I can support. I admire Carol and Melissa because they rise above everyone who puts them down. I love Caryl because they represent the light at the end of the tunnel. Gimple, Nicotero, and Zabel are 100% NOT on our side and never will be, but I need AMC and Norman to show me that they are."
Honestly...I can't disagree about Gimple. I have been totally glad he has been far away from Daryl Dixon being distracted by his being showrunner on TOWL. But Nicotero and Melissa McBride are incredibly close and always have been. The rumors were rampant about tension on the set the last day of filming TWD and then a few months later, we got these pics from BTS.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Along with Norman laying his head in Melissa's lap. All seemed very much at ease.
I know Zabel has not always chosen his words carefully but it also seems that he is very excited to be working with Melissa as well as Norman. As far as being shipbaity with other female characters....well he talks in typical showrunner speak about that. Let us not forget the whole 10C debacle with Leah being introduced in a 20 minute flashback scene. And that was EVERY BIT on Kang, so spare me the righteous indignation that a female showrunner knows best, because obviously Kang did not. Norman and Melissa both hated that storyline...it was not fun as Kang always likes to say it was. I am glad she is gone from the spinoff.
Well, I think I have said enough now to get the rest of the fandom pissed off at me, so I guess I will sign off for now. Believe what you want, but don't fall victim to someone who is trying to reclaim a self-perceived power position by claiming an authority she clearly does not have. Enjoy the show or don't. But I will be around to spread positivity as we get new promo and interviews with hopefully both Melissa AND Norman.

who’s more whipped: melissa or barbara
ok so purely speaking from my own interpretation (and i WELCOME discussion, please!) is that while I do think they are both whipped in their own ways, my immediate instinct is to say obviously melissa is the most whipped, purely because we've seen it in action on screen, in the text, undeniable where she gets scolded and immediately folds, like the little yappy dog she is, multiple times:
Tumblr media Tumblr media
if we're talking fanon over canon my answer is probably still her, because she's absolutely like, VISIBLY, on-screen besotted and delighted by basically everything barbara does...
Tumblr media
...and that if shes still like this after 20-whatever years of friendship it means that it probably follows them into the relationship, right? i think at the slightest wink, this woman folds like a wet paper towel. turns to actual melted butter. fuckin' marshmallow. like, fully ruined. blushing and twirling her hair and squirming and shit. barb smiles and she's like well that's it for me, i'm done, i'm cooked, bye! invade france? sure, let me grab my bag. worships the ground she walks on. thinks she's literally perfect. can look past just about every conceivable flaw because she's so happy just to be near her.
but... and here's me drilling down probably further than you intended but its me so i can't help myself...
in a more canon-adjacent reading of there being more to their deal than what we see, my interpretation is that she's so whipped in-text due to being extremely hyperaware of the fact that if she pursued her attraction to barbara it would put barb into an unteneble situation because of gerald, and thus, like, doing whatever she has to do to not have barbara push her away because she knows the risk. barbara has the most to lose, sure, but that means she also holds the most cards.
melissa has some turbo insecurity/self esteem issues that she masks really hard with humour (👈this part isn't fanon, this is how LAW interprets/plays her, see: this podcast in the part where she's discussing Readathon). because of this I can't imagine her any other way than like constantly trying not to overstep that line, and doing whatever she has to do to stay in barbara's good graces and not lose her in her life because she's like, the One Good Thing she has. whipped as a defence mechanism. it's easy to replace someone when you're already married to the replacement, you know? so she has to make herself seem irreplaceable to barbara.
i think the fact that the only other person she felt she could talk to about starting the relationship with gary was fuckin' joe I think speaks to the fact she most likely has very, very few people in her circle - we hear about her family members but their dynamic seems pretty dysfunctional and arms-length, so the fact barbara has kept her in her life so long to her is like, world-altering shit. I think even in an AU where they got together... the fear of her leaving would always be in the back of her mind because of Joe. So she would basically move heaven and earth for her and whatever she says goes because she feels so lucky to have her, at least for right now, as long as she'll let her. She'll do whatever it takes. "I ain't killin' for any of you. Except Barbara."
Do I also think Barbara is whipped though? Yes. I think that's most evident in the way she's starting to take on more of Melissa's unsavoury characteristics to both make sure they can stay working together but also stay in her good graces (see: Delisha Sloss, see: being the one to suggest scamming the parents into coming to AVA Fest) even though it feels deeply unnatural.
Tumblr media
You also see it in how, when her insecurities bubble up, she immediately is comforted by Melissa's words and takes them to heart instead of dismissing them (see: like fine wine, see: aging with dignity) and the tension she's held ALL DAY visibly unwinds near instantly.
Tumblr media
If I look at her from a fanon context, this woman would literally be risking SO MUCH because of her attraction/love for this woman, her husband, her children, her church, literally upending her entire life, everything she's ever known, to risk being with Melissa. Just keeping her around is a huge risk because of the temptation, but she DOES keep her around. It's so fun to imagine the beginning stages of their friendship when they were much younger because of all this too, because they're so different, they have so many vastly different morals, (melissa has a rap sheet ffs!!) that it's like, even getting to KNOW her was a risk to barbara's moral character and image... but she did it anyway, over and over again, for twenty-whatever years, because she just finds Melissa that fucking delightful and charming and wonderful that she can't help herself. She's trained herself to look the other way as much as she can because the other parts of her are so worth it to her. She makes her laugh every day and she smiles when she sees her come in the room and she can't go one fucking lunch period without her sharing her table without having a Menty B. That's some fucking whippage.

Happy Tuesday evening :) This is such a good one. Jealousy thy name is Lucy Chen is what this ep should be called. The Green eyed monster coming out real hard for her in this one. But then Lucy has no feelings for him right….
3x11 New Blood
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Our ep starts out with our trio scoping the new rookies. Lucy talks to Katie first. Asking who her T.O. Is going to be? We find out Tim is her new teacher. Lucy is tying not to gush too much about him. Saying she will learn so much but trails off. Katie catches on that Lucy is burying the lead a little. Lucy fesses up Tim can be a little intense. HA You got him at his most intense dear Lucy. He was a radioactive trap ready to gobble her up at first. Then after that was mostly based on his intense need to make sure she succeeded.
Katie doesn't seem intimidated by this info but very appreciative of it. Lucy tells Barnes to reach out to her if she ever goes into a self doubt spiral. So sweet. Also she has a feeling that this new rookie will have one. It's Tim no way she wouldn't right? Gotta love her trying to help the new girl out though. Pre-warn her of what's to come. We all know how ‘Intense’ Lucy’s first shift was with Tim. So it’s very thoughtful of her to reach out and offer help if she needs it.
Tumblr media
The jealously begins at the food trucks. Tamara is there with Jackson and Lucy. They’re talking about getting her set up in her new housing. Tim’s new rookie catches Tamara’s eye. She asks who Officer Zaddy is with? LMAO I remember having to look up what that meant the first time haha but it’s accurate to Tim. In case you need a refresher it means ‘Sexually attractive older man, who is charming and self confident’. That’s our Tim haha Yum.
Tamara asks how it feels to be replaced? Lucy shrugs it off saying she's glad Tim is torturing someone else. Ok honey we believe you..... That mindset lasts all of two seconds before Jackson points out he’s paying for her coffee. Lucy’s jealously begins here and doesn’t stop for the majority of this episode. She is intently watching and sees he’s letting her drive too. She is absolutely incensed by this whole thing. He’s also smiling while he’s paying for her coffee. Lucy is none too pleased about this. Her face says it all as they walk way. Jealously and resentment party of one.
Tumblr media
Lucy can't actually fathom him being nice on day one like this. So she then she comes up with a plan to explain it all. Because it’ll help with her jealously if she does. Saying how Tim is only doing it to lull her into false sense of security. She’ll be wearing that coffee before too long. Lucy is all smiles till Jackson calls her out on it. Oof. Telling her how messed up it is she is enjoying this. Her bubble bursting rapidly even Tamara can’t look at her LOL Oh my girl you are as transparent as glass. The jealously is seeping out of her. Melissa kills this scene with her facial expressions. The whole episode really.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Tim and Katie catch a call about a robbery. I do love watching Tim with her because they’re so like minded. Except Tim knows how to be a cop vs a soldier. Fascinating to watch tbh. Lucy and Jackson show up as their backup when they start to take fire. Katie has injured one of them and is rendering first aid. Something that seems foreign to her. In the military you aren't doing that for your enemies.
Tim see's Katie is struggling with this concept. So he put his hand on her shoulder as a sign of support. Lucy immediately notices this and voices her jealously once again. Jackson doesn’t even notice what they’re doing. He asks her 'What?' Thinking it’s something egregious. Nope just Tim putting his hand on Katie’s shoulder….The green eyed monster is fuming at this moment. Telling Jackson she didn’t even get a fist bump when she saved his life day one...
Tumblr media
Lucy is so aggravated and jealous. I saw a post once saying 'She's a ten but terrible at hiding her feelings.' Ha It's true Lucy wears them on her sleeve normally. This is another level though. Not even trying a little bit to hide it. He’s bought her coffee, been nice to her, let her drive and now she’s getting an empathetic touch all on day one. Driving Lucy nuts. She had to fight and claw for every inch with Tim. So this whole situation is seeming very unfair to her.
That Barnes is getting it handed to her on a silver platter in Lucy’s eyes. The thing is Lucy changed Tim so much for the better in many ways. Another part of her is jealous because Katie is getting an emotionally healthier version of Tim. Where she got a dumpster fire ready to implode at a moments notice. Took her time to breakthrough. The kicker is Tim is in the place he is now because of Lucy. But she can't see that atm. Jealously doesn’t tend to allow one to see logic LOL She is legit pouting above as they load their suspect up.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
I LOVE LOVE LOVE this next part with Tim and Katie. Anytime we get to delve into Tim past i’m a happy girl. Not only that but his military past. Trying to teach her how to live in the world she's currently in now. Not the one she was in before the LAPD. He’s trying to help reset her brain. I love him taking her to this peaceful park to accomplish this. The little bit of funny sass when he says 'No it's adorable.' HA Who are you and what have you done with Tim Bradford?
He can tell Katie is still unsettled from their encounter earlier. So he's trying to redirect her focus. i.e. the lady bug. You know Tim had to do something similar when he returned. I’m sure he struggled coming out of that mindset into a less controlled one. Where you’re not told what to do and when. Everything happens in a split second based off your decisions. The way he easily connects to what they’re doing. His insightful words of wisdom for her. He was Katie when he returned home. Thinking he’s still in country, everyone is either hostile or friendly. The way he speaks is from deep experience.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Tim tells her to take a deep breath, feel the sun on her face, close her eyes. He would cover her when she closed them. This scene gets me all emotional. I know what it's like to have PTSD. How it can control your entire life. To be in a consistent state of fight or flight. Because you've forgotten what it's like to have a safe space. What it's like to have your guard down. Tim is creating that safe space for her right now. By telling Katie he has her covered. To let herself just be in the moment. This scene showcases a couple things. One it show's Tim's good heart. How badly he wants to help her. I love this man so very much.
Two just shows how damn good he is at his job. Taking his past pain and experience and using it to help transition Katie. To help her transition better than I'm sure he did. Because he knows how sideways this can go if she doesn't get ahold of this. That if she continues down this path it’s not going to go well. Telling her to live in the moment. It’s hard but it’s the only way he got past the war. To move forward again. This soft side of Tim doing things to me. Already love this man but this just increases it ten fold. The soft way he speaks to her the entire scene. Phew lord. Getting weak in the knees.
Tumblr media
Tamara calls Lucy asking if she can come get her. That her cousin is drunk and won’t let her get her stuff. Lucy grabs her off duty weapon and is on her way. I love how confidently she walks up and yells at Tamara's cousin to get her stuff. Get ‘em Lucy! Her stance is amazing. He listens like a smart man. Doesn't test Lucy. Tim would be so proud of her. Love me some confident BAMF Lucy. He gets her stuff tells her not to come back. What a jackass. Lucy asks what happened? Tamara tells Lucy her new place has black mold. It’ll be couple months before she can get in there.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
We find out she asked her cousin if she could extend her stay. He lost it on her. Apparently his GF can't stand her staying there. Hence Tamara calling her for help. Says she will figure something out… Lucy refuses to let her drown. Tells her she can stay with her till the new place is ready. That she’s family ❤️ They really are found sisters and I love it sfm. They say family isn’t always blood. It isn't the same last name or bloodline. It's the people that constantly show up for you. Lucy has done this with Tamara and she's finally accepting it. Truly believing and trusting Lucy's word now. Her relief above is so sweet. I love their relationship so much.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
We've now reached Lucy's boiling point of the episode. She legit implodes with jealously when she see Tim doing Katie's paperwork. She can’t take it any longer. Has to say something. Starts by making a snide comment about him doing paperwork day 2.... The way he looks up at her in the second gif LOL Tim is smart enough to know he’s in a fight with Lucy he’s just not sure why…He asks her if she has something to say? Knowing damn well she has a lot to say. Lucy is trembling with anger and jealously. Asking why he’s being so nice to her? The hurt in her tone is evident af. Her body language matching that tone.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Tim has opened the flood gates by asking her if she has something to say. Lucy doesn't hesitate and goes OFF on him. Her body language really betrays her so much in this scene. She is so damn revved up. Listing all the ways he tormented her in the early days. Mentioning when he stole her duty belt when she had to pee. The way he reminisces about that moment above has me rolling so much. Like ah yes I was so very mean to you LMAO Thinking damn that was a good one. Lucy telling him he called her boot so much she has PTSD from the word itself.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Now when Lucy says this it prompts Tim to say Katie has other issues. Lucy is so angrily blind in her jealously she goes off more. Saying like what? Then goes on a very insecure and specific rant about her. Oh Lucy when you start listing physical attributes like that it’s screaming you’re so VERY jealous. Her emotions betraying her wholly in this scene. Listing all the things Lucy feels like Tim doesn’t see in her. Which is a damn lie but she isn’t seeing straight right now. All she can see is her jealously and unfairness of his kindness.
Her insecurities are coming out in spades right now. Not only does this woman get soft Tim she’s also beautiful and smart. Lucy feels threatened on so many levels. This scene is screaming that. Tim follows up her rant with 'She won’t wear any perfume.' Lucy is so caught up in her emotions she forgot he’s answering her question from before. She’s confused and asks what that has to do with anything? Getting more irritated. Tim realizes she needs his full attention for this. Puts his pen in his pocket and turns toward her.
Stops what he’s doing and tells her how he teaches his trainee's. Saying he teaches his recruits according to what they need. You can see Lucy is riled up still but listening to him. He starts with a continuation to his previous statement. Saying she won’t wear perfume because she’s still worried it’ll give away her position. Telling Lucy a part of her is still in Afghanistan waging a war that is over for her. He continues on to say if she’s ever going to be a cop that instinct has to go.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Before Lucy can say a word he compliments her. Calling her a kind and insightful person. How she sees the good in people. Now I love this because he is doing build, break, build here. Building her up before breaking her back down by letting her know WHY he trained her the way he did. Vs what he's doing with Katie. Man has a reason for pretty much everything he does with this job especially teaching.
Trying to show Lucy that she and Katie view the world very differently. So his approach with her has to be the polar opposite. Lucy looks mortified by the time he’s done. Like she’s embarrassed she showed her hand emotionally and was wrong. Also it being over something she would've supported had she known the facts. Lucy immediately asks Tim if she’s going to be ok? That empathy of her's kicking right into gear now that Tim has calmed her down.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Tim says in time she will be ok. Which had she given him the chance to do this she would've been. He then ends the conversation with the best compliment she could’ve received from him. Tim basically saying she’s an incredible cop. That one day Barnes might even be as good as she is now. That shuts Lucy up effectively haha He does some heart eyes and does a mic drop of a walk away. Knowing there isn't more to say. That he needed to quell her insecurities and he did just that. It's the way he softens in that second gif as he compliments her. Gah I love them so much. He's so proud of his girl and lets her know it.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Lucy's reaction is the best part. She’s so full of giddiness it’s adorable. Her person just complimented her in the best way possible. Validating she’s amazing at her job. The little smirk and twirl is so cute I can not. It’s like when the guy you like says he likes you back. Lucy can’t contain her glee. He just made her whole damn year. His opinion of her is everything so she is on cloud 9 right now.
Love that Tim doesn’t make her feel bad for being jealous or questioning why he’s being nice to Katie. Just breaks it down and does what he does best with her. Says the right thing in the perfect way so she doesn’t spiral any further. The fact that he did that and complimented her not once but twice. Sigh How far we have come everyone how far we have come. ❤️
Side notes- Non Chenford
It is a bummer Katie doesn’t stick around. I get why she doesn’t. Transferring from one stressful environment to another is a lot when you still have ptsd issues. Telling Tim when he let her have her guard down, feel the sun on her face was the first time she felt at peace in a long time. He so desperately wants to help her transition. Because he’s been there done that. She declines and resigns.
Then Tim does something that makes me love him even more if thats even possible. That even though he’s disappointed she’s leaving he lets her know he’s going to check in on her. *heart clutch* Tells her she has 3 years before her POST certification expires. That she will always have a home here if she needs it. Oh Timothy be still my heart sir.
I love Tim having to be the neutral third party for Wopez and Wes’s mom for the wedding plans. It’s fantastic. He is a negotiator for them it’s so funny.
Harper/James flirty flirts for self defense class. Silas being his wing man to help him secure a date with Nyla. Too damn cute.

Is the reason why you want a female showrunner so bad because most romance writers are women? I want canon Caryl but I don’t want TWD to be Bridgerton or Gilmore Girls with zombies.
Just because I want a romantic journey for Caryl doesn't mean I want someone to turn their show into Bridgerton or Gilmore Girls and it also doesn't mean a female showrunner would. If we should worry about anyone taking romance in the wrong direction, it’s Zabel and co. who are now comparing Daryl to a “lonely knight” from a Lamartine poem🤨 The reason I need an experienced female showrunner is because she's far more likely to connect with a deeply internal female character like Carol and an unconventional, also deeply internal, male character like Daryl. She can highlight their nuances and appeal to a largely female audience + many male viewers who don't fit the hypermasculine stereotype. She can help that audience grow and get the show a lot of mainstream attention.
I’m not saying men can’t write for these characters, but the toxic white men TWDU only seems to hire now are far too self-indulgent. They don't write for the characters or for their fans. Look at how Daryl often comes across in S1– as a white American savior, eligible bachelor, emotionally constipated except when he’s angry, and someone who can make eyes at a woman he barely knows despite having someone at home. That's not the Daryl so many people fell in love with during the Sophia arc in the flagship show. That's not the loyal family man who wears his heart on his sleeve and reserves any "glances' for the woman he’s always loved. They write their male protagonist from a limited perspective and same goes for the women. They turn them into tropes like the femme fatale (Maggie), the “good girl vs the whore” (Isabelle), the “manipulator” (also Isabelle), and the “strong woman” aka a woman who acts like an alpha male. Carol was a badass in 106, but there was no emotion behind her actions. Why couldn’t we get a closeup of her face while she was mounting the bike? Why couldn’t we see how worried she was about losing Daryl, the man who means everything to her? Was it cut? Was it even shot? Why didn’t the male EPs think that might be important?
Look at the ways they gatekeep. If “The Book of Carol” is supposed to shine a spotlight on our deeply internal female protagonist, then why are Zabel and Richman writing half the scripts themselves and why are their no female directors? Representation offscreen is just as important as representation onscreen.
Tumblr media
Melissa will have had a lot to say about Carol's arc, which I think will make a big difference in S2 thankfully, but she still needs another woman in power to help her tell Carol's and Caryl's story the way she and her fans want it to be told and to promote Carol fairly. Notice how she keeps getting left out of promos or pitted against other characters or reduced to a subtitle? That does not mean Melissa has no agency or that she's weak. It means the misogyny at AMC, and TWDU in particular, runs too deep for her to be immune. She needs allies.
I need an experienced female showrunner for S3, otherwise I'm not interested. Zabel, Nicotero, and Gimple are a ticking timebomb. S1 was pretty damaging. I'm hoping S2 won't be, but at some point there's going to be no coming back from one of their careless decisions and I can't watch that happen to the two iconic characters who have functioned as fictional role models in both my personal and professional life. I need to know that AMC values Melissa, Carol, and Caryl as much as I do as a fan. Letting the men run amuck, letting them shit on Melissa/Carol/Caryl and their fans constantly, is not very convincing.

Random question, Prince! How do you thinks would've played out if Melissa was the one Peter bit that fateful night? Perhaps she went looking for her foolish son and his even more foolish friend because she knows they went looking for that corpse. How does she navigate her new reality? Does Derek approach her similarly to how he approached Scott in canon? Does Peter make himself known sooner? What about Deaton?
I just LOVE hearing your thoughts on these types of things 🥰
Tumblr media
Personally, I don't see your scenario happening because, as many fans do, it takes it as a given that Peter's selection of Scott was an act of instinct and not a calculated decision. I am of the opinion that it's 99% likely that Peter was fully aware of what he was doing when he Bit Scott. My evidence is as follows:
The Beacon Hills Police Department had been in the woods for as long as it had taken Stiles to eavesdrop on his father's conversation, to try to reach Scott on the phone, to get to Scott's, to convince Scott to come with him, and then to drive out to the Preserve. I think it highly that Peter would never have come across at least one police deputy alone in the woods over that amount of time, especially with an alpha werewolf's heightened senses.
It follows that if you accept my headcanon that Peter eavesdropped on Scott's and Stiles's conversation while going through the woods, Scott presented as the perfect target. Scott is revealed in the conversation as bored, plagued by asthma, and desiring to be a sports star; all of these things becoming a werewolf will change. Judging by his relationship with Stiles, Scott also seems to be a follower. He's young, so he'll survive the Bite. Peter chose Scott on purpose.
The amount of convincing and planning he had to do to get Nurse Jennifer not only to help him but also to help him effectively meant that he had to be fully aware for some time. This is why Derek switched sides when Scott told him that Nurse Jennifer had gotten the flyer from Deaton's office; Derek realized then that Peter's claim of killing Laura accidentally had to be false.
Finally, in Master Plan (2x12), Peter reveals that a week after he got out of his coma, he located the Hale family records and transferred them to a laptop, hiding it in their house so thoroughly that not only Derek missed it but so did the crime scene investigators looking into Kate's death. It's quite a feat for someone who is supposedly not in possession of his faculties.
If you accept this argument as true, Peter would never have selected Melissa the way he selected Scott. She's older and more mature; she's not going to hide things to avoid getting in trouble with her parents. She's out in the woods looking for her son, which means Peter would have to deal with him as well. Melissa, as a mature adult, would probably be a lot more willing to immediately go to the police and seek proper medical attention for an animal bite. He wanted a soldier he could manipulate, not a fully grown adult who would immediately cause him trouble if not reveal him to the Argents.
There is, however, a scenario where he might try to Bite her, and that would be if Nurse Jennifer didn't exist. Let's say he tries to seduce Melissa when she's his nurse instead of Jennifer. He would perhaps play off her insecurities about being desirable, her empathy and compassion for his state, and what Peter could do for her son Scott. However, when he tried to persuade her to help him lure Laura into an ambush, she would reject him, and he might desperately Bite her in an attempt to bind her to him. He wouldn't just kill her; he needs Laura's alpha spark to recover fully and he can't afford to draw attention yet.
It would not work out well for him. If she didn't immediately go to her son's best friend's father, she would contact Laura directly and tell her that Peter was awake but he might be mentally imbalanced. Laura and Derek would come back, but this time they wouldn't be taken by surprise. Laura would teach Melissa how to control herself, and the three of them would work on Peter to get him to see reason or to neutralize him if he wouldn't.
It is possible that Peter might somehow get the drop on Laura even then, but Derek wouldn't be misled and Melissa would certainly do something, because, after all "If [she] can do something to help, then [she would] do it. [She would] have to." The struggle would begin.
Scott dating Allison would still be a complication, because Allison didn't date Scott because of his cool werewolf abilities, but of his helpful and friendly attitude at the vet clinic. Now, Melissa would have to balance learning how to control her werewolf instincts, fighting Peter's plans, and hiding her secret from her son and her son's girlfriend.
Heck, that sounds like a damn good show.
EDIT: Someone pointed out that my idea needs work -- Peter couldn't turn Melissa until after he became Alpha. Most of what I wrote is still relevant. It would still be interesting!

christmas carol/emily + melissa's phone calls + scully's dreams
so. something i love about this episode is the way scully hears melissa. i don't think we have a reason to believe it is anyone else. scully saw her father's ghost before she even got the call. when she was in a coma, he came to her. she could feel & hear nurse owens taking care of her, helping her hold on. she had the strength of mulder's beliefs to come back.
scully doesn't say it at first, but she recognized melissa's voice immediately. the thought doesn't fit with her worldview but the voice won't tell her who they are.
Tumblr media
the first call, she's alone in bill's house. the others having just gone upstairs. later that night, she has the first dream & the second call (again, when she is alone):
Tumblr media
personally i think these are memories. they may not be 100% what happened. this 100% has to do with melissa's call & the little girl scully saw. instantly, she recognizes how much she looks like melissa as a child. scully couldn't take her eyes off of her, until kresge closed the door cutting off her view.
emily appears in the basement after little dana finds her rabbit dead. i think the one who really found her was melissa. scully is putting the pieces together. i think this is a reason she starts to research emily's background, and when she finds emily was adopted, her logic assumes melissa must be her biological mother.
i believe scully is psychic. but i don't necessarily think of it the way people typically think of psychic abilities. both scully & mulder have a gift for recognizing patterns, storing away information in their brain that they're able to pull out when they recognize something. it isn't always conscious, because sometimes that's just how our brains work. there's something within us that recognizes it and until we have more pieces, we can't consciously put it together. like mulder's dream in paper hearts. when scully quotes mulder back to himself "dreams are answers to questions we haven't yet figured out how to ask" and this episode is a culmination of that. when mulder was thought dead at the end of season two, melissa wanted her to go into her memories & figure out what happened to her during her abduction. she runs away & can't face it. scully has a dream about mulder and she believes he's alive, that he was somehow reaching out to her. in paper hearts, mulder never let go of that case. he didn't get the definitive proof that they found all the girls and every one of them deserved justice and their families deserved answers & closure.
now, scully's hearing melissa's voice and she's bringing her to this little girl. she almost calls mulder, because she believes it's melissa. she believes she's meant to find this little girl. she's terrified of what this means, and part of her definitely knows it has to do with her abduction, like her cancer did. but she isn't there yet. and so, she tries to adopt emily. because that's melissa's daughter, and she needs a family & someone to love her and scully already does. she thinks melissa wants her to. and then she finds out emily is actually her biological daughter. that's when she finally does call mulder, because now what's coming, she isn't prepared for in any way. she doesn't know, but part of her does.
Tumblr media
her next dream is the only true abstract dream she has (until the beginning of emily), the others are very straightforward. a memory and a connection to emily. this one causes scully to suspect mr. sim of killing his wife. this one isn't a memory, but it's scully putting together pieces unconsciously, that will lead to conscious answers. it wasn't mr. sim, but there's a connection she hasn't yet found. her true connection to emily, the connection to the government conspiracy they're constantly tangled in.
i also think it's actually a way of mr. sim showing scully the truth. bringing little dana to see emily's adoptive mother, and passing the responsibility to her to be emily's mother & protector, because they won't be able to.
Tumblr media
in the next dream, melissa & scully are checking out their gifts under the christmas tree. maggie comes out and lets them both open one, it's their cross necklaces. (again a memory, but maybe not completely accurate because maggie scully tells mulder she gives scully the cross necklace for her birthday)
then we see scully putting emily on a car. emily is transfixed by her cross necklace. emily wasn't in this dream, but it seems like a clear sign to me & it's one reason scully puts the cross around emily's neck. it's a symbol to scully of her family, and belief. we see emily holding the necklace, looking wide-eyed back at scully as the car drives away.
Tumblr media
this dream of scully's, the one i think is the full reality of the memory, she talks to melissa about her choices and how ahab feels about it and what feels right to her and how it's not fate, it's choices. i love this conversation because i actually think they have the same viewpoint, but they talk about it differently. this is something melissa understands that scully can't quite see (mostly because she fights most belief with skepticism as a form of protection). (to me, this also lends itself perfectly to what happened in the field where i died. even if scully knew for certain, she wouldn't change anything. she would make the same choices. because they were always her choices.)
i also think this lines up beautifully with what mulder says at the end of emily.
Tumblr media
he feared what emily was created for, but she's just a little girl and he loves every child. especially a little scully girl. they didn't save emily's life in the way they hoped, but they saved her. she died with scully next to her, scully's cross around her neck, surrounded by love.
i also love "she found me" so much. melissa lead scully to emily, because emily was reaching out to her. emily instantly loved scully, the way scully instantly loved her.
at the end, all she's left with is her cross, like her dream at beginning + scully's voiceover tells us.
Tumblr media
but scully isn't as alone as she feels. mulder is always there. he was there with her every step of the way once she called him, what she allowed him to be there for. and he always will be. he fought hard for both scully & emily, he held nothing back. until scully said she wouldn't put emily through what a "cure" entails. they've already used a "miracle cure" on scully and they haven't yet learned all the consequences of that. but with the way everything has gone, something in both of them suspects there's more to come of scully's abduction. they're constantly waiting for the next landslide to sweep them off their feet.
this is the only dream in emily, because she has the pieces and she has mulder to help her put it together. there's also only one phone call she received, and melissa doesn't speak this time. the only time she isn't alone, the only time mulder is there. the phone calls were specifically for scully, and mulder is going to help finish what scully started so she can focus on caring for emily & being there for her.

_________________________________
The concert was amazing and made me feel a little bit better. Our fans knew all the words, screaming our names the entire show. But now the magic came to an end and the real life was hitting me once again. I put the mic back on it’s stand and waved to the most wonderful fanbase one could ask for.
While we got off the stage, Motionless In White were getting ready for their set. I wished them good luck and took the spot where Ricky and Chris were standing before.
I have always been a fan of their music, everything they have done so far was amazing. Chris always gives me a copy when a new album comes out, knowing I will be at their next concert singing my lungs out for them.
My eyes were now on Ricky. I don’t understand why he said he is not that great. He is amazing. Of course he needs his time to get used of singing in front of so many people, but for now, he is doing a great job. I did not realize I have not moved my gaze for some time and he caught me looking at him. He smiled at me and I started smiling as well without realizing.
Out of nowhere, I felt someone touching my shoulder with their hand. I turned my hand only a bit, seeing his tattoos was enough to know who he was.
“I can’t wait any longer. We need to talk now.”
The smile disappeared from my lips. I was looking around for Xander, Seth or Andrew, but they were not here anymore. Motionless just started their set, so Ricky and Chris could not help me either.
“Sure, Ben. Let’s talk.”
He took my hand and lead our way to somewhere out of the venue. No one could see or hear us here. I only hope it will not take long and I can continue my life in peace.
“What is going on with you? You never miss our sets. And last night I thought you were going to stay with me, as you usually do.”
“Why do you act like it’s my fault? Just tell me the truth, Ben. I know you’re hiding something from me.”
“I’m not. That best friend of yours put those stupid ideas in your head.”
“This is between us, leave Chris alone.”
“Or else what? And what about the other guy? When I saw him touching you I wanted to beat the shit out of him.”
He has been jealous before, but not like that. I need to get Ricky out of this discussion, or else he will get another ideas of what to do to him. That’s when I decided to not make this conversation any longer.
“I know you’ve been cheating on me this past few months, Ben. Don’t try to deny it and let’s just end this joke of relationship.”
His eyes widened at my words. That’s when he got closure to me and I started to panic. He was never violent, but who knew what he could do now.
“Alright, I won’t deny it. It’s true, but I can explain myself.”
“I don’t want to hear anything…”
“No, let me say it. I missed you so much, you are never with me when I need you.”
“And sleeping with a random girl helped?”
“It was the biggest mistake of my life. Especially when I wanted to do this.”
Ben pulled the black velvet box from his pocket and got on one knee. He was confused that I did not have any reaction.
“I hope you know I would not marry you after what you did.”
“Just listen to me, Lexus. Yes, I cheated on you and I am extremely sorry. And there is actually more to the story and after I will confess everything I will ask you the big question.”
“So you did more than that?”
“The girl announced me 2 days ago that she is pregnant. I told her that I will raise the child only with you, my love. Now that I said everything, will you marry me and start this family together?”
I was speechless. No words came out of my mouth and my mind was blank. How can you respond to something like this?
“You’re insane. We are done, Ben. Forever.”
“Don’t leave me!”
I started running back to the venue. Tears were running down my face, almost not seeing anything in front of my eyes. After some time I looked behind me and he was not there. I tried to catch my breath and to look around me, trying to recognize my surroundings. If I was right, my bus should be somewhere near close.
While I was walking, I spotted Ricky at a table. He had his head down and a cigarette in his right hand. And what broke my heart in an instant was that he seemed like he has been crying. I made my way to him, taking the free spot on his left.
“Ricky? What happened?”
His eyes met mine and I saw how right I was. The make-up was all over his face and his eyes were red.
“Nothing, don’t worry about me. You have lots of things on your mind already.”
“Ben and I broke up.”
“For good?”
“Yeah. I can’t forgive him for what he did. He even got the girl pregnant.”
“Wow… Then you took the right decision.”
He threw his cigarette and took his pack from his jeans for another one. I have never seen him like this before.
“Please tell me what is going on with you.”
“Let’s just say we are in the same boat right now.”
“You broke up with your girlfriend?”
“The other way around. She said she found someone better.”
“I’m so sorry, Ricky.”
Without realizing, I put my head on his shoulder. He did not say anything about it, resting his head on mine. He sighed and took another smoke. We stayed like this for a longer time than I expected. It felt right, both of us having our hearts broken, understanding each other better than anyone could in this moment.

Jason Lee Scott oc and au children and grandchildren
Jason's...fascinating. to put it mildly. I'd almost say his love interests have the same vibe as Billy Cranston's but with the added interest of it not being them trying to hide the actor's homosexuality. I don't know if it's just hard for people to think of a good and interesting way for him to play off someone or what but wow. There's something to be said about this.
Canon Children:
Currently none that we know of-which is actually WEIRD because he has a canon girlfriend/most likely wife. Emily. You'd think they'd give him a kid or two with her. Apparently not! so; none that we know of.
My OC Children of Jason Lee Scott:
Lauren Shiba;
The fun of reality hopping, is that time really doesn't matter much. They found each other during the Battle for the Grid, and bonded. When Jason got his memories back, he bided his time, but was intending to find her again, and give her back her memories, as well.
Eventually, he had his chance and took it. When he was able to get to his Lauren in her reality, she was living off the compound with Spike Skullovtich as her roommate. He was able to give her back her memories, and tried not to think too hard about the fact Spike is Skull's son.
They have a kid, who's currently living on the streets in a completely different reality. Eben Scott is sixteen and as far as he knows, his parents are dead. He's been very suspicious of power rangers his entire life, though would never go against them. He stays out of this reality's earth's team, but isn't above helping where possible. On the downlow, of course. By all accounts, Eben shouldn't exist. There was never a reality where this was supposed to happen, and Eben knows that better than anyone. He doesn't blame the rangers, exactly, but he does blame the grid itself for his parents deaths. The grid, and the Morphin Masters, who seem to be directly involved in it. Eben reasons that as long as he stays hidden, they can't erase him from existence.
Recently though, the gold ranger of the team he's become the self appointed baby sitter of has gotten grievously hurt, and Eben's this close to breaking into the headquarters and seeing if he's a good fit. He's willing to chance it for a group he's grown attached to, even if from a distance. Plucky, wary, creative, and far too comfortable with breaking laws, the biggest question if he does is will the team even accept him as a replacement.
Melissa (last name unknown);
Melissa was a deaf girl and friend of Kimberly who Jason became vey immediately taken with, learning sign language so he could better communicate with her. She was able to get away from one of Rita's monsters because she couldn't hear the music that entranced the other girls from the dance class Kimberly was running. When Melissa was able to get the rangers for help...she saw them transform. She never mentioned it to anyone, figuring Jason and the rest had a good reason to stay quiet about it. However when Jason went to become a Solar Ranger, Melissa let him know she knew. And made him promise he'd come back safely. There might not be much for him in Angel Grove, but she was there, and that had to count for something. When he came back, they got together
Their son, Mackenzie, "Kensy" Scott, is Deaf. Like his mom, he's fluent in sign language. Kensy is twenty nine years old. He's a red ranger, for the solar rangers team. Jason is constantly worried on behalf of his son, but Kensy has adapted. This works for him. Most hypnosis and mind control by sound monster's powers don't work on him. He 'hears' with his other senses like touch, such as feet and hands, as well as his suit adapting to his needs and strengths. Kensy's doing fine, and he's going to show everyone. He gets his parents are concerned, but it's okay. He's okay. He has everything down to an exact science. He can whistle. apparently loudly. He's practiced sounds enough to have a whistle system with his team. ASL is also great for stealth missions. He's dating his yellow, Starla. He's promised his parents he's not going to get in too deep or become unhealthy with this, and to remember to come home eventually.
Kensy keeps a book of recipes from wherever planet he spends at least a few days on. His current thought process is sell this and a biography about his life in space with his friends.
Rocky DeSantos;
Rocky said he thought Jason was cool and wished he could have gotten to know him better so was happy to be on the Zeo team with him. Here, this was meant fully romantically. It took Jason three months to Get It, and when Rocky was no longer blue and the rest of them became turbo rangers. When he was out of the hospital and Jason was mentally recovered from his ordeal at the hands of Divatox, they talked about everything. Slowly and awkwardly. How much Rocky admired Jason, how much he wished they could have been closer friends before Jason left, and Jason congratulating Rocky on being a good red ranger, and a great blue. His Blue.
They’re still active Zeo Rangers, though Jason slid back into red when Tommy got strong armed into retiring by his wife. Eventually, he’s going to give the legacy his youngest daughter, who in turn gives it to Tommy’s grandson, but for now… he and Rocky have it handled.
They have three kids and run a wrestling gym dojo combination. Victoria “V” DeSantos, aged 17, and Bess, aged 13. Kim offered to be the surrogate, as Aisha and Kat and Trini were busy with their own lives and had declined, and Kim was happy to help both times. Plus, Jason wanted the girls to not be bullied over being half siblings. Not that it matters. Nobody bullies the DeSantos sisters.
V isn’t a ranger, but that doesn’t mean she hasn’t kicked seven kinds of ass of anything that makes the mistake that just because she looks effeminate must mean she’s not one of the toughest kids and town and took her kickboxing team at school to nationals twice in a row (three times if she can manage; she’s training hard for it). Not the sharpest tool in the box, but she gets there in the end. She’s got a heart of gold and a competitive streak a mile wide. She’s enthusiastic, cheeky, bur don’t get on her bad side. She might have a slow temper, this doesn’t make her a pushover. Can be intimidating with a smile. Don’t screw with her family. Especially on the holidays, Halloween, Christmas and valentines especially. That is family time and she will cause demons hospitalization. Thanksgiving’s fine though. But they have to bring a side dish and stay for dinner. This has made things interesting. She can be self centered and details focused, but she tries to think about others. While her dads are in charge, V is the benevolent queen bee of the house and keeps everything in line. Terrible with time and directions though, but that’s what her sister’s for. Not associated with a color.
Bess is less like Rocky, but she’s got all of Kim’s best qualities. Kind, compassionate, empathetic. She though, like Jason, tends to internalize and stew. Her goal is to beat all of Jason’s records he set in his teens. She doesn’t want to be the best, she just wants to prove to him she’s capable. And maybe a little bit want to be able to brag she’s better than her old man, but just a little. A bit jealous of her older sister. V has a long shadow it’s sometimes difficult to step out from under. Often explodes when she can’t get something perfectly the first time, but once she calms down she’s usually trying again. Definitely Jason’s favorite even if he doesn’t say so. She’s very good at directions and maps, and sense of time. She’s dependable and capable. She’s going to be the best one day, she’s gonna make sure of it. Will be Red when Jason’s finally forced to retire.
Tommy Oliver;
It started with a challenge, because for these two, it always starts with a challenge. Trying to out do the other in asking each other out, the date, and then the proposals. Because the one who can't top the last proposal has to say yes. because you can't one up a proposal if you're already married. So they've been engaged with no wedding date in sight for decades, going back and forth with proposals. Most everyone is amused, but their two kids are mostly Done with their dads. Travis Scott, aged 26, and Celeste Scott, aged 22, love their dads but cannot with either of them. Travis is a famous race car driver and a gold ranger, Celeste is going into mechanics with a focus on teaching, her goal being a shop teacher for highschool students and a red ranger, and they love their dads but everything is an eternal competition between Jason and Tommy, and it sometimes feel loving their kids is a competition, too.
Violet decided to help Jason and Tommy when they were looking at surrogacy, and was not amused by the fact they decided who the father would be with an arm wrestling match, best two out of three. Jason won. Violet insisted on naming the kid for them so it wouldn't turn into another contest. Jason and Tommy do love each other, but it's so hard for them to be anything but competitive. It's literally their love language. They do make a great team raising their kids, however, and Travis was a bit of a gearhead almost before he could walk, fascinated with cars and bikes and everything with wheels. His first (self chosen) halloween costume was the megazoid, made lovingly out of boxes, construction paper, paint, and paper mache. When he found out Tommy had been a race car driver when he and Jason were considering kids at all, well. His fate was sealed. He's got a rap sheet for illegal drag races, speeding, and a few other things. Jason had to take away the keys for a year while Tommy worked on getting Travis on board with the concept of "time and place" because while Tommy is dumb of ass and pure of heart, he does not fuck around with safety around mechanical objects. especially cars. Now, however, Travis is thriving. He is not on the same team as his sister, ironically while he hates how competitive his parents are, he and his sister are almost worse with their rival ranger teams. Travis is just like Tommy, but tends to have the same manner of dealing with feelings as Jason; bottling to the detriment of everyone around him. Intense, but well meaning. Strong willed and stubborn, but often gets into things on pure righteous fury, or out of a sense of competition or excitement. More than one person has asked him "how are you still alive".
Celeste was adopted in infancy a few years after Travis was born. Tommy has always liked the idea of adoption, and was always grateful for being adopted into the family he was. David threatened them both with their lives if they turned this into a competition, and watched them very very closely through every step. When she was two years old, Celeste stole Travis' toy car and he bopped her in the face to get it back. if you ask Jason, that's the moment the two became rivals. She's been a mild terror, taking apart most things she could get her hands on and later figuring out how to put them back together. The vacuum, the family car, she's just having fun. She also is a little bit of a know it all, especially over mechanical things, and will lecture to whoever listens, though the complexity tends to depend on who she's talking to. Her teammates? a good way to practice going over the subject with teenagers. Her parents? as indepth as she likes. Her brother? middle ground. He knows how cars work, but not how to fix in a pinch. She's become a red ranger because opportunity presented itself, and her brother's two towns over and she loves sending him selfies of her exploits. He's quickly gotten into it as well.
Farkas Bulkmeier;
When Jason came home to take care of his dad after his mom died, Bulk was there almost before Jason's friends were. He had Eugene in tow and they more or less gently bullied their way into getting him to accept help. When his dad finally died, miserable as ever, Bulk pulled Jason over to his place and they played video games and ate until they passed out in Bulk's bed. They have a mild competitive nature to their romance, and the little love affair surprised absolute nobody who took two seconds to think about it. They adopted two girls. Jason's a PE teacher at the highschool, while Bulk is the history teacher. Orla and McKenzie, aged fifteen and sixteen respectively, were adopted a couple years apart when they were in gradeschool.
Orla was originally from Stone Canyon, and Aisha knew her mom. They went to highschool together before she moved to Angel Grove, but they kept in touch. She couldn't keep her daughter, so Aisha helped her screen prospective parents. Jason and Bulk fit, and the paperwork was taken care of. Orla still talks to her mom on weekends when she can, but she loves her dads. Orla is into cross country running and shock put. She loves adventuring and hiking, and is constantly pulling her family out for hiking trips on weekends, as well as camping. Not the most popular girl in school, but she's okay with that. Currently getting into the idea of going into some form of nature study science as a profession. Not associated with a color.
McKenzie is one of the popular girls, though she's also into sports. Hers is soccer. She's also not afraid of standing up for her friends and sister, and her drop kick can shatter tables. Bulk and Jason made her promise not to get in fights in school, as it not only looks bad on her, it could cost them their jobs. So she's careful who she fights. Monsters who the power rangers can't handle are useful, here. At least one of them offered to hire her. Jason and Bulk were. Not Amused. She's considering acting as a career, just so she can do her own stunts. Everyone likes her because she doesn't let people walk over her, but she's managed to be nice about it. Likes history as much as Bulk does.
Trey of Triforia;
Trey owes Jason his life. If Jason hadn't taken Gold when Trey was injured, he probably would have died. Jason owed Trey his life. If he hadn't taken Gold back when he was able, Jason would have died. Having Zeo Gold in common was, it turned out, a great opportunity for bonding. They got closer, and when Jason's dad finally died...he didn't actually look back. Like Billy, he prefers spending more of his time on another planet with his alien lover. When needed, they swap back and forth with gold; it takes them both, accepts them both, and it's an exacting Color, but they have it handled.
They have a daughter. Helen is eight years old. She's a lot like Jason, and that worries both of them. Helen's broken someone's arm over the matter of being bigger and as the princess, more important than the smaller child, and Jason had to sit her down and have a long discussion why this was wrong. He's gone to Earth with her in the hopes if she has a lot of help, she'll get through her anger and internalizing emotions. For now, they're focusing on raising her specifically as a human child on earth. It seems to be doing good for her, and at least they trust who they left in charge of Triforia so she can have both her dads with her. She likes butterflies, and disney movies, and human candy. She likes the kids in the karate class she's in, and her honorary family.
Zack Taylor;
There really wasn't anyone else, honestly. They got each other. Blue and red is fine, and red and pink, but red and black? when it works it works and honestly they work. For obvious reasons, while they started dating in space, they didn't make it public when they came back to earth until Jason's dad died. At that point, there was nothing holding them back, and Zack understood the reason Jason waited. There was never going to be a relationship with his dad if he came out, and he was the sole caretaker. He had a responsibility. Zack respected that.
They have two kids, by surrogate. Kristen of the dark rangers, actually, offered. They didn't talk to the five much, but knew them well enough, after everything. When she offered it was actually a surprise, but they were willing if she was. When they decided they wanted a second kid, she was still willing. They're half siblings. Cleo, aged 24, is Jason and Kristen's daughter. Valeria, aged 18, is Kristen and Zack's daughter. Through this they became better friends with Kristen as well and that was really nice, especially for Kristen.
Cleo's more dramatic and adventurous than her younger sister. She will try anything once, do anything once. The whole world's a stage and she's one of the leads. Not afraid to take life by the horns and ride for all it's worth. A little bit of a mean girl, especially to anyone who dares hurt her sister or sister's friends. Was a queen bee in high school. She designs outfits for athletes. Sportswear is a passion of hers. How to make it fashionable and nice to work out in. Everyone deserves to look their best. She, herself, has an almost boho goth mix as a style. it was a mistake to let her watch incredibles; Edna Mode is her hero and role model. is not associated with a color. However, she'd be Fuchsia if she did. Unusual, and wouldn't have it any other way.
Valeria is 18 and in awe of her family and their legacies. She feels like she won't be able to be able to match any of them, but is trying not to let that bother her. She's captain of a breakdancing team, and mixes it with hard shoe Irish step-dance, which she's been taking classes for since she was four. It's something new, something fun, something her, and while she doesn't see the value in it, Zack and Jason do. Cleo's first experimental skort (skirt/short combo) was for Valeria to better be able to mix both dance styles. It's sometimes difficult for the sisters to talk to each other or show affection, but when they do its usually through things made for the other for their hobbies. Valeria also likes doing basic build type things, such as building sewing machines or computers. She only does this for family, but Cleo loves the custom machine she got. So does uncle Adam.
Currently working at a pizzeria, the tips are good and she likes being able to think while in high stress situations. It's where she thrives. Valeria is not associated with a color. however if she was, it'd be coral or black.
Billy Cranston;
Jason and Billy weren't actually expecting to get together; this kind of just. Happened. Jason's dad disinherited him, and Billy's parents welcomed Jason in with open arms. They've been together since Jason came back and became a scuba instructor. Billy became a science professor, Jason is still a scuba instructor. They have two kids, one adopted and one was a magic spell turned oopsie baby. Jackson is adopted, but not human. He's a Xybrian who ended up on earth after a freak accident with his parent's ship. He's purple haired, and Billy and Jason offered to take him in until a good Xybrian option could be found. No better options were found. He's 27 but still going to school as lifespans of Xybrians are far far longer than humans. He halves his time. school year is on Xybria, breaks are on earth. Extremely protective of little brother Zachary, who is seventeen. He does find it a bit of a whiplash, going from non psychic society to planet full of them, but he's adaptable. Is interested in becoming a cartographer. while associated with purple, he's not interested in being a ranger as of right now.
Zachary was intended to be something entirely different than what he is. Vile created the perfect copies of Billy and Jason's strengths and combined them. Unfortunately, this was what they themselves considered their strengths. Billy's intelligence of course, but his sense of fashion as well. Jason's fighing skills yes, but also his adaptability, and his sense of humor. Vile deemed this a failure, but instead of a spell destroying the young man, he got turned into a baby due to quick thinking from Zack and Rocky. Billy and Jason figured since he existed, they'd just raise him. He's fairly well adjusted, excitable, and really passionate. A little bit of a himbo, a little bit too smart for his own good too. not associated with any color. He was named Zachary Rocky Scott in honor of the two who managed to keep him alive.
Eugene Skullovitch;
They were paired up for a school assignment a little after Tommy was reformed and saved from Rita. It was annoying, especially with Skull being so cagey and Bulk straight up threatening him if he went to the Skullovitch residence or business. When Jason dared, he realized why. And had to get saved from Mrs Skullovitch flirting with him. Which earned Skull a lot of verbal abuse as he pulled Jason far away from the house.
While he found our later she was drunk and had mistaken him for someone older, it was still rather panic inducing. Also embarrassing for the Skullovitch brothers and Bulk. He had to stop Stan apologizing on behalf of her, and understood Bulk’s anger. Jason felt the need to make it up to Skull, and they went from antagonizing each other to friends to semi-secretly dating each other. Everyone knew except Skull’s family. Jason didn’t even know what made him angrier; the fact Skull felt he had to protect Jason, or the fact that he lived in Tommy’s house whenever Tommy’s parents didn’t live there, and Skull’s parents didn’t seem to notice. They have one adopted daughter. Skull’s a guidance counselor at their old high school, and Jason is a karate instructor. Rebecca Scott is actually Stan’s, but Stan died and his girlfriend died in a car crash caused by monster activity, and the newborn was the only survivor. Eugene would have adopted her with or without Jason there. Luckily Jason was there, and Jason fell in instalove with the baby. She was very small and he loved her.
Jason and Skull got married to make it easier for Jason to formally adopt Rebecca, in case something happened and because everyone felt distancing her and Skull from the Skullovitch legacy was the best idea, and this could be accomplished by taking Jason's last name. He was only too happy to do this. He was disinherited by his dad, but it doesn't matter. The guy lost out on getting to know a great kid. Rebecca’s blind from the car accident, and has a dog and a cane to help her around. She’s 15, and nothing stops her. She’s got a lot of caution, but very little outright fear. The power rangers will protect the civilians, and her skills and disability aids help keep her safe as well. She loves to read, and has read every braille book in the library twice. She’s aware her dads are power rangers, and most of her extended family. They’re not going to let anything happen to her. And she’s going to make sure nothing happens to them. Rebecca is opinionated with a very strong sense of right and wrong. She’s actually rather blunt, but tries to be nice about it. She knows her mind and she knows how to direct people, but she hates being in a confrontation. Not associated with a color, but it’d probably be red or bronze if she were.
Matt Cook;
Getting with Jason felt a little like leaning how to breathe again. Jason came home and Matt quickly got into sparring with him every weekend, like old times. It devolved into a lot of pent up rage related sex. And then all of that was gone…and there were two angry hurt teenagers who didn’t know how to be healthy about love or sex. Cut to fifteen years later, Jason’s a mechanic, Matt’s an accountant. And nothings changed. In between then and now, Jason had a kid. He doesn’t remember who the mother was, and anyway Diego Scott was left on his porch basically. He’s four. Matt likes the way Diego likes piggy backs. And dinosaurs and zombies. Matt likes how whole he feels with Jason and Diego. It’s pretty late in life, but he’s willing to make a go of this, if Jason is willing. And so far, he is. Diego keeps the two on their toes, being ready to get into the thick of everything and anything. But he's four, that's typical, and he's Jason's. And Matt thinks the kid's the best.
Emily (last name unknown);
Emily was Jason's on and off again girlfriend all through zeo. She saved him from ending up like Tommy, whose entire life was consumed by rangerdom. When he stopped being gold, he had a small moment of identity crisis, before he got pointed out he had a girlfriend who loved him no matter how much he'd flaked on her, and she was waiting at the beach.
During forever red, the reason he was late was her. He didn't want to lose himself, or worse, die. It was Emily's faith in him and their marriage and love that kept him from making this a habit. He took Red on again as a temporary, before giving it to Rocky. Emily kept him out of the habit. One look at her and their life, and he's fine. He's got what he needs. This is why he put the suit on in the first place.
Emily and Jason have three kids. Maya, aged 27, Rowan, aged 24, and Nathan, aged 16.
Maya's been transitioning for eight years. Jason and Emily were both surprised, but they love their kid more than anything and adapted quickly. When she was figuring out a name, they offered her the name they would have named her if they'd known she was a girl. She has it as a middle name, and chose her first name from another source. Maya's a scuba instructor like Jason. She has a lot of fond memories of how he'd teach her, and they'd go diving around Angel Grove's cliffsides and he showed her the different ecosystems. She thought this was the most beautiful and cool thing in the world. So, she's doing it, and loves getting new people into the hobby. She's a good big sister and knows her siblings well enough to know when they need a Break. She always manages to find them and have them come with on a scuba dive. Both younger siblings benefit from being forced to calm down and take care of their equipment. No hot heads allowed when you're doing scuba diving. She's also always got protein bars in her purse, and trail mix, and other things. Hangry doesn't work either, and food and water on hand is necessary. She's dependable, and takes her life seriously, if slowly. Not associated with a color.
Rowan's self employed. He's a little bit of a wanderer. He's got some ideas what he wants to do with his life, and does it. He's a ghost writer and can get up to four books done a month. He lives in a modified van and will go to Maya's or his parents when he needs a shower and a hot meal. He's been all over California, and has met several teams while traveling. The joke is that he's only going to grow roots if and when he gets a ranger color. This is true, he can't deny, but it wouldn't lock him down to a house or apartment; he likes his current lifestyle too much to just leave it. He's not really Jason. He knows exactly who he is. He's not searching for himself everywhere. He's found himself already, but that self wanders. When he is in Angel Grove, he's usually hanging out with Maya or letting Nathan and Nathan's friends hang out with him. He brings back gifts for his brother, and Maya. Not associated with a color, but he will be. It'll be a little unusual in that it's silver, not gold, but Jason's going to chalk it up with Rowan taking after Emily rather than himself.
Nathan likes the weird and grotesque and odd. He's a little bit of a weido, but his siblings love him. He's got a heart of gold and while weird, he's generally not creepy. Nathan definitely worries his parents. If anyone's going to become some pawn of rangerdom or villainy, it's Nathan. He's always spelunking or exploring abandoned places or picking up dubious and possibly cursed items. Jason's just. waiting. for this kid to start wearing monochrome color coordinated clothing. Or start acting like an utter brat. He knows the signs, he has Tommy and the dark ranger kids on speed-dial. He's waiting. Nathan's annoyed by the perceived lack of faith in him. He's capable, and he's fine. Curious to a dangerous extent, maybe, sure, you could say that, but he's also got a line of caution in it, too. He's genre aware, you could say. He knows when to walk away. But...well. Nathan's competitive and Jason knows this. He's not betting against Nathan getting into a situation out of a sense of justice or because someone challenged him. Nathan does hang out a lot with his siblings, especially with his older brother. Maya's kind of embarrassing, but just because she knows him so well, and his friends tease him his sister knows how to talk him down from things so well. Nathan will be a red ranger, in about a year. And Jason's going to know the instant it happens.
Trini Kwan;
They got together in their teens after putty!Matt got them thinking about it, and after a short time apart, they got back together. Jason and Trini co-parent Minh, and have a kid of their own. Terry Scott is twelve and while deeply enthusiastic over everything, he's rather reserved. Fairly calm, and watchful. He's always pausing before talking. Definitely a mama's boy. However, he likes battle borgs with Jason, and they do watch each new season together. Terry's got no interest in being a power ranger. When Trini died, he had even less interest in it. Kid keeps Jason out of rangerdom, because how could he go back in when Minh's currently a yellow, and Terry's still grieving his mom. Terry and Minh's relationship has gotten really strained, and Jason's trying to keep the family together. Trini'd want him to try.
Katherine Hillard;
When Jason came back, Tommy and the rest were Zeo at that point. When he began really interacting with them again he noted to his surprise Kim had left for a scholarship after graduating a year early, and Kat Hillard was the current pink. Jason was enamored, but respected she was with Tommy.
While they defeated the Machine Empire, Tommy broke up with Kat on account of the trauma. Jason accepts he was her rebound, but they’ve been together since and he’s content, and so is Kat. They have one daughter.
Dena Louisa Scott, aged 27. Dena Louisa is a cartoonist for the local newspaper, and hopes to one day have her comic strips published across America. She also posts her little strips on her own website. The “bugaboo scouts” is a tongue in cheek recounting of the stories her parents told her about their time as rangers, though focusing on the more hilarious aspects of rangerdom. A group of tiny anthropormorphic bugs with attitude are tasked with saving picnic grove! With lots of shenanigans. Smart, quiet, though more in the line of Jason’s brand of quiet. She does have explosive anger, and has been going to therapy for it. Constantly bucks against authority figures, though she’s taught herself how to work through the urge to argue, especially if it’s a fair point. Loves her parents, who are supportive, and often does her best work while at the park. Not associated with a color. She is however part of the mentor flavored comedy duo. They offer advice, though it’s flavored by the past experience of her parents, which isn’t always helpful to the situation at hand. And Dena’s general advice is either “well hit it really hard” or “have you tried the power of friendship?” And are vague enough to not be overly helpful. Is quite nice to the monsters though, and the minions love her while their bosses. Do not. She’s successfully caused two galactic unionizations.
Kimberly Hart;
When Kim and Jason both stopped being rangers, there was a…growing pain, reacclimating to normal civilian teen life, to be sure. With Jason also coming off the heels of having just buried his mom. Kim and Jason spun their wheels for a bit trying to get around the awkward and be there for each other. Eventually it settled into a devoted romance. They have two daughters. Kristine Alana Scott-Hart, aged 21, and Jenny Rose Scott-Hart, aged 17.
Kristine is planning on going into NASA, fascinated by the stars and the adventures of her parents but more interested in the very close by solar system. She’d like to explore Mars, Neptune, Pluto, rather than anything farther. Her reasoning is the ocean is on the planet and barely explored, in lieu of more interesting subjects. Their neighboring planets are a bit like the ocean, and she’s keen on seeing what secrets they hold first, before anything else. She’s been told if she sees a dumpster however, don’t for the love of the grid open the stupid thing. Nobody wants to know what ancient space warlord’s inside. Somehow managed to be more science minded than fight minded, and Kim and Jason don’t know how that happened but they love their kid anyway. Billy thinks it’s hilarious.
She has a fairly easy going relationship with her parents. She can tell them things and they trust her. Not associated with a color, and gets along well with her sister, who is.
Jenny Rose is going to be a kickboxing champion. She decided this at five years old and it’s never changed. She’s a violinist and a kickboxer, and uses the dichotomy to confuse people constantly. Would rather get in the ring with someone than date them. She’s the pink ranger of her team. It’s a little confusing until someone listens to her coaching the putties on how to kick better, and then it starts making sense. When she’s older, she wants to own a dojo and run self defense sessions and kickboxing classes for teens and kids. It’s always surprising to people, but she gets along well with her sister.
Aisha Campbell;
Surprising everyone, including himself, Billy was chosen for the peace conference, not Jason. Rocky became the blue mighty morphin, and Jason struggled with the new dynamic. He often butt heads with Aisha, who stood up for Adam and Rocky against the Red when her boys wouldn't. Adam, Rocky, and Aisha became a throuple, but Aisha also married Jason, who while he did have to get used to it, likes Rocky and Adam as friends and paramours, and likes that Aisha is happy. Together, Aisha and Jason have one son, Seth Landon Scott, aged seventeen.
Seth is not a ranger, and he's not interested in being a ranger. He's more interested in being a park ranger for national parks. Any would do, just so he can be out in nature. He's not really interested in the ocean, and is far more interested in forests and mountains. strong willed, stubborn, imaginative, and happy to help. Is friends with a lot of rangers and ranger's kids, but, he's happy not being a ranger despite their not so subtle recruitment efforts.

Pitch: An absurdist dramady version of The X Files. Like in the style of Pushing Daisies or Northern Exposure. Or Arrested Development lol. where instead of being assigned together they meet at some kind of investigative seminar (or a new agey 'self discovery' thing Melissa dragged Scully to and Mulder's there investigating something or meeting someone?), and Mulder and Scully meet and instantly become inseparable and get married by the end of the conference and have to integrate their lives. It's like a supernatural version of 'Dharma and Greg' except instead of trying to mesh the hippy stoner astrology rebel family background on one side and the WASPy conservative rich family background on the other side, you've got the 'emotionally traumatized and involved in a massive conspiracy involving aliens and eugenics for profit' background and the 'boisterously eclectic middle class family of navy brats and moby dick fanatics' background on the other side.
Scully's a pathologist and Mulder's working the x-files with Jerry from Ghost in the Machine and later Jeffrey Spender, but they end up involved in each other's cases all the time while arguing about them. Samantha was taken but returned like a year/18 months later with no memory of what happened and she grew up feeling like such a freak because of it that she's obsessed with being very normal, so she thinks Mulder is too 'out there' and too overprotective, and doesn't want to believe in the conspiracy stuff. Scully and Samantha don't get along but Sam does think she's better than Diana. Who pops up from time to time to wreck havoc.
Carl Spender is openly Mulder's biological father because it came out when Teena divorced Bill, but he's still a megalomaniacal power monger in the center of a conspiracy and Mulder still hates him, he just also thinks that Mulder should acknowledge him as a 'decent father' because he hasn't let the syndicate outright kill him and hasn't targeted his new sort-of daughter in law. Mulder and Jeffrey know they are half brothers and Jeffry is insanely jealous both because 'Ol Smokey likes Mulder better (cares enough to taunt him instead of just ignoring him) and because Mulder's much better at investigating paranormal stuff. Jeffrey has also always had a crush on Samantha and is trying to protect her from the Syndicate, but Samantha thinks it's too weird that he's her brother's half brother and won't have anything to do with him.
Jeffrey's also jealous that Mulder got married and to such a normal woman from outside the pool of special conspiracy people when CGB will be expecting him to marry who he picks, so he keeps trying to set Scully up in the eyes of the Syndicate or the Bureau in retribution but she and Melissa have the opposite of CC's 'woman danger tragedy magnet syndrome' and effortlessly sidestep his incompetent little plots without hardly even noticing by simply being focused and intuitive.
Melissa is the only one from either of their families who thinks their being married is a good idea. Also Melissa ends up dating the Lone Gunmen. All of them, in a complicated poly situation that both Mulder and Scully are mildly alarmed by this but it's actually very sweet.
Scully's friend Ellen is concerned that Scully doesn't seem to see how suddenly and wildly insane her life became, kind of like becoming a mob wife but with bugs and goo and aliens, but Scully shrugs it off because it's interesting and she has Mulder now so that part's good, plus he needs her, and you can't choose your in-laws can you.

Touch
summary: soulmate au where whenever your soulmate touches you it leaves a temporary imprint on your skin. (aka the soulmate au nobody asked for)
janine/ava/melissa. (platonic work wives mentioned)
ps: this is a part 1. there is more planned. also all mistakes are mine.
Janine is a very touchy person which has always brought trouble to herself. Most people prefer to think she was just a stupid girl trying to find her soulmate. Janine had learned to stop her instincts of touching people very young. At work it takes a long time for her to touch anyone. First time it happens with Jacob, him being her best friend and also gay and having a soulmate already, there was no worries surrounding physical touches. And so there was no awkwardness between them.
Second time she touches someone though, it’s Ava.
It's an accident, obviously. Ava is sitting in Jacob’s place in the teacher’s lounge. Well, it’s not actually Jacob’s place, but it is the place Jacob sits everyday. By Janine’s side. And when Janine sits down, Ava doesn’t get up to leave. She just stays. It is not the first time it has happened. They’re talking. Actually mostly Janine is talking, but then Ava says something funny in return and Janine touches her arm while laughing without even thinking about it. Janine takes her hand off Ava’s arm fast, thinking she fucked up. Then she sees it. Right on Ava’s arm, where she touched it, the mark of her hand. And Janine finds herself speechless (really it’s a first for her, not having words).
Ava takes a few seconds to understand what’s going on. She’s not the kind of person who believes in soulmates. That’s just a cute thing that happens to some people. Certainly not to her. Certainly not with Janine of all people. And yet, she finds herself shocked by the image of Janine’s hand imprinted on her arm. So shocked she just stands up and leaves. Hoping nobody has been paying attention to them.
From the other table, Melissa had been observing the whole exchange. She wasn’t the one to keep probing into other people’s life but she had been keeping tabs on Janine. Maybe she had been turning soft, really. Because she found herself caring for those younger teachers more than she did the ones that came before. Maybe it was that they stayed, and Melissa had to admit she actually respected them for it. Melissa tries to ask, confirm it somehow, but Janine looks like she's about to cry if anyone says anything.
“Come on, let's take a walk.” Melissa says, standing up. Her voice doesn’t leave room open for Janine to do anything other than follow. So Janine follows, quietly. Melissa makes a mental note to go to Ava next, because she can't really believe Ava just left. (She can, if she's honest to herself, but she looks at Janine and gets sort of angry again). Melissa guides them to her classroom, Melissa knows the younger teacher needs some privacy.
“Come on.” Janine enters, Melissa closes the door softly. Janine sits down, Melissa can see she’s holding the tears. “Hey,” Melissa says, “I think she’s just scared.” This makes the tears fall down on Janine’s face.
Melissa pulls Janine into a hug, softly soothing the younger woman. “Everything is going to be fine.” Melissa whispered, softly. Over and over again, until the young woman in her arms calmed down.
“You don't know that.” Janine said, her voice broken. Melissa had let go of the hug, but she was still close, her hand was holding Janine’s.
“I know it mig…” Melissa started saying, but then, something caught her eye. Where her hand was touching Janine, there was an imprint. “Oh, fuck” Melissa said as soon as she realized it. Janine looked at Melissa confused, then followed her eyes to where Melissa’s hand was still holding her. The imprint was starting to fade. It’s a second that seems like they are both frozen in time.
“Is that possible?” Janine asked. Of course, she knew about it. People with more than one soulmate. It was more common with people who had already lost a soulmate. Janine has seen documentaries, not many. But to someone who grew up hearing that she probably had no soulmate, that she was too annoying to have a soulmate, Janine had never engaged the idea of multiple soulmates. She was happy with Tariq, they had been friends, she thought it was the best she would’ve managed to get in her life. And now she was watching as an imprint of Melissa’s hand was fading from her skin.
Melissa. And Ava. Both of them.
“I’ve never seen it happen either…” Melissa let her hand touch Janine again, leaving it for a moment just to see the imprint again. Janine felt like Melissa wanted to say something but was stopping herself. She didn’t try to make her. Instead, she looked at the red haired teacher, her cheeks flushing a bit
“I’m not sure what we’re supposed to do.” Janine admits it, “Have no experience with having soulmates.” the s in the end sounded so foreign to her ears. It didn’t feel real.
“We could talk after school? My place? I’ll make dinner, we’ll have time to think about it…” Melissa offered. Considering her experiences, she wanted to take this slow.
“And Ava?” Janine asked, unsure.
“I can ask her to come to my house. We should probably discuss this all of us anyway” Melissa said, but Janine still looked unsure. “It’s going to be fine, hon, I promise.” Melissa reassured her, and pushed her close to kiss the top of her head. Janine left Melissa’s classroom then. The kids were starting to arrive and they had to do their jobs.
And so they did. Janine went through her day as if nothing had changed. But she felt so different. It felt like a dream, really. Janine considered going to Jacob to talk about it, but gave up on it. She decided she was better off eating lunch by herself, to put her thoughts in place. What she didn’t expect was Ms Barbara Howard going to check up on her.
“Janine, I’m sure everything's going to be fine.” Barbara said, when she saw the younger teacher eating at her classroom, alone. Janine gave a small smile to Barbara.
“Barbara, have you ever seen someone have two soulmates? At the same time?” Janine asked. Maybe she hoped Barbara would tell her that it was common.
“Two?” Barbara asked, confusion clear on her face. “I’ve heard it, yes.” And it seems like maybe Barbara isn’t as comfortable talking about it than Janine thought she would be, because she doesn’t add more than that.
“ When Melissa touched me…” Janine doesn’t finish her sentence. She thinks that maybe she shouldn’t have said anything. Maybe Melissa wants to tell Barbara herself.
“Melissa?” Barbara seemed more confused than Janine herself, but her face soon turned happy. “Well, that’s a good thing. She’s good, and you can be good for her. She might be able to make Ava settle too” Barbara said. “Listen Janine, I do hope everything turns out well with them. Don’t worry too much.” And then she was gone.
-
Melissa, on the other hand, knew exactly where she was headed to during lunchtime. She made the way to Ava’s office fast. But the principal was nowhere to be found. Not that Melissa expected Ava would be doing her job anyway. She walked to the basement. Ava’s bathroom was the next place Melissa had on her list. If she was honest it was the last place too. She kept thinking of the imprint of her hand on Janine’s arm. She thought back of the first time she saw her hand imprinted on someone else.
They had been friends for a few months, Melissa and Barbara. They had started hating each other, at first. Melissa knew the hatred was not real, at least not from her part, but she knew she felt this necessity of having Barb’s attention. They had eventually become friends. When it happened, they were thankfully by themselves. Just them. Melissa had forgotten herself and had held Barbara’s arm, as they laughed about something she couldn’t even remember. Her hand on Barbara’s arm was an image that had haunted Melissa for many years. Sometimes it still did.
Barbara didn’t want to have another soulmate. She had Gerald, and she was ready to have kids. But they could still be friends. And so they stayed as such. Melissa didn’t resent her, she really didn’t. At that point she knew Barb too well. But, sometimes, during a lonely night, Melissa would cry about it. The rejection of her soulmate was a wound that she didn’t think would ever heal.
And then Janine happened. And Melissa didn’t exactly know what to think about it. How to feel about it. She certainly didn’t let herself think about Ava. Well, not until she actually found the principal. Which she did. In Ava’s secret bathroom.
Ava was… She did not look well.
“Ava?” Melissa asked. She had no idea how to approach this conversation. She knew Ava, though. Melissa knew how much of her she saw on Ava. Melissa knew that, when no snarky comment came as Ava looked at her, it was serious. That unlike what she did with work, Ava wasn’t taking this lightly. Melissa approached her. She sat on the floor, by Ava’s side. At least the principal didn’t look like she had been crying. Melissa wasn’t sure she could deal with that. “Listen Ava, I don’t know how you feel about that whole thing, but, hm… You should touch me. Just to test it out.” Melissa blurted out. How do you explain to someone that their soulmate is also your soulmate? Melissa had to test it, she had to know if Ava was also her soulmate.
“What?” Ava asked, confused.
“I went after Janine, after all of that happened at the lounge. I’m also her soulmate?” Melissa explained. Ava looked like she was about to say something; but no comment followed through. Melissa continued, “We’re having dinner tonight, at my place. I would want you to go, even if we’re not soulmates.” Melissa didn’t dare hope that Ava was. She could understand Janine, pushing through life always with a smile, having more than one soulmate. It even made sense that it would be Ava. Ava who’s tough and pretends to not care when she does care a lot. They’d balanced each other out. Ava’s practicality and Janine’s dreamy ways. But Melissa? She was too old, too battered by life. She had already been rejected by one soulmate, what good would come from having another one? She certainly didn’t think she would have a third one.
“Why would you want that?” Ava asked, which made Melissa freeze a bit. She knew she would have to tell them about Barb eventually. But she wasn’t really ready to let anyone else know about it yet.
“Because you’re her soulmate too. I’m not going to make her choose between us. Even if we’re not, we’re still linked by her. And even though you’re a pain in the ass at work, I really like you Ava.” Melissa was honest. Well, as honest as she was willing to be at the moment.
“What if I don’t want to know?” Ava asked.
“I don’t mind if you don’t want to know, but it might be difficult to keep it up for a long time” Melissa said, she didn’t want to force it on Ava. She understood the Principal's behavior in a way. “I mean, Janine is not the only one who’s a bit touch-y” Melissa offered up this little secret about herself freely. Ava laughed a little. It was easy, between them. Melissa felt her cheeks flush. If she had looked at Ava, she would’ve seen the principal was also flushed. A comfortable silence settled between them. For a moment Melissa considered saying something, but couldn’t think of what to say. She looked at Ava though, their eyes met. Ava did not look away.
“Your place tonight, huh?” Ava asked, eventually breaking the silence. It was unsaid that Ava was still not ready to know. Melissa knew it would happen eventually. And even though it made her insecure to think about it, she thought it was important to respect Ava’s own time.
“I’m going to cook.” Melissa confirmed, with a smile.
“So at least I know the food will be worth going.” Ava said.
“Ava, don’t overthink it. I’m sure everything is going to be fine.” Melissa tried to sound like she was sure of it. Truth was, she didn’t know. But she hoped.
Melissa’s phone rang, announcing it was the end of recess and she had work to go back to. She left for her classroom, feeling a little more hopeful for the night than she was before.

I hold by the idea of Tara and Sam having a off childhood from the jump like the idea that their father would dip completely and not stay in contact with Tara, who as far as we know, is his biological kid, just reeks of “I’ve been searching for a valid way out that wouldn’t make me a complete deadbeat and you just gave me one.” He probably married Christina out of obligation since they were together in high school and fell out of love (if he was ever in) years ago. And I like the idea that Christina was always unstable and Sam was the solid foundation for Tara growing up. Sam leaving knocked Tara off balance and made it easier for someone like Amber to insert herself in Tara’s life (shout out to the tamber crowd tho no shade)
Anon I'm in love with you.
I've mentioned before that I had some really dark thoughts on how their childhood could have been, and I have decided I am going to explore some of them. I've kind of held off on them because they seem to focus more on Tara than Sam, and I don't want people to think I love Tara/Jenna more than Sam/Melissa, because that's just not true, I love them equally. I'm just very cautious of the Sam v Tara attitude that I've seen a lot of. My theories hurt both of them, just in very different ways.
I think you're spot on that Mr Carpenter married Christina out of obligation. Neither of them were in love with each other, they were just having fun, but well shit they're in this situation now. Maybe they were even prom king and queen, jock and cheerleader, a real stereotype. Maybe there was an expectation they would end up together anyway. Christina didn't want a fucking baby at 18 but she really did love Billy and now he's dead.
They make the best of it.
She puts her career aspects on hold, he works in sales and sometimes travels for work. Sam is an easy baby, all things considered. She's a deep sleeper and she rarely cries and it means Christina can continue living her life with barely any interruption. He doesn't care for children, but Sam is his and he can admit she's cute in the recesses of his mind. It works for them, they even settle into the role.
Then one day, Christina learns she's pregnant again.
Despite being relatively content with the life she's found herself in, she's not looking to add to it. She makes the mistake of talking about it with a girl friend over lunch, about how she doesn't want another baby. Sam, who should have been napping, is awake and hears and gets excited. It's all over from there. Her husband finds out and he's weirdly excited about it. He didn't pay attention the first time, content to let Christina do the parenting, but he's ready now. He loves Sam, and he can't wait for the baby.
The enthusiasm doesn't last long.
Tara is a difficult baby.
Born 10 weeks early, it takes a month in the ICU before they can bring her home. Sam nags her to see the baby daily, as if staring at the little thing in the basket sucking on a ventilator is worth wasting her time for. She has problems with her lungs from the get-go. And that's only the start of it. She cries, she doesn't want to feed, she won't sleep. There's constant hospital visits and check-ups with specialists. Her husband decides to go back to work early, escaping across the country, previous sentiments forgotten.
One day she just won't stop crying. She was crying when she left to pick up Sam from school, and she was still crying when she returned. The only thing that stops her from taking a pillow to its face is the sight of her daughter on her tiptoes, reaching through the bars to press chubby fingers to its cheek, cooing at the baby. The thing actually shuts up for once.
Christina offloads most of the parenting onto Sam.
Baby Tara is receptive to Sam because she's gentle and touches her and doesn't yell. Babies are sensitive to emotional cues.
By the time Sam is 10, Christina is gone most of the time, working, or not working, it's hard to tell.
They're both cheating on each other. He gets so mad about the Sam lie because of all the years he wasted stuck with her.
Tara starts pre-school a year late because neither of her parents remembered to enroll her. The school tried to put her in the grade she should be in, but quickly realised that wasn't going to work. Tara was smaller than the other kids, and with her health problems, they decided it was better to downgrade her a year.
Sam does her best to help Tara with school, but she doesn't know about learning disabilities or how to help her.
By the time their father left, Christina did nothing except drop off an envelope of money on the counter monthly and pay the bills. Sam learns to forge her mother's signature to sign off on Tara's medical needs.

The Age of Sims 2.6 - Part 50 - “Growing Pains”
These weren't exactly the best years of Treyvon's life -- he hadn't lived a long time yet, but his struggles were unlike many of the other kids he knew which made it hard for him to relate to them on several levels.
He was a privelaged kid -- always had been, but he never focused on that because he simply couldn't relize it. In his world, the only thing that stood out to him was that his father had died before he could hardly understand how to remember him and that his mother had met someone who would change his life even more.
He was frustrated -- too young to have things his own way… too young to understand so many things on so many different levels, but still mature enough to understand that leaving was probably the best thing he could do.
His mother didn't have to allow him to move away, but she understood his pain more than he probably would ever admit… knowing that she was just as heartbroken about the loss of his dad as he was.
Friends around the way had welcomed him back to Brindleton, but the snark behind their words had been clear as day. They were bullies who only yearned to provoke him… and he let them because he agreed with them.
He was one of the smartest kids in his class -- an honor student, one with top-notch soccer skills who was on the brink of going to High School… but some days he felt so much emptiness and lacked the ability to express it.
----------
"What are you doing here?" He asked as he walked with his Uncle.
"Your mom's in town and she brought the whole damn team." Chadwick joked, "I needed some fresh air and figured Babs could use some, too. She's been through a lot because of the travel."
Treyvon stayed quiet as he listened.
"You remember, Babs -- don't you?"
"Yeah." He carefully held his hand out to her.
Chadwick quietly watched, then eased into his suggestion. "You should come by… see your mom."
"It's not just my mom that's at your house." He immediately said. "Bab's here meaning Ken's here and… you know him and I don't get along."
Chadwick nodded. "How about you come by on a day when he's at work?" He shrugged, "Could just be like old times… before Ken ever existed. Just your mom and your aunt -- and me."
"And Babs… and my brother and sister."
Chadwick nodded. "They'd love to meet you."
"They're just babies." He threw at his Uncle as he shook his head, paying more attention to Babs who was now licking his hand.
"Hmm… well think about it, okay? Your mom would love to see you."
----------
It had to be a short visit -- far too short for Melissa, but her heart was filled with warmth when he arrived.
"Grandma and Grandpa says I can't stay long… it's late and it's a school night." He told his mother.
She nodded, just happy to see him in person -- to hear him in person.
"You've grown." She commented, taking in his apperance. "Are those the earrings I've heard of?"
"From who?"
"Your grandma." She shrugged, "She wanted to check in with me first."
"Grandpa has them."
"I know." She nodded, remembering her former father-in-law. "I didn't think that'd be the influence he had on you, but here we are." Her tone was light. "How's school?"
"Good."
"And soccer?"
"I keep up with practice, but I'm not on a team or anything… don't really feel like being tied down like that."
Her expression changed and her eyebrows rose, "Sounds like you're a busy young man these days."
He shrugged.
"I like the room you've got here. That's where we're staying while we're here… Your Auntie fixed it up real good…" She cleared her throat. "I hope you can find time to come over here often… I'll be around until after the holidays… there's a blow-up bed too, if you'd like to stay like I hear you do every so often--"
"Dunno." He quickly said. "I'll have to think about it."
She nodded, desperate to keep the tension between them at bay. "Want some ice cream?"
"Out here? It's cold." He looked at her like she was crazy.
"Inside. Your Auntie's got some vegan ice cream so your uncle doesn't end up in the bathroom for the rest of the night."
"Real funny, Mel." Chadwick finally spoke, after being the silent support to his nephew.
