Australian weekend recap
QUALIFYING
That’s where the whole Ferrari mess started. 
First issue: the RAIN. Spoiler… it never came. I don’t get why Ferrari is always messing up when it comes to weather forecast. For this reason they forced Charles not to do a double warmup lap for his last qualifying lap, but then they allowed Carlos two. That’s what started the whole mess
They then asked Carlos to let Charles go out in front (since he was doing only one warmup lap), but he ignored it and went out anyway (the radio coms are public, please don’t come for me and go listen to them). We then had Carlos on his second warmup lap while Charles was starting his last qualifying lap
At this point they tried to salvage the situation asking Carlos to give Charles a tow (Carlos didn’t want to “it’s tricky”, but Charles didn’t care for it either). Carlos, while he was being informed by his engineer about the gap to Charles, sped up (in that specific sector he went 3 seconds faster than in the previous warm up lap) and opened his drs (we get it Carlos, you didn’t agree with the tow), but then slowed down into turn 3-4. That’s a narrow area of the track and that’s why Charles was being angry and sarcastic in the post-quali interviews, thanking Carlos for the tow in T3-T5. Yes Carlos moved out of the way, but still Charles had to compromise his racing line and that’s the only sector where he lost to Carlos in terms of laptime.
This mess was then deemed a miscommunication problem (a bit too many communication problems in Ferrari in the past two years)
RACE
THE START
If the drivers are not aggressive then they are not good enough, but if they are aggressive and try to gain positions at the start they are too aggressive and emotional. 
Could Charles have been more patient? Yes. 
Did he make a mistake ‘cause he was emotional and frustrated? No for fucks sake. He had moved in front of Stroll and he couldn’t see Alonso on the inside. Alonso slowed down, ‘causing Lance to slow down dramatically and forcing him on the side… that’s when he touched Charles. It was a racing incident. 
Was Max more conservative at the start? Yes, but It doesn’t make sense comparing Max to Charles in these circumstances. Max can be conservative and okay with being overtaken at the start ‘cause he has a fucking rocket below his ass and he knows he will gain all of his positions back anyway, Charles needed to have a good start and gain position from the get go.
THE RACE: It was quite fun to be honest, better than I was expecting it to be
RED FLAGS: in Australia we saw a lot of them. The thing is, they need to be consistent with the red flag use. You want to put a red flag out every single time there’s debris on track? Fine, but it needs to be always like that. You have to allow teams consistency so they can decide strategies and pit stops (with the second crash no one pitted ‘cause all of them were expecting another red flag). This first stop would have penalised massively Carlos and George, who had already pitted for hards
MERCEDES RELIABILITY ISSUES: nice to see it’s not only a Ferrari problem (I’m kidding). George is not my fav driver, but I was sad to see him retire ‘cause up to that moment he’d had a perfect weekend (great quality and great start)
SECOND RED FLAG and RESTART: at that point everybody was expecting it. At the restart Carlow went bowling, took out Fernando and started the whole mess behind. Carlos went long, lost the racing line and crashed into Fernando. It was not a racing incident, the penalty was right (the result was way to harsh ‘cause he finished out of the points, but the penalty was right. It was his fault). 
ALPINE CRASH: Pierre locked up and went long at the first turn then rejoined the track. It was clear, if you look at Esteban race cam, that Pierre was going towards the wall… I don’t know what Esteban was trying to do forcing himself in between the wall and Pierre. First teammate crash of the season, but… let’s be honest… we were all expecting it to be them
THIR RED FLAG: there was carnage on track, so it was justified 
LETS’ TRY TO MAKE SENSE OF WHAT THEN HAPPEN. The lap did count ‘cause the lap counter went up, but since the red flag came before all of the cars could get to sector 2 they didn’t have a new standing order and it was reinstated the previous lap’ one. The restart was a rolling start, but the safety car went in before the last two turns, so the race was basically restarted only to have the cars cross the finish line. Carlos was given a penalty on a lap that existed and was taken into consideration, it wasn’t deleted or anything (even worse for Alpine who couldn’t restart at all). On one hand I’m happy they’re using more red flags (I was in Monza last year and it was an absolute mess how they didn’t stop the race and they didn’t give us a restart), but there needs to be consistency and it needs to be for safety reasons, not for show
RADIOS: I’m happy that they broadcasted Carlos’ radio (whoever filmed him when he was given the penalty… that was a cinematic masterclass). Simply ‘cause he’s kind, polite and objectively very beautiful, there’s always this underling theory that Charles is weak and emotional (He doesn’t go against the box, “he’s weak!” He gets angry, “he’s emotional!” He tries to overtake a car and gets taken out in a racing incident “too unstable, Max would have never done that!”), I’m so fucking sick of it. They’re risking their life driving at those speeds, they are allowed to be human and have emotions, but not being a rude ass alpha male doesn’t equal to being weak. Carlos, the more manly and with a strong character Ferrari driver, according to a lot of people, whined on radio, begging his engineer to force the stewards to listen to him… saying it was unacceptable. Am I gonna make fun of him? Nope, he’s human and allowed to be disappointed at what happened, but please let’s stop it with the double standards. Every and each driver will whine on radio when something happens, so either none of them are crybabies or all of them are.
POSITIVE SIDES: maybe the car was a tiny bit better than last week. With a better qualifying and a not so crazy race I don’t think the results would have been horrendous
