ive seen your post about yuri and its got me thinking. there's this plant named Melampyrum nemorosum (btw its really pretty, one of my favourite field flowers) and one of russian names for it is иван-да-марья, ivan and marya, literally just two names with a dash thrown in for balance
now, would any marya and any ivan qualify for this bracket? like the plant's name contains both ivan and marya, but the names on their own dont have strong ties to this flower
(i dont have any characters for submissions on my mind im just curious)
They do look beautiful ! Very few flowers I didn't know about were submitted -which is logical because I'm quite into flowers- (and I did love submissions of non-English names I've never or seldom heard of before) and it's lovely to get to see a new one !
I've never seen one in real life but it looks like they might be more common in Eastern Europe/Russia than in the West (which may explain why the Russian article looks much more detailed than the ones in English, for instance.
I looked into it a bit (well my Russian is not good enough to understand botanics but for once Google translation was helpful) and from what I'm gathered, Иван-да-ма́рья is their common name in Russian (even the English wikipedia article mentions it), just like most people don't call common flowers by their scientific name. Copy paste it in the research bar and you get a myriad of flowers.
But as you said, the issue is that separately Ivan (which is Russian for John) and Maria are not flower names on their own. So, let's vote ?
(1) They'll have to be from the same media and the duo will have to make sense (siblings, spouses, partners in crime etc but not the gardener's cousin in episode 3 and the unrelated bird two seasons later)
(2) I was thinking of Masha. Ivanouchka is also a possibility and there are others
I'll add A and C for the results, just like B and D. If one of the two combos win, I guess I'll just remake the polls but just with the two contestants in the combo

pride flowers, specifically the flags i associate with me. i like the idea of queer people having these little pride flowers that they carry around with them. sometimes they grow from one thing into another, and sometimes they encompass many things.
my flowers:
- meadow cranesbill (but with six petals instead of five bc of Aesthetics) with the rainbow flag, the lesbian flag, and two little bi buds, because sexuality as a nonbinary person can be Complicated.
- a mix of hairy violet and bird’s foot violet sporting both the colours of the genderqueer flag and the nonbinary flag
- melampyrum nemorosum (in sweden called “natt och dag” - night and day) in the colours of the transgender flag
- burnt tip orchid in the colours of the nebularomantic flag

Of the MANY beautiful and interesting plants I saw recently in Slovenia, Melampyrum nemorosum (Wood Cow-Wheat) was one of the most striking. An unusual annual that plays parasite host to a fungus species. Related to Broomrape and other interesting hemiparasitic plants. Seen growing here at the base of mixed deciduous hedge (Corylus, Alnus, Prunus mostly) on the banks of the Radovna River by Vintgar Gorge. #parasite #plants #plantsofinstagram #purple #yellow #broomrape #herbaceous #annual #landscape #vintgargorge #radovna #river #hedge #slovenia #unusual #picsoftheday #plantpics #gardens #europe #red #iplantsman #hazel #cherry #alder #pollinator (at Vintgar Gorge) https://www.instagram.com/p/B0v3f5ngpuB/?igshid=3bvoo4ixrb41

Flowers are present in our lives from the very first day until the last. Flowers with their unique charisma, symbolise all the high consciousness and blissful states that human beings are capable of feeling, as gratitude, love, forgiveness, hope, joy, playfulness, freedom. . GROW FREE WILD FLOWER! . Bicoloured Transylvanian summer wildflower posy <3 Please help me identify them. It’s a shame I know the scientific name for most of the commercial flowers and the wild native ones not really 😕 Sanziene (Galium verum), Sunatoare (Hypericum richeri), Sor-cu-frate (Melampyrum nemorosum, Clopotei (Campanula trachelium), ...? . . . #wildflowers #wildflowerposy #sanziene #happiness #happinessisfree #meadow #flori de vara #sunatoare #transylvania #romania #transilvania #romanianflora #whiteinbyjulia #naturallandscape #clujcounty #fotografcluj #florafaunaphotography #romanianflora #tinutulflutureluialbastru #earthing #flowersmakemehappy #flowerpower #healingherbs #nature_perfection (at Transylvania, a piece of Heaven) https://www.instagram.com/p/CC6lnbPj2tE/?igshid=1qvngp19pf6kf

After lengthy deliberation in the shower, I've decided that my favourite flowering plant is currently wood cow-wheat, Melampyrum nemorosum (known in Swedish as Natt och Dag- 'Night and Day'- because of the combination of colours). Its seeds resemble ant pupæ, duping ant imagines into dispersing it (myrmecochory). Wood cow-wheat, being in the Orobanchaceæ family, is also a hemiparasite, tapping into other plants' roots to gain resources. I've never seen it in large drifts, as occurs in Swedish and Finnish wood pasture, but I hereby add that to my botanical bucket-list.
