a/n: omg this is my first time writing about the vocal line, so i'm kinda nervous right now, but also i really like how this turned out, so i hope you enjoy it too! also i'm super sorry but i totally forgot that you asked for a fem!reader. the headcanons honestly wouldn't have been any different except for me using gendered language anyway. so i hope you still like it!

cws: sfw, gender neutral reader, fluff, nothing to note here tbh, except for one (1) slightly sexual line (hoseok ofc)

Seokjin: No matter how many prizes he wins, how much the newspapers praise him, at the end of the day the only compliments that matter to him are those coming from you. He wants to hear how much you love his voice, how good he looked, how amazed you were by his performance. He's only satisfied with his work when you declare how utterly and irrevocably in love you are with him. But don't worry, he will return all this love whenever he can, calling you the cutest nicknames, cooking for you whenever you want and believe me when I tell you that this man will show you off to everyone. He wants everyone to know how amazing you are and that you are his to love.

Hoseok: Hoseok sees his main goal in being your boyfriend and an idol in being able to spoil you rotten. Shirts from his favorite designers, tailored jeans to make sure that you legs always look perfect, the most expensive shoes you've ever worn. What's the point in being rich if he doesn't spend the money on you? And you really can't get him to stop, even if you make more money than him. He will still feel the need to spoil you. And of course drown you in compliments. Tracing his hands over your body as you try on some tight clothes, making sure they highlight all his favorite parts of you. Just to rip those clothes off of you at home later.

Yoongi: I know it's a cliche, but he writes love songs about you. And sad songs when he misses you on tour. And happy songs when he sees you sleep on the couch on the studio, feeling completely at peace with him. He just writes a lot of songs about you. You are his inspiration and his muse. Many of those songs never get released, they stay between the two of you, shared during emotional moments, followed by soft talking and sweet kisses. You are also Holly's co-parent. And in almost every photo Yoongi has in his Holly-Journal. He doesn't mind keeping you away from the public, unless it's about the basketball games he gets invited to, especially if you also love the game. He is pretty sad about not being able to also share this passion of his with you.

Namjoon: He is obsessed with your normal day to day life. Which he honestly misses a lot. Please tell him about your run to the grocery store, how overrun the subway was, the cute dog you saw today. He loves to hear about it all and will never get tired of hearing you talk about your day. He sometimes just wants to take you on walks through the city, but due to his popularity it's really hard. So he just schedules those walks to the night, when it's raining and the streets are empty. He also low key posts you on his insta. He is the king of soft launching. There are your shoes in the background, two bowls of food on the table, a sweater he's never seen wearing before on the couch, a shadow in the mirror in the background. It's his favorite little game, how well he can hide you in open sight.

Jimin: You are his number one tripod for his content. He 100 percent trusts you vision when it comes to filming his dance videos or taking his photos. Even if you have no former experience in those areas. He also takes you everywhere! This man is absolutely shameless in taking you to work with him. He doesn't even care if his explanations, why he needs you at set with him all the time are not making sense. He introduced you at one photoshoot first as his personal assistant in addition to his actual assistant, later as his translator the shooting was in korea so no need for a translator and his emotional support human okay this was probably a joke on his side. No one ever dares to object anyways. Including those times when he uses his times with highly ranked stylists to get you set up with some pretty new clothes instead of preparing for his upcoming comeback.

Taehyung: He is in desperate need for a calm spot of comfort in his life and you are that to him. Far away from all the hectic that comes with being an Idol you are his home and the place where he can 100 percent be himself. After a long day he loves nothing more than to fall onto the couch next to you and hug you tightly until he falls asleep. As you talk about your day, petting his soft hair. When he can't come home to you, he calls you in the evening when he is in bed at some hotel on the other side of the world. Just needing to hear your voice to finally calm his mind. Additionally Yeontan loves you almost as much as he loves Tae so you are the perfect dog sitter, and yes this includes managing the scheduled facetimes between the two of them when Tae is on tour.

Jungkook: Please note that he will kick you out of whatever room he wants to stream in, when he streams. Your shared apartment? No it's his personal filming studio and you live in it. I hope you are good at turning off cameras without being visible on them, because that is your job whenever he falls asleep on the camera. But all jokes aside he is always so excited to come to you after streams, asking if you watched it. You didn't need to, because you could hear him in the next room over, but just say yes, because he loooves you validation. "Did you like that photoshoot I did? What do you think about my dancing in that tiktok? Did I sound good during that performances?" It's almost as bad as Jin but Jungkook pairs it with his huge pretty puppy eyes, tearing into your soul. Also, he will tease you with his song lyrics, especially the spicy ones. Just to get really flustered by your answer afterwards.

LOL i think when i wrote that in (because the kiss scene was the first part written of ch04/acswy in general) andi commented on it like HEHEHEHE as well! we'd been vocal about the parent trap references before so i think it was a nice easter egg to put in there! there were definitely some people who knew the kiss was coming but maybe not a full blown make out while swoon by beach weather plays in the background 💘

i will remain silent on all of the intricacies of mike and will's 13 year old kissing and the fearless lore BUT i can at least reiterate what ch04 confirmed: they have kissed before! they were 13! it was mike's first kiss! at this time, i cannot confirm or deny that it was will's first kiss as well!

loving the way this neurodivergent line is probably the standout of ch04 because when i initially wrote it, it was definitely somewhat of a joke -- and then suni and andi said NO LEAVE THAT IN and it's everyone's favorite HAHA

Which trial's song from each prisoner is the better one?

Fun thing I thought I'd ask myself. Since most song vs. song debates come down to character preference how about we just pit one character's songs against each other? Tee hee.

Haruka - All-Knowing and All-Agony is my pick. The piano melody in the background is honestly just breathtaking. As much as I overall like Weakness' guitar and harmonies, i think AKAA is overall the better product.

Yuno - Tear Drop. The chorus just absolutely bangs and the synths are so good. This is a very slight win because honestly Umbilical is kind of on the same level in my mind - they're both similar in the vibes department, but have different strengths. I also have to give props for being the longest T2 song by far.

Fuuta - Backdraft. I'm pretty neutral on Fuuta as a character which makes me not listen to his songs quite as much... Extremely slight win, 'cause I like it's consistent level of energy. Ask me tomorrow and I'll probably say Bring It On (the last chorus especially is so damn good). Fuuta's CV's voice is an absolute treat.

Muu - After Pain. I was obsessed with this song when I first got into Milgram and still kind of am. It just sounds so uniquely 'lonely', conceptually extremely sad and yet somehow cheerful. It fits Muu's character really well. I also love INMF for it's isolated vocal moments where Muu's CV can really bring her all into it, but overall, this is my pick.

Shidou - Triage. I've never liked Throw Down all that much because it's always sounded almost Too normal and neutral to my ears. Triage has this soft melancholy in its instrumental and somber vocals during the verses. And also, that final chorus... OUGH. I can see why someone would prefer Throw Down, though.

Mahiru - I Love You. I really like how this song played with everyone's expectations when the previews came out. Mahiru rapping is so fun and really works compared to the cutesy idol-like chorus. The lines before the final chorus and the double-voiced rap part leading up to it is also fantastic. TIHTBILWY has instruments I like a bit more, but kind of suffers in the interesting concept department IMO.

Kazui - half. Gonna be a contrarian here, but this song has always been one of my favorites. It's very unique in Milgram's selection of songs with its slow, soft melody and almost minimalistic instrumental compared to the others. It sounds sad, Kazui's CV is so soft with his voice and yet expressive. Besides, it's a song about unrequited love. This was made specifically for me I feel. Cat is also really, REALLY good, i love Cat, but. Half. !!!!!!!!!!! I blow up

Amane - PURGE MARCH. DO I NEED TO EXPLAIN MYSELF. I like Magic, but it pales in comparison to this song's mixing, its chanting, its concept, its MV.. GAHH!!! THE AMEN BREAK?????? The verse repeating the 'commandments' over Amane's singing? What else do you want me to say. This is a banger.

Mikoto - MeMe. Harder metal instrumental = me likey. The chorus is gorgeous, and the back-and-forth between the two styles is especially great. I prefer Mikoto's CV's voice in Double, but I can't say I prefer Double because it's just too damn short, not to mention it only being 2 verses and 2 choruses with a long speech break. I love Double, I really do (also because a piano is always good), but... MeMe has the tightest grip on me.

Kotoko - Deep Cover. I've never been the biggest fan of Harrow. I love Deep Cover's gimmick of counting the prisoners and the Undercover mirroring, plus it has Double's appeal with the bridge before the chorus sounding angelic. I wouldn't say I love it, but it's really good.

11. I hate F/lling in R/verse so much and I hate all music that sounds like them too. Not even for moral reasons or anything. If the lead singer of that band was actually a good person, I'd still hate their sound. I'm too burnt out to go on, so I'm just going to copy and paste parts of a rant I wrote about their cover of Gangsta's Paradise back in 2019.

It’s a bad cover. This is subjective, I know. All of my life experiences, perspectives, and personal philosophies lead me to the point where I think it’s bad. The instrumentation is okay, some of the drumming is actually pretty good. However, the vocals do not match the lyrics. You know when a musician sings the national anthem and it seems like they don’t actually understand what they’re saying, but they’re hitting all the expected beats (i.e. hold this note, raise pitch here, etc.)? Yeah, that’s what it sounds like.

I listened to the cover before revisiting the original and the difference in framing is remarkable. I’ll talk about the music videos first, since that’s the most obvious. I think it’s also super important to point out that the music video is gritty. Not that it’s dark in content, but it’s not glamorous. This “paradise” they’re talking about is dangerous.

Compare this to the cover. The music video is sleek, glamorous, and full of hot chicks and badass-looking dudes. This imagery has a huge disconnect with the content of the song. And the disconnect isn't like "we're using contrast to heighten the themes and emotion of the song" (like the way the original song sampled Stevie Wonder for the chorus), but rather it seems to say "we have no idea what this song is about". Here are some lyrics:

Look at the situation they got me facin’ I can’t live a normal life, I was raised by the streets

I’m 23 now, but will I live to see 24 The way things are going I don’t know

They say I gotta learn, but nobody’s here to teach me If they can’t understand it, how can they reach me?

My point, is that this band didn’t cover Getting Jiggy With It. This is a political song. I don’t know anything about the backgrounds of the band members, but the attitude in the cover reeks of privilege. For all I know, they could have experienced the exact same things described in the original, but it doesn’t come through in the delivery. The lyrics “if they can’t understand it, how can they reach me?” is supposed to sound pleading, almost defeated. But the frontman belts it out with this cringe-worthy growl that just doesn’t connect. I’m not denying that a band could do a cover where they talked about their struggles growing up surrounded by crime, but instead, we got this tone deaf (and I mean that in more ways than one) cover.

I should clarify that Coolio was apparently okay with this cover. At least, he was okay enough to show up in the music video. It’s strange, since he was so vocal about Weird Al’s parody when it came out (and I love Weird Al, but…yeah, I think Coolio had the right to be upset). I’m in no position to say what Coolio should or shouldn’t do with his own song. But Weird Al made a much more dignified cover with a better vocal performance than the cover.

Okay okay okay lets take it from the top and just go all the way through because my favorite lyrical part of the song is the entire song so I will chose very carefully

This line gives me so much catharsis as someone who has had trouble crying in the past, who has had trouble laughing, just fuck yeah it's just your voice learning to stand up tall, yeah it is

"I will be the man my father never was" -- the way Joey's voice just drops and leads into the background vocals kills me

"And what you see is not the dark / It’s just the gods upturning inkpots / 'Cause they know what you'll become"

The idea of the darkness knowing is just-- I--

Okay the story building in this song is beautiful and this is just a beautiful moment to me which might be my issues with my mother coming through strong but the idea of being strong enough to become more than what you mum told you to be makes me scream and Madeline's voice doesn't help

"And I know she’s giving up / And I don’t know what to do, how to help her / How to bring her home" -- the way Joey's voice *drops* when he says 'giving up' makes my heart hurt because fuck, how do you help someone when they're giving up? When they're at the end of their rope? What do you do?

"And I wish that I could take his hand / But where I'm going is for me and me alone"

I could fucking cry I mean it I could fucking cry I will cry I have cried this line fucking hurts

"If I don’t make it back from where I've gone / Just know I loved you all along"

To just end this entire album on the message of I loved you, you have been loved, you have been loved this whole fucking time. All these songs hit so fucking hard and TAD always fucking comes for me because there's so much emotion and it kicks me in the fucking chest

Reviewing Fall 2022's Anime Openings: My Hero Academia (Sixth season, first half; 9th OP overall)

Hitamuki ("Single-minded"), by SUPER BEAVER

Opening director: Tsuyoshi Tobita

My Hero Academia's newest opening kicks things off with a dorky-looking handwritten title card underlined by a bodacious guitar riff. It then proceeds to undercut anything they were going for with that, by hard cutting to the show's normal logo on a black screen once the vocals kick in. This start is rather representative of the OP as a whole.

Gonna be upfront and say that My Hero Academia's growing line of OPs haven't really sparked with me. There are only two that I would say "I enjoyed" when they came on, as opposed to "I patiently watched them run their course." This is mainly because they kind of all try to do the same thing... Hitamuki stands out with scenes rendered in an alternate art style - arguably a first for the series. Monochromatic backgrounds, giant written sounds, rough outlines and bold shading... the outline->bevel->drop-shadow look of the credits text is blatantly clashing with the aesthetic, and a handful of shots don't really have any sense of flow connecting them, but I appreciate what we have right there.

Then the chorus kicks in and the animation switches to the anime's normal artstyle. At the part where an OP typically goes all-out, it decided to kill off the one thing that made it unique.

Everything from that point on is just tricks and tropes already beaten into the ground by the OPs before it. I'm having a hard time describing the rest of the contents in a succinct fashion because it felt so aimless. But the majority of it is fast-paced animation-intensive shots designed to stimulate your senses, of heroes jumping into the sky and/or throwing out their respective attacks in the direction of some off-screen threat. Yeah, I remember when that amazed me back in 2017. And remember my nitpick about scene flow? Yeah, it's still out of wack! I just cannot get over how the opening's chorus-hype moment consists of the heroes trying to assault the camera for all of four seconds, then we see a shot of Hawks that looks like it's going to transition into something with all the flashing lights, only to hard cut to a completely unanimated group shot that lasts for the entire rest of the musical phrase! They didn't just stop the car, they negated its velocity and inflicted whiplash.

Thing is, though, even if someone reanimated every scene in the OP to look like the first half, and then rearranged them all until they discovered an order that flows 60% better, this product would still fall under the sin of not being that great a representation of the program it's attached to. Sure it makes sense for a My Hero Academia opening, but it's kind of off-base for a My Hero Academia 6th Season opening. It doesn’t feel like it’s trying to sell me on something different than its predecessors. Like, yeah, I guess the throwaway shots cram in all the characters who get relevance in this respective cour, but all the core shots are focused on Deku, Bakugo, and Shoto, even though part of the narrative made me forget they existed for at least a full episode. Yeah, if you pay attention you’ll see the characters are being depicted against various sceneries that line up with the time said character did a thing in said place, but yet the OP doesn’t feel like its heart is in it. It just feels like another OP that calls out, "Join your favorite heroes as they train for greatness, and eventually get in another scuffle with dark forces!" That is not the case for Season 6. The first episode sees the Hero Association proceed to throw every hero and hero-in-training they have at the enemy's base(s) of operations in an attempt to thwart the League of Villians* once and for all. This isn't the kind of arc you give an OP with a basic, inoffensive excitement curve. It should be balls to the wall from the get-go! *Not officially their name anymore, but I can't remember the new one.

As for the opening theme itself, it's... fine? I mean, it's exactly the kind of rock song you'd expect to hear on this show once again. But my feelings upon listening to it kept oscillating between "a cute yet powerful self-contained ditty" and "a generic bout that sounded cut up to fit the time limit."

For the record, I'm not completely caught up on the anime as I write this, and have yet to witness whether the OP succeeding makes any improvement.

12. What is something you want right now?

The Amazing Devil's album, Love Run. The songs are gorgeous, the lyrics moving, the vocals lovely, aaahhh its just lovely. I would buy at least my favorite songs on bandcamp, but the prices are in pounds and that intimidates me. I don't know how to do that and I am honestly too afraid to ask.

29. What if your favorite film(s)?

I absolutely adore Quest for Camelot because it has great representation for disability (one of the characters is blind) as well as a fucking fantastic soundtrack.

I also love the Prince of Egypt because it has a lovely soundtrack and beautiful animation.

I also love Girl's Lost. Its a Swedish movie where three friends gain the ability to like, physically 'become' a guy because of a magical flower and one of the kids realizes he's trans and struggles with this and its just the epitomy of my trans fantasies as a child. Like 'haha wouldn't it be crazy if one day, BAM I was a dude? Crazy haha right? I only fantasize about this almost every day in some way or another!' And despite not being the best form of representation, it's a great step forward for like, casual representation in media? And it means so much to me because it was the first movie with trans rep I had ever seen.

Along the same vein, I love The Way He Looks. Its a Brazilian film about a blind teen who meets a new student at his school and they become friends and then fall in love, struggling with discrimination because of his disability and normal teen issues like struggling to express one's emotions, which is SUPER relatable. Uh, also its gay and it was on Netflix and i am hella pissed it was removed

43. What is your favorite song ever?

How dare you? Ask ME this??? I am indecisive as shit and my tastes vary vastly from week to week, so really nailing down a Song(tm) that is my favorite is Super Fucking Hard, ngl. I could maybe list songs from certain genres that are my favorite, which is still kinda hard. So I'll do that :-)))

Rock. Euh I think it'll have to be King For A Day by Pierce the Veil. That song comes on and a part of me goes feral

Punk. If you classify it as punk and not emo, I'm leaning toward Famous Last Words by MCR. I love so many of tbeir songs, but I have a habit of listening to this, Mama, and Sing on repeat for hours on end

Indie. I think its gonna have to be Wildfire by Seafret. It sounds so good and, no joke I cried the first time I watched the music video on youtube, it's so beautifully emotional and hopeful in regards to love.

Folk. I don't listen to a ton of this unless its a particular song, but I absolutely adore Red is The Rose by the High Kings. Its one of my top favorite love songs, no lie

Broadway musicals. I love School of Rock, it was the first musical I saw on Broadway, and I love to listen to Stick It To The Man on repeat as like the background music for my fantasies of yelling at my parents. I used to listen to it on repeat every day in 8th grade while i worked on high school Bio online. I would also play coolmath games while not paying attention and use Brainly amd Quizlet to cheat when I didn't know the answers, so...
