Freemod Context! (Long!!)

This is Gordon Freemod! He’s my own little AU Gordon, and I love him!

I made him based around the way I play Garry’s Mod

Cause, in Gmod, my player model is Gordon, and I literally cannot change it because whenever I go to change my model he just

He looks at me. He judges me. He’s just refusing to let me change it.

Here’s just. A bunch of things about Freemod that aren’t related.

Btw, this whole thing is me going-

These were all taken from various moments of me info dumping to my discord friends about him, so, that’s why there’s so many that are barely related.

To get some characterization down, Freemod can go from Excited Sweet Voice at Everything to This Man is in God Mode and He is Staring You Down as You Attack Him

They’re also

very scared of Gman

It’s not even funny

ANYWAYS something else about Freemod, he likes starting all out fights between people, but he’s very polite too so like

Someone says hi to him and he gives this big ol smile, next thing you know, he’s spawning headcrabs that could wipe out an army

He also has no idea what to do with bodies like sometimes he just Sweet Voice cocoons them, and other times he just beats them rapidly if it was a combine or something

Another thing! He doesn’t like making eye contact 100% of the time! If he gets too excited as well, he’ll despawn whatever was making him excited until he calms down.

He’s also really fast when it comes to no-clipping.

He’ll shoot up into the air and fling himself from place to place, just absolutely soaring and loving that feeling of flying through the air

He definitely makes Catboy Calhoun jokes but like

He’s also really nervous around Calhoun sometimes like he’s constantly checking in on them after making them fight a ton of headcrabs.

He doesn’t really like using the majority of the guns. He just typically uses the quieter/less frantic weapons like the magnum or the crossbow.

He’s like

Magnetically drawn to mirrors. He likes watching himself do the Sweet Voice and will do it for hours when he’s in the right mood if someone doesn’t stop him

He’s very giggly and smiley when it comes to hearing other characters talk. But he also can be very mean and cutting to the people he doesn’t like. Especially combine.

Freemod really likes Houndeyes.

*Really* likes them.

He spawned in a group of 8 and just watched them for a while, and then he spawns a MP Combine. It proceeds to stun stick every one of them. And they all die in one hit. They don’t even fight back.

What Freemod does next is basically the equivalent of “die a very painful death” and just beats the shit out of them while alive and dead.

They have to erase everything because they can’t stand the sight of the bodies of Houndeyes.

Hi! Sorry to take you out of the immersion of reading my brain goo, or the annoyed scrolling of “Oh my god will she just shut up already” but!

Another thing I decided to do with him, I gave him a little plot. A hint of his own character rather than just being me but an AU Gordon.

So here that is!

I feel like the only true way to contain Freemod and keep him from destroying the world is by keeping him in gm_construct

He likes it there sure, but like

If someone let him into Black Mesa let’s just say that the Resonance Cascade would’ve been way sooner and way more intense.

All he really does is fly around in there. Just. That’s it.

It’s his own personal Bug Bucket.

I don’t even think he realizes he’s trapped to be fair?

Another thing with Freemod, I’m not exactly sure how he’d react to... say, the HLVRAI characters showing up in gm_construct one day, idk Benrey takes the gang on a trip to there out of nowhere and they find Freemod just vibing by himself, flying through the air on a capture point from TF2. I don’t know if he’d:

A: Summon a bunch of things to attack the HLVRAI crew for the fun of it

B: Immediately try to befriend all of them desperately

C: Possess a creature and disregard them

D: All of the above

Cause with all this “He’s trapped/alone” sorta thing, I don’t know if I’m making him into a villain or am I just making him very touch starved and sad?

Cause like, earlier I did say that if he was let out of gm_construct, the resonance cascade would’ve been sooner and more intense

Basically what I was thinking is that he doesn’t really limit how crazy his thoughts experiments can be that often, so like, he spawns a bunch of things all at once to see what would happen.

But he’s not like that all the time, like I said, he’s also very polite, he’s just got a thin coating of God Mode on and he’s very lonely.

I was trying to figure out the thing with Freemod’s voice actually. I’m trying to think what they’d be like on the Gordon Scale.™️

I’d say he’s able to speak, but he doesn’t do it often. Because typically he’s only around NPCs and they can’t respond to him the way he wants, so why actually talk to them?

But he definitely talks to enemies as sort of a “I am the last thing you’ll ever hear” kind of thing.

But if he were to meet a different Gordon or someone with sentience he can talk to, he’d speak. Totally.

He talks to some of the alien/animal NPCs, cause like!!! Come on!!! That Houndeye over there needs to know that he’s a good boy!!!

So, maybe when Freemod is upset or something, he spawns the biggest thing he can possibly think of and posses it, and goes on an absolute rampage until he’s better

So I can just imagine.

Freemod, not feeling great and tense:

Feetman: Mod, hey. Don’t do it...

Freemod: *spawns and possesses a Gene Worm, and roars*

Feetman: FREEMOD NO GET OUT OF THE GIANT MONSTER-

Or like. He just possesses something and just. Flies away.

He just has moments where he’s too out of his head and he needs to just escape.

Something he’s been doing recently is possessing a Stukabat and flying up on top of a roof of a really high building and just. Viewing everything.

This man is SAD please hug him :((

Ooh, another thing,

He doesn’t like that dark room at all. In gm_construct? He will not go in there for more than a minute. That place scares him so much. Not even the fact that it’s dark, he just hates that he can’t see anything and while he knows he’s alone in the world he’s in, and he controls what can exist there or not, but, he just refuses to go there, even with a flashlight.

Aaaaaand that’s all the content I’ve made for them so far! Now that y’all know the context for him, I’ll post the comic of him meeting the HLVRAI characters, as well as some other drawings!

hey!! I always love when you post your artworks, so i wanted to ask: do you have a favorite technique? Do you have any wip or ideas that you haven't had time to work on yet?

I don't really have like.. any consistent techniques? I usually block out the general shape of what I'm drawing with a colour (or two) tho and use that as a guide!! Like that ⤵️

I have many thoughts about V and so I will talk about them here because drawing is hard and I’m lazy It’s mostly Act 2/3 talk because that’s when funny french bootboy shows up and the military attacks gordon but if u read i’ll kiss you /j

V meets the science team- or more specifically, Benrey- sometime in early Act 2. The only reason they don’t immediately get their shit kicked in is because Benrey insists they’re his friend despite only meeting maybe an hour ago and, through some stretch of the imagination, Coomer insists they give V a chance.

V tags along for a while, keeping a Reasonable Distance as Gordon reminds them that they’re on thin fucking ice and the Science Team absolutely obliterates the military. They seem like a pretty solid ally as the Science Team makes their way through Black Mesa, offering medical assistance and some sharp shooting.

When the Science Team sees Forzen later in Act 2, V immediately fucking books it in a similar manner to that One Rat Vine, you know the one. They remain M.I.A. until the Science Team sees Forzen again shortly after, where they are hiding behind a crate until they are picked up by their backpack by Forzen and dangled around like a sack of potatoes for a bit. They take some personal offense to “I’ve always been the only one in t- Teams... n- Nice.”, childish arguing ensues, and V books it after Forzen as soon as more members of the military show up. They get lost in the tunnels and meet back up with the science team after the whole Beyblade interrogation bit, and have to explain that they didn’t run away, they just got lost, and everything’s back on track.

Going to the surface is generally the same, everyone talks about what they’re going to do when they get out- V’s short attitude gives way for a much calmer moment where they talk about going to art school or something like that. Idk something that just seems totally opposite of their character in the moment. They fuck off to mess around in the background of the scene be trying to catch pigeons.

Act 3 Part 1 is mostly the same, V cracks some jokes and just tags along for the most part helping out the Science Team, up until the end of Part 1 when they start to learn about the tracking devices in Gordon’s suit. Things start to get tense and V starts to get anxious until they’re distracted by the Black Ops showing up, and of COURSE they’re gonna make tit jokes. I mean, the Blac Ops have huge boobs. i mean some serious honkers. a real set of badonkers. packin some dobonhonkeros. massive dohoonkabhankoloos. big old tonhongerekoogers. You know the drill.

Once they finally reach the “surface access” room, V can tell something is off, but they’re not sure what. As soon as the lights cut out and the sound of static comes across a radio, they just go “Oh, you motherfuckers.” before falling silent for the rest of the act.

They’re missing up until after the boss fight with Coomer, and Gordon is not happy to see them, fully convinced they had something to do with him losing his arm. In reality, they had nothing to do with it and likely got their shit kicked in for helping the scientists they were supposed to be killing. They frantically explain this to Gordon, eventually earning his trust back when he realizes that they really didn’t betray him. They join the team once again to go find Bubby, and they’re more willing to take down the members of the military that they encounter this time around.

When they encounter Benrey again and everyone pulls out their passports, they do, in fact, have their passport. It’s met with a “Why do you even have that on you?” from Gordon, to which they reply “I forgot my drivers license at home.”

They are terrified of heights and hate the entire cliff sequence, but goddamn if they don’t lose their shit at the helicopter heap- They 100% play up that this is a Normal Military Device and then never mention it again.

When they meet Darnold they absolutely adore him, like, Darnold has got to be their favourite person they meet in Black Mesa I think. Please tell them more about potions.

As for finding Sunkist... :) violence /j It takes them a few seconds but when they realize that Forzen has kidnapped Tommy’s dog and they process what he’s saying in French, they just absolutely lose their shit.

“Do not come any further, I’m the remaining- I’m the US Military left.” “I’ll just go fuck myself then.”

“ VIENS PAS PRÈS DU CHIEN SINON JE VAIS LE TUER!” “...YOU’RE GONNA FUCKIN’ WHAT!?”

All that unfolds, they all chase after Forzen, he does his gay little voguing and disappears, and V just scoffs and goes “Typical.” or smth like that before moving on to talking about Tommy’s cool dog for a bit.

And then everyone goes to hell! I’m too lazy to talk about all that rn though and I’ve already talked a lot if you read all this thank you I love you

Other funny little notes: - Everything the Science Team says about killing the military is either met with unbridled enthusiasm or Genuine Terror, and more often than not it’s the latter - V knows a lot of cool science facts about plants and rocks and other shit like that - V and Forzen were both members of Teams Nice and it started as a joke based on the both of them being Canadians - “Gordon, I have good news! We have finally wiped out the entire United States Military!” just results in V turning into that one math meme - Their sort of funny Trait TM is just... offhanded smartass comments, honestly. Somebody asks if a dead guy is ok, they say they’re sure he’s fine, that sort of thing. - If they used a canon character model it would probably be the same one as Adrian

YES!! i have a LOT of aesthetic thoughts and more thoughts are forming as we speak

I think Coomer would absolutely be first to wake up; but when he does, Xen is totally empty-- no science team, no benrey, no sweet voice or skeletons, no nothing.

everything seems dim, and the world’s distorted in the way that tends to happen when you have a fever-- the walls seem to move but as soon as you move your eyes, they hop back into place.

Coomer walks around for a while, obv disoriented and confused, but used to weird shit happening since it’s been happening to him since the realization he’s been in a game all along.

then he turns a corner and finds himself back in black mesa-- except now it’s a labyrinth, and textures are occasionally fallling out of place-- either missing or on the wrong surfaces.

he eventually ends up finding the others, and they have to like, venture together to find the cause, since... well, they don’t know the player shut down the game. maybe coomer has a hunch, but he’s not totally sure.

benrey and gordon are probably around the heart of the whole labyrinth of levels, and the center i imagine would some weird, distorted place, with the cold tile floor of black mesa, bleeding into the almost fleshy walls of Xen, with patches of blue sky that fade into nothing. there’s a lot of lost houndeyes and headcrabs blipping in-and-out of existence too.

benrey would also be TRYING to keep them lost bc he doesn’t want them getting hurt, bc the center would be the most dangerous, glitchy, and corrupted part.

the player models would be corrupted too, the levels of corruption designated by the ‘importance’ of the character-- gordon the least, and probably tommy or coomer the most.

ANYWAY i rambled on a while but.... i love the idea and the aesthetic that’s in my head..... maybe i’ll draw some of them later idk......

i think i’ll call it the Atlas AU for now since. y’know. atlas/benrey comparison
