Matt Redman Introduces New Live Album Recorded In The Ruins Of A Historical Place Of Worship
‘Lamb of God’ was recorded live at The Mission in San Juan Capistrano, a settlement founded in 1776 and recognized as the birthplace of Orange County. Matt Redman’s new album reflects on the age-old centrality and wonder of the cross.
The contrast of these brand-new songs in the context of a historical place of worship is a significant marker of Redman’s heart to keep the people of God singing to Him. The album’s title track encapsulates its concept, reminding the Church that among so many amazing sights in this world, the greatest wonder will always remain the Lamb of God on Calvary.
“The best songs help us breathe in truth, and breathe out a grateful, reverent and passionate reply,” Redman says, “I really hope the songs on this album will do that.”
The cruciform focus as well as the ancient and modern styles of worship represented in the 14 tracks make this album one that resonates with the young and old alike. Recording ‘Lamb of God’ in live settings also beautifully captured the devotion of people singing to their God; among the strings and keys textures, the artist intentionally left a lot of sonic room for people’s voices to shine.
Commenting on the songwriting process, Redman mentions the importance of “aiming for something meaningful and fresh,” which he achieved through co-writes with many of today’s worship landscapers.
‘Lamb of God’ features contributions from Jason Ingram, Matt Maher, Cody Carnes, Mitch Wong, Benjamin Hastings, and Jon Guerra, as well as people Redman hadn’t written with before, such as David Funk, Aaron Moses, and Taya Gaukrodger.
The theological, musical, and communal heartbeat of ‘Lamb of God’ is topped off by its artwork. The photo depicts an art-piece by artist David JP Hooker from Wheaton College, IL, which Redman’s daughter, Maisey, captured. Hooker took an old corpus statue of Christ which he covered in debris from vacuum cleaner bags – with the thought that in those bags would be people’s skin cells and hair.
The metaphor for our sins placed on Christ resonated deeply with Redman and the essence of his new record. From the brand-new songs to a re-imagining of ‘Heart of Worship’ – Redman’s early classic – ‘Lamb of God’ invites us once again to stand amazed at the greatness and grace of our God. Singing of both the cross and the crown, Matt Redman offers the Church this new collection of profoundly worshipful songs.

Matt Redman Supports ‘The Chosen’ TV Series With New Song
Matt Redman is a GRAMMY-Award winning worship leader and songwriter who has been a leading contributor to the global Church’s songbook over the last twenty years.
He recently announced a new album, ‘Lamb of God’, introduced with first single ‘Son of Suffering’, which will be part of The Chosen’s third season’s finale.

“For Christ's love compels us, because we are convinced that one died for all, and therefore all died. And he died for all, that those who live should no longer live for themselves but for him who died for them and was raised again.” —2 Corinthians 5:14-15 (NIV)
Here’s a thought. What motivates people to do things? What drives people to work, create, accomplish, achieve, keep going, pursue things, move forward in life? Is it competitiveness? Fear of failure? A need for the security of possessions, a nice house, money? Friend, what motivates you to do what you do? Paul said that Christ’s love was his compelling force: “Christ's love has moved me to such extremes. His love has the first and last word in everything we do,” says Paul in one translation. Does Christ’s love have the last word in everything you do? If not, how do you think your life would be changed if Christ’s love was the driving force in your life? What would happen in our lives if love was truly the most compelling factor in how we act and in everything we do and say? 2020 is a clean slate, a brand new decade of infinite possibilities. Jesus “included everyone in his death so that everyone could also be included in his life, a resurrection life, a far better life than people ever lived on their own.” 2 Cor 5:15 (MSG) You and me, we’re everyone. Jesus died as a penalty for our sins - so now we can be included in His resurrection life, if we choose to be, that is. Jesus extends an invitation to be included in His love - a love so overwhelming that it compelled Jesus to die for us - because His love and His wish to save us were so very strong. He simply doesn’t want anyone to be lost. Jesus, guarded, protected and didn’t lose anyone except Judas Iscariot whilst He was on Earth (John 17:12) and Jesus doesn’t want to lose anyone now. And yes, that includes you, the person reading this. When we have a love like that on offer, how will we respond to it? Friend, how will you respond to it, now and in 2020? Will you take Jesus’ hand and let His love compel you forward to a new future? Will you receive this love that promises to lead to a far better life than you could ever live on your own? PRAYER: Heavenly Father, please help me as I seek to allow Christ’s love to be my compelling force in everything I do. I know I could never do this on my own, so please help me to be more like Jesus. Lord, starting now I want to live for You who died for me and not for myself. I want to live in such a way that people see You and not me and You get the glory. Help me to use my words and my life to show Your love to others so they will want to know You. Please bless me as I pursue this goal. “King of endless worth, no one could express how much You deserve. Though I'm weak and poor, all I have is Yours, every single breath. I heard of Matt Redman when I was President of Integrity Music. Integrity was a worship label and I got to know a lot of worship artists. Matt is somebody I always wanted to work with but he was signed to another label. A few years ago, a producer by the name of Rob Marvin, who was the producer for Mat Kearney, said, “Sam, I'd really love you to meet a guy named Matt Redman.” I said, “I've been wanting to meet him for years!”
I had some business in southern California and Matt lives in Orange County. So Robert introduced us and Matt and I struck up a friendship. It's probably a three or four year old friendship now. Every time I go to Orange County, I have coffee with him. I have a very high regard for Matt. He is a great father, very humble, and a great worship leader. He's a family man. He lives a Christ centered life.

Matt Redman releases ‘The Praise Is Yours’, the second single from his awaited 2023 live album. The new song carries Redman’s signature highly congregational, selfless, and reverential worship.
Recorded at the historic Mission San Juan Capistrano, CA, ‘The Praise Is Yours’ is steeped in Scripture and seeks to paint a big picture of God in the midst of a culture that pushes away from grandeur and reverence.
The narrative of God’s epic story runs through the song – His creation, the cross, and the life to come – and it is simultaneously saturated by His goodness and glory.
