adelaide and matt had slept in seeing as neither of them had training or a game.

the thing that woke them up from their nap was when addy’s older brothers best friends voice rang through their apartment.

“addy, are you home?” trevor asked.

trevor knew no limits so he walked straight into the younger girls room ready to jump in her bed. however, he was greeted with a sleep adelaide on top of a sleeping matt rempe

the new york native screamed causing addy and matt to jump out of bed.

upon seeing trevor, adelaide moved away from matt and stood on the side. she slipped a sweater over her head and turned to her brothers friend

“z, what the fuck are you doing here?” addy asked. she threw a shirt at her boyfriend, who simply pulled it on without a word.

“what am i doing? i came here to spend time with my honorary sister and im met with the rangers number one fighter. im concerned addy,” trevor rambled.

matt couldn’t help the smile on his face. after all the stories he’d heard about your brothers, trevor seemed like a true friend.

adelaide’s eyes softened as she lunged at the boy for a hug. “i’m fine z. matty makes me happy, like really happy,”

trevor patted the younger girls head and glared at matt. “that’s all i want addy,”

adelaide was having her monthly catch-up with cole as she cooked dinner for her and matt.

however, half-way through cole had to answer some texts on the team group chat leaving the two in silence.

whilst adelaide was cooking, she failed to notice her boyfriends arrival. the tall canadian stood by the doorway, admiring his girlfriend.

“well don’t you look so pretty,” matt complimented

the taller boy stood behind adelaide and pressed kisses on her neck as she plated their food in front of the camera.

when adelaide looked up she was met with cole’s shocked face. matt looked at her girlfriends phone and stepped back a bit.

“shit. is this what z meant? he mentioned you were seeing someone but i thought you’d tell me!” cole ranted.

“and you. you may be taller than me but i will fight you. god damn addy now i owe trevor $100.” cole muttered before ending the call.

adelaide had been having a tough couple of weeks so she took some personal days and flew to toronto without telling anyone.

“adelaide?” willy asked as he saw the girl outside the practice arena.

he noticed her sunken eyes and the frail state her body was in. william immediately rushed to the girl and held her as she broke in his arms.

“come on älskling. you’re coming home with me,” willy asked matthew knies to help him, knowing that you two knew each other.

matthew helped put you in william’s car when your phone started ringing excessively. willy was tempted to ignore it but he didn’t know whether you’d told anyone of your whereabouts so he answered.

“ada!” matt rempe answered on the other side.

“this is william nylander, who are you?” he asked.

matthew urged his teammate to put the phone on speaker and that is what the blonde did.

“i’m matt. is adelaide there?”

“matt who?”

“matt rempe. look i just got back to our apartment and she isn’t here. i’ve called barzy and the martin’s but they haven’t seen her either”, matt rambled.

“she here. she’s in toronto,” willy answered.

“is she okay?” matt’s voice was timid, worried about his girlfriend.

“not really, but i’ll keep her with me for a bit,”

“can you hand her the phone please,”

william turned the phone off speaker and handed it to adelaide.

“matty,” she mumbled.

“hi ada, is willy going to make you feel better?” matt knew how close the two were during their time in toronto. he also knew that other than barzy and tito, willy was the only one who could get her out of a slump.

“willy’s the best. he always looks after me and kniesy’s here too. i miss you,” adelaide smiled at the two leaf players.

“i miss you too princess. get some rest and call me later, i love you,”

“i love you matty,” adelaide ended the call and was about to close her eyes.

“so you share an apartment with matt rempe.” kniesy stated.

adelaide hummed “i share an apartment with my boyfriend,”

brendan and adelaide were in the latters room playing smash or pass whilst they waited for dinner.

brendan was scrolling through a girls list of hockey players on tiktok as they both shouted out their answers.

“eww i can’t believe people find my brothers attractive,” adelaide groaned seeing jack for the sixth time.

brendan laughed and continued scrolling until they landed on matt rempe.

“oh i’ve seen him on fyp, the girls really seem to like him,” brendan added.

adelaide let out a nervous laugh. “pass. he’s a ranger, i’d be hung,”

of course, the knights prospect read between the lines. “okay forget his team, smash or pass?” he asked.

“well pass, he’s not really my type i guess. i don’t know briss,” adelaide answered truthfully.

brendan scoffed. “i think you’d smash. actually i think you already have,” he accused the girl.

adelaide got off her bed and looked to her best friend. “w-w-what, you’re crazy brendan. why would i hook up with a ranger?”

“i don’t know addy but i think he’s the guy you’re soft launching. i mean when i showed you the picture you started blushing. whenever any of the guys brings your boyfriend up you just say he’s tall. also i saw the way he looked at you at the isles vs rangers game i went to,”

brendan gave his best friend a pointed look.

the girl caved fast confessing everything to brendan from the time she met matt to them living together.

“who else knows?” brendan asked.

“well cole, trevor, my team, kniesy, willy, our parents and braden schneider,” addy answered.

“how do cole and trevor know before me!!” brendan exclaimed.

“they caught us,” adelaide replied sheepishly.

mat barzal and the team

the islanders were out having drinks after their season and to celebrate adelaide's new sponsor.

of course, adelaide celebrated too much as she hung onto mat and slurred her words. her teammates found it amusing as she gave them all advice on their love lives.

"mat. i love you, i really do but i swear if you show up to training camp with a shaved head finding a girlfriend would be the least of your worries," she threatened.

the boys laughed as mat dropped the girl off on their goalie ilya sorokin. the girl then started counting in russian and muttering random curse words causing the others who understood to look at the girl in amusement.

"oh no, i have to factory reset her to english," mat groaned as adelaide began rambling on in different languages intertwining with her sentences.

adelaide then laid her head onto ilya's shoulder. "i miss matt," she mumbled in english. the poor goalie then pointed at his two teammates with the same name, making the girl excited.

"eww, that's not matt. i want to go home to matty," she whined.

matt martin carried the younger girl out the bar as she stumbled over her feet, mumbling about 'matt'. barzy was given her bag as he searched for a contact under that name.

just as he was about to hand the phone back to adelaide, she received a call from 'remmy 🐀'.

"ada, it's 2:30. you told me to call if I don't hear from you at this time," matt answered on the other end.

"are you matt?" barzy asked.

matt straightened up and prepared to head out the door. "yeah, I'm matt. umm is ada alright?"

"she's fine. i mean a little wasted but functioning,"

"i'll come pick her up. i've got her location, i should be there in ten minutes,"

barzy put adelaide's phone in her bag and hung it over his shoulder. "addy, matt's on his way," he told the younger girl, holding a bottle of water to her lips.

despite some having families and significant others, they all waited to ensure that adelaide got home safe even if that meant they walked across the city for her.

the sounds of matt's jeep alerted the crowd and the boy pulled up as close as possible before stepping out.

adelaide smiled at the sight of her boyfriend. she pushed away from her teammate and stumbled into matt's arm, the boy catching his girlfriend.

"matty, look this one and this one has the same name as you!" she exclaimed, pointing at the other two.

matt smiled at adelaide's teammates and fixed his grip around her waist. "come on ada, let's get you in the car and then I'll run you a bath when we get home,"

adelaide’s teammates looked at one another and then at how comfortable the girl was. “bye friends! i’m gonna miss you,” she shouted out the car door.

“is that?” one of the guys asked as they watched the couple drive away.

“yup,” barzy replied.

“with ..”

“we all pretend we don’t know until she tells us,” anders lee told the group before they split.

Sparks Fly Pairing:Matt Rempe x Fem roommate!reader Chapter One: Moving In

You and Matt carry the last of his boxes into your apartment and set them down, letting out an exaggerated sigh before turning to face each other.

"Don't ask me how, but we did it." You hold your hand up and Matt high-fives you.

"Thank you for letting me move in."

"You're welcome, but seriously quit thanking me. That's like the fifth time today, Matty."

"I can't help it. We've always talked about living together, but I never thought it would actually happen."

Matt's stomach growls, causing the both of you laugh.

"Hungry much?" you tease.

"Starving," he admits.

"Do you want to go get food from somewhere or eat here? We can unpack after."

"Uh, go somewhere."

On the way to the restaurant, you drive and he's on aux. The both of you screaming lyrics to the songs on your playlist that you guys made when you were fifteen.

At the restaurant, the two of you settle into a booth and the waitress comes over to take your orders.

As you wait for your food, the conversation flows effortlessly. You talk about what you think it's going to be like to finally live together, memories from when you were little and inside jokes.

When the food arrives, you both dig in. Matt's eyes widen as he takes his first bite, and he lets out a satisfied sigh.

"This is exactly what I needed," he says between mouthfuls.

You nod in agreement, feeling the same way. This restaurant is your absolute favorite, especially during exam week .

As you guys finish your food, Matt leans back in his seat, a content smile on his face.

"That hit the spot," he says, patting his stomach.

You smile, "Definitely. This place is my favorite and it was nice to take a break."

Matt nods. "Yeah, it really was."

He drives back to the apartment, and you guys immediately start unpacking, knowing that if you procrastinate any longer, nothing is going to get done.

You're both sitting on his floor surrounded by boxes.

"Look what I found," Matt says, holding up a picture for you to see.

It was from one of the first sleepovers you guys had, and you were in his clothes because he pushed you into the pool.

You laugh, taking the picture from him. "I still never accepted your apology."

"Bullshit! Yes you did. I bought you a slushy after school for a week straight and you accepted it."

You hand the picture back to him and he sets it on his dresser.

"Your mom was so mad."

"I know and it wasn't even on purpose."

"Yes it was! We were telling scary stories and you got upset because Alley, Steph and I were laughing at you for being scared."

"I do not recall."

"Mhm."

You help unpack a couple more boxes and eventually start to get tired. You lay back on his floor and he looks over at you.

"You quittin' on me?"

"No. I just need a break."

He looks at his apple watch and laughs.

"What?"

"It's past your nap time."

"I don't have a nap time."

"Liar. You've always laid down at three when we were younger, and anytime I have called or texted you recently I don't get a response until four."

"Maybe I just like to ignore you.. Ever think of that?"

"If that was the case I don't think you should've let me move in with you. There's no escaping me now."

"Hm. Yeah I didn't think of that actually. Sorry you have to move out."

Matt grabs one of the pillows from his bed and throws it at you.

"Thanks." You tell him, putting the pillow under your head.

"Go take a nap before you get cranky and bite my head off."

"But I feel bad."

"Don't. I'm not worried about getting it all unpacked today. Everything I need for tomorrow and the next few days is already unpacked."

Matt makes his way over to you and you stare up at him, not moving from your spot on the floor.

He grabs your hand and pulls you up.

"I was comfy."

"You'll be even more comfortable in your own room." Matt tells you before lightly pushing you out of his room.

Gabe Perreault had met Will Smith and Ryan Leonard during summer camp for the US National Team Program and the three of them immediately clicked with each other and they all became best friends very fast.

Gabe, Will, and Ryan were all sitting together on the bleachers outside the rink as the U-18 team were practicing and they got out of school earlier to today so they came straight to the rink and are waiting before their practice starts after the U-18 team.

Gabe was watching the practice but his eyes kept flickering back to number 8, something about that player was drawing Gabe in and his eyes couldn’t stay off the player.

Gabe watched the the player skate effortlessly down the ice and quickly passed sharply to number 19, who had the puck now and easily spun around the defenseman and passed it right back to number 8 and making number 8 slap shot it right into the back of the net.

Gabe kept his eyes trained on number 8 watching as he skated to the bench with the rest of the team and taking his helmet off off and running a hand through his sweaty hair, Gabe felt his breath catch as he looked at him.

“What do you think Gabe-o?” Ryan questioned his best friend, Ryan and Will were talking about something and looking over Ryan’s phone.

Ryan furrowed his eyebrows when he didn’t answer and looked up seeing a new look on Gabe’s face, it was like he was day dreaming and kinda like heart eyes, “Who are you looking at?” Ryan clapped a hand onto Gabe’s shoulder making him spin around quickly.

“No one.” Gabe quickly denied feeling his cheeks heat up as he knew the boys would chirp him for thinking the player is really cute and he doesn’t even know the players name.

Gabe quickly shook his head and avoided the look coming from Ryan’s looked over Ryan’s phone and answered Ryan’s question.

A few minutes later Gabe heard a voice call out and looked up and froze.

“Ry.” Asher called as Cutter, Rutger and Asher walked out of the locker room and towards the bleachers.

“Ashy.” Ryan looked up and nodded at his brother, Asher nodded back to his little brother.

“Do you need a ride?” Asher questioned his younger brother, not seeing the awestruck look coming from Gabe towards him but Cutter and Rutger did and they shared a look.

“No, Smity’s mom is coming and she’s gonna take us home.” Ryan told his older brother and then his eyes lite up in realization, “You haven’t met Gabe-o yet, Gabe this is my older brother Asher.” Ryan proudly introduced not seeing how Gabe’s eyes widen in shock.

Gabe knew that Ryan has an older brother but he didn’t realize he was hot. Like really hot.

“Hey.” Asher gave the boy a nod looking extremely disinterested.

“Hi.” Gabe stumbled over his words feeling his cheeks burning hearing Will snicker softly and Ryan turned around giving Gabe a suspicious look before shaking it off and looking back at his brother.

“Alright i’ll see you later then.” Asher nodded and ruffled his younger brothers hair as he walked by, he stopped by Will and gently ruffled his hair too, “Hi Sunny.” Asher mumbled to the boy who’s reluctant became another member of his family.

“Hi Ash.” Will beamed happily at Asher more than willing to let him ruffle his hair. Will has thought of Asher as an older brother since he met him.

“What was that.” Ryan demanded the second his older brother and his friends were gone, he glared suspiciously at his best friend and line mate.

Will smirked looking amused as he had figured out why Gabe was acting the way he was.

“Yo-You didn’t say your brother is hot.” Gabe stuttered as he whispered shouted at Ryan, Will couldn’t help but burst out laughing at the two.

“Ew!” Ryan looked absolutely disgusted, he quickly realized who Gabe was staring at during the practice, “Dude gross.” Ryan wrinkled his nose looking extremely grossed out.

“He is!” Gabe sheepishly protested, he held his hands up in surrender. Gabe knew his cheeks were definitely bright red. Will just snickered and shook his head.

“I don’t want to know that!” Ryan quickly shot back still looking disgusted and a grimace stuck on his face, “Ew that’s just gross, don’t tell me you think my brother’s hot.” Ryan gaged shaking his head dramatically.

“You saw it too?” Rutger chuckled as they walked away and through the arena out to the parking lot, He looked to Cutter in question.

“Oh i saw it.” Cuttee nodded in reply, he was smirking looking very amused.

“Saw what?” Asher questioned his two best friends as they all got into his car, and he turned his car and started to pull out the parking lot.

“Ry’s friend got a crush on you.” Cutter let out a small breathy chuckle. He was finding this whole thing amusing and had a feeling it was going to be for a while.

“The curly haired one, Gabe.” Rutger piped up from the backseat leaning forward in between the two front seats.

“Ok.” Asher nonchalantly answered taping his fingers on the steering wheel as he drove them.

“Do you think he is cute?” Rutger turned his head looking at Asher intently wanting to know, he has been trying for years to set Asher up with anyone.

“He’s young.” Asher ignored Rutger’s question. Asher was not going to start thinking about his little brother’s friend, he was not going down that rabbit hole today.

“Only a year younger, that’s nothing.” Rutger scoffed incredulously looking towards his best friend and line mate, “Now answer the question Lenny.”

“No.” Asher answered not looking at the two. He ran his tongue over his bottom lip.

Rutger and Cutter shared a look being able to tell their best friend was lying but decided to drop the topic, for now.

Matt decided to start a prank war with you. He has pranked you a total of three times and you still have yet to get him back.

You try to think of multiple ways to get him back but can't think of anything so you resort to trying to find something on tiktok.

After a little searching you come across a tiktok of a girl pranking her boy bestfriend by saying that her tampon is stuck and decide that's probably the best one.

He goes to practice and you spend the time that he's gone trying to figure out how you are going to execute the prank.

You hear Matt unlocking the front door and bolt to the bathroom, ready to get revenge.

"I'm back!?" He says, his voice carrying through the apartment.

You hear him go into his room and wait a couple seconds before yelling for him. "Matty!?"

"What?!" He yells back.

"Come here a second!"

He goes to go to your room but stops when he notices you standing in the bathroom doorway. "The guys want to know if you want to go out with us tonight."

"Maybe. I need your help." You tell him, purposely standing weird.

"With what? Why are you standing like that?" Matt asks.

"So um. I know this is going to be awkward and I don't even want to be telling you this but I have no other choice to. My tampon is stuck."

"Where?"

"My vag, dumbass. Where else. The string broke and I can't get it, so I need you to pull it out."

Matt stares at you, blinking a few times before saying, "Y-You want me to pull it out?"

"Yes. I-"

"I can call somEOne." His voice cracks and it takes everything in you not to laugh. "I can call Alley. Let me get my pho-"

"Matt, Alley is in Calgary. She isn't going to be any help." You tell him.

"Well I don't know what you want me to do. Becausewhatthefuckidon'tusethem. I don't use tampons. l don't know. I mean, I'm stressed out."

"You're stressed out? You aren't the one with a tampon stuck in your vagina, Matthew."

Matt runs his hands over his face. "Can't I just take you to the hospital or something?"

"No. Do you know how embarrassing it would be to have to go to the hospital for this. It'll be simple. What's gonna happen is I'm going to sit down and put my legs up and you have to dig for it. If we don't get it out I could literally get TSS and die."

"I'm sorry. I don't want you to die but I can't. I'm not a medical professional and shouldn't be digging in your cooch."

"If you were my bestfriend you would-"

"What am I going to do!? I'm not going to go knuckle deep and fish out a tampon. Just let me take you to the damn ER and they can use the tools to get it out." He yells, getting more and more nervous by the second.

"If you were my bestfriend you would help me. I'll put my legs up like I'm giving birth and you just got to reach in there and pull it out. Do you have a pair of gloves?"

"A pair of fucking gloves? Why would I have a pair of gloves, y/n!?" Matt sighs and runs his hand through his hair. "Sit down." He tells you.

You burst out laughing and he stares at you confused.

"Why are you laughing, it isn't funny."

"Remember what happened Sunday, Wednesday and Friday?" You ask him.

He thinks for a second before flipping you off and walking away. "Go fuck yourself."

Asher nodded as he blocked another punch of Gabe’s. They have had quite a few lessons since they started a few weeks ago and Gabe has gotten a lot better at fighting.

“Alright that’s good for today.” Asher told Gabe, as he heard Gabe’s stomach rumbling.

“Have you eaten?” Asher raised an eye brow hearing all the rumbling, Gabe blushed slightly but shook his head no, “Come on.” Asher gestured for Gabe to follow him.

They were practicing in the gym today instead of on the ice so Gabe followed Asher out of the gym and down the hallway and to the outside.

Asher gestured for Gabe to get into the passenger side, Gabe hesitated for a second and Asher rolled his eyes and opened the door for Gabe.

Gabe flushed but gave him a smile as he got into the car. Asher shut the door and walked around hopping into the driver seat and starting the car.

Asher picked up the aux cord and held it out to Gabe and he felt his heart squeeze slighty at Gabe’s beaming smile. Asher shook his head and ignored how happy Gabe looked as he pulled his phone and started playing his music.

Gabe had no idea where Asher was taking them but he honestly did not care because Asher was spending more time with him.

Asher pulled into the parking spot in front of the chipotle on campus and Gabe perked up seeing the food place.

They both hopped out of the car and walked up to the front door, Asher grabbed the door and opened it letting Gabe walk in first before following him.

Gabe ordered his food and Asher quickly did the same and when Gabe went to pay for his food Asher quickly pushed his hands away and tapped his card instead ignoring the look from Gabe.

“Thank you.” Gabe mumbled softly to Asher getting a nod in return.

Gabe picked a small booth away from a lot of the other tables and they sat down across from each other.

Gabe started talking about something that happened in his french class earlier that day as they started eating, “And then she.” Gabe cut himself off as he realized he’s been yapping the whole time they have been eating, “Sorry.” Gabe grimaced having been told he talks a lot and he knows Asher doesn’t like a lot of talking.

“Keep going.” Asher grumbled back, if he was annoyed by Gabe talking he would have said something but for some odd reason Gabe didn’t annoy him that much with all his talking.

“Are you sure?” Gabe bit his lip looking worried and Asher just gave him a look making Gabe nod and continuing his story.

Asher was alreadly finished with his bowl but he still sat there listening to the rest of Gabe’s story’s.

Asher snickered slightly at a part of Gabe’s story and didn’t see how Gabe’s eye slight up at the sound of Asher’s snicker and had a proud smile.
