Ok, MASH friends, I watched Goodbye, Farewell and Amen today for the first time ever.

Is it me, or was BJ a bit of a dick to Hawkeye all the way through until the very end? Perhaps I've read too much fanfic of those two but they barely spoke! He visited Hawk for like, ONE MINUTE, never asked how he was,didn't tell him he was leaving, and just yammered on about Erin the whole time. Was he not in the bus? Was nobody else traumatised by the bus?! Nobody else seems bothered by it, they're just embarrassed by Hawkeye's breakdown.

My favourite line was when BJ apologised for not leaving a note, and Hawk said "I didn't even realise you weren't here, I thought you were in the bathroom". YES! GO HAWKEYE! Beej could have written something in one minute,or just waited a day or so and done a proper goodbye with all his friends.

I dunno, I was kind of disappointed in it as a finale.

One of my stepdads many crimes (aside from the like emotional abuse but that’s a different story) is that he spoiled the twist in the finale of m*a*s*h* about the chicken for me!

I was like watching the show and was young and he just started telling me the ending!

I don’t know if I ever told this story on here but apparently when my mom was back in college one of her final exams was scheduled for the evening of the mash finale and a bunch of students complained and threw a fit until finally the professor was like “show of hands: how many of you are planning on skipping my exam to go watch mash?” And like a good 80% raised their hands and the prof was like “…and what if that meant you failed the entire course?” And apparently only a few students put their hands down so the guy had to reschedule the exam. Moral of the story: there’s power in numbers and also mash was and forever will be more important than statistical analysis

When I was pitching this book, I was asked a question: What do you want the readers to take away from this? Simple as it sounds, it's empathy. I'd like us to allow our female characters the same amount of empathy and grace that we allow all other characters. With all the talk around representation, we have not yet allowed our fictional women much leeway to be as messy, flawed, or downright evil as fictional men without making it into a headline or a joke."

look all i'm saying is if you give mash a chance with a very grounded sense of the time it was airing in and the pressures it was rebelling against and the brand-new trends it was setting, there will be a point, maybe a few episodes in or maybe a few seasons in, where you suddenly go "okay, yeah, i see why this show became such a popcultural juggernaut that the finale is STILL TO THIS DAY the most-watched tv show episode ever"
