Haiii! I realize I probably put my revamped Marsh Mystic/Double Agent Marcy AU infodoc in a bit of a hard-to-reach place, so I decided to make an outline post for it!

Under the cut; this is a l o n g post.

Background:

While Marcy is in the pickle jar, King Andrias adds axolotl DNA and stem cells into her genes, speeding up the healing of her wounds and giving her some axolotl features, like gills, webbed hands and a tail. He also uses technology from the Core to edit Marcy’s memories, so their recollection of Andrias’s betrayal is fuzzy, and they don’t remember being killed, just that something terrible happened to them. They’re smart enough, however, to put two and two together, connecting the scar to the memory of betrayal.

Intending to use Marcy as a scout to scope out potential worlds to conquer, he sends them (and Joe Sparrow) to the Boiling Isles, using the eye on their armor as a communication device to contact them. Once Marcy discovers what the eye is for, however, she destroys it.

She and Joe enter the Isles 6 weeks before the events of Agony Of A Witch. The first 2 weeks, she mostly hangs back, picking up on some magic (a bit of beastkeeping and a few potion tricks) and jotting down observations and info in her journal. At the end of the first week, Marcy discovers an undersized pond of young gadrolotls (who sorta imprint on her), and spends the two and a half weeks alternating between learning more about magic and nurturing the little guys the best she can - as well as enlarging the pond to make it more hospitable. At some point, she runs into a baby Mire Serpent and takes it to the pond. Marcy spends the rest of the time before the events of Young Blood, Old Souls finding out all they can about these two species.

Coven scouts happen upon Marcy during the second week, and they report the sighting to Belos, who tells them to continue their observations and keep him updated. After the events of YBOS, he tells them to bring her to him. Upon being brought before Belos - and his discovery that they’re a human - he ends up slotting Marcy into the Emperor’s Coven, intrigued by them and wanting to keep a fellow human close. He tells them about the Owl Crew, warning them to keep an eye out for the rebels should they cross paths.

Considering what happened the last time Marcy served a tyrant, she does not trust Belos as far as she can throw him, and really has no intention of helping him. She hides the fact that she’s human from the coven heads, and really only talks to them when she needs to. The only one she feels remotely close to is Raine, especially upon accidentally discovering that they’re a double agent. After some deliberation, she privately confides in them her fears and suspicions about Belos, and it doesn’t take long for them to become a secret ally.

Episode Timeline

Separate Tides: Marcy is sent on the ship with Hunter for backup, and Eda, Luz and King meet the two of them together. She’s surprised to see another human (but doesn’t let on around Hunter), and curious towards King. Luz notes how - in addition to being oddly friendly - hesitant, and yet quiet and compliant, Marcy seems in comparison to Hunter, as if they don’t want to do this quite as much as he does but don’t dare to make it obvious.

Escaping Expulsion: Marcy secretly attends the Abomatron presentation, because… I mean, we already know this is something she wouldn’t miss for the world. She sees the whole action scene with Luz and Amity, and is thoroughly captivated by that.

Echoes of the Past: Raine takes Marcy to meet the BATTs, and while they’re a little hesitant at first, they do end up warming up to her.

Hunting Palismen: Luz expresses a bit of curiosity about Marcy while talking with Hunter. He explains how they just sorta. showed up one day, and don’t seem all that enthusiastic about serving Belos.

Post-Eda’s Requiem: When they get the chance, Raine introduces Marcy to Darius and Eberwolf, and she becomes part of Team RED.

Eclipse Lake: Marcy is sent along with Hunter to keep an eye on him. Again, she’s very openly friendly towards the present Owl Crew, though also a little more confident, and excited to be at such a place as Eclipse Lake. She’s also intrigued by Eda’s harpy form and King’s new power, of course, and has many questions. Out of Hunter’s earshot, they give a hint or two that they’re human, such as recognizing Amity’s Tamagotchi. In the pandemonium, she takes a few moments to gawk and fangirl at Eda’s harpy form in action, and when Kikimora is defeated, they slip away before their covenmates can notice them.

Labyrinth Runners: Marcy briefly helps Hunter and Gus during the big illusion, by tackling the Coven scouts with her so the two can get away.

O Titan Where Art Thou: Marcy and Luz are properly acquainted, and get along like a charm.

Prior to Clouds on the Horizon: Marcy is properly acquainted with Willow and Gus, and finally gets to properly interact with Hunter outside of their former places in the coven. She shows them and Luz her alliance of gadrolotls, along with the Mire Serpent she named Salamence - all of whom are fully grown or close.

Clouds on the Horizon: Marcy accompanies the 4 on their trip to rescue Amity and stop Odalia. After the fact, she follows their airship on Joe, and tells Salamence and 8 of the gadrolotls to follow along just in case.

King’s Tide: The Hexsquad are accompanied by Marcy, Joe Sparrow and the salamanders that had followed them - the latter of which she sends back to the water for their safety once everyone’s done fighting through the Coven scouts. Marcy gets blasted through the portal with Luz and the others at the end, and out of everyone, they’re… not thrilled to be back in the human realm.

For anyone who’d like to know about the two species I’ve inserted into the BI for the Marsh Mystic AU:

Gadrolotls

These are an aquatic species that live in large lakes and ponds, in groups of 5-15, favoring shaded areas that don’t let a lot of sunlight through. They are one of the rarer and more reclusive species in the Boiling Isles.

Contrasting with their cute faces, their massive mouths each have 2 rows of razor-sharp teeth, the second row lining a second set of jaws inside their main jaws, much like an eel.

Each gadrolotl has bioluminescent, feathery protrusions on their gills, necks and tails. Each set of quills glows a different color, allowing different members of a group to identify each other at night or in a darker setting.

Though they’re mostly aquatic, their gills allow them to breathe both water and air (because magic - I mean, it’s the Boiling Isles, after all). In addition, they have 4 flexible, almost spider-like legs that allow them to move efficiently on land - in the water, they press these legs flat against their bodies for a more streamlined shape. They also have two other limbs, those being short but powerful grabbing arms with sharp claws.

These guys are pack hunters, and relentlessly vicious when they acquire a target. When a hunt begins, they stealthily surround their prey, only exposing their quills to disorient the target with light. After this, they charge, using their teeth to hold and tear flesh.

Mire Serpents

Based on olms. These creatures are related to gadrolotls, have many of the same attributes and live in the same kinds of habitats, but are solitary and much larger - and rarer. They’re like a minor legend in some parts of the Isles.

Their bodies are powerful, and instead of bioluminescent feathery bits, their protrustions are longer, sharper and more quill-like (except for on their gills; those remain feathery). When hunting, a Mire Serpent strikes with its teeth, then follows that up by wrapping around its prey, digging the quills into the victim and holding it in place so it can tear into it with quick, powerful bites.

Since Mire Serpents are blind, they have electro-receptors along their snouts, similar to certain species of sharks.

Despite their differences, gadrolots and Mire Serpents are able to coexist without much issue. In fact, there have been instances where a Mire Serpent would stick around a smaller group of gadrolotls to protect them from predators that the group wouldn’t have been able to fend off on their own.

Random MM/DAM AU fact: Marcy’s hair still grew from her time in the pickle jar, but she fluffed it out later on. They certainly prefer this to having it be limp and floppy from pickle juice - the drawback, though, is that it now gets in their face and covers their eyes more often than she’d like.

So, how much of the Marsh Mystic AU has changed? I know the stuff with Hunter's obvious, but what about Marcy's interaction with Darius and Eberwolf in light of them being revealed to be against Belos like Raine is? Has the stuff with Andrias and the Core in season 3B of Amphibia affected how things work? Does she go back to Earth with Luz in King's Tide and if so, does she try to call Anne? What does her Mystic Marcy outfit look like?

I originally wrote this AU back when ToH was still on its S2 mid-season hiatus, so on top of the Hunter changes, there’s a lot of new stuff I’ve gotta take into account when re-working and polishing this AU.

I’d think that, without a host, the Core would be defeated more easily, so… there’s that.

Yes to both parts of the second-to-last question.

I haven’t drawn the MM outfit yet, but I’ve planned it to be kinda similar to the GG outfit - just more axolotl-themed, with a green, yellow and silver palette.

Kalarmarcy: Very self-indulgent take on S3 that focuses on Sasha and Marcy, the rebellion against Andrias, and the Calamity powers. Working on a doc for this one.

Marsh Mystic/Double Agent Marcy: Andrias adds axolotl DNA to Marcy and sends her (and Joe Sparrow) to the Boiling Isles with the intent of using them as a scout/test dummy to scope it out for conquering - which, of course, doesn’t go as he wanted. She’s installed into the EC head position after YBOS and takes Hunter’s place in the ToH storyline. Eco-Vigilance: Still veeery much in the experimental/idea phase. Spawned from me listening to Stand For Everfree while having the Marcy/Newtopia concept I keep talking about on the brain. The basic idea is that Marcy suspects Andrias’s colonizer-y ways before his betrayal, and is able to avoid being stabbed, after which she goes into hiding and comes across a source of nature magic derived from the Calamity powers (I like to imagine the magic from the gems causing obscure natural anomalies throughout Amphibia). One way or another, the magic ends up inhabiting her. She experiments with it for a while before finding out the damage Andrias has done to Amphibia, at which point things… kinda go downhill. She’s devastated and angry, and filled with a need to prevent the king from killing anything else, whiiich kinda causes her magic to go haywire. She does learn to control it eventually, though, and joins Sasha’s rebellion against King Punchable.

An Eye For Seven Eyes: Also a heavy WIP. Marcy’s spirit gets separated from her body when possessed by the Core. After that, she just kinda follows Malga around, keeping an eye on them (and occasionally warning them about the limitations of her body - to which they never listen, mainly for I have waited over a millennium for a body and I am going to make the most of it reasons). A while later (after reuniting with Sasha and explaining everything to her) she takes advantage of being a ghost and possesses the Core’s former body. Shenanigans ensue.

I HAVE QUESTIONS ABT THE DOUBLE AGENT MARCY AU!!!!!

Does Andrias not keep in touch with her??? How long is Marcy supposed to be in the Boiling Isles???? Why does Belos just invite and accept her into his ranks???? Does he know she is human??? If not, what does he think she is??? If he does, why is he so chill with that and not figuring out how she got there???? Why is the Owl crew so trusting??? Like there is doubt but they accept her kind of fast. Will Marcy be telling them about Amphibia??? Why she was sent there??? The coming invasion??? What happened to her??? What she did??? If she does, how do they take it??? If she doesn’t, how do they learn all that??? How do they take it???

O.O Ogosh, this caught me off guard - I’m really glad you’re interested in these AUs! These are all really good questions, and I’ll definitely keep these in mind when it comes to refining this story. Let’s see here…

1. My original thought is that Andrias does implement some sort of way to contact her and keep them under his thumb, but it ends up getting destroyed in some way.

2. She gets there a few weeks before the events of Agony Of A Witch, and from that point, it follows the same timeframe as the original episodes do.

3. I had an idea that something went wrong with the whole Grimwalker project, so Belos needs to find a new coven head on short notice. His coven have been keeping a close eye on Marcy, noting that, though she seems fairly new to the Isles, she also seems to have a lot of potential. This catches Belos’s interest, figuring that, since Marcy’s new here, they won’t be to hard to sway toward his point of view.

4. Marcy tries to keep her ears hidden as much as possible, and once they get their Marsh Mystic outfit, she ties their hood securely over her ears. Belos is led to believe that she’s some sort of demon or creature not from the Isles.

5. That’s a good question! I originally figured Luz would be more sympathetic (and a lot more curious) towards Marcy after finding out that they’re human like her. I also think that, after the events of Eclipse Lake, once Amity realizes that one of the core problems is that Marcy doesn’t believe they can get away from Belos (added to the people-pleasing student ideal/complex they have), getting in the way of their actual intentions, she’d communicate this in some way to Eda, King and Luz - as well as the fact that she outright offered to let Amity keep as much Titan’s blood as she needed. I figure this would make them more willing to help Marcy out. I’m definitely gonna explore this arc more that you’ve brought it to my attention. 👍

6. I wanted to explore Marcy’s potentially doubling down on not wanting to dwell on or talk about her past, due to their experience with opening up about those elements of her life - so, even when they do reveal things about her past, it takes a while to get to that point, and they have a tendency towards vagueing. She ends up telling Luz that she was in a dimension different from the demon realm at some point, but only to give context about Joe and their axolotl features.

7. Andrias stabs her and puts her in a tank so he can add axolotl features to them and do a little strategic memory tweaking. He wants to use her as a scout/test dummy of sorts, to scope out the other worlds he takes in conquering - a chunk of this AU’s premise is admittedly just my crossover brain taking the “I will not just rule this world, but all worlds” line and running with it. The axolotl DNA is for the stem cells, to heal Marcy’s physical wounds, and give them other benefits such as gills - all to make her more resilient and effective at what he intends to use her for.
