Rei x Jadeite Week - day 1: Pride

For this first prompt I give you art and a headcanon to go with it!

So I think that in the Silver Millennium, Jadeite had a very hard time trying and getting closer to Mars. Even in the midst of all the plans and efforts to strengthen the bond between the Moon and the Earth, while the Moon people and the senshi were generally welcoming of the Earth people and doing their best to promote good relations between the two Kingdoms, Mars would mantain an unfriendly and detached attitude towards them. She would refuse to interact with them in any way except for the bare minimum courtesy, even in formal circumstances—she wouldn't accept a dance at a party, she wouldn't make small talk during meetings etc. Just to remind them that the favour and friendship that was being extended to them weren't to be taken for granted. So Jadeite had to think about something less conventional to approach her. Lucky for him he's the Knight of Perseverance (and bad ideas) so he wasn't going to give up easily! :D

She was the Princess of Mars, so her domain was battle and war. He thus started to boast about his exceptional and unmatched fighting techniques whenever she was close by. Making sure to be extra pompous about it. Being the prideful warrior that she was, of course she took the bait. She had to teach this arrogant man from Earth a lesson. So she challenges him to show her his supposedly amazing fighting prowess, planning to thoroughly humiliate him and put him back in his place. They start sparring occasionally, and he finds out that she is in fact much more inclined to communication and to physical proximity in a fighting context. She is not completely unapproachable anymore. So he obviously uses these opportunities to try to impress her (which mostly fails—he's the one more and more impressed) but most of all to at least start a conversation (even if it's mostly snarky little banters at first) and of course to be a little flirty now and then.✨

I was planning to make a second piece from a different perspective so that the pose and dynamics of the scene would be clearer but couldn't make it. I was never fully happy with it and I didn't want to waste any more time on it and decided to just post this and be done with it. ;_; I'll just link the music video I used for reference so you can check it out to have a better idea (the fighting sequence is at around 2:40)!

Everyone agrees that resurrected-Jed would just live at Rei's shrine, right?

My canon-diverging fantasy is where the Shitennou are restored their civilian lives and identities by the Silver Crystal. Jed shows up at Hikawa, with the backstory of wanting to be an apprentice and Rei is kind of sus about it, but can't find anything weird. Not either by divination or the computer database (in case it's just regular fraud, and not some evil magic stuff).

Maybe someday I can kick myself to write or draw how this works in more detail.

There's this pair of "gossiping komainu" sitting in a corner at the real-life Hikawa Shrine in Tokyo, I thought it's really funny

Also random, but it's kind of funny that the IRL Hikawa 氷川 is written with "ice" 氷. In Sailor Moon the "Hi" is changed to fire 火 instead. Of all things it had to be "ice", the almost direct opposite to fire.

Some Mars/Jadeite headcanons for an AU that I may one day write. These mix the manga and the 90s anime.

Rei knew he was familiar when he started working at the temple and just couldn't accept it when he was revealed to be working for Beryl. So she consulted the fire and realized the truth about him.

So we're getting rid of that sexist line from the anime because it honestly makes no sense because he works for a Queen and because I say so.

But during that airport battle, Rei pleads with him to remember their past. It takes him getting run over by a plane to come to his senses.

After being purified he starts working at the temple once again.

In the past, Mars fell in love with him after bonding over shared annoyances over their princess and prince. Rei and Jadeite were very stressed that the prince and princess were always sneaking off to see each other. Jadeite also always gave her the space she needed. The two were able to have separate lives outside each other.

This is the same in the present. They give each other their space. The two would be very happy in a long distance relationship if that was ever needed and are happy living in the temple together.

They were very slow to get intimate with each other. Jadeite had trauma from being under Beryl's spell and also needed time to adjust to the 20th century and Rei was not ready for a romantic relationship. They had a more than friends but less than lovers thing for a long time and, despite being the first two reunited, were probably the last to become romantic again.

Besides Rei, the Guardian Jadeite gets along best with is Usagi. Usagi was always visiting him at the temple after he was purified. Rei was a little jealous because they seemed to get along so well. But Usagi was only doing it because she wanted to help him and she was totally into his and Rei's romance.

Usagi and Jadeite go on undercover missions together. Usagi has her disguise pen and well, when Jadeite was working for Beryl he always seemed to have a different job so we're going to continue that. Whatever they need a disguise for, Jadeite always happens to have an outfit for it. Rei originally asked him to go with Usagi on a mission because she didn't want her going alone and soon it became their thing.

The Shitennou Rei gets along best with besides Jadeite is Kunzite. He's (usually) one of the more serious of the group.

Jadeite makes amazing tea. If the girls are meeting at the temple, Jadeite has tea ready. If Rei and Koan are hanging out, he's got tea for them. He eventually, after trying several, to settle on a career of being a tea shop owner.

By their own choice, Jadeite and Rei do not have any biological children, but they do adopt Vesta and raise her.

RxJ Week Day 5: Mirror

@senshixshitennouweeks these will be super late and out of order. But hopefully, they'll be enjoyable

Memories of what he'd done were bile in his stomach, rising up through his chest to come out.

No matter how many good deeds he did or how long it was, some innocuous incident or phrase could remind him of how fallible he was.

And yet, it didn't feel like that was him.

In the dead of night, when memories of strangling the enchanting Mars visited him, it felt more like he was dreaming of being a character in a movie, not the man he was now.

In fact, it was how he got into this situation. Sitting up in bed while his wife slept.

"Why are yo awake?"

Well, she was asleep.

"No reason," he said.

A slim hand took his and lifted it to be kissed by a pair of luscious lips.

"Dreams again?"

He nodded and he knew she'd know he did. Rei had a sixth sense after all.

"I remember meeting you in my second life," he said, "I remember hearing the bus hydraulics as it stopped, seeing you unconscious on the floor..."

He pauses.

"But it's like a dream in a dream. Like..."

"Like a funhouse mirror?"

She's right of course, but he turns to look at her in the dim light, wondering what she knew about this.

"Before you returned to us, during the Dead Moon Circus... I had an encounter in a hall of mirrors. It looked like a version of me, but younger... brattier."

"She sounds intolerable," Jadeite said.

"Oh, she was," Rei replied, "she said that what I really wanted was to be taken care of by a man for the rest of my life."

Her arms snaked around his chest.

"But I knew it was a lie. And those dreams, they're your own funhouse mirror."

She presses a kiss to his temple.

"And funhouse mirrors only show distortions of what is. So go back to sleep. You've got a full day tomorrow."

He does. Rei works him to the bone some days. She can be impatient and exacting, especially during the shrine's busiest seasons.

But her words, the surety in them, they put his mind at ease. Jadeite leans back, her arms still around him and thinks instead to newer memories.

Of getting his job at Hikawa shrine, of reconnecting with Endymion and the others...

The funhouse mirror is still there, in his mind, but it's far off and overtaken by images of hair the color of crow's wings and eyes like jewels.

"They're watching you, you know?"

"Who?" Lord Jadeite stopped midway with a canapé lifted to his mouth. Blue eyes darted covertly around the ball room, his elaborate masquerade mask doing little to diminish the bright color, or the mischief shining in them. He popped the bite into his mouth. "The guards?"

"No, the courtiers; the tittering ladies." She lifted a hand to her mouth and batted her lashes demurely at him. Her own mask was little more than a lace covering that matched her ruby dress. There was no point in hiding behind something too ostentatious, everyone knew the Princess of Mars when they saw her.

"Should I be flattered or worried?" he asked lightly, reaching past her to snag a glass of sparkling Jovian wine from a passing tray. He leaned in distractingly close, enough for her to feel the warmth radiating off him and smell the clean scent of his cologne. He drew back slowly with the glass in hand, and took a slow sip.

"Flattered, for sure. The ladies of Queen Selenty's court are notoriously hard to please. It's near impossible to catch their fancy."

"Hm," he hummed thoughtfully. "I suppose that goes double for the princesses of the court then?"

"Without doubt." She gave him a coquettish smile. "The princesses are renowned for their discerning eye and stringent tastes. Truly, it would take someone quite remarkable to gain their attention."

"Well, I shall let you know if I find anyone worthy enough to garner their favor." He drained his glass and sat it aside. "In the meantime perhaps I should go entertain the tittering young ladies who seem so enamored? A dance or two should appease them, don't you think?"

He moved in close once again, crowding her space as he bent his head close to her ear. "Unless I might be otherwise engaged?"

"I can't imagine why you would be?" was her flippant reply. She attempted to affect a relaxed air she didn't quite possess at the moment.

"In that case, off I go." He straightened up and winked at her, then he turned, seemingly intent on leaving her alone. It appeared she was going to lose the game this time.

"Oh, damn you, anyway." She reached out to grab his hand, giving a firm yank to bring him back close to her.

She positioned herself against him, heedless of the layers and frills of her dress, and reached up with her free hand to cup his jaw. Rocking onto her tiptoes she kissed him soundly.

He responded immediately, arms moving to circle her slim waist and pull her impossibly closer. His lips slanted over her and stole her breath away.

When they eventually separated to regain their breath, they remained close enough for her to feel his heart beating against her breastbone. He bent his head and rested his forehead against hers, his panting breathes fanning across her mouth.

"I guess this means I'm otherwise indisposed for the evening?"

"I would say so."

He nodded gently, his bangs tickling against her forehead with the movement. "Good."

She grinned. "Good," she said before pulling him in for another kiss.

Rei and Jadeite. Yes, this was inspired by Romeo and Juliet... I always loved to imagine that between the Silver Millennium and the present they probably had many other reincarnations where their love was always forbidden and destined to end badly for one reason or another. (Also, they're both R & J after all right??)

Colored version is coming but it's gonna take a while! 💪

Let’s review some of the Headcannons I’ve used with my Senshi/Shitensou series or elements I hope to use in the future: 

Bedroom/house/living quarters headcanon

Crystal Tokyo happened with everyone living in separate wings of the palace. 

Beforehand, Mamoru and Usagi bought a home, preparing for Chibi-Usa even if they didn’t become King and Queen. 

Jadeite worked at the Hikawa shrine attempting to show Rei he has changed. 

Nephrite and Makoto lived together saving for her to buy her bakery. 

Ami continued to live at the apartment she shared with her mom, eventually moving in with Zoisite when they got married. 

Minako, although she briefly shared an apartment with Usagi, usually spent most of her time at Kunzite’s place. 

Luna does her best to stay with Usagi and Mamoru by having them work out a hand gesture system to the cat now she should make herself scarce. 

Sex headcanon

Mars & Jadeite: Rei and Jadeite often appear to be in a loveless marriage by people who don’t know them. This is because they share so much passion for each other, it takes very little physical affection for them to end up in bed together. (I used this in Captured Spy)

Jupiter & Nephrite: As I said in @sailorheadcanons post: Makoto and Nephrite enjoy being very aggressive during their love making usually resulting in collateral damage. They have destroyed 8 beds, numerous lamps and vases, and a poor roomba that was in the wrong place at the wrong time. (really need to use this one in the future)

Mercury & Zoisite: Despite when many think, Ami is one of the first to become physical when she reunites with her Shitensou lover. This happens in many reincarnations as Ami finds it difficult to articulate her feelings for her beloved. (Kinda used this in The Healing Properties of Mercury). 

Venus & Kunzite: Are switches who work to explore each other’s fetishes extensively. Kunzite especially is down to try anything as he has a slight worry Minako would find someone else if he refused. Minako is well aware this is the one area of his life Kunzite lacks confidence and does her best to be reassuring he’s all she needs. (I haven’t explored this as much as I wanted but I have so many Kunzite/Minako series right now I won’t explore it for a while). 

Endymion and Serenity: I explore this extensively in my “Royal Affairs” series.  

Luna and Artemis: Luna is actually well aware of how she treats Artemis and flirts with handsome men like Yaten intentionally. Once she found out how animalistic he got when he was jealous, Luna couldn’t help herself. (This was actually going to the sixth entry in the “After the Cauldron” series but when I got a low reception to that Andrea Hui)

Family headcanon

The Sailor Amazons are reborn as the children of the Senshi and Shitensou, giving them the opportunity to come from loving families as they grow up to eventually be Chibi-Usa’s guardians. The second batch of children are Kousagi and the girls shown in Sailor Moon: Parallel Moon (who I renamed as just calling them Junior after their mothers seemed lame).

Most Hits: Evidently, my magnum opus, The Only One (Enjonine, Les Mis) WHICH I AM STILL WORKING ON, I SWEAR! I actually worked on it quite recently, so if anyone is still interested, I promise I will finish it!

Most Kudos: Surprisingly, Max's Annual Uncanny Hootenanny (Hellcheer, Stranger Things) which is a more recent thing I made. Very proud of it, glad people enjoyed it.

Most Comments: We have a tie between Max's Annual Uncanny Hootenanny and Munson's Not Your Mummy's Creepy Crawly Costume Party (both Hellcheer, Stranger Things).

Most Bookmarks: This is actually a shocker, but it's Sway My Way (Love is like a good pair of underwear) (NeuYako, Majin Tantei Nougami Neuro). This was just a random smutfic I wrote for this manga I was into waaaay back in the day.

Most Words: Unsurprisingly, it's The Only One again, sitting at about 64k. The next chapter is already at over 12k, and there's still quite a bit left to write.

Least Words: Not counting a stupid poem I wrote for Enjonine, which I can't really consider fic, the winner is Follow your inner moonlight (Don't hide the madness) (Rei/Jadeite, Sailor Moon), which is part of my Senshi/Shittenou series I wrote a long time ago.
