With the Spring Classics behind us, the Women's World Tour turns its attention on stage racing, with La Vuelta Feminina just days away. It's going to look a little different this year without last year's winner and dominant force in the peloton Annemiek van Vleuten (Movistar), who retired at the end of last season.
On the other hand, some very familiar faces will still be there hunting stages. Marianne Vos (Visma Lease-a-Bike) took two stages in 2023 and may want a few more.
And several teams have seen the classics as having shown the way to beat super-teams like SD Worx-Protime, and will want to try their hand at the general classification, although Demi Vollering is still probably the one to beat and the odds-on favorite. (Absolutely no commentary here about nature breaks.)
Last year's Vuelta was a big announcement for the young climber from Lidl-Trek, Gaia Realini, who out-sprinted AvV for a stage win and out-climbed everyone but Vollering on the Covadonga climb on Stage 7.
And we've already seen some great younger talent this season, so hopefully some new names will be standing atop the podiums across the eight stages.
La Vuelta Feminia begins with a team time trial on April 28.

I gotta say, I鈥檓 a tiny bit sad for Marianne Vos. She worked till the end, contrary to Lotte who took the excuse of having Lorena Wiebes in the second group to stop relaying, and in the last lap it looked like she was gonna make it. 馃挭

Another reminder that if you have an all-sports GOAT podium and Marianne Vos is not on it you need to do your research and redo it and respect the GOAT.

They call her the GOAT for a reason! When Shirin van Androoij (Lidl-Trek) broke away from the other five leaders, Marianne Vos (Visma-Lease-a-Bike) was the only one fast enough to respond and go with her on the winning move of Dwars door Vlaanderen.
As van Androoij's teammate Elisa Longo Borghini sat on in the group of Lotte Kopecky (SD Worx-ProTime), Puck Pieterse (Fenix-Deceunick), and Letizia Paternoster (Liv AlUla - Jayco), Vos and van Androoij powered away, until it was clear that the victory would be down to the two. Van Androoij stopped cooperating with Vos with a couple kilometers left, but there was no stopping Vos, who led out the sprint and won by a bike length.
Paternoster was the fastest of the group behind, winning the sprint for the last step on the podium ahead of Kopecky.
