As far as I can see, a significant part of Nocturne audience haven’t heard about the official radio drama “Nocturne of Recollection”, which confirms Alucard’s feelings for adult (18 y.o.) Maria in some way. (All the complaints should be addressed to Konami :D)

To the main part. One of the flashbacks tells us that — several centuries before SotN — Alucard’s servant, Lyudmil, told his master about the festival where Lisa’s favorite flowers were used:

“Once a year, young men express their love to girls with garlands made of these flowers”.

At the end of the radio show, Alucard and Maria are alone in a blooming field. When Alucard draws the lady’s attention to beautiful flowers growing nearby, she is willing to gather some. Then the Tragic Prince remembers deceased Lyudmil, whispering under his breath:

“Whitе garlands?.. I should have said ‘Yes’ when you offered me a lesson how to make them”.

The authors imply that the dhampir and the huntress stay together after this episode.

P.S. I hope you understand Alumaria/Mariacard admirers a little better now.

So, did Konami plan for Maria and Alucard to be a couple? Definitely yes. Did they manage to reveal their relationship well? This is up to you.

And I remind you that Alumaria fan base has formed around adult Maria. All the adequate viewers support the idea that Adrian and young (16 y.o.) Maria should have a purely platonic love, but most gamers consider their romance after the time skip as a partial analogue of Lisa and Dracula. (This is fantasy, my friends — the laws of our world don’t work for a 300+ y.o. dude. In addition, the game universe compensated Adrian’s questionable age with vampire hibernation: roughly speaking, his intellectual growth had been frozen for centuries, so mentally he was not much older than his passion).

My personal opinion: we have a basis for a story about true noble love, but it’s all in writers’ hands.

What is your personal opinion about the Maria SOTN x Alucard ship?

This is a tough question, honestly. Essay incoming!

I wouldn't call myself an Alumaria shipper (I'm more about exploring the canon CV friendships/partnerships than anything), but I also wouldn't say I'm as opposed to the basic concept as most others in game fandom are lately. The age difference is ridic on the surface, but I think it's actually pretty likely that Alucard himself could've been around SOTN Maria's age at the time he went into the coffin, putting him around the same mental age at the time they meet if we're playing by unrealistic fantasy vampire aging rules. I also love both characters, and I think the dynamic of the series' tragic hero with its OG joke character has a ton of potential for fun interactions.

What really weakens the pairing in my eyes is, ironically, the official media that attempts to promote it. Richter more or less suggesting Maria fix Alucard's depression at the end of SOTN feels iffy, despite me really liking the line about Maria being able to "save his haunted soul." The radio drama portrayal of Maria as an inept wannabe housewife and Alucard as The Worst Roommate In The World really isn't endearing. It's actually kind of sad to see such a fun and independent character like Maria reduced to having her entire life revolve around gaining Alucard's favor, especially considering how young she is, as well as seeing just how petty Alucard actually becomes on a daily basis now that he no longer has to worry about saving the world.

I think there really are some good themes in the drama—the fact that problems like depression and self-loathing can't be fixed overnight, the concept of Alucard and Maria possibly forcing themselves to play domestic roles that don't fit them, Alucard putting up a front to prevent himself from hurting others again, etc. The problem is that these themes receive so little focus compared to stuff like the two of them arguing over Maria's terrible cooking or the radio drama’s OCs, and some of them might not have been intended at all.

So while I do think the pairing could have potential, I think Konami's portrayal did enough damage that fans who are interested in it pretty much have to rebuild it themselves. There's a lot of great fic and art out there that does this! I also think there's not enough focus in the fandom on them just as battle partners and (especially) friends, and the adventures they might have after SOTN.

I probably won't go as far as shipping it myself in future CV stuff I write, but I think their dynamic itself is really intriguing, and I'm excited to one day explore it!

Netflixvania fans will hate Mariacard because one's 16 and the other's an adult after shipping and continuing to ship Trephacard, which has a teenager shipped with two adults

EDIT: Okay I know this isn't obvious but it needs to be said, Netflix Maria uses the design of 12 year old Maria, but she's actually 16. SOTN Maria is 17, which makes her a year older than Netflix Maria. If there was a 5 year time skip in the show, that would make Maria 21.

I'm a little worried about Maria and Alucard's relationship in season 2. Considering the romance between characters in the games were pretty accurate. I know that Maria and Alucard had some sort of romance in the games? I hope this is the relationship they actually change in the show because of the emphasis that Maria's a minor. And having them fall in love despite that is just grooming behavior.

Thanks for being so accepting of other's shipping preferences! To me, Alucard just does not fuck. He is unfuckable. And he does not want to fuck. If someone comes onto him, he'll make his familiars deal with them. When I play SotN, I make Alucard wear the colors of the asexual flag, despite being sure that LGBT flags did not exist during that time. But I do enjoy his relationship with Maria and ship them as a QPR.

Same for me. I know it's a bit stereotypical to point at the brooding introverted boy who speaks two words per month and say "nah he's totally aroace", but I genuinely can't see him ever falling in love with someone, although of course he can care deeply about his friends. (same with Shadow btw, they have similar dispositions)

There are a lot of ships with him: Trevorcard, Richtercard, Mariacard, Soniacard, Hectorcard, Juliuscard, hell I could even add Somakado (probably more popular in Japan from what I've seen), but I don't feel any of them. Still, I can see the appeal in more or less all of them 👍

(personally Hectorcard is my brOTP :> I want them to be friends and the only sane men in Dracula's castle. Trevorcard is cool as well... although obviously I need to specify, games only :P)

Also I forgot there is a customizable cape in SotN lol! That's cool :D

Maria’s and Alucard’s interactions in Grimoire of Souls are so adorable and heartwarming! Alucard compliments the battle prowess of both older and little Maria often and seems way more open about how he felt about the Maria he knew. He also thinks it’s interesting and sweet to see what Maria was like before they met and he’s really kind to her. And then there’s the hilarious moment in which an offhand comment from Simon makes everyone picks up on the romance and Alucard doesn’t deny it but gets all embarrassed... I love it all so much! XD Especially Shanoa being as savage as ever by chiming in with “...I don’t see why this is important right now.” I’ve been so fortunate with my OTPs from different series being confirmed beyond all doubt recently ;w;

First impression- my first impression of her was in sotn, i thought she seemed nice, i didnt know about how cool she is in rondo until later

2. Are there any popular fandom OTPs you only BroTP?

I'm not a huge shipper in general, but maybe the most relevant to me in this case is Mariacard.

I LOVE both characters. I think they have the potential for amazing interactions, both in terms of kicking ass together as vampire hunters and Maria's energy and happiness bouncing off Alucard being super stoic and miserable (and eventually helping with his outlook). They both even have traumatic pasts.

So while I get why people ship them, I think only viewing them in terms of romance kinda takes away from the fun dynamic that already exists. Re: Maria especially, I think she’s too often viewed/treated as “Alucard’s love interest,” which is a shame because her role in Rondo is what defines the character for me.

26. Most shippable character?

In contrast to everything I wrote above... Alucard. I think that's kind of a given for this fandom, since he's lived for so long and had so many interactions with the Belmonts and their allies, plus probably some other characters in the space between SOTN and the Sorrow games. There's a lot of untold story there!

The characters he's interacted with canonically are all pretty different too, which means there are a lot of different potential relationships fans could draw on.

And also, obviously... he's pretty. He's just so pretty.

27. Least shippable character?

Probably Lisa. Partly because I'm just not into her as a character, partly because I feel like her and Dracula pretty much has to be a thing 5evr (even if only one-sided on Drac's part, after her death) for there to be any larger story at all. Also, who else does she even really interact with in canon?
