The Thai government has announced an emergency decree to stem largely peaceful protests in Bangkok, including a ban on large gatherings.
In a televised announcement read out by police it said urgent measures were needed to "maintain peace and order".
On Thursday morning police arrested several activists, including three key protest leaders.
The student-led democracy movement has called for the prime minister to resign and curbs on the king's powers.
The emergency measures came into effect at 04:00 local time on Thursday (21:00 GMT on Wednesday).
Police said they arrested about 20 people, but did not confirm their names.
The BBC has learned that those arrested include key protest leaders - the human rights lawyer Anon Nampa, student activist Parit Chiwarak, widely known by his nickname "Penguin", and Panusaya Sithijirawattanakul.
In a widely-watched livestream video police officers were seen reading out charges to Ms Panusaya in a hotel room. Another video showed police putting her into a car as she and her supporters chanted slogans.
Mr Anon, 36, was the first to openly break the taboo on discussing Thailand's monarchy by calling for reforms in August. Ms Panusaya became one of the most prominent faces of the protests since she delivered a 10-point manifesto urging royal reform later that month.
Both men have been arrested previously over the student-led protest movement that has swept Bangkok since it gained momentum in July. Ms Panusaya, 21, had not been arrested until now.
What's the new decree?
The decree from Prime Minister Prayuth Chan-ocha, a former junta leader, was announced on state television.
It said protesters had intended to instigate an incident leading to "chaos and incitement of conflict and public disorder" and caused "obstruction to the royal motorcade". Some protesters on Wednesday had raised the three-finger salute, a symbol of the movement, at a convoy carrying the queen as they were pushed back by ranks of police.
Shortly after the decree took effect, Thai riot police cleared protesters from outside the prime minister's office. Some tried to resist, using makeshift barricades, but they were pushed back.
Hundreds of police were seen on the streets even after protesters were dispersed.
In addition to limiting gatherings to four people, the decree puts restrictions on the media, prohibiting the publication of news "that could create fear or intentionally distort information, creating misunderstanding that will affect national security or peace and order".
It also allows authorities to stop people from entering "any area they designate".
Why are students protesting?
The growing student-led democracy movement has become the greatest challenge in years to Thailand's ruling establishment.
Protesters are demanding the resignation of Mr Prayuth, a former army chief who seized power in a 2014 coup before becoming premier last year after a controversial election. They also seek the rewriting of the constitution, whose amendments in recent years have been disputed, as well as an end to the harassment of state critics.
Mr Prayuth rejects accusations the electoral laws were fixed in his favour.
Since August the calls for change have grown to include reform to the monarchy, sparking unprecedented public discussion of an institution long shielded from criticism by law.
The Future Forward Party had proved wildly popular with young, first-time voters and garnered the third-largest share of parliamentary seats in the March 2019 election, which was controversially won by the incumbent military leadership.
Protests were re-energised in June when prominent pro-democracy activist Wanchalearm Satsaksit went missing in Cambodia, where he had been in exile since the 2014 military coup. His whereabouts remain unknown and protesters accuse the Thai state of orchestrating his kidnapping - something the police and government have denied.
Since July there have been regular student-led street protests.
Rallies in the capital over the weekend were some of the largest in years, with thousands defying authorities to gather and demand change.
The protesters' calls for royal reform are particularly sensitive in Thailand, where criticism of the monarchy is punishable by long prison sentences.

JULY 2020 GOLD STAR MEDIA SCHEDULES & REVIEW
Members may earn 3 points each (up to 6 points) for writing, by the end of August 7 KST:
A solo para of 400+ words based on their monthly schedule (does not count toward your monthly total).
A thread of six posts (three per participant, including the starter) based on their monthly schedule.
Threads do not have to take place directly during an important date listed on the schedule, but must be related to what the muse is mentioned to be doing in the paragraph explaining their schedule/the company’s schedule for the month and/or their thoughts on the mentioned activities or lack thereof.
These schedules may be updated throughout the month if new information needs to be added.
Reminder: June schedule posts are due by the end of July 7 KST. Please do not post schedule posts in the fmdschedule tag.
OVERALL COMPANY
All Gold Star idols are scheduled for a meeting with upper management the day before the news of the upcoming base Culture Complex is leaked to the media. They’re given a more detailed rundown of plans for the facility than the public is, although not all the details are made clear. In the meeting, everyone is informed Gold Star has partnered once again with BC and Dimensions to fund the construction of a new building in Gangnam meant to become the ideal location in the world for fans of idols. The building will include a museum with exhibits dedicated to the history and music of each group and soloist, a handful of theatre venues for intimate concerts and company-sponsored musical productions, a merchandise mall, a cafe, and many other fan experiences. (admin note: For reference, imagine something similar to SM COEX Artium —with over three times the budget.) The idols won’t spend much time there even once it’s finished being built, but content starring them is critical to the financial success of the venture, so the next several months leading up to its opening will have all three companies’ idols working hard to make its opening a success. This month, that mostly involves producing photo shoots: all idols will attend a photo shoot session this month where three categories of photo will be tacked: profile pictures for the artist wall (grayscale, professional and serious tone), images for life-sized cutouts of each idol (wardrobe will consist of jeans and a single-color top for each idol, fun and bright tone with fanservicable poses such as here and here encouraged) and 3D imaging for 3D-printed figures of each idol.
Important dates:
July 5: base Culture Complex briefing meeting.
July 12-July 31: Photo shoots for base Culture Complex, as individual muse schedule allows, at unspecified photo studio in Gangnam (admin note: muses may encounter idols from other companies while there).
GOLD STAR SOLOIST 1
Now that “Blueming” promotions are complete, it’s time for her to prepare for her concert tour. The set list includes her latest songs as well as older favorites. This month, the focus is making sure she has the performances of each song down with hours spent in the practice room, with extra time and focus spent on the ones that involve back-up dancers.
Important dates:
N/A
GOLD STAR SOLOIST 2
Now that her concert tour is done, she’s been granted a vacation from the company. She’s allowed to schedule her vacation as she wishes throughout the month (she may travel abroad if she wishes, with or without a manager), though she will need to be in Seoul a few days out of the month to listen to demos for potential new songs as Gold Star has been throwing around the idea of a holiday release at the end of this year for her.
Important dates:
N/A
GOLD STAR SOLOIST 3
The release of his English-language album approaches and as the track list has now been finalized, he’ll be expected to spend long hours in the recording studio this month to finish laying down the final vocal tracks on the album before he heads into the final stretch of album preparations next month.
Important dates:
N/A
SILHOUETTE
On their tenth anniversary, they receive a rare video by way of their manager’s phone from CEO Bang Sunyoung herself congratulating them on ten years. In it, she gives encouragement for their comeback and thanks them for their dedication to the company for ten years. On the same day, they host a mini outdoor fanmeeting for fans in honor of the occasion. Their new comeback releases on the third and it seems Gold Star’s marketing of a reinvention of Silhouette for their tenth anniversary worked, as the song climbs up the charts to a Gaon number one in its third week
Important dates:
July 1: Ten year anniversary mini fanmeeting.
July 3: Release of “Sixth Sense” & Sixth Sense album, music show promotions continue through August 3.
July 6: Guesting on MBC FM Starry Night radio show.
July 13: Guesting on SBS PowerFM Youngstreet radio show.
July 15: Radio Star appearance filming (to be aired: July 22).
ARIA
Aria finishes off music show promotions mid-month after a busy schedule of music show promotions. Before that, they make an appearance on School Attack, where they’ll visit a middle school. At the beginning of filming, they’ll split themselves up into pairs of their choosing and be given a mission where they pick three Korean consonants and must find a food with at least two of the consonants in it in order to eat before they leave for the school. If they fail, they have to walk to get to the school instead of riding the bus with the rest of the members. Once they are all at the school, the members must find clues to lead them to start the school attack performance for the students. They’ll also be filming the first two episodes of Queendom on July 16 and July 30 (the latter date also happens to be their debut anniversary), and they’ve been asked to prepare a performance of their representative hit song, “Ah-Choo”. Full details of Queendom filming for this month can be found here.
Important dates:
July 6: School Attack appearance filming (to air: July 13).
July 15: End of music show promotions.
July 16: Queendom episode one filming (introductions).
July 30: Queendom episode one & two filming (representative hit song stage).
ORIGIN
July is a month of filming for Origin. In total, five music videos will be filmed for their comeback this month, though only three will consist of the full group. Those three videos will be filmed while Origin is on a trip to California from July 21 to July 27 and will include their “Black Swan” music video, to be filmed at The Los Angeles Theatre, their “On” Kinetic Manifesto, to be filmed near the Sepulveda Dam, and the week-long filming of their official “On” music video, to be filmed at Vasquez Rocks Natural Area Park. The members will continue to practice their performances while abroad.
Important dates:
July 8: “Shadow” MV filming (lead rapper only).
July 16: “Ego” MV filming (main dancer/rapper only).
July 21-July 27: “On” Official MV filming in Agua Dulce, CA, USA.
July 21: “Black Swan” MV filming in Los Angeles, CA, USA.
July 22: “On” Kinetic Manifesto MV filming in Los Angeles, CA, USA.
IMPULSE
Before Impulse makes their comeback at the end of the month, they need to shoot their comeback teasers along with the music video for their comeback. Shortly after they make their comeback, they’ll need to return to the dance studio to record a name tag survival dance practice for fans in addition to their standard dance practice, which will be filmed before their comeback.
Important dates:
July 1: Comeback teaser photo shoot [2] [3] [4].
July 7: “You Calling My Name” MV filming.
July 27: Release of “You Calling My Name” & Call My Name album, music show promotions continue through August 27.
FUSE
Their comeback date is finalized for the end of next month, meaning they have to begin to wrap up preparations this month. In addition to fittings for outfits that are quite a change from their “Zimalabim” and “Umpah Umpah” concepts, they have the album photo book to shoot and, near the end of the month, the music video. Fuse’s creative team and management begin to feel more pressure for Fuse’s comeback to do well after the company sees the success of Silhouette’s comeback, which could threaten Fuse’s place on Gold Star’s priority list, and the pressure management is feeling is evident as their own comeback gets closer.
Important dates:
July 6: MV and stage outfit fittings.
July 15: Album photo book shoot.
July 25: “Psycho” MV filming.
ELEMENT
To keep fans entertained while Element is away from activities, Gold Star will have them shoot a video for Youtube of them playing a game of Mafia in the first half of the month. For their third anniversary, Gold Star has planned a day of livestreams for Element to interact with their fans. Each member will be asked to do a solo thirty minute to one hour livestream some time when they’re available on July 19 before 6pm KST, at which point, all four members will hold a one to two hour group livestream where they’ll talk to fans and play games and reflect on the last three and a half years since they released their first pre-debut single.
Important dates:
July 10: Mafia Youtube video filming.
July 19: Third debut anniversary VLive.
FEMME FATALE
Femme Fatale only have concert dates in one city this month (as they continue to film for their video diaries series), which is a change from all of the traveling they’ve been doing since the beginning of the year. While they’re in Seoul, they’ll lay down the needed vocals for the upcoming release of the Japanese version of their Kill This Love EP, but other than that, they’ll have some downtime this month, though they’re still busy enough they won’t get a true vacation.
Important dates:
July 17: Femme Fatale In Your Area World Tour concert at IMPACT Arena in Bangkok, Thailand.
July 18: Femme Fatale In Your Area World Tour concert at IMPACT Arena in Bangkok, Thailand.
July 19: Femme Fatale In Your Area World Tour concert at IMPACT Arena in Bangkok, Thailand.

Rise of the Hybrid Machines
PHASE 1: REALISING A VISION
BUDDHISM FOLKLORE OF THE HIMMAPAN FOREST
For centuries, Diversity of living creatures has been changed, adapted, and evolved over generations, and Hybrid has been used as a tool of synthesis across different cultures and time. You may know Hybrid as an offspring of two different species of creatures or something that is a mixture of two very different things.
Even in myth, Hybrid creatures have been created on behalf of protection, preservation and beauty, they are a mix of natural and cultural matters.
Tumblr media
But by revealing the secret of what seems to be perfect, comes with the unseen flaw, the system seems to be unbalanced and it is plausible that something is missing. Many creatures have been feeding on the same plants which could cause the extinction of plant species.
This mythological forest holds a secret of a complex ecological system of creatures, where some were feeding on each other and some were relying on the other.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
So then I reconstructed the rules of hybridization to be able to create the new creatures and feed them back into the existing ecological system. To create the new layers within the forest which will help mitigate the parts that were unbalanced and being destroyed.
The new creature, Maruekka-Pongplai is a hybrid that is a mixture of deer and bird with a role of caretaker of the forest. Deer are the symbol of regeneration, and a mixture of bird species was adding the ability to carry out the pollination process for the plants.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
PHASE 2: UPDATING A MANIFESTO
In a world that is full of invented and existing technologies. The hybrid becomes less important or even forgotten.
“Let them march.
Roaming the soil, covering the air and in between the water.
Let them breach.
Interfering with the interfaces, cooperating with organizations, surveillance every corner and every turn
Let the art and the science create the impossible,
as never before, hybridization of machines.
Brazing the irons, metalizing the joints, wiring the circuits
Bring them to live, the resembling of machines”
Tumblr media
But Today,
In a world that is full of invented and existing technologies. The hybrid becomes less important or even forgotten.
In Bangkok, the rapid growth of technology leads to the increase of pollution and deterioration in the city, where water becomes polluted, soil becomes contaminated and air that we breathe is now harmful to our body.
Tumblr media
So, I’m proposing a new kind of near future, a time where creatures took part in shaping the environment. By bringing back the rules of hybridization, to create a family of hybrids that will help balance and mitigate Bangkok fragile ecosystems
Tumblr media
But instead, Hybrids will be born from the consolidation of existing machines, some of them of common use, combining the different performances in relation to specific needs.
Tumblr media
Rules of hybridization of Hybrid machines will be based on the term ‘Zoomorphic hybridization’.
where animal forms will be used as references in constructing Hybrid machines.
Zoomorphic hybridization will bring more ‘empathy’ and ‘connection’ between machines and people, and also build an environment where people and machines are co-existing with each other with complex relations of companionship
Tumblr media
Each of the hybrid machines is having their own role within the city, from purifying air to decomposing plastic wastes. With the combination of machines that made them specific for the role.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
PHASE3: CONSTRUCTING A VISIONARY FRAGMENT
Deployment day Zero:
vimeo
Some creatures in this family of hybrids work independently and some are working together.
Detecting and sending signals to the others or providing energy for the other.
Tumblr media
In Bangkok context, Hybrid machines were fed back to the system as the third layer in the ecological system (indicated in blue), they are not only linked to each other but they are emerging into the infrastructure of the city, they will be living among people and involved in their daily life as a companion.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
These Hybrid machines will start to become what's called the ‘new normal’. That will later be involved in parts of your daily life like posters, advertisement boards, newspapers or even in television. They will also observe us, but for our own good.

BANGKOK - At least 11 million people in India risk being uprooted from their homes and land as authorities build highways and airports and cordon off forests, activists said on Tuesday, undermining a government push to provide housing for all citizens by 2022.
The estimate includes about 1.9 million indigenous families whose land claims under the Forest Rights Act have been rejected, said advocacy group Housing and Land Rights Network (HLRN).
Last year alone, authorities demolished at least 114 houses every day, evicting about 23 people every hour, according to HLRN's report published Tuesday in New Delhi.
Slum clearance and city "beautification" drives accounted for nearly half the evictions, while infrastructure and development projects, and forest protection made up a fourth each, it said.
"Evictions have become so common, they are normalised, and we don't see the outpouring of sympathy and help that we see when there is a big natural disaster," said Shivani Chaudhry, executive director of HLRN.
"But there is nothing normal about evicting the poorest, most vulnerable people to beautify cities or build an airport," she told the Thomson Reuters Foundation by phone.
In most cases, authorities did not follow due process, including giving advance notice, and few people were resettled or received adequate compensation, Chaudhry said.
The rapid growth of Indian cities, combined with unclear land ownership, is increasingly triggering legal disputes and forceful evictions of poorer communities, rights groups say.
There are more than 680 disputes over land in India, affecting nearly 8 million people, according to research firm Land Conflict Watch.
An official at the Delhi Development Authority, which undertook evictions in the nation's capital, said there is "huge pressure" from builders and other entities to free up land.
"So despite a zero-eviction and in-situ housing policy of Delhi's slum board, evictions continue to take place," said Somnath Bharti.
Authorities demolished more than 41,700 homes last year across the country, forcefully evicting at least 202,000 people, according to HLRN.
There is no official data on evictions.
A government plan, Housing for All, is meant to create 20 million new urban housing units and 30 million rural homes by 2022. But implementation has been slow, and campaigners say it will not fix the issue of homelessness and informal settlements.
"It is ironic that forced evictions and demolitions have continued despite the Housing for All scheme, and other government programmes that claim to focus on housing for marginalised and low-income populations," Chaudhry said.
Evictions have become a poll issue ahead of a general election that kicks off Thursday.
The main opposition Congress party, in its manifesto, has promised the urban poor the right to housing and "protection from arbitrary eviction".
It also committed to end the eviction of the nearly 2 million indigenous families living in forests.

Why Coconut Water Brand Harmless Harvest Is Betting On Regenerative Agriculture
New Post has been published on https://perfectirishgifts.com/why-coconut-water-brand-harmless-harvest-is-betting-on-regenerative-agriculture/
Why Coconut Water Brand Harmless Harvest Is Betting On Regenerative Agriculture
Harmless Harvest was founded with a mission: “to make the most amazing coconut water in the most ethical way possible.” But what happens when the only material used in coconut water—the coconuts themselves—are at risk?
Harmless Harvest is the leading brand of organic coconut water in the U.S. In 2018, Danone invested … [] in a Series B.
“Earlier this year, our coconut supply was in trouble,” CEO Ben Mand explains. “We were experiencing 12% smaller coconuts yielding 30% less water, and we knew we had to do something bold.”
Thailand, where Harmless Harvest sources its coconuts, has experienced a particularly hard drought this year. The drought has impacted the country’s production of staples like rice and corn, and it is estimated to cost the country up to $840 million in losses, according to the USDA. A low water table, compounded with the fact that up to 90% of the coconut trees in Asia are at the end of their productive cycle, signals there could be coconut supply issues on the horizon.
The coconut water industry has grown tremendously over the last decade, and it is now a $4 billion global market with a forecasted CAGR of 16.1% over the next decade. Harmless Harvest has emerged as a leader in organic coconut water that uses less processing, impacting the flavor of the final product.
The industry has been rife with human rights and environmental issues. An estimated 95% of coconuts are grown by small scale farmers in Asia-Pacific, with little social protections. And, according to the Guardian, “Unsurprisingly, the financial spoils from the coconut craze do not tend to reach growers.” It is estimated that up to half of the coconut farmers in the Philippines live in extreme poverty, making less than $1/day.
PHICHIT, THAILAND – 2020/01/15: A villager walks around a dry Yom River during a drought season (now … [] winter season) in Phichit province, north of Bangkok. (Photo by Chaiwat Subprasom/SOPA Images/LightRocket via Getty Images)
Harmless Harvest recognized this as a business threat from the beginning. According to Mand, “Market conditions fluctuate wildly – it is not uncommon to see prices swing by 50% in a matter of weeks…We worked with Fair For Life to determine a price floor to ensure a steady price for farmers. Conventionally sourced coconuts do not have a price floor.”
Investors took notice of their approach. Laurent Marcel, CEO of Danone Manifesto Ventures, shared, “We invested in Harmless Harvest because we believed it had the two key features of long-term brand success: a delicious, organic product, and a thoughtful supply chain that takes care of people and the environment. As the company keeps expanding, we think the latter, which is what makes it ‘harmless,’ is even more relevant for consumers who increasingly expect brands to be caring and transparent.” Danone led a $30 million growth round in Harmless Harvest in 2018.
Today Harmless Harvest is publicly committing to sourcing 50% of its coconuts from certified regenerative organic certified farmland by 2023. This means that the company will invest in restoring soil health and diversifying income for their farm partners. Harmless Harvest is also betting that this will secure their supply of quality organic coconuts. Annual revenues exceed $100 million in retail sales, according to the company.
This farm has started the process to convert to regenerative agriculture by adding cover crops to … [] the farm. This has helped significantly reduce soil erosion during the monsoon season and increase soil moisture during the dry season. To complete the transition to regenerative, the farmer will add intercrops, mulching, bee hives, etc.
“We will use all vertical and horizontal layers of the farm ecosystem – from shrimp and fish in the canals, to nitrogen-fixing legumes on the soil, to bee hives that improve pollination, to pepper as a pest deterrent on the tree trunk. All of this [effort] aims to maximize plant density and health, carbon sequestration, soil health, and increased/diversify revenue sources, which improves farmer revenue and helps ensure better financial resiliency,” says Mand.
Harmless Harvest CEO, Ben Mand.
The mission is a personal one for Mand. He grew up on a conventional farm in Wisconsin, and later saw his father suffer from a neurodegenerative disorder which has links to the chemical used in conventional farming. “My grandparents were farmers, and I lived with my parents on the farm. I understand this livelihood. A few years ago my dad passed away from a neurodegenerative disorder which has links to the chemical used in conventional farming… For me, this mission is deeply personal.”
The company says that it is making the bet on regenerative agriculture because a long-term supply of coconuts is critical to the survival of its business. Mand hopes that others in the industry join in this effort. He says, “we definitely hope that our competitors will get inspired, join the movement, and work on regenerating the soil. All the training material of our program will be open source and available for anyone to use. If all agricultural land on earth would be farmed with regenerative, soil-building practices, we could fix enough carbon in the soil to reverse global warming within 5 years.”
Harmless Harvest plans to publish an annual impact accountability report.

Thai protests: Large gatherings banned under emergency decree
The Thai government has announced an emergency decree to stem largely peaceful protests in Bangkok, including a ban on large gatherings.
In a televised announcement read out by police it said urgent measures were needed to “maintain peace and order”.
On Thursday morning police arrested several activists, including three key protest leaders.
The student-led democracy movement has called for the prime minister to resign and curbs on the king’s powers.
Police said they arrested about 20 people, but did not confirm their names.
The BBC has learned that those arrested include key protest leaders – the human rights lawyer Anon Nampa, student activist Parit Chiwarak, widely known by his nickname “Penguin”, and Panusaya Sithijirawattanakul.
In a widely-watched livestream video police officers were seen reading out charges to Ms Panusaya in a hotel room. Another video showed police putting her into a car as she and her supporters chanted slogans.
Mr Anon, 36, was the first to openly break the taboo on discussing Thailand’s monarchy by calling for reforms in August. Ms Panusaya became one of the most prominent faces of the protests since she delivered a 10-point manifesto urging royal reform later that month.

"There was fear lurking inside me, deep fear of the consequences," says Panusaya Sithijirawattanakul.
In August, the 21-year-old nervously stepped onto a stage in Thailand and delivered an open challenge to the monarchy.
To the cheering of thousands of students of one of Thailand's top universities, she read out a now-famous 10-point manifesto, calling for reform of the monarchy.
It was a shocking move. Thais are taught from birth to revere and love the monarchy, but also to fear the consequences of speaking about it.
'Life would never be the same'
Thailand is one of the few countries with a lese majeste law. Anyone criticising the king, the queen, the heir-apparent or the regent could be jailed for up to 15 years.
But in the past few months, pro-democracy protests have swept the country, and students like Panusaya are at the heart of it.
"I knew my life would never be the same," she later told BBC News Thai.
Panusaya had been shown the manifesto just hours before she read it out at a rare large protest in the capital, Bangkok.
