sometimes i feel that people don’t really even /try/ to understand elain. like they have all these think pieces for lucien & azriel & gwyn etc, but they just don’t try with elain. they don’t bother. and it frustrates me to no end because you know exactly why that is - because she has more ‘feminine’ interests & this makes her ‘boring’. her hobbies are quiet, she likes to keep to herself & people often overlook her BECAUSE she likes to keep to herself.
rn i’m thinking of her childhood and what their mother says about elain & the sisters
Tumblr media
- nesta was groomed to be the matchmaker - to find herself a match, elain a march & feyre eventually the find a match. that was her main priority. find herself a marriage & then sort out her sisters.
- feyre was ignored by their mother, not even considered. because she was a “wild thing” since birth and the mother evidently didn’t know how to handle that
- elain though? she’s deemed useless. mama archeron may not say it but you know it’s implied.
elain is pinned as useless and only good for her beauty. only good for what potential matches she could make in the future. i think this is integral to her character and why she keeps to herself so often. this is the potential context of her character that keeps me sympathetic to her and why i adore her so much. because after so many people call you useless from your childhood, eventually you start to believe it. eventually it sticks. eventually you only know yourself as useless and nothing more.
add on then their poverty when their soil wasn’t good enough to make vegetables, imagine how useless you feel there. that gardening and baking is the hobby you’ve found you’re good at, but you can’t even do that because the environment around you limits your capabilities. also, a lack of education in planting & harvesting vegetables because you can’t afford books and tools to learn how to do so.
[i’ve been trying to find the quote for the soil part as support but i can’t fucking find it so this is all i have]
Tumblr media
imagine how useless you feel then. i think her becoming fae (as traumatic as it was) is actually helping her. it’s healing her. cerridwen and nuala are helping her, her discovery of being a seer is actively helping her realise she is not useless. she has worth. she is finding her worth.
this story to me (which will be in her book in acotar 5) is so compelling to me. elain discovering her worth and realising that she doesn’t have to be “the pretty one”, “the boring one”, that she /can/ be soft & strong all at once. that her optimism and her kindness is a strength.
i cant wait. i’m so excited. i adore her already based on pure observation i can’t wait to get inside her head. and i will continue to try to do it now until her book comes out because her story will always be compelling to me because it’s a different story to warrior-training-sword-fighting-uber-magical-powerhouses (no shade to feyre & nesta - i’m just very excited to learn about your sister :))
(I ALSO FOUND A REALLY CUTE FEYRE & ELAIN SCENE FROM ACOTAR 1 WHICH PROVES FEYRE FORGIVES HER i will post it later - i’m very enthusiastic about my archeron sisters & their bonding.)

Mother Archeron: You should really identify yourself when you pick up the phone
Nesta: Sorry, let me try again
Nesta: Major disappointment speaking, how can I help you?
Nesta: better?
Mother Archeron: Yes, thank you

Since we’re all functioning under the theory that Mama Archeron is possibly fae, are we all also functioning under the assumption that Papa Archeron encountered Mama Archeron via Koschei?
Is she also one of the women that Koschei collected and Papa Archeron found a way to free her? Because how the heck was Papa Archeron able to barter for Vassa’s temporary freedom if he wasn’t aware of who Koschei was and how he operates?
Also how does Tamlin know her?
Remember in acotar how Tam asked Feyre if her mother told her nothing?
Does this mean that she was either og from Spring Court? Or from Hybern? (Bc Tamlin has ties to both)

How far back do you go "fixing" ACOTAR before it just becomes a whole other story
Like if I think about it on a surface level I could start at ACOMAF and then just retcon like Sarah did
BUT if I really think about it I gotta start at the beginning and get into the Mortal Lands and the whole Archeron family
BUT when I think about the history I gotta go back to the first war and Jurian and the Wall
BUT if I really think about it I hate how
Prythian is just upsidedown Westeros/the UK so boring
Maybe I genuinely forgot but what does the otherside of the wall look like?? Like the wall itself is invisible but standing in the Mortal Lands can you just see the Spring Court?
Hybern (the king AND the place AND THE PEOPLE) is the big bad but we don't know anything about them
Fae are immortal but we don't have great great great grandparents just chilling around, like how is everybody dead, not everyone fights in wars and shit so where did they go
The "Mortal Lands" the "Continent" the "King of Hybern" "Papa Archeron" "Mama Archeron" name these fucking people, KoH was an enemy for 2 BOOKS IN A TRILOGY, HE LITERALLY SPEAKS IN MULTIPLE SCENES HOW DOES HE HAVE NO NAME
Why can Nesta resist glamour? Why could she steal from the Cauldron? But most importantly why will this never really matter??
[Steppes means flat and unforested land so the mountainous and forested Illyrian Steppes aren't steppes at all]
The Night Court doesn't make any sense geographically, politically, socio-economic wise, military wise etc
And I'm sure a dozen more I can't think of because I'm supposed to be writing Neris content not this
And it's crazy cause some things only work because of how sideways the story already is

ACOTAR BOOK 1 Slut-shaming scene in cottage.
Sorry for mistakes English is not my first language.
We on the Internet talked already about slut-shaming scene in cottage in ACOTAR. That happened between Feyre and Nesta. In the context of Nesta being assaulted by Thomas, cultural prejudice put in Nesta by their mother and grandmother, just being mean and not konowing how to have a healthy, normal  conversation.
I want to present (I hope) a new view of that scene.
We all know that both of Archeron's sisters can’t really talk about a sensitive topic. They assume a lot and react with anger and hurtful words (the intensity of it depends on the sister). So, we can assume that:
Feyre PROBOBLLY never got THE talk about birds and bees. That includes all forms of contraception and how to prevent pregnancy.
Nesta didn’t do it. Her or Feyre would mentioned if that would heppend  because it most likely would be a disaster. And their father is in that scene embarrassed enough for Feyre to really notice it, so he as well is out. And Elain is well…. Let’s say that she probably wasn’t the One to take that responsibility on her.
We know she knows the basic mechanics because she had sex and live in the proximity of farms and forests. Which means animals having sex. But she never in her internal monologue think about contraception or pregnancy in general. (At least I didn’t spot it. If I’m wrong, please let me know) + look how fast she falls pregnant with Rhysand.
That post a question what if Feyre would fall pregnant with Isaac Hale? What are her options and consequences for everyone involved?
1.      Both we and Feyre and Nesta know that Isaac is not going to marry her. Either because of his parents or it will be his decision. So that option is out.
2.      She may have an abortion but:
A)     Would she want to have one?
B)     Could they can afford one?
C)     Do Isaac and his family sponsor one?
3.      If Feyre kept the baby would Isaac and his family help Archeron somehow? Would Archerons take the help?
4.      Feyre is only or primary breadwinner of the family. What will happen if she, for at least 3 to 4 months, can’t hunt? (let’s say from 5 or 6 months of her pregnancy, at best) We are not counting the months or weeks that would take her to go back to full health AFETR childbirth.
5.      They can’t afford a doctor or midwife. We don’t know ANYTHING important about their relationship with other women in the village so we can’t know if they would want to help. (If the Archerons would even ask for that help or take one that would be offered?) But what if Feyre dies or is seriously hurt from pregnancy and childbirth?
6.      What if Feyre has a miscarriage or stillbirth? What would be the impact of that on her body and mind?
7.      If Feyre delivers a healthy baby that another mouth to feed, right? And for 1 or 0,5 years, she needs to be almost always at home. Just for feeding. So again, no hunting in full ability.
8.      Who going to care for that baby when Feyra hunts? Change diapers (and that are the old diapers that must be washed, boil and ironed), look for the baby, play with it, stay up late because they have colic or the first teeth etc. A disabled father that doesn't care for his own daughters, much less his potential grandchild? Elain that in Feyre's eyes is more or less still a baby herself? Nesta? That will probably feel in that moment like Feyre is dumping on her the consequences of her reckless behaviours.
9.      They would need to have a baby staff cradle, diapers, clothes, toys, and food. So, the need to buy either the things or materials for it-- so money.
10.   Children especially young can be sickly. Would they be able to afford doctors and medicine for them? And that assuming that that child would not have a chronic illness or some form of congenital disability etc.
11.   And I'm not even starting on marriage prospects for sisters and the potential social consequences of that for everyone.
Feyras pregnacy would be economic disaster for Archerons.
So my theory is that in that scene, for Nesta could be as much about their survival in case of Feyra geting pregnant as it was for biting back at Feyre for comments on Thomas, cultural prejudice put in Nesta by their mother and grandmother, just being mean and not konowing how to have a healthy, normal  conversation.
But what are you thinking?

I don't understand this fandom.
When Nesta doesn't want to be around Cassian, or when she's ignoring him, she's MeAn or a she's a HaTeFuL bItCh.
But when Elain doesn't want to be around Lucien, or when she's ignoring him, she's TrAuMaTiZeD or it's the AnGsT.
It's not angst, it's hypocrisy.
Keep in mind, Nesta was traumatized too. She was abused by her grandmamma, used by her mother, neglected by her father, sexually assaulted by Tomas, tortured by the Cauldron and forced to become High Fae against her will, and then you have all the trauma she endured during the war: feeling like a failure for not stopping the wall from coming down and not being able to protect the humans, only being able to save Cassian and not all the other Illyrian warriors, seeing her father murdered right in front of her, seeing Cassian almost murdered (thrice), and Nesta herself was almost murdered by the King of Hybern.
If Elain gets a free pass because she's traumatized then why doesn't Nesta?

One of the characters I hate the most in acotar is Papa Archeron.
And I'm not talking about their years in the cabbin. He was dissabled and traumatised. I don't blame him for that. Overall I don't blame anyone for anything taht happened those years. They all tried to help however they could but they were in an unfortunate situation and they were doing theis best. I do think he should've done more. Maybe he wasn't able to do anything physically, but he should've been there for them emotionally. And yes he was traumatized and depressed but so were the girls and they are his children and even tho I myself am not a parent, I think you don't really have the luxury of falling into depression when you have three children depending on you.
That being said I hate him because he's a bad father. He didn't bacome bad father when they became poor, he's ALWAYS been a bad father.
So youre gonna tell me that you're gonna watch your wife and MIL groom and abuse your eldest child, insult you middle and straight up neglect your youngest and do nothing about it. That man got way more than he desserved.

A Mama Archeron crack theory/headcanon
Before I begin this insane, potentially rambling post, I’d like to thank the wonderful @elainsweetcobalt. You are such an amazing friend to me, a beautiful soul and overall good, strong person. (Just in case you haven’t heard that in a while.) Te amo 💕
She and I have spent many nights discussing ridiculous plot points, what we wished would happen, what we hope for and (obviously) crack theories in the ACoTaR/SJM universe, and because of that I was able to flesh out some of this thanks to her help.
Now to the meat and potatoes:
What if Mama Archeron is the Mother?
My theory/head canon is that Mama Archeron (The Mother) was a truly immortal being. She roamed the earth, not just Prythian or the Continent, because why not?, She’s immortal, and at some point she met Papa Archeron. She used her own connections to help him in his travels and made him the Prince of Merchants with her knowledge of other cultures.
Either a bond or simply true love blossomed between them. She didn’t want to be without him and he her. So she gave up her immortality-her magic. It went into the cauldron and she put it in (what she thought) was safe keeping.
The Mother had never actually raised her creations; She never birthed them. So when Nesta was born, although she did love her child, she was unsure of how to show it. (I want to stop for a sec and say I’m not trying to excuse the abuse and neglect the sisters endured by their mother, just putting together a narrative for a wild theory. Please don’t come at me) since she didn’t know how to show it, Mother chose to teach her daughter how to persevere in high society to try and ensure Nesta wouldn’t be disrespected or taken advantage of.
When Elain was born, she favored Papa Archeron. While Mother loved both of her daughters, she unintentionally gave Elain a gentler life because she looked more like the man she gave up her magic for. She then put more responsibility on Nesta to protect her sister.
Then came Feyre, followed shortly after by Mother’s illness. She hadn’t expected to fall ill-hadn’t considered it. She used to be immortal! It never occurred to her that humans sometimes died of illness, or that she could be one of them. She did, however, see Feyre’s resilience and determination, even at a young age.
Despite having given up her magic, a tiny amount still remained. I believe this is what allowed the batboys to feel their bonds with the sisters before they were turned. When Mother was on her deathbed, she was struck with a vision-her first and only since she became human-of Feyre (who was saying her goodbyes at the time).
Flashes of Feyre’s life: poverty, hunting, falling for Tamlin, her trials, Rhysand, Velaris, becoming High Lady. But most importantly, Mother saw her youngest daughter mated and in love, holding her own child, and with her sisters and their own loves beside her-laughing and smiling.
Mother asked her to take care of the family because she saw that Feyre would lead them to a better life despite the hardships that would come after her death.
Fast forward to the sisters being kidnapped and thrown in the cauldron. Elain went first. The cauldron held her immortality and magic, therefore a piece of their mother was inside it. When Elain was pulled into the water the magic recognized her. Not because it knew her as The Mother’s child, but because she favored Papa Archeron.
The cauldron/The Mother’s magic gifted her everything it could, because it was reminded of the man she loved.
When Nesta went in, not only was Nesta already angry (rightfully so) but she was resentful and wanted revenge, so without remorse or a second thought, Nesta stole from it. HOWEVER, what she stole was actually a piece of The Mother’s soul (possibly the last bit of magic that left her when she succumbed to her illness as a mortal.)
When Nesta saved Feyre and Nyx, that piece of soul was released-NOT Nesta’s power as we thought-and Mama Archeron saved her daughter and grandson to ensure the vision she had on her deathbed came true. She was who Cassian saw.
Please take all of this with a HEAPING pile of salt. It’s just a crazy theory that was fun to think up and piece together, and I’m still not sure it entirely finished.

Mama Archeron and what she got right and what she got oh so wrong
This is an pro Elain centric post with a mention Elriel, so if you ship Elu/cien or dislike/hate Elain this will not be the post for you
Elain is pleasant to look at
When human, Elain had easily been the prettiest of them, and when she’d been turned High-Fae, that beauty had been amplified….but Elain had gone from lovely to devastatingly beautiful.
But she has no ambition.
“I would like to build a garden.” She declared.
“You can’t have it both ways. You cannot resent my decision to lead a small, quiet life while also refusing to let me do anything greater.”
“I can speak to him(Graysen about the humans).”
“Using me(to find the dead trove).”…”Then I will find it. I might require some time to…reacquaint myself with my power, but I could start today.”
She does not dream beyond her garden and pretty clothes.
“You(Feyre) should come with me(to the continent),”
“A quiet dreamer with a different sort of strength.” - sjm during the September 2022 interview
"A seer," … "The Cauldron made you a seer."
"I can hear the sea. Even at night. Even in my dreams. The crashing sea—and the screams of a bird made of fire."
“Shall I tend to my little garden forever?”
She will be an asset on the marriage market for us one day, if that beauty holds, but it will be our own maneuverings, Nesta, not hers, that win us an advantageous match.
Instead of it being her mother and Nesta it was a purring and sentient(?) Cauldron and a meddling High-Lord
“You are my mate.”
“You belong to him(Lucien).” “I belong to no one.”
“And that entitles him to my time, my affections?”… “He doesn’t know me.” … “I don’t want a mate. I don’t want a male.”
“So you will leave Elain alone…But stay away from her(Elain).” - Rhysand forbidding Az from pursuing Elain

I know Papa archeron has his secrets. Even more than their mom .
I have a feeling she had Nesta and Feyre with a Demi fae or fae from winter court..
Papa archeron had Elain with a fae from spring.
Here's where my theory gets weirder.
What if Papa archeron and Mama archeron weren't married.
Cousins. I actually believe both parents have witch heritage. Papa archeron crochan and Blueblood predominantly. Mama archeron yellowlegs and ironteeth predominantly.
Remember the witches are all related. You know how asterin and manon were related. Though was Manon's grandma asterin's grandma.
Imagine that fled the tog world with her mom. Mama archeron became crueler. Because of her mom..
Them both drying they cursed papa archeron. Which the witches can do. He knew he would have to die. So his daughters could live. .
Sorry just a crazy theory.
I just find it interesting secrets about their parents
Manon didn't find out about her parents till very late..
Neither did Dorian about his dad.

It’s such a full circle moment in a way that Elain is actually the last sister to "settle" and get married / mated because certain people always told her she was good for nothing but marriage and wouldn’t make it far without a man by her side.
I wish Mama Archeron could see her daughters now, Nesta married to a bastard, Feyre as a mommy and Elain with her engagement broken off. The woman would be too stunned to speak.

Papa Archeron's story??
First of all, I have a question:
Does Papa Archeron see to anyone else like the ACOTAR version of the finance bro?
That is sooooo rich but the moment he lost some money he starts panicking and making stupid decisions and then live/die in obscurity?
That kinda guy?
I saw the post discussing the ✨speed ✨ of the Archeron family losing everything. That got me wondering and creating my theory. There were many awesome ones in comments and reblogs (I will link the thread at the bottom for y'all to read and give credit to everyone involved). Now to the main part of my post:
Warning it will contain spoilers for the book "The doll" by Boleslaw Prus
If you want to read the XIX-century polish social and moral novel please skip this post. (I don't recement, the internal monologues of EVERY character are fucking irritating and more cringing than the most cringing thoughts Ferye have in all 3,5 books.)
So my theory is that Papa Archeron was like the main character of The Doll - Stanislaw Wokulski. Mrs Wokulski was a nobleman but his family lost all land and fortune long before he was born and because of that no one from the rest of the nobility remembers that he was, in fact, a noble. When he was young he marries an old merchant's widow, for which he work, to get money, a business and a house. She die because she wanted to be pretty for her young trophy husband. And now Wokulski is ✨rich✨. Then he goes to make some good business decisions and more money (it took him a couple of years). Now he is ✨super rich✨. But all the nobles think he is not noble and rich ☹ just rich and they don't like him, belittle him (not openly of course) and don't let him for the "salons". So he diced to marry a young aristocrat from a falling house name Izabela Łęcka. At that point, he is like 45 and Isabela is like 25. She plays with his desire for that marriage for some time. During that time he buys out her family from falling (more or less). Then he learns English for her (at that time it was a cool thing for young and rich aristocrats to do) and learns from overhearing a conversation she had with some other suitor that she thinks he sucks. That kicks him to leave the girl alone.
Now to put it to Papa Archeron. His family were nobles but lost money and were forgotten when Papa was born. Since mortal realms in ACOTAR are basically like Africa (after thousand in the ACOTAR, hundreds in our world YEARS of slavery), they have to figure themselves out on the new. That usually means bad economics, wars etc. it's not hard to believe that this situation + politics, religions or others means whatever money they have just ✨puff✨ gone. He (20) marries the old merchant's widow for business. She dies. He tries to live and do business but fails due to other nobles. He (25) goes to make more money (lucky for me, others may think it's a talent). Make friends and contacts. Comes back (30). They still don't like him. He contacts Scythia's friends that tell him about mama Archeron (20). They meet, fall in love?, and marry for her status (he (33) gives his now family an absurd amount of money – he is now not ✨super rich✨ just ✨rich✨). They come back to Prythian. They (+/- 22 and +/- 35) have Nesta then the rest. He makes BAD investments for some time (30 - ….) and his other business fall due to what is happening in mortal's realms. They try to keep it up for a few more years. They keep the appearance good enough for the duke. But there come the final bad investments and the fall begins. He is now +/- 44. His wife dies (+/- 36). Then they move to the hut (Papa Archeron's childhood home).
That makes him at the beginning of the first book +/- 60. He is old, with a broken and will never fully heal leg and (my private head cannon, which I got since first reading) probably have dementia (that's why he is better after Tamiln messed with his memories – he got accidentally healed from that).
That doesn't excuse him in any way, shape or form. It's just theory.
If there is evidence in the canon that proves or disproves my theory, please don't hesitate to let me know. Link Check the reblogs and comments.
