Was reading your response to the Okumura Ryuji/Morgana fight, and the way the person worded Ryuji's character made me wanna ask... Do you think a bad fanbase is a fair reason to dislike a character? I've heard people say things like "no look at the character too", but... For example, I'm very neutral on Ryuji. When he's good, hes SO GOOD, EXCELLENT BOY, but Ann is my favorite girl. Guess who he pervs on exclusively and is rude to all the time? I've never seen his fans talk about (1/2 sorry)
His rude behavior, or his pervy tendencies, or his more selfish desires regarding the PT. That's fine!! Not everyone wants to constantly talk about bad things their fave has done!!! But people referring to him as a "woman respecting king" so insistently rubs me the wrong way, since he treats Ann Like That. That, and (more personal) i remember making a post/ask thing once about my grievances with Ryuji, esp his perv stuff, and the fans that interacted very aggressively denied his behavior (2/3)
And it even turned into a big discourse on the blog I submitted it to (it was that one confession blog). All the people that responded and just tried moving the arguments to "well Yusuke did this-" or even tried to push blame on Ann "she was asking for it" just kinda cemented my already growing dislike for Ryuji. Super sorry this is so long!!! Final question: is a bad fanbase a fair reason for disliking a character? (3/3)
Don’t say sorry about multiple sent asks, I don’t mind kfdsjla;fja As for the answer, I want to say yes and no, but really it’s just “yes with a side note attached.” Yeah, it’s ok to not like a char because of their fans, but I think it’s as long as you know why you dislike the char beyond the fans (well tbh, imo it’s usually the crazy fans so I think stans is a better word, but even then there’s diff stans). And tbh, I....can’t....think of a character I don’t like that the fandom/fanbase does....but I know nothing about the char all the while (closest and most recent example this....is....I know people dislike that grey haired moe blob on twitter even tho I don’t think they watched the show, and while I’m not a fan of the moeblobness I don’t know anything about the char so I’m personally not upset). I can only name chars I don’t like because of what happens in the text, fandom be damned (but sometimes they don’t help). Which is why it’s a yes with a side note. If you don’t like the char despite not knowing them.....probably get to know the char first even if your impression is clouded by the fandom....at least you gave the char a chance.
Under cut cause length (first few sentences in the first paragraph under the cut/tldr at the end gives you the answer a bit more in depth, the rest is rants related to that and why I get frustrated in a similar sense too, but yeah sorry if I repeat myself, I kinda jumped all over + my tendency to try to nail a point home I feel like might’ve had me repeat a bit more than usual akslfjdakfjaf):
I say this because.....it’s hard....it’s hard to keep them separated, unless you completely isolate yourself from the fandom (which is basically impossible if you wanna keep up with news, even the comment section is part of the fandom tbh...and you might be looking down their for diff reasons). And then.....well...the big reason....sometimes seeing the fans really highlights the reasons you dislike the char. That’s what happened to me and Makoto, specifically cause of....a certain fan (and buddy if you happen to see this, nothing against you, no bad blood, def won’t mention your name I respect you and the debates we had)....AND TO THE TUMBLR READERS WHO GET NERVOUS: It wasn’t on this website in case anyone is freaking out so if you’re thinking “Oh god it’s me” it is most likely not you (tho I think we do know each other on here cause of usernames/saw each other in passing but we def aren’t mutuals last time I checked), and while I do respect that person.......my god did they highlight the reasons I had issues with P5 and Makoto. Ironically in trying to defend her and show off her good sides, I realized the writing issues more and more and her bad sides became more glaring. It turned my frustrating dislike and attempt to try to work out my issues with her and P5 (ironically “working out” in hindsight would’ve been me....denying and refusing to look at P5′s flaws) into....well......the salt factory you know today. (same thing happens with like......Yukari and Junpei fans too tbh...that’s more recent tho, it feels like they are just downplaying their negatives constantly and I’m not about that). Basically, you probably have issues already, they are just more pronounced now.
As for “look at the character”....you kinda already are doing that, and that’s probably where your existing issues originated from (tho if someone wants a more in depth reason as to why, while you DON’T OWE them an explanation, it is also hard for someone to understand your feelings and reasons if you don’t try to explain).
As for Ryu, yea, I getcha, I like the guy, I’m neutral positive on him....was my best bro but he’s 2nd best thanks to post-Kamo writing. I like him because of his positives, but I always keep his negs in mind because. Cause like while I agree with the fans IT MAKES NO SENSE! P5′S WRITING IS BAD! it happened, same as I agree that Anne kicking Ryu’s ass, along with the other girls, is shitty. Hate the scene, and I accept that it happen (low key gonna start some kinda 2nd wave war with this bs cause the fandom be like that, but I’m really surprised no one took Anne smacking Ryu behind the neck cause he was being too loud as super offensive and abuse.......it’s def something a friend might do, not like belting him just a tap, and it’s framed as chill and also as warning him to reign in the volume control, but high key surprised no one has tried to cancel her cause of that). BUT that DOESN’T mean it erases all the creepy stuff he’s done. Is he the goodest boi when he’s being good? The best. Is he always a good boi? No, he def is not. And hearing that he is can be frustrating to people that do see his flaws (cause they are there). And like....you are 100% able to like a character despite and because of their flaws, while also accepting they have those flaws. I do it with Yosuke, Ryuji (for the most part), Teddie, Shinji, Ken, Kanji (when he’s not around Naoto, then he’s in a trash can for me), P1/2 casts, Aigis, Mitsuru, as long as the flaws are within reason and are treated pretty well....then I’m ok with it. (again, Kanji/Ryu have moments when I’m like....NOPE! but when they aren’t doing the bad thing I’m cool with them). As long as the flaws are withing reason (aka they aren’t making a jerk person out to be the person in the right, or the writing is trying to sweep what they did under the rug, or trying to force us into empathizing with them despite what they did while also trying ot sacrifice empathy towards another char.....*cough*Makoto/Yukari/Junpei*cough* if the writing isn’t doing that...... I’m probs neutral to pos on them).
Like I’m fine if they are criticizing the writing and being like “Him doing this makes no sense cause it conflicts with the good boi we’ve already seen!” That’s a-ok! Not only do you recognize your char has flaws, you also are able to identify issues with the writing. But saying “so I’ll choose to ignore that scene” isn’t....ok. Because sadly it did happen, as contradictory it did happen. AU it all you want, but you have to accept it happened outside of that AU. Like, I don’t like the Mika conflict in Anne’s CoOp, by which I don’t like how it went down (100% fine with Mika, and there being conflict with her). How it the whole thing started doesn’t make sense if you put MainStory!Anne in her CoOp. MS!Anne can read the room and other people’s emotions (only other person capable of that is Haru, or at least with Mona), hell she was so good at it she noticed something was up with Shiho without Shiho telling her about it! The issue was the fact Anne’s not a mind reader and could only assume the issue Shiho was going through that Anne was aware of (and that was her spot on the team). Now MS!Anne is not like Yosuke, she doesn’t put her foot in her mouth. She’s not like Naoto who can’t read the room. She’s not super eloquent, but can empathize and when she can interact with people she can do it pretty well. So why the hell does she basically not think before talking and insult Mika? Sure Anne’s not GREAT at school, but she’s not a moron, she can talk to people. But her CoOp makes her a moron all around, 100% airhead, and that’s how her issues with Mika start, by not thinking before talking and accidentally insulting her via blatantly “not caring” about the job to a full time person......it’s stupid, it makes no sense, I hate it. But it’s there, the flaw might not be present in the main story, but for the all around character (cause CoOps are included) it is now and I just have to deal with it. We can bitch about it all day (and trust me I will) but it happened. Basically never frame it as “it didn’t happen,” but instead “It SHOULDN’T HAVE happened.” One is denial, the other is critiquing the text.
Anyway my rant aside, yeah I hate it when...well Ren/Ryu/Yusuke (no one’s said Mona yet, cause....well yeah...which is good they haven’t labeled him as it yet tho), are labeled as “drinking respect women juice” and I’m like “I have one to a few women who would disagree.” I know some people will argue Goro is drinking it, and imo he’s not....he’s just eating the “I don’t discriminate sandwich” which is different. And yeah the “But Yusuke-” yeah yeah we’ll get to him, but right now we’re talking about RYUJI. I’m not a fan of derailing a topic *war flashbacks* *shivers* anyway. But yeah I remember that debate, I was probably one who was like “We’ll get to Yusuke but right now we’re talking about Ryuji” and pushing the blame onto Anne is disgusting and Kamo Arc!Ryuji would be very upset. >:( (btw high key I think I was the first one who started the first anti-makoto war wave with me saying “yeah Anne shouldn’t have apologized Makoto started it and blah blah she was an ass” not the exact words but basically just calling her out on her shitty behavior cause the game certainly didn’t......tho as Miley Cyrus would say.....”I didn’t mean to start a waaaaaar~!” I actually wrote my first Persona Problems on that topic.......but it got lost in the drafts....my photo examples kept getting messed up which is bad considering the whole post really relied on them....I should try to dig it up tbh....)
Tldr/short answer: Yeah, you probably already have issues with the char to begin with tbh, and the fanbase can highlight those issues more. It’s also hard to escape the fanbase (I see stuff I don’t wanna see despite trying my hardest to avoid certain circles, it just happens).

Forgetting to buy more SP patches before taking on the final boss was probably a mistake.
Forgetting to sell the items I can’t take into NG+ for cash that I can take into NG+ was probably a mistake.
Forgetting to get Arsene out of Lockdown so that I can record his awesome new stats for NG+ was probably a mistake.
In my defense, I was really excited. I wonder if the game will let me make a side trip while I’m out...buying flowers. Because that is what it has come to.
Buying flowers.
Shinya is a terrible brat and wasn’t in Akihabara at ALL until the day before the deadline. Thanks, Shinya. There goes my max confidants. Blugh. At least I got some other things done. Got the award for the maid cafe, so I don’t have to go back except once to open the Twins field trip. I still suck at batting even with third eye. But I am a champ at fishing, it only took me like five trips to the fishing pond to catch the Guardian! I could have done it in less if I’d figured out how to manage my bait properly sooner.
Tumblr media
Smile, Akira, we’re awesome! ...still not even halfway to enough fish points for the award, though. :/
I am also awesome at the crane game in Akihabara, and by that I mean I am persistent and have enough yen that it doesn’t matter how many tries it takes.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Ryuji truly knows the way to my heart. <3 I missed two episodes of Featherman; one I forgot to check the TV, and the other I was laughing so hard at the title that I forgot to write it down. But I know where they are, so it’s something else for NG+. ^_^
So I romanced Sumire, and I’m...slightly off-put. Only slightly. Not because of her, but once again, because of the writing. Sumire is cute, but the game is singling her out as “special” again.
She is the only one who confesses to you, and you explicitly have the option to turn her down, rather than the implications of a confession that you can shoot down indirectly (Haru’s, Makoto’s, Futaba’s), or the absolute fucking galaxy-brain leap of logic that is Ann’s dialogue choices. X’D
Tumblr media
If you ignore that, though, they’re stupidly cute. Akira’s a little shit, as usual. Sumire asks you to “look at her”, based on her whole confidant thing of realizing that having someone you care about watching you makes you want to do better.
And so Akira looks.
Tumblr media
And looks closer.
Tumblr media
Dorks. XDDD
Tumblr media
They’re sweet. Not my favorite romance route; that still goes to Haru. I think in the end I still prefer Akira adding another member to his army of younger siblings. He’s gotta be better than Yu. XDDD
So I got Kasumi’s rank 10 and literally the next day was February 2nd, and I spent the afternoon getting her third-tier persona. So I didn’t even get to see...Vanadis? in battle. Vanadis matches a little too well to Arsene for my tastes, and Ella is pretty, but I’m not sure how I feel about it looking kind of bride-ish when Maruki’s running around in a wedding tux.
Tumblr media
.
Anyway...what do we do the night before the meeting that will decide everything?
We make curry and we pretend everything isn’t about to go to hell.
Tumblr media
.
So, Maruki. Let’s chat.
Tumblr media
Does no one die in your world? Or move away? What if someone’s dream is to move abroad, and someone else’s dream is for that person to stay with them forever? If what we saw in your Palace is any indication, both of them would be tortured into accepting new dreams where they wouldn’t hurt each other. Dreams that you deemed acceptable. And that’s why you’re wrong.
Tumblr media
So you’re giving up your happiness to make sure everyone else is happy? Why can’t you just use your powers to make her remember you, without the trauma? Are you not all-powerful?
Or are you running away from the person that reminds you how helpless you used to be? You’re not moving on, you’re dwelling, and using it as an excuse to be terrible. For all of your kindness, you know Akira is a threat. And benevolent or not, you’re being manipulative. You’re using Goro against him. You’re hoping that he makes the decision you didn’t, and chooses the person he cares about over the reality he wants.
Tumblr media
Every time he says something like this, I feel exactly the way he says he didn’t want me to. Newsflash, asshole, that’s exactly what it seems like. If we break your reality, you’re heavily implying he won’t be here afterwards. And you’re gambling that it will be too much pain for Akira to bear, because you know how important they are to each other.
Goro, meanwhile, is both perfectly determined and perfectly stupid.
“Don’t tell me you think dangling my life before us is going to have any impact on our decision.”
Goro. Honey. Do you really think he cares so little that he wouldn’t hesitate for just a moment?
Akira practically throws the calling card at Maruki before he leaves, which I think sums up his feelings pretty well.
Tumblr media
I appreciate that Morgana understands that this is something between them.
Goro doesn’t want to be controlled or manipulated ever again. Which... I get it. He’s never had a chance to have full control of his own life. But that doesn’t mean Akira isn’t going to be upset by the idea of him dying. Again.
Tumblr media
Two out of three dialogue options are basically “hang on one fucking second,  your life matters to me.”
“Don’t oversimplify this.”
“Oh, but it IS simple. Do you think I’d be happy with this? Being shown mercy now of all times? I don’t want to be pitied-- this isn’t something I’m debating with you! Your indecisiveness is essentially a betrayal of my wishes.”
It’s not pity, you stubborn, idiot boy. ...and I hate that you see it as a betrayal.
Maruki is...very confident. And very kind. And part of the reason he upsets me is because he isn’t wrong, in many cases. But he uses that to justify imposing his will on everyone.
And being kind doesn’t mean that you are free from sin. You can be kind and still be manipulative. And selfish. In the end, that’s what separates him and Akira. Akira, despite all of his hesitation, refuses to be selfish. Even when he has every right to be. He will not hurt someone else to prevent himself from being hurt.
He will not hurt Goro by refusing to fight Maruki, even if it will rip his own heart to pieces.
Tumblr media
Oh, I like you. At first glance, the silhouette was very similar to one of Mordred’s original pieces of concept art, though, and I was ready to Yell before I looked closer. XD
And so, at 11:30pm, having completely forgotten the several things I needed to have done before the meeting with Maruki, we head in to steal the Treasure.
This man needs to stop. How dare he know how much I love Cool Stairs?
Tumblr media Tumblr media
I find it very concerning that the core of Eden is a writhing mess of tentacles. The metaphorical worm in the apple? X’D We were so close to getting Nyarlathotep, but Azathoth is suitably intimidating. And I appreciate that he’s using the same concepts as the Thieves: his will to rebel against what he sees as an unfair reality, and removing his mask to summon his distorted persona. Thanks for validating all of my headcanon meta about Adachi and Palaces all in one go.
But...
I can’t do this. What the fuck are you wearing?
Tumblr media Tumblr media
At least Azathoth is cool.
Tumblr media
Somehow I managed to bring exactly the right team to get consistent four-person baton passes for the whole first round. That one was about half an hour.
...the second round was an hour and fifteen minutes because holy shit this thing was a tank and had entirely too many arms and really needed to stop healing.
Tumblr media
The torch is very pretty, at least.
And then before we can completely book it out of there, he steals the torch back and literally forces his second awakening so he can keep going. And at that point...what is he even hoping to accomplish? What is he going to do? Are you really willing to kill us to maintain this illusion?
The answer is apparently yes because it was a surprisingly poetic battle as each teammate in turn got a chance to fling themselves in the way and stop it from crushing Joker to death with it’s big giant hand.
And THEN he goes even further and validates some canon meta and me all at once by fusing with his own persona in a continuing last-ditch effort to... I really think he’s trying to kill us. I think he’s that far gone. Or at least his persona is. Because after the fusion, it’s specifically called “Adam Kadmon”, not Maruki. The persona is in control. It’s canon that if you try to summon something stronger than you, it can overtake and possess you. I know Maruki seemed to willingly give up control, but it’s also possible that forcing his second awakening like that left him with a persona that was entirely too strong for him.
(Nevermind that him being that strong in the first place is kind of ridiculous. That’s a discussion for after the final credits. I’m just hyped that someone fusing with their persona was a thing that actually happened!)
Tumblr media
He’s so big. Where’s Satanael so I can fuse with him and we can have a megazord fight in Collapsing Ideal Tokyo? XD
The kids up the Holy Shit Quotient by a mile by catching the giant fist all together so that Joker can deal the final blow.
And what a final blow it is.
Tumblr media
I really like this, because I don’t know if it was deliberate, but I read it as a callback to Daybreakers. Which came out before the game, iirc, so the first real piece of content. It’s just on a bigger, grander scale.
Everything comes full-circle in the end.
Tumblr media
I really like the Mona helicopter. XD I just wish it was a little bigger, because poor Goro squished into the bottom. And poor Akira not managing to make it into the helicopter.
And this asshole WILL NOT STAY DOWN.
What is the point of punching it out on top of the collapsing Palace? Are you trying to kill us both? Do you just want to keep going until neither of us can stand? Dude.
And of course Akira won’t let him die. I think the upsetting thing about this, though, is really that you don’t get the chance to say a proper goodbye to Goro. Or anyone, really, but mostly Goro. The Palace crumbles, Akira wakes up in jail, the Thieves wake up the next morning after fighting all night, and Goro is...gone.
At least the Thieves seem properly sad this time. Even if it’s only for one scene.
Lavenza calls it “ironic” that “your wish for other’s happiness prevailed over your own.” I just call it unfair. Once again, hasn’t he done enough? At least he was only technically in jail for nine days from his perspective, but that must have been a whiplash of an adjustment.
Out of jail, Sojiro acknowledges he was Terrible at the beginning of the year, it’s 2:30am, time to do Valentines and then go to bed before the final walkaround.
And then Valentines passes. I spent it with Sumire. They’re cute.
And then it was February 15th and all the rest of the girls gave me chocolate?? It was just a constant ambush of being given chocolate all day?
And then it was March 3rd, and the Thieves are all splitting up and moving away? Are we sure this isn’t Scramble’s timeline? I get it, narratively, they’re taking the opportunities to move forward that Maruki’s reality would have denied them, but it still hurts.
And then it was March 13th and I still can’t save and now it’s 3am and apparently we get to play out White Day and Sojiro is giving me advice for the perfect date because captain idiot here forgot to plan anything and what heckin’ restaurant is getting this flustered that just mentioning Sojiro’s name is enough to get a table when they’re fully booked and---
Now it’s the 14th and I have to go buy flowers for my dinner date and I have finally been given control and saved and I am free.
Now next time I play I have to see if I can go sell my leftover items, because I’ve got a couple-hundred-thousand yen worth, and also rescue Arsene from prison. X’D
More thoughts on Maruki and everything after I see the ending, most likely.

Hi, long time lurker here requesting for the first time! Can I have scenarios (or headcanons if not possible) of Ren/Akira seriously trying to win back his S/O after borderline-cheating on her (with either Ann or Makoto)? If you could really play up the hurt/comfort factor, that would be great--I'm kind of a sucker for those. Thank you so much!
this got too long who o ps. consider it as thanks for keeping up with my super long hiatus!

You started a call with 💍Darling♥️💍
← Oct 24 at 2:00 PM
Call ended at 2:32 PM
“Not even a seen…” You muttered to yourself as the call ended when you pressed the close button. Wait for as long as you could, it felt like your spam messages aren’t getting through to him. You placed your phone on the counter and sighed, leaning on the counter with your chin propped on your hands. The cafe droned away with only an elderly couple talking and the TV going on with the news.
You clutched your stomach when it was growling. You were supposed to meet with Akira and eat at a cute cafe that just opened in Akihabara but that was supposed to be two hours ago. Sojiro’s curry has never felt more appetizing than it was now.
Speaking of curry, the aroma of the trademark food was stronger than before. You looked down and blinked when you spotted a dish of freshly cooked curry together with a spoon that seemed to have your name engraved on it.
“You looked like you needed it.” A deep voice said in front of you. You looked up to see Sojiro leaning on the counter, a slight tilt on the corner of his lips that seemed like a tiny grin.
Letting a smile cross your face, you thanked the man as you picked up the spoon and dug on the curry. When the flavor hits your tongue, you let out a happy groan of approval when the spices meshed together beautifully in your mouth. For a moment, you forgot what you were even waiting for in Leblanc
“That hungry huh?” He said dryly, raising a brow. “I thought that young girls like you are conscious of eating too much?”
You covered your mouth before speaking. “Me and Akira were supposed to eat somewhere else for lunch so I thought I shouldn’t eat anything.”
With that in mind, you looked down at your almost finished plate, suddenly feeling sick. “Guess that went wrong, huh?”
It wasn’t that the idea of Akira ditching you made you squirm, it was the fact that this was repetitive. You understood that his school work was tiring, but it shouldn’t be so bad as to cancelling dates at the last second for three weeks?
This was too much for you to handle.
You didn’t even realize that Sojiro had his hand on your shoulder, a comforting action that you thanked the man for.
“Well, I know that I’m not much for good company,” He started, “but maybe I can help you feel less lonely.”
Feeling that he wouldn’t take no for an answer, you nodded and began to tell him about whatever topic you could come up with. As time goes on, Akira was the farthest on your mind as you were pleasantly surprised that Sojiro could keep up with you… not that you had any doubt that the old coot is stronger than you in some way.
Sojiro had bidden you goodbye as you exited the cafe. He would’ve walked with you to make sure you were safe but he had to keep the cafe in check despite being the night. He cleaned the plate of your curry (“Free of charge. Don’t wanna charge a lonely lady.”), the sound of water running on the dirty dishes was a calming noise to him as the stress of today’s work flown by. The TV continued on endlessly with the news, the hype of the Phantom Thieves, the sudden hate for the police, and whatever politics that left Sojiro a sour taste in his mouth. He counted the tasks in his head; after washing the dishes, he should turn off the TV and count the bills that he was slightly behind and then—
“Sojiro, I’m home.”
—He should buy some cat food since he doesn’t know why that boy kept the cat in his bag when he goes out. The kid himself walked in with Morgana not-so covertly hiding as he set his bag on the table and stretched his back. An audible crack followed with.
“So where have you been?” Sojiro asked him.
He wasn’t the type to ask him about how his day went but when he remembers your nearly crying face, he had to know.
Akira blinked, looking as though he as well find the question surprising. “I’ve been at my part-time job, the flower shop at the underground mall. Like a law-abiding citizen.”
The slight cheek at the end didn’t went unnoticed. Sojiro blames himself to show the kid his snark. “Check your phone.”
Akira wordlessly drew his phone from his pocket and raised his brow at the sudden influx of message notifications and a missed call. He unlocked his phone and tapped the messenger app. To his horror, he saw your messages and he winced at the different timestamps.
“Judging by that wince of yours, you didn’t even notice your phone going off.” Sojiro concluded, mouth turning into a frown each passing second. “Poor girl had to wait for hours just waiting for you to show up.”
From behind Akira, he heard Morgana seethed through his teeth. It didn’t take a genius to figure out that Akira did was incredibly idiotic.
“I-I was too busy.” Akira excused quickly. “So I didn’t notice.”
Sojiro clicked his tongue, his patience wavering a little bit. “Like hell you do. You keep talking to her on the phone like it’s the end of the world the moment you let it go. There’s no way that you can miss her calls.”
Yells of his teammates flashed in his mind, the sounds of spells casting out was fresh as the bruises on his skin were beginning to burn. Akira turned his head away from Sojiro’s scrutinizing stare, feeling like he was back at the questioning room. He wasn’t ready for this.
“Well, whatever the hell you did, it made her upset.” Sojiro said, giving up when Akira wouldn’t give a direct answer. “Meet her in person, fix this goddamn relationship of yours and prove that you’re not just another punk.”
If it were any other time, Akira would’ve joked that Sojiro’s words were the most comforting ones that could ever come out of his mouth. But he bit his cheek and nodded, making a mental note to cancel all Phantom Thief meetings for the next week.
You looked at the ‘Seen at 8:52 PM’ and wondered if Akira might be having second thoughts about your relationship.
He didn’t even let you know what he thinks when he saw your onslaught of messages. Then again, maybe he didn’t because he gave you space (which worked… for a while until you lost sleep wondering why the hell did he only seen it). You did recall that he had a part-time job but you were pretty sure that job didn’t take that long.
Not unless he had another activity to go afterwards…
Eyes only focused on the screen, you didn’t notice a familiar figure right in front of your desk. Slim hands covered your own as black hair tickled your forehead.
“Hey.”
As much as comforting his voice could be, you didn’t want to even look at his slate eyes. You kept your head down but didn’t bother to remove his hands. He seemed to catch this, however, as he slowly pried your phone away and cupped your hands in his.
“Please, let me explain.”
He was persistent, a trait in which you both hated and loved. You were biased on his persistence that made him worm through your walls and eventually into your heart.
Letting out a sigh, you lifted your head to meet his eyes. Slate eyes that seemingly dripped with a million apologies. If this didn’t happened before, you would’ve apologized to him instead.
“This isn’t the first time, Kurusu.” You whispered. “You know that, don’t you?”
He sighed out through his nose. “I know and I’m sorry for wasting your time.”
“And you better not be wasting it this time.”
He winced, but regained his composure. “I know I messed up but I had a lot to go through and I forgot the time and then—”
Akira paused when he saw your scowl. “My reasons aren’t getting to you, are they?”
You raised your brow.
He sighed, standing up to his full height but still held a grasp on your hands. “Look, I would tell you about my reasons but… I really can’t.”
“Don’t you think that it’s a great time to tell them?” You said dryly.
His mouth suddenly went dry. “I—”
“Save it.” You spat, getting your hands back from him as you glared at his agape expression. “I can’t stop you from whatever it is you do, but you’d think to spare some time for your girlfriend after the first argument?”
Your little outburst garnered a bit of attention from the class so you covered your face with your hands and groaned. “Just please leave me alone.”
You didn’t hear him say anything else but you did hear footsteps slowly receding until they were gone. Letting your head fall down on your desk, you groaned out once more as you felt your eyes water.
If you can’t go to that cafe in Akihabara, then you might as well go their yourself.
The district was teeming with electronic media that it made your eyes hurt from the lights. Not only that, but there were so many cosplayers and anime fanatics that you had to steer clear from. But not matter what the distractions, you were going to eat there and it’s totally not that you were hungry for the cute animal-shaped food.
Spotting the pastel-colored building, you sped up your pace. Your stomach was already growling and the display of foods on the window is making it more prominent. The Rilakkuma-shaped omurice is enticing, but then again the Anpanman bread is super cute as well…
Before you could even decide, you spotted a familiar mop of black hair at the corner of your eye. You would’ve disregarded it but seeing the head of a black cat pop out of its bag was enough to send you reeling.
The person soon disappeared into the crowds. You debated for a while, thinking whether to follow the person or not but the one who was behind you was beginning to pester you on why you weren’t moving.
With a sigh, you ran away from the restaurant and followed the person. You apologized to every person you’ve bumped into, keeping the black-haired person in your sights. Huffing at how fast this person is going, you might as well be chasing Ryuji who removed his hair dye. Still, no one had black hair that curly.
Luckily you were beginning to walk into an open area; an electronics street that not a lot of people visited. Your head craned around for the person, hoping to see them once more for a good look.
Yet like magic, the person appeared in front of an electronics store, with a smaller woman standing next to him–
Oh.
Suddenly you weren’t feeling so good.
The image of Akira and Makoto together had crushed your insides.
Akira’s habit of staring down at his phone would probably worsen his eyesight.
The strings of messages he’d sent to you went completely unnoticed. Even when he went home after working in the airsoft shop, you didn’t even drop a seen. Maybe he really did screw it up this time.
Setting his bag down on his desk, Morgana leaped out from the bag and stretched his legs. The cat soon caught on with his leader’s attitude. “Is it your lady again?”
Akira took a cursory glance at his feline companion before looking back down at his phone. It didn’t take much for the cat to make a guess.
“I know that we’ve been busy with the whole Phantom Thieves but you know we’re already at a big risk if more people know about us.”
Akira scoffed, looking indignantly at the cat. “You didn’t say anything when Kawakami and Yoshida found out.”
Morgana winced at his words, knowing that among the non-Phantom Thief confidants he’s made already knew of his secrets. “Well… they’re different! They provide valuable assets for the team unlike her!”
“She’s valuable to me.” Akira cut him off. “She’s been there for me despite my records, despite getting the same backlash as I have.”
The phone stared back at him, the hint of his reflection showing his solemn expression. “She makes me happy.”
Morgana sighed through his nose. This was troubling his leader far more than he realized. If this continues on, it would eat Akira from the inside, thus making missions in the Metaverse absolute hell if their leader isn’t in the game.
Sometimes, he loathes being the only sane one in the group.
Before he could even utter his sentiments, a booming voice echoed from downstairs, a voice that both of them never heard being uttered from their caretaker.
“AKIRA!” Sojiro’s voice boomed. “Get your ass in here and start explaining!”
The teen turned to Morgana who had the same shocked expression on his face. Wordlessly, Akira stood up and went downstairs, Morgana following suite. When Akira went downstairs, he saw Sojiro leaning against the counter, a piece of something in his fist and his foot tapping impatiently. His face was twisted in a snarl which twisted even more when he saw Akira come downstairs.
He was afraid to ask but he was probably in shit’s creek already. “Is there something wrong, Sojiro?”
The man didn’t respond at first, letting his angered breathing permeate the room before stomping up to Akira and shoving the object at his chest.
“You’re in deep shit.” He said lowly. “I don’t what the hell were you thinking but you’ve messed up big time.”
He brushed off the pain blooming in his chest from Sojiro’s shove before looking down at the object. The pain soon blossomed into a weight that crushed his heart.
The promise ring that he’s given you was in his hands.
“So that’s it, huh?”
Makoto furrowed her brow when she saw her leader hung his head down. Not once in her life did she ever see the confident Joker look so depressed. His bloodshot eyes were a stark contrast against the bags under his eyes as his glasses were more smudged than ever. Even if she’d given him a cloth to wipe his glasses, she wonders if he didn’t try to remove them when he wiped his tears.
“If I had known this had come to this, I would’ve stopped asking you to come with me when we were checking on one of the students.”
He didn’t say anything, opting to bang his head against the table as he sighed. Maybe the school council room wasn’t best place to conduct a relationship counselling but it was better than anywhere else.
“I don’t know much about you and her, much less relationships in general but I feel guilty for making her leave you.” Makoto said to him. “I’m going to help you get back together with her. No matter what.”
Akira lifted his head and Makoto had to suppress a wince when he looked more miserable like that. “Thanks… I have a plan… and I need your help.”
Makoto Niijima changed in a few weeks and you don’t know whether you liked it or you envied it.
Somehow she grew more confident in the time of the Kaneshiro incident. She was more assertive, more outgoing, more open to helping her fellow students without backing down from her own sense of justice.
That type of confidence is something that you wanted to have. Maybe then Akira would’ve stayed with you.
Speaking of the student council president, you now stared back at the brunette as she warmly smiled.
“Sorry to bother you like this,” She said your name, “but is it okay if you would come to the student council room after school?”
You crossed your arms, not particularly liking where this is going. “For what reason, may I ask?”
She still kept her smile. “You’re not in trouble or anything. It’s just that there are a lot of victims of the Kaneshiro incident that left students in debt. I want to ask them whether they were affected or not so I can ensure that they would be alright.”
You can’t really deny that. A lot of your classmates were victims of the case and even when you pressed them, they would just brush you off. Maybe they didn’t want to involve you in their problems or that you were the girlfriend of Akira. Maybe both.
Letting out a sigh, you nodded at her. When she thanked you, you swore you saw her eyes crinkle with excitement.
Soon, the school bell rang as you packed up your things. Remembering that you had a meeting with Makoto, you begrudgingly went to the room. Maybe if you ditched the meeting, you wouldn’t sock her teeth in everytime the image of her and Akira together pops up in your mind but it just wouldn’t sit right by your morality.
Reaching at the doors, you slid them open and entered. “Niijima-senpai? I’m here.”
You looked around the room before your eyes landed on a figure you never wanted to see. Before you could escape, an audible click resounded behind you as you tried to move the now-locked doors.
“Sorry!” Makoto’s voice echoed behind them. “But it’s for yours and his own good!”
Akira now stood in front of you, his lips pursed into a thin line. He wasn’t looking like his usual, trickster self with his sunken face but your anger clouded that.
“What the shit, dude.” You spat, not even bothering to hide your annoyance.
Akira didn’t say anything. From the corner of your eye, you noticed that he had something in his hand but you didn’t say anything. Not until your anger subsides which will possibly never happen.
Before you could say anything else, he took your hands in his and held them close to his chest. “Whatever you saw, whatever people said to you, they don’t mean anything.”
Your eyes widened when his voice cracked at the end. His original bloodshot eyes were beginning to go redder with each tear rolling down. You never saw this side of him.
“Please…” He whimpered. “Don’t leave me, please. In my time here at Shojin, you were my source of happiness when life brought me down. You made me so happy that I never wanted to let you go…”
His body racked with sobs and soon you felt his tears hit on your face as he let out a pained gasp. You couldn’t even blink, fearing that he might really break down if you turned away from him.
Your back hit the door softly, letting Akira lean on your forehead before sinking down with each passing plea. He had his head on your chest when you felt your own tears forming. Akira didn’t seem to notice you crying, his knees giving away until he was kneeling in front of you, crying in your hands. You felt tears and snot on your hands but you were sure that you weren’t faring better.
“I l-love you t-too much…!” He rasped out, letting go of your hands and instead wrapped his arms around your waist, his head on your stomach. “Don’t leave m-me, please!”
At this point, your sobs were joining with his in the student council room. Without even thinking, you knelt down in front of him and hugged him back. The sight was messy and no one probably noticed Makoto leaving the door unlocked when she heard her leader’s cries.
Throughout the episode, the ring in Akira’s hand felt lighter when you forgave him.

Unfortunately, I can’t tag this person. I’m sorry!😰
Note: I made this longer than how I normally write to compensate for my absence.
For Black Butler, I ship you with
Ronald Knox!
Tumblr media
You two would’ve met under peculiar circumstances.
You had sadly passed in your past life caused by suicide.
And now, you’re being punished for dying too early.
You once worked alongside a tall man named William T. Spears for a few months since you passed the training program and are now being formally taught by your superiors.
It had been a considerable amount of time since then, and you had been working on your own.
You enjoyed being alone and occasionally chatting with your co-workers until he came along.
Honestly, ever since he joined the dispatch, he’s been flirting non-stop with the females of your group.
Not to mention, a certain someone that you once tried courting but wasn’t interested you, he managed to snag her too!
Besides, it’s as if he doesn’t even show up to the dispatch to work.
Just to flirt.
It doesn’t help that he works under you therefore whenever he doesn’t do his job, you work overtime to pay for his mistakes.
But it’s fine, as long as it saves your co-worker the stress of overtime.
Even if you end up with it, it’s just in your personality. Too nice! You have my respect.
And that has taken a toll on you.
You even screamed at William and Grell once for simply greeting you.
Coffee doesn’t work since you’re not human anymore.
Any type of caffeine doesn’t.
So one day, Ronald came to apologise. Of course, not on his own accord but because he was told to do so.
He hasn’t seen you in so long because you’ve been out most of the time trying to reap more souls in order to compensate for what he couldn’t do.
When he opened the door to your office, he saw the mounds of paperwork.
He laughed a bit and then just set the water that he had brought with him beside you.
When you turned to look at him, that’s where he saw the messy state you were in.
Messy hair, glasses fogged and slightly out of place, eyes bloodshot and the obvious darkened callous spot on your middle finger from writing so much.
You muttered a small “thank you” and continued writing your reports. That was when he felt as if he truly respected you.
He did respect you for your work, how efficient it was,
Not to mention, his higher-up is pretty hot. Of course he respected you but only now did he feel guilty for his actions.
“I’ll help you.” “There is nothing for you to help with.” “I’ll do my job properly this time.” “Alright.”
Needless to say after this interaction, you’ve become close friends.
Occasionally having playful banters in the office or sharing slightly suggestive jokes to one another.
You usually go reaping together whenever your targets are close together.
Would visit each other’s quarters and homes whenever you wanted.
Practically living-off on one another.
The, “Work-Husband-and-Wife” type of partnership.
Most people don’t understand your relationship but do at the same time.
It’s pretty...interesting.
For Free, I ship you with Rei Ryugazaki!
Tumblr media
I would imagine you meeting during one of their practice sessions.
Is it wrong that I find you being closely acquainted with Haru?
Anyway, being a close acquaintance to him and practically being his second mother, you would visit him at school.
One time, you remembered Haru doesn’t eat much at school and he informed you that he would have practice later.
So you went to Iwatobi and packed food that would be good enough for at least 3 people, in case someone didn’t have any either.
Not many joined the swim team, as Haru said.
So you didn’t expect a lot of people being there.
You didn’t expect to see a really cute girl with a red high ponytail.
And you didn’t expect to see a fellow glasses character with you.
Your eyes met and you simply smiled and made your way to Haru who seemed to have a little picnic with Makoto and his other friends.
“Hey Haru, you didn’t pack lunch right? Do you think this enough? Do your friends have food? Uh, hey you! Do you have food with yo—“ “Yes, this is enough. Thank you (y/n).”
You would sit down with the team and tell jokes to one another. “Hey! Did you hear about that one deaf guy that got run-over by a car?” “No.” “Ah, well don’t worry! He didn’t either.😏”
Rei laughed the hardest in all honesty. The joke was directed to Haru because you tried to make him laugh. He only scoffed.
After eating and resting for a short while, they got back to training and occasionally abandoning the rules of swimming to have fun instead.
“Oi, Nagisa! Don’t you da-“ “Sorry Rei-chan! It’s so funny to see you embarrassed!”
It’s almost endearing how close they are. Like a whole family.
Not long after, Rei, whom you found out to be the glasses boy, quickly said goodbye and rushed out of the area as quickly as possible.
“What’s up with him?” “We don’t know, we thought that maybe he had a high-maintenance girlfriend or something...” “I’ve always cirwed Rei as the type to be weakened by love.” “Don’t worry, we’ll get him to focus and have fun again! “
You, alongside Gou, compiled books to help strengthen Rei’s love for his partner.
And turns out, you were both wrong.
He didn’t have a partner
Turns out, he’s actually trying to pay-favours from the track team.
You were slightly worried for his well-being and decided to visit the gang after shook every other day.
You oaccasuonally hanging out with the guys and at your house.
You being an absolute doll and making them their favorite food.
You’ve become closer to Rei throughout these hangouts.
You felt as if you could debate about anything to help keep your reading skills sharp.
Especially when it came to the topic of the superficial.
You two would end up to be the closes of friends.
And who knows? Maybe even partners
I know I’d be jealous
For Diabolik Lovers, I ship you with KarlHeinz!
Tumblr media
(Key: Art - Is a vampire’s personal blood-bag and plaything. Can be used solely for feeding and/or pleasurable activities. Of human race or a hybrid of a supernatural being. Occasionally, however rarely, utilised solely for companionship.)
Where to even start?
It all started at a ball. A grand ball that was held by the Demon Lord himself to commemorate his daughter Cordelia’s coming of age day. She was the illegitiamate daughter of the king however, he has decided that it would only be appropriate to honor a celebration to her. Not having proper guidance from her family, it was only natural that she did not know what to do therefore she relied on her art, you, to guide her and inform her about the social standing of majority of the nobles at the ball.(reference from Blood Bank haha)
She surveyed the area and chatted with you when it was absolutely necessary. You, being very knowledgable with the state of the kingdom and yet being highly insecure, could only utter short but brief answers to her queries. You took note of the celebration’s schedule and took out your pocket watch. You glanced at the orchestra and decided that she had merely an hour an a half before the waltz would commence. You encouraged her to socialise with the men and find a suitable conversational partner to dance with. She nodded her head and dismissed you without a second thought. You adjusted your glasses that seemed to have slid down your nose bridge a bit and fixed your long brown hair. In times like this, you wished she had a suitable figure to guide and educate her of the importance of her postition. You worried for her future and her outlook of her situation that would soon affect her decisions in the following events of her life. What she should be trained for, the common good of her future kingdom, the proper way to lead her people. Instead, she had a dead mistress for a mother and a passive deadbeat for a father.
You decided to merely cling to the walls of the ballroom once the first dance had started. Your mistress had surely acquired a partner to dance with and you decided that it would be best for you to simply observe rather than partake in the celebratory dance. Walking alongside the woman who was envied by all was enough to redirect the attention towards yourself and you had enough of the spotlight.
As you were worriedly keeping a watchful eye on your mistress, a tall man had approached you.
This man had the most devious look on his face. Given the material and craftsmanship of his robes, he must’ve been of royal blood-line. ‘A vampire perhaps?’ You started to deduce him, he seemed like a very knowledgable young man. A man that seemed to make sure he gets what he wants no matter who he needs to step on, no matter who he needs to take advantage of. Surely he had the riches and the charm, most especially the charm. He seemed like the type of man to solely rely on logic and not so much on the probability of anything happening. A very calculating character, isn’t he? Your mind thought of all those under the vampire race and had settled on the conclusion that this charming young man was none other than KarlHeinz.
“Good evening, my lady.” He greeted, his voice surprisingly deep for his age. He bowed slightly whilst you curtsied. “Good evening, my Lord. How may I be of service?” You questioned with your voice slightly shaking, surely he wasn’t the type to start idle chatter without an ulterior motive. “What is a charming young woman such as yourself doing alone at the King’s ball? Surely you must have an acquaintance or a lover nearby to keep you company.” He laid a gentle kiss on your backhand and looked in to your eyes. He truly meant what he had said. Such beauty manifested in a mere mortal’s body. He could sense an inquisitive however slightly anxious nature surrounding you. And the scent of your blood was absolutely intoxicating, you were most likely sold from the finest of curators. Surely his prescience should not affect you this much. You seemed like a very interesting pawn to be utilised in his game and he would ensure that you will aid him in pursue of his experiments.
He decided to keep this conversation going. He took note of how you fidgeted on the sleeves of your dark blue gown and how your lenses have fogged up slightly due to the warmth radiating from your face caused by the inability to carry out such conversations with a person you had barely known. You exchanged minimal information about each other. He understood your humor for play on words and you understood his cunning personality. He appreciated your interest in the supernatural nature and he came to be interested in your motherly and caring personality. Perhaps you have thought wrong about him? Perhaps he was a very caring young man who would ensure that his partner would be spoiled with the affection and wealth that he will share with her. Given your conversations, he seemed to have been of high caliber and had attained good education. Perhaps he could be a suitable suitor for your mistress? You only desired the best for her.
You had introduced him to your mistress and you could tell merely by the way she looked at him, your companion had found the one that would guide her and mold her in to the greatness that she will become. She would be lead by him and be taught to be devoted to this powerful man and hopefully have a suitable family that will treat her with only the best.
Sadly, you were wrong. The debonair man that had talked to you in such a caring and gentle manner was long gone in Cordelia’s presence and only became the cause of her life to spiral in to this debacle she was in. His influence was the opposite of what you had expected of him when it came to caring for her. If you had just knew, you would have interfered. Then your mistress wouldn’t have turned in to this horrible being that she is now. Your “nephews” wouldn’t have been in such shock to harm their mental state. And most certainly but not regretfully, you wouldn’t have been the only proper parental figure of his 6 sons.

self-indulgent pre ‘before everything goes to shit’ headcanons for @kyecupio ! fyi for anyone else reading this: serenity / usagi / cosmos are all the same person in this verse but she refers to herself as ‘usagi’ while she’s living on destiny islands!.
under a cut because this got way longer than i meant it to be!!!!
pre-birth / baby / toddler stuff
her feelings on being pregnant range from, ‘i love this mamo-chan! i love you! i love this baby!’ to ‘i can’t see my feet. why does my back hurt so much!! get this baby out of me FUCK!!!!!!!’
a real conversation that was had between her and mamoru: usagi: *casually refers to the baby as a she* mamoru: wait how do you know it’s a girl? usagi: oh well every serenity had a girl befor- mamoru: um what do you mean by ‘every serenity’? usagi: lol i didn’t i tell you my mother was named that? my grandma and great grandma were too. i also look like my great great grandma and my great great grea- mamoru: *chuckling nervously* what the fuck!!!!!
she 'talks’ to the baby a lot by telling him stories, singing to him, or even occasionally admitting that she’s terrified of not being a good parent oof! she likes to think that him moving / kicking right after she says something is him reacting to what was said. but he’s really just a little shit that kicks / moves a lot especially when she’s trying to sleep!!
she definitely gets cravings for delicacies that only existed on the moon kingdom and mamoru tries his best to recreate it but usagi’s terrible and vague about the ingredients ( b/c chefs and makoto cooked everything ) so it never comes out right but she appreciates his attempts none the less.
idk when his birthday is ( i’ll let kyecupio handle that ) but he definitely comes late / past his due date which drives her insane because she just can’t sit still despite everyone telling her to and it gives mamoru daily heart attacks.
she probably goes into full-on labor at night / during a new moon because hahaahah GET IT NEW. MOON. cause it’s a new moon kingdom heir........ i’m deleting. anyway, a lot of symbolism regarding the new moon is specifically tied to starting over, second chances, new beginnings, etc. which is literally what this baby represents for his parents. this is also a moment where the ‘usagi’ facade drops and ‘serenity’ comes out as she gathers strength from the moon to help her get through the pains of labor ( it wouldn’t be surprising if she kind of just...zones out and enters an almost trance-like state and doesn’t snap out of it until he’s actually out ).
do to the close ties the moon kingdom has with kingdom hearts itself as well as the greek references in kh ( χ-blade ) and in sailor moon, usagi thought of the name archísei but the meaning / significance in its meaning was something both she and mamoru desired in a name for their child.
archísei is the cutest baby!!! he has the chubbiest cheeks, the biggest ears, and is very fussy when he’s not being cuddled by mommy or daddy. and yes, he’s born with the traditional mark of moon royalty: the crescent moon on one’s forehead. it’s hidden away but when they’re alone usagi chooses to reveal it by kissing him on his forehead uwu.
because usagi can’t help her home sickness, his nursery definitely has a slight celestial / moon kingdomish feel to it with white, gold, and other neutral colors + a wall with some constellations or stars on it ( and yes, i looked at baby nurseries for this. let me live!!!!!! ).
this is totally them when he starts screaming at like three in the morning. mamoru can get him to fall back asleep pretty quickly if he’s lucky. with usagi, there’s more work because archísei is spoiled and likes to be sang to before eventually falling asleep, usually to one of these ( both of these, especially tuxedo mirage, are like....aggressively about mamoru but we’re going to ignore that because i like the ‘lullabyness’ of how they sound ).
usagi is tall, around 5′9 / 5′10 ( without heels ), so when he’s not attached to her hip / being carried then archísei is always latched to her legs once he starts learning how to walk.
his terrible twos phase is the absolute WORST. usagi regrets the day he learned how to say no.
childhood stuff
mamoru and usagi are definitely the ‘we’ll fuck you up if you even look at our son the wrong way’ type of parents. even if he were to do something he wasn’t supposed to at school or even goes to far while ‘playfully’ sparring with another kid, they would probably argue in his defense but then lecture him once they’re at home.
( an unpopular opinion but i unapologetically love how snarky / somewhat of a jerk mamoru is in the first season of the 90s anime which is trait that...pretty much disappears after that rip :’(((( - and it’s easily my favorite version of the character. his banter with usagi kills me. ) so going with mamoru’s personality being a mix of manga + season one of classic sm then archísei’s snark definitely comes from him + watching his parents playfully go back and forth with other as usagi can be pretty sassy too ( mamoru taught archísei how to rile her up by calling her bun-head which still makes her throw a fit despite being 30+ years old ).
archísei is a momma’s boy but he definitely admires / looks up to his dad because mamoru is definitely important™ on DI, like a doctor or something because he’s got the smarts. archísei is easily smarter than most, if not all, the kids in his age range ( and probably even the kids older than him too ) so he breezes by in his course work and doesn’t find school interesting. as a result, he would definitely beg his dad to let him skip school and go to work with him and because mamoru is weak, he says yes every single time.
did i say he’s a momma’s boy? he’s definitely a momma’s boy. when he’s a child ( and still too young to stop and question her things ) they did almost everything together. from baking ( and failing at it ), to her teaching him how to do his eyeliner ( this one is completely kyecupio’s ), and he would probably learn to dance from her too. overall they’re just very ‘in-sync’ with each other due to the natural link between them ( similar to her and chib’s connection in canon ). she’s probably the person he loves and idolizes the most which is why it’s going to hurt so much once he learns out that she’s been the one lying and deliberately holding him back all this time.
he doesn’t need help with his homework but usagi and mamoru will sometimes sit down with him anyway - although in usagi’s case, he probably ends up teaching her than the other way around.
a lot of the bed time stories he was told where legends passed down in the moon kingdom or vague stories about other worlds she had been told to as a child.
luna is their cat ( although i’m still debating if it’s moon kingdom luna or just a cat with the same name ). regardless, she’s very protective of him and snuggles with him at night.
pre-teen / things go to shit stuff this section wasn’t supposed to exist but here we are
him entering his pre-teens is when his relationship with his parents, specifically his mother, slowly deteriorates. usagi and mamoru have very different approaches on how to handle their son and his desires to see more outside of DI: usagi wants him to play with other kids / make friends while mamoru feels that if he should be allowed to do things at his own pace because mamoru relates / understands him in ways that she can’t. he was ‘different’ by being the boy who lost his parents / memories and he grew tired of everyone taking pity on him so he just learned to deal with being alone in his own way until he was able to grow and move passed it.
they would definitely have family nights where they would sail to one of the smaller islands to have a small bbq, watch the stars, have fun, etc. these decrease as archísei grows older; he makes up excuses not to attend before eventually not even bothering with doing that.
also that natural link he and his mother have? it’s gone now or more accurately it’s like he’s unknowingly created a barrier around himself that effectively shuts her out. so while she could naturally always faintly ‘feel’ him ( whether it was emotionally or just knowing if he was nearby ),  that’s just not there anymore. it hurts her a lot.
he definitely eventually hears them arguing one night over usagi’s ‘past’ and whether they should tell them to truth. usagi is very ‘nope, not doing that’ despite mamoru trying to convince her otherwise. also if luna is moon kingdom luna then that means the cat that’s been watching over him since he was baby, claiming a dedicated sleeping spot on his bed, and has casually walked with him to school can talk and would probably be on mamoru’s side. archísei vc: you guys have even been lying about the fucking cat too????
when he does finally leave, there’s a....denial about it as they try to convince themselves that maybe he’s just staying late at a friend’s house even though they know he doesn’t have any or maybe he’s camping out on that island he always likes to visit. ‘ we’ll lecture / yell at him about breaking curfew in the morning ’ is what they say but then he’s still not back home in the morning. they check his school and learn he hasn’t been there in over a week so then they start knocking on neighbor’s doors, asking if they’ve seen their son and get no answers. they even check the surrounding islands but he’s still nowhere to be found which is when reality sets in hard. they don’t know if he’s lost at sea, dead, or if usagi’s greatest fear has been realized and he’s somehow managed to leave this world entirely. they just don’t know.
and like not to be cliche but......she loves her son so much and that love can never be replicated or replaced by another so him leaving literally breaks her heart in a way that can’t be fixed ( twil.ight, outside of its soundtracks and leah / rosalie, is not good™ but the song in this scene always...made it weirdly memorable to me and i feel like it’s lyrics accurately sums up how she feels internally - i don’t really see her completely shutting out everyone / just sitting around the house as usagi’s been wearing a mask for a long time and can externally hold it together but would she have sobbing fits at the beach in the middle of the night? yes. ).
also mamoru’s pain over losing his son is important / shouldn’t be brushed over because he literally can’t remember his own parents and has been alone until this strange woman falls, quite literally, into his life. she becomes his new family before giving him a son who he loved so much that he risked sailing the ocean and eventually drowning for because he was so desperate to reach him, to tell him he was sorry for the lies, and that everything would be okay. good god what a DAD.
bonus ‘what if things didn’t suck from the start’ b/c i gotta get this all out my system!
usagi meeting mamoru under less dire circumstances aka she’s free to able to travel to other worlds and casually takes him back to ‘her place’ which just so happens to be a secret kingdom. usagi: haha isn’t it rad!!! mamoru: *chuckling nervously* what the fuck!!!!!
archísei is still ‘different’ but more in that he symbolizes how ‘traveling outside of their home can be good for the MK’s people’ instead of something to be frowned upon.
catch him always in nana serenity’s arms, holding her hand, and them having little picnics together. she also gets him out of trouble from his parents all the time!!!
his aunts / the senshi spoil him so much!!!!! ami ( the nerd ) and setsuna ( the time lord ) are his favorites for obvious reasons but he has unique relationships with all of them - minako and rei probably baby him just as quickly as they would discipline him if they needed to. makoto constantly bakes sweet stuff for him and makes him lunches packed with his favorite food. michiru and haraku are the vodka cool aunts who teach him all about fashion and how to not just look better than everyone else but how to actually be better than everyone else too. he would also probably get along really well with hotaru?? she’s kind of the ‘other’ in the group / not really supposed to exist in a way so maybe they can relate to being different and celebrating that.
he still leaves for scala ad caelum to train but usagi is very dramatic and there’s lots of tears and crying. archísei: mama i’m not even going to be gone that long!!! usagi: b-but!!! *starts sobbing again*
archísei brings eraqus home and mamoru / usagi are just being hella nosy the whole time. mamoru and usagi in union: who dat??? 👀👀👀
there are lots of crying from mom and dad during his coronation / when he eventually succeeds usagi as the moon kingdom’s monarch!!!!
BASICALLY EVERYONE IS A LOT MORE WELL ADJUSTED AND THIS DOESN’T END IN DISASTER GOODBYE.

Other ahoges: Makoto | Komaru | Hajime | Matsuda | Munakata | Kaede
Saihara Loses His Ahoge and Everyone Loses Their Shit
Waking up to a mystery has never been a good morning for Saihara.
When he woke up on that particular day, it had been innocuous at first. He did his usual morning routine of getting ready. It's only when he sees himself in the mirror that he notices the difference. He patted the top of his head. Smooth. That's strange... While he wasn't particularly fond of the ahoge, he doesn't remember ever getting it cut. It's just supposed to be there. Always sticking out. No gel or wax could hold it down. Only his hat was able to tame it but he doesn't wear that anymore.
He's already let go of the hat. What's the harm in losing the ahoge too?
"Um... Who are you?"
Apparently more damaging than he originally thought.
Huh? Huuuuuhh???
"Who the hell brought this normie over here?" Iruma greeted him with an insult. Well, it was pretty tame coming from her. "Oh, I get it! You're one of my fanboys! Sorry to bust your nuts but you ain't touching these glorious tits of mine!"
Never mind. Iruma not recognizing him isn't a huge loss anyways.
"Oh, who is this? A new friend?" Gonta waved at him. "Hello there new friend! Do not be afraid, we are good people!"
Such a good friend he was indeed. What did the world do to deserve Gonta?
"Hold up. I wouldn't start getting cozy with the new guy just yet." Hoshi warned. "It's only ever been us sixteen here. Sorry for being paranoid but getting a new classmate out of nowhere is pretty suspicious. The kid's gotta introduce himself first."
Even though they're basically the same age, Saihara will admit any day that Hoshi holds some form of seniority over him.
"He's been quiet though. Hmm, could it be?" Amami stared at him with an unreadable expression. "You have troubles with memory too?"
No, not memory. He's just utterly speechless at how everyone is treating him all because he doesn't have one lock of hair sticking out.
"Perhaps our guest does not feel welcome enough." Tojo proceeds to correct this situation by pouring him a cup of tea. It's exactly his favorite. "I hope that this is up to your tastes. Please, make yourself comfortable. We only wish to know more about you."
He tries not to cry into his cup of tea. He just wishes to know how his friends see him. Just the ahoge? Guys, his eyes are down here.
"Be careful! He's still a menace!" Tenko was already in a fighting position. "I do not know who you are but I do know that you are a degenerate male! And Tenko will not let you and your impure intentions get to the girls! If you try anything, I will break you!"
He just wants his identity back, please don't break him. He breaks easily.
"Too loud..." Yumeno yawned and then slumped in her seat. "Hey, you being here is a pain so could you get out?"
It's not like he wanted this commotion either. He just went here to have breakfast and he honestly feels so attacked right now.
"No non! Don't go yet. Angie senses a divine aura from you!" Angie clasped her hands in prayer. "It's A-OKAY! If you're feeling lost, come to Atua and he will guide you."
He's not even surprised that he's already getting recruited upon supposedly their first meeting.
"And so adds another person to the number of people I will be observing." Shinguji chuckled lightly while covering is already masked mouth. "Ah, I wonder what kind of human you'd reveal yourself to be, kukuku..."
Okay? Sometimes he really wonders if Shinguji's okay.
"Oh, no. This is a problem." Shirogane settled her chin on her hand, contemplating. "We can't have two plain characters. That's just plain redundant."
Well he knows he doesn't have the most... unique face. But still, the way she says it makes it sound like an actual problem.
"I have checked my database of people whom I've previously met and you did not match with any of the IDs." Kiibo crossed his arms. "Please let us know who you are so I can update my records."
Not to sound robophobic but Saihara expected for at least Kiibo to recognize him. If even the robot's program couldn't identify him then this just confirms his fear that this was beyond his control.
"Hey, buddy you've been quiet. You okay?" Momota smiled reassuringly. "Don't freak out in front of us now. Relax, man. We're a loud bunch but I promise that we won't hurt you."
It's really hard not to freak out when you realize that your whole identity is centered around your ahoge.
"Answer if someone talks to you." Harukawa glared at him. "...Do you want to die?"
Whatever happened to that promise that they wouldn't hurt him?
"Guys, you're freaking the new guy out." Akamatsu "Still, it is kind of weird that you're only showing up now. Oh, it's not like I'm suspicious of you or anything! It's just... weird. Hmm, if only Saihara was here. He probably would have some theories."
But he's right here? Literally guys you don't have to look so hard.
"Has anyone seen him? He's never usually late for breakfast."
"Oh, pick me! Pick me! I toooootally saw him this morning!" Ouma "Hey! Look, it's Saihara-chan!"
Everyone turned their heads away from him and towards where he pointed at. Everyone except Saihara himself.
That's why Saihara saw. He saw Ouma take out Saihara's hat (he had been wondering where that went) and he saw... an ahoge on top of it. He saw Ouma wear it. He also saw Ouma smirk at him.
Ouuuuumaaaaaaaaaaaa!!!!
"Where? I don't see him at all."
"Hey guys! It's me! Totally Saihara-chan" Ouma declared oh so innocently despite his smile being anything but. He didn't even bother changing his voice. Or anything else for that matter. He's just wearing a hat with an ahoge ridiculously glued on top.
He can't possibly think he could pull this off.
"Oh, hey Saihara! Where were you, man?" Momota warmly greeted him.
Okay... But to be fair, Momota isn't the... sharpest so...
"Geez, you had us worry for a bit there. What took you so long?" Akamatsu pouted at him.
Not Akamatsu too?? Shit. This was happening.
"There is something... different about you today, Saihara." Kiibo pondered. "Oh but you match perfectly with my identification scanner so it just might be a slight bug."
How can Ouma wearing a dumb hat with ahoge match Saihara's profile? Is he just an ahoge in his ID?!
"It must be the clothes. I mean it's plain to see that this is Saihara since his signature ahoge is there." Shirogane proudly presented.
So he's really just an ahoge in their eyes. That's... kinda sad okay.
"Nishishi!" Oh, come on! Ouma's even doing his trademark laugh and no one's going to point out that inconsistency? Seriously? No one? "I thought I'd try a new look today! Since I'm always wearing emo clothes, I thought I'd spice things up a bit!"
Okay full offense taken. His clothes are black not emo. It's just a coincidence that it's a common color for emos. Hey, black is a general color, okay? He is not emo.
"It looks suspiciously like Ouma's." Harukawa pointed out. "You have poor taste."
That's all she's going to take away from that? His fashion sense?
"Well I happen to think that Ouma has ridculously good tastes! Supreme leader tastes! Godlike even!"
Please, won't anyone at least point out that Saihara will never in his lifetime praise Ouma.
"Angie doesn't know about that last part. Atua says that Ouma's tastes are just so so." Angie commented.
Again, focusing on the wrong specifics here.
"Ah, but one can argue that since Ouma's talent is being a supreme leader then does it not mean that technically he does possess supreme leader tastes? I admit that it's a mere technicality but it fits logic." Shinguji argued.
Hey so, Saihara isn't the most egocentric person there and he doesn't even like attention but can they get back to him? It's bad enough that they think a barely disguised Ouma is him but to get set aside in conversation too? Just when Saihara thought things couldn't get any sadder, it does.
"Does it really matter? They're both menaces! Changing one's clothes does not change the evil within." Tenko sneered.
He's desperate. He will take any insult as long as it changes the topic.
"Whatever. Can we eat already?" Yumeno huffed in annoyance.
Not really contributing to the conversation but at least it's not about Ouma. His standards have hit an all time low.
"Yes, I will get the food served shortly." Tojo politely bowed. "However, it would seem that Ouma is the one missing now."
Aaaaand we're back to talking about Ouma. The same Ouma who's masquerading in a discount costume of Saihara. The one and only Ouma who's snickering right now.
"Who gives a shit about Cockichi?! If the cock sucker wants to miss out on good food then it's his loss!" Iruma ranted.
While she does make a good point, Saihara hoped that someone would have at least noticed that Ouma only disappeared as soon as "Saihara" appeared. But he knew better now than to hope.
"Oh, no! But what if he starves? Gonta don't want friend hungry." Gonta said with genuine concern.
If Ouma really was a friend then he wouldn't be making Saihara suffer like this.
"Eh, he'll live. If he gets hungry, he knows where the food is." Hoshi shrugged. "Just let him run around as much as he want so we can have some peace here for once."
Except the only flaw in that plan is that Ouma is HERE. He's literally right here. Seriously, is it a detective thing that only Saihara is noticing all these discrepancies?
"That's right. Ignore poor Ouma and let him die a dog's death! Nobody likes him anyways! He's the worst!"
Well he's not wrong... But how can he say that so easily about himself??
"Wait. Something's been bothering me." Amami, who Saihara only noticed to be quiet all this time, suddenly spoke up. He wore the most serious expression ever seen on his face. He walked up to Ouma and placed his hand on the hat. It stayed there, gripped ever so tightly.
Could it be...?
"There." Amami said after twisting the cap just a few degrees. He was back to smiling as if a weight off his chest had been lifted. "I apologize for the glaring. It was crooked and I was debating on letting it be but as you can see I just couldn't stop myself, ahaha."
"Awww, it's okay! Thank you, Amami-chan!" Ouma blew him a flying kiss.
At this point, Saihara would have gladly welcomed death.
"Oh, by the way. I almost forgot!" Ouma suddenly turned to Saihara. Oh no. He's wearing that smile. The smile that never leads up to anything good. That shit-eating grin. Ouma is wearing it at full blast.
Saihara should have run when he had the chance.
"I have a theory on the new guy! He's obviously the mastermind because I said so. Listen. I'm a detective so I know what I'm doing. So let's all gang up on him, okay? Let's go, team!"
...
Fuck.
It was at that moment that Saihara knew he was fucked up.
"Oi, is that true? You think we got ourselves the mastermind, bro?"
"Hmm, Saihara said it so it can't be a lie."
"Let's kill that asshole! I'll fucking cut his dick into pieces!"
"Tenko too will destroy this menace!"
"Please, guys we're more civilized than that."
"Ahaha, let's listen to our leader. Maybe there's still room for negotiations."
"Nyeh, sounds like more work. Can't we just finish him off?"
"...I can kill him quickly but it wouldn't be as satisfying."
"Don't kill him off just yet. We still need information from him."
"It is not a request I haven't heard of... I believe I may be of assistance."
"If you require rope then I would gladly volunteer in tying our culprit up. I have learned of methods where it brings more pain than it does pleasure."
"Oh Gonta does not want to hurt anyone. But Gonta does not like it if this person has hurt friends."
"Well Atua says that this calls for a divine retribution nyahaha!"
"What a plot twist! A mastermind reveal during a filler episode!"
FUCK!
He didn't have to be detective to know that he wasn't going to survive if he stayed there any longer. So he bolted and ran far enough to lock himself in his room. Just outside he could hear his classmates rioting. He knew they weren't allowed to break the door and it seemed that they remembered that rule. He just wishes that Ouma would conveniently forget that he could lockpick doors. Speaking of which, he could hear his distinct laughter bouncing just outside. Atua, if you're out there please spare him.
Saihara already lost his ahoge and consequentially, his identity. He wasn't ready to lose his life too.

Noctis finds out his S/O is a Phantom Thief

Maybe it was a bit of a stretch for you—going this far for school, parading around as some masked marauder, living a double life. You were starting to think that you were doomed from the start.
That was...until you met Noctis Lucis Caelum.
The early morning bustle is not an easy thing for a sleepyhead like Noctis. He can barely pull himself out of bed before the twenty-minute mark hits and has to forcefully drag himself into the bathroom for an ice cold shower to finally get those blue eyes open.
After that is a sloppy schedule of pulling on his uniform, wrestling with his tie, grabbing whatever Iggy left as breakfast, and snatching his phone to send you a good morning text. Sometime during this scuffle, he turns on the radio and puts the volume at full blast, thankful for the soundproof walls as he’s listening to half a thought.
Just as he scrolls through the many selfies you send him during your morning commute, a small smile creeps onto his face unconsciously. His blue eyes gaze up at the clock for a mere second, and he curses, nearly falling out of his chair. He’s going to be late. Noctis jumps to his feet, grabbing his book bag, and tries to collect every stray book that he litters around the kitchen table and over the couches.
“And now we have to interrupt your music for the morning news. The hacker group Medjed has sent yet another message to the Phantom Thieves late last week, and yet they continue to keep their silence. The--”
Noctis shuts off the radio with a sigh as he puts on his shoes and makes it out the door. As he gives one last wave to the guard standing outside his door, his hand falls back inside his pants pocket and he begins his walk to school.
“Hey.”
“Hey yourself,” Noctis answers, and even though his voice has the same airy, flat tone, as usual, you can practically hear his smile. “How was school today? Did something bad happen?”
“Why did you suddenly jump to negative thoughts?” you ask, your voice lifting in questioning. You laugh, “Are you getting influenced by those council guys your father hangs around?” Makoto tugs on your arm unexpectedly when the pedestrian light turns green, and you’re forced to take your attention off your phone for a second.
“Hell no,” he says, and you can hear his voice lift as well. “But...Some girls were talking about the Phantom Thieves during school today...”
“Phantom Thieves?” Your eyes grow wide and you mentally berated yourself for pausing so suspiciously. He never brings up the Phantom Thieves, not even when the name comes up on the radio. The thought makes you grip your phone tighter and your stomach churn.
“Yeah, you must be tired of hearing about them too, but then your school’s name came up—”
“You mean the whole thing about Madarame?” you asked. You shook your head. “That happened ages ago, and I’m fine, he never touched me.” Unless being beat like a drum by his Shadow counted as touching, but you were sure that Noctis was thinking of something else.
He lets out a sigh that sounded like a puff of air. “I’m glad. Are you coming over later?”
You stop in your tracks. The realization finally hits you. “C-Coming over?”
You can feel Noctis pause and press his lips together. He replies, but in a voice that is much more restrained than before. “Yeah,” he almost sighs. “It’s Friday, so I thought—”
“Oh my god, Noctis—I, uh, I completely forgot. Something came up. I have to study with my friends this weekend,” you quickly say. Your heart dropped when he sighed over the phone, as if he was expecting that answer. To think that you were too caught up with the whole Medjed and Alibaba thing that you forgot all about your plans with Noctis.
“I have to go,” Noctis says. “I’ll talk to you later.”
You wince pitifully when you hear the dial tone on your phone, and you let out a loud sigh that you didn’t know that you were holding in. You push open the door to Leblanc and listened halfheartedly as the little bell above the door dinged.
“Hi guys...” you say as you walk through the door, greeting the other half of the Phantom Thieves.
“Is something wrong, [Name]?” Makoto asks as you walk past her. You make your way to the table as Morgana leaps on top of it.
“Was that just the prince you were talking to right now?” the cat said excitably.
Ryuji nearly falls from his feet on the table position. “No way—the prince?! I thought you were just joking about that!”
“Oooh,” Ann coos from her side of the table as you sit down. “What did he say?”
Instead of gushing about your boyfriend, you give her a solemn look and you shake your head.
“...I hate lying to him,” you quietly admit, staring at your phone. “I mean I can handle the whole Shadows thing—I just...hate the lies.” You slowly slide down until your face hits the wooden table.
Yusuke’s voice speaks up from beside you. He looks over his sketchbook. “Are you having relationship trouble? Maybe it is best if you just tell him the truth.”
“Tell Noctis the truth?” You lift your head up, and stare at the blue-haired artist incredulously. You then turn to Akira, the Thieves’ leader.
“Can I?” Your voice was full of disbelief, but there was that lining of hope.
Your glasses-wearing leader pauses for a second, debating on the answer. He stands against the counter, half propping his hips on the bar stool and half resting his weight on his right leg. The Thieves wait in silence for his answer.
“I don’t think that’s a good idea,” he finally says, his voice soft. Your hope dispels out of you like a deflated balloon.
“You’re not serious, right?” Ryuji speaks up beside him. Morgana yells out a response that was on the same wavelength as the two. You huff and knit your eyebrows at your friend’s answers. Makoto puts a reassuring hand on your shoulder to ease your tension.
“I understand that it must be hard on your relationship right now, and if he were any other person, we would’ve let him in on our secret, but…because he’s the prince, it’s too risky. You can’t let him know. I’m sorry, [Name],” she says softly. You shake your head.
“No, it’s fine. I was silly thinking that was even an option.” You sit up straight and give your full attention to the meeting. Everyone stares at you with an unreadable expression. “We came here for a reason, right? What’s our next move?”
“Trouble in paradise?” Prompto asks, leaning over from his arcade game as Noctis suddenly hangs up on your phone call.
“...She canceled on me.” Again. That part didn't even need to be said.
Prompto frowns when he sees his best friend’s downcast expression. He swings an arm over Noct’s shoulders, nearly knocking the prince over. “Come on now! I’m sure something important came up! Let’s go, I’ll buy you dinner, my treat.”
Noctis lets out a small smile at Prompto’s attempts to liven his spirits. “You’ll buy me dinner?” he asks, his voice teasing.
Prompto falters slightly. “Well...Keep it within my budget, would ya?”
Your relationship with the prince was an unexpected one, and yet that didn’t change the fact that you two were completely smitten with each other.
It was easy at first, and despite being mostly long distance, the two of you kept your relationship healthy with numerous texts, calls, and weekend dates when your schedules were both free.
However, as the Phantom Thieves became more popular—Oh, he needs to be stopped, she needs to be saved, he needs a change of heart—you suddenly feel yourself being pulled both ways as you try to juggle dating the prince of Lucis and your obligations with the Phantom Thieves.
You were a Phantom Thief before you were a girlfriend, so you feel like your duty with them is just on the other side of the same coin that held Noct’s responsibility to the throne. Yet it seems like you are the only one canceling dates to scope out Palaces, Mementos, and stopping corruption.
At the same time, Noctis felt tired.
As the days went by, the times that he saw you became rarer. It was either this came up, or that came up. You had a study session, you had to watch your friend’s cat, your friends needed you. He couldn’t stop that inkling dread that seeps through his skin—That you’re bored of him. The idea that you might enjoy your friends’ presence more than his.
Now there’s nothing wrong with that. He understands full well that when you two are dating he would still like to be with Prompto, so it was only right that you got to enjoy the same.
Yet, he couldn’t help but feel inferior to them. This sense of insecurity and jealousy ate away at him. He wasn’t a model like the blonde girl you hang out with, nor was he the student council president, an artist, an athlete, or a natural-born leader like how you often gushed about your friends to him.
Other than being a prince...he didn’t have much going for him. And even then, he heard you call one of your friends “Queen” once, and if that didn’t send a jolt of childish jealousy through him—You rarely called him “Prince,” and wouldn’t it make more sense if you called him King anyway?
It really did look like your love for your friends overshadowed your love for him.
It seems like being a masked marauder was really straining your relationship after all.
But despite your promises to yourself, you couldn’t make the date after that, or the date after that. Futaba’s Palace took control of the threshold of your mind, and for the next couple of weeks you were rescheduling, apologizing, and exhausted. You tried your best to juggle your relationship and being a Phantom Thief, and you even asked Akira multiple times to—
“Let’s not do that today. I, umm, I have a date with my boyfriend.”
Which made you cringe internally every time because of how much of a lovesick teenager you sounded like. Yet it seems like it is never enough.
Little spats between you and Noctis escalated to blown out fights, much like the one you were locked in now.
The two of you were standing in his apartment’s kitchen, ten meters of space wedged between the two of you. The two of you were yelling until you went hoarse, and you can tell that you both were getting frustrated with each other.
“And for the last time, it has nothing to do with that! That’s what I keep on saying! If you don’t listen to reason then maybe I—maybe I...! Shit!” you shout, slamming your hand down on his countertop. You lift your eyes, brimming with fire as you stared at your boyfriend.
Noctis was never good at expressing himself, and it frustrated you to no end, knowing that he was backing you against a corner like this. What do you do? Keep lying to him?
It was late at night, and the group had given you the Saturday off to go back to Insomnia by metro before having to return the very next day to further discuss Futaba’s Palace. The deeper you went into the pyramid, the stronger the Shadows became, and you were tired, and your emotions jumped inside you like an active ball pit. Yet this proved to be nothing more than an arguing fest, a volley of going back and forth with harsh quips at the other.
It is difficult going to school and having to hightail your way to Insomnia just to see your boyfriend for a couple hours after you’ve been sitting idle for who knows how many hours. Or you have the Metaverse to go to, but can barely keep your eyes awake after that.
Noctis furrows his eyebrows, and his voice is gravely with all of the emotions spent tonight. You closed your eyes in tiredness and sighed softly, waiting for his next words before you set off a barrage of your own, and start it over again—
“I’m jealous,” he finally admits, his voice raw, yet soft. “I’m really jealous of your friends. I’m jealous of the way you care for them more than you do for me, and no matter what I do...I’m never your number one.”
That makes you stop. As reserved of a man Noctis is, at this young age, his expression is as clear as day on his face. His lips are turned down, his blue eyes downcast, his eyebrows furrowed. He looks pained.
You’re taken aback. Noctis shouts, he pushes blame, but above all, he avoids the truth. That’s all he ever does. He averts the topic of his ailing father, and doesn’t listen to logic, and he definitely doesn't come clean about his quelling emotions.
He sees your shocked face, and that anger has returned in the moment of your hesitation.
“There!” he shouts. “Are you happy?!” You give no answer, and he a frustrated sound exits from the back of his throat. He takes one of the black couch pillows and chucks it against the far wall. Some glass shatters, but you can’t bring yourself to care.
“Oh, Noctis...” you whisper. He’s still breathing heavy, eyes lit with a fire that almost tints his eyes red. You slowly make your way to him and you wrap your arms around his torso without hesitation. You can feel the stiffness of his muscles melt underneath you before he relaxes against your touch, and brings his arms around you to return the hug.
“I’m sorry,” you say softly, “I didn’t mean to make you feel that way.” The realization of everything hits you. The fact that you couldn’t keep on pushing Noctis’ feelings aside for a cause that he doesn’t even know you partake in. Everything you do seems to be everything his insecurities lay out, and this makes your heart heavy at the thought.
The two of you sway slightly, your former frustration forgotten. It’s hard to be mad when you’re both doing something tender like this.
“Let me make it up to you.” You lift your eyes up to stare right into his. “I’ll spend an entire weekend with you. Friday night to Sunday night.”
Noctis doesn’t answer for a while. He simply averts his eyes and pulls you in for a tighter hug. You smile in content when he buries his face into the crook of your neck.
“Promise?” he asks, voice muffled. Your smile grows wider, he almost sounds like a kid.
You hum. “Promise.”
It takes a while to convince your friends that you’ll be out the entire weekend, but you all eventually agree on working twice as hard to get the Palace over with Sunday night, and hopefully finish it in time for August 21st.
So here you were now, getting ready in Noct’s bathroom on a Friday night as he lazes around in bed.
The prince is watching TV, yet that doesn’t muffle the sound of your phone chiming, notifying him that someone had just sent a text through.
The Phantom Thieves type in rapid succession. It’s nothing but one after the other with these guys at top speed, so by the time Noctis manages to roll over on his king-sized bed to glance at your phone on the nightstand, your friends have already gone through multiple messages, before finally landing on the one that makes his heart drop to his stomach.
[Name], you need to come over now.
His stomach is churning like a fortuneteller’s ball, and he keeps on glancing behind him to see if you’re still in the bathroom, or if the shower is still running. The prince feels frustrated beyond belief, out of all the times that you two had a date, your friends had to intrude during this one.
His mind is spinning, and his palms feel sweaty from the bad idea that crossed his mind. He reaches out for your phone, and immediately dropped it on the bed right after, as if it was going to burn him. He quickly turns again to check on the bathroom door.
He can’t let you see this, and have you run off with your friends again.
No, this is wrong, Noctis shouldn’t be doing this. Hell, he shouldn’t have looked at your phone anyway because he respects your privacy and trusts you, but before he can fully stop himself, his fingers are already unlocking your screen and typing out the message, “I can’t make it, I don’t feel so well.” He doesn’t even read the past messages, and instead lets his rationality be thrown out the window as these incoherent feelings take over.
He hears the shower shut off, and his heart starts speeding up double time. Noctis quickly shuts off your phone without waiting for your friends to reply and plugs it in the charger.
You walk out of the bathroom not a second later, fully changed, and you leap on the bed to give your prince a tackle. He catches you and the two of you laugh together, the ice of your skin cooling the heat of his nervous body.
In less than an hour, Noctis forgets all about his guilt.
Teenage recklessness is a bad thing.
You let out a loud exhale as you slide down the wall and collapse near Ryuji and Akira. The sound of volleyball could still be heard echoing around the gym even as you close your eyes and drift off.
It was the Monday after your date with Noctis, and while you were content with it and the time you spent with him, there was something off that you couldn’t put your finger on.
At the sound of the PE teacher’s whistle, you opened your eyes again and turned to your two teammates.
“Hey guys—” You stopped midway and your eyes widened. “Oh my gosh, you look horrible!” The words tumbled out of your mouth before you could apply a filter. But there was no space for over exaggeration either. Deep and dark eye bags, messy hair, chapped lips mar their features.
Ryuji clicks his tongue loudly. “Yeah! No thanks to you!” he says. He’s about to say more, but then a loud yawn that could snap his jaws stops him.
You raise your eyebrow at what he says.
Akira huffs softly. “How was your weekend?” he asks, moving you away from Ryuji’s flames. You tilt your head.
“It was great,” you admit honestly. “I got to spend a lot of time with Noctis.”
“Huh?” Ryuji’s eyes snap open at your response. “You said you weren’t feeling well!”
You’re hit with confusion. “I...did?”
“Yeah!” the blond athlete says. “Apparently we underestimated Futaba’s palace or somethin’ and there was no way that we could’ve finished everything up in time for August 21st. That’s why we spent all weekend clearing the place.” Ryuji lets out another loud yawn. “We only had nine hours of sleep in the last three days...”
“You fought the shadow?” you ask, then without missing a beat, you continued. “You cleared the palace without me? You spent all weekend doing it?”
“Getting past the shadows this time was a lot harder without that sneaky little trick that you use on them all the time,” the blond says.
“And you didn’t tell me, because...?” You’re feeling slightly insulted at this point. Did they think that you aren’t capable?
“You said you weren’t feeling well,” Akira speaks up. You give him a confused look.
“When have I ever—?”
“Huh?” It’s Ryuji’s turn to raise his eyebrow. “You don’t remember or something?” He pulls his phone out of his pocket and opens up the group chat. “See? Here.”
Instead of getting the answer that you needed, you only became more confused. You leaned closer to the screen and snatched it out of Ryuji’s hand. You look closer as you tapped on your message and it clearly displays the time.
You swallow and clench the phone in your hands in a tight grip.
Noctis.
The door to his apartment slammed open, keys thrown onto the shelf beside it, and shoes kicked off in a flurry.
“Why?” you demand, stomping closer to your prince. “Why, why, why?” Noctis sits up on the couch. His face flashes with fear and confusion. You grab his shirt collar and pull him close. “Why did you do that?!”
You look betrayed, angry, but he looks bewildered, innocent.
“Why what?” he asks.
“Why did you text my friends?!” you demand. Your hand is gripping your phone and you keep it in a locked hold.
Oh.
Noctis looks down and averts your eyes. You press your lips together and breathe out your nose.
“That’s a serious thing, Noct! I can’t believe you did that! Do you even trust me?!” you rant. “I don’t think I can be around you anymore if you’re going to do this again—!”
“Go then!” he finally says. Your gasp gets caught in your throat. His voice rings into silence, and you have to take an unsteady step back. His face contorts into an unreadable expression. He glares at his carpeted floors. “If that’s what you mean then...!”
“That’s not what I meant and you know it!” you say, trying to keep your shaky voice to a minimum. “You don’t know—!”
“Know what? That you care more about your friends than you do about me—?!”
“That I’m a Phantom Thief, Noctis!”
“...What?” his voice came out as barely a whisper.
...Shit.
