Hey everyone! Just popping in to share some new artwork with you all. Evan Buckley is canonically bisexual, and even though I've been on a bit of a media and art break, I had to come back to celebrate this momentous occasion. Seriously, my brain won't stop shouting 'Buck is bi!' on repeat. So, without further ado, here's a cute bi!Buck sticker design. I couldn't decide which version I liked more, so I'm sharing both with you. Sending lots of love your way. Bye for now!

"Forever in Space"
On January 8, 2024 an American moon lander Peregrine was launched into space, it was supposed to reach the moon’s surface. Besides scientific equipment on board Peregrine was biomatter (DNA and human remains) of 70 people, among them were those of the first “Star Trek” series’ actors. It was the creator of “Star Trek” Gene Roddenbury, along with his wife Majel Barrett who played nurse Chapel, as well as actors Nichelle Nichols, James Doohan and DeForest Kelley, who played Lt Uhura, Chief Engineer Scott and Dr McCoy respectively. Even though the mission wasn’t successful and the lander didn’t reach the moon, one could say that the actors and the creator of the series stayed in space forever.
With my great love❤️

Mini Nurse Chapel sketch I drew in the note space of June 14th in my 2023 diary.
Even though I watched “Star Trek TOS - S01E07: What Are Little Girls Made Of?” In June last year, I only drew this over the last week (as usual).
Anyway, it’s one of my favourite episodes, and is (unfortunately) the only one where Nurse Chapel plays a significant part.
Drawn with Lyra colouring pencils.
WIP pics and references below cut.
Please don’t use or post on other websites without credit or permission, thanks 🙏
I hate drawing in colour, especially skin tones 🥲 but this one didn’t come out too bad (I can get away with it not being 100% accurate because she’s so small 🤫)

I always try to write the episode title in the colours I associate with that particular episode, so I tried to make them similar to Ruk’s colour scheme.

Star Trek Day 2023: The Naked Time
This wasn't finished in time for Star Trek day so I posted an old favourite on the day but I finished the project and then forgot to post it here :D So, working through my classic Trek episodes I realised that I hadn't done anything from 'The Naked Time', which is one of my favourite episodes. Plenty of great scenes in this but I chose the Spock / Christine moment.
Full details can be found on my DA page here: https://www.deviantart.com/starfire-productions

Yesterday, I shared a cute bi!Buck rainbow sticker design, and today, I'm back with another treat!
I know we're all buzzing with excitement about Buck's bisexuality confirmation and that Buck/Tommy kiss, but I'm 100% for buddie endgame and after drawing that rainbow design for Buck, I couldn't resist creating a rainbow sticker with both Buck and Eddie.
So here it is, hope you all enjoy it as much as I did creating it!

James Brolin and Richard Benjamin in Westworld (Michael Crichton, 1973)
Cast: Yul Brynner, Richard Benjamin, James Brolin, Norman Bartold, Alan Oppenheimer, Victoria Shaw, Dick Van Patten, Linda Gaye Scott, Steve Franken, Michael T. Mikler, Terry Wilson, Majel Barrett, Anne Randall. Screenplay: Michael Crichton. Cinematography: Gene Polito. Art direction: Herman A. Blumenthal. Film editing: David Bretherton. Music: Fred Karlin.
Today, Michael Crichton's film Westworld is probably best known for inspiring the HBO series of the same name. Viewing both of them is a study in the anxieties of two eras almost 50 years apart. The 1973 film takes place in a futuristic amusement park in which the guests indulge their fantasies by encountering androids playing figures from the past and mostly either killing them or having sex with them. So does the series, which ran from 2016 to 2022. In both the movie and the series, things go seriously awry, with the androids killing or maiming their human guests. Especially in comparison with the series' handsomely realized vision of the future, its exploration of the creation of the androids, and its portrayal of the corporate intrigue behind the scenes of the park, Crichton's movie looks antique: the special effects are clunky, the characterization and acting are routine, and some of the action scenes are unconvincing. But the chief difference between the movie and the series lies in their understanding of the causes of the park's disaster. In the movie, the cause is said to be malfunctioning technology, an undetected glitch in the machinery. But in the series the cause lies deeper: The androids develop consciousness, a self-awareness that causes them to rebel against their human makers. To put it in other words, in the 1970s we were concerned about the problem of increasing dependence on fallible technology. In the 21st century, we're worried about technology becoming too good, about artificial intelligence outstripping human intelligence. The fallibility is not in the machines but in ourselves. But to be fair, Crichton showed a sign of our concern about AI, specifically the potential for cybernetic beings to self-replicate and evolve on their own. An engineer in the movie notes that the androids are "almost as complicated as living organisms. In some cases, they have been designed by other computers. We don't know exactly how they work."

MISCELLANEOUS THOUGHTS ;
Tumblr media
una's quarters and office are both ruthlessly spartan. she does not display personal items, pictures, etc. ( with, perhaps, the exception of a few things gifted to her by friends. ) to her the simplicity is very comfortable, but to others it is very impersonal.
she has never learned to swim.
illyrians do not keep animals as pets, and so una does not understand the allure of pets ( including pike's horses ).
una is fiercely loyal, but her loyalty doesn't come down to doing what someone wants: it comes down to doing what someone needs.
una absolutely does things just to prove that she can, but she's always proving it to herself, not to anyone else.
very, very rarely una will play practical jokes on her closest friends. they are always subtle and sometimes elaborate and often prompted by her getting annoyed. she will absolutely deny having had anything to do with it. this is definitely not how the comment about pike being a boy scout made it into his file. ( it's definitely how that made it into his file ).
her version of r&r is things that most people would call "work": reading up on newest research in various areas, studying new technical manuals for upgrades that might be installed on enterprise, or reprogramming ship's systems. if she actually takes shore leave, she is most likely to spend her time exploring, and learning about and experiencing the local arts.
una hands down always has her nails painted colors that are probably not in accordance with starfleet dress codes. she doesn't care and no one dares to call her out on it. ( thank you, majel, for that impeccable blue nail polish )
you will practically never see una out of uniform, but when she is, she gravitates towards single colors, primarily blacks and whites, along with very pastel colors so light as to be nearly off white ( especially blues & purples ). sometimes, she ornaments with colored scarves.
if she fixates on correcting tiny details rather than dealing with an actual significant issue at hand (especially if said issue is in any way emotional), it is 100% a tell that she's deliberately trying to avoid something or sidestep a conversation.

as of now the AIs are little more than the automatons of old. not quite a scam, like the Mechanical Turk was, certainly an impressive accomplishment like Maillardet’s automaton, but nowhere near anything that sci-fi writers have dreamt of for decades when they wrote Do Androids Dream of Electric Sheep or Star Treks Measure of Man. If anything it’s comparable to the seemingly all-knowing space ship computer voiced by Majel Barret. Certainly the trope of arguing with a replicator about the specifics of how hot your tea should be hit a lot closer now.
The art I’ve seen so far feels stale, tbh. I do not understand why some of them got awards when it’s often full of technical errors, and even if not, never reaches beyond the aesthetically pleasing. I have yet to see something made by an AI that disturbs, that shakes you to the core, that you have to contemplate about. Where is the anguish, the pleasure, the obscene, the visceral, where is the coherence? All I’ve seen is the illusion of a feeling. there is no confusion or understanding in what an AI does, and that shows. We won’t have to actually deal with wether or not AIs should have human rights for quite a while. I think what would need to happen for that would be something so new and strange it would also reshape our understanding of our own personhood. it would be as world view changing as Charles Darwin publishing On The Origin of Species, and just as controversial in  its time. Until then we should focus on giving rights to people who are actually there. Same for awards. You don’t order a latte from a fully automated coffee machine and hand that in to a barista contest.
