He exhaled a sigh through his nose, refusing to look away from the manuscript in his hands.

Maiele smiled sweetly, resting his chin in his palm as he leaned forward with his elbow propped on the table. He adored watching Tyril read—the subtle pull on his features when knowledge was particularly inspiring, the way his eyes widened, letting the dim lights of the library twinkle in his eyes.

Tyril's gaze flickered up, just for a moment. He attempted to avert his eyes quickly, but he had still caught Maiele's alluring attention. Focusing on the text was nearly impossible for the elf now. After a series of growing and unrelenting frustrated sighs, Tyril finally turned back to Maiele, a stern look on his face.

"Can I help you?" Maiele questioned, his yellow eyes glowing with admiration.

"You need to stop," Tyril grumbled.

"Stop what?"

"You know!"

"If I knew what you were talking about, I would not have asked the question."

"You're being distracting."

"I haven't said a word since I sat down," Maiele stated proudly, his brow rising. "Actually, you know you're impressed by that!" 

"That fact does not alter my previous statement," Tyril insisted, his gaze falling to Maile's all too kissable lips—too close to focus and yet, still too far away. He drifted closer to Maiele, forgetting himself. The book in his hands fell from his grasp, pulling him from the trance that had overtaken him. "See what I mean?"

"Oh, don't worry. I see what you need."

"Good." Tyril attempted to recompose himself, clearing his throat. He reached to gather the book but was blocked by Maiele's hand, holding it to the table. "What are you doing?"

Maiele's hands moved to cup Tyril's jaw, drawing him closer. "That's not what you need—" His lips brushed softly over Tyrils, kissing him lightly, but leaving him absolutely breathless.

I am so so sorry for the delay, there were more technical difficulties than I anticipated. I wanted to try something different for this event by making a lil mini-video edit based on an older TikTok trend along with a moodboard lol. Hope you like it!

What I knew about Maiele and Tyril mostly came from Dani's fics with Daenarya and Mal, but it was so much fun learning more about Maiele and Tyril from your blog since they're such a power couple!! I love that you chose this elf sprite specifically they're so underrated yet live up to the ethereal Nightbloom name <3 I'm so jealous of Maiele's sense of fashion too omg. He seems like a super charming and likable elf to be around and I can't wait to get to know him more!

Each month CFWC highlights one of our talented fanfic writers, and this month’s writer of the month is @lilyoffandoms. We hope you will enjoy learning more about them and their work below! The writer is selected at random. More info can be found on the navigation page.

This month's Writer of the Month was selected a little differently than normal. We announced that we would be selecting the WOTM from the participants in last month's Writer Appreciation Event. But the eleven writers involved all agreed the honor belonged to Lily. Lily has been a staple in the Choices community for so long, and they continuously go out of their way to support creators and spread positivity while continuing to inspire and create themselves. We couldn't think of anyone better suited for the honor, so please join us in congratulating Lily... September's Writer of the Month!

How do you want to be known on Tumblr? Lily is fine (they/them preferred)

1- When did you start playing Choices? What was the first book you played? 

Best guess would be back in January of 2018. It was a joke at first since a friend saw one of their god-awful ads and said we should both try it. Next thing you know, we were both arguing over which books were better and regretting our decision to start. Though their opinions on what constitutes good books are almost as bad as the Choices ad that got us to jokingly play (and I say this most lovingly because they are awesome and I love them). I started with Most Wanted, and my friend started with The Freshman. 

2- When and why did you join Choices fandom?

Oh gods! I joined back in March 2019. I know I’m a Tumblr baby by most everyone’s standards, but that feels like a really long time. I joined when Open Heart book one was released. I had lurked, reading fanfics, for a few months before biting the bullet and creating a blog and actually posting. Only joined because I was taking my editor’s advice and writing something entirely outside my norm to break a particularly bad case of writer’s block. Thought I might as well share those silly things if I was taking the time to write them. Maybe someone would enjoy them. Never did plan on sticking around, but found so many lovely people that I’ve come to call friends.

3- How did you pick your blog name? 

It was lilyofchoices. My name + Choices because I am super creative like that with those sorts of naming things 😅 I changed it to lilyoffandoms when I left the Choices fandom for a bit. I’ve thought about changing it more times than I can count but I can’t bring myself to actually follow through on it. How do y’all’s change your blog name with each new book release? You are a crazy different breed of tumblr and you fascinate me.

4- Pull up the first post in your archive, and tell us about it!  

I deleted the first one years ago. It was my first drabble. Currently, as it stands, the first thing in my archive is this post about Desire and Decorum, and it still makes me giggle.

5- How long have you been writing fanfiction?

I’ve only been writing fanfic since I joined Tumblr. I never really tried writing fanfic before that. Some nonfiction personal things before that but never anything like this world. It's been an adventure, to say the least haha

6- What is your favorite Choices book, and what is your favorite Choices book to write about?

My favorite book is probably Blades of Light and Shadow, book one, but there are plenty that are really close behind. This is also the book I’d say I enjoy writing for the most because it is my favorite book, contains my favorite LI, and has one of my favorite OCs (Maiele) in it.

Though recently, I’ve been writing more for Crimes of Passion because it's more of a challenge for me. It's a different vibe between the MC and the LI and it's one I don’t often explore so I’m here for that right now. But I have a sneaky suspicion once Blades 2 drops I’ll be back on my bullshit with that again.

7- Share the first fanfic you wrote with us. Do you still like it, or would you change it if you were writing it today?

I don’t think it exists on this site anymore. Maybe in someone’s reblog? I still have it in my files. It was an Ethan x MC drabble featuring my MC, Merida. I still like it. I’d not change it cuz I’m a firm believer in writing it and don’t look back haha.

This is it:

He swallowed the lump forming in his throat, trying to hold back the tears that were threatening to form in his eyes. There it was. He had told her. Dr. Banerji was dying and Ethan was at a loss as to what was ailing his mentor and friend. Ethan stared at the young woman in front of him and then to the floor. He cleared his throat and made a small motion to turn back into Naveen’s room but froze instantly the moment he noticed her take a step towards him.

She threw her arms around him and hugged him, wishing to take away all of his pain, all of his loneliness. Silently willing him to understand that she cared for him. Cared deeply for him and much more than she should. “Ethan. I’m so sorry,” she whispered, one hand stroked through his hair while the other grasped his neck and slowly bent his head toward her shoulders as she raised herself to her tiptoes to meet him halfway.

He tensed upon feeling her arms around him. Arms, he thought to himself, that he had imagined holding him for a number of weeks now. Ever since that night spent sitting up with her watching little baby Ethan. “Merida,” he sighed as he gradually relaxed into the embrace.

She didn’t let up on the hug, squeezing him to her just a bit more tightly. God, she had wanted to comfort him when Dolores died but she didn’t know how he would respond. Now, he was facing the possibility of another friend dying and she couldn’t help herself.

He responded to the increased pressure of her hug and tightened his own hold upon her. Finding himself tracing circles up her spine and imagining what it would feel like to move his hands to tease along the skin of her back where her pants met her shirt.

Her breath caught when she felt his hands move lower. No longer making gentle movements along her spine but increasing their pressure upon her body, nearly massaging their way lower. She brought one of her own hands around to his chest, lightly bunching his white coat in her fist to try and pull him closer to her.

A loud crash echoed down the hall. “Shit!” a construction worker cursed. The two doctors jumped back from each other both staring into each other’s eyes seeming to question if they had both felt the same in the other’s arms. She blushed slightly. “I should see to my other patients. Dr. Banerji’s condition stays between us. Understand, Rookie?” he stated, his eyes narrowing. She nodded and he turned and marched down the hall.

8- What is your favorite fic that you’ve written?

I love asking this question of others but don’t like it asked of me. I’m so bad at self-rep and advertising my wares 😂 But if I had to pick one, I’d say this one. It was so far outside my comfort zone when it came to writing that I almost abandoned it two paragraphs in. But I’m a stubborn person, and I refused to let it beat me. Plus, I had been wanting to write a noir fic for this book since it was released. Furthermore, I adore Hayden’s work too much not to gift a little something back for all the art he shares with us, so I knew I just had to make it work.

9- Do you have a fic that you didn’t expect to be well received, but it was? What about one you expected to be but found could use a little more love?

I didn’t expect last year’s Luck of the Draw fic to garner much love. Attention? Maybe. But not love and definitely not the response I got. I really enjoyed writing that one. 

10- If you could write only angst, fluff, or smut for the rest of your writing life, which would it be and why? 

Fluff. I’m a sucker for happy-ever-afters and an endless hopeless romantic. Give me the fluff. All the fluff. 

I pull a lot of what I toss into my silly drabbles from real life. Always been a believer in writing, most often what you know, and sprinkle that all with a dash of the stuff you don’t as a treat. And my life is pretty fluffy thanks to my incredible partner. 

However, I do so adore angst I’m just not able to write it often because it hurts more to write. But I’ll always always read it. That pain is *chef’s kisses*

11- Do you ever recognize yourself in any of your MCs or in your writing?

Maiele, my Blades MC, is most definitely me coded. His whole personality, his choice of partner when it comes to personality, his constant flirting with said partner, his sense of humor, his lack of a filter most times, it’s all pretty much me. Gabriel, my CoP MC, is me when it comes to romantic gestures and Valentine’s Day. I may be a romantic, but I get weird when it’s aimed at me 😂 

12- What element of writing do you struggle with most?

Editing. I refuse to do it. I hate it with the burning light of a thousand suns. Those of you that manage to edit your fics have all my admiration. I honestly don’t know how y’all do it. Doesn’t it just bore you to no end? 

13- Do you have any neglected work you really want to finish?

I have more drafts than I care to admit. I would like to complete a series I started long ago for Ethan x Merida, but I don’t know if I’ll ever do that. I’d settle for finishing one of my drafts 😅

14- If someone you know in real life (who isn’t involved in fandoms) asked to read your work, would you let them? If yes, what would you recommend they read first? 

Nope, haha, I’d not be able to do that. If I were that brave, I’d recommend this one maybe. I do so love Flynn. Or this one, mostly because I do so love the idea of Gabriel just pouting on the couch.

15 - Are there any writers (published authors and/or fanfic writers) who influenced your writing?

Not really. I mean all of em probably. I read a lot of books in a lot of genres. Mostly I use my drabbles as morning warm ups for my day job. 

There are definitely fanfic writers I admire around here that encourage me to share my silly things everyday. Especially all those queer writers out there that have a rather thankless existence sometimes around here but keep sharing their stories! They are all my heroes!!

16- Which one of your stories would you most like to see as a movie/series? 

Any and all of my Maiele and Tyril stories. I just love them sooooo much!!

17- Do you write original fiction? 

Yes, but until recently, I wrote mostly nonfiction.

I do have a fic I began a few years back when I was still teaching. I had a student who hated their writing class, so I promised to write a short story alongside them and read it to the class like all the students had to if they gave it an honest go. 

They did and so I did too, and I was asked the following year to do it again by more students and so I continued the same story. I’ve since continued that same fic, and maybe someday I’ll actually go looking to publish it. 

18 -  What other hobbies do you have?

I love the outdoors. Hiking, spelunking, kayaking, gardening, camping, anything and everything outdoors. My other favorite hobby, which I've done for years and years, is fencing. I still am part of a club and teach a few levels. 

19 - What’s your favorite emoji? 

😅 because it’s legit my state of existence at this point in life.

countdown to 2024 ~ writers edition

Okay yes, 2024 is here, I am so late to this, but I hope I'm not too late to this! Anyway, 3 writers.. Once again, it kind of sucks to choose only 3, so I'm going to break seventeen laws once again. @choicesfandomappreciation

Arguably yes, I have to catch up with some of your guys's wonderful writing and I will! That's a resolution lol, I promise. 2024, year of reading - let's do it.

@jerzwriter : I'll never stop talking about Elsa's writing because it reads like how you'd expect a movie script to sound like. It's full of realistic scenarios, quippy witty dialogues (did I mention she's like, so freaking amazing with dialogues??) and the way she portrays a scene with just interactions between characters is nothing short of an actual masterclass in writing. Seriously, where can I buy some of it? Everything she puts out is so down-to-earth and it feels like a warm comforting hug - like doesn't matter if there's shit out there, let's talk about characters doing their little thingies, even if it is as simple as a coffee run. @peonierose : Peonie's writing is so wholesome, like it's like condensed hot chocolate. I'd say the one thing I love about her writing (if I had to pick *one*), it would be how she deals with a cast of characters. They all have their own unique traits, how they deal with everyday problems, their relationship with other characters- especially Luna's cousins. You find a part of yourself in her writing. Also can I just say I'm a sucker for the 'found family' trope? Peonie depicts them so well! Bryce, Luna, Soraya, Skyler, Evie, Keiki being super supportive of each other is just everything to me. @lilyoffandoms: Lily's drabbles are to literally die for. Their stuff actually inspired me a lot to get started in writing! It's tough to depict a specific scene so astutely and with the vibes, it's almost a superpower to do the same. Their descriptions are always so magically written - it is almost a literal tutorial in how to write - especially for me, who goes off on fifteen different tangents. I love Lily's writing also because of how just downright cool the characters are- Like - Maiele? Who wouldn't want to be his friend? Gabriel? Cool is literally engraved into their DNA. Merida? She's everything, Ethan's just Ken. I love them your honour. Link to masterlist.

@moominofthevalley: Okay, I admire a lot about her work but if I had to pick one for me, it would be her descriptions and just 'painting' this scene. Emily's inner monologue is honestly something we should've definitely had in canon and Moomin does this in this way that sheds some much needed light into how grief, loss, pain, love and so many others feel like. It's always an uphill climb to do so, it's an even tougher feat to fold it into parts of larger works and she does it ever so brilliantly, it gives me a literal whiplash lol (affectionate). One minute I'm like "Beat him up, Emily! Get his ass!" and the next second I'm bawling like a baby. I love their portrayal of Trystan too, it's such a delight everytime I read them both! And I'm def looking forward to what you have planned for 2024! Link to masterlist

@mydemonsdrivealimo: MJ's writing is so brilliant because it's just painfully real. The characters are brought to life with how well-rounded they are. Jensen's own strengths can come back to bite him in the back. They're ultimately people and MJ does this so effortlessly well that it is almost as if I'm reading a biography of them in action. Jensen's story is one of my absolute favs and how MJ tackles a lot of different themes such as Jensen's heritage, the whole what's-the-deal-with-hospitals-anyway, neurodivergence, old friendships coming back to life - it is just so so easy to relate to or be able to share some of that perspective. @storyofmychoices: Especially Mal's Orphanage series! I've come across Dani's writing only in passing but I'd love to get to know their characters better. Especially Daenarya. The Blades hyperfixation hasn't left my body lmao. Plus Olivia and Bryce are such a delight whenever they appear on my dash, and I'd love to learn more about them! Link to masterlist

@starlight-starfury: Ever since the WIP Wednesday snippet, the Elhalas series has just put me in a chokehold. I have definitely come across some of their works before - the writing style has me sitting down with a pot of tea ready, but I'm yet to really be able to sink my teeth in - y'know? Tyril was one of my favourite characters back in Blades #1 and I'd love to revisit my old hyperfixation through Tyril and Raine again! Link to masterlist

@stars-are-within-me: Stars is such a positive force in this fandom, plus I am obsessed with their Trystan and Carina and especially their Trystan-centric fics because it's high time Trys gets their own story to tell. I'm also like super eager to check out their Blades fics too. I'm such a sucker for character-centric stories where their pasts are explored or they're confronted with a problem only they can solve. @a-cloud-for-dreams: As a fellow South Indian, to see a South Asian!MC fills me with a ton of joy. (I definitely did not do a lot of stalking, no of course not). I'm so looking forward to reading more about Chandini and Bryce. Even Haeyln! Honestly I'm yet to catch up with so many other writers and their works - I probably sound like a broken record, but maan, life do be hard for real. But I hope this year isn't going to be as stupidly congested as 2023. If I have missed any writers, I am so sorry lol, I am writing this on three hours of sleep, the words might as well float around me but enough ramblings ha.

I hope you have a great 2024. I hope you get to write so much, create a lot of art, work on tons of different projects, don't ever suffer from writer's block and have enough time to do everything. Historical Romance: This one screams @princess-geek's Unspoken Desires to me! It's such a gorgeous romance story. I know the series is more modern than the original source material (Desire & Decorum) but I still feel like it works!

Fantasy Romance: MY FAVORITE PAIRING!!! @lilyoffandoms's Tyril and Maiele! I love them with my entire heart and being. They are everything and I am here for it!

Royal Romance: Even though they don't post anymore, for me Cordonians Undercover (by @the-soot-sprite and @zaffrenotes) is my first and favorite thought for a Royal Romance .

Today's the second day of Choices Spread Kindness Celebration hosted by the amazing @lovealexhunt and it's time to show some appreciation to the talented people who share their incredible fanfictions with the fandom.

Knowing how much work and love you guys put on everything you do, I'm coming out of hiatus for a bit to hype and praise some of the lovely and talented writers still active in the fandom 💞

I'll be sharing masterlists of a few of my favorites today, and you all should go check the celebration page at @choicesfandomappreciation and find out how you can spread love and kindness too and support the writers whose fics you enjoy. 💞

Below the read more, in alphabetical order, are the links to their masterlists and which is my favorite fic of theirs:

@aallotarenunelma - not only they are a talented writer but truly kind and supportive. Here you can find their MASTERLIST. I have enjoyed all the fics I've read, but my favorite fic of theirs is the Blades's AU The Red String of Light. So beautifully written!

@jerzwriter - you can find their MASTERLIST here. I recently started reading their Wake the Dead fics and Accidental Friendship was a fun read and a great start. All the work on promoting and supporting content creators in the fandom through @choicesficwriterscreations and all the fun events they host are something I'm truly grateful for as a reader and as a writer. 💖

@julia-highstorms - you can find this super talented writer's MASTERLIST here. I love the Wake the Dead fics and the way Eli is portrayed, but my all time favorite from their Masterlist is a Tyril x MC that still lives rent free in my mind because it's so fun and funny and well-written: Bedmates. Totally recommend you check this one out ☺️

@lilyoffandoms - their beautifully written fics can be found in their MASTERLIST. This lovely and talented writer has fics from so many Choices books and pairings, and I enjoyed everything I read from their Masterlist, but Tyril x Maiele are my favorite pairing and Stars beautiful and poetic lines live rent free in my mind. 💖

@lizzybeth1986 - this writer has some of my all time favorite fics in the Choices fandom and you can find their MASTERLIST here. Everything is amazingly well-written and the themes and characters are wonderfully developed either be the friendship fics (Music Room is the most perfect scene portraying Hana and Prince Liam's friendship and this is the missing scene from TRR book 1 we deserved ❤️), the way they portray Hana Lee and her culture so respectfully and all the love and care we can see in every chapter of Eleanor's Kitchen , which is my favorite series from their fics.

@lorirwritesfanfic - my dear friend Lori is one of the most talented and generous people I had the pleasure to meet in the fandom; here's her MASTERLIST where you can found all the fics to the several books and pairings she writes for. Her fics deal with a variety of topics with care and I'm always amazed by how much she researches and how well-developed are her characters, and I love all her Desire and Decorum AUs. I can't pick only one, but Meant to Be holds a special place in my heart and Heaven Sent Company was the first fics from her that I stumbled on and I've lost count how many times I've read.

@noesapphic - this talented storyteller and creator of fierce OCs and amazing female characters has written for various Choices books, and you can find her fics in the MASTERLIST. I love all her Desire and Decorum AUs, and I appreciate the opportunity to join and befriend Noe through our collab in The cursed heiress, but For Love and Duty is my favorite now and shows how much passion and research she dedicates to her fics.

@princess-geek - another supertalented friend of mine that not only is a superb storyteller, but a generous and supportive friend, who's always uplifting others. You can find all her fics in the MASTERLIST. Even though, Unspoken Desires is amazing and I'm always excited for every new chapter, Finding my way to you will forever hold my heart and is my favorite from all of her fics for obvious reasons.

@storyofmychoices - what to even say about this positive force that has not written some of the most amazing FICS around, but hosts so many events to spread kindness around the fandom? You can find her FICS in their extensive MASTERLIST. From all I've read from her work, and the amazing pairings she writes for like Mal x Daenarya and her lovely Bryce fics, my favorites might be her domestic FICS for Moty and how she writes Levi and Lily ❤️ I remember enjoying so much Let it be and how the emotions were so well-written! Go check her Masterlist in case you still haven't!

And last but not least, @mrsnazariowrites our very own Damien Nazário specialist. Go check her MASTERLIST 💖
