the name sakuya means "to bloom", when written as 咲也 with 咲 meaning "blossom, bloom" and 也 meaning "to be". it refers specifically to ripe cherries, which come from cherry blossoms. in japanese culture, the cherry blossom represents both life and death, which may seem contradictory---however, these short-lived blossoms remind you of the new year ahead of you, and how life is fleeting; you must appreciate it before it's gone.

Just a small guide to help newcomers understand all the names and nicknames/fannames for their fav Persona MCs. Keep in mind this is main games/nameless MC's only (so I won't list Aigis in the P3 but I will mention Maya as well as the notes at the bottom, this is due to how I structured P2 vs P3 sections) (Edit: may add to this list later but it's pretty complete for now)(Edit 2: Note that Shunjiko translates as Protagonist/Hero/Main character):

Persona 1:

P1MC: shorthand for Persona 1 Main Character

(P1) Hero/Shunjiko: Japanese generic title

Boy with Earring: In-game moniker

Naoya Toudou: Manga name

Yuuya Narumi: (one of the) DramaCD names (note: other dramaCD is just labeled "protagonist")

Jihei Suzakuin: Novel name

Persona 2:

Tatsuya Suou: MC for P2 Innocent Sin, can be renamed and it'll carry over in EP (and Katsuya's last name will change as well)

Maya Amano: MC for P2 Eternal Punishment. Cannot be changed, just like Aigis

Kazumi Kiba: MC for the manga Persona: Tsumi to Batsu. (not really related to the games but it takes place right before P2EP, Edit: mentioned him because I've seen some people think he's suppose to be an adaptation of Tatsuya or something when he's just a different character all together)

Persona 3 (Male):

P3MC: Short hand for Persona 3 Main Character

(P3) Hero/Shunjiko: Japanese generic title

Kitaro: The Japanese Fanname, due to his resemblance to the main character Kitaro from Gegege no Kitaro.

Minato Arisato: Manga name

Makoto Yuki: Movie name (*gets adopted later into games)

Sakuya Shiomi: Stage Play Name

Leader: Generic Name for MC in Drama CDs and such

Roger: A name used in AtlusUSA marketing (maybe related to this line in the game?)

Door-kun: (English) Western fandom joke nickname, spoiler reasons.

Gettaro/Tsukitaro* Yamada: provisional name for P3MC in the movies' script. A play on Kitaro. (thanks @aliliceswonderland for reminding me, as well as the other's! TToTT)

Persona 3 (Female):

P3FeMC or just FeMC (sometimes/old variations FeShe or MShee): Shorthand for (Persona 3) Female Main Character. Since SMT if/Tamaki, Maya, and Aigis have fixed names (in Persona canon), this one is usually who people mean when they hear "FeMC." Though some might use this word as a "what if" for P4/5/6 having a female protagonist. But it's usually for the P3 one.

Leader: Generic Name for FeMC in DramaCDs and such

(P3) Heroine/Josei Shunjiko : Japanese generic title

Hamuko (Arisato): The Japanese fanname, IF Arisato is used, it's derived from the P3MC's manga name.

Minako Arisato: The Western Fanname, derived from Minato Arisato but making it "ko" since a lot of females use that name (note: Minato is actually a unisex name to begin with)

Makoto Yuki: P3MC's movie name. SOME adopted this name after the movie was release due to being a unisex name)

Kotone Shiomi: Stage Play Name (*only official name she's gotten, and unlike P3/4/5MCs whose names were taken from anime adaptions, she's the only one to have her's taken from the stage play).

Door-Chan: (English) Western fandom joke nickname, spoiler reasons.

Canon-chan/Non-canon-chan: (English) Western fandom joke nickname, usually in regards to her canon status. (answer: she is canon)

Lunako Gekko: Name used for Famitsu article

Persona 4:

P4MC: Short hand for Persona 4 Main Character

(P4) Hero/Shunjiko: Japanese generic title

Leader: Generic Name for MC in Drama CDs and such

Bancho(u): Japanese Fan Nickname (he's also called this in Arena's files, short hand for his Arena fighter title)

Souji Seta/Soji Seta: Manga Name

Yu Narukami: Anime Name (*was later used for games)

Various Stage Names: Unlike the P3MCs who have a fixed stage play name, P4's gimmick was to change the name each showing. The ones used in the DVDs are: "Yuuya Seta" for the first one, "Hayato Asakawa" for the second. (complete list, at least for the 2nd stage play coming soon)

Charlie "Chuck" Tunoku: Giant Bomb Endurance run of P4 (I think this is the more famous one)

Kenpachi Ramasama/Ramasama Kenpachi: Two Best friends play P4

Chad: (English) Western fandom joke nickname, something something blame the anime (originated around it's run) esp the scene with the King's game. He got all the chicks or something.

Persona 5:

P5MC: Short hand for Persona 5 Main Character

(P5) Hero/Shunjiko: Japanese generic title

Joker: His in-game code name

Akira Kurusu: Manga name

Ren Amamiya: Anime Name (*was later used for games)

Various Stage Names: Like P4, they adopted the gimmick of doing different names each showing. The ones used on the DVDS are: "Itsuki Onda" for the first one, "Naoki Toudou" for the second one, "Nozomu Akase" for the third one, and "Kaito Shinno" for the forth/last one. (complete list here)

Chair-kun: In reference to the original teaser for P5 (there were a lot of chairs)

Pego: Fan nickname for P5MC, usually english fandom from what I've seen. Stands for Pe(rsona) and Go (aka 5 in japanese). It's a very common one and I...literally forgot TT0TT

Akiren: Alternative fan nickname for P5MC, for fans that like both Akira and Ren's names but don't want to choose I suppose.

Persona 5 X:

P5XMC: Short hand for Persona 5X Main Character

(P5X) Hero/Shunjiko: Japanese generic title

Wonder: His In-game code name

Fun facts/other notes:

FeMC is the only one who breaks the streak of using anime names (due to not having an anime adaptations), it also causes P3 to cross between two different kinds of supplementary canon. (see more on this reblog)

Not all of P4's various stage names are known, namely (haha) the first stage play. If you dig you can find all of the 2nd ones (I should really post that list one day DX)

Despite P1MC not having a consistent chosen name, Atlus seems fond of Naoya, specifically using Naoya/Kazuya together (Devil Survivor 1 manga and P5 Mementos Quest mission) with characters. If you read the P1 manga you'd understand why they put those two names together.

Kitaro and Hamuko were used as place holder text for the P3MC and FeMC chars names for PQ2.

Banchou was used for P4MC's mocking title card in Arena/Ultimax, it was translated as "Kingpin" in english.

Some other chars I didn't listed as having "Leader" could very well be called "Leader" at some point.

Shin Kanzato is the MC to the anime Persona: Trinity Soul, a series that takes place 10 years after P3. It's in it's own separate canon from the P3 we know, Edit: but I'm mentioning him because of it being the original sequel of P3 for a brief period.

Aigis' name obvie can't be changed just like Maya, but she is the MC of both The Answer, as well as the Aigis: The First Mission cellphone game. (sometimes fans refer to her as a "toaster"...bc she's a robot)

Edit: Anna is the MC of P2's novel adaptations iirc, and Naoto and Yosuke are protagonists of their own books/novels/manga. There are most likely others but I will probs end it there (as I just wanna stick with games/original MCs and having Aigis/Kiba/Shin was a bit dicey)

Similar to Pego, P3MC may also be referred to as Pesan, and P4MC as Peyon. I haven't personally seen it (considering the other more prominent names they've had) but I wanted to list it just in case.

To update: Since I mentioned Roger, it's only fair I dig for all the other ones used for other characters (it's just Roger is the most popular, and it's not used often even at that).

The only confirmed S.E.E.S. members that are not yet in their 30s (this 2022) is Junpei, Ken, and maybe Koromaru [if he's still around which I hope so].

Sojiro Sakura might be the same generation as the Persona 2: Eternal Punishment cast.

Ryotaro Dojima (1970) is the same generation as the P2:EP cast and is three years younger than Boafu, and three years older than Katsuya.

Reiji Kido's child is probably the same age as Ken Amada and the Phantom Thieves.

Takeomi swears if his best friend doesn't stop his chants of "did they look at me?" for five damned minutes he will attack.

And glancing at Waka and Benkei, he concludes that they share his sentiment. Even if they don't, he be damned if he hears that question again.

But they do.

So he decides secretly on a very secret meeting between him and Waka and Benkei, just an hour before their Gang Meeting.

"Are you serious!?"

Waka cannot believe what he is hearing.

"Surely, that plan will backfire."

Waka nods in agreement to what just Benkei said.

"Then do any of you have a better idea?"

Takeomi waits for a few seconds, but none of them responds to his question.

"Thought so."

Waka groans, cringing his face, he tries to imagine the good outcome, but all he can see is how it will go worse.

"Alright then it's final, tomorrow, we talk, and the day after tomorrow, we execute."

Takeomi leans back. Out of the conversation.

"I still think this is a bad idea." Waka hears Benkei muttering, and he silently agrees with him.

They wait till other members of the gang and the Leader himself turn up, a meeting is commencing, after all.

Tomorrow arrives, and Waka could care less of the so-called plan, but he has to. Even if the bad outcomes are more, there's still a chance for the good outcome. And he will hold onto that.

It's sunday today. And today a new film is going to be released in theaters, what was the name again? Well, not that Waka cares, it's a romance genre after all.

He and Benkei are already at the theater, more importantly the theater near your house, yes. But where in the world is Takeomi?

Waka for a second thinks he bailed out, but he was the one who came up with this stupid plan, so he gotta be here only.

And sure enough, Benkei spots him, near the ticket counter. With you.

So he already started.

"What?" You are baffled at the boy's request, who briefly introduced himself as Akashi Takeomi, a schoolmate of yours.

"Yes. I know this is quite weird, but please we may be just spared if you do it." Takeomi is on the verge of kneeling and begging to you.

"Wait a second, you are telling me, you will pay for the film, for me and my friends also snacks and all I have to do look and smile at your friend?" Truly a weird and baffling request.

"Hmm" your friend, Shiomi starts, "It's not a bad idea y'know, movie ticket paid off, and also snacks? Count me in, after all snacks are expensive."

You really want to argue, but the offer is too tempting.

"Ok, Fine! I will do it! Just pay for us I guess." For some reason, you have a good feeling about it. Well, it's probably because of free food.

As you go back near the counter again, this time Akashi Takeomi following suit.

"So we are just money tree huh?" Waka chuckles as Takeomi recites the recent encounter between him and you.

"But how did you knew that they will be here, today, at this time, and to watch this romance movie?"

"Benkei's question is a very important one.", Waka muses.

"I overheard."

And that was Takeomi's reply, but one thought trained on his and Benkei's mind. He evaesdropped.

"The movie's starting soon, c'mon I need you guys to pay for the snacks." And just as he said that, he left for the snacks counters, Waka and Benkei followed him.

Takeomi is pacing today, near the cafeteria. And Waka has an inkling, a guess for it.

"Waka! Oh what if they don't do it and I would have wasted my money, then what??" There's an immediate stress on his face, and this was one of Waka's worries.

"Can't do nothin' about it anymore, should have listened to me, let's just go in and see." Waka sighs, he too is a bit worried, after all his money was used to.

As they go in, yes. Shinichiro and Benkei are already there, eating.

"Okk!! Now's the time!!" Shiomi whispers to you, "We promised didn't we?"

"Listen! But uhhh we got to watch the movie, and got free food! Isn't it fine if we just ignore them?" You say, as there's an uncomfortable feeling, looking and smiling at a boy, which you found out that has 'down bad crush' on you for a whole two years, by a trusty classmate is not really a fun feeling.

"Yeah!" Shiomi grins at you, there's a small smile on your face, she understood you. "If they were normal boys. Do you even know who they are?"

OK. She did not.

"No. Are they important?" You tilt your head to little bit of the left side.

"Well, kind of. That guy who has a crush on you is THE Sano Shinichiro! Y'know Black Dragons? The latest and hottest gang?" Shiomi grins wide, she is too excited.

"I just asked if those boys are important? Do you really think I know?"

You are annoyed right now, Shiomi is not like that, but when it comes to stuff like 'Delinquents' and 'Gang' she gets excited, like her older brother Jin. It must run in the family.

"Alright, that's fair. Then just listen, Long story short, it's a Bōsōzoku, and they are famous. I have heard that the Leader is sooo strong that he doesn't even have to lift a finger!! His goons can do the job. And y'know the person who has a crush on you? Yeah, He is the Leader. And I have heard some rumors too, that if things don't go the way they want, they will totally beat anyone up. Even elderly and children and women."

OK, that's scary.

"Ok, but, if you are this much of a die hard fan — how is it you didn't tell me that yesterday, if you did, I would have totally refused!!"

"Well, I just found out today, from Jin." Shiomi gives you a sheepish smile.

"Then the guy who asked us to do it? What about him? Is he like that Leader too??"

Shiomi visibly gets brighter over your question, if you wouldn't be in this mess, you would have been happy to see her like that.

"Well kind of, He is called The God Of War. And the reason is that he can predict the outcome of the fight before it even starts!! He is the second in command!! I'm pretty sure he is as strong as the Leader! We can't really gouge how strong the Leader is, no one has seen him fight! We can just guess!"

"Oh...that's a bit worrying."

And worrying it should be.

"Benkei! Ya' think they are looking at me?"

Shinichiro's question snaps Benkei out from his thoughts, and it took him a second to recollect himself.

"Yeah....they are."

It almost sounds like he is forcing himself to say it, but Benkei is not wrong.

You are looking at him, albeit there's a bit of fear in your eyes, and you look a bit uncomfortable too. Benkei can only guess you know about Shinichiro's not-so-good reputation in Tokyo.

"Smile!!" Shiomi's harsh whisper makes you do it, it doesn't really reach your eyes. It looks awkward.

And Shinichiro noticed that.

"The fuck Takeomi!? Just die goddammit!! How fuckin' dare you!?"

Shinichiro's anger is justified, he did not know. It's been almost six years since that incident.

Six years, he has been left in the dark.

"You tellin' me you fucking bribed them to look at me!? Fuck you!"

Takeomi cannot be mad. What Shinichiro said is true. Although, he didn't except he would be this mad. It's probably the cheap alcohol.

"It's sunday today.." Waka mutters to himself.

True, it's Sunday. The same day when that movie was released, Waka still doesn't know the name of the movie.

"C'mon you can't be that mad!" Takeomi retorts, "Look at yourself! It's been three years you dumbass, no just look at that fucking engagement ring goddammit!"

With that remark, Shinichiro falters a bit, he is happy, but you knew it, and didn't tell him, and he found it out by Takeomi while they were drinking together, is not fun. Especially when you are out, with your friends, to a theater near his and your house, to watch a movie.

"Hey Benkei?" Waka whispers to him as Shinichiro and Takeomi are bickering in the background, "What was the name of the movie again?"

"The movie? Oh yeah, it's name was 'Sunday'."

Oh what a fitting name.

Minato and Kotone Lore 👁️👁️

Both born on January 8th, 1992

Parents names were Mei and Kaito Arisato

Moved from relative to relative after their parent’s deaths, but stuck with their Grandma in Yasoinaba when they moved with her in 2005

Mei was a dancer, Kaito was a music producer, so naturally they both ended up loving music

Were given their MP3’s the day that the accident happened

Only Minato went to Iwatodai, Kotone wasn’t interested and told him to go himself. It took a LOT of convincing but he left. Ko instead stayed with their grandma and has been studying to go into nursing school so she can be a care assistant for the elderly cus of it!! Kotone does visit Iwatodai occasionally and stays at the dorm (and since she is a Persona user, they let her come with to Tarty expeditions.

Since Minato came back to Iwatodai, he has not stepped on the Moonlight Bridge once (until the last shadow happened) Kotone just so happened to be there visiting when the mission happened and had tagged along to join the fight. Minato had a breakdown when they got there and Kotone had stepped up to be the leader (Fuuka stayed with Minato!)

They’re total opposites, but they complete each other in the things they lack

Minato

He was born first by 5 and a half minutes and teased Kotone relentlessly about it (not so much anymore)

He is really shy with new people, so much so he’ll go completely mute, but once he warms up to someone, he’ll be more expressive and open.

She gets hyper easily and it made it hard for her to get friends early on, but she always had Minato so she was okay with it.

While she loves music, she’s never really wanted to compose or dance, she just loves listening to music.

Took a couple ballet lessons with Minato, but she didn’t like it so she quit. She did go watch him though!! Instead she started martial arts classes. she graduated with a black belt~

She uses a Naginata in battle, but she also uses her martial arts skills to beat shadow ass!!!! (Minato is so proud of his sister!!!!!)

Is a force to be reckoned with in Tartarus.. Minato was scared to let her join during her first trip to Tartarus, but after watching her stagger the Reaper in one punch (haha get it), he decided she’s just fine

She LOVES horror movies, much to Minato’s dismay (he…. doesn’t prefer them he‘ll but we all know he’s scared of them)

Always was the one to stand up for Minato since he never talked to anyone but his family. He would just sit there and take the bullying and Kotone was not having it!!!

When Kotone is home in Yasoinaba, she attends Yasogami high and works part-time as a tutor and at the Amagi Inn. She tends to spend time with the owner’s daughter and help her in her studys!!!!

She takes care of all the Inaba cats and updates Minato on the additions to their family everyday. (“Minty!! say hello to your new niece!” “My 17th niece.. Ko, you need to bring them here.” “Oh my god YES!!!”)

Kotone’s in drama club, but no sports clubs.

She loves Tuxedo Sam, has a huge collection of Sam plushies (Minato won her a HUGE plush at a festival when they were 15)

Ohh, or maybe do you like Karina-chan again?” “NO!!! ….It’s Tomo-kun…” “Oh, good luck.”) She’s never gone out with anyone cus of her shyness, but she’s also scared that she’ll fall in love with someone else during a relationship. She has gone on dates, but never made anything official.

On that note, Ko is a super flirty person! Max level rizz for sure

She loves hanging out with Ken!!! They learned that they both love Neo Featherman and talk about it all the time!!! She feels like she has a little brother and is happy she can be a big sister for once!!

She also loves her Junjun!!! They became super fast best friends, and she even helps Junpei with planning dates for him and Chidori!! Best wingwoman!!

ok! the first part of my roster update is done! I changed too much to make a comprehensive list of changes but previously I had my 'request' muses intermixed with the regular list. they now have their own section that is separate. these muses are absolutely open to being written with but they need more plotting and interest shown in them for things to really go anywhere. doing this actually cut my muse list down by a lot and as time goes on I may be more liberal about adding other muses to it, but for now I'm good with how it is.

so, you're not a fan of p3 movies and how they handled minato (understandable tbfh) but can I ask what you think of the stage play/manga/drama CDs or even spin offs like PQ, specifically minatos portayal in each of those? is there one, not counting the games, that resonates with you? would really love to hear your opinion!

This is a really interesting question, so thanks for sending it my way anon!

Before I start let me preface by saying I feel like it's really difficult to nail a character as well as P3 Hero in supplementary content. If you want more of a grasp on his personality, nothing will ever beat the game itself. I'm not treating these as replacements of the game, rather their condensed take on the game character, making a new character in it's place. Also, just because I dislike a characterization does not mean i dislike the game or media itself.

-- The stage play is super cute and has a lot of charm. I understand 100% why people swear by it. Unfortunately Sakuya Shiomi is not my guy. He's essentially the "I don't care" machine.

Game Hero does say it often, but it's kind of Sakuya's only thing and eh. Not for me. He's a little too uncaring a callous in a lot of situations. It gets to a point where I'm watching and I go "Woah, what the hell Sakuya?". He feels mean for the sake of being mean. In a lot of aspects stageplay Sakuya mirrors movie Makoto in the ways they're characterized and the reasons I don't appreciate them as much.

-- The drama cds are one of my favorite favorite favorite bits of Hero characterization in supplemental material. I really like how Hero interacts with everyone. He's sort of led around, does things that people ask him to do, has a bit of bite, and banters well with his teammates. Probably my favorite alongside-

-- The manga characterizes Minato in a similar way to how the drama cds characterize Hero. It's probably why I find myself enjoying their two takes on him more so than others.

He's sweet, kind, caring, a little floaty and keeps to himself while still going out of his way to help others. Even if this means he's uncomfortable. Man man man the way he interacts with Yukari and Aigis are so sweet, you can tell he really cares. Although I do have a couple of complaints.

Manga Minato Arisato isn't really mean. He doesn't bite, doesn't self isolate. He's a little too palatable. He's sleepy and unobtrusive. People don't really have any issues with him, he's just a bit of a normal guy. Odd in only the smallest of ways. This leads to manga Minato being off put by every supernatural thing happening, he even runs from Death. Not to say I don't believe he's not scared of it, but manga Minato doesn't find comfort in these things period. On the 31st he sees Thanatos and accepts him because he's Ryoji and they were friends. Not because he deeply loves or even likes Thanatos. He doesn't have that deep connection to the unknown.

-- I haven't finished Q or Q2, they're not my style of game. But from the things I've seen It's just same old same old "I don't care" machine. Spinoff games and their tendency to flanderize the characters because it has to appeal to the widest audience possible will never appeal to me. So yeah..

Hope this answers your question though! Also hope it's okay I didn't go too far in depth with all of them. Realized while typing the Ryoji ask game that if I spend that long on every ask I may just die.
