It has been an age since I've done any kind of introduction and we have had a ton of new people join our ranks so here goes.... I'm Nyssa! I founded @magicofpaws back in 2017 as a way to make ends meet while looking for another "big girl job." It quickly grew into a full time "job" but it never felt like one. I was lucky to go to work every day and not feel like I was working at all. Now we have three employees and have plans to grow even more this year once things go back to normal. I'm doing my best to use this time to grow the training portion of my business. Dog training has been a passion of mine since I was a child. I have vivid memories of watching Uncle Matty on PBS and reading books about training in my free time. I leapt at the opportunity to work with border collies on a sheep farm in high school but never thought about training as a career. I went to college for biology with the goal of becoming an animal disease researcher. I dove into every genetics class and animal science course I could take. I had done an internship at @jaxlab in high school and thought that was the future for me. Life had other plans though and I am so happy it did. Now I am able to use what I have learned both in college and out to enrich the lives of dogs on a daily basis and have carved out a niche for myself working with anxious dogs. At times it isn't easy. Some days I get frustrated and defeated, thinking that I can't do anything to help a dog. Those days are so rare though. This is honestly the most rewarding career I can imagine.
