‼️25% off Stay Cool Shortie Socks pdf pattern ends 5/31‼️ Here’s a closer look at the colorwork panel on my latest pattern Stay Cool Shortie Socks. I thought it would be helpful to give you some pointers on colorwork socks, in case this will be your 1st pair. If you’ve seen any of my sock patterns before, you might notice that I enjoy working the colorwork on the instep. There are a few reasons for this. For one, I can SEE the design when I have my shoes off & feet up relaxing at home. It’s no fun to have the design hidden under my pant leg. Another reason is that I find the fit works out nicely here. I didn’t bother to adjust my needle size when knitting the colorwork band (although you certainly could). Having the fit just a tiny bit snugger around the instep keeps my sock on nicely. That’s especially helpful in a short sock. To keep the knitting loose, I don’t catch my floats all that often. Maybe every 5th or 6th stitch. Another trick I’ve seen is to turn the sock inside out while knitting the colorwork - running all your floats along the outside of the work. It looks weird, but people swear by it. Lastly, I think it is most helpful to find yarns that are either all the same brand (or if it’s indie dyed, same base yarn) - the closer you can get to similar weigh and twist to the yarn, the easier it’s going to be to knit up into a colorwork pattern. I've just added this pattern of mine to my shop (also Etsy, Ravelry, LoveCrafts and Makerist!) It was published last summer in @yourcrochetmag , and is perfect for using up various colours of fingering or 4-ply yarn. The little seatpad is reversible, with solid stripes on one side, and a slip stitch pattern on the other. It's a gentle introduction to colourwork, as you only work with 1 colour per row. A weekend of firsts! I finished my first ever chunky cardigan and I think I made a reel to show you it?! Ha. For as long as I can remember, I always knit something during the winter months and this year I set myself a bigger than a scarf challenge. I went online and check out the kind of knits that I thought I could make. It needed to be big, thick, colorful and easy to make. To my surprise, there’s millions of patterns to follow. I came across @abbieknits on @lovecraftsknitting and I am really impressed with the results. It was super easy to follow, I had never read or followed knitting instructions previously and to my delight a cardigan did come out HA! There is something really beautiful about time spent knitting or doing any kind of creative project don’t you think? Making the reel on the other hand was a LOT harder to put together. Technology is bonkers.

My phone this morning alerted me to "similar pictures" and created a collage of them.

Too pretty not to share, they document the journey from:

Bottom - the original Vintage Chic Sweater which is knitted in super chunky and, as a result, a very speedy knit. Cheerful and warm, and what winter walks were made for showing off.

Middle - the next incarnation which is knitted in 100% wool worsted in lots of sizes, and the jumper next to it, of rainbow stripes in "leftovers"

And Top - the Vintage Chic Sweater in 100% wool worsted on its own.

What it doesn't show is that there's a mini children's version too.

Took a ridiculous amount of time to weave my ends (and there were only two) because I just kept putting it off, but I updated the yarn recommendation on this pattern on @lovecraftsknitting because people were having trouble getting the original one. This version uses Bernat Softee Chunky yarn and gives an almost identical result to the finished product. Also, I will take any excuse to toss something over the 8 year old and tell him to hang on a second while I take a picture. My final thoughts on the @hi.ravelry debacle. I’m already moved on and you can do it too. Of all of the limitations and ableism I’ve endured over the last 30 years, not being able to use a website was definitely not on my radar. For those still trying to sort things out and pivot, I’ve compiled a list of options. These are just suggestions on what you can do with limited time and resources to migrate patterns, find a website l, be seen, etc. Pattern Migration—for designers selling: @etsy, @lovecraftscom, @payhiphq Pattern Migration—for prior purchases: @lovecraftscom. You can open an account on either @lovecraftscrochet or @lovecraftsknitting and import your Ravelry purchases there with a few clicks. There is also @knitcompanion that will access your Ravelry library and import your patterns. These are great options if you do not have the time or storage capacity to download your full Ravelry pattern library. Websites: if you want to build your own website (easiest to hardest) there is Google Sites, wix.com, or Wordpress. I’ve also seen sub options for sites through Etsy and Zibbet. Social media: yes. Expand your social media presence. Not just here and on Facebook but check out Twitter, YouTube, Snapchat, TikTok, Tumblr, and Vero.
