What do you think about Jerome giving Bruce a teddy bear in 3x14?

- Do you like the concept where Jerome wins a teddy bear for Bruce, saying: 'Can't a man give a gift, especially when you're going to certain death?!'

- A teddy bear with a big bloody smile that taunts Bruce so much just by his appearance, because Bruce at that time already had a 'sad clown smile'.

- And what if Bruce keeps a teddy bear from his kidnapper even during No Man's Land?

Justifying his action - 'this is just a reminder of my mistakes and the first serious promise. Alfred, I'm not lying' - he still takes the bear and for 2 years his attitude towards the toy changes a lot

At first time, he has a rather negative attitude towards the toy: old memories again and again appear in his head like nightmares just if he looks at this awful bear. The realization that he can kill or cause a lot of pain.

But as soon as his 'brat' phase sets in, Bruce becomes more aggressive towards the bear: use this as an outlet for his aggression.

But what about situations when heavily intoxicated or hungover Bruce starts to imagine that teddy bear it's Jerome and talks to him? A discussions about Jerome's childhood, why he became so manic, what was the main reason, accompanied by loud laughter in his head and screams of pain from the Carnival.

And what about situations when Bruce can't hold back his tears and hugging the bear, sobbing, promises himself that 'this won't happen again', but goes back to hugging the toy, remembering his bad deeds (in his opinion), imagining what Jerome could say?

After the death of Jerome, the bear gives even more pain than he expected. Bruce assured everyone and himself that Jerome's death did not mean anything, but he is well aware that Jerome's death hurt him very much.

Bruce during No Man's Land might continue his hug time with teddy bear.

Bruce's discussion about Jerome slowly turns into discussions about Jerome and Jeremiah during No Man's Land.

Bruce hates what Jerome did. With the city, with Jeremiah, with him. Bruce hates Jerome but realizes how sorry he is for the little boy who was abused by his family. He wanted to save Jerome, and he hates himself for doing not so much. Hates that he couldn't save one brother from the other.

But he also loves Jerome.

Teddy bear - a solid memory of that terrible night at the Carnival and the 'helplessness and weakness' in front of the toy. No matter how stupid it may sound, but that smile and the fact that it was Jerome who give the bear will be an association for Bruce. He sees a bear - immediately remembers all moments with Jerome.

I think that's exactly what Jerome might trying to achieve.

There is such a thing that people look for something familiar in a lover: similarity with a relative, best friend etc.

Do you think Jerome's obsession with Bruce could be caused by how much Bruce resembles Jeremiah? Bruce and Jeremiah are rather 'soft and innocent' characters. Of course, Bruce grows into a more cold person, but during the time of the series he gives himself the opportunity to show weakness. Even Bruce's appearance has soft features. So does Jeremiah. Despite being Jerome's twin, it is immediately noticeable that he is a gentle person due to his appearance. Jerome never knew what normal love is (neither parental nor romantic) and that's why he's just obsessed with Bruce and Jeremiah. All Jerome knew was violence, and it seems like Miah was the only one who could offer a bit of softness, whether it be the physical touch or just his appearance. A coiffed hairstyle, glasses that give some innocent to the face, and nice clothes.

Of course, this sounds stereotypical, but in the end it is. These two characters are intelligent and somewhat innocent. Also, Jeremiah and Bruce are similar in that they hold something 'dark side' back. It's also mentioned way too many times in the canon, which sounds like the obvious thing. Bruce has anger issues, but since Jeremiah is not fully developed as before the spray we can only deduce from the scene where Jim, Harvey and Bruce arrive at his bunker.

He is visibly annoyed, although in such a situation everyone would be annoyed, but quickly calms down when he sees Bruce. I think this looks like a dislike for Jim, because not everyone can immediately switch from anger to a more or less calm state. Or maybe he also has anger issues and his mood changes very quickly. Maybe after the spray his problem was clearer, since in season 5 he behaves quite strangely. The spray really only let out all the 'bad' things that Jeremiah had. He wanted to do the same with Bruce: have Bruce kill him in the maze of mirrors.

Only if Jerome has a 'love' bordering on hatred due to betrayal, with Bruce can he have an obsession, which in the Valeyne context is a twisted love. Which, by the way, again coincides with Jeremiah's love after the spray.

With all this I want to say that Jerome really could love Jeremiah (like a brother) and Bruce, only his problem in not understanding positive emotions does not allow him to do this 'right'.

I also think Jerome might have Impulsiveness and Adélie syndrome because of all this shit.

Jerome Valeska and parallels with the Black Dog from European folklore.

All factors are taken from the same source and based on it. Some statements may be exaggerated, but this is just an amateur post and you are always free to express your point of view.

The black dog has always been closely associated with death, darkness, and ghostly visions from the other world. Any resident of Gotham, whether a cop, a civilian or a criminal, at the name of Jerome Valeska shudders at least a little. Jerome Valeska is a man who only wants chaos, violence and a grand finale. Jerome and Death are synonyms. Not a single appearance of the red-haired has occurred without death. 1x16 - Jerome's mother's death. (Lila Valeska) 2x03 - Death of Jerome's father (Paul Cicero) and death of Jerome himself.  3x13 - Dwight Pollard's death. 3x14 - the death of innocent people during the carnival and the presumed death of one of Jerome's clown makeup artists. 4x16 - Uncle Jerome's death. (Zachary Trumble) 4x17 - death of innocent people. 4x18 - the death of innocent people, Jerome and Jeremiah's former personality. Being a harbinger of death, the Black Dog always goes to where someone will die soon, and therefore rarely stay in the same place.    Is there anything to be added here? Just one appearance of Jerome makes everyone think: "How many deaths will be there this time?"

The black dog is very smart, brave and loyal. He does not run after a stick or ball thrown to him, and he never sits back if they have important business to attend to. Jerome Valeska is smart. He may not be a scientist, but his latest idea was truly brilliant. Courage may be present, but in this case one has to think a lot: was it courage or a simple absence of fear?

Loyalty to your cause is also loyalty. Although all of his actions are terrible and not good, Jerome has never shown himself as a good guy, except in 1x16. But after that episode, he showed only his true face, not pretending to be a good mayor or a sane forensic scientist.

Yes, Jerome Valeska will never obey someone. It's obvious. In 2x02 Jerome taunts the cannibal, clearly enjoying his power. In 4x16, we learn that he's the one planning the escape and is clearly hostile to Jonathan Crane's incompetence comment.

And even if we consider this despite the canon, then Valeska clearly does not like being dominated in any way. He must control everything, no one else.
