Greetings! 28. INFJ. Tired. Welcome to my Multi-Fandom Land of ships, poetry, fun, inspiration, pretty stuff & precious sin. “You will have days where you feel better, and you will have days where you want to die. Both are okay. There is no magical cure. You just need to close your eyes, and trust that the waves will pass, and soon you’ll be able to breathe again.”

i’m sooo crazy about monster… it absolutely kills me that johan’s entire personality is based on seeing almost all life as totally worthless, on doing the cruelest thing they can think of at any moment, on having psychological control over everyone. and so much of the series is about questions of what life is even worth, and how much pain and fear can destroy people and their morals
whereas tenma. and nina. and dieter and grimmer and dr. reichwein and so many other characters are defined by how much they care about people, how much they value human life and are willing to put themselves in danger to stop johan. tenma is willing to ruin his entire life and throw away his wonderful career because he feels responsible for dozens of deaths just because he saved a dying child’s life, and he wants to carry that burden all on his own so that no one else gets hurt in the process.
and i think the contrast between how fragile everyone good is and how untouchable johan is really highlights how difficult it is to be kind and take care of people. i find that struggle makes all the moments of kindness, where tenma is helping someone just because he can and he wants them to stop hurting, so fucking impactful to me

EDIT: CHECK MY LATEST ADDITION BEFORE YOU START SHIT IN THE NOTES, THANKS.
warning for discord users
If you're on the app, immediately go to your dms and then "add friends". After the latest update they allow your contacts to find you and have that option turned on by default, so make sure it's unchecked!
This is very obviously not great for a multitude of reasons, but especially for people in vulnerable positions who do not want people in their contacts to see who they are on discord and/or know they have discord in the first place. I've also tried finding out if this is a thing on desktop but haven't been able to find any mention of it, so either it's not a "feature" (yet) or they've hidden it. Either way, stay safe, and turn off finding friends via contacts!
[ID: three screenshots from the discord app with circles around the buttons to press to get to this "feature". 1: the messages/DM button, 2: the "add friends button", 3: in the add friends page, the "allow contacts to add me" checkbox. /END ID]
Ya know when people told me "when you're finally safe enough that you can leave survival mode and start to let go of and process your c-ptsd/trauma things are probably going to get really, really bad before they slowly start to get better" I thought that was reasonable. I did not understand that by "things are going to get bad" they meant "you're going to find yourself in the worst mental state of your entire life, but dw, that means it's working" and tbh I simply wish someone had been more clear.
i’m going to say something that might make me seem ungrateful, but i think it’s true of many fic writers:
we want you to leave comments ON ao3.
we’re not angry or disappointed or anything like that when you leave qrts or lots of tags on our fic posts, not at all. we don’t NOT want you to message us to tell us how a fic touched you. but in addition to that, please consider just copying those words and posting them on ao3 as a comment.
why?
the reason is simple: leaving commentary in other places is ephemeral. story posts get pushed down. chats get pushed down in the list of chats, or worse, pushed up in lists of messages as the conversation continues. but comments on ao3 are easily accessible. and this is important because writers read and reread these comments regularly.
writing, especially writing longfics, is exhausting and drains your confidence over time. having a collection of people who enjoyed your past work at your fingertips is an excellent way to build yourself up when you’re feeling down. fic writers need this a lot.
i know over the past few years there’s this trend to be very descriptive with what is an “acceptable” comment. that’s all nonsense, as long as you’re not being an asshole, just say what’s on your heart.
I know this audience skews young, so I wanna tell y'all something. Listen.
If it hasn't already, there'll come a day in your late teens or early 20s when you get disillusioned and relieved of a whole bunch of childhood notions at once, when you take a good look around at the life you're in or seem to be walking into and you ask yourself, "Is this it? Is this everything life is going to be? Am I really supposed to devote my life to making money for someone else day after day and year after year, with two days a week and one week a year left over to live, until I die? This is a helot's stake. This is the wrong side of the line between libertas and servitas. How can this be it?"
And when that happens, I want you to remember that you're right. It is bullshit, and it is a misery, and it doesn't have to continue. People are gonna tell you you're wrong, they're gonna say shit like "That's just how life is, kid, so grow up," and I want you to remember that those people deserve equal measures of pity and contempt.
If this makes you angry, that's good. It ought to.
And once you're good and angry, you can read up on this cool thing we got called a union.
