louis, lestat, and their single bed as a motif louis puts into his own story, but refuses to explore, is literally one of the sexiest parts of the show. it speaks volumes about a level of fulfillment and freedom that louis feels by being with lestat that he rarely explicitly comments on when he's relaying his story to daniel, which feels extremely relevant to his overall reluctance to examine the parts of his relationship with lestat that he really enjoyed.

because louis is a character who's hyper aware of how he presents himself. he's lived his entire life projecting a certain masculine, heteronormative image, and he's aware of how deviating from that presentation has implications that impact how people view him - from enjoying the opera, to the presentation of his nails. the fact that he moves in with lestat and neither of them ever put a second bed into any room in the house as a level of plausible deniability is so huge and oversight by so cautious a character, it can only be read as deliberate - especially when the conspicuous lack of a second bed is pointed out to them by both antoinette and a literal police officer. in an existence where you don't sleep in a bed, the bed becomes a symbolic object more so than a practical one. it's louis choosing to deliberately transgress against the societal expectations he lives out when he leaves his house, a bit of presentation that actually amplifies his truth as a gay man living with his partner, rather than masking or hiding himself, like he does for the outside world.

#literally imagine the satisfaction and euphoria in having one place where you can purposely present yourself as gay #where you can look at your own personal space and go 'it looks like a gay man lives here' and feel safe and accepted in that #i feel similarly about the way lestat touches louis tbh #especially as viewed through claudia's diaries #there's an openness to the way louis and lestat behave around each other that their status (of being rich and being vampires)#grants them that louis hasn't really gotten the chance to explore before #and they still can't be blatant about their queerness obviously #but they get away with significantly more than louis has ever allowed himself in his human life #there is an incredible amount of relief and joy in having a partner who isn't ashamed to touch you #and you can see louis feel that #it's one of my favorite pieces of the narrative threaded through the entire story #rarely commented on but still blatant for how encompassing queer love can be #iwtv

Another person to lose.

Reccer says: It's one of those fics that I'd describe as monumental, masterful, epic. In my opinion, it should be made into a film, and brought to everyone's attention. The script is brilliant and relentless. The characters are subtle and nuanced. The writing is exemplary. A masterpiece.

Reccer says: Absolutely excellent. I was a bit worried about how Harry's blindness would be handled, but it was done wonderfully. Perfect fic. Perfect writing. Perfect plot.

1920's era, Great Gatsby inspired. Harry is a poor boy living in the South Village. Every night he watches the North City come alive and longs of crossing the river to be a part of it and escape his dreary life. The infamous Mr Tomlinson lives across the river from Harry. His parties are the stuff of legend; people on both sides know about them, and all Harry wants is a chance to go to one. When fate swings his way and he finds himself in Mr Tomlinson's house, he gets much more than he could ever have bargained for.

The year is 1934 and Harry Styles was to inherent the largest tobacco firm in the south. His parents have picked out the “perfect” girl for him to marry and he has the privilege of receiving the highest education possible. The problem was, Harry hadn’t realized he didn’t actually want any part of that future until he met a mechanic named, Louis Tomlinson.

Reccer says: This fic is simply magnificent. A must read

Never content to stay in one place for long, a few months down south researching for his novel seemed like an idyllic, slow-paced summer to Louis. He wasn't ready for the blistering heat, the backbreaking work of watermelon picking, or how stifling the attitudes in rural Georgia would feel. And he definitely hadn’t anticipated falling in love with the farmer’s son. The summer of 1946 would turn out to be everything worth writing about.

1993: Louis is 16. It's summertime, by a lake in France. He meets Harry. 1999: Louis is in Japan; he hasn't seen Harry for 6 years, since that fateful summer. He thought he'd lost him forever.

Reccer says: For years, I've been reading only in English, but there's still the odd French fic that I come across that's really good. "This too shall pass" is one of them. It's set in the 90s, it's beautifully written, it's moving, and the characters are well characterized. For me, it's a gem. So I recommend it. For anyone who can read in French.

Reccer says: This fic is such a wild adaptation of a story almost everyone knows, capturing both the sweet (literally, since Harry is a baker haha) elements and also the darkness of the tale.

Louis Tomlinson and Harry Styles were noted painters in the 19th century. Louis was a Neoclassicist, Harry a Romantic -- totally different, nothing in common, no connection. But centuries later, art historians Niall and Liam find something that suggests perhaps the two were more intertwined than people think.

Reccer says: I love the parallel timelines, watching Louis and Harry's relationship develop and fracture and heal at the same time as watching Niall and Liam discover things. We see pieces of history they're trying to puzzle together, and then we see the history as it happened, what it really was and what it meant to them.

It's an absolutely beautiful (and hot) exploration of such a specific time and place. So layered and thoughtful and hopeful and real.

✣ This fest was inspired by the engraving on the inside of Harry’s lion ring that reads the same. While we may not know the meaning, we all know that sometimes the second chance is what you need to finally get it right.

✣ "Second chances are riddled with self-doubt, irrational fears of falling short or making a mistake, and not living up to the potential you got a firsthand taste of the last go 'round.” If you could have a second chance, what would you do with it?

And, like a flowing river, those same experiences, and those yet to come, continue to influence and reshape the person we are, and the person we become. maybe i can put my thoughts into something more eloquent later when i'm not fucking bawling my eyes out but like.

the eclipse is a show made specifically for us. for queer people.

and of course yk. the BL genre is often something many of us in the community can find themselves in but i'd argue that very few shows are actually made with us as a target audience in mind. many cater to specific tropes and the desires of a cishet, largely feminine dominated fanbase and we're just desperate enough for representation to seek it out to. it's obvious that a lot of shows aren't made with the queer audience as the main target, and it's so, so refreshing to have one that is - and it has a lot to do with it being made by people in the community, too

the eclipse is an ode to queerness, to the inherent bravery that comes with being queer - specifically in a country where it isn't really socially accepted yet. it's a celebration of all kinds of ways to be queer, it doesn't invalidate those who want to stay in the closet, or those who are loud and proud and refuse to back down. it's a celebration of pride and self-discovery and self-acceptance, of love in all forms and of the existence of this community it's about hope for better times, and courage to be the one to change things, to put yourself out there no matter what because eventually the fire might catch on. it's about allowing mistakes and growth and learning and becoming someone you're happy with, no matter what the world says

it's just. it's so obvious how much love and care was put into the show, how much the cast and the crew were invested in telling this story and doing it right and i cannot thank them enough the eclipse is just. it's uplifting. it's queer. it's unapologetic.

it's a masterpiece, no matter the flaws
