i’m presenting a theory that’ll likely be wrong but!

so we know at some point tk asks owen to be his best man. we know this season is emphasizing his and owen’s relationship—tk refers to him as his best friend, owen expresses regret over how he handled telling tk about his cancer diagnosis and vows to never hide anything from him again.

we also know that carlos views his relationship with gabriel as a sore spot. he views owen and tk as having a great father-son dynamic. he tells andrea he feels he wouldn’t measure up and that’s the source of his conflict with wanting to be a father, most of which stems from the fact that he and gabriel just started having a relationship a couple of years ago…which still seems rife with complexities and deeply repressed issues due to ideas around masculinity, sexuality and other things that come about when carlos, the only boy and (likely) youngest kid is raised in a traditional household. we see carlos and gabriel embrace when carlos is saved, and you can see the love for his son gabriel has, but it’s also not hard to extrapolate from the scenes we’ve gotten from them that this isn’t something that’s expressed a whole lot.

so we know that carlos seeks out gabriel (likely a short while before the wedding) and asks him to be his best man. his reasoning is “you’re the best man i know” and i’m wondering if this is his attempt at an olive branch—at reaching out to his father before he gets married. and i’m wondering if whereas owen jumps at the opportunity to be tk’s best man, gabriel….hesitates.

i’m wondering if it’s kind of weighing on gabriel like….how their relationship has had its issues. i’m wondering if it’s going to open up a can of worms. we know he’s at the rehearsal dinner and seemingly happy, and we know he of course accepts and supports carlos and tk’s relationship, but i wonder if we’ll see him question why on earth carlos would want him to take on this role after all these years of miscommunication and emotional distance.

i think they’re purposely being shady with the promo so we don’t see whether or not gabriel is standing at carlos’ side as his best man, just like they’re hiding whether or not he’s at the wedding. but this still speaks volumes to me

alongside the fact that carlos is wearing gabriel’s ring. i think we’ll get a moment before the ceremony of gabriel either suddenly accepting the role (meaning iris, who is wearing a boutonnière similar to paul/owen/tk/carlos’ can step aside and just be a guest) or simply handing him his ring as a symbol of his love and his support and a promise to be better and talk more. and i think the still above, with carlos teary-eyed and and gripping tk’s hand, is gabriel standing up in front of everyone and giving a speech that shows how much respect he has for his son (and new son-in-law), how much he loves him, and how carlos is the best man he knows. cue tears for everyone and a step into carlos and gabriel working on their relationship. and leaving whatever this tragedy is (if there’s even something that big, we know how lone star plays us with wording) to something else.

It definitely looks like he's dealing with official papers in that first still.

Maybe he's trying to make his will and asks Owen's advice?

Or he's trying to decide on Strand-Reyes or just Reyes and the still of tarlos together at home is him telling Carlos what he's decided.

This episode repeatedly said TK and Owen had a strong relationship, and yes they do. It’s pretty dang solid. But, wasn’t it said that after 9/11 and the divorce that TK didn’t really see his dad a lot? Wasn’t Owen ignoring and brushing off TK a few episodes ago? Since Carlos’ fear is that he wouldn’t measure up to being a good father, I almost wish there was a conversation about how that takes time and grows and stuff like that. I don’t think the baby talk is over yet, since they still need their major Tarlos storyline for next season, so I’m hoping it comes up then.

okay so this is o'brien guy right?? it's from episode 5, so I'm guessing that's when he shows up and crazy things start happening (buildings exploding and all that)

then i found this in this promo, so it looks like somebody's stalking the 126?? you see where I'm going with this right? it is very possible that that guy finds out why owen is with the honor dogs (maybe o'brien finds him and tells him??? idk idk) yeah and wants to hurt people owen cares about

it is possible that marjan gets hurt and that's how they find out?? or idk but this scene might be owen telling them they're either dealing with somebody very dangerous or that somebody's after them.

either way they find out somehow and have to wear vests??

and then they obviously find out who's doing this (which it doesn't have to be that guy but you know 😁) but its definitely somebody who's hiding at the 12345 security code place because

I think the bruising and swelling in the stills of TK are just because of the light and because he's puffing out his cheeks in the one with Owen. He looks really stressed though with Owen and tired and upset with Carlos. Maybe it's legal stress? It looks like he's filling in forms or looking through paperwork with Owen.

oh yeah i totally agree, the quality of the stills when zoomed in isn't great and it's more than likely a trick of the light. like i said, i'm not expecting anything to actually happen but that won't stop me from imagining

could be that these scenes are linked and they're to do with the annulment? maybe the legal process means they're going to lose their dream venue after all? (even though more than eight weeks have definitely passed in the show at this point. and iris was already carlos's ex-wife by last episode so.)

i suppose we shall see

I am trying to resist the clownery that ensues ever time we get new stills or bts footage but. . .

If the speculation about the "Buck, Bothered, and Bewildered" being linked to the song title, this could be Buck's Bi Awakening or him finally realizing his feelings for Eddie. We also know this is the basketball episode and likely when the "accident" he talks to Maddie about happens.

Marisol is unfortunately back, we saw the actress wearing a robe meaningful what she's wearing could be a spoiler or it could mean she got wet while filming.

The basketball court is by the water. What if she comes to see Eddie and Buck is so jealous that he "accidentally" knocks her in. It could start a fight between him and Eddie leading to whatever the hell is happening between them in the gym.

Either way we only have a couple weeks until the show is back but it will be the end of April when we get answers to whatever cliffhanger we're left on after "You Don't Know Me"

I'm so curious about what kind of time jump we'll be getting at the start of season 5. The show generally likes to anchor the episodes in real time (whether or not that has any internal consistency with the in-universe timeline of course), so I have to believe from this precedent that we'll be getting references to fall 2024 in season 5.

I don't think this means we'll necessarily be getting an explicit 16 month time jump, but I do think their tendency to try to place the episodes in real time means we won't just be picking up where we left off time-wise. I feel like there has to be a time jump. I think the most likely time jump is a year, just because it's simpler and cleaner than the more specific 16 months.

I kind of hate this because it would mean that we miss out on the entire first year of TK and Carlos' marriage. I hope that we can at least get a little something at the beginning of the first episode...maybe they could do what they did at the start of season 3...Start out pretty much where they left off and then, a few minutes in, hit us with the time jump. Give us a tiny crumb of newlywed Tarlos PLEASE.

One storyline that I think will benefit from a big time jump is the Judd/Wyatt situation. Picking up where we left off there would have Judd at home caring for Wyatt and away from the firehouse. Obviously Judd is going to come back to the firehouse, and a year time jump will give him an easy way to do that--Wyatt can have healed enough to be able to move on to a different living situation, maybe moving in with his girlfriend and their baby that has presumably been born by now. (Oh my god, if they give us a year time jump, she better not still be pregnant! But I wouldn't put it past them 😂)

Another interesting thing with such a large time jump is that it puts them in a position to make big changes. A lot can happen in a year. Couples could break up, someone could be engaged, someone could have a different job, relationship dynamics could have shifted, a new character could have become integrated into the group, etc. To a certain extent, this is true at the start of any new season, but if we miss a whole year of these people's lives, they could realistically make big moves without having to build up to it. I could see them taking this opportunity to shake things up a bit...if I'm being honest, this thought terrifies me a little 😂 But it also opens up a lot of interesting possibilities!

is in fact next week, and it’s a mix of lighthearted hangout and bittersweet missing marjan and the 126 joking around with/generally being a support system as carlos is finally back to work and seeking out some comfort by seeing his fiancé and friends during their shift for lunch and he’s anticipating that nothing can get more chaotic than being kidnapped/drugged/killed/resuscitated before the whole. you know. owen dropping the “i need everyone’s help to try and take down this supremacist biker group i’ve been undercover with for weeks as they plan an attack and oh we might be targeted” thing on them like it’s any other weekday.

Theory dump for me and @thisbuildinghasfeelings!

I think Robert Strand has Huntington’s Disease, or something very neurodegenerative that is inherited, (could be Alzheimer's too). I think the chances of it being inherited are like 50% and there really is no cure. This will lead Owen into getting tested in 15, but I’m pretty sure he won’t get the results until 16. 

One of the first signs of Huntington’s is clumsiness so I was wondering if TK’s black eye has something to do with him like rolling off the bed (the “not cute” wakeup scene) if it’s not related to a call. I’m pretty sure if Owen doesn’t have it, then he can’t pass it down to TK (feel free to correct me those in the know). But, it could be enough to make TK panic and spiral for a couple of episodes- which leads us into one of the final bumps before the wedding- TK fretting about Carlos marrying him if he has the genetic marker because they would only have so much time together- Carlos reassuring him that he’s the love of his life and any years he has with him would be worth it.

And Huntington’s disease is really sad. I know a lot don’t care about the Strand family, but it would really suck to lose one brother when you’re a teenager, find another one and then find out you’re going to lose him too. 

Granted- Owen isn’t going to have it (I’m like 90% sure) and the call sheet this weekend with Owen facetiming TK with good news is more than likely him telling TK that they are in the clear. They film SO much out of order, probably bc of actor availability, especially with someone like CL. They filmed last nights ep in early Feb and next weeks ep was done in mid March lol
