Your top 10 c-actors and top 10 c-actresses?
Oooo hm. I'll be honest with you and say that I don't actually watch as much Chinese dramas as people might think haha... It takes a very special premise to pull me in and even then, I usually don't end up liking 70% of whatever is on and abandoning it by the 3rd episode.
That said, I'm going to limit my picks to the top 5 off the top my head in each category. These are actors and actresses who, by virtue of their names being attached to a project, will get me interested in making it to episode 5 and of whom I have watched more than 2 projects that they've been a part of.
Actors
Leo Wu
Tumblr media
Our family's Fei Liu 🥰 I know, I know. Didi is the furthest thing from Fei Liu these days, but in my mind, he'll forever be Fei Liu and there's a huge part of me that will always adore him for that. Throughout the years, his projects have been a hit or a miss with me. Either I'll like them or I won't. Which is what I like. I don't want to like everything my faves are part of.
Joseph Zeng
Tumblr media
(Look at that happy baby hahaha)
I can't remember which project I first saw him in, or how he even pinged on my radar. But before I knew it, I'd watched three of his dramas and I was about to watch more.
Qin Hao
Tumblr media
THIS. DUDE. He's such a powerhouse of an actor and I AM--
He chooses some of the most intense projects and I'm so, so here for them. There's this magnetic quality to the way he acts and every time I get to see him onscreen, I'm absolutely mesmerised. I also have to be honest and say that I haven't had a change to work through his body of work, but I think it's just a matter of time (and mental space) before I do.
Liu Yuning
Tumblr media
I believe some moots on this hellsite have had front row seats to my thirsting of this tall, thin, sassy da ge and I won't apologise for any of it. 100//10 would climb him in a heartbeat.
I fell for his voice first before I even knew his face (花开早 天知晓 天莫笑 天亦老~~!!!) and then I saw his face and BAM. Goner. Goodbye ovaries. You might be thinking, oh Gab you're just horny on main for him, to which I will say, yes, yes I am. Isn't that reason enough for me to have gone watch the variety show he was on WITHOUT SUBS. My banana ass went through a lot for this man ok? That's love.
Zhang Linghe
Tumblr media
HIM. Saw him in Maiden Holmes. Watched how he acts with his eyes. Okay. Sold. Over the last couple of years, the one drama I really wanted to see him in was the TGCF live action adaptation, which as we all will know, won't be seeing the light of day any time soon. He was actually on my fancast list for Hua Cheng and I was pretty gratified when they announced that he was taking on the role.
He's been doing well for himself and I've liked him the dramas that have caught my eye, and I look forward to what he will bring to the table next. Even if he had been, unfairly in my opinion, saddled with this perception that his dramas have a difficult time getting to air.
Actress
Zhao Liying
Tumblr media
Zhao Liying is someone with a face that is so sweet that you'd go into her projects thinking that she's going to portray one type of character then getting body slammed into a spiral of a drama length like The Story of Minglan.
Zhao Lusi
Tumblr media
This woman is on track to being the best actress of her generation. Period. You can't fight me on this because you know I'm right.
She's an absolute powerhouse and there's this sense about her that she isn't afraid to get ugly, go roll in the mud and get dirty just to portray a character. I love that about her. There's just this sense of joy to watch her act because she's not just embodying the character, she IS the character. I wouldn't be surprised if her international audience reach is really big because it's what a Queen like her deserves.
Tian Xiwei
Tumblr media
Now, she is someone that I never thought I would be into. But I think the dimples should have been a good indication that I was gonna get suckered into her projects and for that, I'm glad. I've only seen bits and bobs of three of her projects, but if the way that I am actually intrigued by the projects she takes on is any clue, I think I'll be sufficiently entertained.
Liu Mintao
Tumblr media
Every time I see her, I wanna just be on my knees and call her Mother.
She is absolutely fantastic in every role she takes on. The gentle but steely Consort Jing in Nirvana in Fire? The nurturing and protective Ming Jing in The Disguiser? Check and Check. Love her. I low key think she's a chameleon. Her body of work speaks to the quality of her acting.
Esther Yu
Tumblr media
(listen. LISTEN. I HAD TO INCLUDE ONE OF THE HOTTEST KISS SCENES IN CDRAMALAND THAT ISN'T A DEAD FISH LIPS SITUATION OK)
The first time she ever pinged on my radar, it was because of her antics with Lisa from Blackpink during her Produce days. Found her cute and endearing, but that was it. And then came Love Between Fairy and Devil. Without knowing, I fell in love with her charms. She is another actress I think isn't afraid to own being neck deep in the nitty and gritty and not looking perfect. I'm very interested to see what sort of projects she takes on, and judging by her Yun Weishan in My Journey to You, I think there'll be much to anticipate.

Subbed: 回廊亭 Revival trailer (Ren Suxi, Liu Mintao)
An upcoming movie adaptation of Keigo Higashino's The Murder in Kairoutei starring Ren Suxi and Liu Mintao!!! The promotional materials emphasize that this is a two-woman story, with absolutely no word about the boyfriend.
This movie was originally set to be released March last year (2022), suddenly went totally silent, and came back today to announce that it's coming out on March 2023, finally. <3

Paparazzi previewed a R1SE melon yesterday and it turns out to be Yao Chen being spotted with a girl
Later, YC denies and explains it's just his cousin and friends
A top comment: no longer interested in any R1SE relationship melons, unless it's 2 members dating each other
And because the paparazzi revealed 2 melons today, the hot search rank turned into this: - Liu Mintao kisses a man inside car - Not Yao Chen and LMT kissing - YC relationship

im mourning mnh a little bit because i was rly looking forward to her character when she was first introduced but by now if you ask me to say something about her personality (so not even delving into her role in the plot, which i guess will at least have something to do with military action towards the end) im not sure what i can say :< in the beginning, her will being suppressed seemed like a cool plot thing, and she was clearly fighting back against the wedding tournament in her own way, but since then, we really haven't seen her exercise her own will to do much of, well, anything except question mcs about being lin shu and crying...and now she's just... the past love interest who visits him now and then and helps him do exposition of the plot by asking questions. im waiting for her to be delivered from plot shackles so she can exercise her will, please

Excerpts from this interview posted today: Liu Mintao: The "son" Wang Yibo in "One and Only" is a sensitive and kind child.
This interview is about LM and her role in the film, so I left ones talking about Yibo & Chen Shuo. 🫶🏼
Tumblr media
Liu Mintao said that before the filming of "One and Only" began, she and Wang Yibo, who played her son in the film, did not know each other very well. After cooperating, she believes that this child who does not talk much and is relatively introverted has brought her a lot of feeling, "He is the kind of child who does things silently, very sensitive, very careful, he is a person who is full of kindness and willing to give to others."
There is a very touching scene in "One and Only", Du Lisa, who has always cared about her son Chen Shuo and hopes that he can persist in pursuing his dreams, in order to reduce Chen Shuo's burden and help Chen Shuo buy more time to dance, Du Lisa, who has not been out of the mountain for a long time, chose to sing on stage and perform for her son. Because of his father's death, Chen Shuo has always been reluctant to let his mother sing, because every time his mother sings, she misses his father very much, but for the child's dream, she is willing to perform for him, when Chen Shuo saw this scene burst into tears, facing Tu Lisa on the stage, he was full of guilt, and also burst into tears because of the greatness of maternal love.
This is the first scene shot by Liu Mintao after entering the group, and it is also a very important crying scene for Wang Yibo. Director Dapeng recalled that everyone has been preparing for this scene for a long time, which is a very important scene, because the two actors are professional and fully prepared, and finally "one" passed, and he was blinded. Later, this scene also became a touching tear point in the whole film, Liu Mintao said that she did not expect that the first scene could be so tacitly acted, "really" emotional presentation is the best: "The play of "One and Only" is very strong, this is not specially created or improvised by us, this plot, the screenwriter teacher set up the possibility of making the audience empathize, because everyone in real life has been a child and has been a child, and such a blood thicker than water emotion, as long as it is presented very true, it can move people." Liu Mintao recalled that when she filmed this scene, she was singing on stage, and she couldn't see anything offstage, but Wang Yibo could watch her offstage, in fact, she didn't know how Wang Yibo performed. Later, when she saw the finished film, she was also completely moved, "I think Yibo showed Chen Shuo's state at that time very well, his gesture of wiping tears, his uncomfortable expression of crying, acting really well, he did 'the real thing is the best'." ”
Partnering with Wang Yibo for the first time, he works silently and is full of goodwill
The portrayal of family affection in "One and Only" is real and touching. In Liu Mintao's view, a big reason is due to her tacit cooperation with Wang Yibo. Liu Mintao said that before the filming started, everyone only knew each other, but they didn't know much about each other. She knew that Wang Yibo was a well-known actor, and he was shy and restrained. After working together, this child who doesn't talk much and is relatively introverted brought her a lot of touch: "One time when we went to a scene to film, I walked in front, and there was a burst of rice smell in front of me, because it was almost time for dinner. , I muttered a few words to myself, 'What is this delicious? It smells so good'. After the filming of the scene at noon, I went back to the resting place to eat, and there was a bowl of beef stew on the table. I asked later, I realized it was delivered by Yibo. I thought he must have heard me when I muttered. He didn’t say anything, and gave you me bowl when he turned around. He is the kind of child who works silently and is very sensitive. , He is very careful, he is full of kindness and willing to give to others, I am very moved."
Chen Shuo (played by Wang Yibo) and his mother (played by Liu Mintao) are busy in the restaurant.
Liu Mintao said that the mother-child relationship in "One and Only" not only moved the audience, but also deeply moved her. She hopes that young people in every family will not be disappointed in life, but should have hope and expectations for life. You can live a good life: "People can find joy, warmth and support from suffering, and these are also things that family members can give to each other. It doesn't mean that I have to ask for it when I was born. In family relationships, we must know gratitude. Family members support each other. The greatest power to live a good life." She sighed with a smile, playing the role of Du Lisha really brought her a big surprise, she remembered that Dapeng showed her a part of Du Lisa's play during the later dubbing, she did not expect that after the cut The finished film was so pleasantly surprised, "It turned out that I acted like this at that time, and I was quite happy."

Translated Excerpts from the Beijing Premiere of One and Only
To be on the big screen, does it feel like you've gotten to fulfill one of your dreams as an actor? Yibo: I think it is a very fortunate thing, for me at this time in my life, to be able to do a combination of things that I enjoy is a very happy thing. Actually, it reminds me of my childhood dream, of a passionate summer where at that time I enjoyed dance. I took part in dance classes during middle school vacation. I spent the entire break in the studio. Similar to Chen Shuo, I would go to class after class, dancing from 2PM to 10PM or so. Just like Chen Shuo, I never found it tiring, as if I couldn't feel tired while doing something that I enjoyed. After watching [the movie], there's the sense that Yibo is Shuoshuo, Shuoshuo is Yibo.
(To Liu Mintao, actress who plays Chen Shuo's mother) Give us your review on Yibo's performance. LMT: The first impression I got from Yibo is that he is quite shy, and quite introverted. He doesn't usually express himself, he's not the type to chat with you a lot. He's quite a thoughtful person, I think, because we haven't had a lot of interactions in private. This is the sense that I got. He's very diligent, and his eyes are full of--I think of something very pure/sincere. Actors--not just actors--I think it is something we all need, that it is something worth cherishing. Da Peng: Let me add something, whenever I see Shuoshuo, no matter what the scene is, his eyes sparkle like he has stars in his eyes. Some scenes we film altogether, like the scenes in Chen Shuo's home, we filmed them all at once, including the scene with Uncle. Because we have to create the set, so in actuality, Shuoshuo and his mother's first scene is the emotional scene that everyone likes, where his mother is singing and shining onstage, and Shuoshuo sees his mother's efforts for him and ends up crying. This was actually their first scene, so they hadn't yet filmed any of the scenes at home, so there was this challenge right from the get go. The performance that day--Yibo completed it in one take. He was able to express these sentiments right away, and exceeded our expectations. So one can imagine that he must have done a lot of work on his own prior to filming, thinking about this role, to understand what his experience must feel like in this scene. For that day I feel a bit apologetic, because it was quite a large scene, where onstage with his mother there were a lot of wedding guests. But once Shuoshuo came, he cleared it in one take. I felt as though it couldn't be this easy, that filming could go so smoothly, so I tried to find different reasons to refilm the scene, to get Chen Shuo to perform a few more times. Otherwise, if we managed to finish it in one take, I was afraid it might get to his head. (said jokingly) But actually the scene that ends up in the movie is from their first take. MC: So you ended up using the first take? Da Peng: Yes MC: Wow, let's give it up for Yibo. Of course, I believe that for Yibo to be able to grasp the emotion so well, must also be thanks to Mintao-jie's performance onstage (Yibo nods) LMT: The two of us hadn't interacted at that time. Because onstage I couldn't see him either. MC: So it is completely based on immersing yourself in the role. Da Peng: Don't people think they also seem like a mother-son pair? Audience: Yes! Da Peng: When I watched afterwards I felt that the casting of their roles really was great
Yibo: I think for the storyline between Chen Shuo and his mother, the part that moved me the most is when his mother says, "I don't dare watch." This moved me because my mother also doesn't dare to watch some of my competitions, so this line really struck me.
Yibo: Street dance gets divided into a lot of different styles. Breaking is something I am both familiar and unfamiliar with. Because when I first experienced street dance, I tried breaking but ended up giving it up because it was too difficult and I would end up with a lot of injuries, so went to hip hop. So this time when filming- One of the cast members interjects: Let me explain, because Yibo was injured while breakdancing, I don't think you can say this is giving up, rather he was forced to give it up because his knees were injured. Like this I don't think you could say that he gave up. Yibo: Ah…where was I? Oh yes, because when I was young I thought their moves were really cool, but because I was young and experienced injuries, it felt too difficult so I chose another style of dance. So this time I feel the greatest takeaway is getting to experience the dance that I enjoyed the most when I was young, getting to do this again I was very happy.
Yibo is asked to say some closing words: Yibo: Wow, you're asking someone who's not very good at speaking to give the closing statement. First, I'd like to thank everyone for their compliments. I also really cherish that summer. I have also had a similar time of passion/enthusiasm (Chinese title of the movie), when I was young, when I liked dance, I have also had a summer devoted to one thing, and that was dance. So it was very similar to filming One and Only. Like when Chen Shuo went to practice dance after finishing work, I also did the same after finishing school. Everyone in the cast worked well together because everyone loved dance, so worked hard together on this. So I am grateful to everyone, I enjoyed this time we had.
