Best bug types to cuddle with?
Well, I would say all of them, haha, but that’s not quite right. Certain bugs are very fragile—especially any type of winged bug Pokémon and if you don’t understand and have a great level of trust with that kind of partner they won’t enjoy being cuddled. Bug wings can be easily damaged and the only reason I can hug and love on my Beedrill like I do is because we’ve known each other for a long time and I know how to handle him.
Good bugs right out the gate though... Venonat, like many early-stage bug Pokémon, are very affectionate and clingy towards their trainers, and are at the perfect size for comfortably holding, but their stiff, fine hairs are kind of a hit or miss texture among trainers. Also be warned that if you are holding a Venonat and do something to make it feel threatened it will secrete a toxin in self defense—it definitely poses more danger to Pokémon than humans, as to us it’s little more than a persistent skin irritant, but remain on your toes around them.
Wimpod appreciate a good cuddling, granted that you’ve built up a level of trust with yours, which can be hard, but rewarding. Combee are another smaller bug that, while they possess fragile wings, because they live packed in such close proximity to one another, enjoy being close to their trainers which includes nuzzling and cuddling. Just be sure to let your Combee and Wimpod both come to you!
Most larger bug Pokémon species can be rather standoffish in attitude and definitely pack some saltier personalities but Heracross is not one such Pokémon. They’re a very excitable and physically affectionate species that might meet your needs if you want something bigger to hug! If you own a Heracross you might find it bumping you with its horn from time to time. That’s just a way of saying “hey, I want to play!”.
Galvantula are also pretty cuddly bugs and very soft, but you just need to be conscious that in their pre-evolved state they’re so tiny, and that means easy injury. The entire Leavanny line is also big on affection, but like with Joltic, just be careful with a tiny little Sewaddle!
All bugs do make nice cuddle partners if you get close enough with them and learn how to respect their various sensitivities and accommodate accordingly, but those are some good out-the-gate affectionate bugs.
