Who is the most affectionate? I imagine both of them are equally affectionate but in different ways. Like, Nick is almost always cuddling up with Jay and being romantic in all contexts, but Jay puts huge emphasis on being affection in cases that are specifically romantic, if that makes sense? Like, Nick is always cuddling with him for fun but Jay is affectionate as a way to be all romantic and charming.
Big spoon/Little spoon? Jay is definitely the big spoon. I don’t think this is even a question that needs to be asked.
Most common argument? They tend to not fight much but when they do it’s Nick having issues with Gatsby’s lies or certain aspects of his personality, haha. But his anger never lasts because despite Jay’s flaws he is still perfect to Nick and he really can’t handle being mad at or critical of anyone, especially to someone he loves as much as Jay.
Favorite non-sexual activity? Dancing, I’d imagine, or telling stories.
Who is most likely to carry the other? Gatsby carries Nick EVERYWHERE.
What is their favorite feature of their partner’s? Nick is canonly infatuated by Jay’s smile so there’s that. I’d imagine that Jay loves Nick for his sense of humor/personality.
What’s the first thing that changes when they realize they have feelings for the other? Welllll them both having feelings for each other means that Gatsby is starting to move on from Daisy which is definitely a huge thing for the both of them (but obviously more so for Jay).
Nicknames? & if so, how did they originate? You all already know this, omg. I really can’t see them using any type of nicknames besides from old sport… Maybe they call each other darling or dear occasionally? Idk.
Who worries the most? They both have their own anxieties but I’d imagine it to be Jay - he’s really good at pretending to be chill all the time but he actually worries about a lot of things, including but not limited to his worries about losing Nick.
Who remembers what the other one always orders at a restaurant? Each of them always get the same thing so they both always remember each others’ orders.
Who tops? Jay, I’m pretty sure this doesn’t even have to be debated.
Who initiates kisses? It’s kind of a mutual thing once they get more into the relationship, but in the beginning it’s Jay. Nick’s still a bit too nervous about everything in the first few stages.
Who reaches for the other’s hand first? Nick is literally ALWAYS reaching for Gatsby’s hand. Always.
Who kisses the hardest? Jay, definitely.
Who wakes up first? Nick. Jay has the weirdest sleeping schedule but Nick is pretty organized and enjoys getting up early.
Who wants to stay in bed just a little longer? Jay, he always whines over the fact that Nick gets up so soon.
Who says I love you first? Ohhh boy my headcanon of this is ALWAYS changing and it depends on the circumstances, really. If it’s during the book timeline I imagine it to be Nick because why would Jay tell Nick he loves him while all that’s happening with Daisy? But in an AU, especially ones where Jay survives (the best AU) I’d imagine it to be Jay. I also love the idea of it just kinda slipping out. Don’t get me wrong, big and dramatic love confessions make me WEAK but it’s also adorable to just have one of them be like “see you tomorrow, I love you, good night!” and then realizing, oh dammit i just said that….
Who leaves little notes in the other’s one lunch? (Bonus: what does it usually say?) Nick is always leaving these corny notes to Jay that are filled with either inside jokes, cheesy sappy love quotes, or both. Jay pretends to be all humiliated but he loves it so much.
Who tells their family/friends about their relationship first? Nick, and I imagine he does it in a surprisingly casual way too. like “oh yeah guess what? I’m dating Jay Gatsby now, no big deal” (it is in fact a big deal and everyone knows it but he breaks the news in the most chill way possible).
What do their family/friends think of their relationship? They’re really supportive! Jordan totally saw it coming and had been rooting for it ever since her and Nick’s failed fling. Daisy is a bit confused and surprised at first but overall she’s just like “okay cool, have fun” about it.
Who is more likely to start dancing with the other? I’d imagine Jay always starts dancing with Nick. Mainly just ‘cause he’s much more better at it and Nick feels awkward about initiating it, ha
Who cooks more/who is better at cooking? Nick!! Gatsby has always had servants cooking for him so he didn’t get much experience. All the cooking he may have learned in his childhood is almost completely forgotten. Nick, on the other hand, has been cooking for himself for a really long time.
Who comes up with cheesy pick up lines? Nick. he tries so hard to be overly romantic but he’s just…Not. Gatsby adores him anyway though, even thinks the corny stuff is super adorable.
Who whispers inappropriate things in the other’s ear during inappropriate times? JAY. OH MY GOD he is literally suuuuuch a tease. Drives Nick mad.
Who needs more assurance? Nick probably? Like yeah Jay has his own worries about a lot of things but he also has more self confidence than Nick, resulting in Nick overall needing more reassurance.
What would be their theme song? COUNTING STARS BY ONEREPUBLIC IS SUCH A NATSBY SONG OHHH MY GOD
Who would sing to their child back to sleep? Gatsby, the only reason for this being he is a better singer.
What do they do when they’re away from each other? Call each other a lot, write letters. They get lonely but they know they’ll see each other again so it’s never too tearful.
