Beckham II: 3 Nerves
The third part is finally here! I hope you enjoy.
Masterlist can be found here.
Tumblr media
9th February 2023
“Breaking news this lunch time, Sarina Weigman had named her squad for the Arnold Clark cup and included in the squad for the first time in nearly 4 years is Y/N Beckham.” England squads weren’t typically breaking news on the main news channels but this was no ordinary squad announcement. “Widely considered as one of the best players on the planet, Beckham has not been including in an England squad since the 2019 World Cup and her return dominated the press conference.”
Squad announcement press conferences are usually comminated by a few stories, the surprise inclusions, the ones who don’t quite make the cut. However when the list was read out it was immediately clear what all the questions would be about today as the eyes of world football turned to Sarina.
“Sarina can you tell us more about Beckham’s inclusion? Why has this decision been taken now after 4 years?”
“I know you’re all probably very interested in that so I’ll try and answer all of your questions. This hasn’t been a simple process for either party, I’d be lying if I said I hadn’t been watching her since I became England manager but it’s not that simple and we had to respect the fact that Y/N did not want to be called up. Over the past few weeks I’ve been working closer with her and we’ve agreed that now is the right time to see if we can make progress.”
“The squad has changed a lot since then but there are still players who would were in the squad in 2019, have you spoken to them about this?”
“I have not, I’d like to think that all players support each other and I know my players well enough to know that they will do all they can to make Y/N feel welcome in this environment both on and off the pitch.”
“Do you have any concerns around her desire to play for England and play for the badge. Will she have lost that fight in the past four years?”
“I can not prove that to you and I guess none of us will know the answer until she plays for England again but I would not pick any player I had those concerns about. I’ve watcher her play a lot for Barcelona and over this past year especially I’ve seen a freedom to her play. I just hope that we can all see that side of her in an England shirt.”
“David, were you shocked when the announcement was made?”
“I mean obviously we spoke about prior to the announcement but when she told me I wasn’t exactly shocked. It just annoyed me that people questioned her mentally because she is so strong now.”
…..
Everyone could tell you were anxious. Since the announcement on Thursday you’d been quieter than usual in training, your usual sweet laughter which your teammates loved had been replaced by a strained giggle and they could see you’d been putting pressure on yourself in every department.
Everything had to be perfect.
In the four days since your decision had been made public you’d received support from all your teammates but you could see they were also worried. Many of them had been here when you joined, they’d seen the aftermath and many of them had been your shoulder to lean on for months after.
Many of them watched on now as you retreated into your room, barely giving a second glance to the games currently taking place in the dining room, a tradition you were a usual member of the night before an away game.
Alexia and Mapi had noticed the changes just like everyone else, the three of you had a strong connection both on and off the pitch. Alexia had become an older sister figure to you and Mapi was your platonic soul mate. They knew your habits unlike anyone else and when the notebook you used for anxious tattoo scribblings had been out the entire journey to Mallorca it was clear your mind was elsewhere.
“You grab the pillows.”
“I’ll grab the blankets.”
The two of them scurried off to their own rooms, finding their entrusted items before meeting back at the door which they knew you would be behind. You wouldn’t have gone outside, your shy nature meant you struggled to have confidence in new cities, preferring to explore with others rather than alone as the sun went down.
Alexia knocked on the door, a moment of panic striking as they thought you weren’t going to answer before the door creaked open. Your wide-eyed figure stood in the crack, still in the tracksuit you’d travelled in rather than pyjamas.
“What’s going on?” The tree of you quite often spent the nights in each other’s hotel rooms, though those meetings were usually pre-planned.
Only you knew from the worried expressions on their faces this wasn’t a call to watch the latest film that had been released. “We’re worried about you.”
“I’m fine.”
You should have known that answer was never going to satisfy them. “Please can we come in.”
It wasn’t even worth trying to persuade them, not really. “Sure.” They couldn’t miss the sigh you let out as the door swung open. “Make yourself comfy.”
In the matter of minutes you’d gone from sprawling over the double bed alone to shuffling between the two players, being welcomed into the arms of Alexia as the three of you shuffled under the duvet.
“We’re worried about you.” MarÍa admitted, smoothing down the hair draped around your face. “What’s going on?”
“Nothing.”
“Are you sure because I bet if we looked in that notepad we’d find more anxious doodles than before. You’ve barely spoken two words to anyone since the news broke out.”
“I read an article-“
“Didn’t I tell you to stop that.” Alexia scolded you. “Those journalists don’t know anything about you.”
“But they don’t know that.” You argued back. “They’ll be reading about how ‘cocky’ I am on and off the pitch, how I flaunt my money, how I think I ‘own the team’.”
“If they believe that then they really have no eyes. Then they’ll see how you’re one of the shiest players on the team, they’ll learn how you could live in mansion but donate so much money to charity, they’ll see how much you work on the team as a whole. You do everything for football and they need to see that.”
“If they don’t love the person they’ll come to know then that’s on them.” Alexia agreed with her.
“Are you sure this isn’t about a certain blonde centre back?” MarÍa teasingly questioned you. “Maybe this isn’t about you being nervous about the articles and more about going into gay panic around Miss Williamson.”
“I told you that in confidence that you’d never bring it up again.” It was true, a few years ago you had confided in the two of them that you used to have a small (very large) crush on Leah at the time.
“And I’m tired of you being the third wheel in our flat, you’ve rejected every opportunity for me to set you up with one of my friends so now I have to think that it’s because you’re still pining for the girl.”
“I’m not pining for anyone, it was a stupid crush which has gone in the four years that I haven’t spoken to the girl.”
“Would you like to speak to her again?” Alexia asked.
“I mean obviously I’m going to have to, she’s the captain of the team.”
“Message her now.”
“No.”
“Why not?” I could only think of a million reasons why I wasn’t about to do that.
“Because like I said, I haven’t spoken to her in nearly four years and it would be weird for me to just message her the night before we see each other again.”
“So lets role play it then, you walk into the hotel tomorrow and she’s there, what are you going to say?” Alexia asked the question you’ve been asking yourself all week.
“Hi.”
Both of them looked like they wanted to tear out both their own and your hair. “Ok you can’t just say that.”
“What else do you want me to say?”
“How are you? Ask her about her life?”
“You want me to speak to the girl for the first time in years and ask her basically how she’s been since we went from speaking every day to unfollowing each other on social media and avoiding any chance of meeting since then.” You needed better friends in situations like this. “I’m not going heavy on our first conversation.”
“You will need to talk about.”
“I know but it’s not just her I need to have that conversation with, I was close with a lot of them and now I’m not. They should be just as involved in that conversation as Leah is.”
“Maybe you could design her a little tattoo, something like ‘I love Y/N’ on her forehead.” MarÍa teased you. “Matches your ‘I love Leah’ on your chest.”
“Shut up, just so you know I’ll never stop cockblocking you and Ingrid, I’ll be round for tea when I get back.”
“Bonnie told me she wants to live with me all the time by the way, said something about her mum abandoning her.”
“Fuck off MarÍa.”
….
The first person to reach out to you wasn’t exactly someone you expected. Mary Earps wasn’t exactly in your friendship group back in 2019, though because she was a part of that squad she was one of the players who you unfollowed in the following unfortunate events. You definitely therefore were not expecting to see her name pop up as you made your way through the airport, heading out to the car which would take you back to your parents’ house before you headed to the team hotel later on in the evening.
@1maryearps: See you later mate, we can’t wait to have you back x
Your emotions were so all over the place that maybe you should have expected this simple message to bring tears to your eyes. Maybe that meant you’d have at least one person on your side tonight.
You spent most of the meal with parents and siblings trying to do anything to avoid the thoughts about what was happening tonight coming back. You spoke to Harper about her homework, Cruze about his latest holiday and Romeo about his girlfriend. Brooklyn could almost sense your nervousness and kept up the conversation, which was all fine until you had to leave.
They knew how big this moment was and each gave you an individual goodbye before you got back into the car. As much as you would have liked to have taken your dad’s offer to drive you, this was all about being normal and being drove by David Beckham didn’t really give off that vibe.
You’d made this drive a million times before, only this time it seemed to take half the time and before you knew it the doors to St George’s Park were in view.
The only person in view was a single man holding a video camera, obviously preparing for the players’ arrivals This was hard and yet you knew this was probably the easiest step, he didn’t know you. You got out from the car, flashing a small smile to the camera as it trained on your every move, making sure to say a thank you to the driver, you turned to head inside.
“How are you feeling Y/N?” The camera man asked.
“Excited.” You couldn’t exactly tell him you were shaking inside. “I can’t wait to be back with this amazing team.”
“Two goals from you today….”
“All thanks to my teammates.” It was only the truth, you were basically set up for both goals by Aitana, you couldn’t do anything but put them in the back of the net.
“Good luck.”
“Thank you very much.”
If you were known for one thing it would be your punctuality, in fact you almost had a fear of being late. Maybe you’d done it on purpose this time to avoid greeting teammates in front of the camera but you were the first here judging by the table in the reception area being full of keys.
“Y/N it’s good to finally meet you in person.” Anja, one of the members of the England management team greeted you. “I hope you’re feeling well.”
“I’m glad to be here,” You settled for that. “I can’t wait to get back on that pitch now.”
“Well we’re glad to have you here. Here’s your key, we’ll meet in the dining area for a quick debrief at 8 and then you’ll have the night to yourself. Training schedules for the week are in your key pack.”
“Thank you.”
This place hadn’t changed one bit, from the entrance all the way up to your rooms you could trace the steps without even looking. You could hear noise out in the corridor but you stayed put, waiting for the clock to tick to 7:50 before making your way downstairs. With it being ten minutes early no one was there but Sarina and the coaching staff. Could this technically count as your first impression to them?
Their eyes trained on you as you entered the room. “Hey, thank you once again.”
“Stop saying thank you, this is all on you.” Sarina instructed, giving you a firm yet welcoming hug, an action which was repeated by the others. “Go and take a seat.”
“Thank-“ Maybe not. “Ok Sarina.”
You didn’t really know what to expect from the others, the squad was definitely a mixture of youth and experience. However even some of the more established players like Alessia and Ella were unknown to you on a personal level.
Thankfully maybe the first ones in were some of the younger players, Jess Park and Ebony Salmon were both the epitome of excitement as they entered the room saying a quick hello to the staff before slightly pausing when they found me sat on the first row.
“Hi.” You knew it was on you to make the effort. “It’s nice to meet you both.”
“Nice to meet you too.” Jess said taking the seat next to me. “You’re killing it at Barcelona.”
“Thank you, I’ve enjoyed watching you play this season. You’ll be an asset at city when you return.” You loved studying young players and watching their development. Jess was no difference in that, plus it helped to build up that connection on the team.
The volume in the room increased as more players entered. Some like Laura Coombs and Katie Zelem gave you a quick smile before taking their seats, other youngsters gave you a quick welcome.
The first real re-introduction you had was when Millie and Rachel entered, your eyes instantly connecting and it was Rachel who led the two of them over. You had always loved the two of them and almost let out a sigh of relief when they both greeted you with hugs, repeating how glad they were to see you. Lucy and Jordan followed suit, the two of them messing about and pulling you into a tight hug before taking their seats.
It was however the final people to enter the room that you were the most nervous about. Maybe you should have been thankful that when Keira, Georgia and Leah entered the room the meeting was about to start and all you could do was send a glancing look their way before Sarina had eyes on her.
She went through the logistics, just like happens every time before she got into the depths of the squad. “It would seem like this is the squad for reintroducing yourself. Laura hasn’t been with us since 2020 and Y/N in 2019. We just want everyone to remember that they’re here for a reason and we all play for England, we’re all a team.”
You blocked everything else out, vaguely scribbling down on your phone some notes about the timings and rooms you were needed in but it was all a bit of a blur. You took your time at the end speaking to some of the other girls, no-one seemed to be making a huge fuss about the situation but the trio had disappeared again and you knew you had to speak to them tonight before this started to interfere with the rest of the camp.
Thankfully you managed to find them, the three of them tucked away in the corner of the dining room, huddled around a laptop playing something in German.
“Hey.” Your voice almost cracked as you broke through the silence. “It’s good to see you all.”
You should have predicted really that Keira and Georgia would be your road in, though the two of them were fierce on the pitch they really were softies off it and you were almost knocked off your feet when they bounded up to you, both their arms wrapping around you in a hug.
“We can’t believe you’re actually here.” Georgia said. “This is just crazy.”
“It’s definitely different.” Leah finally joined in and that was the moment you knew even as she joined in the hug, she was the one who would be the toughest to crack. She wasn’t going to let you in just as easy but the captain part of her probably forced her to not let it show around others. “Glad to have you back on the team.”
“Thank you.”
“Take a seat.” Keira glanced to the free chair next to Leah. “We were just watching Georgia make a fool of herself, want to join?”
“Yeah I’d like that, I’d like that a lot.”

Princesa III
(FC Barcelona x reader)
Tumblr media
Part 1 Part 2
After arriving to SGP Sarina gave you room number and she told you that your roommate hadn’t arrived yet.
The moment you entered your room you sent a text to Barca’s group informing your teammates that you had arrived, before even having the opportunity to do something else Alexia called you.
“Hija! He visto que ya has llegado al lugar de concentración” (Daughter! I have seen that you have already arrived at the place of concentration)
“Hi mama! Yes, I was about to call you! Everything went great during the flight”
“That’s nice to hear hija. So, who is your roommate?”
“Well, my roommate hasn’t arrived yet, so I don’t know mama. “
You continued talking with Alexia until you heard someone opening the door, quickly you realized who your roommate was, it was the one and only Lucy Bronze.
“Mama, debo irme mi compañera de cuarto ha llegado. Te hablaré más tarde. Si?” ("Mom, I must go, my roommate has arrived. I'll talk to you later. Yes?")
“Alright hija when you have the chance text either Ona or me who your roommate is. Take care hija”
Immediately as the call ended Lucy spoke.
“Nice to meet you kid! I’m Lucy Bronze” she said while stretching her hand.
“Hi! I’m y/n l/n” you nervously answered.
“So, with who were you talking with kid? I’m sure that you weren’t speaking English.”
“I was talking with mama, I mean with Alexia, and we were talking in a mix of Spanish and English” you answered.
“Alexia as in Alexia Putellas as in La Reina?”
“Yup”
While she started setting her things down you continued talking with Lucy. You learned that she currently was playing for City and that Keira Walsh is her girlfriend. You continued talking until she said that it was time for the first team meeting.
When you guys arrived to conference room you stayed next to Lucy as the only persons that you knew from the group were Maya, Alessia and Tooney as they played for MU.
At one point of the meeting Sarina asked you to present yourself as you were the only new person of the group.
“Hi! I’m y/n l/n, I’m from Manchester and I was part of MU academy. I play as a striker, and I’m currently signed with Barcelona” you said nervously.

You fitted in perfectly with the Lionesses. Leah as captain made sure that everyone received you well, Alessia and Tooney assumed the roles of your older sisters and showed you how everything worked. Finally, Lucy and Keira they became like your aunts however you couldn’t help but to find similarities between them and Ingrid and Mapi.
Before you knew it was time for the friendly against Switzerland. As you were in the bus on the way there Alexia called you.
“Princesa! Good luck in the game I just wanted to tell you that we are going to watch the game and we will be rooting for you.”
“Thanks mama! According to Sarina I’ll be making my debut during the second half of the game.”
“Perfect! Remember that’s it’s your time to shine hija make sure that everyone realize why you are la princesa de Barcelona.”
Your debut happened just as you told Alexia. You entered the game in the 65th minute. It seemed that Leila could see the future as you did score against Switzerland.
Just as the game ended with a win for the Lionesses and after celebrating with your teammates you heard a familiar voice.
“Hey Princesa come here!”
You turned around saw that it was Ana-Maria as soon as you realized that it was her you ran towards her and hugged her.
“Princesa! I’m so proud of you, you just had your debut, and it was spectacular!”
“Thank you, auntie!”
AMC presented you to some of her teammates and as she did, she gloated about Barcelona having the princess, the player who was going to make history.
— — — — — — — — — — — — — — — — — — — — — — — — — — —
The Lionesses were able to win two out of two friendly matches and it’s safe to say that you left a great impression to the team. Before you knew it was time to go back to Barcelona and before you could leave to the airport Lucy asked you for your number as she wanted to keep in touch with you.
As soon as you landed you sent Alexia a text message indicating that you only had to pick up your luggage and after picking it up you walked towards the exit. As soon as you spotted Alexia and Olga you ran towards Ale.
“Hija! I’m so proud of you!” she greeted while she hugged you.
“Thank you mama, I had so much fun, but I missed you a lot”
“How about this we go out to eat dinner, you sleep at our apartment and tomorrow I take you to the training session.”
You separated from Alexia and turned towards Olga.
“Is this ok with you Olga? I don’t want to bother” you shyly asked her.
“Nonsense kid! You are always welcomed to spend time with us” she reassured you.
Alexia couldn’t help but to smile while she saw yours and Olga’s interaction.
“Mama, before I forget it take this. It’s the jersey of my international debut, it’s the one I used against Switzerland I want you have it.” You said after taking out the jersey from your backpack.
“Thank you hija, I’ll treasure this forever. When we get back to the apartment you better sign the jersey frilla” Alexia answered with tears on her eyes.

As soon as you entered the locker room Jana and Bruna tackled you.
“Felicidades hermanita! We are so proud of you!” Bruna said.
“Si hermana! You played amazingly!” Jana said at the same time.
After they got off you and you could stand up Leila approached you and turned towards Ana
“Hey Ana! Just as I said la princesa scored against you!” she jokingly said.
“Ouahabi just wait for her to play against Spain I’m sure you guys won’t be able to stop her!” Ana-Maria answered.

Courage of Fools - Alessia Russo/Reader
prompt: R always orders flowers on Fridays for Alessia since they're long distance. One Friday, Alessia doesn't get a delivery.
warnings: none
words: 2096
Tumblr media
“Come on, Less!” Leah called over her shoulder at the younger blonde who had been trailing behind checking her phone. “We’re at your house, mate. You’re the one who’s got to let us in.”
Alessia, however, wasn’t paying attention as she was checking the text messages that she had received while she was in practice today. But there was nothing from the one person she was hoping to have one from.
Alessia’s day had started out abysmally. After all she had been missing her person for weeks now. It had made her move to Arsenal a bit rough as she had to adjust to an entirely new team and home and the one person who was supposed to be here to go through it with her just had to be back in Los Angeles. She was getting radio silence from you all morning as well, but she didn’t let it get to her with the time difference and everything. You must have just fallen asleep before you sent Alessia a text to wake up to; it didn’t happen often, but it had happened before. Besides, it was Friday and that meant flowers.
Only when she opened the door, there were no flowers to greet her at the door like there normally were. The tradition had started when she had first moved back to England in late 2020. Her partner hadn’t been able to follow her. So Alessia had been pleasantly surprised to find the flowers waiting for her at her door that first Friday morning. But since then, Alessia always had a bouquet of flowers waiting for her at the door on Friday mornings whenever the two were apart.
Then, on top of that, Alessia had a horrible practice. She had been worrying all throughout the practice as to why she hadn’t gotten flowers that morning. Her mind immediately assuming the worst. But surely, if you had been injured then she would have been called. Maybe you met someone else, and this is how you breaking up with her then?
So, she had a horrible practice.
There were still no text messages from you either.
And, of course, Alessia had to offer up her place for the girls to come and hang out at once practice had wrapped up. But that had been before she didn’t get her flowers on Friday morning.
That’s why she was the last one to the door as her new Arsenal teammates had gathered on the porch waiting for the blonde striker to let them in to the house. Alessia slightly fumbled with the keys as her mind was still distracted. Maybe if she hadn’t been so distracted, she would have noticed the extra pair of shoes in the closet that definitely hadn’t been there this morning when she had gotten her own pair out.
“Okay, what’s wrong?” Beth finally asked.
Both of the elder lionesses had been quite aware that something else was affecting Alessia’s mood for the day, but neither of them could help the young striker if she didn’t open up to them. After all, Beth and Leah had promised each other that they would take care of Alessia once she joined them at Arsenal; same as they did for Lotte.
“She’s probably just missing (Y/N),” Lotte teased her friend before she started making kissy faces.
Alessia rolled her eyes as she shoved Lotte away. Lotte knowing of your and Alessia’s relationship since she had to unfortunately watch the two of you pining after each other for nearly two years before either of you had made a move on the other while you three were in college.
“(Y/N)?” Leah repeated the name. She shared a look with Beth as they settled onto the couch. Neither of them had ever heard Alessia talking about someone that she was involved with. “Who’s (Y/N)?”
“No one,” Alessia said a bit too quickly.
Alessia loved showing you off, but the two of you had been keen on keeping your relationship private. Alessia wasn’t sure how much privacy the two of you would have once her national teammates knew. It was bad enough when Tooney had caught the two of you while filming for her vlog because then Alessia had to convince her friend to delete the footage that she had.
“Lotte, who’s (Y/N)?” Leah asked as she turned to her fellow defender.
Lotte froze at that. She was quite aware that the two of you preferred privacy and Alessia had already refused to tell Leah and Beth about you. But it was Leah, and she would force Lotte to run extra the following day in practice and Lotte knew it.
“Just someone from college.”
“Just someone from college?” Leah asked. Her eyes darted between the two younger players. “But obviously someone who means enough if Alessia’s in a bad mood.”
“It’s none of your business,” Alessia snapped. She really didn’t want to deal with this, especially seeing as the two of you hadn’t gotten the chance to talk about finally introducing you to her teammates.
“Lessi, we just want to be able to help you,” Beth said softly. Alessia trained a glare on the other forward. Alessia knew that Beth and Leah were coming from a good place, it just happened to be at one of the worst times for her. “We can’t help you if we don’t know what’s going on.”
Before Alessia had a chance to say anything back, the four were frozen as the doorknob rattled behind them. Leah was absolutely certain that she had locked the door behind her once she entered the house.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
(Y/N) POV
I faltered slightly once I caught sight of more than just Alessia in our living room. Considering Alessia’s Mercedes was outside, I knew that she was home, but I hadn’t been expecting her to have company. After all, I had been hoping to surprise her.
“(Y/N)!”
Lotte was the first one to get over the shock of seeing me as she barreled into me for a hug. I had to admit, it had been far too long since I had seen the defender. After all, she and Alessia had ended up at different clubs after they left UNC for the WSL, and I had spent a majority of my time with Alessia when I was able to visit.
I didn’t have time to rest because as soon as Lotte was out of my arms, Alessia was jumping in them. I stumbled back a couple of steps as Alessia wrapped her arms around my neck and her legs around my waist.
“Don’t worry, I’m not going anywhere for a while,” I softly said before I pressed a kiss right under her ear.
Alessia stayed where she was wrapped around me for a few more moments, but I was becoming increasingly uncomfortable due to the audience we had. Had it just been Lotte, I wouldn’t have minded, but we did have a couple of Alessia’s other teammates here as well.
“I thought you forgot,” Alessia admitted once she unwrapped herself from me and took the flowers from my hands. I groaned as I rubbed my shoulder once she punched it after looking at the bouquet for a moment. “Or that something bad had happened, asshole. You didn’t text me and they weren’t waiting for me this morning.”
“I can’t surprise you?” I asked, causing Alessia to shake her head. Alessia did like to know my schedule so she knew when she could call me, but it often meant that I had to pay attention to her schedule as well or else she would forgo sleep just to talk to me all night. “We wrapped up recording yesterday morning. I called Richard down at Leaf in Peace and let him know that I wouldn’t need the flowers delivered this morning and that I’d come by so I could pick some out for you myself. Caught a red eye, dropped my bags off here, and then went to get the flowers.”
“You could have told me you were coming.”
I only shrugged at that as my gaze turned to the older two players in the living room who were watching us. I shuffled past Alessia to hold my hand out to the two.
“I’m (Y/N).”
The two only stared at my hand before turning to each other. I was about to drop my hand, but the taller blonde grabbed a hold of it before I could. I was a bit surprised when she pulled me closer to her.
“Hurt our Less and we’ll hurt you,” the taller one said. I quickly nodded my head in understanding. Honestly, she was a lot scarier than Mario had been when he threatened to hurt me if I ever treated Alessia wrong. “Even the slightest hint‒”
“Leah!” Alessia cut the woman off and she got in between us to try and push us apart. “Let (Y/N) go.”
The taller blonde, Leah, I assumed, still had a tight grip on my hand.
“Leah, let go. Now.”
Leah didn’t until the other blonde grabbed the back of Leah’s shirt to pull her back. I slightly winced as I rubbed my hand.
“Are you okay?” Alessia asked as she took the hand that Leah had been holding to look over it. I sent her a soft smile as I nodded. The handshake really hadn’t hurt that bad. Or well, if it did, Alessia would never know that. “The bitch is Leah,” Alessia ignored the gasp from the blonde who had just been shaking my hand, “and the other is Beth.”
“Meado?”
“Oh, so you do pay attention to me when I tell you about my teammates.”
“Give me some credit. I’ve learned a lot about soccer since I’ve met you.”
“Football.”
“Whatever.”
“So, when’s the album coming out?”
Alessia and I both looked over at Lotte who was watching us. I shrugged because I wasn’t entirely sure. I had only just finished recording it, but that didn’t mean that it was ready to be available for the world to listen to just yet.
“I get to listen to it first, yeah?”
“How’s that fair? I’m the girlfriend!”
“Yeah, but I’m the matchmaker!”
I rolled my eyes at the two of them as they continued to bicker about which one of them would get to hear the album first. All three of us knew that it would be Alessia since there was no way that I wouldn’t be playing the songs for her once we were alone.
“You’re a singer?” Beth asked. I turned to look at her before I nodded. I had gotten a record deal during the pandemic and had finally started my music career. “You have an album coming out?”
“No release date yet,” I admitted to her. I actually loved to talk about my music to others especially since most of it was about Alessia. “There’s still quite a bit of work to do for it. We really just recorded acoustic versions of what the finished songs will be.”
“Are you using Alessia just to get famous?”
Lotte and Alessia both stopped their argument at the question. I knew that this would be something that some would think, especially early in my own career.
“Leah!”
“It’s okay, Lessi,” I said as I wrapped my hand around Alessia’s wrist so that I could pull her close to me. “It’s a fair question considering we’ve kept our relationship a secret for so long and you are one of the best strikers in England right now.”
“No, it isn’t,” Alessia said, as she turned from me to glare at Leah. “Just because Leah has no idea that we’ve been dating since college doesn’t give her the right to ask if you’re just using me.”
The room grew tense as neither Alessia or Leah refused to back down from the other.
Ultimately it was Lotte who broke the silence.
“So, what’s the album about?”
I grinned as I looked over at her.
“What do you think?”
“No,” Lotte groaned as I pressed a kiss to Alessia’s cheek. “Not a whole album of songs just for Alessia. Didn’t you write her enough while we were in college?”
“Lotte, the album is literally about us getting together,” I pointed out. I knew that Lotte was aware of what the album was about considering I had been working on it since college. “At least you named it.”
“I did?”
“Oh, yeah,” I nodded as Alessia threw a slight glare at me. “Courage of Fools. That’s what you said when we both finally tried to ask each other out, right?”
blind date/leah williamson
*leah williamson x fem!reader *what happens if you are on a blind date and stood up by the person you were supposed to meet but a beautiful blonde comes to you rescue? *fluff ig? *1.3k words (1.7k with the bonus) .................................
My first blind date. I don't think I've ever been this nervous. Why did Beth even set me up? I didn't need it. I mean, yeah, I'm not dating anyone at the moment and I'm not good at flirting but did she have to make it that obvious and set me up with someone? I never met that girl and Beth didn't even want to tell me her name. How was I supposed to know who she was?
I sighed before I turned around on my bed, almost falling out of it. My hand reached for my phone, which was laying on the nightstand. In my stress, I dialed the first number that came to my mind. "Hello?" I almost threw my phone across the room. That was not my best friend. "Hello? Is someone there?" I had to answer now, right? "Hi. Eh it's y/n. We met like 2 weeks ago, on that event. I was there with Beth and Viv." I mentally facepalmed myself for calling HER out of all people. The women I've had a crush on for a year now, captain of the Lionesses, Leah Williamson. "Oh yeah y/n, I remember. What's up?" Was that my mind making things up or did her tone change when I said my name? It was probably nothing. "Actually I wanted to Beth. I must've dialed the wrong number sorry for disturbing you." I was about to hang up when I heard her say something. "No no, don't worry you didn't disturb me at all. I was pretty bored actually."
"Oh, okay." My response was followed by an awkward silence. "So what are you up to this evening?" Should I tell her about the blind date? Would she even be bothered to know about it? "I'm actually going on a date."
"Oh you're dating someone? I didn't know that."
"Surprised? Don't you think that people ask me out?" I chuckled as Leah searched for a plausible answer.
"Eh- I- No, I do. It's just-"
"Don't worry, it's just a stupid blind date Beth set me up for. Apparently I'm not capable of finding the 'true love' myself." That made Leah laugh and I couldn't help but join in. Her laugh was really infectious, I had to admit that. "Where does your mysterious date take you, if I'm allowed to know?"
"We're going to the new restaurant in town."
"Oh the Italian one? I only heard good things about it but you'll have to tell me if they're true once you come back."
"I will do that. Alright, I'm gonna have to hang up now. I have to get ready if I wanna be there at 9."
"Well have fun then. It was nice talking to you, maybe we could meet up in the near future?"
"Yeah I would love that. I'll let you know when I'm free. Bye Leah."
"Bye y/n."
That definitely went better than expected but now I really had to get going. I stood up and walked over to my closet. I picked a nice navy blue dress that I hadn't worn in a while and matching high heels. my makeup was done 20 minutes later and my hair only took 15. With enough time to spare, I decided to drive to the restaurant and wait for her there.
.................................
"Hi, I have a reservation at 9 under the name y/l/n."
"Ah yes. Please follow me."
I followed the nice women to our table and sat down. "Would you like to order something to drink while you wait?"
"Yes, just a water please."
And with that she left. I looked around the restaurant and tried to calm my nerves by concentrating on the decoration, the color of the walls, literally anything. I fidgeted with the rings on my fingers while I watched the door carefully as if I could miss her walking in. The waitress came back with my water but I just took one sip before placing it in front of me. The minutes passing felt like hours and I got more and more nervous. Multiple people walked in but they all sat at different tables. Every time I heard the door open, I looked up and hoped that it would be her but it never was. After a while, I looked on my phone and saw that it was already 9:45 pm. She wasn't coming. I felt the entire hope just disappearing with that realization. I got ditched by a person I didn't even know. I did my hair and makeup for nothing. I was excited and stressed for absolutely no reason. Disappointed by how the evening turned out, I leaned down to pick up my purse. That was when I heard a voice. "Sorry that I'm so late. The traffic was awful." I looked up to see the bluest eyes I had ever seen. Wait, I knew those eyes. And that blonde hair. And that voice. "Leah? What the hell are you doing here?" For a second I completely forgot my crush on her and stared at her like she was some alien from outer space. "I'm here to save your night."
"Elaborate please." I leaned back in my chair while she sat down on the one in front of me. "Well your date didn't come, did she?" I shook my head and another wave of disappointment hit me. "Definitely her loss. But anyway, I'm here now. I can't just let you sit at this table, all alone, that would be mean."
"You know when you said 'near future', I thought you meant next week or something but not tonight." She chuckled and I couldn't help but smile. "Yeah, I wasn't planning this either trust me. But let's see where the night brings us, shall we?"
"Alright, fine with me."
.................................
The evening was simply amazing. Leah and I talked about everything and I felt like I was on cloud nine. The food was delicious and the three hours we spent together felt like 10 minutes. She offered to pay but I didn't accept. Instead I paid for both of our meals. As we made our way out of the restaurant, our hands brushed against each other and little fireworks erupted in my whole body. We walked side by side in a comfortable silence until we reached my car. "So this is it, right?" I turned around and looked straight in Leah's eyes. Big mistake. I could feel my cheeks turning crimson red and Leah trying to hide her cheeky smile was just a confirmation that I was blushing. "I guess so." She took a deep breath. "y/n, I really really liked talking to you and all of this felt so, so-" She searched for the perfect word but I already knew it. "Natural?"
"Exactly. That's why I would love to take you out sometime in the near future. And this time I mean next week and not tomorrow night." A big smile made its way onto my face. "I would love that."
"But how about I make it up to you."
"Make what up to me?"
"You paid, so obviously I'm going to give you something back."
"Leah I really don't want your money, I-"
"Oh don't worry, I wasn't talking about money."
Before I could say something, she leaned towards me and my brain just turned off. I felt her soft lips on mine and I instantly knew that it was going to be favorite feeling of all time. I kissed her back and arms made their way around her neck. We only parted when air became a problem but my arms stayed exactly where they were. As soon as we locked eyes and I couldn't help but notice the sparkle in hers. "That was way better than any amount of money."
"I hope so cause I was planning on doing it again." We both smiled at each other and I was sure that this evening couldn't have been any better.
.................................
Bonus:
"Leah are you sure that they're gonna like me?" I anxiously looked at her and she took my hands in hers. "Princess, they're going to like you just as much as I do. I have no idea how they couldn't." She squeezed my hands reassuringly and I felt a part of the nervousness leaving my body. "Alright if you say so. Then let's go." I put a smile on my face and followed Leah into the locker room. She knocked and several women answered. "Come in!" She turned to me one last time and I just nodded, not sure if I could form actual words right now. She opened the door and we stepped inside. "Hi girls, I already told you that I wanted you to meet someone very special to me. This is y/n. My girlfriend." As soon as those words left her mouth I could feel every pair of eyes on me. "Hi, it's so nice to finally meet you." Beth walked to me and engulfed me into a big hug. "Finally! I thought you'd never show yourself here, god." I laughed and hugged her back. After that, I answered a lot of questions from everyone in the room. I also got into a nice conversation with Jen and Katie. We even agreed to meet each other for lunch the next week. All of the stress that I felt before this meeting was totally unnecessary. Everyone was incredibly welcoming and they were all so nice to talk to!
After an hour or so, Leah and I left. We still had to drive home, make dinner and watch the movie she promised me earlier that day. I intertwined our fingers as we walked to the car and started talking about her teammates nonstop until we got to her car. "You were so right, I shouldn't have worried about this. Your teammates are way nicer than you're always saying."
"Oh just wait until you get to know them a bit better. You're gonna be pranked by Katie, Lia is going to spam you with messages and-"
"I absolutely don't care. I love them."
"Well I only hope that you don't love them more than me." She grinned and I couldn't help but tease her a little bit. "Ah I don't know about that. Let's see, shall we?" I got a playful slap on my shoulder in response. "I'm joking babe. I'll always love you more, more than anyone actually."
"I love you too darling."
Millie Bright x Reader
Big Mouth
AN: Sparked from @wileys-russo’s comment on a previous fic ~ “Millie and her big mouth would most definitely out someone”
It was the 70th minute in the quarter final of the World Cup as the team were shuffling around preparing for a corner. England had been marked all evening and Columbia weren’t letting up anytime soon, you were in serious need of a new strategy and fast if you wanted to progress any further in the tournament. You were floating around in the box trying to break away from your marker whilst listening out for instructions from your captain, suddenly feeling hands on both your shoulders and being viscously shoved to the ground. You were in shock as the attack was completely unprovoked and the ball wasn’t even in play yet. The corner was delayed for a moment as you scrambled to your feet and as a warning was handed out to you, your teammates swarmed the ref to object. How could you push yourself to the floor? Is she completely oblivious to the abuse you had been receiving the entire match? As an arm pulled tightly on your shirt in another direction you were prepared to receive a yellow if it meant not allowing yourself to be bullied any longer. “Get the fuck off me!” you screamed, expecting to turn and face a Colombian player but surprised to see it was actually Millie pulling you towards her for protection. Your demeanour changed immediately as you let her move your body like a rag doll; wherever she wants you, you’re there. Squeezing you infront of her, the taller woman pressed her body tightly against your back and her arm wrapped around your stomach to keep you in place so you were finally unmarked for once in this game. Millie quickly grabbed Rachel too and directed her in front of you, sandwiching your body between them. “Hold Rachel” Millie directed bluntly, “tighter”. Squishing you so close together you could barely breath as Rachel reached around your back to hold you all in place too. Making three unmarkable players, others copied in doing the same to give you the best chance to advance. Millie muttered directions into your ear as close to your face as possible so the opposing team couldn’t hear your tactics, the last thing you remember before the ball was kicked in by Alex was Lucy joking about where she fitted into this threesome and laughing to herself.
‘I knew what I had to do but did I do it? Did I fuck!’ Being grabbed and pulled by the older women took all your attention away from what you were actually supposed to be doing and that was scoring, that’s why they were protecting you in the first place you idiot! As the ball was kicked, the girls instantly spread out taking the Colombians with them, leaving you stood by yourself in acres of space with a gawped expression on your face. Seeing the ball flying towards you, Millie’s voice hollered your name just in time for you to zone back in to your surroundings and plant the ball neatly into the net.
Back in the locker room discussions were flowing about your goal, winning the game and being awarded player of the match. Lucy was in the corner joking with the older girls about your spaced out look just before the ball hit your head, you were huddled at the other end of the room with your friends from youth level. “You did look so out of it before you scored” they laughed in agreement with Lucy. “I was taken off guard! I didn’t expect to be sandwiched between Mills and Rach” chuckling to yourself but the comment was met with quizzical eyes and confused expressions. “Were you-“ Hempo started before you finished the question for her. “Turned on? Yes” shrugging it off as no big deal. “Ohhh from the train? I saw you guys do that and could already imagine the memes! That wasn’t what I was gonna say though..” Hempo still had the confused look that seemed to never leave her face. “Wait, what did you think?” you asked, wondering if you’d just over shared unnecessarily. “That you got shoved pretty hard, I thought they took the wind out of you!” your best friend’s voice was muffled inside the clean shirt as she tried to push her head through the arm hole. Helping her get dressed like a mum would a toddler you told yourself that next time you must remember to let people finish their sentences so you don’t make a fool of yourself. Yet somehow you ignored your own advice and still kept talking. “Yeah I think I’m gay now!” you blurted out jokingly. “You’re gay?!” Millie bellowed behind you, luckily she didn’t seem to have heard the rest of the conversation but this still wasn’t ideal. “Who’s gay?” “(Y/n).” “(Y/n)’s gay?” “About time she told us!” Glancing around the room at all the voices chiming like dominoes at overhearing the gossip you were shocked to see how many people thought you already were. “Was it the train?” Lucy laughed with a smirk in the corner of the changing room she hadn’t moved from, “the TikTok edits are gonna loooove that!” The brunette was always showing off edits that had been made of her on the app, always seemed proud of them too. “Nooo! I’m not gay!” you exclaimed to make sure the whole team heard you. “You’ve gone all red tho!” Millie pointed out whilst poking your cheeks making you wish the ground would open up and swallow you. Backing away from the blonde who was making you flustered you ran for the showers, eager to wash away the thoughts and the sound of being outted. You’re not gay, you were just turned on by some very attractive women that you spend all your time with holding you in a certain way, that doesn’t make you gay and certainly not for your teammates!
The next day at training you felt the same forcefulness as the day before, two hands landed heavily on your shoulders shuddering you out of the daydream you were in. A blonde messy bun flopped in your face as her arms wrapped loosely around your collar bones. “Hey, sorry for shouting about you being gay, I shouldn’t have done that I was just on a high from winning” she said pulling you into her once more. Your body instantly became stiff with being so close to the defender again and as words jumbled in your mind unable to form a sentence, you just nodded in response. “I’m here if you wanna talk okay, love you” kissing your cheek before running off to join her group. Hempo was watching the interaction from afar and made her approach when she saw Millie had left. “You’ve got that same look on your face as yesterday” she laughed, “yknow just cause you fancy a woman doesn’t mean you’re gay” bending down to tie her shoelaces. “Thank you! That’s what I was trying to say yesterday, at least someone believes me” you breathed a sigh of relief. “I meant, gay and straight aren’t the only options (y/n). You’ve got bi, pans, demi and-” she trailed off listing sexualities you had never heard of before as the realisation hit that not even your best friend believed what you were saying. “Y/n, work with Bright over your link ups, they could use some work” Sarina shouted over the pitch interrupting your friend who was still spelling out the queer alphabet. Hempo looked at you sympathetically but also a little amused, “good luck!” she nudged as she ran back to her spot. You reluctantly walked over to your skipper who was as loud as ever, shouting encouragement and silly remarks about taking your time but once you got there you couldn’t even hold eye contact with her. Making an excuse that you didn’t feel well before running back inside, Millie’s eyes followed you, squinting in confusion. She knew something was wrong but didn’t know how to approach you in a way that would make you open up.
Once you’d arrived into the safety of your hotel room you threw yourself on the bed to scour the internet to look up all the unfamiliar words Lauren was telling you about earlier. Taking silly quizzes to find out what sexuality you are always came up as 100% NOT straight which made you even more confused. You’d never thought about it before but you’ve never really felt attraction to anybody, relationships never lasted long because you just didn’t feel anything. After a few hours of flicking through an LGBTQ+ encyclopaedia your eyes landed on a definition you were unable to divert your attention from:
Graces, gray A’s, or gray asexuals: Individuals whose sexual attraction exists within the gray area between sexual and asexual. They experience sexual attraction infrequently or not very strongly. Other terms that are used to describe this identity are semisexual, asexual-ish, and sexual-ish.
‘That would explain my very rare attraction to anybody I guess’, you thought to yourself. My demeanour and fashion sense could come across gay sometimes but that word doesn’t seem to define me, neither do any of the others. I must be a Gray A.. or Grace? That seems to fit well with me the most.
Sitting back to admire the screen while you soaked everything in there was a knock at your door. “Hey, can I come in?” nodding without words as the blonde entered your room and sat down on your bed. “Can you just talk to me please? I know I’ve upset you and just wanna make it right” she pleaded. “You haven’t upset me Mill” reassuring her as you sat down next to your friend. “It’s just..” you started to explain but hesitant with how to word it. “The other night when you pulled me into you it made me feel something.. different. It turned me on okay and then everyone started shouting about how I’m gay and I just got confused. But I’ve done some research and I think I know why now.” Planting the laptop onto her knees so she could look at what you had highlighted. “I’ve never heard of this?” she muttered while reading the definition. “Me neither, but it explains why I’ve never felt attracted to anyone and then suddenly I was” you shrugged, relieved with having an explanation now. “I do have that effect on people” she mocked swiping her hair from her shoulder. “You’ve got such a big head!” rolling your eyes and slapping her arm. “Hey!” she pouted, trying to slap you back but you’d moved out of her reach. “Matches your big mouth!” your laugh exaggerated but comforted in the fact that everything was out in the open and the awkwardness had floated away. “Okay, so we cool?” “We’re cool” “I won’t go grabbing you without warning anymore” “hmm. I liked it” punching her bicep lightly. “Good… cause my love language is touch” her hand glided from your shoulder down to your fingers, linking your hand in hers. “Really? Cause I hadn’t noticed!” your heavily sarcastic tone earned you a glare before being swamped in a huge bear hug.
I’d love a Lucy fic where she’s super protective over a young player, like on and off the pitch
overprotective guardian - lucy bronze
pairing: lucy bronze x gender neutral reader warnings: none!
Tumblr media
The global football community resonated with the name Lucy Bronze, a legendary figure whose very presence on the pitch had become a symbol of excellence. Renowned not only for her impressive technical skills but also for her unwavering determination, Lucy solidified her status as one of the most iconic figures in women's football history. Her illustrious career was punctuated with countless accolades, her name etched in the annals of the sport's history and her exploits celebrated by fans and peers alike.
However, it wasn't just her formidable reputation that set her apart. It was the nurturing, empathetic side of Lucy that made her exceptional, particularly when it came to guiding and mentoring younger players. She had become a mentor and a guardian angel for many emerging talents who looked up to her not only for her football prowess but also for the way she nurtured and cared for the next generation of players. Lucy's influence reached far beyond the pitch, where she extended a helping hand, provided guidance and offered unwavering support to those who aspired to follow in her illustrious footsteps.
Y/N Y/L/N, the rising star 24-year-old in the world of women's football, had taken the footballing world by storm with their incredible talent and a knack for scoring extraordinary goals. From their early days at Manchester City Women's Football Club, where they burst onto the scene with their electrifying performances, to their current role at FC Barcelona Femení, Y/N had consistently dazzled fans and experts alike with their remarkable ability to find the back of the net. Whether it was a stunning long-range strike that left goalkeepers in awe or a perfectly timed header, Y/N had an uncanny sense of positioning and an innate understanding of the game that allowed them to create moments of magic on the field. Their journey from Manchester to Barcelona had been a testament to their dedication, hard work and an unquenchable thirst for excellence. Y/N Y/L/N had not only become a goal-scoring sensation but also a symbol of hope and inspiration for aspiring young talents across the globe, proving that dreams could indeed be achieved with unwavering determination and unparalleled skill.
Lucy Bronze and Y/N Y/L/N's careers had followed an intertwined, enchanting journey. From the moment Lucy spotted Y/N's exceptional talent on the training ground from Academy Stadium to Camp Nou, it was clear that their paths were destined to cross. As Lucy invested her time and expertise in nurturing Y/N's burgeoning skills, a deep bond of camaraderie formed between them, transcending the conventional mentor-mentee relationship. The hours spent on the pitch, fine-tuning techniques and analysing the beautiful game were infused with laughter and shared aspirations.
As seasons passed, that connection evolved into something more profound and beautiful. Their friendship blossomed into a love that neither of them had anticipated but couldn't deny. It was a love that extended off the pitch, manifesting itself in stolen moments, whispered confidences and lingering touches. Yet, even as their affection deepened, Lucy couldn't help but feel an overwhelming urge to be fiercely protective of Y/N. Her nurturing nature extended beyond football - it was a notion of the profound love she felt for the younger player.
On the pitch, Lucy would watch Y/N like a guardian angel, ready to step in when needed, providing guidance and reassurance. She shielded Y/N from the intense pressures of the sport, ensuring that their passion for football remained undiminished. Off the field, Lucy's protective instincts transformed into a nurturing, caring love. She stood by Y/N through the challenges, celebrating the triumphs and offering solace in the face of adversity. Their love, a beautifully woven tapestry of shared dreams and unwavering support, was a testament to the power of sports to bring people together, transcending the boundaries of mentorship and evolving into a love story as inspiring as the goals they scored together.
Their love story blossomed amid the backdrop of their football careers, both incredible and demanding. Lucy and Y/N had forged a bond that went beyond the pitch, a love that thrived under the spotlight and behind closed doors. They would sneak tender moments amidst the bustling stadium corridors, sharing secret smiles and knowing glances, reminding each other why they fell in love in the first place.
Lucy's protective instincts ran deep, not just as a mentor but as a lover. She couldn't help but worry about Y/N, especially in the intense world of professional sports. It was her nature to shield and support, and she took her role as Y/N's protector seriously. She would offer encouragement, always ready with a reassuring word, a hug, or a kiss before a big match. Lucy understood that the pressure to perform could be overwhelming, and she was determined to be the pillar of strength that Y/N needed.
But Y/N, too, had a protective streak of their own. They cherished Lucy's well-being as much as Lucy cherished theirs. They recognized the sacrifices Lucy made, both on and off the pitch, to support their love and career. Y/N often found small ways to express their gratitude, from preparing Lucy's favourite post-match meal to being the listening ear Lucy needed after a tough game.
While Lucy and Y/N's love was undoubtedly profound and filled with respect and mutual support, they also shared an intimate, cheeky side to their relationship that added a spark of passion to their lives. Behind closed doors, their playful banter often led to moments of intimate connection that only strengthened the bond they shared.
One evening, after a thrilling victory, they returned home, adrenaline still coursing through their veins. The excitement of the match lingered, and it wasn't long before playful teasing turned into affectionate touches and lingering kisses. The familiarity of their home offered an intimate sanctuary where they could express their love for each other freely.
After a passionate debate about some stupid things that had escalated into a playful argument, Lucy wrapped her arms around Y/N and pulled them close.
"You know, you're infuriating sometimes," she said, her lips curving into a wicked smile.
Y/N chuckled, leaning in closer. "And you're not, Miss Bronze?"
Lucy's eyes sparkled with mischief. "Well, maybe I am," she purred, her fingers gently tracing a path along Y/N's jawline. "But you love that about me, don't you?"
Their playful banter dissolved into an affectionate embrace and make-out, a testament to the warmth and passion that defined their relationship.
However, Lucy's protective instincts never wavered, even in their most intimate moments. She held Y/N close, not only out of love but also out of a deep-seated need to shield and care for her.
"I can't help it," Lucy would say with sincerity when Y/N questioned her about her protective manners. "It is just who I am. You mean the world to me and I can't stand the thought of anything happening to you."
Y/N, in turn, would smile and reassure her, "I love that you're protective, Lucy. It makes me feel cherished and safe."
As Lucy and Y/N continued to build their life together, their love only deepened. The bond that had started as mentorship and evolved into a passionate romance remained as vibrant and strong as ever. Their playful moments and cheeky banter were just one facet of a relationship that was rooted in mutual respect, support, and an unwavering commitment to one another.
In the privacy of their home, they cherished the simple moments – cooking dinner together, cuddling on the couch or watching football matches on lazy afternoons when they had time. Their love was a sanctuary, a place where they could escape the demands and pressures of their high-profile careers and simply be themselves. It was a love filled with tenderness and understanding, a love that made both Lucy and Y/N feel like they had found their true home in each other's arms.
Lucy's protective nature, while sometimes a source of amusement, was a testament to the depth of her feelings for Y/N. She would go to great lengths to ensure Y/N's well-being, from picking out the safest routes to matches to reminding her to rest and recover after a grueling game. It was a love that didn't stifle but rather empowered Y/N, making them feel cherished and valued in a world that often demanded so much.
Their journey was a testament to the idea that true love could weather any storm, no matter how fierce and emerge even stronger on the other side. Lucy and Y/N's love was not just a chapter in their lives - it was their entire story and they were both the authors, writing it with every shared smile, every whispered secret and every protective gesture.
And so, Lucy and Y/N's love story continued to unfold, an extraordinary tale of mentorship, romance, protection and passion. It was a love story that transcended the boundaries of football, reaching into the depths of their souls and weaving a bond that nothing could break. They scored goals on the pitch and in their hearts, becoming a living testament to the power of love in all its forms and they knew that with each other by their side, their journey was bound to be extraordinary and full of beautiful moments that would only strengthen their love for one another.
Lionesses x Reader please, R is the youngest and got often tease by them especially Ella, Millie and Rachel because of her height, she's 5'3 and her parents are like really tall athletes. She didn't got called up for about 2 months she got her late growth spurt (6'2 or something). When she got called up again, the girls thought they have new tall teammate. Just hilarious reactions of the girls please, thank you.
not so short anymore ❦ lionesses
Tumblr media Tumblr media
pairing: lionesses x reader
summary: the youngest on the team isn’t really one of the shortest anymore.
⎯⎯⎯⎯⎯⎯⎯⎯⎯⎯ ⋆✦⋆ ⎯⎯⎯⎯⎯⎯⎯⎯⎯⎯
you were the youngest on the team, you’ve made your debut for the senior lionesses when you had just turned 17.
you’d mostly get teased by the older players, tooney, daly and millie about your height. the older players would just watch fondly as you’d get annoyed but still beat them in training.
you were short yes, but you were extremely fast and you used that to your advantage. you’d never gotten pranked because they’d never be able to reach you.
but what was unbelievable was you had really tall parents, they were well known in their sports. your mother was a tall tennis player, while your father was a really tall basketball player. so your siblings who were taller than you, were eventually shocked that you didn’t get their height.
the last time, you saw the terrible trio as you deemed them was 2 months ago. you had a late growth spurt which made your siblings gap at you with wide eyes. they first thought it was an intruder in the house, but their eyes had widened when they found out it was you
and now here you are, stretching on the pitch in st. george’s park. you were the first one at camp, not wanting to be late.
you had your back against the people who had been watching you, wondering if they had a new teammate. sarina was on the pitch, monitoring your movements and speed but so far it was excellent.
“we have a new teammate?” ella asked loudly catching your attention as you stopped your tracks.
“i haven’t heard of a new teammate.” leah, our skipper said as someone hummed approaching the pitch. it was time to work on the possession control as well.
you turned around, their eyes widening as you snickered at their reactions. leah grinned at your tall height, as ella looked flabbergasted.
“that’s because i’m not a new teammate, lee.” you said, grinning at her.
“i’m not such a short stack anymore, am i.” you teased ella as you were towering her, rachel snickered while millie slapped daly’s back.
your other teammates just had their initial shock at first, but throughout the training they were quick to get over it even though there was still a little bit teasing from the team.
Over My Head - Leah Williamson x Reader
This was requested by anon who wanted a Leah fic. I changed it up a little bit, I hope that's okay. I was inspired by the recent Antonio Rudiger injury in the Real Madrid Champions League game. Hope you enjoy it, I'm not crazy about it, but it's alright.
Tumblr media
You were exhausted from running up and down the field constantly. You hadn’t stopped the whole game. It didn’t stop Real Madrid’s Esther González from scoring in the 46th minute. All Arsenal needed was a point, a single point, to make it through to the last 16 of the Champions League. That was your dream, to win the Champions League with Arsenal, or to at least make it through the quarter-finals. It felt right this year.
You usually played right back, a position you’ve played comfortably since you could kick a ball. The art of defending. You were strong enough to hold up the attackers. The best at 1v1 battles. You were known to be a quick thinker on the pitch, it felt as if you knew what the other player would do, and knowing when to go into a tackle was a strength of yours. You had a good track record with cards received, earning only four yellow cards in your career… so far, of course. You were still young.
Jonas had moved you to play centre-back. You didn’t mind, but you didn’t like the reason why you were moved. Your girlfriend Leah received a knock to her foot during the international break with England. You called her after Ireland’s final in the World Cup Qualifiers against Scotland. That was another game you ran like a mad person up and down the field. You’d won that game 1-0, and remember Katie jumping on your back in celebration. After the game, you saw the headlines, and a short text from Leah to say that she’d hurt her foot but was fine. You were on the phone for the majority of the night, knowing that she wasn’t really fine. She was excited for the season ahead with Arsenal and to captain her country in the upcoming friendly games. To go out with an injury that could last for a few weeks, months at best, was devastating to her. She could hide it well, but not with you.
Leah and you had been dating for a few months. The both of you wanted to keep it quiet for a while, to navigate through the difficulties of Leah’s surging fame after the Euro win. It made sense.
Leah was sat with Rafa, also harbouring a foot injury, above the Arsenal bench. They were watching the game unfold with Leah screaming orders at the players. She was passionate about Arsenal, and it showed on and off the pitch. You could hear her from the other side of the pitch sometimes. Her booming voice reached your ears, a smile appeared on your face when you could hear it.
The ball began moving quickly for Arsenal. Madrid had been playing this fast Spanish game throughout, and now Arsenal were doing it back to them. The 90 minutes were up, with an added 6 minutes on the clock.
You began running up the wing with Lotte sending a through ball your way, skipping past Athenea in the process. The Madrid player was quick, but not a quick thinker like you were. You passed the ball down the middle where Mana had made space. Steph Catley ran up the opposite wing. You had now made it to the box. Time was running out. The last-minute ticking down, the referee holding the whistle in her hand carefully, ready to blow it at any second.
Steph looked up to see if you had reached the box, knowing a defender's head was needed on this ball. Steph pings a pinpoint ball into the box for your waiting head. You were only watching the ball, nothing else. Nothing mattered.
Leah got up from her seat, holding her breath in desperation for a goal. Could this be?
You jumped up into the air for the ball, your head connecting perfectly with the ball. Your head also connected perfectly with Misa’s fists, the Madrid goalkeeper. The ball rolls into the net. While the team held their hands up in celebration, you could only lie on the floor in pain. You could hear the cheering and the referee’s whistle. Viv walked up to check on you, being the closest to you. She placed a hand on your back, not noticing the pain you were so clearly in. She turned you around only to turn around herself to signal that you needed medical attention.
“Shit! That doesn’t look so good. You okay?”
“That went in, right?” You could only open your left eye to look up at Viv. You saw the look of confusion mixed with an impressed look on her face. Impressed with this warrior mentality, but also disgusted at the amount of blood rushing down your face at an alarming speed.
“Yeah, it did. But I think you need to worry more about… that.” She gestured to the cut on your eye. It didn’t bother you too much, it couldn’t bother you. You got up slowly, just in time for the medical team to reach you.
“Do you want to lay back down so we can check that you’re okay?” One of the doctors said calmly, trying not to alarm you.
You could feel the blood dripping down onto your red shirt, you weren’t sure what was blood and what was cotton.
“I’m fine. I want to finish the game.” You brushed them off, wanting to walk off the injury. Viv stepped in front of you, not wanting you to hurt yourself more.
“You are not finishing the game looking like that.” Viv worriedly said.
“I’m fine!” You walked away from Viv, only to feel yourself stumbling. Your head was aching, your eye was stinging, and the cut was profusely bleeding. Nothing was going right for you at that moment. Viv grabbed you and took you over to the benches herself.
In her haste, Leah had climbed down onto the side of the pitch to get a closer look at what was happening. The rest of the team had traveled over to the bench to grab some water, also watching you talking and stumbling around next to Viv with blood splashing everywhere. Some couldn’t take their eyes off of you in shock, and the more squeamish ones looked away as it proved difficult for them to look at a steady stream of blood dripping onto your kit and onto the grass. You were covered.
Leah began to walk onto the pitch. She knew how stubborn you could be, especially after injuring yourself. You’d play with a broken foot if you had to. It’s one of the many things she admired about you. But also thought you were completely stupid. You’d laugh at her as she’d shake her head.
Beth grabbed Leah before she could venture further, dragging her back to the bench.
“Beth, no! I need to see her and get her off to get to the hospital!”
“And she will. Don’t worry. But if you walk on that pitch, you’ll get a card.” Beth tried to reason with Leah. She wasn’t sure if Leah could get a card but needed her off the pitch.
“I get that, but-"
“You’re worried about her. It’s okay. But Viv’s over there with her, and Viv won’t let her stay on the pitch. Not looking like that anyway. She looks like a victim from the Texas Chainsaw Massacre films.” Beth got lost in her thoughts as she continued to stare at Viv holding you up.
“Beth. This isn’t helping.” A year slipped down Leah’s cheek.
“Oh fuck. I’m sorry. I didn’t realise you were that worried. Hey, she’s going to be okay. You know her better than anyone, she’s a proper fighter.” Beth kept her arm around Leah’s shoulder, trying to steady her. “Look, she’s coming over now. She looks… yeah.”
You made it to the sidelines where the medical team stopped you. As long as you were off the pitch, the game could carry on. The last few seconds of the game anyway. Leah stood where Beth had left her in shock at the state you were in. The medical team pressing towels on your face, trying to stop the bleeding. Leah could hear you trying to convince them that you could still play. She didn’t doubt that but needed you in her arms to make sure you were okay.
“Y/N…” Leah croaked out quietly.
You looked up suddenly, still drenched in blood with only one eye open, but you heard her. You were being so stupid. You knew how much she hated seeing you hurt, whether that be mentally or physically. You nodded and walked over to her, the medical staff coming with you holding the towels to your face.
“Hey, I’m okay. Just a bit of blood.”
“A bit? You scared the shit out of me, Y/N.”
“I know. I’m sorry.”
“Just get it checked out, please.”
She was angry at you. You could tell. Leah was just disappointed and cared too much about you. You’d been friends longer than a couple, and she always knew you to be a live-life-on-the-edge sort of person. And it always freaked her out. She followed you into the dressing room with the two medical staff. A massage table had always been in the middle where they told you to lie down on it. You did as you were told, with Leah standing by your feet at the bottom of the table. They began working on the cut above your eye, placing 20 stitches on the cut. Next was your eye which had turned purple, black, and red. It was swollen and all they could do was place multiple tissues on the eye. They bandaged everything up and left the room. You sat up to see the worried look on Leah’s face still there.
“I really am sorry. I should’ve come off straight away. I'm too stubborn for my own good sometimes."
Leah chuckled a little and shook her head, “You really are. I just worry about you, okay? I haven’t liked anyone like this, probably ever. And I know it’s coming out as if I’m angry with you, but I’m not. I just want you to be safe. I want to wrap you in bubble wrap and plasters so you don’t get hurt again.”
You laughed and reached out for Leah’s hand. You pulled her closer to you when she did, sitting down beside your torso. You smiled at her, and she smiled back.
“If it’s any consolation, I feel the same way.” You offered her a dopey smile, suddenly the tiredness of the game catching up to you as you yawned straight after. The adrenaline wearing off.
“Don’t sleep here. Come on, we need to get to the airport soon anyway.” Leah held onto you and you slid your body off the table. Your arm went around Leah’s shoulder as hers circled around your waist. You look over at Leah, with one eye working. Leah looked up towards you, a blush forming on her cheek as she quickly looked back down. You laughed and kissed her cheek, loving the effect you had on her. She turned back and placed a soft kiss on your lips, not wanting to hurt you more.
“Come on, you big idiot.” Leah pulled you with her as the team came rushing in. They all came up to you one at a time to hug you and give kind words.
——
The both of you were sat on the plane on the way back to London. You took your phone out of your pocket and took a selfie of yourself smiling. Leah looked over to you going onto your Instagram page and posting the selfie on your page. She couldn’t believe you sometimes. You had a horrible head injury and you could always see the funny side in anything.
She took her phone out to see the picture with the caption, “We alive” underneath it. She turned to look at you giggling to yourself. She couldn’t help but smile at you, thinking to herself, I absolutely adore this massive idiot.
"Are You Expecting Someone?" (Millie Bright x Reader)
Tumblr media
One thing about me is I love a bit of fluff! I couldn’t leave Millie all heartbroken and sad :(( I hope y'all enjoy and thank you to @wosoobsessed for giving me my first request
Part 1 | Part 2
Request: “If you could do something angsty that would be great maybe they have an argument over something silly where they are shouting at eachother and then Millie says something very hurtful by accident and the reader gets rly upset and storms out to go stay with her parents and then a few days later Millie finds her and apologises” ~ @wosoobsessed
Words: 1.9k
It had been several days since Y/N had walked out on Millie and it was the longest either had gone without speaking to the other in the year since they’d met.
Showing up on your parent's doorstep with a duffle bag over one shoulder and tears running down your cheeks you were immediately embraced. Your mum pulled you into the house, fretting over and caring for you.
Feeling a childlike comfort from being back in your parent's home you had spent the past few days curling up with them on the sofa for movie nights and completing mundane errands.
You were attempting to enjoy your time with them as if nothing had happened; until you were alone in bed, listening to the horrors of English weather beyond your window panes.
At which point all thoughts would turn to Millie. To the hurt she made you feel but also to the desire for her to be with you, warming you in her arms as you listen to the wind and rain outside.
The thought of texting the blonde had crossed your mind more than once as you lay under your mountains of blankets. But the overwhelming guilt you felt before and due to your walkout was almost suffocating. And the hurt you felt when Millie’s words echoed through your mind still burned you every time.
• • •
A week. Millie had spent a week in an empty home, moving through her day-to-day tasks robotically. She’d walk the dogs, she’d go to training, she’d come home, she’d eat dinner, and she’d go to bed.
Most of the Chelsea girls seemed to adapt to avoiding their vice-captain and the attitude she had gained over the days. A number of them continued to make an effort to engage with her though, whether it’s Sam always aiming to gain a giggle or Madga trying to initiate a safe space to talk. Each of them received the cold shoulder. Millie didn’t feel she deserved the empathy her friends were offering.
Unknowingly to either, she found herself in the same place as Y/N each night. Laying in regret, self-loathing and misery. After powering emotionlessly through the day she allows herself to feel, to feel all the guilt which flooded her the moment she heard the door close.
• • •
Day seven, a week apart, also coincided with Chelsea Match Day-1. Walking into Cobham the first thing the defender heard was Emma Hayes’ voice calling out to her.
“Millie! In my office, please.” With an instinctual roll of her eyes, she follows behind her manager, taking a seat opposite her.
Slouching uncomfortably in her seat, Millie feels like a school child awaiting punishment in the headteacher's office. Scanning over one of her most senior players, evidently emotionally drained, Emma lets out a sympathetic sigh before beginning the conversation she’d been hoping she wouldn’t have to have all week.
As Millie listens she fights to upkeep her stoic expression. Emma expresses that her attitude this week had not been appropriate, that her football had been lacking, and eventually informs that she will not be making the starting line-up the following day. The news is surprising but Millie knows it shouldn’t be.
“We’ve allowed you some time to see if things would change but this is now having a knock-on effect on the team and that’s something that can’t continue. Millie, I have known you for many years now, I care for you deeply, and I’ve never seen you this way. I’m concerned and I’d like you to tell me if there’s anything we can do to help. I need you to know while we’re a workplace we are also here to support you. Is there anything you need to or would like to talk about? Would you like me to organise a therapy session for you?”
As she gazes upon the woman who has been such a staple in her life for so many years she can't continue to fight the tears which begin to well in her eyes. Emma meets the younger blonde's eyes as she finishes her speech, and the tears begin to fall; “Emma, I fucked up…”
• • •
Since being home you had tried to distract yourself with as many positive habits as you possibly could in hopes to divert the sympathetic gazes your parents would send your way. They had provided simple comfort the night you arrived, not wanting to pressure you and simply allowing you to cry it out in their arms over mugs of hot chocolate. But since that day had become increasingly more worried as you adamantly refused to address the situation. Especially as they’d noticed your previous two favourite topics, Millie and your business, had been dropped from all conversation.
Wandering into the kitchen, clad in athletic attire, you go about making the smoothie bowl which had become a lunchtime staple of your day throughout the week.
“Good morning darling, how are you today?” Your dad looks up from the newspaper he’d been flipping through as you enter the room, coffee steaming on the table.
“Fine!” You nod, “just been to the gym.” Your casual conversation is interrupted by the shrill of the doorbell ringing. Making confused eye contact with your father you ask, “are you expecting someone?” Receiving a simple shake of the head in return you notice he’s making no effort to move and head to the front of the house yourself. Pulling open the door you're faced with a sight you least expect. Staring face to face with the blonde you’d been missing you can’t help but freeze.
Despite being the one who stood outside your family home Millie seems equally as shocked to see you. The two of you simply stand there. Staring at each other. For several minutes.
“Y/N/N,” Millie is the first to find her voice as she lets out a deep sigh and her face floods with emotion, “I missed you so much.”
She reaches out a hand as if to grab yours when sudden realisation crosses her face and her arm falls limp. “I am so sorry!” She begins insistently, “I was so out of order! With everything! And-” Feeling the howling wind and seeing spits of rain begin to dampen her hair you tug on her arm interrupting the apologies that had begun spewing out of her mouth.
You do your best to sneak Millie past your parents, knowing them seeing her will only spark further integration and you want to be sure of the outcome between you first.
Eventually arriving in your childhood bedroom you push a nerve-filled Millie onto the single bed and begin pacing back and forth trying to find your words.
A groan for the woman on the bed breaks you from your thoughts, head snapping to the blonde instantly with a raise of your eyebrows. Quickly you notice the reason for the complaint. Her eyes are running over your body, eventually settling back on your face as she notices the attention she’s gained.
“You’re killing me Y/N, please!” Looking over your sports bra and legging-clad body one last time she shakes her head free of thoughts and pulls off her hoodie.
You can't help but laugh as she throws the item toward you, despite the upset she had caused you she was still your Millie and the moment of normality settled a level of nerves within you. “Put it on please?” She begs, “and then sit down with me, I’ve been thinking about this moment all week, I just need you to listen. Please?”
Looking down at the sweatshirt you nod reluctantly, tugging the item over your head it falls oversized around you. The scent that engulfs you almost springs tears to your eyes, the comfort it brings is one you had been dreaming of for multiple weeks now.
Creating sweater paws over your hands, you take a seat on your bed, back resting against the wall and knees to your chest. Mille’s eyes follow you as you settle yourself into a comfortable position, eyes meeting hers expectantly as you wait for her to speak.
“Y/N/N I don’t even know how I can make it up to you. I was entirely out of order. I don’t want to make excuses but I want to explain why I said all those awful things. I didn’t mean any of it, I promise. I just got scared. Some of the girls had been teasing me because you weren’t there and usually you are. I guess they got in my head and I convinced myself you wanted to leave me so unconsciously I thought pushing you away would stop me getting hurt,” taking a regretful sigh she lifts your chin gently, your eyes meeting, “I was so, so wrong! It only made it hurt more knowing how much pain I put you in. I promise you, watching you walk out that door will always be my biggest regret. I know you might not be ready now but I will be right here when you decide to forgive me. No matter how long it takes.”
Just allowing yourself to sit in Millie’s presence and process her words you stay silent. However, this evidently concerns her as she pulls her hand hesitantly from its place on your face and begins anxiously fidgeting her hands before making a move to stand. At the sight, your eyes grow wide and a hand instinctively reaches out to latch with hers. The thought of her leaving you again is the last thing you want. Looking back towards you Millie’s eyes soften as you gaze at her with an innocent vulnerability, “can- can I ask you something?”
Gripping your hand tighter as you stumble over your words the blonde nods, “anything baby.”
Inhaling deeply you manage to blurt the question which had been swirling in your mind the most all week, “why didn’t you follow me out?” The mere thought of why Millie hadn’t followed behind you that day was enough to bring you to tears. Had she wanted you to leave? Had you become an inconvenience? Had she found someone better?
In stunned silence Millie sits stoic, opening and closing her mouth like a fish, she can’t quite believe the words she’d heard.  After several moments of your nerves increasing by the second, your girlfriend finally rediscovers her voice, “is- is that what you wanted?” She seems genuinely confused as she says, “I wanted to give you space. I thought you wanted space!”
Snapping your eyes from your tangled fingers to Millie’s face you watch as her lip begins to tremble and her eyes begin to water. Clutching tight with one hand you lift the other to settle carefully on her cheek, ”please don't give me space,” you whisper, “that’s the last thing I want with you.”
Millie still appears unsure despite your reassurance, “I promise,” you insist gently. You link your pinkie fingers together and bring hers to your lips, creating the most intimate contact since you reunited.
“I can’t promise to forget everything immediately, this is something we will need to discuss. But I know you were hurt and tired so I forgive you.” You speak softly but seriously, Millie listens intently and nods in understanding. Looking at her, really being with her for the first time in several weeks you can’t help but request the one thing that’s been on your mind. “But please,” Millie is serious, ready to do anything you want, “can you just hold me for a while?” A smile breaks out on your girlfriend's face immediately, unbridled joy emitting from her at your words. She can’t help but chuckle at the innocent puppy eyes you send her as she opens her arms wide and encourages you into them.
 Your head lays on Millie’s chest and her chin rests atop it, fingers smoothing through your hair and with a single kiss to your hairline she whispers, “I love you Y/N L/N.”
mascot
Tumblr media
transferred/modified from my wattpad
prompt: your daughter eloise is a player mascot for lucy bronze
word count: 4.6k
-
"Mum i'm nervous, what if I mess up or if I don't like the player I'm given or if it goes so horribly I have to quit playing football" your daughter Eloise rambles as the two of you prepare to head off for the England versus Austria game.
"Eloise" you sigh, knowing your daughter has way too much anxiety for such a young kid and on top of that she is a little bit dramatic.
"Yes mum?" Eloise asks innocently.
"Do you know how to hold someone's hand, walk across a football pitch and stand still?" you ask sincerely.
"Of course I do that stuff is easy" Eloise replies in a 'duh' tone.
"Perfect so you will not mess up. Next thing, who in the England squad do you not like?"
"No one! I love them all so much" Eloise smiles brightly.
"Okay there we go so there is no way you won't like the player you are given" you inform your child, Eloise looks deep in thought for a moment before smiling again.
"Oh okay you are right mum, I'd be happy to walk on with anyone"
"See, now last thing, even if you completely mess up, which you won't… And then for some very weird reason it means you have to quit playing football here in England... You and I will come home tonight, pack up all our belongings, move to a country where no one knows us, change our names to Bob and Steve and you can start playing again in the new country, sound good?" you ask in a completely serious tone.
Eloise just laughs at you, "that is so ridiculous mum"
"Oh i'm the one being ridiculous am i?" you ask as you tickle Eloise, picking her up and walking towards the door so you can leave.
"Mum, you don't have to carry me, I'm six, I’m a big girl, and I should be practising my walking" Eloise whines.
"Nope, wouldn't want your little legs getting tired, you might go to walk on the pitch and they'll fall off, leaving your body cut in half in the middle of the field and then everyone will get mad at you because they have to delay kick off" you joke.
"Yeah okay you can carry me forever, that's a new fear unlocked" Eloise informs you sincerely, having taken the time to consider it as a real possibility.
"I promise you that will not happen" you kiss the top of Eloise's head placing her in the back of the car.
"If it does you are taking the blame"
"Fine if that happens I will definitely take blame for it" you laugh lightly knowing that rather than anything bad happening, your daughter is going to have the time of her life being a player mascot.
-
Eloise waits nervously for the players to line up, she knows she shouldn't be nervous but she really is.
"Looks like you're stuck with me" Lucy smiles at the cute little girl waiting.
"Oh my god, my mum was right" Eloise remarks, amazed that her day has not yet fallen to pieces.
"What was your mum right about sweetie?" Lucy asks, leaning down to be the same height as the small girl.
"Well she said I'd like whatever player I got paired with and she was right because you are my favourite player, and my mum’s too actually, she says your ‘attractivate’, but she also said that my legs will fall off and that her and I will move countries and be named Bob and Steve so i'm not sure she's right about everything you know?" Eloise rambles to Lucy.
"Your mum says I'm ‘attractivate’? do you mean attractive?" Lucy chuckles slightly, amused at the cute little girl in front of her.
"Ohhh yeah that one for sure, she says it all the time, like you aren't even attractive you are a defender, I’m not even sure what position attractive is but it's sure not the one you play" Eloise informs Lucy.
"Yeah you are right, what's your name sweetie?" Lucy asks the girl.
"My name is Eloise and my mum's name is (Y/N), I know you didn't ask but it's only polite since we have been talking about her this entire time. We shouldn't have been, I could have been spending this time telling you that I'm going to be a defender just like you one day"
"Well Eloise how about you tell your mum, that after the game I will come and talk to you two and then you can tell me all about how you are going to be a defender, sound good?" Lucy asks, standing up straight and grabbing onto the girls hand getting ready to walk onto the pitch.
"Okay I can do that, but we better talk about me because I think you already know too much about my mum and not enough about me" Eloise informs Lucy seriously.
"I think I can work with that, now let's do this" Lucy smiles at the young girl before the team makes their way onto the pitch.
-
"Aww look at my precious baby" you smile as Eloise and the rest of the mascots make their way back to the section where their parents are all sitting.
"Mum stop you are embarrassing me" Eloise groans.
"No can do Ellie! I'm so proud of you for not having your limbs fall off, seriously I'm very impressed" you remark.
"Well thank you! Also Lucy said she's going to talk to us after the game" Eloise smiles at you.
"How did you get her to agree to that?" you ask your daughter, confused.
"Well you see, I was talking to her and then I told her that you said she is ‘attractivate’ and I told her that you are obviously wrong because she's a defender and then we had to go out so I said we shouldn't have been talking about you the entire time because I am the mascot and not you and then she told me to tell you that she will come over to us after the game so that she can actually talk to me about me" Eloise explains in one breath, almost passing out at the end due to how much she is rambling.
"Okay we need you to stop rambling and Eloise I thought it went without saying that you don't tell football players that I have crushes on them" you sigh.
"But mum! I didn't tell her you have a crush, I said that you said she is ‘attractivate’, that's different" Eloise whines, not understanding your issue with what was said.
"Ellie baby, you meant to say that I think she is attractive and that-"
"Oh yeah Lucy said it was that one instead" Eloise cuts you off.
"Okay so attractive basically means beautiful and you telling Lucy I think she is beautiful is basically you telling her that I have a crush on her" you explain to your daughter.
"Ohhhh okay so I also can't tell football players that you think they are ‘attractivate’?" Eloise asks curiously.
"I'd very much prefer it if you didn't"
"Okay got it, I won't do it again I promise" Eloise says, giving you her best puppy eyes as a way of apologising.
"Thank you baby, now let's watch the game"
-
"Ooo Lucy is coming over, do I look pretty?" Eloise asks while playing with her hair.
"You are six years old Ellie, why would you have to look pretty for Lucy Bronze?" you ask, wondering what the hell has gotten into your daughter.
"What's this I hear about needing to look pretty for Lucy Bronze?" Lucy asks, having made a beeline for the mother and daughter duo.
"My mum said she wanted to look pretty for you" Eloise smiles cheekily.
"Eloise!"
"Okay she didn't say that I'm sorry, she's already pretty so if you don't like her that's your bad" Eloise continues.
"That's enough of you" you cover Eloise's mouth, "sorry about her, she's a bit of an eccentric kid" you explain to Lucy.
"Yeah I worked that out already" Lucy chuckles, taking a moment to look at you properly for the first time, realising how gorgeous you are.
"Mmmm" Eloise mumbles her mouth still covered by your hand, you uncover her mouth allowing her to speak again, "mum no disrespect but Lucy said she was going to talk to me about being a defender so you need to shhh please"
You laugh at your daughter, "yes ma'am I'll be over here in the corner" you state, taking a seat and allowing Eloise and Lucy to talk football.
"Can we mum?" you hear your daughter call for you and snap out of the daze you were in.
"Can we what?"
"You never listen to me" Eloise whines, "Lucy said she wants to invite us to the Lionesses training that's happening in a few days" Eloise explains to you.
"I don't know Ellie, the Euros are still happening so I'm sure the Lionesses training is really important, we shouldn't interrupt them" you explain to Eloise.
"No it would really be fine, it’s an open training, anyone is welcome and I’d be happy to see you both again" Lucy informs you, trying to convince you to allow Eloise to attend the training session so she can have the opportunity to see you again.
"Okay well when you say it like that I'd be a horrible mum if I said no, sure Ellie we can go" you smile at the two excited footballers.
"It'll be nice to see you again, maybe I'll actually be able to talk to you next time, what's your number so I can send you the details?" Lucy asks you, making a clear effort to flirt with you.
You and Lucy exchange details and bid each other farewell, all while Eloise continually attempts to interrupt, not wanting to be left out of the conversation.
"Alright, bye Ellie, bye (Y/N/N), see you on Monday" Lucy smiles waving to the two od you.
"Mum, she called you (Y/N/N) and you didn't yell at her" Eloise informs you in a confused tone .
"It would be rude to yell at a professional footballer, Ellie, I was just being polite" you tell your daughter.
"I don't believe you, you let her do it because you like her" Eloise giggles, skipping out of the stadium.
"Whatever you say Ellie" you roll her eyes, following closely behind your daughter, not wanting the small girl to get lost.
-
"Mum I'm nervous again" Eloise informs you as you are driving to St George Park, the training ground of the Lionesses.
"You are always nervous Eloise, but don't be because we are here now so we don't have time to indulge in your ideas about how you are going to accidentally trip and bite someone" you laugh a little, knowing it is not out of the realm of possibility for your daughter to create a scenario like that in her head.
"Well I wasn't imagining that but now I am so thanks" Eloise sighs dramatically.
"Come on you, wouldn't want to be late" you state as you open the car door for Eloise, leading the way to the entrance of the training facility.
"Are you sure we are going the right way? what if we get lost" Eloise asks.
"Well if we are going the wrong way then so is Lucy" you point out Lucy who is a it the front of the entrance greeting the young footballers as they walk in.
Eloise looks up, spotting Lucy, she immediately drops your hand and sprints towards Lucy, excited to see the defender again.
"Lucy!" Eloise yells excitedly, hugging Lucy tightly before you are able to catch up and inform her that she shouldn't initiate physical contact without asking first.
"Ellie, hey!" Lucy replies to the small child in the same tone, "and hey (Y/N), it's great that you could make it" Lucy smiles at you.
"Hey Lucy, thank you again for inviting us, we'll just head in and see you in there?" you ask Lucy.
"Ahh actually I was waiting out here for you guys, I wanted to make a good impression" Lucy informs you, a nervous laugh escaping her lips.
"Aww that's very sweet and extremely helpful since Ellie didn't trust me with the directions even though I promised her that you told me where to go" Lucy laughs and Eloise whines slightly, embarrassed that you called her out infront of her idol.
"Well let's head in, I'm sure this training will be super exciting" Lucy smiles at Eloise, taking her hand and leading her into the training centre.
-
"Wasn’t it so cool to watch the girls train?" you ask your daughter, ruffling her hair as the training session has just ended.
"Mum stop you are embarrassing me" Eloise whines.
"I'm too cool to be embarrassing"
"Yeah Ellie your mum is too cool to be embarrassing" Lucy chuckles, having made her way over to the mother-daughter duo.
"Lucy you are supposed to be on my side, we have worked together and now you are taking my mum’s side, not cool" Eloise informs the defender dramatically before walking off to talk to some of the friends she made.
"Sorry about her" you apologise for your daughters sassy behaviour.
"No don't apologise, she's a great kid, definitely a lot of personality"
"Yeah personality" you roll your eyes.
"So I actually wanted to ask you something" Lucy states, suddenly fidgeting.
"Yeah of course, ask away" you smile sweetly.
"I was wondering if you wanted to go get coffee with me? Like ahh as a date" Lucy asks.
"Yeah I'd love to, although I have to inform you that I'll probably be required to bring the demon child along. It's just her and I so unless we tie her up outside like a dog she'll have to sit with us" you joke, your sarcasm making lucy smile.
"Well I could bring along my dog Narla's leash but I'd be more than happy for her to sit with us, she's a cool kid" Lucy jokes back.
"Sounds good, text me Bronze, we'll work something out" you state while walking away to find where Eloise had gotten to, leaving Lucy standing alone smiling.
"What's got you standing here smiling like a creep?" Jordan comes up behind Lucy.
"You see the woman over there with the little girl?" Lucy asks her best friend.
"Yeah I've got eyes" Jordan informs Lucy.
"Well I asked her on a date and she agreed" the smile makes its way back onto Lucy's face.
"Oooo you're gonna be a stepmum" Jordan states loudly, making a few heads turn, luckily not yours as you are out of earshot already.
"God could that mouth be any bigger?" Lucy covers Jordan's mouth, walking with her back towards the rest of the Lionesses, "also I don't know about becoming a stepmum I only asked her on a date, not for her hand in marriage, so let's slow down"
"But you do know that if things become serious then you will have to become some sort of parent right?" Jordan asks seriously.
"Yeah I know, I mean I think I'd be happy to, I met her daughter before I met her and she seems like a super great kid" Lucy ponders becoming a parental figure in Eloise's life, it's definitely something she'd be happy to do if it comes to it.
"Awww that's so cute mummy Lucy" Jordan laughs.
-
"Hey you" you smile taking a seat across from Lucy.
"Hey yourself, where's your mini-me?" Lucy asks immediately, noticing that Eloise isn't with you.
"Oh I actually left her with a friend, I know I said I'd probably have to bring her but if this is a real date, which I hope it is, then I wanted to be able to get to know you properly" this makes Lucy blush slightly, knowing that you genuinely want to get to know her and that you are on a real date.
"That makes sense, although I feel like I now owe her a cafe date otherwise it's a bit unfair" Lucy flashes a smile, indicating to you that she is interested in becoming involved in both yours and your daughter's life.
"Oh absolutely, I had to lie to her about where I was going so she didn't get jealous" you laughs slightly, a confused look crosses Lucy's face, this causes you to backtrack, "that sounds bad, I only lied to her because she is really fond of you and would probably throw a fit if she knew I was meeting up with you and she couldn't come" you explain.
"No you're all good, I understand what you mean. I just wasn't sure if you meant you were lying about seeing me or lying about dating but your explanation makes sense" Lucy smiles, grabbing your hands from across the table rubbing her thumb on your hand to calm you down.
"Well if I'm being honest I also did not inform her that it was a date, only because I've never really dated anyone while I’ve had her in my life and I want to see where this will go before I actually tell her" you explain, slightly digging a hole for yourself with all your over-explanations.
"You're fine love, it's fine, there's no need for nervousness or over-explanations" Lucy informs you, attempting to assure you that everything is okay.
"Not to change the topic or anything but I think we should order because the owner is glaring at us and I can only assume it's because we are taking up a table and haven't ordered" you state, almost jumping out of your seat with how ready you are to change the subject.
"Maybe he's just homophobic" Lucy whispers to you as she catches up to you, both of you making your way towards to counter.
"Should we make out in-front of him to see?" you joke, this makes Lucy laugh wildly.
"Maybe next time"
-
"Are you sure you have time for all these dates?" you ask as you cuddle up to Lucy on your couch.
You have again shipped Eloise off to a friend's house and invited Lucy to stay the night, an invitation the brunette could not pass up.
"I wouldn't be here if I couldn't be, I just have to sneak out really early like a booty call would" Lucy chuckles.
"I can get up in the morning and drive you if you'd like?" you ask happily, wanting to be able to spend as much time with Lucy as possible.
"If you can it would be nice but I don't want to put you out" Lucy wraps her arms around you, moving you so that you are straddling her waist.
"It would be my pleasure" you whisper, leaning down to give Lucy a quick peak.
Lucy takes it further grabbing the bottom of your shirt an indication that she wants to take it off you. She swiftly pulls your shirt over your head, leaving you in a bralette. The two of you don't do anything further than making out and feeling each other's bodies, but it's enough for each of you to feel extremely happy with the way your relationship is progressing.
The two of you end up falling asleep on the couch together, neither of you having the energy to move to your bedroom for the night.
"Hmm" you mumble as you are awoken by movement from under you.
"Sorry love, you can go back to sleep, I'm just getting up to get ready to go" Lucy informs you but you only half take it in as you are extremely tired.
"Nooo I said I was going to take you" you barely manage to finish your sentence as you almost fall asleep again.
"I know, I'll wake you when I’m ready to leave but I need to shower and get dressed okay?" Lucy asks the basically sleeping figure.
"So I have to drive you around looking like a sleepy mess?" you try to ask pointedly while still not even having her eyes open.
"You look beautiful always and anyway no one will see you" Lucy reassures you, quickly kissing your forehead and making her way to the bathroom.
-
"Mum" Eloise speaks carefully, you two had been sitting on the couch with a football match playing in the background.
"Yeah what's up?" you ask, not looking up from your phone as you are busy texting a certain brunette.
"Why are things changing?" Eloise asks anxiously, this causes your head to snap in her direction, not expecting such a loaded question from the six year old.
"What is changing Ellie?" you put your phone down, giving your full attention to your daughter.
"Us" Eloise speaks sadly, "it used to be just me and you always but now you are on your phone a lot laughing and instead of us hanging out I always have to stay with other people when you go out" Eloise explains, quite eloquently for a six year old.
"Yeah I know what you mean Ellie and I'm sorry, I’m going to be honest with you because I know you are such a smart young girl" you inform Eloise which makes her smile due to the praise. "I've been dating someone, it's very new and obviously I've never done it before so I just don't want to introduce you to her just for her to not stick around. So instead I've been keeping it very private but I can see that it is changing the way we are as a family so how about I introduce you to her? Do you think that sounds good?" you ask, hoping that you are doing the right thing for you, your daughter and for your potential relationship.
"Okay, I have a question though'' Eloise speaks confidently, no longer upset or worried about your recent odd behaviour.
"Ask away kiddo"
"Does she like football?" Eloise asks sincerely, you know it's a sincere question as well, Eloise would likely not approve of any woman you were dating if she didn't like football.
"She definitely does" you smirk slightly.
"Good, I will meet her then'' Eloise informs you, suddenly moving where she is sitting on the couch and jumping into your arms.
"I'm really excited for you to meet her Ellie" you cuddle your daughter tightly.
-
"Mum I thought we were meeting your girlfriend, why are we at Wembley?" Eloise asks you.
"Firstly she isn't my girlfriend so don't go around saying that, we are just dating for now nothing official and we are going to see her here"
"Ooo is she going to sit with us and watch the game?" Eloise's inquisitive nature takes over.
"Not quite, we are going to see her after the game" you inform your daughter, attempting to not give away who you are actually dating.
"Ohhh does she work here?"
"Yeah something like that" you smile, while the two of you make your way to the family and friends section of the stadium.
"Hi, you must be (Y/N)'' Diane, Lucy's mother smiles kindly as you take your seat next to her.
"Yeah I am, and you must be Diane, I’ve heard a lot of great things about you" you politely respond.
"Mum, who's that?" Eloise whispers to you, although she hasn't exactly caught on to how whispering works so instead of only you hearing the entire Bronze family does as well.
"She's a friend of mine" you reply, giving Diane a look that suggests that the young child does not yet know about the relationships between herself and Diane's daughter.
"Mum you don't have any friends" Eloise replies seriously.
"Well Diane is sitting right next to me and she said hi to me so I think she is my friend" you reason with your daughter.
"You told me that if people I don't know say hi to me that I shouldn't reply" this causes Diane and the rest of the Bronze family to laugh at the small girl.
"Listen I know Diane and she is my friend so you can talk to her okay" you reassure Eloise.
"Okay" Eloise replies seriously, she climbs onto your lap and starts a conversation with Diane, "do you like football?"
"I definitely do" Diane smiles at the cute child.
"That's good, okay who are you supporting today? The Lionesses or the Netherlands?" she asks seriously, you giggle slightly, knowing the answer will determine how your daughter feels about the older woman.
"It would probably upset a few people if I didn't go for the Lionesses, especially my daughter who is playing for them" Diane informs the child.
"Your daughter plays for the Lionesses? That's so cool, who is she? Can I meet her? You know I want to play for the Lionesses in the future" Eloise rambles quickly.
"Calm down Ellie you might explode" you cover your daughters mouth gently to stop her from talking so much. “We still have to work on that rambling”
"My daughter is Lucy Bronze and I'm sure she'd be happy to meet you after the game, although she might not be very happy if they don't win" Diane informs the small child.
"Oh I've already met Lucy'' Eloise states defeatedly, wanting to meet a different member of the Lionesses.
"Eloise!" you speak harshly, surprised at the way your daughter reacted.
"Sorry" Eloise whines, "I'd love to meet Lucy again, I just thought I’d get to meet someone else"
"You're fine darling" Diane responds, already taking on a grandmotherly role with the young child.
"Can I sit with you to watch?" Eloise asks Diane.
Diane smiles excitedly, "of course you can". the two end up watching the game together, Eloise in Diane's arms, the two talking and bonding the entire time.
-
"And your winners of the 2022 Euros, the England Lionesses" an announcer is heard throughout the stadium as cheers follow, the team lifts the trophy and Eloise excitedly cheers with Diane.
"Mum, are we going to meet your girlfriend soon?" Eloise asks after the excitement wears off.
"Ellie I already said she isn't my girlfriend yet but yes you will meet her soon, just be patient okay?"
"Here she is!" Diane yells excitedly as her daughter makes her way over to the family and friends section.
"Hey everyone" Lucy smiles happily, she greets her family thanking them all for coming, when she gets to you she quickly kisses you on the cheek, hoping to avoid anyone catching the interaction, "and hey you, thank you so much for coming, it means the world" Lucy cuddles into you, the interaction easily being able to be disguised as a friendly one.
"Oh my god, mum, is Lucy your girlfriend?" Eloise asks loudly.
Before you are able to inform Eloise for the umpteenth time that you are not girlfriends, Lucy says, "I'd love it if I was" you stand in shock at Lucy's comment. "So would you like to be my girlfriend (Y/N)?" Lucy asks properly this time.
"I'd love to" you smile widely, hugging Lucy again.
"So cool, Lucy Bronze is my mum's girlfriend" eloise interrupts the moment making all the adults laugh.
"Hey Ellie, how would you like to walk on the pitch with me? You can even wear my medal” Lucy offers the child to which the young girl agrees almost instantaneously.
"You two will make a great couple" Diane informs you.
"I hope so" you reply, watching Lucy carry Eloise on her shoulders, the two laughing as they make their way over to the group of Lionesses who are on the pitch celebrating.
Birthday - Lionesses (ENGWNT) x Reader
A/n: wrote this months ago but it's my birthday (in my timezone anyway) so... you can have it now, from the Rook WOSO series, reader is nicknamed Rook. Atlas is an OC.
Rook WOSO series masterlist
///
Your birthday during your loan at Arsenal was a small occasion. Atlas made a cake and the two of you sat on the couch, watching Jurassic World Fallen Kingdom in comfy clothing.
Your next birthday, Atlas was in Barcelona, and you were in Manchester.  There would be no homemade cake or movie to watch, but things were different at United compared to how things felt at Arsenal. Atlas had been sweet enough to call Jackie, since the two were on the Netherlands national team together, so she helped to make your birthday special, even if Atlas couldn’t be there.
You still weren’t sure, even a year later, who had found out your birthday or arranged the chaos that you had walked into in the locker room on your birthday.
But this time, your birthday was during a national camp, meaning once again, no Atlas, as Atlas was now happily living in LA playing for Angel City, but you had a few of your United teammates at the camp, so maybe something would happen this year.
Or maybe not.
Maybe none of them knew it was your birthday coming up.
It felt like a normal day at camp, breakfast went how it usually went, sitting with Tooney, Russo and Roebuck, attending training and running drills. The others were whispering between each other as Tooney chased you around, trying to nutmeg you as revenge for your first day at United. A revenge that was attempted a lot unless the two of you joined forces and tried to nutmeg anyone else.
“Do those two do that every time there’s training?” Lucy enquired, stopping to watch you and Ella running around each other, kicking a ball in attempts to nutmeg the other.
“Sometimes they team up to try to nutmeg me.” Alessia added, looking up as a ball arrived at her feet, spotting you and Ella waiting for her to join in in the game the two of you were playing.
“Rook doesn’t know what we’ve got planned, right?” Lucy added, gesturing to where you were now running around with Ella and Alessia, the three of you trying to nutmeg each other and not fall over in the process.
“No, they don’t. We’ve got Tooney and Russo tasked with bringing them to the surprise later.” Leah explained as another drill began.
“I’m surprised you don’t want to bring Rook yourself, Leah, it was your idea after all.” Jill admitted, but Leah shook her head, jogging off to get involved in the training drill.
“Are you sure those two won’t spill the beans though?” Lucy pointed out, raising an eyebrow as Jill shrugged, admitting she wasn’t that sure.
///
“Hey, wait, where are you going?” Ella began to panic, spotting you heading back to your room instead of where she and Alessia needed you to go.
“My room, going to charge my phone and call Atlas before dinner.” You raised an eyebrow, gesturing to your phone in your hand.
“Isn’t she still asleep, you know, time zones and all that?” Ella asked, but you shook your head, knowing the time zone that Atlas was in and the time difference.
“Atlas has training at Angel City in an hour.” You shrugged, about to open the door to your room when Ella let it slip.
“We need you downstairs, there’s a surprise party for your birthday… although I’ve just ruined the surprise, try to act surprised… we’re going to blame Alessia for leaving to go grab her water because now I’ve just ruined it.” Ella rambled, her eyes widening when she realised what she had said.
“Wait, you didn’t forget? People know it’s my birthday today?” Your eyes glassy as Ella frowned, why were you about to cry?
“Of course we do, Leah’s been organising this with us for weeks now-” she was cut off as you pulled her into a hug.
“What’s going on?” Alessia enquired as she walked over, having now retrieved her water bottle.
“I may have split the beans, and we have to go… Rook, you’re going the wrong way!” Ella exclaimed, hurrying after you as you went into your room.
“I’m trying to change my clothes, I’m not turning up looking like this!”
///
“You’re wearing the same clothes, did you even change?” Alessia laughed as Ella stopped pacing outside of your room to look at your clothes.
“This is a different shirt, and I put on more deodorant.” You argued as Ella gestured at the shirt.
“The shirt is the same colour as before!”
“Where are we going anyway?” You asked, gesturing to the corridor as you realised you were leading your two United teammates to your own surprise party, location unknown.
“Um, well Roebuck was supposed to text what room it was in, but let’s just go and find them all!” Alessia explained, checking her phone as you shrugged, having grabbed your portable charger whilst in your room.
“Why can’t we hear them? You’d think you’d hear a party going on?” Ella asked before realising what she’d said, “surprise party, they’ll all be quiet and hiding, damn! Maybe in here- oh god, sorry!”
“Go, go, go, Sarina’s having a meeting in there!” Tooney exclaimed, the three of you running down the corridor, away from the meeting room.
///
“Can somebody message one of them and see what’s taking them so long? Roebuck, did you text them the room?” Stanway asked, getting bored of waiting along with everyone else.
“I texted them, but neither Russo or Tooney have seen the message, at this rate we’ll have to text Rook- does anyone else hear that?” Roebuck asked, looking up from her phone at the thumping of footsteps outside the room.
“Why are they running?”
“Places everyone!” Leah interrupted, about to hit the lights off when the laughter outside grew louder.
“Don’t shove me, it’s not my fault you walked in on that meeting!” You laughed, the three of you growing closer to a door that Alessia was guiding you all towards.
“Hey, try to-” Ella began, reminding you to try and act surprised as you shrugged, opening the door.
“Less, are you sure this is the right-”
“Damn I dropped my charger, can you two see it?” You asked, the three of you crouching in the doorway in the dark, trying to find your charger.
“SURPRISE! HAPPY BIRTHDAY!”
The lights turned on, revealing your charger on the ground, the rest of the Lionesses and a load of balloons.
“What are all three of you doing on the floor?” Lucy raised an eyebrow, watching as you sat on the floor, plugging your charger into your phone, dropping it in your lap and glancing around at everyone.
“Rook dropped their charger and we were running because we walked into Sarina trying to have a meeting, and we were already late because Rook wanted to change clothes, but changed into the same shirt and everything, and we, well…” Ella let out a sigh, rambling slightly as Alessia cut in.
“We got lost.”
“I texted the room!” Roebuck pointed out, but Ella let out another sigh.
“We were busy trying to persuade Rook to not go to their room and call Atlas, because they two would have been on the phone for hours!”
“I told you Atlas had training for Angel City in an hour- we wouldn’t have been on the phone that long! Although you probably forgot because you were panicking about us being late, so…”
“Wait, you knew?” Leah’s face fell slightly as she listened to you, Tooney and Russo bantering with each other.
“I may have spilled the beans, but only because Less left to go get her water bottle, and I panicked, and Rook started crying, oh god, they’re crying again, please don’t cry!” Tooney began to panic, watching as you launched yourself up from the floor into Leah, your phone and portable charger falling onto the floor with a clunk.
“I didn’t think anyone cared.” Your voice was muffled into Leah’s shoulder, but loud enough that Leah had heard, with her arms wrapping around your middle and holding you as you sobbed.
A little while later, you were calm and smiling, trying to persuade Leah to play one of your playlists, although her argument that your songs might not be appropriate was valid, your pout persuaded her, as What I Want by MUNA began to play through the bluetooth speaker.
“Rook, you know I can’t dance!”
“I can’t either! Please, Sunny, it’s my birthday, and you stole my sunglasses!” You replied, offering Roebuck your hand to dance with a pout.
“You’re never gonna to let that go, are you?” Ellie sighed, getting up to dance as you grinned at her.
Leah smiled as she watched you, Tooney, Roebuck, and Russo dancing and jumping around to Lady Gaga’s Poker Face, her eyes widening as you caught her gaze, mouthing the lyrics to Poker Face as you dance-walked your way over to her, offering her your hand. Leah shook her head playfully as you sighed, stepping closer to talk over the noise of the speaker.
“It’s my birthday, captain.”
Leah rolled her eyes, nudging you in the shoulder at the ‘captain’ before you took her hand, pulling her onto the makeshift dance floor, Her Body Is Bible by Fletcher blasting as you got your captain to dance. Mouthing along to the lyrics, you grinned as Leah began to dance with you.
“Amen, oh, her body is Bible, the only heaven that I know, amen, oh, her body is Bible, the only heaven that I’ll go, it’s just a feelin’, feelin’, it’s like an ocean wave, and she’s the freedom, freedom I need to taste…”
The mood shifted as Potential Breakup Song by Aly and AJ began to play, mouthing lyrics turned into singing them loudly, throwing off some other players as the version of the song was revealed to be the explicit version released in 2020, after you shouted, “except for the fact it was my birthday, my fucking birthday!” whilst jumping around with Tooney and Russo. You didn’t miss the look on Leah’s face, or Jill’s as you kept shouting the explicit lyrics “let me repeat that, I want my shit back!” and “so, you better think clearly, clearly, before you nearly, nearly, fuck up the situation that you’re gonna miss really dearly, come on!”
An arm hooked around your middle as the music quietened down, your head leaning on the person’s shoulder as everyone was called to dinner. Jill smiled as she beelined you towards dinner, but also ready to tell you off about your swearing earlier.
Having finally found your phone during dinner, you slipped onto instagram, hiding your phone under the table as you began to go through your notifications first, spotting several birthday posts from teammates, past and present. You were smiling at the messages from Ona and Jackie before rolling your eyes at the ‘masterpiece’ that was the photos Atlas had picked out. An elbow in the ribs had you glancing up from the video of you dancing with Tooney and Russo, meeting Jill’s eyes as she gestured to where Leah had stood up to speak.
“So, baby Rook, it feels like we’ve learned a lot from you today, and you can’t use the ‘it’s my birthday’ excuse to stop me from giving this speech-” you closed your mouth at that, sliding down in your chair as Leah began her speech.
“I object to being called a baby.” You sassed, gaining chuckles as Leah quirked an eyebrow, waiting to continue as you rolled your eyes at her.
Sipping your drink, you tried to ignore how warm your cheeks were as Leah continued her speech, feeling her eyes on you before you glanced up, ears burning as your gaze fell back to your empty plate. Footsteps caught your attention as Leah walked over with something in her hands. Your eyes widened as Leah walked over with a cake on a tray, one single candle flickering in the middle as the others around your table shuffled to get better shots on their phones of what was happening.
Laughter escaped your mouth as you spotted the one candle on the cake Leah was holding, before you spotted Roebuck walking behind Leah, holding a scented candle and a pair of sunglasses. A pair of birthday cake themed sunglasses.
“Is this your apology for stealing my original pair? You know I’m going to wear these all the time now, right?” You joked, taking the sunglasses and slipping them on, giving others the cue to start singing happy birthday as you blew out the candle.
“Right, shall we have some more music? Rook, spotify please!” Tooney requested, taking your phone to connect your spotify to the speaker.
Breaking Free from High School Musical began to play, your eyes widening as you scrambled for your phone, switching the playlist but it was already too late.
“High School Musical?”
“Classics.” You shrugged, looking through your playlist for a song, Telephone by Lady Gaga playing quickly as you got up, gently taking Roebuck’s hand and tugging her to the dance floor.
“You forgot to explain the scented candle.” Jill pointed out, sniffing the candle in thought as Leah bit her lip, wondering whether you needed to know that particular disaster as she watched you dancing with Roebuck, who danced awkwardly but had a smile on her face the whole time.
///
(The disaster being that the girls forgot birthday candles and only found one lonely birthday candle in the kitchen, so they ended up panicking and buying a votive candle that smelt like birthday cake, as it was the only thing they found locally).
///
Laying in bed that night, your phone began to buzz, reminding you of the 8 hour time difference between you and Atlas as you hit the green answer button.
“Are you awake?”
“I answered, but if I fall asleep on the call, it’s your fault.” You sassed, rolling over so your voice wasn’t muffled by the pillow.
“Happy birthday! How was your day?”
“It was great, it was fun, there was laughter and some tears, I’ll tell you more details when I can keep my eyes open, but Leah even brought out a cake, and I bet you wish you could have a slice, since it was your favourite.” You teased, hearing Atlas gasp in betrayal down the phone line.
A giggle left your lips, not realising as the phone call went on, how loud you were being until a thump hit the other side of the  wall near your head, followed by a ‘shut up!’, leaving Atlas to laugh as you muffled yourself with your pillow.
You’d loved each birthday you’d had since going on loan to Arsenal and your football journey was truly beginning since that moment...
Injuries and Whatnot
Leah Williamson x Reader
Prompt: Reader gets hurt during a game and Leah panics.
Y/n was a rising star in the world of soccer, known for her incredible speed and agility on the field. Her girlfriend, Leah Williamson, was also a talented player, known for her defensive skills and her unwavering determination as a leader.
One day, Y/n's team, Arsenal, was playing in a high-stakes match against their biggest rivals. It was a tough game, with both teams playing their hearts out. Y/n was in top form, weaving through defenders and taking shots at the goal.
However, in a moment of recklessness, one of the opposing players accidentally hit Y/n in the head with her elbow. It didn't seem like a big thing at first but when Y/n stumbled and fell to the ground with blood streaming from a gash on her forehead everyone rushed to her side.
Leah watched in horror from the other side of the field as Y/n was attended to by the medical staff. She couldn't bear to see her girlfriend hurt, and she was worried about the extent of the injury.
However, Leah and Y/n had not yet gone public with their relationship, and Leah knew that she couldn't show her true emotions in front of the world. So, she tried to remain composed as she watched Y/n being taken off the field on a stretcher.
Losing sight of her girlfriend Leah panicked and asked the coach to be allowed to accompany Y/n to the hospital. Deep down she knew that Y/n was too important to her to be kept a secret any longer, but unfortunately, she had to stay behind because the game was still going and the team couldn't lose another star.
It was a long and agonizing wait for Leah. She paced back and forth on the field, her heart pounding with worry. She couldn't concentrate on anything else but Y/n's well-being.
Finally, the game ended with a win for Arsenal, and Leah rushed to the hospital.
Leah's heart was pounding in her chest as she rushed into the hospital room, her eyes searching frantically for Y/n's bed. She had been worried sick about Y/n since she had suffered a concussion earlier in the match.
When Leah finally found Y/n's bed, she felt a wave of relief wash over her. But that relief quickly turned to concern when she saw Y/n's tired, pained expression.
"Hey," Leah said softly, taking Y/n's hand in hers. "How are you feeling?"
Y/n winced, her hand going to her forehead. "My head hurts," she said, wincing as she spoke.
Leah nodded sympathetically. "I know," she said. "The doctors said it's normal to have headaches after a concussion. Is there anything I can do to help?"
Y/n shook her head. "I just want to take a nap," she said. "It feels like my brain is trying to get out of my head."
Leah frowned, knowing that the doctors had ordered Y/n to avoid sleeping without being monitored. She didn't want Y/n to do anything that could make her condition worse.
"Hey," she said, leaning in close to Y/n. "I have an idea. Why don't I talk to you? Maybe it will help you relax and stay awake."
Y/n nodded weakly, leaning back against her pillow.
Leah took a deep breath and began to talk about anything that came to mind. She told Y/n stories about their childhood, talked about their favorite soccer players, and even sang some of their favorite songs.
After a while, Leah couldn't help stopping her tears any longer and started sobbing all her worries as she sat by Y/n's side, holding her hand and promising to take care of her.
Over the next few weeks, Leah took care of Y/n as she recovered from her concussion. She helped her with her rehab exercises, cooked her meals, and kept her company during long days at home.
As they spent more time together, Leah realized that she couldn't keep their relationship a secret any longer. Y/n was too important to her, and she wanted the world to know how much she loved her.
So, one day, as they sat together on the couch, Leah took Y/n's hand and said, "I want everyone to know that you're mine. I love you, Y/n."
Y/n smiled and squeezed Leah's hand. "I love you too," she said.
From that moment on, Leah and Y/n were no longer hiding their relationship. They stood proudly together, supporting each other through the ups and downs of life on and off the field. And as they ran onto the soccer field together, hand in hand, the crowd cheered them on, knowing that they were a team that couldn't be beaten.
The Decision
(AWFC x reader)
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Getting your first call up to the senior team was terrifying.
When Leah tore her ACL she was devastated and was worried for her team. She knew that there was a spot available in the first team for Arsenal and she knew exactly who the right person was to cover her position until she was ready to comeback.
She had been following your football journey with Arsenal’s academy, you joined the academy when you were only 12 years old and ever since you had been there.
Leah Williamson is your idol; she is the one who inspired you to become a defender. You wanted to do the same as her, go through the academy ranks until you could get your debut with the first team.
As soon as she realized that her spot was available, she told Jonas about you. Nothing else would fulfill her heart more than another talent from the academy playing in her place.
The moment Jonas accepted her recommendation you couldn’t believe it, with only 18 years you were going to have your debut.
When you learned that Leah was the one who recommended you the tears started coming out. You immediately sent her a message thanking her for the recommendation while also saying that you wouldn’t disappoint her.
Playing your debut was a dream came true. The team received you with open arms and quickly adopted you as the baby of their family. Katie became the cool aunt, Leah, and Lotte your big sisters, Beth and Viv became your team mums even if they still were in recovery and Steph became your mentor.
After having an incredible performance for the games that you played last season with the first team Arsenal offered you a formal contract so you could stay with them.
Not only Arsenal noticed your amazing performances but so did Serina Wiegman. You had played for England U’19 team however, you hadn’t had your debut for a senior team and with your father being Dutch either of both national teams could call you up.
Sarina called you after the World Cup, she told you about the possibility of playing for the senior team of the Lionesses. When you received the call, you were in shock, in less than a year your dreams of playing for a national team and for the first team of Arsenal could come true.
A few days later Andries Jonker called you to see if you were interested in playing for the Oranje Leeuwinnen.
In the Arsenal locker room, everyone knew that you could play for both national teams and with the Nations League starting soon you needed to take a decision. You were scared to see the reactions of your team when you had to take the decision.
— — — — — — — — — — — — — — — — — — — — — — — — — — —
Everyone in the locker room wanted to know your decision as it hadn’t been announced so, as everyone started changing clothes for the training session a discussion started.
“Oi! y/nn. Have you decided for which team to play?” Katie asked with a loud voice.
“Her favorite color is orange, so the answer is obvious” Vic said with a proud smile
“No! We all know that her future is to be a Lioness!” said Beth also with a proud smile
“Yeah! White really suits her so no doubt she’ll be a Lioness!” Alessia said
Leah could see in your face a worried expression. She sat next to your cubicle and whispered “y/nn it doesn’t matter for who are you going to play I’m proud of you. Everything that you have accomplished in such a short time has been incredible. You’ve earned it”
It was time for the training session and the discussion was still going on.
“Girls! We need to start! I’m sure that y/n will take a decision soon. Whichever team she decides to play for will be lucky to have her. So, let’s start training” you couldn’t help but to send Jonas a thankful smile as you hated to be the center of attention.
It was the day when the squads for the firsts Nations League games were going to be announced.
Your decision had already been taken as you called. Some days ago, you talked with one of the managers to thank him/her for the opportunity but that you had decided to play for the other national team.
The whole team was in the cafeteria eating when a sound from the television called their attention.
“Breaking news!
The squads for the Nations League games have been announced. Arsenal’s talented young defender y/n l/n has taken her decision! Y/n has decided to reject the offer from the Dutch National Team and officially is a Lioness!”
As soon as those words left the Sky News presenter mouth you could see your team’s reaction.
Katie was receiving 20 pounds from Lia as they had a bet going on.
The Aussies were giving you proud smiles as they knew that your dream of representing a country was coming true.
Beth and Alessia started singing “It’s coming home” jokingly and Lotte couldn’t help but to laugh at them.
Viv and Vic were giving them fake sad faces.
And finally, Leah, she had an enormous smile on her face.
Viv and Vic stood up and hugged you.
“y/nn don’t worry I know that you started creating fake scenarios in your head about Vic and me being upset at you and those couldn’t be farther from the truth. We are proud of you” Viv whispered to your ear.
“Yeah y/nn! Remember that if it doesn’t works the Oranje Leeuwinnen will always be there for you” Vic said winking at you.
You gave them a shy smile and before you could talk Alessia took your hand a brought you next to Beth, Lotte and Leah.
“y/n! I can’t wait for you to formally meet Tooney!” said Alessia.
Beth and Leah couldn’t help but to jokingly groan as they knew that a chaotic trio was about to be formed.
“Also, y/nn you can learn a lot from Millie and from Lucy!” said Lotte.
You let them talk while you realized that there was nothing to be worried for. Arsenal was your second family, and nothing would have changed even after the decision.
Abandoned?
Warnings: Injury, serious chest injury, ambulance, hospitals, parental abandonment, mentions of death. A/N: In this fic the most recent international break was friendlies… This was a request from someone on wattpad.
Tumblr media
It was the 25th minute when Fox kicked a ball, unfortunately for you it came hurtling towards you and before you could move out of the way it crash into your chest, the sound of the ball connecting with your upper torso reverberated through the stadium as you collapsed to the ground from the force, you immediately grabbed your chest as you rolled around the pitch clearly in agony, medics from both teams were on the pitch before the game was paused, there was no time to waste.
Your chest felt tight, it felt like someone squeezed your heart every time it beat, you could almost feel bubbles ‘pop’ in your chest, and your chest heaved with every breath as you struggled to get air in, whilst also feeling incredible pain every time you sucked in the slightest bit of air.
The stadium was dead silent, it was like there wasn’t a single soul there. And when the ref finally blew the whistle after what felt like hours, the ambo cart immediately raced its way across the pitch to where you laid, surrounded by medics. Sheets were quickly brought onto the pitch and held up around you by various training staff of both teams to provide some protection against the various cameras that surrounded you, an announcement was made informing all media to seize action of cameras however that wouldn’t have stopped the public from trying to get photos.
-
Leah felt time slow down when you hit the pitch, she felt her body freeze, she was standing there staring at the spot you laid surrounding my medics, and paramedics, she didn’t know what to feel, it was almost like her body had forgotten to feel. All your fellow teammates stood there watching her, not knowing whether they should go over to her or not, however when they saw the sheets being brought out they knew it was bad, it basically never happened. Lucy started to make her way over to their Skipper, Kiera and Georgia followed behind her, knowing Leah needed support in this moment. They watched her fall to her knees as announcement was made, leaning forward, burying her face into the grass, her shoulders shook harshly as sobs wracked her body. A circle was formed around them by the USWNT as they tried to comfort Leah. Leah had absolutely broken down, she didn't know how to feel, she was just hoping, praying for dear life that they weren't resuscitating you behind those sheets. You lived with Leah, spending almost every second of every day with her, she didn't know what would happen, how she would cope if you left her.
Diagonally across the pitch from the circle, stood Lotte, who had her arms around Fox, the American cried into her shoulder, he body shook as her fellow arsenal teammates tried to comfort her, reassuring her that this wasn't her fault and that it would be okay.
-
A paramedic was running over to the crowd and waved a man down who was brought onto the pitch, he was one of the Trauma Doctors at St Mary’s and just happened to watching the game with his family on his day off, “Update us” he said as he made his way through the sheets with the paramedic, “pulse is thready, bpm of 163, clear respiratory distress, muffled chest sounds, GCS score unattainable,” “c-spine collar,” you were placed into a neck brace, “prep for an on field thoracostomy,” someone said, before your jersey was cut off and the cold air hit your skin as they disinfected the area, “this is going to hurt, stabilise her,” you felt a knife cut into you and you moaned out in pain, before something was stuck in your chest, and an oxygen mask was placed over your face, you felt a pair of hands leave your body, and heard the sound of heavy boots crunch in the wet cool grass, indicating someone was running somewhere.
“Ready for transfer,” there was a silence, “on my count, 1,2,3,” your body was held straight as you were tipped on your side, the movement causing you to feel slightly dizzy and you could almost hear bugs in your ears, something hard and cold was placed against your back “and 1,2,3,” you were tipped onto your back again, now lying on the backboard, as the foam blocks were placed next to your head and secured your world started to go a little hazy, as someone readjusted the tube that was stuck in your chest.
“Stay with us y/n,” you tried to open your eyes further but you couldn’t and suddenly everything went black.
________
“And the parents are on their way? Or so I’ve heard,” you faintly heard someone say as they stood outside your room. You had just woken up, and everything was still slightly hazy.
You quickly came to at those words, you eyes widened, and you felt your chest start to get tight again, your heart pounded, you were shaking, your breath was ragged, “I-I don’t want to see them,” you stammered out as you shook your head, and tears started to fall from your eyes, Leah didn’t know ones heart could break so many times in one day but here she was, feeling her heart break for at least the second time. She quickly got up so she could be closer to you, taking your hands in hers, “No baby,” she shook her head, face etched with pain, no matter how much you hated your parents, she knew this was going to hurt. “It’s not them anymore, they, they,” she let out a heavy sigh, “they gave you up, they signed away their rights. When they got the call, they said that it wasn’t their duty to make the decisions or to take care of you, they, they said they didn’t want to be associated with you, they came to the hospital, purely to sign the papers to give away their guardianship,” Leah watched as a range of emotions crossed your face, you couldn’t believe it, yes they had already kicked you out and you barely spoke. But this was different. This was something else. This was complete abandonment, they didn’t want anything to do with you anymore. “I’m sorry baby, I’m so so sorry, I-” Leah was cut off my the loud alarm sounding on the monitor, your panic had caused your heart rate to get to high and your oxygen levels too low, your chest heaved with every breath again, and you could feel it burn as oxygen entered your lungs, but that pain was nothing, nothing could ever compare to the feeling of being disowned legally by your parents. Knowing they travelled all the way to the hospital, just to sign a piece of paper to say they didn't love you anymore.
You had just finished facetiming Kyra, Steph and Caitlin, when you turned your head to face Leah, who was sitting in the chair near your bed, her face seemed serious as she read something on her phone.
“We aren’t playing Bristol City,” she suddenly announced “well obviously,” you rolled your eyes at her, “no like the club isn’t, they forfeited,” “oh,” you paused for a minute, “I want to see Emily,” you blurted out, the thought having been circling your mind for the last however long.
“I don’t think that is the best idea, B-” “But why? It’s not her fault, she did nothing wrong,” “That’s not the reason why bubs, Emily is struggling at the moment, she knows it wasn’t her fault, but she feels like it is, because she kicked the ball, she didn't mean to hit you, but she does feel guilty, she feels like she just shouldn’t have kicked the ball.” You nodded your head, and picked up your phone, scrolling through instagram, when you came across statements from both Arsenal and England.
An update from the England Lionesses: Y/N is in a stable condition, she is awake and talking. Her recovery will be in the hands of her club and we wish her all the best. We ask that out of respect for the players and those involved that no photos or videos taken during/after the incident are shared, these players are people too and deserve privacy. We are thankful for all our fans' support and apologise for the abandonment of the match, all tickets will be refunded.
Arsenal WFC have released a statement: After discussions with our players, staff, Bristol City and the FA we have come to the decision that we will be forfeiting our next fixture in the WSL against Bristol City, we understand what this decision means and how it affects our position in the table however we must keep our players wellbeing at the forefront during this time period and in no way would it be fair or right of us to ask any of our players to play a match in the coming days. The incident involving y/n has affected every single one of our players deeply and we want to be able to take the next few days to focus on their wellbeing and health, something we could not do if we were to have a game. We would like to reassure the public that y/n is in safe hands and is in a stable condition.
As you finished reading the statement from Arsenal you felt your bottom lip start to quiver, you looked over to Leah who was once again looking at her phone,  “I’m sorry,” “for what?” she softly asked, “for scaring everyone, I-I didn’t mean to,” you quietly spoke as soft tears fell from your eyes, “hey, hey, none of that, it wasn’t anyone's fault okay, we all just care about you and want to make sure you’re okay,” she reassured you as she moved to sit with you in the bed, “okay” you said as you moved to lean your head back on her shoulder, “I love you so much, we all do, never forget that,”
Meeting again | Part 1 - Part 2 | Leah Williamson x Reader
Where you take your son to Leah's book signing and you reconnect with your high school friend/crush.
Happy birthday to our blonde pookie!
Woso masterlist | Words: 2.7k
-----
You were doing some work around the house when your ex called. “Hey Ryan, what’s up?” You say as you turn off the vacuum. “Hi y/n, I’m so sorry. I know that it’s my day, but I’m going to be stuck at work until late. Is there any way you can pick up Liam from school and take him to that book signing from Leah?” The two of you had gotten a divorce many years ago, when you had finally come to terms with your sexuality. Ryan had always been understanding, and now you were still friends, and co-parented your son Liam together. “Oh yeah, don’t worry, I can do that.” You could hear the relief in his voice. “Thank you so much, I owe you one. He has a half day, so he should be done at school in about an hour. I packed his Arsenal jersey and scarf, he wanted to wear them to the signing. Thank you again, I have to go. Send me pictures of the signing?”  Your kid would always be your number one priority, so you hung up the phone and got ready.
“Hey bud, your dad is stuck at work, so I’m going to take you to Waterstones later, is that okay?” The boy greeted you with a hug. “Yes, of course, you’ll get to see Leah again!” Back in high school you and Leah were very close, there was even some gossip about the two of you dating, but when you got wind of that you shut those rumours down quickly by starting a relationship with Ryan, a relationship that drove a wedge between your friendship with Leah. Your love for the women’s game continued to grow though, and you have supported Arsenal all your life, just like Leah. Liam fell in love with it too, and you often found yourself amongst the crowd of Arsenal WFC and Lionesses matches together. Liam was a smart kid, and after finding you looking at TikTok videos of Leah, he started asking questions. “Watch it, or we’re not going.” You said with a fake seriousness. Liam knew full well that it was an empty threat as you loved messing with him.
You decided to make it a special day for your son, by taking him out for lunch before heading over to Waterstones. It was to no surprise to you that he wanted to go to his favourite restaurant. “Smile for your dad.” The boy looked up from his plate with a big grin on his face. Proudly wearing his Williamson jersey and his Arsenal scarf.
The line at Waterstones was long, but you bought the book and joined the line together. You could tell he was excited just by the way his eyes lit up, and his smile was constantly present on his face. His excitement made you glad that you were able to join him on this occasion, but it didn’t trump your nerves of seeing Leah again. Of course, you had seen her play, but you were always just a person in the crowd, and now you were going to be face to face with the girl you’ve had a crush on since you were fifteen.
Never in your life had you been so nervous to see someone from your past, but you set it aside for your son, this was his moment. Plus Leah would probably not even remember you, right? You were a nobody, and she was the England captain and the Arsenal co-captain.
When it was your turn, Liam walked up to the signing table, while you stood back to take pictures. “Hi, what’s your name?” You heard the blonde ask your son. “I’m Liam, it’s very nice to meet you. My mom is a big fan of yours as well.” The sneaky little bastard, you thought as your eyes met Leah’s. Her eyes showed instant recognition. ‘Yours?’ she mouthed your way, and you answered with a nod. “It’s very nice to meet you too Liam, want to come over to this side for a picture?” Leah signed the book, and wrote something on one of the cards laying to the side as Liam made his way around the table. “I see you’re repping my jersey! You know what would go great with that?” He shook his head. “This new cap, would you like one?” Liam looked over to you with hopeful eyes, “Can I mom?” You smiled at the interaction between Leah and your son, “Yeah, of course.” He turned back to Leah, “Thank you so much!” The two posed for a picture. “Any time Liam. Here is your signed book, and could you please give this card to your mom?” He grinned big when he saw a written phone number on the back of the card. “Thank you Leah!”
“Mom! I got you her number, you have to call her!” You look at the card that Liam handed you ‘Would love to catch up, send me a text if you’re up for it :)’ along with her cell. You looked between the card and Leah, who shot you a smile before returning to the next person in line. “Please tell me you’re going to send her a text, please!” Liam was tired of always seeing you admire Leah from afar, and now that you had a real shot to reconnect with her, he wanted you to take it. Plus how cool would it be if his mom would go out with the Leah Williamson? You pocket the card, “Maybe later, you little snitch. I thought we had a deal.” You say playfully as you put your arm around his shoulder. Quite frankly it scared you a little to send her a text. “Let’s head home.”
When you got home you put Leah’s number in your phone and stared at the message screen forever, trying to decide what to text her. You really wanted to reconnect with her, but you also didn’t want to overcompensate, and ruin any chance you had. You settled on something simple, letting her make the next move.
You: Hi Leah, it’s y/n. It was good seeing you today, catching up sounds nice.
You hadn’t expected to get a message back from her so soon.
Leah: So glad we ran into each other. Talk about the details later?
The message notification was staring back at you, your heart was beating out of your chest simply from her message. You quickly put your phone away, without opening her message when Liam walks in. “Mom, you know that I want you to be happy right?” You nod, “Of course, I know that kiddo. What makes you say that?” He shrugs, “I just don’t want you to hold back because of me.” You shake your head, “You’re too smart. I love you, kiddo.” He hugs your side, “I love you too, mom.”
The two of you were hanging out at home, when Ryan called again. “Hey, thank you for sending me those pictures. They really made my day, glad to see him so happy.” You notice the exhaustion behind his words, “Yeah of course, I don’t want you to miss out on stuff because of your job.” Liam was so important to the both of you, but your divorce had led to missing some things here and there, that you always tried to minimise together. “Speaking of work, I should be done around eight. You know I hate to ask, but-” You interrupted him, “You don’t have to ask, of course. Pick him up whenever you are done, okay?” You heard the relief in his voice, “Thank you. Can I talk to him for a moment?” You walk over to Liam and hand him the phone, “It’s your dad.” After handing him your phone, you give him some space to talk to his dad.
You continued vacuuming since you weren’t done when you had to pick up Liam from school. So, you didn’t hear the interaction with Ryan, or when the call was over, and definitely not when you got another phone call. Liam looked at the contact and smirked to himself. When he realised you didn’t hear the phone call, he picked up himself. “Hi Leah, it’s Liam.” The girl had not expected your son to pick up, but she went with it anyway. “Hey Liam! How did you like the book signing?” He told her how much he enjoyed it before Leah continued with her questions. “I was looking for your mom, is she around?” If it were a video call, Leah would have seen the mischievous look in Liam’s eyes, but since it was a voice call he could hide behind the screen. “She is a little busy right now, but she said she wanted to invite you over for dinner tonight if you had time.” Leah knew she should’ve questioned it more, but she wanted to see you so badly, that she set up dinner plans with your son.
Just ten minutes before Leah said she would be there Liam came walking up to you. “Hey mom, so I kind of invited Leah over for dinner tonight.” Never in your life had you turned around so quickly, “You did what?” You could not believe what your son had just told you. “She will be here in-” His sentence was interrupted by the doorbell. “Now.” He said with a big smile. You were frozen in place, Leah Williamson was at your door, and you were in sweats and a tank top, your hair a mess from the house work you had been doing for the past hour. “Are you going to let her in?” You turned to Liam, “You are going to be in so much trouble later.” Again, Liam knew there was no actual threat behind your words, because that’s not how you parented.
On your way to the door, you tried to quickly fix your hair. You open the door, “Oh hi Ryan, you’re here early.” He smiles back at you, “Yeah our last meeting got cancelled, sorry I didn’t let you know.” You shake your head, “No, no it’s okay. Liam, your dad is here!” The boy came running into his dad’s arms. “You’re here!” The bond between them was amazing, he truthly loved the both of you equally. “Have you had something to eat yet?” Liam shakes his head, “How does McDonald’s sound?” You grab Liam’s bag, and give him a quick kiss on his cheek, before waving the both of them off.
As soon as you closed the door, you ran up the stairs to quickly get changed, and look more presentable. You had just finished doing your hair when your doorbell rang again. This time it was Leah standing on the other side of the door. “Hi Leah, come in.” She looked so beautiful in her simple white t-shirt and a pair of green cargo pants. “Hey y/n, thank you. No Liam?” She questioned when you walked her further into the house. “He wanted to be here but his dad came to pick him up a little bit ago. I’m sorry to say that McDonald’s has been picked over dinner with you.” You joke, hoping to make the moment a bit lighter. Hearing Leah’s laugh brought you back to those days where you would sit on the grass, and make fun of the boys on the football team.
“So, Liam is a big fan of football then?” Leah started awkwardly. You loved talking about him, so you just started talking. “Yeah, I started taking him to matches when he was still a little baby. He loved it ever since, I can’t go to an Arsenal match without him nowadays. A gooner from the start, just like you.” Leah blushed slightly. “So, you’ve been coming to our matches all this time?” Now it was your turn to blush. “Maybe.” The both of you laugh. “Ryan surprisingly never got into football, so it’s been something I get to share with Liam.” The name you mentioned caught Leah’s attention. “Wait Ryan is Liam’s dad? You actually married high school Ryan?” You realised that bringing his name up was probably a mistake since he is what drove the two of you apart. “Oh yeah, high school Ryan indeed. Liam’s dad indeed, and I did marry him. We haven’t been married for like five years though.”
Leah’s ears perk up at that. “Oh, I’m sorry to hear that.” You shrug your shoulders, “It’s all good, it was time I finally figured out my sexuality. We’re still friends, and he's great with Liam. Anyways, how have you been?” The two of you start talking and catching up, and somehow even though more than a decade had passed and you had lived such different lives, it felt like you had never not known each other.
You walk into the kitchen together, still talking, when the both of you start getting hungry. That is when you realise that you had to go to the grocery store today, and didn’t have much in the house. “So, confession time. I didn’t actually know you were coming over until Liam told me about ten minutes before you arrived.” Leah laughed, “I had a feeling the invite wasn’t extended by you, but I didn’t want the opportunity to go to waste.” You blush at her words. “I am very happy that you are here, don’t get me wrong. I was just not prepared. It was Ryan’s day with the kid, but he got stuck at work so I didn’t have a chance to go to the grocery store like I had originally planned. Let’s see, I have Potato Smileys, and literally nothing else. I am so sorry.” Leah did not care what you would eat one bit, she was just happy to be there with you. “Good thing I love Potato Smileys then!”
You shared a laugh at the situation and decided to make the best of it. While the Potato smileys were in the oven, you set the table with some condiments to go along with them. As you were waiting for the Smileys to cook, you and Leah fell back into conversation. You were reminiscing over old times, and shared stories from the past years since. It was easy talking to her, it really felt like no time had passed.
Once you were done with dinner, you moved to the living room where you each found a comfortable place on the couch to continue catching. Before you realised it, hours had passed by. Leah looked at her watch, and noticed the time first. “Oh it’s late, I hadn’t realised so much time had passed.” You glance at the clock yourself, “Wow, yeah it is. I’m really glad you came over tonight, catching up with you has been great.” Leah smiled in return, “Yes it was, I’ve missed this. I hope we can hang out again soon!” You walk her to the door, “For sure! Liam and I will be at the match Sunday, maybe we can do something after? If you don’t mind him tagging along of course.” Her smile grew big, “I would love that, and for Liam to tag along always!”
As you said goodbye, and Leah got into her car you couldn’t help but feel hopeful for what the future might hold. Just having Leah back into your life in whatever way possible made you extremely happy. Tonight had been so nice, and you really wanted to see Leah again soon, Sunday didn’t feel soon enough. So, you decided to send her a message. You felt less nervous sending this message than the one this afternoon, but still there were some nerves.
You: Would you maybe want to grab a coffee sometime this week? I’d love to meet up sooner than Sunday.
As you were getting ready to go to bed, your phone dinged with a new message.
Leah: I know a great spot! Are you free tomorrow?
You smiled at the text, Leah proposing tomorrow had to mean she wanted to see you again soon too, right? You quickly let her know you’re free, before sending her a goodnight message and calling it a night. Though, your mind kept you up for a while longer, not wanting to let go of today just yet.
Rachel Daly x Millie Bright x Reader
Part Nine - Our Girl
The incident in Barcelona became less prominent in your mind as the days that followed passed, your bruises had started to fade and you were starting to settle back into your life with Rachel. Millie had popped by every day to check on you and the entire incident had made the news, programmes like This Morning had approached to tell your story but you didn’t feel ready yet. It was still too raw to talk about with your girlfriend let alone the entire world! Nevertheless you knew it would be a good opportunity to shine a light onto the treatment of women - nothing that women already didn’t know but it helps to keep the conversation at the forefront of people’s minds. You said you’d contact them when you’re ready but for now you’re just trying to transition back into your normal life. With your blessing, Millie had partaken in interviews discussing what happened in the bar and was revelling in the praise being given that she so rightly deserved. You’d give her every award that existed if you could, without her you don’t know what would have happened. The house was covered in flowers and you had eaten your weight in chocolate that had been sent from people who wanted to show their support; mostly teammates of Rach and Mills but your family and friends had also visited once you returned home. You know what happened to you isn’t the worse thing to ever happen to a woman and felt a bit guilty of all the attention being throw your way when there’s people out there who have dealt with so much worse who don’t receive half the attention that your story has. It’s only because patrons in the bar shared their videos online and the incident involved England’s captain that it had reached media outlets. Rachel reminded you every day that you’re allowed to feel cared for too, you don’t have to be silent just because someone has it worse than you. Millie came over most evenings to wind down with you both, sometimes not going back to her own house and staying the night. Her visits had become a lot more subdued and often consisted of you all just sitting on the sofa watching films; you three didn’t need words to make you feel at peace, just each other’s company was enough.
Your bruises that had faded to yellow were a few days from disappearing completely, with every day you were starting to feel more like yourself again without the constant black and blue reminder of that night on your arm. Every evening when you were snuggled up the girls would stroke it and pepper your skin with silent kisses believing the more love they gave you the quicker it would disappear. They smothered you with their love, reminding you every second of every day that they care so deeply about you. As soon as you made a move to get up they would ask what you wanted and would get it for you, not once did you make the teas during the week after your return, even when you bathed they tenderly washed your hair.
You still went to Rachel’s games and Millie would often be seen in the stands with you rather than at Chelsea ones. You argued that Millie needed looking after too, at least your injury didn’t put World Cup dreams in jeopardy! She should be the one being looked after, not you! The World Cup was approaching fast and in a few months they’ll both be off to Australia, Millie still wasn’t fit enough to play and you were growing more and more concerned with every passing week. The defender put on a positive face, believing with every bone in her body that she’d be better in time. You however, was a bit more realistic.
“Millie sit down, I’ll do this!” you rushed into the kitchen so you could boil the kettle, reaching for three mugs out of the cupboard before she could. “I’m fine!” she expressed, rolling her eyes and batting you away with a limp hand. “No, you’re not! I’m not leaving you here alone, you’re the captain now they need you to get better!” Wrapping your arms around her waist you tried your hardest to pick her up but failed, Millie ‘Brick Wall’ Bright could not be moved! “Rach, tell her!” you shouted over to your girlfriend who was tapping away on her laptop at the table. Looking over the top of the reading glasses to see her girls both stood with their hands on their hips willing her to be on their side. She took her glasses off to get her facial expression to appear more stern “best friend, I can’t go to Australia without you now do what she says!” Rachel was desperately trying to complete her level 2 coaching certificate so she could start her own youth team - not like she didn’t already have enough to do! She’d recently partaken in a youth group programme and her new goal was to create her own.
Turning to face Millie with a confident pout of satisfaction from winning, her eyebrow raised unamused with the decision. “If I’m so unfit, could I do this?” standing her ground as she suddenly picked you up off the floor. “Oh my god Mills put me down! Stop!”wriggling and slapping her back in frustration of not being listened to. Perching you onto the kitchen side and slotting herself between your legs, “better?” she asked sarcastically causing you to roll your eyes. Her move was sexy yet irritating at the same time, folding your arms reluctant to let her disobey you. “I don’t remember you complaining on holiday” her voice turned cocky which finally drew Rachel’s eyes away from the computer to join you both in the kitchen. “I’ve been waiting for the right time to ask this actually, what did happen on holiday?” sensually stroking up your leg as Millie copied on the other. “Is anyone gonna make the tea around here?” desperately trying to change the subject as you reached over to the kettle. Millie blocked your attempt “no” she said shaking her head with that cocky smile of hers. Having them both batting their eyelashes at you and still tickling your legs it was becoming extremely hard to think about anything else apart from throwing yourself at them. “Nah, I wanna know exactly what happened. I’ve waited long enough” Rachel said slowly as she swiped your hand from reaching the kettle switch again. “Millie’s not well enough for this, she shouldn’t even be standing!” you tried to divert their attention but actively not making any attempt to flee their advances. “I remember picking you up last week and you didn’t argue” she stroked the hair that dangled in front of your face away from your eyes, willing you to drop it. “I was drunk, I wasn’t thinking about your knee I was thinking about-” you shouted exhausted before being cut off by Rachel, “what.. what were you thinking about my love? Tell me” she encouraged. With them both looking up at you with their big blue eyes you caved “getting fucked! Happy now?” “fucked by who baby?” Rach continued asking with her sickly sweet tone as their finger tips continued sliding up and down your legs. “Millie!” your eyes rolled knowing there was no way you were getting out of this, not that you wanted to and you knew exactly where it was going. Rachel slipped her arms under your legs and lifting you off of the kitchen side, throwing you over her shoulder as she headed for the stairs. “Come on Mills, let’s go fuck our girl” Those words turning you on instantly with anticipation of what was about to happen.
Reaching the bedroom, your lips quickly found Rachel‘s neck, holding your hand out for Millie to take and be included too. “No no no” Rachel stopped you as she pulled her face away from yours. “I want you both to tell me exactly what happened that night, play-by-play” placing you softly onto the bed and ready to listen intently.
As Millie led Rachel through what she had done to you that night, Rachel re-enacted the moment precisely. You’d missed the sexual touch of your girlfriend as Millie watched her go down on you. Next, you told Rachel what you did to Millie and watched as she recreated the sequences on her best friend. The night continued well into the morning with you three fumbling around in the bedsheets together for hours.
