E allora mi sono guardato negli occhi. Raramente ci si guarda, con se stessi, negli occhi, e pare che in certi casi questo valga per un esercizio estremo. Dicono che, immergendosi allo specchio nei propri occhi – con attenzione cruciale e al tempo stesso con abbandono – si arrivi a distinguere finalmente in fondo alla pupilla l'ultimo Altro, anzi l'unico e vero Sestesso, il centro di ogni esistenza e della nostra, insomma quel punto che avrebbe nome Dio. Invece, nello stagno acquoso dei miei occhi, io non ho scorto altro che la piccola ombra diluita (quasi naufraga) di quel solito niño tardivo che vegeta segregato dentro di me. Sempre il medesimo, con la sua domanda d'amore ormai scaduta e inservibile, ma ostinata fino all'indecenza.
