thinking about ultear
ultear who's always had too much magic power. ultear who waits for ur to come back, who hopes and hopes. ur never comes, and ultear has a chilling realization that she might be an experiment forever. ultear who forges herself out of fire and pain, who learns time magic because it's the only thing that can keep up with her strength, because it's the only way she can think of seeing her mother again. ultear who loves her but resents her but loves her.
ultear who becomes a mother so, so slowly. she realizes what's happening when meredy starts going to her for advice, for magic training, for the most mundane things. ultear who doesn't stop meredy, who indulges the young girl. she doesn't know what meredy sees in her, but she doesn't say anything either.
ultear who restores tenrou island to its original state so that fairy tail can fight at their full power against grimoire heart. ultear who tries to kill herself so meredy won't have to. ultear who feels the ghost of her mother hug her as she pushes her to the surface of the water, who feels ur's presence as she promises to stay alive for meredy. she won't leave her daughter like her mother left her.
ultear who tries to atone for her crimes with meredy and jellal. ultear who gives crime sorcière her all. ultear who genuinely feels like she's making a difference, until she hears of the eclipse plan. until she wants to kill rogue cheney to prevent a horrible future from happening. ultear who thinks she hasn't changed at all, still cunning and ruthless and willing to kill anyone for her goals. ultear who thinks she doesn't deserve the kindness she's been shown by her comrades.
ultear who casts lost ages. ultear who gives up her magic, her time, her life. seven years ago, she would have left crocus for dead. now, ultear milkovich gives up everything to give her friends a fighting chance.

Yandere Ultear Milkovich
Tumblr media
🕰I feel like it would depend on whether we're talking about Pre-timeskip and post-timeskip Ultear. I feel like before finding out the truth of her mother, Ultear would be a lot more possessive and ruthless when it comes to her s/o. She's experienced the pain of being abandoned and losing her mother which might indicate that she has the underlying fear to be left by her darling as well but she never shows it due to a belief that if she shows weakness, you'll explore it. Due to her anxiety Ultear is rather controlling and keeps you with her whenever she isn't on missions for Hades or somewhere else and Meredy is tasked to keep an eye out for you if she isn't there. Manipulative and not afraid to intimidate her s/o, even if Ultear is considerate and calm most of the times. Whilst she is aware of her obsession in this time, I feel like she'd be too overwhelmed with her emotions to really just let her darling leave.
🕰Post-timeskip Ultear is a different story because she is so much more laid back and feels guilty without an end for her crimes. She's more of a stalker and approaches her s/o seldom. It's a bit like a Itachi scenario where she knows that she might bring her darling in troubles if someone would find out that she has visited you and to top it, Ultear is too ashamed to really show her face in front of you. She's aware of her mistakes and her obsession, believes that she doesn't really deserve someone as kind as you who hasn't done anything wrong. She doesn't want to drag you into her mess and past so she stays away from you for the biggest part. See her more as a silent guardian angel who watches over when she isn't away with Jellal and Meredy.
🕰Pre-timeskip Ultear knows that she has a certain rank among other members of Grimoire Heart as someone who has mastered the Arc of Time but that doesn't stop her from wanting to isolate you a bit. Less for selfish reasons though but more because she views other members of the guilt as freaks and as danger to you. Meredy is the only one who she's completely fine with being around you and maybe Hades a bit since he took her under his wings. She views jealousy as petty so the times where she does get jealous, she'll most likely downplay it. Given that she is already a calm woman during that time, she's less jealous and more protective due to the guilt she is in. Post-timeskip Ultear is even more composed and probably someone in a rather selfless category. She just wants her darling to have a happy life and doubts that she can fill that empty spot next to you. There is no denial that she would feel jealous if she would notice that you are really close to someone but it's more bittersweet for her than anything.
🕰Pre-timeskip Ultear would definitely kill fo her darling. She's committed so much atrocities already due to her ambitions and she'll commit even more for you. Members in Grimoire Heart all know that you are Ultear's darling so most wouldn't try anything funny though certain members do like to rile her up a bit by attempting to get close to you. It's a really ruthless era of hers to the point where she will murder in cold blood if someone tries to hurt you since she is at her core a bit paranoid. Post-timeskip Ultear, finished with being a sinner, isn't out to kill people unless it is for the greater good. If her darling has problems, she usually solves them behind the shadows and Meredy is supporting her whenever she can. She goes more with sabotage, mostly with the help of her magic, or intimidating and scaring someone.
🕰Pre-timeskip Ultear is almost guaranteed to kidnap her s/o due to her possessiveness and paranoia. In the time she was away from her mother, Ur adopted two kids and Ultear was convinced that she had been replaced and abandoned so she fears what will happen if she leaves you alone for a longer and what she will find when she comes back. It spurs her to kidnap her darling even if she'd prefer to manipulate them into joining her instead of going instantly with brute force. Nothing is holding her back from using violent methods though but she has so many weapons at her arsenal that it probably isn't even needed. Post-timeskip Ultear wouldn't interfere with your life at all if I'm being honest. Even if you'd want to travel with her, she'd push you forcefully away since he path and journey isn't yours to take. She comes to visit when she can though.
🕰No matter which time, Meredy is always going to be the no. 1 supporter of this relationship. She knows Ultear very well and realizes even during the Grimoire Heart times that she has a soft spot for you and she wants her to be happy which requires keeping you and making you comfortable around her. Her pink-haired friend is also constantly arguing with Ultear when both of them join Crime Sorciére since she doesn't buy Ultear's philosophy of not deserving love after all crimes she's committed. Jellal isn't as pushy as their comrade and for that it's easier to converse peacefully with him. Ultear lets you ultimately decide whether or not you want her face anywhere near you since she takes after a while the, either couragous or just stupid, step to tell you the truth about who she is. Even if you'd still want her, she'd constantly feel like you're too good for her.

Series- Fairy tail
Pairing- Jerza
title-Resolve
Summary- with newfound optimism, erza and jellal, resolve the knitted tension in their relationship
fanfiction net- https://www.fanfiction.net/s/13961569/1/Resolve
AO3- https://archiveofourown.org/works/34085569
Erza clutched the contents of her purchase closer to her chest as she made a hasty retreat across the boulevard, heading straight towards the residence of a person she wanted to visit. It had started drizzling a while ago and the group of people gallivanting in front her quickly split apart in order to find a shelter to rest. She ran towards the end of the street, nearing her place of destination.
Gasping lightly, she opened the doorknob and set the slightly damp contents near the door. She took off her boots and stepped into the hall.
‘Erza? Is that you?’, she heard a faint voice coming from the kitchen.
She walked past the living room, following the sweet husky that lured her in.
‘Yes, Jellal. Its me.’, brushing down her skirt, she examined her clothes and made a mental note to take a quick shower.
‘Did you find the stuff you were looking for?’, Jellal enquired he stirred the contents of the pot for their dinner.
‘I did. I will store it in my Requip space after it gets dry. It started drizzling on my way back’
‘Really? Do you want a warm towel to dry yourself?’, he left the stove at sim and walked closer to take a good look at her.
‘No, its fine. Can I take a shower though?’
‘Sure. Our dinner will be ready by then.’
She murmured a low thank you and smiled at him flirtatiously before making her way to the bathroom.
It was somewhat cruel, she pondered as the water droplets trail down her body. Fate had a cruel way of keeping them apart from each other. Before it was his self-resolve and now it was her priorities that she had to fulfil. She thought they would finally get some time together after the Aldoron episode but their misadventure to Elentir ended up absorbing their entire time. And before she knew, they had to prepare to leave for the 100 years quest.
She remembered briefly telling him of her Endeavours that her team undertook to follow unwaveringly. Of course, she wasn’t bound to disclose the details but she felt as if she was tricking him into something he didn’t sign up for. After all, she wasn’t sure when she would return from their 100 years quest. What will she tell him? How long will he wait? When would the mission ultimately end? 2 years? 5? 7? She didn’t know the answer herself.
Her heart started hammering uncontrollably as she recalled the night when he finally took her into warm arms, enveloping her into a hug that she yearned and dreamed for years, whispering in her ears that he was free to love people, which implied that he had forgiven himself and was trying to take a step towards resolving the knitted tension between them. That he was ready to face his feelings for her. That he was ready to show his affection for her openly, unrestrained by any underlying guilt, that he was ready to hold her hand and walk towards the future, their future, together.
Realising how much time she wasted being anxious in her thoughts, she quickly grabbed a towel, and changed into some casual wear. After informing Jellal of her intentions, he decided to invite her for dinner, at the inn he was staying, as a last attempt to spend some time together before her ultimate departure tomorrow.
She made her way to the kitchen where he was busy eviscerating the contents of the pot into their plates.
‘Already done? I wanted to help you.’
‘that’s okay. You’ve got lots of stuff to do tomorrow’, he smiled as he finished pouring their food, laying them in an elegant fashion on the table. She helped him in bringing some cutlery before settling down and digging into their food.
Their dinner was short and they made a quick small talk throughout it. He was talking more animatedly as compared to before, she noted. His features were relaxed, he was no more rigid or talking in a concise manner. They had a habit of bringing missions and current affairs in the magic world , into their conversations; to keep themselves updated with the happenings all around them. From a third persons perspective it would seem as if they only discuss work related matters but in actual reality, Erza realised that she could talk to him about literally anything.
She doesn’t really have to pretend in front of him. That was established a long time ago. They were each other’s saviour. They knew each other more than anyone else did. It amazed her somehow, how well they resonated with each other despite not spending much time like normal couples did.
Couple? Were they one?
The status of their relationship was still obscure but she felt they were getting somewhere. If not smoothly, but slowly and steadily they were progressing towards a definite answer. She felt even more confident after their little-date? Rendezvous? - she could call it a little rendezvous to be on the safe side.
She scurried the last remains of her food before settling her spoon besides her plate. She took the napkin kept before and wiped her mouth gently.
‘Did you like it?’ Jellal asked her curiously, as he slowly reached across the table and took hold of her hand.
‘I did. But it was a little spicy for my taste. But I enjoyed it!’, she responded vividly from her seat to make her intentions clear. She couldn’t help but notice, his display of affections was getting evidently frequent.
They had walked around the town during the day, catching up with each other after they had their little rendezvous, and the entire time they were together, Jellal didn’t let go of her hand even once. It felt nice to walk besides him, holding hands, blushing and chatting spiritedly. He would seldom squeeze her hand and pull her a little closer to whisper something in her ears. Was this for real?
‘Well would you fancy some wine?’, Erza snapped herself out of her daydream upon hearing his question.
‘Yes, of course!’
‘Sweet, let me bring the bottle’
She helped him pick up the dirty utensils. After washing and cleaning the dishes, they settled themselves on the couch in a cosy manner. They brought over the glasses and the bottle and lit up the fire place as the cold fumes had started to invade the room from outside.
‘It sure is getting cold, I wonder if the trains would get delayed if it were to start snowing’, she remarked as she rubbed her palms together.
‘Here’, Jellal handed her a glass of red wine, ‘ It will warm you up’
She accepted the glass and took a sip from it- relishing in that delicacy.
‘Have you ever tried a Gin, Jellal?’, he shook his head, ‘No I haven’t, I did see it on display when I went to buy the wine’.
‘It’s a flavoured vodka made from berries and has a nice citrusy touch to it. Add it to a coke with some lemon and ice cubes and you are good to go.’
‘How about we try it together next time we have meet for dinner or lunch?’
Next time. And when will that be?
Erza heaved a distressing sigh making it awfully palpable to Jellal that something was definitely perturbing her. He kept his glass on the table and gently nudged her.
‘I know something is eating you up. What is it?’, he caressed his fingertips against her cheek.
Erza crossed her legs, and hesitantly looked up to meet his eyes, ‘I can’t help but think how selfish it is of me to suggest you joining fairy tail while I go off on a long mission for gods knows how long. I don’t know when will I return. What will you do till then? You can’t wait for me indefinitely. I don’t know what to think. I feel happy spending time with you but when I think about my pending mission, I feel like I am deceiving you’
‘Alright, you don’t need to hammer yourself down by overthinking this issue excessively’, he swung his arm around her shoulders protectively. Erza sighed before leaning into his embrace naturally, snuzzling her head against his shoulder.
‘Personally, I don’t think you are deceiving me’
‘But I don’t know when will I return!’
‘I know, but you will return someday, right? I don’t know the details of your mission but I am aware that its rather dangerous and long. I…. I don’t mind waiting for you Erza.’
‘What if it takes 10 years for us to complete this mission?’
‘Then I’ll wait 10 years for your return. And no, I don’t think it will take this long to you guys. You are fairy tail’s strongest team after all. And I believe in your ability.’
Feeling some vitality return back to her fingers, Erza gently tugged his free hand, caressing his palm with her thumbs.
‘And it’s not like we would have no contact at all’, he continued to enliven her gloom,’ we have our lacrima phones with which we can talk every day and now with the recent upgradation we can video call each other as well. We just have to development techniques with which we can sustain our contact until you return.’
‘You really are positive about this.’, she looked up and finally smiled, nudging her nose with his cheek. The contact brought shivers down their spines despite the room being adequately warm with the fire lit.
‘I am finally living my life for first time in 29 years, Erza’, he whispered tenderly into her hair, ‘I can’t help not be positive. I have never felt like this before. My brain is gushing with ideas. I had a lot of time to contemplate about myself. There are so many things I want to experience. But first of all, I have to meet up with Meredy and inform her of the proposition you kept before me. I will let you know what our decision will be.’
Erza felt her heart burst with joy when she heard him talking about his future in such an invigorated manner, ‘There is no hurry’.
‘I know but that’s not the only reason I am meeting with her. We detected another suspicious activity near south of Hargeon. We are going to inspect that for a while’.
‘What about the rest of crime sorciere?’
‘A lot of them are busying doing their own stuff. I did inform them about our plan to meet for this mission but it’s their decision to take forth my invitation. I am not going to force my way of life on anyone’
‘I guess everyone has their own version and perception of freedom. Do you miss working with them?’
‘Well, they certainly were a difficult bunch to integrate, initially, but we all corroborated into a small family, I think’, Jellal smiled genuinely as he reminisced their time when they all travelled together in search of their goals and purpose. It did take them some time to get comfortable with each other but when they did, their search for purpose didn’t seem as hopeless as before. They lifted each other in times of despair. They all grew to forgive and love each other.
‘I am so happy for you, Jellal. I am happy to see you so full of life’, Erza lifted her head from his shoulder and took his face in her hands, with tears threatening to fall out, she took a deep breath and kissed his cheek tenderly.
‘Come here’, he could feel his breath quicken as he tugged her legs and urged her to sit on his lap. Erza, hesitant at first, hooked her left thigh over his lap and seated herself comfortably upon them. Her thighs rubbed against his as she noted how strong and muscular, they were.
‘I want to weave a future where I continue to grow as a person, Erza. And I want you beside me. In every step of life, I want to hold your hand and cross every dismay we encounter. And for that, I am willing to wait as long as I have to. So don’t worry about that. I’ll be here when you come back-till then, I will continue to work towards myself and my goal.’
That right there, was the little boy whom she fell in love with in the tower, who dared to challenge life and thrive against every single odd who mocked his resolve. Erza finally let those tears fall and flung her arms around his neck, crying helplessly. Jellal tighten his grip around waist and let his tears fall as well.
‘I love you, Erza. You are the love of my life.’
Erza leaned back to take a good look at his face, which was stained with tears, just like hers. They let out an untimely chuckle, their noses barely touching each other.
‘You are the only man in my heart, Jellal, I love you too’
Their breaths heaved fervently as they neared towards each other. His thumb caressed her cheek that dared to run lower, down to her throat. Their yearning for each other, the desire to hold each other unrestrained, countless nights-days they spent missing and worrying about their beloved’s health- encapsulated itself into a raging storm that invigorated with each breath they took, their sighs synchronised as they closed their eyes and let their lips clash. The entire downpour of emotions came gushing out as if enraptured in a dam. They let their lips meet, then again and then again. The tempestuous storm that reigned supreme came down debilitating into a tranquil walk taken in a warm sunny meadow.
Their arms tightened around each other, refusing to let go. They kissed again, and then again. They emitted a heavy breath and they could swear to God, they didn’t feel this serene before.
‘I love you’, they chanting this phrase for God knows how many times while kissing each other again and again. Resting their foreheads against each other, eyes half-lid from a drug called passion, their lips moved forward for a long and final smooch before going limp each other.
She held him with her arms around his neck, and she held him tight, revitalised with a newfound vivacity and perseverance.
They cuddled in his bed afterwards. He changed into a pair of shorts, shirtless. Erza changed into a pair of shorts and a thin black camisole, not wearing a bra, as she intentionally rubbed herself against his chest, tempting him further.
She flung her left leg over his torso, conquering him successfully. Jellal, flushed red from her actions, held her securely from her waist-kissing her fizzled hair occasionally. He took advantage of his position and didn’t miss an opportunity to play with hair, her hair that he revered so vehemently. He loved her and he wasn’t afraid to say it out loud.
‘It’s overwhelming’
‘What?’, she asked.
‘My feelings for you. I think they will break free and flood the entire town I am afraid. Am I making sense?’ Erza let out a snort as she nuzzled into his neck. Trailing her tongue from his ear to his pulse, she moistened that spot before sucking it and enticing a moan out of his throat.
‘I want to melt into you. Do I make sense?’, she pecked his cheek, awaiting a response from him.
‘You do’-he gasped for air- ‘and you don’t but ignoring the hyperbole, I know exactly what you are talking about. Because I feel the same’. He gave her a cheeky grin and claimed her lips in a passionate smooch. He pulled her on top of him and ran his hands up from her waist, under her camisole, touching every inch of her back, not missing a single spot, reaching the spot where he thought he would find her bra strap-only to find none. That confirmed his doubts when he felt her soft breasts press against him. She leaned down and captured his lips in another enamouring kiss.
‘Erza.’
‘hmm?’
‘Are we a thing now?’
‘a thing?’
‘I mean what is the status of our relationship? It’s kind of vague. Are we dating?’, Jellal put forth courageously, embattled with his own heartbeat drumming against this chest.
She bit her lip nervously and hid her face in his neck timidly, ‘Maybe, I guess.’
Jellal grabbed her waist and aroused from his laying position into a sitting one, taking support of the headrest behind him, he leaned back and took her face in his hands.
‘Erza’
She met his eyes and blushed, ‘Yes’
‘Will you be my girlfriend?’
Her face broke into a huge smile, the most charming smile he ever witnessed in his lifetime.
‘Yes!’, she squealed, brightly, and enraptured his lips into another alluring kiss that he seemed keen on returning.
‘I am going to miss you. I am going to miss you a lot Erza.’
‘Have you packed everything?’, Jellal asked her pensively, going through a list of necessities that she might need on her rough travels.
‘Yes’
‘The package from yesterday evening?’
‘Yes, everything is done’, Erza answered as she bends down to tie her boots.’ When do you leave for Hargeon?’
‘My train is at 5. I still have time to pack. I don’t have much stuff anyways’
‘I see. Keep me updated with the towns you visit.’
‘I will. You keep me updated with your travels as well.’
‘Of course. So, call me whenever to get time. If I don’t pick up, leave a message. And before I forget, keep sending me pictures of yourself!’, Erza chuckled as he kissed her forehead lovingly.
‘I will, my love. Only if you promise to send me pictures of yourself, maybe a little sexy if you have a chance’, he whispered the last part slowly sending shivers down her spine.
She snorted mischievously and shook her head.
‘I love you’, she declared sincerely.
‘I love you too. Take care of yourself.’ He took her face in his hands, cherishing the feel of her skin against his, and pulling her in for a final kiss. Long and imbued of love they harboured for each other.

The Rewrite of Fairy Tail: Part 32 (Meredy)
What else can I do with Meredy?
Here's another question: why is this part of the series? Why isn't this a bonus section? Why not just hold off on talking about Meredy until I talk about the rest of Crime Sorciere? (read: Oracion Seis minus one)
It's not as if Meredy is so important to the series that I need to give as much attention to her as I have Ultear or Jellal. It's also not like I plan to make too many changes to Meredy. For the most part, I plan to keep Meredy as we got her in canon.
However, I feel as though Meredy, similar to Lisanna, serves as a great example of what I can and can't do with a character in the rewrite. With Lisanna, the issue was how I can handle a character who people argue had little reason to exist in canon. Lisanna's a character that doesn't have as much love from fandom as other similar characters. I've already made the argument that she deserves to stay in the series and explained ways she can be used.
Most people recognize that Meredy isn't and was never going to be as relevant as either of the other original Crime Sorciere members. I've yet to see someone unironically argue that we didn't get enough Meredy in Fairy Tail. However, if I'm going to add stuff to Fairy Tail, it's not as if I can't do more things with Crime Sorciere or Meredy individually. There are enough gaps of time to fill within what I'm working with that it's within the realm of possibility for me.
But, where should I draw the line? After all, I'm not allowing myself to write in new major moments or arcs. I have to work within what exists within the series. Consider that I don't have much to work with Meredy. I feel that this serves as a perfect case study for me in this regard.
Let's start with who Meredy is in canon.
Meredy was a survivor of Crime Sorciere attacking where she came from. She was effectively adopted by Ultear, despite her being responsible for the destruction. They grow especially close over the years.
As you may expect, Meredy feels indebted to Ultear. The thing is, Meredy takes it to an extreme. She sees her own life as irrelevant.
Looking back, it's kind of hilarious that her opponent was Juvia on Tenrou Island. Juvia also had someone she highly valued. She was also willing to fight for them.
The difference is that Juvia still valued her own life. Juvia wasn't willing to throw her life away for Gray. (*Restrains specific urges for 29 more days*) So, when she sees Meredy willing to throw her life away, she easily sympathizes. Juvia is the one who helps Meredy recognize that her life has value.
We see the effects of this throughout the series. The arc ends with her stopping Ultear from killing herself. When we see her seven years later before the Grand Magic Games, she's much more emotional than she used to be. I don't mean that in a sense of mood swings. I mean, she's more like a person and less like a robot.
And then, we get to the Alvarez Empire arc. Here we get some of her coolest moments in the series. Meredy finally gets her team-up with Juvia during the battle against the Historias of Zancrow and Keyes. And at the end of the arc, her magic is what ultimately helps Lucy's side of the Acnologia fight win out in the end.
Oh, yeah. Sensory Link.
What does it say that Mashima thought to give someone who wasn't emotional the power to link people's emotions together? It wasn't just a matter of emotions, but also the pain receptors. (Weirdly enough, Kiznaiver would do something like this the same year I got into Fairy Tail.) Meredy's empathy powers ultimately played a large part in her initial defeat. Juvia was quite literally able to reach Meredy on an emotional level because they were linked together with her power.
It turns out that Sensory Link's true power wasn't making people feel pain or emotions. By linking people together with Sensory Link, their magic power is combined. First, Meredy and Juvia use this to beat the Historia ghosts. And, at the end of the series, Meredy uses it to bind everyone on the continent together to make Fairy Sphere work.
It's worth remembering what a big theme of Fairy Tail is: the bonds between people. I know that we all joke about the power of friendship.  However, both sides fighting Acnologia are using their bonds to beat him in different ways. I think this way is the more sensible of the two. (Natsu uses the power of seven dragons to beat a man who unceremoniously killed someone using the power of eight.)
So, what do I want to do with Meredy that didn't happen in canon?
You have to consider a couple of things. First off, I can't shove Meredy or the rest of Crime Sorciere into situations that they weren't already in. Even if I wanted to, what would I do? Crime Sorciere visits Fairy Tail during the time-skip? Jellal helps with the Eclipse Project? (I already talked about Meredy as a potential part of the Avatar arc.)
Second, it would be wrong of me to make Meredy into a character whose importance is much higher than she was in canon. I'm not going to make Meredy beat Mard Geer or solo a dragon. No one would seriously argue that Meredy could have ever done those things reasonably.
However, there is one rather important thing that I can add with Meredy that she didn't do in canon. I want her to be the reason that Juvia wants to confess to Gray. After all, they do meet before the Grand Magic Games starts. Why not have her inspire her to share her feelings for Gray? (I say this as if I've shared positive prospects for my handling of Gruvia.) I think that addition works for her character and relationship with Juvia.
Is that a big change in the long run? Certainly not, especially compared to many of the other things I’ve talked about throughout this series. However, I’m not trying to make large drastic sweeping changes to the series. I want to keep as much the same about Fairy Tail as possible. However, if I can add something that I think will make sense of the series, it wouldn’t hurt me to do it.

I made a few posts in the past about how I liked (and kind of almost expected) Juvia being Mercuphobia’s daughter, and then I mixed Jellal into the family, and as much as I loved the idea I never really gave it much thought. But the idea was brought up in the gruvia server I’m in, and lo and behold, in the span of about 2 hours, we almost have a complete story for these three. So big big shoutout to @i-write-fanfics-to-procrastinate and @juvi-of-the-great-sea (and a few others) who gave me amazing feedback and ideas, and I definitely borrowed some of theirs 💙 So here’s the story:
- Mercuphobia fell in love with one of his worshippers, who eventually became pregnant (yes, they’re twins!) but because she was only a worshipper, and he was seen as a god, she thought it would be best if she left the town before anyone found out she was expecting.
- So, she moved in with her brother and gave birth. Unfortunately Juvia was born, or more like cursed, with an abundant amount of magic power, which she inherited from her father, and because of this, the skies always threatened to rain ever since she was born.
- As they were growing up, Jellal continued to tell Juvia that he would learn Heavenly Body Magic so she could see the clear night sky.
- One day, their mother left Juvia to stay with her uncle as she took Jellal out for a ride, where they stopped at a village full of recruiters for the Tower of Heaven. Jellal was taken, and their mother was killed.
- Believing that both of them were killed, Juvia’s rain increased to downpours and after a week the village she and her uncle inhabited was threatened by floods, all the while Juvia could not stop crying. Fed up with the crying, complaints from neighbors about the floods, and the fact that he was in no position to raise a child by himself, Juvia’s uncle attacked her, rendering her unconscious. Once he calmed down, he turned himself in, the guilt plaguing him that he attacked Juvia — the most important recollection his sister left him. Juvia woke up in an orphanage, told that her uncle was put in a facility, with no memories of her mother or brother.
- After the fight against the White Mage ended and his powers were returned, Mercuphobia decided to visit Fairy Tail to say thank you. However, after he gets there, Diabolos ambushes the guild. Juvia and Jellal just happen to be nearby when he’s almost attacked, and they protect him.
- Mercuphobia prepares to thank them, but when he sees them together, Jellal’s tattoo, and Juvia’s water magic, he stops right in his tracks and the gears start turning. He begins to tear up, muttering that they remind him so much of “her”. The two ask him what’s wrong, and he explains.
- Once the fight ended and Diabolos was defeated for good, Fairy Tail did what they did best: partying. Mercuphobia was the guest of honor, and while everyone was sober, Juvia and Jellal decided to tell the guild the whole story.
- Gray and Erza were possibly the most shocked, and somewhat worried that they wouldn’t get to spend time with either of them while they figured things out, although they’d never admit it (especially Erza, since she was new to the whole ‘jealousy’ thing)
- Jellal and Juvia didn’t really know how to interact with one another for the first few days, after all they had never done much interacting before, but occasionally they would say the same thing at the same time and look at each other like 😮
- One of the first things Juvia told Jellal was that she was now “obliged” to help Jellal and Erza get together, and he couldn’t say no.
- They tried going to restaurants together, whenever their guilds would allow, to catch up and share mementos that Juvia’s uncle and Merc sent them. Sometimes Gray and Erza tag along, and no, totally not because they miss them, only because they wanted to make sure they were getting along, of course, obviously. Not that Juvia minds though, because it’s essentially a double date, and it’s funny seeing Jellal and Erza scared to sit next to one another.
- One thing they had in common was that they both were introduced to Fairy Tail as enemies, and so they share with each other their regrets, but also advice on how they’re moving forward.
- Jellal became protective of Juvia fairly quickly, and now him, Gray, and Gajeel are the basis of the unofficial “Juvia Protection Squad.” Erza and Natsu are members too, of course.
- One time Juvia was making dinner when she cut her finger on the knife, it wasn’t bad but the shock caused her to curse and gasp in pain, the next thing she knew Jellal and Gray had busted down the door to see if she was alright.
- Juvia can also be protective though; she’s told the other members of Crime Sorcière (namely Erik and Sawyer) to stop giving Jellal a hard time a few times before.
- Then there was that time when Fairy Tail and Crime Sorcière joined forces, Jellal got hurt, and Juvia was almost as scary as she was on Tenrou Island. The other members of Crime Sorcière (and even some of Fairy Tail) knew not to mess with her after that, especially when it came to Jellal.
- Speaking of Crime Sorcière, Meredy was overjoyed at the news and she tried desperately to make them wear ‘sibling best friend bracelets’, which was the one thing Jellal would not do.
- The only downside to this new sibling relationship was dating. Jellal has followed Gray and Juvia a few times, telling Gray “if you hurt my sister I won’t hesitate.” Juvia gets somewhat annoyed but it’s not like she hasn’t followed Erza and Jellal, although for the exact opposite reason which would be to cheer them on.
- And yes, of course they tease each other. Jellal often rests his elbow on her head and tells her how short she is.
Gosh these were so fun to make! I got so into this 😂 I hope I’ll come up with more in the future, as well as a trio name that’s catchier than Mercuphobia, Juvia, and Jellal sooo suggestions are welcome!

HEADCANON: MEREDY & JELLAL.
the following headcanons apply to the highly developed relationship between my meredy and @sinshckled’s jellal.
i. ULTEAR’S GRAVE. since ultear’s passing, there was clear grievance shared between the two. as their struggles continued, they hardly had the opportunity to even mourn properly. after times settled down, jellal and meredy built a special and personal memorial / ‘grave’ for ultear, just near the ocean. the entity of ultear’s mother essentially became one with the ocean, so they believed it was only fitting for her to be spiritually laid to ‘rest’ near her side. jellal and meredy often visit the grave site, leaving flowers and other sentiments during their travels. ( note: this obviously involves verses where ultear is known to be dead by meredy and jellal. )
ii. STARS. meredy became wildly fascinated with the stars growing up with jellal. it wasn’t unusual for her to wake him at the peak of night to show him a star formation or meteor shower. although she assumed it probably wasn’t something he’s never seen before, she couldn’t contain her excitement and would always want to share it with him. jellal taught her a lot about the constellations and how certain stars mapped the sky. he showed her where the north star was and encouraged her to follow it if she ever became lost someday. this was probably the first things that allowed them to grow closer.
iii. SYMPATHY. it’s absolutely understandable that meredy carried some extremely hard feelings toward ultear. she felt trapped within herself, caging in all those resentful and angry emotions. but jellal was someone she finally felt comfortable enough to open up to about it. and jellal did the same for her. neither of them blame the other for the actions they committed under ultear’s thumb. meredy would sometimes feel shameful, that she might even find herself hating ultear, despite another part of her still loving her for the woman she hoped she was and still could be. jellal does not judge nor criticize meredy for any of these feelings and finds them completely valid. together, they are just a pair of incredibly supportive friends who accepts that their worst actions and worst feelings don’t define who the other is.
iv. TRUST & FEELINGS. jellal obviously had a rough time adapting to life after his prison break. he was coming to terms with everything he’s ever done in his past, thinking heavily on all the people he’s hurt, and terrible things he was lead to do. that guilt often overwhelmed him because despite the fact that ultear was the one who twisted his mind to become that person, he still believes he was the true one at fault and that there might still be a part of him capable of doing horrible things again. one night, jellal was feeling mentally low and distressed. he had parted a bit from camp, sat in the shadows, and self harmed himself. meredy, still being a young girl, discovered him. any other child probably would’ve been mortified, shameful, confused, and scared, but she reacted differently. she simply walked up to him, sat by his side, and held his hand. not only did she understand how those actions stemmed, but she offered silence comfort and support. she refused to leave his side and wanted to do everything she could to let him know that he wasn’t alone. so she then shared a sensory link with him, hoping he could find ease with their emotional connection. she also attempted to sway the bad feelings away with her magic, by imposing any happy moment they shared into his heart. he was rather surprised by this. surprised that such a young girl was emotionally mature beyond her years and didn’t shun him with disgust for committing such lowly actions on himself. since then, he stopped doing so. for her and for himself.
v. MUTUAL HEALING. following tenrou and learning the truth of ultear’s deception, meredy dwells in ambiguous loss and suppressed resentment. she felt isolated around ultear, unable to open up to her and continue to live with her as she used to. when jellal eventually came into her life, she was very wary about him. she slowly became to learn his story and about ultear’s manipulation. in a way–––she realized that jellal might be someone who could truly sympathize with her, as she too was manipulated by ultear. jellal was very closed off with meredy at first, uneasy about the idea of being around a stranger and his former manipulator. but eventually, jellal came to spark something new in meredy, that she once thought was long gone. she felt like a child again. she begin to feel small weights lift off her chest while establishing a bond with jellal. they would talk casually about little things, mostly related to travel or what they planned to do that day. it was simplistic, therapeutic and rather domestic even. she felt an unusual sense of normality around him, like she could be open and embrace her more childish, wholesome nature without worry of being reprimanded or demeaned, like she would’ve been in grimoire heart. essentially, meredy got a taste of what it was like to be a child, a young girl who could simply act like a girl and not a warrior. such an awakening lead to meredy becoming more lighthearted and warm to others. she would feel at ease around jellal, even becoming comfortable enough to tease him. her newfound friendship with jellal with simply healthy and made her realize that it was possible to meet people who can effortlessly enjoy you for who you are, without any ulterior motives. meredy too was able to allow jellal to feel more at ease with himself. neither of them could’ve truly survived with ultear on their own, but when they had each other, they felt that it was possible to find family in the darkest of times. and they found it with one other.

MY BEST FRIEND'S SISTER
PART-III
Soon after one date, Gray and Juvia hitted off quickly. Both of them were intrigued by one another's personality and individuality that they realized, they complemented each other so well.
As expected Juvia joined Gray's class and was under constant observation of her brother.
Because of which they had to maintain their relationship as a secret.
To the outside world, they were just a normal acquaintance but only they knew the bond between is that of lovers.
This secret relationship continued for 5 months on a guilty basis. Gray, at times felt guilty that he was dating his best friend's sister while Juvia felt bad that she was dating her brother's best friend without his knowledge.
But soon they would forget their guilt whenever they see and fall in each other's arms.
They convinced themselves that they were in love with an individual who happens to associated with a common man, Natsu.
Their love for one another grew stronger as the days passed by. But their friends and more importantly Natsu, found their behaviour suspicious.
Erza and Lucy did once confront Gray about this but he just brushed it off casually.
But Natsu never questioned him on this matter which showed he believed his friend and his sister.
So both Gray and Juvia decided the coming weekend, they would tell Natsu about their relationship and if he doesn't permit, they would convince him until he agrees and permit them.
As Gray heard his door bell sound, he came out from his room to attend it.
When he opened the door, he was taken by surprise as his girlfriend was standing right front of him with a bright smile which he really loved it.
"Wow, what a pleasant surprise? I didn't expect you here. Come in." He happily greeted her and moved aside so that she can enter his apartment.
As Juvia came in she realized her handsome boy was standing showing his bare chest.
This was the first time she saw him semi-naked and blushed hardly.
"Gray, cover your upper body." She said to him while closing her eyes.
Seeing her reaction, Gray smirked and closed the doors so that others don't interrupt their moment.
"Juvia, don't close your eyes. You should get used to this baby. Now open your eyes." Gray came close and cupped her cheeks.
Once Juvia opened her eyes, she met his smiling face. She was still embarrassed, "Juvia, do you like what you see?" He smirked.
Steams were literally coming out of her eyes, she playfully smacked his chest.
"Gray, stop teasing me. Of course, Juvia loves her boyfriend."
Juvia wrapped her arms around his torso whil Gray pulled her closer by snaking his arms around her waist.
"Even I love you, baby. So what brings you here?"
"Simply Juvia thought, she will pay her Gray a surprise visit to see his reaction."
"Well...well...I'm surprised indeed. So what's there in that bag which you are holding from that time?"
Gray now became curious and asked her as that bag was poking his back.
Juvia broke the hug and gave him the paper bag. "Go ahead. Hope Gray likes it."
When Gray opened the bag, he saw a black woollen muffler. He took it out, "Hey did you knit it on your own? It looks adorable and fashionable."
Juvia smiled and nodded her head, "It's for my Gray. Soon weather is going to get even more cold, so it's a small gift from Juvia. And thank you for the necklace which Gray gave her."
The other day, when Gray visited Juvia on the pretense of meeting Natsu but their mom directly saw through Gray's plan and teased him.
"Well Gray, I guess Natsu is not here. Go inside Juvia will be happy to see you. Don't go sprouting some excuses to me.
I know about you guys, Juvia never hides anything from me. Go ahead lover boy, hope you keep my little princess happy."
Juvia's mom teased him making him go red from top to bottom.
Once he entered the living room, Gray saw Juvia coming downstairs and ran upto him to give a bear hug which he responded back.
After spending some quality time he gave the necklace which he bought for her.
"Why did Gray do through the trouble of getting Juvia this necklace?" She examined the butterfly shaped pendant attached to the silver chain.
"Just to see your smile, baby. It's just the starters, you will see much more of such things. I'm going to spoil my girlfriend with many more things and love. I love you." Gray then wore the necklace around her neck.
Back to the present time, "So Juvia was already planning to give Gray something. She decided a muffler would be a better choice. So Juvia knitted one for you. Does Gray like it?" She asked in hesitation.
Gray wore the muffler around his neck and hugged her. "I love it, baby. Thank you for taking your time to make this gift wholeheartedly. I will wear it everyday from now."
Next day
Gray wore his girlfriend's gift proudly to school. When he entered the class, his friends greeted him and saw his muffler.
"Wow Gray, that's a nice muffler. You got there. Where did you buy one?" Jellal inquired him.
Gray smugly flaunted his muffler and sat on this desk. "It's a gift from my most important person."
"Most important person" They said in unison.
"Don't tell us you got a girlfriend behind our back, you idiot." Erza added.
Just then Natsu and Juvia enters the class, Lucy instantly greets them, followed by others. Natsu hugged and kissed her cheeks.
Juvia softly smiled at them as she went past Gray to sit behind him. She whispered slowly, "Good Morning, Gray" and brushed her hand against his left hand.
When Natsu's turned his attention towards others, he noticed the muffler on Gray's neck.
"It looks like the one which Juvia was knitting for a long time. But I can't come to conclusions without confirming this." Natsu thought to himself.
"Yo Ice-princess, when did you get this muffler?" He asked him making both Gray and Juvia to fidget internally.
"He got that from his most important person." Lucy told her boyfriend.
"Yeah, she's right. I just got that yesterday." Gray said without making an eye contact with his friend.
"Ohh that's okay." Natsu found it suspicious as Gray never backs off from the insult but for the past few months, he didn't call him flame-breath nor any tactless talks against him.
Erza also noticed this change in behavior so she directly asked him, "Gray, are you hiding something from us? You have being like a different person now as compared to few months back."
Gray waved his hands, "Nah!! What makes you say something like that? I am in my usual self, I guess."
Throughout the day, Gray never removed his muffler and wore it happily.
During the lunch break, one of the freshman year girl came upto him to confess her feeling.
But Gray sent her away saying he is committed which made the girl heartbroken.
After school, Gray met Juvia in their usual meeting place.
"Hi baby, what took you this long to come?" Gray stood up from the bench.
"Sorry Gray, it took few minutes to convince onii-chan that Juvia was going to Meredy-chan's place.
He didn't believe her but Lucy-san smacked and lectured him to give some privacy to Juvia." She sighed in relief.
"Don't worry, we will tell him and others about us tomorrow, for now, come let's enjoy this evening in peace."
Gray put his arm around Juvia's shoulder and led her to a nearby restaurant for their small date.
After strolling around the market square, doing some window shopping and playing some games at the arcade, they reached the cafe.
Juvia latched her arms around Gray's arm and entered the restaurant.
After finding an empty space, they made themselves comfortable and ordered their food.
When their food was served, they fed each other happily without realizing the audience were watching their cute interaction.
"Aww such a cute couple. My dear husband, learn something from that boy.."
A lady taunted her husband that's when both of them realized and blushed wildly.
After eating their food, Gray told her about his childhood stories how he and her brother were along with Erza who was till now bossing around them.
Juvia happily listened to her boyfriend's tales then suddenly Gray become clingy.
He caught hold of Juvia's hands softly squeezed them.
"What is Gray doing? It's making Juvia feel shy." She said with a blush.
Gray winked and gave her a flying kiss making her blush even harder.
"Juvia for how many months are we dating?"
"Juvia thinks for 5 months. Why? What happened, Gray?" Juvia asked in confusion.
Gray blushed, "Then can we level up our relationship? You know we still didn't share our first kiss. If you don't want, then we dont have to do it." He finally told her.
Juvia grew red and slowly nodded her head indicating her approval.
Suddenly someone voice interrupted their sweet moment,
"So for 5 months, you guys have been dating behind my back?"
Both Gray and Juvia looked up to meet the owner of the voice and their eyes widened in shock.
"NATSU.....LUCY..."
"ONII-CHAN.........LUCY-SAN...."
"Gray, we knew something was wrong!!" Lucy scoffed at them.
Natsu gave them an expression which they couldn't read what was going on his mind.
"So the muffler you are wearing was given by my sister right?" Natsu asked Gray.
"Yes"
"The silver chain which you are wearing was given by him, right Juvia?"
"Yes Onii-chan. Please..." Juvia pleaded him to not get angry.
"Hey Natsu, listen even before I knew Juvia who she was, I grew crush on. Seriously Man, I couldn't control my feelings for her and asked her out. I really love her, Natsu even she does the same." Gray said.
Natsu saw how Gray was still holding his sister's hand. Natsu turned his head to Juvia and told her to move in so that they sit and sort the issue.
"Onii-chan, Juvia is sorry. She really loves Gray. She doesn't care whether he is your bestfriend but for me he is someone who makes Juvia feel safe besides you and mom.
Even Juvia had crush on him ever since she saw in on the road. And in these 5 months, Gray has been a pure gentleman." She began to cry.
Lucy who sat opposite to the siblings consoled her, "Hey Juvia, don't cry your brother know you both very well. He will agree to this."
" Why didn't you tell me that you both were dating for each other these many days?" Natsu asked in a sad tone.
"That's because you are an over-protective brother. I saw that day itself how you react when I found out you had a sister.
We were scared that you might not allow this to happen. Anyways, we were planning to disclose this matter to you tomorrow but you found out today itself.
See Natsu, this is the first time I have ever had such intimate relationships with any girl, you also know that.
I really love your sister, man. I promise to keep her happy and always smiling. Please trust me." Gray tried to assure his friend.
Lucy squeezed Natsu's hand, "Dear, you must see the love Gray has for and Juvia has for Gray. They both love each other dearly, just let them be like that. Don't put any restrictions on them or separate them."
Natsu after thinking for some time, he sighs heavily, "Seriously Ice-princess, Juvia has changed you a lot. You guys, could have told me this from the beginning itself instead of hiding and creating such drama.
Who said I won't permit you guys from loving each other? It's your personal opinion and moreover, my sister fell in love with someone whom I know in and out. Go ahead, continue your love story." Natsu grinned.
Both Juvia and Gray couldn't control their happiness and Juvia hugged her brother thanking him for being such broad minded person.
"Thanks Natsu for allowing me to date your sister. Seriously Man, from day one, we had a bit of guilt but now, we are free from that. Thank you, Natsu." Gray smiled genuinely.
"Well Ice-princess, you do have some rules and regulations to be followed. Basically, you should not touch, hug, kiss and do any inappropriate stuffs with her and...."
Before Natsu could finish, Lucy smacked his head and made him stop.
"I said don't interfere in their love story. Come let's all go home together or are you guys planning something?"
"Nah!! Anyways we were gonna leave. Come let's go." Gray and Juvia got up and followed the other couple to outside.
As they kept walking behind them, talking and whispering sweet talks in Juvia's ears making her blush and earning him some playful smacks on his arms.
For once Juvia decided to be bold, her question made Natsu stop on his track.
"Onii-chan, can I stay with Gray tonight?"
Her request made Gray blush leading him to his fantasy world, Natsu wore a scandalous look while Lucy giggled.
"See you pervert, you made my sister one too." Natsu comically yelled at his friend and stormed backward to get his sister's hand away from him.
"No, you are not going anywhere. Come home with me or else, you will be grounded." Natsu pulled Juvia's wrist.
Both Lucy and Gray were laughing seeing Natsu's expression.
"Hey bro, let her be. I promise, I won't cross the boundary line for now." Gray tried to assure him.
But Natsu was adamant and never let Juvia out of his hold. She pouted, "Fine, Juvia will come home. Now leave her."
Natsu trusted his sister's words and let go of her only to be see her hugging Gray's arm.
"Really Gray, if you make her cry. I will make you eat dirts. Got it." Natsu warned him.
"Don't worry, I will never make my baby cry. I intend to keep her smiling and happy. I love her very much to simply hurt her."
Gray has he placed his arm on her lower back pulling her towards him closer.
Both Natsu and Lucy smiled.

graredy + hyperbole
This ended up… much longer than I originally intended.  I have too many feelings for this pairing, probably.  So it’s under a read-more.
Obliviousness Is A Crime
AO3
FFN
Summary: Observing Gray has been a long-time pastime of Meredy, a natural extension of being around Ultear and Juvia.  Or so she keeps telling herself.
Over the past seven years, Meredy had grown up hearing stories from Ultear and Jellal that she had initially assumed – even at her most impressionable – to be mostly hyperbole. It was clear that Ultear and Jellal had some bias when it came to talking about the people they’d more or less relentlessly stalked for ten years.  Their twin obsessions really made them the perfect pair, Meredy could only conclude.  It was inevitable that they had come to work together twice in their lives.
But despite her best efforts to maintain objectivity when it came to the stories about Erza and Gray they imparted to her, it was difficult to tell fact from embellishment.  Somehow she doubted that Erza basically ate mountains and demons for breakfast, or that Gray was naked in perpetuity.  Though she wasn’t quite as sure about the amount of cake that Erza could consume (having never witnessed it herself), and that Gray had tried to fight a demon of Zeref…twice (Meredy was coming to believe that it was a requirement of Fairy Tail to be at least that level of crazy).
So she held onto Jellal and Ultear’s words all the same; they loved telling her stories, and Meredy loved listening to them.  Especially ones about Gray, truth be told.  Meredy loved Juvia, and Juvia loved Gray, so it seemed obvious to her that she learn all she could about the man.
It wasn’t until much, much later, that Meredy realized that although Jellal may have exaggerated a good deal about Erza (except in regards to the cake), Ultear had perhaps underscored a number of Gray’s more ridiculous qualities.  Meredy’s friendship with Juvia afforded her a front-row view of the man and his behavior.  Gray really did exist in a state of near-permanent nakedness, it turned out. And he really was reckless to a fault, though he hid it beneath a façade of calm.
It was easy to see his good points, thanks to Juvia.  But Meredy couldn’t help but notice that the man had a great many bad habits too. Like his too-eager willingness to egg Natsu onto greater acts of destruction, or how he tended to bottle up his more unpleasant emotions when it was clearly hurting him to do so.  He also tried to shoulder too much and would refuse to either ask for help or clearly explain to others what his intentions were, which led to all sorts of miscommunications.
Meredy wasn’t certain that Juvia saw quite as much as she did of Gray’s more unpleasant sides. Juvia worshipped the ground Gray walked upon.  And although Meredy understood the deep gratitude that Juvia carried for Gray saving her (as she felt it herself for Juvia and to a less extent to Gray for saving her own savior), it felt… Meredy didn’t really know how she felt about it, honestly.  It was complicated, and she didn’t have the words.  It just unsettled something inside of her.
She continued to watch Gray even then, though.  He meant something to Ultear and Juvia, the two most important people in her life, after all.  Also, she felt she owed him a little, having once been dead-set on his murder.  Which honestly made any attempted conversation with the man incredibly awkward.  Not only had he been an object of fixation for Ultear for so many years (good and bad), he was also the center of Juvia’s world as well, and those thoughts always hung in the forefront of her mind in every interaction.
As astute as she was in observing Gray, however, she probably should have noticed a lot sooner than she did that he had been seeking her out a lot more often as of late.  At first, she brushed it off as politeness, since she was always with Juvia during these times.  It would have been rude of him to only talk to Juvia, after all. And although Gray was dense and often accidentally rude, he was never maliciously or intentionally so.
Meredy eventually noticed that the times he talked to her when she visited increased whenever Juvia wasn’t there (either distracted by something else in the guild, or out on a job). To the point where those conversations outnumbered the ones they had in Juvia’s company.  Again, Meredy brushed those off.  Clearly Gray just wanted to talk about Juvia, or feel out a gift or the like without Juvia catching on.  Meredy could play along with that.  So, as the good friend she was, she would steer the conversation back to Juvia.
There was one memorable occasion when Gray’s team visited Crime Sorciere.  Juvia wasn’t with them, surprisingly.  Which was mildly disappointing for Meredy, but she liked Gray’s team well enough.  Although she wanted to talk to Gray (ostensibly about Juvia’s marked absence), she found herself confounded a little by Sorano, who demanded Gray’s attention.  Although Meredy adored Sorano, this was more than a bit frustrating.
Just when she was about to give up on talking to the man entirely, Lucy suddenly insinuated herself between the pair, linking her arm with Sorano and steering her away from Gray.  Meredy stared in shock after the blonde, as she threw Meredy a playful wink and a little wave over her shoulder.
Lucy was a nice person, Meredy realized.  Although she’d known it intellectually, it was something else to have it directed her way. A very, very nice person.
With Sorano thankfully distracted, Meredy took the opportunity provided to her by Lucy, and she approached Gray.  He smiled at her when he saw her, and Meredy’s heart stuttered slightly at the sight.
Confusion and embarrassment flooded her, and to calm her rising panic, she commented on the nice weather they were having.
Stupid, stupid, she chided herself.
But it was a topic Gray was surprisingly responsive to, it turned out.  And after a couple of minutes, Meredy had mostly forgotten her strange reaction to Gray’s smile.  She chalked it up to rarely seeing it.  Anyone would be affected by something they don’t often see.
It was only much later, after the group from Fairy Tail had departed (with only minor damage to the landscape thanks to Erik and Natsu) that Meredy realized that she had completely forgotten to ask about Juvia.  And yet… she’d still held a conversation with Gray easily.  In fact, they’d arranged to talk more on a later day.
Maybe he considered her his friend, and not just Juvia’s?  The thought made her flush with happiness.
That would be very nice, indeed.
“You are so freaking oblivious,” Erik muttered to her then.  “It would be hilarious if it wasn’t so sad.”
“I’m… not sure what you’re talking about?” Meredy replied, her head tilted slightly.  “Oh, you mean how long it took me to realize that Gray and I are friends?”  Red crept through her cheeks.  “Yeah, I’ll give you that one.”
“That level of obliviousness should be a crime,” he informed her before shaking his head and walking away from his perplexed guildmate.
“Congratulations,” Lucy told her teammate, nudging him withher elbow.  “You got a date out of her!”
Gray hung his head and sighed.  “I don’t think she actually realized that I was asking her out, though.”
“Oh come on, surely no one can be that dense,” the blonde attempted to reassure him with a pat on his shoulder.  “You’re just exaggerating because you’re nervous!”
Somehow, Gray sincerely doubted that.
It must have shown on his face, because Lucy shrugged and informed him, “Doesn’t really matter either way.  You get to spend time with her alone, and with Juvia’s blessing at that.  Meredy will figure it out eventually.”  She paused for a second, and then added, “Probably.”
Hearing her name, the water mage sat down beside the pair.  “Juvia is sure that Meredy will understand in due time, Gray-sama.  She just needs a little time.  That’s why Juvia stayed at the camp today, after all.”
“I’m still surprised that you’re okay with all this,” Lucy observed.
A smile spread across Juvia’s face.  “Juvia may be oblivious about a lot of things, Juvia realizes.  But Juvia isn’t blind.  Juvia thinks Meredy has feelings for Gray, even if Meredy herself hasn’t realized yet.  Juvia loves Gray-sama, and Juvia loves Meredy… and Juvia will always prioritize her friends’ happiness over her own, so Juvia will do what she can for them to be happy together.”
Gray pretended not to see the soft way in which Lucy reached over and locked her fingers with Juvia’s at that – and the way Juvia’s fingers curled around the celestial mage’s.
Although it wasn’t ideal, Gray had to acknowledge his friends’ efforts, and he did manage to score at least a pseudo-date with Meredy, so maybe the day wasn’t entirely a bust.  With a little time and effort, maybe they’d finally be able to crack through Meredy’s denseness.  Even if it… caused a little personal suffering on Gray’s end of things.
Whoever once said that obliviousness was bliss had clearly never spent time with Fairy Tail.

The Festival of Love ~ Fairy Tail Fanfiction ~ With Time Travel! ~ Samurai Natsu! Barbarian Gray!
by Impracticaldemon | FFnet  | AO3 [Chapter 1 rated T] [Ch 2 will be M]
March 1 Prompt: Time Travel (Past) AU @fic-writer-appreciation
Author's Note: This story was intended to be a Valentine's Day gift for the lovely @nalufever. Actually, it still is! However, since it is very late, I have incorporated a wee touch of Saint Patrick's Day to go along with it.
Tumblr media
Warning: Shameless use of faux ancient brogue (probably faux Scottish, but definitely faux), and a weird combination of canon Magnolia, sixteenth century Japan, and faux Olde English. I have totally abused "ye", since it sounded better than plain old "you". Thou, thee, thy / thine are generally used correctly, but no promises. This story has its occasional serious moments, but should not be taken too seriously.

The Festival of Love, Part I - The Perils of Fairy Cakes
"So…" Lucy slid onto the bench next to Erza and rested her beer and elbows on the scarred wooden table. The tables were new—again—but they already looked like they'd seen several ugly bar-fights. Fairy Tail was like that.
Erza glanced up from her slice of cake in surprise. "Lucy? I thought you were off on a mission with the guys?"
Lucy frowned. "They were being even more difficult than usual, and after the third fight I told them to handle it on their own."
"Oh. I thought they were doing so much better these days, too." Erza sounded genuinely disappointed.
"Don't worry about it—really. I think all the pink hearts and glitter of our Valentine's Day party got to them, and now they feel the need to prove their, ah, macho-ness or something. Which brings me to my question—"
"The decorations were lovely," Erza murmured. Lucy shot her a suspicious look, but Erza had a dreamy expression on her face, and didn't seem to have interrupted on purpose. In the same kind of pensive tone, the red-head continued: "I thought that you looked very nice, Lucy. Also, Natsu was much better behaved than usual, which meant that Gray was as well. Or vice versa, perhaps…"
"Erza." Lucy took a gulp of beer and prepared to take the plunge. "Jellal's going to be pardoned any day now. Nobody's trying to lock him up any more. Why didn't he come to the party?"
Erza stiffened, and her cheeks gained a tinge of red.
"He was… busy. As well he might be, with everything that has happened. I completely understood, of course." She poked absently at her cake—a rare sight. "Besides, we are good friends who have overcome much adversity, but we are not… not… lovers." The red tint returned to Erza's face, but she continued with her usual resolve. "So there was no reason to attend such a party, really."
Lucy had to forcibly restrain herself from using Happy's line of "You liiiiiike him!" Instead, she chose her words with care, glad that she was only halfway through her beer.
"Well, we were sorry not to see him, of course. The guys are over any hard feelings, you know—if nothing else, they were seriously impressed with him for taming most of the Oracion Seis single-handed. So I was thinking that you might want to invite him—and anyone else from Crime Sorcière of course—to Fairy Tail's upcoming Lucky Shamrock Dance. Just as friends, of course." I can't believe Mirajane actually called it the Get Lucky Shamrock Dance, and I'm not going to share that information just now.
"We're having another party so soon? It's only been a week since Valentine's Day."
"Erza. You're my friend and I love you, but you really need to lighten up." When Fairy Tail's most dangerous sword-swinger tensed again, Lucy smiled reassuringly—or hoped she did. "Erza, don't worry about it, we all do. Need to relax, I mean. Hence the socials, or whatever weird name Mira's calling them these days."
There was a rather long pause, and then Erza took a deep breath and nodded firmly. "Yes, of course. And it is important for the members of Fairy Tail to be in the best possible condition for the challenges ahead." Whatever they may be, thought Lucy to herself. "Very well," continued her companion. "I will ensure that Jellal—and the other members of Crime Sorcière—are invited to the Lucky Shamrock Dance. I expect that he—or they—will attend, once I explain how important it is."
They'll attend if they know what's good for them, you mean. Lucy nodded gravely, but surreptitiously flashed a thumb's up to Mirajane at the bar. The white-haired woman glided over a moment later, as cheerful and friendly as ever.
"I saw you mangling your cake, Erza, so I brought you a fresh slice."
"I didn't mangle it."
All three women stared down at the sad remains of Erza's cake.
"Yup, you did," stated Lucy. For once, Erza accepted her conclusion without further protest.
Erza and Jellal arrived together at the Lucky Shamrock Dance. Erza had been on-hand to greet all of the members of Crime Sorcière when they first arrived in town, and she'd intended to make sure that they were happy with the accommodations she had chosen. However, Richard had smiled gently and left immediately for Fairy Tail, saying that he wanted to find out whether Jura had arrived, and Meredy had gone with him, though not before giving her blue-haired guildmaster an encouraging pat on the shoulder. There was a new sadness around her eyes, which Erza ascribed to Ultear's disappearance not so long ago, but for the most part she seemed as cheerful as usual.
Since Richard and Meredy were the only members of Crime Sorcière who had elected to come to the Fairy Tail party, their departure had left Erza alone to chat with Jellal. Social small-talk was never an easy thing for either of them. Their feelings for each other ran deep, and Jellal seemed hell-bent on accepting unrequited love as his probable fate, which angered Erza, since she returned his love, and therefore his supposed self-denial was as much a penance for her as for him. She had yet to find a suitable way to express that sentiment to Jellal, since part of her understood his need for penance and absolution.
Fortunately, Lucy and Juvia had also been aware of how awkward the pair's meetings could be. They had ensured that Erza was prepared with the finest in "Lucky Shamrock" attire, all of it green, glitzy, and sure to break the ice, whether through laughter or revulsion. It had worked, too. Erza had to give her friends points for that, and it didn't hurt that she secretly—or not so secretly—loved kitschy clothing.
More than a few people turned and stared when Jellal arrived in a sparkly green top-hat, form-fitting white trousers with sequinned green bell-bottoms, and a matching t-shirt that read "Who Needs Luck When Your Hands Are Pure Magic?" Coaxing him into the outfit had taken some doing, but Jellal was always gracious when it came to Fairy Tail—and Erza. Erza's glittering green leprechaun jacket and hip-hugging mermaid-style skirt were really quite normal in comparison. She liked the giant, shamrock-shaped hairpin thrust through the top of her sweeping red up-do, however.
The "not actually a couple" made their way through the laughing, chattering crowd in search of drinks. Drinks duly obtained, Erza immediately moved to acquire two of the delicately frosted cakes piled high on a table near the bar. She made sure that Jellal took a couple as well.
"Now we're all set," she murmured with satisfaction.
"Alcohol and dessert—a well-balanced meal if there ever was one," Jellal agreed gravely. The wary tension that was now second-nature to him was gradually fading. Being at Fairy Tail and around Fairy Tail mages always relaxed him—at least, it did on the rare occasions that he visited for reasons that didn't involve the imminent end of the world, or Life As We Know It.
"Absolutely. Now then…"
They both raised their glasses. The sign above the cakes proclaimed that a toast had to be made for every treat taken from the tray.
"To good luck." Erza touched her glass to Jellal's and drained half the contents.
"To good friends." Jellal smiled at Erza, the weariness in his eyes replaced with soft appreciation.
"To true love." Shocked by her own words, Erza hurriedly clinked Jellal's glass and drank down the rest of her improbably verdant beer. (1)
A moment later, the world spun around her, vanishing in a haze of grey fog and glittering stars.
"What the bloody hell?!" Not Jellal's voice—Natsu's?
"Ignarr' them, peat-fer-brains! Get thy demonic arse o'er here tae deal wi' th' bluidy arrows!" Gray?
There was a lot of yelling going on, and the distinct sound of sword striking sword with unfriendly intent. Erza struggled to sit upright, but somebody had their arms wrapped around her and seemed reluctant to let go.
"Don't move. We seem to have landed in the middle of a battle." Of course. It would take a battle for Jellal to hold me like this.
"So I see—and hear." Erza looked around cautiously. A partial—and rapidly melting—ice barrier rose nearby, and had probably saved them from being the unwilling recipients of the business-like, near-meter-long arrows they could see arcing overhead. In fact, it was clear that the extreme arc was being used to get around the ice.
"Whoevairr y'arr"—the speaker seemed unnaturally fond of his 'r's—"ye'd best dae somethin' tae protect yer lady. We're in a rright bit o' trouble heerre, ye ken?" He looked like a slightly shorter, leaner version of Gray, although he wore an eyepatch over his right eye. His visible eye was a stormy, dark indigo.
"Aye—I mean yes—I can see that," replied Jellal, cautiously sitting up and eyeing the knots of combat around them. Most of the men involved—and the one woman—were wielding katana, the curved-bladed, single-edged swords of the country's past. And every person but themselves—and Eyepatch-Gray—wore kimono and hakama, and the brightly-lacquered armour of the ancient samurai.
"No, we are not in trouble!" The young man who looked like Natsu ignored Jellal and responded directly to his comrade. "Don't be such a poltroon, thou northern seek-sorrow! And thou didn'st even thank me for takin' out ye bows!"
"Watch thy tongue, tha fiery bastarrd! Bows or no, they've got mair men, and the Stairm-bringair ain't one tae trifle with! Not tae mention his warr-witch!"
"Is that Laxus?" Erza interposed, gazing intently out over the battlefield. Samurai-Natsu's camp was situated on a low rise, backed by dense forest. The combatants—about twenty or twenty-five a side—were fanned out in a slight u-shape less than twenty meters away.
Erza was quickly (if regretfully), slitting her dress up to her hips and stripping off her high-heeled emerald slippers. The turf was definitely too soft for stilettos. Nobody seemed to notice—or care—that she'd grabbed a long knife from a nearby pile. She was having difficulty summoning her own weapons and armour.
"Who, now?" The pink-haired warrior gave her an odd look. "Surely ye know the name of that blond menace out there? And the she-devil, his war captain? Meaning no disrespect, milady."
Jellal cleared his throat. "They both look familiar, but we're strangers here."
"Oh. Well, don't know how you ended up in the middle of our camp, but I've got to get out there before Graeg yells at me again—even though he was the one to insist on coming back here to check on the prisoner. If ye want to help, feel free to borrow a sword, although"—the warrior paused, as if seeing Jellal properly for the first time—"ye don't exactly look arrayed for battle. Funny, I thought ye were when I first saw ye."
"We were dressed for a party, not a fight," Erza snapped, although there was often little difference between the two at Fairy Tail. "We'll be fine. Before you go—what's your name, and why are you and Storm-Bringer fighting?"
"Well, we have his other captain, ye see." Natsu's near-twin gestured at a hanging cage, from which a deceptively slender, green-haired man was surveying the battle, his expression sardonic rather than concerned. "I mean… it's the Love Festival this evening starting at sundown, right?"
Noting Erza's darkening expression at the obscure explanation, Jellal paused in buckling on a belt and scabbard. "And capturing Free—I mean that man—has to do with the Festival? I take it that the other side is trying to get him back before the sun sets?"
"Well, of course. Freed the Dark and Jana the Fair—though she'd be a whole lot fairer in my book if she wasn't so fond of torture—they're the Storm-Bringer's chosen companions, right? So obviously—"
"Whut, in the names o' ae the de'ils art thou doin' now, ya gorrrmless twist o' hot airrr?" Graeg was back and clearly irritated. His face might be familiar, but the leather bracers and body armour, and the massive, ice-edged broadsword were new. "Twas thy bacon-brrained idea that brrought us heerrrrre! Thou wanted tae 'test' the Staerrm-Brringair! Weel then! Gaet thysel' out therre an' test him, ya—"
"Coming, coming! Thou knowest what, Graeg? Thou should'st use thine ice to calm thy temper!" Their 'host' unsheathed his katana and swung it up onto one armoured shoulder, casually flicking the blade to set it on fire. He looked back at Jellal and Erza. "I'm called the Salamander, or Fire-Bringer, but if ye want to join our cause, then just Dragneel is fine. Good? Good!"
Salamander-Fire-Bringer-Just-Call-Me-Dragneel grinned at them, and then ran off toward a spot where the fighting was getting especially serious for the 'Capture-Freed' team. Graeg the Title-less eyed them suspiciously.
"Jest tae be clearrr"—Erza decided the extra 'r's got worse when Graeg was agitated—"if ye ain't on ourr side an' ye trrrrry tae pull anything, I'll drrrrive ice spikes intae yerr eyes."
"That's very clear," responded Jellal, face suddenly grim.
"Weeeell, a-rright then. Talk tae ye latairr, assumin' we're ae alive, eh?" With a last, measuring look, Graeg raced off after Dragneel.
"I'm all set," declared Erza. "But the question is, what should we do?"
"I'm really not sure." Jellal looked out at the approaching chaos of melee battle, which flashed with intermittent gouts of flame and arcs of lightning. "I don't think we know enough to pick a side without endangering possible innocents."
"There really aren't any innocents among us," called a cultured voice from the cage not far behind them. "But I don't recommend wasting your lives in a futile attempt to prevent Lord Dreyar from reaching me. Dragneel's a young fool, and the ice-maker is desperate to prove his worth, being a foreigner and all. I don't see why strangers such as yourselves should get involved."
"Is that so…" Jellal said softly. He walked closer to the cage and peered up. "Tell me, what about the Storm-Bringer's grandfather? Why isn't he resolving this problem?"
Thin green eye-brows arched in surprise over pale blue eyes.
"Lord Dreyar's grandfather is dead—he'd be eighty or ninety if he weren't—and my lord would never get His Royal Highness his father involved in a personal matter."
Erza was starting to get twitchy. As important as it was to learn the rights and wrongs of the situation, she found herself rather keen to challenge 'Jana the Fair'. Plus, Dragneel's embattled forces were starting to fall back toward them. In a few minutes, she and Jellal would be pitched into the battle no matter what. There were only modest, wooden fortifications in place, and nothing that would stand up to lightning. This was a field camp, no more, although it had clearly been set up ahead of time.
Fortunately, Erza thought that she could finally sense the magic of this place. It felt very raw to her, and difficult to control, but it was there. She hurried up to Jellal, and he gave her a knowing look, which she returned with a faint smile. To her surprise, he moved closer and gently squeezed her hand. It was odd, but… nice. With one glance and a touch, she knew that he was aware of what she was thinking.
"You're Freed the Dark?" Jellal turned his gaze back to the captive, keeping his face scrupulously neutral.
"Yes. And you and your lady?" The light eyes were keenly interested, and cold as graveyard marble.
"I'm Siegrain, and this is Lady Scarlet."
The caged man's eyes narrowed. "How odd. You are telling the truth, but saying very little. Most people aren't good at that—they like to talk about themselves, even when it's unwise."
"We all have our skills."
"Yes… I sense great power from both of you. Perhaps even enough to turn the tide for the hothead and his barbaric friend. Not that they're alone, of course, but they're the major players on the field today for their side. Right now it's not an even fight—they won't be able to hold me for another ten minutes, let alone the hour until sunset. I only gave my word to stay put until my lord reached this cage. You could change the outcome, perhaps."
Erza and Jellal exchanged looks. This version of Freed was distinctly different from their own. He spoke smoothly, and apparently honestly, but there was an undertone of malice to his words. It was as though he were evaluating them as interesting objects, not human beings. Siegrain had been rather similar; it was not a comfortable thought.
"What will happen to Na—Dragneel—and Graeg if they can't prevent Lord Dreyar from rescuing you?" Erza wasn't as smooth as Jellal, but she rarely felt the need to hide anything.
The chilly gaze seemed to sharpen for a moment, and then Freed's evil twin shrugged elegantly and looked down to brush a speck of dirt off his handsome, wine-red kimono. Both kimono and hakama were made of expensive cloth, judged Erza. Not surprisingly, the narrow scabbard—it wasn't made for a katana—was empty. She waited patiently for a verbal answer, despite her awareness of impending battle.
"Dragneel will be punished, but not killed, if that's what you're worried about. He's kin to the Dreyar family, and strangely well-liked for such an arrogant pup. He gets away with a great deal, though he's strayed far beyond the line this time out. As for Graeg, who knows? He's been a thorn in my lord's side for more than two years now, and is undoubtedly talented. He also has a knack for creative strategy, and I suspect that he was instrumental in my capture. The Salamander is extraordinarily strong, and quite intelligent, but impatient."
By the time he had finished, Freed was speaking to thin air. Moving with the sure understanding of those who have known each other, and fought together, since childhood, Erza and Jellal had already entered the fray at the pallisade.
[END of CHAPTER 1]
(1) Verdant, in this case, meaning not only green, but sprouting foliage (a four-leafed clover on long, slender stem). It was a little odd, but more ecologically sound than little paper umbrellas.

Somebody is Jealous (Jellal's edition)
Well, Jellal perceives himself as a very liberal and progressive person.
He wasn't a possessive person. No, not at all- Even in his relationship with Erza, he believed in giving ample space for growth and self-introspection to each other. He certainly didn't believe in getting jealous when one's partner gets some excessive attention from the opposite gender. Nope, not at all, he was a progressive person, wasn't he? He didn't want to smother her with suffocation. Jellal was aware of the fact that his woman was a strong person who didn't need anyone to save her. She was her own person and stood up for what she believed in. That's how he viewed relationships- a sweet added bonus to one's life, separate from a person's purpose in life.
Yet,
He felt horrified, as he realised, he was shamelessly contradicting his very own beliefs. His eyes twitched in mild irritation, well not exactly mild- only slight, that's how he soothed his not so jealous soul, as he watched the scene before him unfold.
His beloved was sitting comfortably on one of the chairs kept near the bar, eating her sweet dessert in contentment, oblivious to the lusty stares that eyed her glorious exposed thighs and cleavage. There were men hovering around her, drooling repugnantly.
Erza was a beautiful woman. It was an established fact. Not only did she win various beauty pageants, but she also attracted scores of men who simped after her and bolstered her as their 'waifu'!
Jellal was fucking replete with fury when he came to learn about this obnoxious verbiage. What a derogatory term! He opined. How dare they lust after Erza and claim her as their 'waifu'?! well, typically he was doing the same. But he was her partner and it's pretty healthy in a relationship to be intimately attracted to your partner! Yep, he reasoned with his conscience.
It was no secret that men secretly/openly lusted after females who were fairly popular. Given fairy tail's reputation, they were inglorious for being rambunctious all over the continent. This shouldn't come as a surprise to Jellal that Erza was kind of a national crush of Fiore. She even got disgusting offer letters from rich officials asking her to be their mistress. Every single person, be it a man or a woman, acknowledged her regal presence. Wherever they went, people were in awe of her. She was a beautiful woman, confident and sassy, along with a splendid personality. Who wouldn't be attracted to such an amazing person?
Analysing her fan following, he was sure of the fact that Erza must have dated some men in the past. However, He gasped in utter disbelief when he got to know that despite of the attention she received; she never laid her eyes on another man. They were reserved for him. Always.
He was her first man, the first man who held her hand, the first man who witnessed her vulnerable side, her first kiss, the one who took her virginity, the one she would like to start a family with and the only one who she would devote her heart to.
Forever.
That gave him a superior complex over all those degenerates who hated him for stealing their waifu.
Her devotion made him feel extremely fortunate, to get a woman who would choose him over everything else.
But that didn't mean that he couldn't get jealous.
'Oi chad, snap out from your murderous intent, will ya?'
'Laxus.'
'What happened? Why are you in such a bad mood?', Laxus raised his eyebrows in amusement. It was fun teasing Jellal especially when he was in a foul mood.
'Jelly-chan is jealous because other men in the party are eyeing Erza ravenously!', Meredy chimed in the scene, humming a tune under her breath almost nonchalantly.
Laxus let out a nasty cackle as he smashed his beer pint against the wooden table they currently occupied. Meredy joined in with her sniggers; annoying Jellal in his misery.
'Cheer up Jelly chan, if you brood so much, you will end up getting wrinkles quickly and look almost 20 years elder to Erza!'
'Stop calling me Jelly chan, Meredy!'
'Why? I think that name suits you a lot Jellal.'
Oh no.
The trio turned around to acknowledge the owner of this sardonic comment.
Erik approached the group with a wide smirk plastered on his face, much to Jellal's discontentment.
What a great timing. Now they will gang up to bully me.
'Say Jellal, want to murder those assholes? I could feel your malignity from the far end of the hall, reverberating louder than Gajeel's singing shit'
'I wouldn't go that far, they are just harmless flies'
Actually, he could.
'Then why are you getting so hot-headed over those harmless flies?', Meredy smiled knowingly.
'I am not.'
'oh boss! Stop lying with your pathetic ass!'
'I am not lying Erik!'
Erik scoffed at his reply. He didn't even try to hide it.
'Then what do you plan on doing chad boy? Just sit in a corner like a lost puppy and watch as those men eye your woman?', laxus joined in the conversation, adding oil to the fuming spark.
'I can't pause to throw a stone at every dog that barks. Plus, Erza is a strong woman. I shouldn't stick my nose where it isn't needed. I think she is capable of handling this herself.'
But actually, he was trying his best not to jump in the scene and take her away from those bastards but he didn't want to appear as a jealous freak who had no control over his irrational aspect.
'of course, she is Jellal', Meredy reasoned,' but a woman, no matter how strong she is, would love to be spoiled by her man and feel protected. That doesn't mean you are undermining her strength. It's called chivalry.'
'…'
'What about ramming some hot iron rods up in their assholes?', laxus had no chill at all.
'Laxus your speech is so vulgar', Jellal cringed.
'Not as vulgar as your mind, boss'
'Erik, listen up- '
'it's okay Jellal', Meredy patted his back sympathetically, 'You are always harsh on yourself. You don't have to berate yourself so much. Being jealous is a sign of affection after all.'
'Really?', he raised his eyebrows in suspicion.
'Well, when exercised in moderation. Don't become Juvia though.', Laxus grimaced in exasperation.
'I just-I can't handle those people who eye her like she is their personal property!'
'Oohoohoo, finally the lover boy is being honest!', laxus slapped his hand against jellal's back harshly.
Jellal ignored his remark and chose to focus upon what Erza was doing.
Erza, unfortunately, was already surrounded by random men drooling over her assets while he was busy merry making with his guild mates.
He was pissed. He was fucking pissed.
He clenched his fist in impuissance until his knuckles turned white. He let out a shaky breath, biting his lips, trying his best not to eradicate their existence by casting sema right at this moment
'Erza-sama, I know this beautiful villa by the country side that I can rent for you. Would you like to witness that scenic beauty? I can make the arrangement just for the two of us.'
'uh, no thank you. I am not interested, I am busy at the moment with my ongoing missions but I would certainly take-out time to visit this said place with my friends and my boyfriend', Erza exaggerated the last part to make this pathetic pervert clear of the fact that she wasn't interested in his offer.
'He doesn't need to know'
'When I said I won't go, I won't go. Please learn to respect a woman.'
She was already seething at this moment, ready to requip in her armour to beat the shit out of these perverts but she held herself back. This was an important party for her guild as many magic council officials appeared to discuss some important matters with master Makarov.
'Erza-sama!', another pervert chimed in, 'what about-!
'My honeyyyyyyyyyyyyyyy!'
Erza felt a shiver travelling down her spine even before she could react from the horror of hearing his voice. She didn't need to see who this abhorrent creature was. She didn't even acknowledge him as a person. Ichiya had already latched himself around her leg giving it a wild sniff, trespassing all boundaries of her private space.
This is it. This was her limit.
She was shaking wild. Her fingers were itching from wrath as she tried to remove him from her. These men latched themselves upon her despite being firmly rejected by her. She was being polite and considerate of her guild. That's the only reason she somehow tolerated their creepy remarks. She desperately searched for familiar eyes through the crowd that was bustling from the onset of vibrant ebullience. She grew impatient by every single moment when she failed in her search to find them. That's when she felt a presence behind her. The eyes she was searching for were already looking down from their vantage but not at her. She followed his eyes to find them glued on Ichiya.
Jellal got hold of Ichiya's hand and ruthlessly broke him apart from Erza's legs, not caring for a single second where his poor ass landed.
'Ichiya-san, that's a unique way of greeting someone. It could very well qualify as harassment you know', Jellal hissed menacingly, walking in front of Erza to make a defensive guard around her.
Jellal was a master at hiding his emotions and maintaining a stoic demeanour but Erza could still look beyond that very well.
He appeared perfectly placid but he wasn't.
His eyes bellowed bloodlust. He was growling with belligerence.
He was not going to let these repulsive hands touch the body that he revered so much.
The rest of the crowd started to disperse, succumbing to the impingement Jellal displayed, while laxus, Meredy and Erik watched the scene in awe. That's the impact Jellal's presence wielded.
There was a limit to which this man could tolerate bullshit after all. This was Jellal, who was fiercely protective of the woman he loved.
Erza snickered to herself smugly seeing the crowd become frail upon his arrival. These were some spineless cowards who weren't even half the man her Jellal was.
Jellal blissfully ignored the crowd that was whispering his name with resentment, something along the lines of 'their waifu'
He looked at Erza, taking in a deep breath of relief as he put his hands over her shoulders securely.
'Well gentlemen, I just remembered that my boyfriend and I have some work to do, if you will excuse us.' Erza stood up from her chair and bowed her head signalling her departure as she grabbed hold of jellal's hands, leading them across the hall through the exit door. Jellal looked at his guild mates who were giving him smug smiles and thumbs ups.
After exiting the guild, Jellal let out a sigh as they strode further away from that crowd. He still was shaking, his hysteria urging him to go back and beat the shit out of those bastards. He tore his thoughts away from the former events and looked sideways at the enchanting woman walking by his side.
'This dress really looks nice on you.'
'Thank you, sweetheart', Erza smiled and turned her face to give him a chaste peck on his cheeks. 'But I think I will opt for a less revealing outfit next time for a formal party like this'
'Why?'
'tch, didn't you see for yourself what happened today?'
'Don't fret about those assholes, just wear what you want', he snaked his arm around her waist protectively to pull her closer to him.
Jellal rarely cursed, that meant he was infuriated right now.
'Jellal', she whispered lovingly, taking his face in her hands, 'look at me'
He locked his gaze with her, facing her completely. His arms gently fondled her waist, pulling her entirely towards himself.
She leaned into him, melting like butter.
'I love you Jellal.' She brought his face towards hers until their foreheads were touching each other, 'Thank you for helping me back then. I was really helpless'.
They closed their eyes and sighed in synchronisation. She felt his arms locking her into a tight embrace, clutching the fabric of her dress.
'I just…..couldn't help myself when I saw them degrading you like that.' He felt the weight of her hands shifting down towards his neck, near his sensitive spot which only she knew about, caressing it to calm him down.
'Thank you love, but don't over-exert yourself over this issue, this isn't worth your time and effort', she looked at him tenderly. Jellal was such a worrywart but she loved him the same.
'yeah…you are right', he leaned into her, nuzzling his nose with hers, her sweet scent taming his raging heartbeat down, 'I love you too'
It's almost been a year since they started dating and obviously they never hesitated to show their love to each other- verbally, physically or emotionally, but Erza would never get tired of Jellal saying 'I love you' to her. She had dreamed about it so long, she yearned about it ever since she realised her feelings for him, she would never take his confessions for granted. It still had the same impact on her as the first time he poured his heart out to her.
Such was their affection for each other-always raging against the odds.
The hooting of the owls could be heard in the depth of the night. A sudden breeze struck her form as she shivered from the lack of her clothing, she had worn a simple flowy dress, not deemed to be fit in a chilly weather.
'it's getting cold Erza', Jellal pointed out as he draped his coated over her shoulders, 'let's go home'.
She hummed lightly in solace as she felt his lips softly touch her forehead. She entwined her hand with his as they started treading towards the path that led to their small cottage, their personal heaven.
'Can you make me a strawberry smoothie with vanilla ice cream?', she asked him tentatively, testing her waters.
'I thought you wanted to curb your midnight snacking'
'But jelllaaaaaaaaaaaal!', she wailed in desperation, 'dealing with those perverts drained my energy!'
'I can always make a bowl of fruits oats for you.'
'Noooooooo! That's way too heathy!'
'Okay how about this?', he tried to reason with her, 'I'll make milk oats for you with honey and loads of freshly cut strawberries. Sounds like a good deal to me, what do you think?'
She thought about the offer for a moment. It did actually sound like a good deal. She knew she kind of gave in to her midnight sugar cravings. Milk oats were a heathier option.
She pouted and tried to act a little spoiled, 'only if you bribe me.'
'What a scandal! The great titania is asking for a bribe!', he nudged her shoulder playfully and she huffed in response to his actions, 'what are your demands?'
'You need to pepper me with as many kisses as I ask you for!'
' My, My, I was already planning on giving you a thousand kisses when we reach home, don't worry about that', he replied as he gave her a wink making her blush profusely.
If anyone heard them conversing in this manner, their eyeballs would pop out from their eye sockets. They were incredible mages, well versed with the ethics of professionalism. They completed their tasks seriously but when they were alone, it becomes a different story.

Helping Miss Fernandes - Part 3
Summary: When Jellal got himself into yet another trouble, which was also partly her fault, Meredy decided that Erza was the best person to give him a hand until she found the way to got him out from his predicament.
Words: 3500+
A/N: I'm a liar. I didn't finish this fic in chapter 3. I have never planned this to be this long. It seemed that I easily got carried away when writing this fic.
And I just realized it's almost a year since I posted chapter 1. I'm really sorry for this extremely slow update.
To everyone who has expressed interest in this fic, my heartfelt thank you for your support and patience. It means a lot to me, really.
Part 1, Part 2
FFN
When Jellal gradually regained his conscious from his sleep but still wasn't awaken enough to open his eyes, there were several things he could sense. Bright rays from the morning sun were kissing his eyelids through the curtainless windows. The short strands of his hair was wavering ever so lightly when chill breeze blew past him. Chirps from different birds he wouldn't know the names were hitting his eardrum, some louder and closer while some quieter and farther, waking him up further.
He inhaled deeply, feeling a weight that wasn't exactly heavy but neither light enough for him to ignore completely resting firmly on his chest. He wanted to rub his eyes, but his fingers were tangled up in something soft and smooth and felt like home that they refused to move.
Jellal blinked lazily for a few times before finally opened his eyes fully, finding focus. The greeneries outside the windows came into his sight first, before something red drew his attention away. Gazing downward, he saw the top of a red head, and realized that the weight on his chest came from Erza pillowing her head on him. He raised his head a little to get a better look at their sleeping poses. Somehow along the night, Erza had given up on clutching onto his arm in favor of draping her arm over his waist. His hands, without him remembering moving them, one had ran into Erza's hair while the other had found a place to rest on her upper arm.
Reasoning with himself that he was only afraid that moving his hands away would wake Erza up accidently but not wanting to enjoy the contact longer, Jellal allowed his hands to stay where they were as he tilted his head a little to the side to look at Erza's sleeping face. He wondered what she was dreaming that made her draw her brows together, and wished that he could smooth the faint wrinkles appeared on her forehead.
Jellal laid his head back down on the folded cloak he used as his pillow when his neck felt tired, but kept his gaze gulp to Erza and watched the way her head resting on his chest rose when he inhaled and fell when he exhaled. He remembered how he had dreamed of being hugged by Erza and falling asleep on her breasts for more than a few times. Who would have thought that there would come this day when it was Erza who got the opportunity to sleep on his breasts? It was another unusual thing he experienced since he had been turned into a woman. But this one was not anything unpleasant.
With Erza by his side, it was peace that Jellal found. The pathetic state he was currently in only became more tolerable because Erza was here to support him. He was too stubborn at the beginning to turn down Meredy's suggestion of asking Erza to come to accompany him. If he had been left alone while waiting for Meredy to get the antidote, he could only imagine that a day would have felt like a year long, as he tried frustratingly and helplessly to live normally with his new body while imagining the worst scenarios to make himself more miserable. He owed Meredy a thank you and also an apology.
Jellal closed his eyes again, not really had the intention to go back into dreamland, but was only hoping to relax and relish the rare closeness Erza and he shared while he waited for her to wake up naturally. He wanted Erza to get all the rest she needed after all the travelling she did to come to him and taking care of him. He willed his body to loosen up and to not move to not disturb Erza in her sleep, except that he couldn't stop his fingers from swirling the end of Erza's strands around them.
But it was not like Erza could feel Jellal's fingers playing her hair anyway; his gesture too small and too gentle for her to notice in her sleep. She was also completely oblivious to the touches of his hands on her skin, or the way she cuddled him and slept on his chest. She was too occupied in her dream. In her head, she was trying to buy a slice of strawberry cheesecake from her favorite bakery but to her dismay, it had been sold out. She went to a different shop, but encountered the same result. She ran around in Magnolia, visiting every bakery shop she knew to exist, but none of them had any strawberry cheesecake left. She was angry, disappointed, and unable to understand why all the bakery in the town had conspired against her.
Erza balled her fist, grumbled lowly, and breathed in deeply before she woke up from her unpleasant dream. Her eyelids still felt heavy and her brain was still slow in processing the reality. For a moment, she thought that she was at Fairy Hills, having a sleepover in Juvia's room and cuddling up to the water mage in her bed. But then she thought the bed she was sleeping in now was too hard to be Juvia's. No, she had been sleeping on floor board last night. And with Jellal by her side.
Her eyes opened wide. Not knowing if Jellal had waken up or not, Erza pushed herself up with the slightest motion. Her hair formed a curtain at her side blocking Jellal's face from her view, while her gaze fell on Jellal's breasts and her arm across his waist. She had never been shy with physical contact with friends, no matter boys or girls. But there were always exceptions when it came to Jellal. Even though cuddling with Jellal in bed was something Erza had dreamed of, she suddenly felt embarrassed that she had actually treated him as her body pillow and on top taken advantage of his breasts which were a problem he was facing now.
Tucking a strand of hair behind her hair, she slowly turned to the side to look at Jellal. Jellal was looking at her too, and wearing a faint smile on his lips. "Morning, Erza."
"M-morning." Erza raised to a sitting position and shifted back a little bit to leave some space between Jellal and herself. "I'm sorry. I have no idea how I ended up sleeping on you. I hope I didn't ruin your sleep."
"You didn't." Jellal smiled. "And you need not feel sorry about sleeping on me." He got up and turned his face away from Erza as he picked up his cloak from the floor, before adding in a whisper. "I don't mind."
Erza could still hear Jellal's words. Her face felt warm. She couldn't help but wonder if Jellal meant he actually liked her sleeping on him or he just wasn't bothered by it at all when he said "I don't mind". And she wasn't sure what was appropriate to say in response to his statement. Or it might not be necessary for her to say anything back.
"You are fine with not putting on the cloak?" She asked with concern when seeing that Jellal had placed the cloak on the bed, and took the chance to change the topic of their conversation.
Jellal stiffened, before turning around to face Erza. "Do you think I should?"
"If it makes you feel safer, then yes. I know the change is uneasy to deal with. But just know that it doesn't make your body a shame that needs to be hid from your own eyes or from mine."
Jellal's stance softened. "I know you won't see me with judging eyes. I'm trying to be rational. With the cloak or not my body won't change back until I have the antidote. And it isn't exactly comfortable or convenient to wear it all day long."
Erza nodded approvingly, feeling glad that Jellal had displayed more positivity than the day before. "Anything you feel comfortable with doing."
Erza rose to her feet and called her magic to get change into her daily armour. Before Jellal could consider looking away from her naked form in her process of change, she had already finished changing. With a smile that spoke of his admiration for her magical ability, Jellal opened the door for Erza to go into the living room before following her steps.
"Do you have any plan for today?" Erza asked Jellal while she was munching the mixed berries muffin she bought from her shopping trip yesterday. Strawberry cheesecake would be her number one choice but without a proper refrigerator she had to accept the second best she could find. She remembered her dream and thought it was no coincidence
"Not really." Jellal answered as he took another bite of the chocolate muffin, before smiling a little bitterly. "The reason Meredy and I are here is that we heard that an escaped former dark-guild leader is trying to recruit new members in this area. We've planned to do a search to verify the rumours. But with my current state I don't think it's a good idea for me to do the search now as originally planned."
"It's not." Erza agreed. She could see that trying to stay positive and to adjust to the changes of his body until the antidote arrived had already exhausted Jellal. It would be dangerous for him to continue his dark-mage-searching job when he couldn't focus his mind. "But not that you can't go out at all."
She didn't want him to stay inside the house all day doing nothing but to worry about what if he could never change back.
"I plan to do my routine morning jogging. You can join me. Exercise helps releasing stress."
Jellal wasn't sure if he would really feel relax to do exercise with a body he wasn't familiar with anymore. But Erza invited him with good intention. And did he really want to pass any chance of spending time with Erza before she left his side unavoidably?
"What's your concern, Jellal?" Erza asked when noticing his hesitancy in answering her.
"Nothing in particular."Jellal smiled a little. "I just wonder how it would feel to do exercise with this body."
"So will you join me?" Erza sounded hopeful, but there was a tenseness in her voice that Jellal picked up easily.
"I will." Jellal said firmly.
Erza sighed in relief visibly. "Good. Then let's go after finishing these muffins."
Jellal didn't know if Erza was impatience or hungry or simply loved muffins as he watched her devouring her three muffins in a minute or two. What he knew was that she looked very satisfied like kids who had just tasted their favorite candies. He gave a small chuckle before picking up his last muffin.
"What made you laugh?"
Jellal met Erza's curious gaze and swallowed "You are adorable" with the muffin in his mouth, before his gaze was drawn to her mouth. He touched the left corners of his lips with his index finger and told Erza, "There are some remainings on your lips here."
"Oh." Erza wiped her lips with her thumb and Jellal hoped that it was his finger which did the task for her. "It's clean now?"
"Yes."
"Thanks." Erza smiled timidly; her soft expression made Jellal's heart skip a beat and reminded him the little shy girl she once was when he first met her in the Tower.
"Do I…...still have other things on my face?"
Realizing that he had been staring at her, Jellal teared his gaze away. "No. Your face look perfect."
"This…..this is good to hear." Erza laughed awkwardly and looked away from Jellal too with her face turning into the color pink. She felt stupid to feel giddy simply because Jellal had said something sounding like a compliment to her look.
But Jellal wasn't aware of Erza's reaction. He was stuffing the muffin into his mouth and avoiding eye contact with Erza, not wanting to make her feel uncomfortable. Only after the muffin had filled his stomach then he looked back at her.
"Anytime you want to go, I'm ready to too."
Erza turned to meet Jellal's eyes and nodded with an approving smile, having calmed down already. "Now is as good as any I guess. Let's go."
They jogged along the stream which separated the village from the woods at the north side. As Jellal had expected, something as simple as running now became unnatural for him to do after his body changed its' shape dramatically. He was hyper aware of the hollowness at his crotch not feeling the occasional rubbing of his sensitive body part against his inner thighs anymore, and also of the extra weight on his chest as his new breasts bounced following every step he took. And he wasn't as muscular as he used to be in his female form now that his move felt less powerful.
The only thing that helped to distract him from all the wrong things about his body was Erza. He let her lead and took glances at her as he ran a few steps away and behind her. She had changed into her running clothes - a pair of capri pants and a sport bra - using requip. The tight outfit showed off her perfect shape, from her ample breasts to her slim waist and from her round buttock to her long legs. He must admit while he found his own female body a lot unformatable to live with, Erza's body was absolutely a fine one to be admired. She had also tired her hair up into two low pigtails. It was a look of her he saw for the first time and he decided that he liked how adorable she looked in such hairstyle.
When Erza changed her pace and ran beside him, Jellal raised a brow and felt a little worried if she had felt him watching her and didn't like it.
"Does jogging make you feel sick or pain anywhere?" Erza asked Jellal. She was only remembering his concern when she asked him to join her. "If you are not feeling well, you must tell me and we will stop."
"I'm not feeling unwell anywhere." Jellal softly said with a small smile on his lips. "Just that I need to pay some extra attention at my running pose because my sense of balance isn't the same as before in this different body. But I have no problem in running more."
"You are not forcing yourself to not worry me, right?"
"I'm not. You can tell if I lie because I'm a bad liar, right?"
Erza couldn't help but chuckle. "Right."
They kept running for another thirty minutes, until the stream led them to a pond under a waterfall and Erza suggested that they should take a break before returning.
They sat down by the ponside, and Erza took off her shoes and dipped her feet into the water. "This feels good." She sighed in delight before looking at Jellal. "You should do this too!"
Seeing no reason why he couldn't, Jellal nodded and copied what Erza did. His tensed feet felt relaxed under the cool water and his sweating body was cooling down slowly thanking to the fresh air around the waterfall. He felt peace taking over agitation in his heart, being embraced by nature's tranquility and having released some of his stress through exercising.
"I want to swim."
Erza's sudden proclamation broke the silence between them and made Jellal quirked a questioning eyebrow at her.
"This pond looks good for swimming and I want to feel the water on my skin." Erza explained with an expectant look in her eyes.
Without waiting for Jellal's further response, she stood up with her body glowing in white light. The light faded in a blink of an eye, and she had changed into a set of white bikini. Her exposed skin seemed to gleam under the sunlight, being covered in beads of sweat.
Jellal swallowed as his gaze moved up from Erza's legs to her torso. Memories of their encounter at a certain waterpark surfaced in his head again, including the feel of Erza's soft breasts against his palms. His mouth suddenly felt dry; his heart skipped a beat when Erza turned to look down at him.
She smirked, before jumping into the pond.
A smile crept onto Jellal's face as he watched Erza enjoying herself, swimming around lazily and occasionally underwater. And he wondered if Erza had always been this spontaneous. He felt kind of envy of her that she could follow her heart and act on impulse to do what came to her mind. He, on the other hand, could never make a move without first considering the possible consequences of his actions. Meredy had said that sometimes he was thinking too much over something simple. But after how he got changed into a woman simply because he hadn't asked if he could drink the liquid in a cup, he guess it was never too much to be cautious.
He sighed, feeling his heart getting heavy again at the thought of the possibility of his body not changing back to normal.
"Jellal! Would you like to join me? It feels great swimming down here!" Erza cheerful voice called out to Jellal, pulling him out from the dark corner of his mind.
"I…" Jellal gazed down at what he wore before looking at Erza. "I'll pass. I can't requip in a swimsuit like you." And he certainly didn't own a piece of woman's swimsuit which he could wear now even he knew requip. He gave Erza an easy smile, not minding to just stay at the pondside to watch her swimming. "I'm fine taking a rest here."
"I wasn't thinking things through before asking you." Erza smiled sheepishly. "Stupid me."
"You aren't stupid. It's not a big deal. Enjoy swimming all you want to; don't mind me."
Being urged by Jellal's words, Erza nodded and turned to swim underwater again.
She mused if it was her friends from Fairy Tail, they probably would jump in the pond simply wearing nothing if they wanted to swim but didn't bring any swimsuit. Clearly Jellal wasn't as carefree as them. On top of that, he wouldn't want to expose his body to others' eyes in his current state, which she understood. Yet, she wondered what it would be like to have Jellal swim naked in his natural-born figure alongside her. It wasn't like she hadn't seen nude men before…...
She re-surfaced above the water when her imagination went wide from innocent swimming to some naughty things couple did she learned from her erotic novels.
She glanced at Jellal, and found him idly looking up at the sky. But he soon became aware of her gaze directing at him and turned his gaze to her too and waved at her. She decided that she didn't want to keep him waiting for her alone anymore.
"You've done swimming?" Jellal asked; his eyes followed Erza's movement as she got out from the pond and sat down beside him. He didn't want to stare but couldn't take his eyes off her. The way her damp hair framed her figure and hung onto her wet skin, and how its bright scarlet color contrasted to her white bikini, had made her look extra sexy in his view.
"Yes. I think it's around time for us to go back." Erza answered, turning her head to face Jellal with a concerned look in her eyes. "Did you get bored waiting for me?"
"No." Jellal didn't think he could get bored when he was around Erza, even he was doing nothing but simply watching her. "I quite enjoyed the tranquility here."
"Good."
Erza smiled, to which Jellal responded with the same expression. No words formed between them as they simply had their gaze fixated on each other.
Erza could feel that she was still being physically attracted to Jellal as she studied his face, even he now looked like a woman instead of a man. He was simply pretty as a woman the same way he was handsome as a man, with his well-defined facial features and beautiful and soulful eyes. And she wondered if his face had gotten closer and closer to hers or if it was only an illusion.
Only when her shoulder touched Jellal's, Erza realized that they had truly been leaning forward to each other, slowly closing the distance between their faces. She jerked backward leaning away from him, being stuck by the sudden fear that she was going to do something stupid and embarrassing.
Jellal only stared at Erza with wide eyes like he was startled by her reaction. But it took him merely a second to realize what they had just tried to do to each other.
"Erza." He could feel his face warming up. "I-I didn't -"
"A-are we leaving yet?" Erza simply wished to move on to any topic other than what had almost happened between them. It was an irrational act driven by desire, and it brought back a bittersweet memory of a similar situation. Without waiting for an answer further, she stood up and changed back to her jogging outfit.
Jellal watched Erza carefully for a moment. Getting that she didn't want to hear any apology or explanation from him, he got up too.
"Yes. Let's go back."

A/N: This was a WOTD from a couple days ago that I finally finished! This was my first time writing Lyredy so I hope I did them justice. Thank you @smartcookie727 for the ship and @sassyhazelowl for the word :)
Hoax - a humorous or malicious deception.
Looking over her masterpiece, Meredy grinned.
“Don’t you think you’re going over the top…?” said Ultear, peering over Meredy’s shoulder.
Meredy just shook her head. She spritzed the heart covered letter with her favorite perfume. There. Now it was finished.
“You’d think he’d recognize the perfume, it’s the only one you wear,” Ultear said as she turned away.
“That’s the best part! Meredy clapped her hands together, “he has no idea who this secret admirer is even with all the hints I’ve given him. I truly am a hoax master.” She said smugly.
Ultear eyed her friend warily, “I don’t think he’s as oblivious as you think.”
Meredy hushed her and finished putting the letter in an envelope. She signed Lyon’s name with a heart flourish on the outside and giggled. He was clueless!
It had started a few months back. After hearing Levy discuss a book about a secret admirer and the admired falling in love when she last visited Fairy Tail, Meredy felt inspired. Too shy to ever tell Lyon her true feelings to his face, she opted to take the anonymous route in hope that he’d figure it out and confess his own feelings to Meredy. Plus she thought it was fun to write these elaborate letters to him. Both Ultear and Jellal attempted to talk her out of putting on this hoax unsuccessfully.
So far, Lyon had actually been clueless. Lyon and Meredy had taken to spending time together anytime the other was in their part of Fiore and Meredy started to look forward to hearing Lyon talk about this ‘secret admirer’ of his. She couldn’t wait to hear what he had to say about this letter, it was the most dramatic of them all. It had been exhilarating putting her truest feelings down on paper knowing that he’d read every single word.
It did not turn out like she had thought it would. Not even close. Twenty minutes into her time with Lyon and she was panicking.
“You wouldn’t believe this,” Lyon said as a greeting, piquing Meredy’s interest instantly, “I think I finally figured out who my secret admirer is.”
Meredy could barely contain her anticipation. She’d been waiting for this moment since she wrote the letter. It had been a long couple of weeks waiting for this. This was it! Finally.
She responded, trying to keep her voice as even as possible to feign apathy, “Oh really? Who do you think it is?”
Lyon’s face was impassive as always, not yielding any hints as to what was going through that icebox of a mind.
“Juvia. It’s definitely Juvia.”
Meredy blinked. And then blinked again.
“Juvia?” She asked, just to make sure she heard him correctly.
“It just makes sense doesn’t it?” No. “She’d want to stay anonymous to not hurt Gray’s feelings, right? No. No! “I’m thinking about taking a trip to Magnolia to confront her with flowers in hand. Do you think that’ll be too much? Lyon glanced at Meredy, waiting for her response.
Mind racing, Meredy stared at the table. This wasn’t supposed to happen! He was supposed to realize it was her, no one else. How did this fun hoax turn sour with one letter? She was going to lose Lyon to another woman and she was the one who pushed him away.
“Do you think she’d prefer ice roses or real roses?” Lyon prompted.
Meredy didn’t respond, her brows furrowed in frustration.
How did this get so out of hand? She had worked so hard to make it obvious. This was supposed to be fun, something they’d joke about years later with each other. Lyon was supposed to sweep her off of her feet, not Juvia.
“Meredy?” Lyon said with a small smirk on his lips as he watched her.
She couldn’t take this anymore.
“It was ME!” Meredy exclaimed loudly, pounding the table top that they sat at. “I sent all of those letters. I’m the secret admirer!” She gestured towards herself in frustration.
This is exactly what she didn’t want to happen, but it was too late now.
“Iknow,” he replied, the smirk on his lips growing.
“This whole time I… wait,” she paused, processing his words, “you knew?”
“I’ve known this whole time.”
For months now he’s known… and said nothing?
“You… why didn’t… how?” She could feel her face flush, turning a lighter shade of the color of her hair.
“You’re handwriting gave it away at first. I’ve seen you write before. The way you write in half cursive half print is quite unique.”
Meredy’s mouth fell open. She never considered that. She didn’t think he’d ever seen her write let alone observe it enough to recognize it.
“Why didn’t you say anything?” She asked.
Before the words finished leaving her lips, the realization hit her. He didn’t say anything because he didn’t feel the same way. He wanted to save her from the embarrassment. Oh Mavis, what has she done? Her heart dropped, shattering like an ice sculpture hitting the cold, hard cement.
“I was curious how far you’d go with it,” he said and her face fell. She was right. He continued before she could respond, “I rather enjoyed them. You put a lot of thought into every one of those notes, didn’t you?”
She looked at him in disbelief. He enjoyed them? It didn’t make sense. If he enjoyed them, he should have confronted her.
“Meredy, you didn’t have to go through this to tell me how you felt. Although I have saved every one of those letters,” he said, reaching out to grab her hand.
She felt as though she would melt right then.
“I couldn’t just tell you. I didn’t want to ruin this, whatever we have, if you didn’t feel the same way,” she exclaimed, not meeting his eyes.
“But I do.”
Looking up then, she could see the sincerity shining in his eyes. Meredy could feel her heart doing flips in her chest. The feeling she’s been concealing for over a year was mutual. She felt as though she would explode.
What a rollercoaster of emotion this day had been.
They held each other’s gaze for a moment before they both grinned. Meredy reached across the table to smack him on the arm.
“How dare you scare me like that! Juvia? Really?” She couldn’t help but smile still.
“You should’ve seen your face! That’s what you get for this whole hoax. Better think twice next time you try and pull something like this on me again,” Lyon said, puffing out his chest in feigned arrogance.
Meredy laughed, the musical tones filling the Lamia Scale guild hall. Things were going to be just fine.

. Between the Lines . 204
A week passed and Lucy found that there was no change with her Spirits. She tried every morning and evening with no success, and she found herself struggling not to get angry with them whenever they didn't show up. They likely had their reasons, but it was still frustrating.
She trained most mornings with Jellal, although Natsu and Gray had taken over for one session, and it was doing her some good. She'd slowly begun to improve though she was still struggling a little to figure out how to move fast enough to block blows that had resulted in bruises. Everyone who had made them apologized, but Lucy waved them off, taking them with an easy smile.
It was only a few days before the Fantasia Parade and Lucy found herself in a shop with Erza and Jellal. The two mages had been dragged out of their training by Erza to get some costumes fitted for their float on the parade - another thing they'd been working on. Lucy was somewhat annoyed that she couldn't do very much without her Spirits, but prided herself in knowing she could use her whip and had finally figured out how to force her magic into her fingertips. She hoped to be able to show it off by the Parade.
"I wish I could get some of the clothing from the Celestial Realm," Lucy admitted as she picked out a beautiful piece of cloth for a dress. It was black with a shimmer that looked like stars. It had nothing on the clothes Virgo could get her.
Jellal glanced over from where Erza was helping a seamstress get his measurements. "Nothing can be done about the matter, Lucy. It's not your fault. We'll figure out what's going on after the Fantasia Parade. Have you talked with Yukino?"
Lucy checked her new phone. "Yeah. She said that her Spirits aren't coming when she summons them either. It nearly got her killed when she was on a job with Rogue.  Before they wrecked the guildhall."
"Then it might be a bigger problem than we thought," Erza commented with a frown. "I'll speak to Master. He might have a suggestion on what we should do. Jellal, what do you think of this shade of gold for the material Lucy picked out?" She offered him a swatch of cloth.
"Let me see that cloth, Lucy," Jellal mused, and she handed it over. Jellal paused to compare them. "A shade darker would be better. We want to maybe match Lucy's keys and the shades of gold that Natsu's gifted her."
Lucy grimaced, remembering the arm bands that they'd pulled from the debris of her house. Not much else had been left and Natsu, for whatever reason, had begun to lay gold objects along her bookshelves when she wasn't paying attention. He'd spread the armbands out, carefully arranged a small amount of gold jewelry he'd given her, and even had set up what looked like some ancient golden statue in the corner of the top most shelf.
"If someone broke into the house," she muttered, rolling her eyes, "They'd be rich instantly. And then fried. He's been laying out some dragon-related magic with Gajeel's help."
"Is he moving his hoard or something?" Erza demanded.
"No," she laughed. "He says he's just rearranging." She flicked a ridiculously long strand of hair off of her shoulder, and then examined it. "Hm...I've been thinking of getting a haircut. I was going to have Cancer style it, but…" She faltered.
"Why don't you wait until after we've figured out what's going on?" Jellal looked at her for a quick moment and then selected a style of jacket from the book a man brought him. He'd made sure to choose a style that would match well with the style of dress Lucy had wanted, and Erza gave him an approving nod.
"Yeah," Lucy agreed. She paused. "Do you think Natsu's going to have a melt down over it?"
"He might," Erza admitted with a grin. The scarlet-haired woman planted her hands on her jean-clad hips. She'd decided on her favorite armor for her own float and said she'd been there with Gray and Juvia three days before for their costumes. "The other slayers have pointed out time and time again that your hair is the closest anyone's seen to gold."
"No wonder Igneel liked my mother so much," Lucy said with a snort and Erza chuckled before touching her arm gently. "Lucy, we've been thinking. Would you perhaps like to take a day and visit your parents' graves soon?"
Lucy jolted, not having expected such a suggestion. "Yeah," she said softly after a moment. Then she sighed. "I need to run and check with some government stuff in Bosco anyways, make sure that Hisui's running the country pretty well. I need to make an appearance - and soon, before they start spreading rumors that I don't care."
"It would be bad," Jellal agreed, "If there were things going wrong that you didn't know about. Hisui has not been the...best source of information. Nor has she been a good leader as of late."
Lucy thought over that. Her face paled. "If I can't convince my people that Hisui is a good leader, that she will do right by them, I will have to...I will have to hand my throne over to someone else entirely or I will have to take it myself. And if I take that throne...I will not be able to stay here. I'll have to go back and be a queen and I will have to marry some man I don't even like to keep the alliances Bosco holds going."
Silence fell. The men and women who were working on them said nothing. Erza and Jellal exchanged a look. Neither liked the idea of her words reaching Natsu's ears. The cranky dragon slayer had been having problems with his temper lately, had even been restless enough that he'd snapped at Wendy. If they took Lucy, who could usually keep him calm, away and put her in a place he knew she didn't like…
There was a long moment in which Jellal studied her, and then he said quietly, "If someone needs to take your throne...even temporarily...say the word, Lucy, and I will do it."
Even the seamstress working on him gaped up at his serious face.
"Jellal," Erza began, but he held up a hand to silence her. His eyes were locked on Lucy's, whose mouth had fallen open in her shock.
"I'm serious," he told her. "If you do not believe they will listen...that Hisui is no longer capable in their eyes, that you need someone you can trust to take the throne until you yourself are ready to take it, I will run your country for you. I appreciate everything that Fairy Tail has done for me, and I certainly appreciate what I have learned and been entrusted with here, but...working as I have will not allow me to make up for the mistakes of the past." His shoulders tightened. "I fought alongside you all in the Grand Magic Games. And I battled with you in the streets of Crocus, but it isn't enough for the damage I have done. Being cleared by the Council is not enough. And I will never be able to get rid of the whispers this way. Never." He raised his chin suddenly.
"I have already decided to leave the guild. I wasn't sure when. Perhaps when Lucy didn't want to train anymore. Perhaps before. Perhaps as soon as after the Fantasia Parade. Cobra is leaving with me."
"What?" Lucy gasped.
"Meredy is leaving Lamia Scale," he continued, "And Sorano is leaving Sabertooth. I have invited the three of them to join me in a new guild, an independent guild, that will focus on redemption. And should anyone else join us, they will be welcomed with open arms and fully trusted until proven otherwise." He turned his dark eyes gently on Erza, who looked heartbroken by this. "I do not regret joining Fairy Tail, Erza, nor do I wish to upset and hurt you. But we have not yet turned back the clock like you believe we have."
Erza was silent.
And then she shook her head and left.
Lucy was quiet as he watched after her, guilt fluttering over his expression, but she reached out and squeezed his arm reassuringly. "I think," she said gently, "That that is a brilliant plan, Jellal. And I am sure that you will be more than welcomed back when you have deemed yourself able."
He offered her a kind smile. "Thank you."
She saw the true gratitude in his eyes and smiled warmly. "And I accept." He blinked in confusion. "I accept your offer. To take over Bosco for me. Cobra, Sorano, and Meredy can all help you, of course. I'll accompany you to where the government is centered around and I'll instruct those there on who they will answer to. I will announce it to the people of Bosco, and I will alert Hisui."
Jellal's lips curved into a surprisingly large grin. "We will do our best to make sure that Bosco is run correctly, Lucy."
Lucy beamed. "We head out the day after the Fantasia Parade."
That night found Lucy waking up to shrieking and smoke, sobbing and heat.
She shot to her feet, dressed in some new pajamas Levy had picked up for her. She raced out of the room without hesitation and wrinkled her nose at the smell of smoke, her eyes watering at the thickness of it as it rolled out of Natsu's room.
Without hesitation, fully trusting that he wouldn't hurt her, she ducked in.
He was in the middle of the charred room, huddled into a ball. Happy was pressed against a wall, fur singed and his eyes full of tears and terror. He fled when Lucy appeared, bristling. Natsu had shed a shirt to sleep, leaving his scarf on.
The room itself was in flames.
They leaped and then roared when he let loose a keening cry that brought tears to Lucy's eyes. She stumbled through the heat and flames, ignoring the pain they brought, until she reached him, and then dropped to her knees in front of him.
His onyx eyes were wide, unseeing, his breath heaving in his chest. He stared at his hands blankly. Tears rolled down his cheeks and then a ragged sob tore from him. Panic took over and he was soon struggling to breathe, unable to draw in that breath he so desperately needed.
"Natsu," Lucy said gently, cradling his face in her hands. "Natsu, calm down. Breathe. You're okay."
He slowly shook his head. "Dead," he choked out, sobbing. The sounds tore through her. "She's dead, Lucy's dead-"
"No," Lucy denied, tightening her grip on his chin. "I'm right here. Natsu, look at me. Look at me."
His gaze lifted slowly, the shadows beneath his eyes as black as ever. He stared blankly at her and then let his gaze slide back to his hands. His eyes widened in horror. "There's blood," he said in a strangled voice. "Blood-"
Lucy forced his head back up, trapping him there. As he'd done so many times for her, she pressed her forehead against his. His smoky breath washed over his face, and his gaze searched hers, forced to focus. "Natsu," she said firmly. "There is no blood. I'm not dead. I'm right here. You had a nightmare, okay? Just a dream. It was just a dream."
"Dream?" he whispered. "It was...a dream?"
"Yes," she confirmed. "Just a dream, Natsu. I'm right here. I'm alive. See?" She took his hand gently and rested it over her heart so he could feel the steady thumping. "I'm alive."
He shook free and she jumped when he suddenly lunged. He caught around the waist with his arms and slammed his ear almost painfully over her chest, searching. When he found the sound of her heart, fluttering wildly at his sudden action, he groaned, shuddering.
"I'm alright," she soothed, stroking his hair, cradling him to her. She rested her cheek against the top of his head. "Everything's fine. We're home, remember? We're in Magnolia. The dragons, all of that stuff, it's all gone. I'm right here."
Lucy wondered if anyone else had nightmares like they did.
When they went to the guildhall the next morning, Erza was there, gaze stony and strawberry cake in her hand. But her gaze softened when Natsu and Lucy joined her. She watched Natsu slump onto the table, back asleep in seconds, and Lucy reached across the table to gently run her fingers through his hair before telling Erza quietly, "We had a really long night."
"Nightmares?" Erza asked.
Lucy nodded. "When we were in Crocus," she said, frowning, "My future self died in front of us. She died holding my hand. Natsu...Natsu lost it for a moment. And then he started fighting. But he's been having a rough time sleeping because of it."
Erza's eyes flashed and then she smiled gently. "I do not agree with sharing beds without marriage, as you know, but I am glad that you're able to help him at least a little. When we were working on the house, he was genuinely worried that you wouldn't like any of the changes he'd made."
Lucy snorted. "Nonsense. I appreciate it a lot."
"Yes, but he was very picky because of it." Erza gave a wistful smile. "A little over a year ago, Lucy, that house was empty and we hadn't seen him in months. To see him every day, even as exhausted from nightmares as he is...relying on us, on you…"
Erza reached out and ran her fingers through his hair, too, affectionate.
Neither said more.

AU Natear Meredy as their biological daughter Drabble
Meredyloved her mother, she really did. After all, it was because of her oldaffiliations that Meredy was able to obtain that book on Maguilty Sense andstart studying it at her young age. Kaasan also treated her to ice-cream, andshowed some of her old memories through her Arc of Time. And she gave sage,level-headed advice on practically anything.
... ButMeredy was a die-hard daddy’s girl. C’mon, they had the same friggin’ pinkhair! Wasn’t that awesome?! What’smore, he was a free spirit. That meant whenever she was weighed down by all ofkaasan’s rules and her ‘you will study, and you will like it’ attitude, he wasthe one to give her a release. Like… slipping poison ivy into Uncle Gray’spants after he’s stripped down. Or… planting Kemo-Kemo plants all around Erzaand Jellal’s yard (mostly to make Jellal paranoid, but Auntie Erza loves thoseplants, so he won’t dare touch them). Tousan made her childhood fun, and hecontinued to make her smile and laugh into her teenage years. When Kaasan wouldn’tlet her keep a cute bunny rabbit that could leap twenty feet in the air andbreathe fire, tousan set up a rabbit hutch deep in the woods, where Meredywould visit it daily and feed and play with it. Of course, they had tofireproof the hutch… and make a bigger cage when they found out this thing wasgonna be huge when it grew up (it was as tall as her now, and looked every bitas cute as the day she’d found it). Put simply, kaasan would flip if she foundout she and tousan were still raising this rabbit. Also… Tousan helped her makefriends with Romeo and Asuka. And he comforted her when she was sad or feelingdown. While kaasan would help her when she was injured, tousan did the best jobof keeping her warm and making her feel loved and protected. Kaasan had thatsame effect, of course, but the physical warmth tousan exuded was enough tomake harsh winters a breeze, and, when needed, put meanies in their place(basically, tousan beat the adults that teased her extra hard in the Guildbrawls).
Meredydearly loved her parents. They balanced each other out. And right now, she wasn’twith either of them.
“Make thewater go ‘sploosh’ again!” Meredy whined. The old man she was sitting next tosighed breezily.
“No. Iwould like to catch something this time, and disturbing the water scares awaythe fish.” He answered calmly, as he was used to such a request. Shouldn’t she,you know, have grown out of such childishness by now?
… Oh wait. Shewas a teenager.
A beat wentby. Then another. And yet another. Then…
            “Have youcaught anything yet?”
“No.” Tothe man’s credit, he managed to keep any irritation out of his voice, eventhough they’d spent the last two hours like this. Then again, it shouldn’t bemuch of a surprise…
“When areyou going to learn?! Fishing takes time!” Brandish huffed out on the other sideof August. Seriously, why couldn’t this girl take it easy? Jeez. “Stop buggingGrandpa!”
Meredy rolledher eyes. Fishing was, like, the one thing she didn’t like about tousan. Kaasansaid her distaste for fishing came from her; it was just so… mind-numbingly dull.Like, 99% of the time, you’re just sitting there, waiting to get a bite. Onlywhen you get a bite do you have to focus, and reel those suckers in. At least, this has been Meredy’s experience; in her defense, she’s nagged tousan, AuntieJuvia, Cousin August, and Grandpa Gildarts into doing stuff to the water tomake things more exciting. And sometimes, Cousin Brandish would make the fishgrow reeeally big. None of that wasconducive to fishing, but it kept Meredy entertained, and Happy was thrilledwhen the fishies were ginormous.
… Andthrough all of that, Meredy didn’t find her family tree odd in the least.Kaasan explained tousan had apparently jumped through time 400 years, whiletousan’s brother lived those 400 years and had a child with Granny Mavis. Thatmade August her Cousin, and Meredy hasn’t stopped calling him that, much toBrandish’s bewilderment and August’s (slight) amusement. Sure, the fact theylived on separate continents meant they didn’t get to see each other much, butthey were still family. Meredy had been around seven or eight when the twocontinents were at war, so it was easy for her to just see them as family. After all, she’d been on different battlefields when Brandish and August wereattacking, so she had never seen them as frightening enemies. Tousan and kaasanwere a bit different, but they still entrusted her to August’s care when theywere visiting Alvarez on business. Reason being that he retired from being aSpriggan Shield after the war, to spend his days renewing his bond withBrandish.
Meredy’seyes suddenly darted across the water as she spotted a fish passing by at arapid pace.
“Ooh, there’sone! Quick, Randi, blow it up!” Meredy predictably demanded. Brandish couldfeel a tick mark developing on her forehead, as she didn’t like Meredy pickingup that nickname from Dimaria, but she obliged the pinkette, and the fishsplashed much of the river all over as it suddenly had a ridiculous growthspurt. It towered over all four of them, and Happy hungrily circled itoverhead.
Augustsighed as he was out one more fishing spot. He could just as easily put thewater back, but the fish weren’t going to come around here anytime soon withthat disturbance. And as he saw the sun begin to dip over the horizon, hesupposed it was for the best. Using a Spell to cut the enlarged fish into smallerchunks, he had Brandish enlarge the cooking fire nearby, and Meredy let herparents know they’d be back soon. Maguilty Sense was more than just a combatSpell, after all – many Spells could be used constructively, with enoughcreativity.
“Kaasan saysthat’s good; Granny wants to talk to you.” Meredy announced, carefree, after ashort while.
“You shouldaddress Her Eminence with more respect,” August chided the girl as he watchedover the fish chunks getting cooked. Meredy just laughed and lay sprawled outon the grass, arms propped under her head.
“But that’swhat Granny Irene wants me to call her~. We might not be related, but she kindathinks we coulda been at some point.” Meredy mused. And it was true enough;Irene had looked into her daughter’s relationship with the Dragon Slayer, andbeen fairly disappointed when that same daughter had kept it at friendship.Such a shame… But that didn’t mean Irene couldn’t act benevolent towards Natsuand his family.
“At leasttry to be a little more respectful in your tone…” August replied wearily. It’dbeen a looong day.
“Nopromises~.” It was Irene’s wishes against his, after all. Meredy could beformal when she wanted to, but that didn’t mean she liked that way ofaddressing people. Die-hard daddy’s girl, remember?
“Would youput the forks down? It’s gonna be a while still, and you’re not gonna devourthe whole thing yourself.” Brandish grumbled at the blue tomcat who was fixatedon the large fish chunks, across from where Meredy was sprawled out haphazardly.
“Challenge accepted!” Happy puffed out hischest, eliciting a groan from the green-head. It looked like it was going to beanother ‘contest’ between them… Not that it was much of one, when Brandishshrunk her competition when they were neck and neck.
Meanwhile,Meredy continued to beam up at the rosy sky. A lot of people saw her family aseccentric, and scratched their heads at the size of her ‘extended family’ –which, to be fair, included the Fairy Tail Guild, Granny Irene, Cousin August,Cousin Brandish, and maybe a few others she wasn’t thinking of off the top ofher head – but she wouldn’t give this up for the world. It hurt to lose GrandpaMakarov and a few others over the years, but for the time being it seemed likeno one else was going anywhere, and no wars seemed to be on the horizon. Afterdinner, they’d fly back to the capital on Air Happy, and probably stay thenight before flying back in the morning via the same jumbo-sized cat. Lots ofpeople would find that fantastical and outlandish, but for Meredy, it was thetypical life of the Dragneel family.
            Every daywas an adventure~.
            ~*~
Note: I know it didn't feature Natsu and Ultear - just talked about them - but I figured this was a good prompt to ponder about the 'extended family' that Meredy would have. Phwwwh. August being Meredy's Cousin cracks me up.... But it'd be true. XD Hope you enjoyed it a little.

Meredy Incarnation AU: Lamia Scale
Since the masterpost died a horrible death, it seems prudent to re-write each Incarnation separately. Basic info + scene snippets/drabbles!
Age: 17 Dress: She tends to dress very childishly with sundresses and floral prints, in no small part due to Lyon’s insistence. Ribbons are a particular favorite accessory. She also tends to wear knee-high socks and sturdy leather shoes that hold up to her running around. Her hair is short like her GH days and she replaced her wingmuffs with plain fuzzy ones because ‘they are too cute.’ Personality: Very outgoing and mischievous but mostly is Chelia’s shadow and support rather than having agency of her own. The two of them together are the biggest troublemakers around. She’s clever and willful and just a bit selfish and immature, but she means well most of the time. Relationships: Chelia is her best friend, Lyon is her fussy big brother, Sherry is the cool older sister type, the rest of the guild she regards as extended family although she’s not particularly close to them. Eve is her hardcore crush and she often invents reasons to visit Sherry and Ren for that reason. Magic: Due to the fact she’s a wanted criminal with a very distinct magic, Lyon has forbidden its use. She cheats, of course, but for the most part has forgotten how to use most of her spells at full power, and has never concretely developed more.
Amazing Art: Here and Here
Delicately, Ultear held the orb, long fingers cradling it with the utmost care, such a stark contrast to her younger days when she shattered and reformed it for fun.
It was too precious to chance now; her only glimpse into Meredy’s life was held in this magical sphere.
“You could see it in person,” the man behind her suggested, uncharacteristic hush and caution in his tone, knowing the criminal was unpredictable, unstable.
Hesitation, consideration, a delicate pause… “I already ruined her childhood; let her piece together a normal life without me there to ruin it. She’s better off without me, and that was the entire purpose of placing her under your care, Lyon.”
“Lamia Scale isn’t just a haven for lost children,” Lyon’s voice was soft, a quirk at the corner of his lips, “Unless you consider me a child as well.”
“MEREDY! CHELIA!”
Giggling, the pair of bandits bolted, Lyon’s stolen briefs fluttering out behind them like a flag of victory.
Ice tore around them, trapping them swiftly, the older man’s patience fraying in direct proportion to the amount of money he was spending to replace his wardrobe in the wake of thieving fingers. And this time, Sherry wasn’t around to intervene on their behalf.
“Give those back. Now. I am not playing with you girls any longer.”
“For a kiss!” Chelia demanded boldly, clutching her prize tight, while Meredy snickered as he leaned forward with a sigh and eye roll to chastely brush his lips across her cheek, deftly avoiding her head turn and lips while snatching the underwear out of her hand swiftly.
Ignoring Chelia’s pouty whine, he eyed her, “Are you going to give me trouble too?”
In response she put the underwear over his head like a hat and snapped a lacrima picture.
“You should go to school,” the Ice Mage shifted uncomfortably, tugging on his collar and reminding himself not to strip. The young girl started at him expectantly, horror etched upon her face, waiting for further explanation for why he’d punish her so savagely.
“Why? Chelia doesn’t go to school… wait, did you go to school?”
Already losing the fight, Lyon changed the subject, “Jura found a nice boarding school, and you can come home on weekends and holidays. This is a really good chance for you to… start over.”
“You mean not use my magic.”
When he didn’t deny it, she scowled rebelliously, more determined than ever to surpass him and show him who knew what was best for her.
“It’s LOOOOOOOVE~” Chelia cooed, nudging her partner in crime in the ribs with an elbow teasingly, as the two stared out the window of the ice cream parlor at the three Blue Pegasus mages strolling down the street.
Blushing and shoving her face in her sundae, Meredy retorted, “Is noooooooooot.”
Chelia hummed in disbelief before seemingly changing the topic, “Sherry said we can come over this weekend to visit.”
“Really? Uh, I mean…”
“LOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOVE~”
Pressing up against Chelia, she peered at the other teams skeptically before the prelim matches started, noting the distinct large amount of weirdos in the other guilds.
Sabertooth in particular seemed to be filled with nasty characters all around, and while she wanted to avoid them, Chelia seemed determined to ensure no one would overlook Lamia Scale.
When ruby eyes swept over them, Meredy shivered a little… until she saw the little pink cat. Chelia noticed it too, muttering, “Are you kidding me? How can I take someone like that seriously?”
But Meredy was charmed. By the cat. The owner, she was sure, would be taken care of in short order by Lyon or Jura.“
“Ul?” Meredy’s voice was hesitant, hopeful, but it tapered off as she spotted the man shadowing her. Staring for a long moment, looking between the stranger, Ultear and Lyon with worry, she didn’t speak or move.
Lyon moved forward to introduce them but Ultear put a soft hand on his arm, halting him, although the look he gave wasn’t particularly warm or welcoming towards the newcomer.
“Meredy,” Ultear began calmly, “This is my… partner, Jellal.”
Meredy processed that before asking with a leering grin, mischief sparkling in her eyes and Lyon tensing beneath Ultear’s hand, “Are you in LOOOOOOOOOOOVE?”
Lyon threw up his hands defensively as Jellal’s face paled and Ultear’s clouded over while Meredy giggled.
She stared uncertainly at the woman before her, rubbing her toe into the ground with reluctance and curling the ends of her hair between two fingers. Already her dress was torn and dirt crusted
“Lyon told me not to. You know, not to do it. Ever.” Glancing around and seeing no one, she leaned forward like she had a secret, face grave and not impish in the slightest for once, “Or there could be very bad consequences for everyone. And I don’t want that because they’re my family, and I love them. So, no, I can’t do it. Ever.”
The Fairy Tail mage gritted her teeth, sucking in a hissing, exasperated breath before managing, “Listen, kiddo, if ya don’t use your magic, we’re all toast. This is an emergency!”
“You’re not lying, are you.”
“What?” the Card Mage exploded then, throwing her hands up and rolling her eyes to the heavens, muttering about how she wasn’t a babysitter and swearing at the empty space to the left of her, appearing to be stark raving mad. Meredy shrunk back from the tantrum before the woman caught it and returned to calm, looking the young woman dead in the eye, “If you love your family, this is something yer gonna have to do to save them.”
Swallowing hard, Meredy nodded stiffly, resolute with only the tiniest quiver in her voice as a ring of bright magical blades materialized behind her, “I’m ready.”
