Have a headcannon dump of a LU!centaur Au that’s been cycling in my brain for a week, I’m quite possibly going to write a fic/do more art,
You’re free to leave ideas or suggestions for this Au as well
(Wild doodle to go with at the end)
•–•Au Basics:
-this is heavily based off the @linkeduniverse Au by @jojo56830
Basically it’s the same but every character (even side characters but they’re not important) are Centaurian, this is finicky and involves things like Cervitaurs, mermaids and whatnot,
This is hevily based on living conditions and most races are born with natural legs, ie; hylians are born with two hylian legs, and their secondary legs will grow in around the age of four depending on the food and lifestyle they’ve had until then, the secondary traits are usually set in by the age of six where they will no longer have their original legs.
—-
Now the headcannons (this is just the links cause idk much about the Zelda’s so I have to do more research)
—-
•–Time•
- The old man is a Stag, no I will not take criticism on this
Time started off his journey a young deer cervitaur, barely grown into his fawn limbs before coming into contact with Fi,
Deer are often seen as prey animals and weak, but we all know Time is seen as the leader for a reason,
My man got mad strong horns and has kicked, impaled and stomped on more Moblins then any sane person should, while deers are often seen as weak you would have to be blind, deaf, three years old and an idiot to think Time any less then the powerful stag that would lay his life down for his family
-
•–Sky•
-Loftwing… kind of a no brainer for this one
Oh yeah, our sleepy king has butt wings and you can’t stop me,
Sky was literally found in a Loftwing nest and the majority of Skyloft secretly think he’s a Hylian Centaur instead of the other way around,
Learning to fly was the literal worst, his wings took a few more years to fully develop so he got to flying later then most, the fact that his wings sit at an awkward place on the base between his hylian torso and his Skywing back doesn’t help that fact
Yes he’s still perfected the art of flying while asleep, not even other Loftwing hybrids know how he does it
-
•–Twilight •
-He’s… hes a Wolf… it’s… it’s twilight… literally what else would he be?
He was actually a wolf hybrid before his adventure started and is honestly not sure how it took so long for the chain to even start to theorise his connections with Wolfie,
Wind guessed they were long lost brothers,
Fun fact, Twi is allergic to fur, it took him embracingly long to realise, ‘Oh, I thought the air was just meant to hurt’
Legend likes to call him a husky and watch as Twi goes on a rant about how they are completely different, this went on for months before time brought a stop to it
-
•-Legend•
-Pegasus… is this because I love the Pegasus boots? You’ll never know
The only reason sky knows how to preen his wings is because legend literally sat on him one day and showed him
In the ‘Not quite horse centaurs’ club with Wild
His tail was unfortunately docked in his third adventure, Wind used his ‘ Customary Pirate Rope tying skills’ to fashion him a fake tail out of foe hair (yes it’s pink) and braided him a new tail,
Legend won’t admit but that was the day he started trusting the rest of the chain
Likes to cuff Wars over the head with his wings, he quickly found out Wars’ wings hurt a lot more to get hit by then his
-
•–Warriors•
-DragonDragonDRAGONDRA-
His scales are literally brighter then the chains future (admittedly not hard to be)
Learned the hard way that his claws are sharp and for completely non related reasons has a wooden backscratcher he won’t tell anyone about
Runs hotter then the others Links, thus why he always wears his scarf, Legend jokes he’s as cold blooded as his blood,
legend regrets.
Has an unhealthy obsession with shiny things, his time in the army has helped him restrain from stealing freshly polished swords and amour but four swears they had a freshly cleaned dagger right next to them and now it’s gone-
-
•–Four•
-Minish?? More like biggish (that was bad I’ll see myself out-)
Still Has four legs like a mouse instead of the two that minish usually have, but has the fluffiest tail in existence
Actually wasn’t sure what Minish were before meeting them so was super confused for the first few years after developing
When Wind was confused on how to use their pronouns (they/them) correctly they told him to just picture four mice in a Trenchcoat (it helped Wind a lot)
Paints their claws/nails, each foot is one of the four colours, the blue nails are for some reason always somehow chipped, Warriors ends up lending them some of his nail Polish which is sturdier
-
•–Hyrule•
-obsessing over the idea that Rules’ Hyrule is basically Australia so Rule is a kangaroo
Kangaroos are evil deer, Rule is the exception
Kangaroos are terrifying and could be hit by a truck and walk it off, lest to say Time had a mini breakdown after watching Hyrule get punched into a tree by a Hinox, stand up, then carry on with his life without so much as a scratch
They still suck at cooking
If you say ‘shrimp on a campfire’ he will ring your throat until you meet Nayru face to face,
‘I may not know how to cook but I know they’re called prawns.’
-
•–Wind•
-Salt water croc for my salty pirate
Changed from lobster because I personally hate lobsters
Has claws and knows how to use them, preferably on the back of legend’s legs but has learned hooves hurt to take to the face
Has 3rd eyelid to be able to see underwater, so he likes to sleep like that sometimes and creep out whoever is on watch
Wild has attempted to eat him at least twice, both times Twi had to stop the because Wind was also curious
Sky only has two legs? Boo loser, Wind has 4 and a big tail that could snap your spine (it took wind several years to learn how not to trip over and he still can’t walk for long periods of time)
-
•–Wild-
-Lynel… Time is not surprised
In the ‘Not quite horse centaurs’ club with Legend
Honestly thought he was a horse until Flora mentioned ‘no Link, horse’s don’t grow horns out of their head’
Isn’t sure if he’s a gold Lynel or just blond (they’re just blond)
Also has a hint of orange in his blue eyes, eyes that glow red on bloodmoons
Unlike their hair they actually like to style their tail a lot, went they went to Gerudo town he was taught how to braid and bun it but can’t do it on his own so let’s Wind do it when he’s bored
Has small horns that Time had to teach him how to take care of, cause who knew horns need maintenance
Literally no one knows how his glider is able to hold him up… or how he climbs literally anything with ease even with his equestrian limbs
Was also one of the first to use Four’s pronouns correctly as they themselves use all pronouns (likes he/they the most tho)
—- Quick sketch of Wild cause I love them with all my heart
Tumblr media
Anyway, it’s just a poorly thought out Au and I’ll probably work on it more but have this info dump for a second as I try to figure out what I’m doing with my life,
If y’all have any suggestions have at it,
I just hope my ideas aren’t as jumbled as I think they are

The Light’s Downfall - Chapter 1 - The End of the Beginning
[It’s past the 1 year anniversary of this fic, and I’ll be posting chapter 2 tomorrow as well, so I thought I’d finally post chapter 1. Though I guess more importantly it’s the 3 year anniversary of my grandmother’s death tomorrow who in a way got me to write this as a way to cope with the loss. Please let me know if I need to tag anything. I really don't want to upset or trigger anyone accidentally. With that being said, expect this fic to get dark.]
Read it on AO3
Warning(s): Major Character Death of two characters, grief and dealing with the aftermath of death.
The air was nearly suffocating, oppressively heavy as Link made his way up the staircase to the room above, his body still bruised and bloody from the Guardians’ onslaught. The end was in sight, Vaati was within reach, and then this would all be over. He could finally go back to how his life was before this happened. Link could feel his heart beating frantically in his chest as the platform came into view. The wind mage, standing with his arms raised in front of the petrified form of Zelda, smiled as the bell tolled a final time.
“We’re too late,” Link could hear Ezlo’s despair, his own heart stuttering in response to those words.
He gripped the hilt of his sword tightly, knuckles white and shaking. He refused to give up here. He charged at Vaati, Four Sword raised with the intent to kill, only to be blown back into the wall. Vaati laughed, newfound power easily lifting him into the air, as Link was forced to watch his childhood friend crumbled where she had been.
“Now, I can finally dispose of you annoying pests!”
A burst of magic flew towards him, Ezlo squawking loudly as Link rolled out of the way before it made contact. Link glared at the mage, anger and barely contained fear causing him to shake.
“Vaati,” Ezlo’s voice shook, “Please, see reason. This isn’t you, you need to stop this.”
“No, it’s been too long since I’ve felt truly powerful, too long since I discovered what I could truly become. And you, dear teacher, were merely a stepping stone in my path to become who I truly am.”
Vaati’s form wavered, dark magic surrounding him on all sides, obscuring him from view. Link stood on shaky legs, using his sword to support his weight as Ezlo whispered reassurances, though it was obvious that he was just as scared as Link was.
They had lost, there was nothing left for them to do but to wait for the inevitable, but something inside him forced him to keep going, to keep fighting. And as Vaati appeared again, bathed in a glowing purple light, eyes now bright yellow against a shadowed face, magic gathering at his fingertips, Link charged once again. He cried out, in pain and anger as he aimed for Vaati, sword slashing through the air instead of the body of the smug Wind Mage.
“Link, look out!”
He barely registered the weight leaving his head, barely felt the corrupted magic brush at his back. He turned, just in time to witness Ezlo jumping in front of the shot that was meant for him. His breath wavered, watching as his companion screamed in agony, the sound echoing, piercing through his mind, then stopped, falling limp to the floor.
He fell to his knees, reaching out towards his partner, his friend , faint hope that the other was still alive despite the wounds he had suffered. But before he could so much as call out to him, Ezlo crumbled into dust before him, taking what little confidence and hope Link still had with him.
“Such a shame,” Vaati spoke, Link only managing to look up at the slowly approaching mage, “His fate was his own decision, he chose to save you above saving himself. Pitiful really, his sacrifice won’t make a difference.”
Link leaned heavily on the sword still in his grasp, standing once again to face down Vaati, eyes bright with rage and determination.
“This is just sad, you think you can still fight me? Stupid boy, you’ve lost! You’ve doomed your entire kingdom!” Vaati spread his arms, face twisting in malicious glee, “Look around you! I’ve won! There’s nothing left for you now! So just die!”
He blocked the spell hurtling towards him with his blade, it bursting against the holy weapon upon impact. Link refused to give in, he wouldn’t give up without a fight, not after everything he had gone through, everything he had suffered through just to get to this point.
Vaati grew angered, eyes glowing, piercingly bright as the air crackling around him, fingers growing into sharp claws in response. He rushed at Link, slashing at him over and over, each blow being blocked by sword and shield as they backed closer and closer to the edge of the platform.
Link kept his eyes on the mage, staying on the defensive to avoid the corrupted magic from hitting him dead on. Until his foot hit the open air. With a gasp, he fell back, grasping for the edge of the platform desperately as he saw Vaati standing above him, smiling gleefully.
“Seems I’ve won, little hero.”
Link growled, pulling himself up and kicking at Vaati, the mage laughing as he stepped away. Link held out his sword, panting and hoping that he could gather enough strength to finally finish him off. If only it were that easy.
“I grow tired of this game,” Vaati sighed, summoning pitch-black magic into his palm, “Goodbye, Hero of the Four Sword.”
Link watched the spell get closer, raising his blade as though to parry it back at the mage, and with a swing, all he felt was agony. Pain filled his mind, screams tore from his throat until the world finally faded away to black.
====
He could feel the surface below him, cold and hard and uncomfortable. He could hear the familiar calls of birds in the distance, their songs calming and grounding as they continued. He moved his hand, grasping at whatever was underneath him, only to feel coarse dirt below him.
‘Wait, dirt?’
He sat up quickly, eyes snapping open to see a stone wall before him. He was in a cave, at least, he assumed it was a cave with how light drifted in through the tall opening at one side. The birdsong was clear, but as the noise caught up to him, quiet breaths began to reach his ears. The cave was small, shallow, and it seemed that he wasn’t alone here.
“Oh, you’re finally up,” he turned to see a boy dressed in a fiery red tunic, a small almost grin on his face, “I was wondering when you’d join the land of the living.”
He flinched at the word choice, the grimace on the other’s face betraying his actual feelings about the joke. He slowly stood up, taking in his surroundings more to see two other boys leaning against the cave wall. One dressed in ocean blue was looking around lost, eyes unfocused, and staring off into space. The other donning an amethyst tunic had his arms holding his legs close to his chest, face hidden where it was pressed against his knees. He had a feeling they looked the same as he and the red one did like the copies Link could create with the Four Sword.
“What happened?”
“I had an idea, but I don’t know if it makes sense,” the red one spoke, shrugging, “I think Vaati’s magic did something to the Four Sword. We all have identical looking blades now, besides our faces anyway, so it only makes sense.”
“So we’re all Link… that's confusing.”
The red boy laughed, though it sounded unsure, falling and fading quickly.
“I figured, based on the elements we put into the sword anyway, that I’d use the name Blaze,” he gestured to the other two, “the blue one chose Wave while purple over there called himself Terra. He hasn’t spoken since then.”
Worry bloomed in his mind, but it wasn’t the time to deal with that, not yet. Shaking his head, he looked down at himself expecting some sort of appearance change like the other three, only to find nothing. Just the same green tunic he had started the adventure with, dirty and slightly torn up from the fights he had been in. He recalled the elemental stones that he had forged the blade with and it was really quite obvious what name he should choose.
“Call me Breeze.”
With that decided, Breeze motioned for Blaze to follow, trying to figure out just where they were. All that was visible from the front of the cave were trees, tall enough to block most of the sky from view. The clearing was small, but not claustrophobic. Blaze had rushed ahead, looking around quickly until he stopped and turned back, gesturing to the forest around them.
“Let’s try and climb up, maybe we can see further, figure out where exactly we are.”
It was a good idea, and they had been lucky, the trees, while tall, were easy enough to climb. Each branch pulling the two boys up and up, further and further away from the ground. When they had reached the top, gazing at the land around them, all went still, the sounds of nature around them stopping as the two boys took in the sight ahead of them.
They could see Hyrule Town, their home, surrounded by a dark cloud stretching far across the land. The Minish Woods were consumed and not even the peak of Mt. Crenel was visible through it. It was as though all Light had been stripped of the land they had called home, the people they had known, those he had befriended and loved, lost in the darkness. There was nothing left now. Vaati had won.

Spirit Tracks Translation Comparison: The Engineer Ceremony
Tumblr media
This will be a comparison of the original Japanese version and the US English localized version.
Specifically, this will cover the cutscene of Link’s engineer ceremony, as well as the brief scene of meeting Chancellor Cole before it.
You can also watch these scenes for yourself in English and Japanese. If you want, you can check out the EU English version, too.
For the comparison, the usual points apply:
Bolded is the original Japanese text, for the reference.
Bolded and italicized is my translation.
Italicized is the official NOA translation.
A (number) indicates that I have a specific comment to make on that part in the translation notes.
As you read this, please keep in mind that with translations like these, it’s important not to focus on the exact literal wordings, since there is no single “correct answer” when it comes to translations.
Rather than that, consider the actual information that is being conveyed, in which way, and why.
--
Characters in this part who had their name changed between versions:
"Geezer” = “Teacher”, “the minister” = Chancellor Cole (He’s not actually named until later in Japanese.)
--
Meeting the Chancellor:
Guard:
この先は ゼルダ姫さまの 謁見の間である
Princess Zelda's audience hall is up ahead.
The princess's throne room is up these stairs.
Guard:
おまえのような一般の ものは この上に行くことさえ 許されんぞ
Commoners like you aren't even allowed to go up here!
Only invited guests are allowed in.
Guard:
あっちいけ シッシ
Shoo shoo! Get lost!
What that means for you is...GET LOST!
Cole:
なんです! さわがしいですね〜
What is going on here? You are being quite noisy.
What's all the commotion here?
Guard:
これは 大臣!
Oh, Minister!
Oh, good day, Chancellor Cole! Apologies for the disturbance.
Guard:
は! こやつが ゼルダ姫に 用があると申しておりまして!
Sir! This one here claims that he has business with Princess Zelda!
This boy says he's come to see the princess!
Cole:
ほぉ! 今日の任命式の 機関士 見習いですか… まだ子供じゃないですか…
Oho! So, you are the engineer apprentice for the appointment ceremony today...? But you are still a child, no...?  (1)
Is that so? You're here for the graduation ceremony? But you're so young.
Cole:
しかし 各地で線路が消えて 大変だというのに 姫様もこんな 式を行うとは 何を考えてるのか
Honestly though, just what is Her Highness thinking? The disappearing of the tracks everywhere is a serious issue, and yet she holds ceremonies such as this.
What a waste of resources. The Spirit Tracks are vanishing,
yet the princess insists on performing these ridiculous ceremonies.
Cole:
こぞう! 任命式はこの上で行います! ついてきなさい!
Boy! The appointment ceremony will be held upstairs! Follow me!
Well, come along, boy. We must get you to your ceremony! Follow me!
Cole:
ぼ〜っ としてないで そこを おどきなさい!
Stop daydreaming and move aside!  (2)
Don't just stand there drooling, Private! Move aside!
Guard:
は!
Yes, sir!
Yes, sir!
--
Optional dialogue if you speak to the guard again:
Guard:
なんだよ まったく… いばりくさって
Seriously, what the heck... He's so full of himself.
He's so full of himself!
Guard:
いや あの大臣だよ! ゼルダ姫がやさしいから 調子に乗っちゃって
That minister, I tell you! Because Princess Zelda is so nice, he's getting cocky.
Princess Zelda is so nice, she lets the chancellor get away with anything!
Guard:
この国の王にでもなった つもりでいるんじゃないのか!!
I mean who does he think he is?! He’s acting like he’s the king here or something!!
Now he struts around the castle as if he were king!
--
Link’s Ceremony:
Cole:
許しもなく顔を上げるとは… 無礼ですよ 小僧!
Raising your head without permission... That is disrespectful, boy!
Raising your head without permission?
You ill-mannered urchin!
Zelda:
そんなに かしこまらないで下さい…
あなたが 新たに 機関士になる方ですね?
お名前を聞かせて 下さいますか?
Please, there is no need to be so formal...
So, you are the one who will become the new engineer?
Would you please tell me your name?
Don't pay any attention to Chancellor Cole.
You must be the new engineer.
What's your name?
Zelda:
…リンク 素敵な お名前ですね
リンク あなたは…
...Link. What a wonderful name.
Link, you are...
Oh, Link is a wonderful name!
Well, Link, by the power vested in me,
I hereby proclaim you...
Cole:
姫さま ムダな言葉は 必要ありません!
お早く任命式を おすませ下さい
Your Highness, there is no need for these pointless words!
Please do hurry up and finish the ceremony.
We're wasting our time here, Your Highness!
Please just hurry up and finish this foolish ceremony.
Zelda:
…わかりました 大臣
...Very well, Minister.
Very well, Chancellor.
Zelda:
ありがとう ジイ
Thank you, Geezer.  (3)
Thank you, Teacher.
Zelda:
リンク あなたを 我が国の機関士に任命します
この国と民のために 精励される ことを期待しています…
Link, I hereby appoint you as an engineer of our kingdom.
I expect you to work hard for the sake of this kingdom and its people...
I hereby recognize our newest royal engineer...
Link!
Work hard, for we all rely on you, Link.
Text Box:
王家から機関士の 任命書を頂いた!
これで一人前の機関士だ!
You got your engineer's certificate from the royal family!
Now you're a full-fledged engineer!
You got your royal engineer's certificate!
Now you're a full-fledged engineer!
Zelda:
お願いです 今は何も言わないで…
Please, do not say anything right now...
Shh--take this. No! Don't say a word right now.
Zelda:
後で これを読んで下さい 大臣に気づかれないで…
Read this later, and do not let the minister notice...
Read this later...and beware of the chancellor!
Cole:
小僧 いつまで そこにいるつもりですか?
用は すんだのです 早く帰って 大事な汽車でも みがいてなさい
How long do you intend to stand there, boy?
You are done here, so please hurry up and go home, polish your precious train or something.
The ceremony's over, so I suggest you move along.
Why don't you go...polish your train or something.
Cole:
…もっとも…
...Although...
Not that it matters much.
Cole:
すぐ役に たたなく なるんだがな
It's going to be useless soon enough, of course.
The thing will be useless before long...
Translation Notes:
Because of how the Japanese language works, those lines technically could also read as Cole talking about Link rather than to him. Either would probably make sense for him, but I went with the latter.
What I adapted as “daydreaming” here, is ぼ〜っ として/bōttoshite in Japanese, which can refer to “daydreaming”, “spacing out”, and so forth, so the English version’s “drooling” is likely going for something like that, too.
In Japanese, this character is literally called ジイ/Jī, which can be translated as “old man” or “geezer”.
--
Comparisons & Thoughts:
These scenes introduce us to some major characters, so there is a bit more to talk about here.
-
Let’s get a minor thing out of the way first.
In Japanese, the ceremony is called an “appointment ceremony“, while in English it’s called a “graduation ceremony”.
The former does make more sense, as it doesn’t seem like Link had to officially “graduate” in order to be appointed, since Alfonzo just does the final exam with him on the fly while they make their way to Castle Town.
But “graduation ceremony” probably just sounded more natural, plus it saves some text space.
-
Since he appears first, I will go over Chancellor Cole next.
One detail that stands out about him is that he’s a minister in Japanese, not a chancellor. In fact, all other language versions seem to have him as a minister.
If I had to guess, I think this was probably changed so his name would be an alliteration?
He is not the first Zelda character to have the title of minister though, as there was also Minister Potho from The Minish Cap.
So, the English version is technically inconsistent here.
Also interesting is the fact that in Japanese, the minister is not given a name yet at this point.
But I will talk about this more once we are actually told what his name is.
In Japanese, Cole speaks in a manner that is technically formal and “polite”, but of course he also gives off a vibe of looking down on others, given what he actually says.
For my translation, I chose to adapt Cole’s formal way of speaking by having him not use contractions all that often. But keep in mind that this is only one way to adapt this.
Plus, not using contractions is probably not something the English version could’ve pulled off in-game, given how much more text space that would eat up.
The English version’s portrayal of Cole is ever so slightly more openly insulting, slightly less underhanded, but not in a way that deviates too far from the original at this point.
There is a more notable difference with how Cole is characterized between the versions, but it’s one that won’t come across well until later.
We only get an early hint of it during the moment where Cole flashes his smirk at Link, where he briefly talks in a slightly more informal manner.
If the English version was trying to reflect that, it doesn’t really stand out. But it doesn’t stand out much in my translation either, as a lot of these differences are just harder to portray in English.
-
And finally, we have the introduction of Princess Zelda.
In this scene in particular, Zelda comes across as slightly more soft-spoken in Japanese, possibly discouraged by the minister’s presence.
This is something we see from time to time with her, having her be a bit more lively in English, but it’s not always the case.
Similar to Cole, Zelda has a mostly formal, polite speaking style in Japanese, so I decided to adapt it in a similar manner.
But note again that this is just my personal choice, and that there are many ways one may choose to adapt this.
Given Zelda’s very sheltered background, I felt it would make sense to not have her talk like most children her age. And I feel her speaking style in Japanese usually is more formal than other children her age.
Now, some of you may know of a developer quote that mentions how this Zelda was actually specifically designed to be less princess-like and more like a normal girl.
So my writing style for her might seem contradictory to that idea, but I personally don’t think so.
For me, Zelda’s child-like nature is not reflected in the way she speaks, but in what she actually says and how she acts.
She attempts to have a friendly chat with Link during this formal ceremony, she is often quite outspoken about things she doesn’t like, she can even be blunt to the point of being rude, all while being somewhat ignorant about this herself.
Additionally, she will often voice her fears and be self-deprecating in a more direct way, which you don’t often see from the Zelda archetype, who’s supposed to be more of an authority figure.
But on top of that, she can also be quite playful and goofy, of course.
It’s these traits of her that, to me, reflect her nature as just being a normal kid, despite her upbringing.
That explanation was a bit long, but I wanted to make sure no one mistakes my writing of Zelda as an indication that she’s actually a super serious, no-nonsense character, or anything like that.
-
As a whole, I feel like these scenes were “spiced up” a bit more in English than say, the scene at Niko’s house, but they never digress too far from the source material.
To me, the Japanese version does offer a slightly different perspective on the characters, but with a lot of these things it’s more smaller details that add up over the course of the whole game, rather than specific singular examples.
With that said, this is it for this part. Feel free to check out the next one!
