“I don’t understand how you love this kind of weather so much” or “if your hands get cold, you can put them in my pockets” for Levi ! Whichever!
Cold Hands — (Levi Ackerman x Painter!Reader)
i used both in this fic! i hope you enjoy!! Levi and his cold hands...Sigh.
ft. a painter s/o!
i know nothing about paint colors so don’t come at me pls :)
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
The harshness of the cold air made your face scrunch up and you pulled your scarf up over your nose, teeth chattering. You’d been perusing the various different shops in town and had brought your boyfriend along with you. Opting to walk instead of drive, since it was only a few minutes down the street, you squealed in excitement at the anticipation of seeing all the bright lights downtown. This time of year was your favorite—the caroling, the lights, the sheer thought of spending precious time and getting gifts for your loved ones made you happier than anyone could ever imagine.
It was Christmas time, one of your favorite holidays. It also was Levi’s birthday, adding to the specialty of it all. It pulled you back to when you were a child, ooh-ing and ahh-ing at all the scenery. When you’d met Levi, you discovered that he hadn’t had the same experiences as you. He wasn’t too fond of that day, brushing it off as it being just another day that he lived through. You, of course, respected that and gave him the space he’d needed.
Over the years the two of you, sometimes four including Farlan and Isabel, had spent the holidays together. You’d first made him hot chocolate and he was reluctant to try it, but after some gentle persuasion he did. He’d looked so cute with his whipped cream mustache and grumpy expression—so cute that you’d had to take a picture. He wasn’t happy, of course, but he let you keep it anyway.
For memory purposes.
Another time you’d sat in your pajamas while sitting beside your tree (that you’d spent forever setting up) and had on a Santa hat, wishing Levi a Merry Christmas and an even happier birthday. That year was the year you’d gotten him to wear a Santa hat as well. He’d gotten you a brand-new camera and of course you had to snap a picture, which sat in a white picture frame on the mantle of your fireplace.
The clicking of the lock sounded behind you and Levi joined you at the bottom of the steps, hands buried in his jacket pockets. “Let’s go,” he jerked his head in the general direction of the shops. “It’s cold as hell out here.”
You smiled and shot him a wink, holding open the pocket to your jacket. “Y’know Levi,” you said. “If your hands get cold, you can put them in my pockets.”
“Be quiet,” Levi mumbled.
Tumblr media
“Hey Levi,” you called, holding the two different sized tubes out for him to see. “What do you think of these one?”
“They’re the same color,” Came the quiet words from Levi, who was standing behind you and looking at the two different sized tubes in your hand. “I don’t see the difference.”
“Okay look,” you placed the bigger tube between your arm and side to point to the fine print on the smaller one, containing the color in it. “This one’s obsidian, and this one,” you shifted paints. “Is jet black. They’re like slightly different.”
“Why do you need black paint? You have several of those things laying on the fucking floor. Pick one.”
“I need new ones, they’re empty.”
“Oh really? I wonder where the paint could’ve gone,” Levi glared at you, referring to the puddle of dried black paint on the floor in your art room. “Can you just mix one?”
“It has to be perfect. Now pick.”
“Fine. That one,” He pointed towards the bigger tube in your left hand.
“Thank you baby,” you placed the second tube in its place back on the shelf, shifting to browse the collection of blue paints.
Upon realizing that you’d probably be here forever, Levi sighed, staring out the window at the frost on the windows and sheets of snow covering the ground.
“I don’t understand why you love this kind of weather so much,” Levi murmured, resting his chin on your shoulder and slipped his still freezing hands in your pockets. The rest of the time was spent in mostly silence, save for you asking him what he thought of a few colors here and there. Eventually, you’d gathered what you needed and went up to pay, smiling at the cashier when they’d complimented the two of you, saying you were a cute couple.
Levi gave them a death glare the entire time, daring them to say anything about his hands in your pockets.
You snorted and took the bag from the cashier, shooting them a quick “Happy Holidays!” and left the store, holding Levi’s hand in your own while he shoved his in his pocket once more.
Tumblr media
It’d been late into the night when two gentle knocks on the door of your art room snapped you out of your focus. You set your paintbrush down and looked over at the door, smiling softly when your eyes met Levi’s.
“Are you coming to bed?” He questioned, leaning against the frame with his arms crossed. “You’ve been at that all day.”
He missed you.
“Yeah,” you let your hands fall to your thighs which had splatters of black and blue paint all over them, mirroring your hands and even your face. “I’m almost done.”
“What’re you painting?” Levi walked into the room, settling behind you and peeking at your canvas. His arms wrapped around your middle, pulling you back against his chest. He glanced at the splatters of paint that littered the plastic covering of the hardwood floor, choosing to save it for later.
“You.” You sighed, rubbing the back of his clean hand with your dried paint-covered thumb.
Levi’s eyes scanned the painting in front of him, amazed at how much it’d resembled him. You’d gotten everything right—his eyes, his nose, his exact hair color. Hell, even down to the dark bags underneath his eyes.
“This is what you’ve been working on for the past week?” He mumbled into your hair.
“Yeah, it was supposed to be done by your birthday but I coudn’t finish it. D’ya like it?”
“It’s not bad.” Levi commented. “I like it.”
You gave a small sigh of relief. “I’m glad.”
Levi hummed and closed his eyes, thumb flipping the side of your oversized hoodie. It’d been his before the two of you started dating, but you managed to keep sneaking it out of his closet. Levi had only worn it a handful of times since you had been together and that’d only been because you wanted it to smell like him. So technically, it was yours.
He’d slipped his hands in your pockets and you grinned, knowing the reason.
His hands were cold.

Bah Hiddleston | Tom Hiddleston x OFC (Tamra Harmon) | Chapter 7 | Snowball
Tumblr media
Pairing: Tom Hiddleston x OFC (Tamra Harmon)
Summary:  Tamra Harmon has no mind to mess with Christmas. All that talk about Christmas magic and the joy of the holidays is just a bunch of mumbo jumbo. But will a chance encounter with perennial Christmas lover Tom Hiddleston change all that?
This chapter:   Tom makes his feelings know but does Tamra feel the same? And where do they go from here?
Warnings for story: smut, oral sex, implied smut, vaginal sex, light angst
-
As Tom pressed Tamra against him, electric shocks traveled from his lips to his toes. Tamra’s other hand moved to the back on Tom’s head, tangling in his ginger locks along the nape of his neck. He tasted of chocolate and mint. They sighed against each other and parted. Tom panted as he pushed his forehead against hers.
“Um…” Tamra panted as she twirled Tom’s hair in her fingers. “That was…”
“Yeah… ah.. so…” Tom stood up straight, searching her face for a smile, a wink, something to show him she returned his feelings.
“Um… so… you kissed me.” Tamra asked, pushing away to face Tom head on. She stood emotionless, her face a mask of all emotion.
“I did.” Tom flushed as he started to pull away, wringing his hands in front of him.
“Why?” she questioned.
“I did say I was a man of action.” Tamra’s face remained unmoved. The smile dropped from Tom’s face, and he felt a wave of guilt and embarrassment at the whole situation. He clearly read the room wrong. “We can just forget that ever—”
Tamra grabbed him and pulled him into another embrace. He returned the kiss and sighed against her and Tamra followed suit. Tom slipped his tongue in and Tamra moaned in his embrace. Their embrace grew more heated as Tom’s hand slid down from Tamra’s neck, past her shoulders, skimming her curves before lighting on her waist.
“So…” Tom panted as they parted. “You kissed me.” He stood confused.
“Yeah. I did.”
“Why, if I may ask?”
Tamra’s lips curled into a small smile. “You said you like a woman who takes charge. So… I took charge of the situation.” Her hands never left his neck.
His eyebrows rose as his mouth fell open. “I find myself lying awake at thinking about the next time I will see you. I can’t sleep. Hence the dark circles. It’s all your fault.”
Tamra giggled. “Are you blaming me for your lack of sleep?”
“Yes. You don’t know the effect you have on me.”
“And you… like you don’t know how ridiculously charming you are? I still hate Christmas but I can’t help but enjoy our time together.” Tamra huffed.
Tom smiled as he raised a hand to cup her cheek. “You think I’m charming?”
“You know you are. And handsome.”
“You think I’m handsome?” Tom smiled, raising now the other hand to cup Tamra’s other cheek.
“Did I say handsome? I meant incorrigible and ridiculous and… and…” Tamra stammered as her eyes darted around the room, as if searching for an escape.
“Darling…” Tom whispered as he kissed her once again, this time tender. His thumbs ran across her cheeks. Her hands raked through his curls.
“So where do we go from here?” she asked.
Tom opened his mouth, but his stomach growling stopped him from speaking.
“First, we need to eat some dinner. We skipped lunch. Again.”
Tamra rolled her eyes until her stomach growled. She pulled her arms around her midsection, willing her stomach to cease its loud yawing. Tom laughed.
“And then…”
“And then…” he gave a quick peck to her lips. “Whatever we want.
Tom led Tamra to the kitchen where he fished out a small collection of takeaway menus.
“So I was right about not cooking.”
“Guilty as charged. Pick a menu.”
Tamra shook her head. “You pick. I trust you.”
“A horrible choice.”
They spent the rest of the evening eating, watching movies on the couch and snuggling under the blankets. Tom yawned as Tamra clicked the movie.
“It’s late.” she commented about the hour. “You must be exhausted.”
She stood and turned to head to the guest room. Tom grabbed her wrist, preventing her exit.
“Stay with me tonight.”
She looked down at him. Her brow furrowed. “I am staying with you. We’re snowed in. Remember?”
Tom stood to meet her eyes. He released her wrists and laced his fingers with her. “No. I mean stay with me tonight. Not two doors down the hall. Not in the guest room. In my bed, next to me. I need you near me.”
Tamra chewed on her lower lip, considering the proposal. Tom dropped his chin and looked at her through his lashes, his eyes begging and pleading her to say yes. She gave his a hand a squeeze.
“Okay.”
He smiled and kissed her temple. “Thank you.”
Tom led her to the master bedroom, and they ended up buried under blankets and sheets. Tom sat up reading a script for a potential project. Tamra continues to read the book from the night before.
“Tom?” she asked in soft tones. He didn’t respond.
She turned to find him fast asleep, script slipping from his hand, his breath deep and even. Tamra went to his side of the bed and took the glasses from his face, placing them on the nightstand. She followed with the script, keeping his place. Finally, she cradled his head to lower the pillows flat. She brushed an errant curl from his forehead and press her lips to Tom’s forehead.
“Goodnight Tom.”
Tom rolled onto his side as she clicked the lamp off. “Goodnight darling.”
-
Tom awoke the next morning to find himself snuggled against Tamra’s back, arms wrapped around her. Tom hummed and sighed as he enjoyed the weight and warmth against his chest. He felt at peace and for the first time in days, refreshed. His alarm disrupted the blissful moment, and he turned to shut the sound off before it woke Tamra.
With much reluctance, Tom rolled out of bed and dressed for his walk. He fed Bobby and headed out the door after leaving a note in case Tamra woke up before he returned. On his run, his mind raced through everything that transpired over the past several days. He panicked for a moment at what would happen after the holidays ended and Tamra needed to leave but he pushed that troubling thought away for the time being. Tom returned and found Tamra still asleep. He headed to the shower.
-
“Now that is a sight I could get used to in the morning.” Tamra commented as Tom stepped out from the bathroom, his towel slung low on his waist.
Tom chuckled. “I agree 100%.” He leaned to give her a quick kiss on the cheek. “A lovely, beautiful woman in my bed. Smiling up at me. You spoil me.”
Tamra moved so Tom could take a seat next to her.
“What do you want to do? Which museum today?”
Tamra thought about the day ahead. “Why don’t we skip the museums for a day? You pick.”
Tom’s eyes lit up. “I know just the thing but first we need you to get dressed and go by your flat to pick up some clothes for you because you can’t wear my shirt outside.”
“But I make this look good.”
Tom kissed her, pulling her down on top of him. “You do.” he pecked her lips once, twice, three times. “But it is not suitable for snow. Would you settle for a borrowed hat, scarf, and gloves?”
“Fine.” Tamra stood. “Let me get dressed.” She left the room.
“You could use the bathroom in here!” He yelled in the general direction of the hallway.
“But it smells like boy!” a disembodied voice yelled back.
Tom took Bobby out to the backyard to run around in the accumulated snow. Bobby bounded through the thick blanket of white with balls of snow gathering on his fur, making him resemble a pom-pom monster.
“What a mess, boy.” Tom scolded as he brushed as much snow off of Bobby’s coat.
Bobby barked as if in agreement. Tom smiled as he petted Bobby’s back. “What do you think about Tamra? Is she a keeper?”
Bobby barked again and jumped into Tom’s chest, rocking him back and almost off his feet. “Me too, boy. Me too.”
Tom headed into the house and found Tamra standing in the living room, spying out a nearby window.
“A little male bonding time?” she chuckled as Bobby bounded in ahead of Tom, jumping at Tamra’s legs.
“Something like that. He is quite taken with you.”
Tamra knelt down to scratch behind Bobby’s ears. “He is a sweetheart.” Tom’s smile reached his eyes as he looked down at the two of them. “Much like his owner.”
“A high compliment coming from you.” Tom grabbed her jacket. “Come on, let’s go.”
Tamra gave Bobby a final scratch and took off for the door. Bobby gave a whine as Tom and Tamra gave a wave on their way out.
-
They stopped by Tamra’s flat first, so she could change into some fresh clothes and put on the one pair of boots she brought with her. Tom packed her suitcase into the back of the car.
They stopped by for more pastry and coffee and then walked over to the nearby park.
“So what about your family?” Tom asked as they sipped coffee and navigated the icy path.
“What about them?”
“Well, you’re here and they’re not. At Christmas. Surely you are not an entire family of Scrooges.”
Tamra snorted. “No. You and my mother could compete for the Christmas spirit stick. Fully decked out trees, the tree up the day after Halloween. The whole works.” Her nose crinkled in an expression Tom now recognized as a sign of distaste.
“I can’t wait to meet her.” Tom bumped into her shoulder.
“I don’t think I could handle two Buddies in my life. You are bad enough on your own.”
Tom took a big sip of his coffee before taking her hand and leading her around a patch of black ice. “You don’t know what you are missing out on.”
“I’ll take my chances. What about your family? Are they bundles of boundless energy just like you?” She turned to see Tom throw his head back in laughter.
“Hardly. They are normal bundles of energy. And my sisters constantly remind me I am nothing special.”
He gave her hand a squeeze as they finished up their coffee. Tom grabbed Tamra empty cup and walked to a nearby trash can.
“Sounds like my kind of girls.”
“You are never meeting them. I would never survive the onslaught.” Tom commented over his shoulder.
He noticed Tamra’s back turned to watch a group of kids have a snowball fight. His eyes twinkled as his gaze darted to the fresh snow in front of him.
Splat!
“EEEK!” Tamra squealed as a snowball hit her square in the back. She whipped around to find Tom bent over in a fit of laughter.
He didn’t see the snowball until it landed on his shoulder, exploding into shards of white.
“Hey!” Tom’s eyes narrowed as he shot off towards Tamra. “You’ll pay for that!”
“Only if you catch me!” Tamra ran as Tom barreled towards her.
They both made hasty snowballs as they ran towards the center of the park. Their throws going wide as they continue chase, Tamra lobbing snowballs over her shoulder.
Tom’s running background comes into play and his long stride helped as he gained on Tamra.
“Gotcha!” he triumphed when he made it within arm’s reach of Tamra.
His fingers grazed her sleeve, and he gained purchase on Tamra’s wrist. He whipped his arm to snap Tamra back towards him. She pivoted to face him but her momentum sent her straight into Tom’s chest.
“Aah!” Tamra clambered as she and Tom tumbled into a deep bank of snow.
“Oof.” Tom’s breath left him as Tamra landed on top of him. His hands shot out to steady her. “Got you.”
Tamra smiled down at him and Tom brushed her now snow soaked hair out of her face to gaze into her hazel eyes.
“Truce?” he asked not letting up on his grip on her.
She leaned down and kissed him. He used his grip to pull her closer, not caring if anyone saw or that his coat soaked with snow. They parted. “Truce.”
Tamra pushed herself to standing and offered her hand to Tom. He took it and stood. Tamra wrapped her arms around Tom.
“Tom?”
“Yes, darling.” Tom wrapped his arm around her waist.
“Have I ever told you…” she paused to look down at her boots. “… that I lie?”
Tom’s eyes widened as Tamra’s face grew into an evil smile and she shoved a hidden handful of snow down his shirt.
“OOoo!!” Tom jumped at the cold wet running down his back. His blue eyes flashed at Tamra and she took off running. “Never trick the trickster!”
“Loki can’t save you now!”
The two of them continued taunting and throwing snowballs until both of them were soaked to the bone and out of breath. They returned to the car, blasting the heat on the way back to Tom’s place.
“Brrr.” Tom exclaimed as he peeled his jacket off and then his sweater and shirt. “You fight dirty.”
Tamra stared as Tom stood shirtless and her pulse raced. “So do you.”
Tom took a step forward. Tamra shivered at the proximity of him. “You’re shivering.” He raised his hands to rub up and down her arms.
“Not helping.”
A whisper of a smile tugged at the corners of his mouth. “Does this help?” He tugged her into his chest.
His warmth bled through Tamra’s thin sweater. Her heart raced, and she felt Tom’s race and he pulled her into a passionate kiss. He huffed as he nipped at her lips. Tamra moaned against him. Their chests heaved as Tom pulled away, his bated breath fanning across her cheek.
“Better?” Tom whispered.
“A little.” Tamra whispered back. She stared into Tom’s eyes, his pupils blown and his lips hungry.
“How about a hot shower?” his intention clear by his tone.
She nodded. “Sounds… nice.”
Tom smiled as he kissed her again, more heated and more urgent. He led her towards the master bedroom, unaware of the notifications going off on his phone in his discarded jacket.

some chub Mika.n and Gund.am for a trade
[[MORE]]
Mikan was more than relieved when her shift at the hospital ended, she was terrified of running into someone she knew back from Hope’s Peak whenever she worked. It especially didn’t help that she tended to work when the hospital was at its busiest. It was her worst nightmare she would stumble into Hiyoko again after all these years, the dancer would surely subject her to an all too familiar round of bullying.
It wasn’t like Mikan intended for it to happen! She blamed all the budget cuts towards the hospital, which meant fewer staff, leading to herself and the others have to take on extra duties. Mikan originally wouldn’t have minded, she loved her job! She liked taking blood samples, x-rays, doing ultrasounds, CTs, and many other duties that came along with her job. Seeing as she was an ultimate she was a bit of a jack of all trades in her medical field, so it only seemed right she takes on the bulk of the duties (that and she was a pushover) to help through these hard times.
However, spending so much time on her feet and working long hours left little time for meal prep. She was simply too sore and tired to cook, so she often ate out or relied on frozen dinners... not to mention Mikan developed a habit of snacking on candy while at home. It was just easier to than preparing an actual meal! Not to mention the her coworkers and grateful patients would often bring in pizza and baked goods for the hospital staff. And with not knowing if you have enough time to microwave some leftovers because you could have to treat the victims of a car accident, you learned to eat when you can and fast.
But of course, the long term effects of a poor diet eventually started to show. Mikan had no idea how the other hospital staff managed to stay so skinny! Meanwhile, she had ballooned out like crazy. Oh, the world must hate her so for giving her such an awful metabolism! She was on her feet all day constantly running samples to the lab, shouldn’t that had burned off all the cupcakes and pizza she had at work?
Judging by her plump figure with a pair of thunder thighs that rubbed together uncontrollably with each step she took (hence why she started wearing leggings to avoid the infamous chub rub), a taut little tummy that especially liked to make its presence known after a big meal or junk food binge in the break room, and had resulted in a few ‘when are you due?’ from her coworkers and patients. The sleeves of her uniform felt so tight from how chunky her arms were, Mikan absolutely hated the idea of having to get a bigger uniform but they felt so uncomfortable. Then there was her face, that second chin was developing steadily and her cheeks had rounded out, making her resemble a hamster with cheeks stuffed to the brim with sunflower seeds.
“Oh, come on.” Mikan groaned, attempting and failing miserably at hailing down a taxi to return home. Of all the days she had to forget her bus pass it was when the weather forecast called for rain! “O-oh, excuse me! Over-“ she was cut off when the taxi she was trying to get zoomed passed her and straight through a puddle, drenching her in dirty rainwater. “here...” she finished all too late.
Her heart raced anxiously as she shivered, how was she going to get home? It was her day off tomorrow and she originally wanted to curl up in bed and take it easy. Mikan sniffled, blinking back tears. What she wouldn’t give for a hot bath right now, or better yet, be magically transported to a warmer place with a comfortable bed with plenty of fluffy blankets. But unfortunately, that wasn’t going to happen, she was stuck in the cold rain trying to desperately get a taxi to notice her.
“Ah, wait!” Mikan cried out, deciding to run towards the car despite seeing one of the passenger doors shut, signalling it was occupied. “C-could we please share? I’m sorry I smell like a wet dog, bu-but I just want to go home! I-I’ll pay for both our fares and-“ She stopped, eyes wide as the passenger window rolled down. Oh no...
It wasn’t the infamous Hiyoko like Mikan feared she would run into one day, but that was only a step below the worst-case scenario, the passenger was still someone she went to school with. She could recognize that scarf and scar tattoo anywhere, it was the ultimate breeder, Gundam Tanaka.
“My, my, Mikan Tsumiki... the ultimate cleric of healing,” he spoke, his gaze locked onto her. “You wish to partake in a journey with me through these unforgiving realms?”
“I-if it’s not too much trouble.” Mikan twirled a choppy lock of hair around her finger anxiously. Sure Mikan always feared running into someone she knew since her weight gain, but staying out in the rain wasn’t an ideal either. And Gundam was never one of her bullies, so surely he wouldn’t point out what a blob she had become.
“Heh, but of course not! It is always an honour to travel with someone of your capabilities.” he grinned. “Now, enter this gateway through this cursed realm!”
Mikan nodded and immediately yanked the taxi door open so hard she nearly fell backwards. She wasted not a single second getting into the cab and out of the cold rain. It wasn’t until she shut the car door and buckled up did she finally get a good look at Gundam after all these years.
At first, his scarf concealed it, but the breeder was sporting a full-on double chin. But that wasn’t all, he took up a big chunk of the cab, leaving barely enough room for the portly nurse. Mikan was practically a twig compared to him. The cab driver up front had his seat as close to the wheel as possible to make room for just how large Gundam was. His gut sat comfortably on top of his pillar-like thighs, nearly obscuring them completely from her view. He was as wide as he was tall, wider even! An absolute blob of a man! Could he even walk?
“It’s been quite a few years, oh great healer,” Gundam said.
“Y-yeah, indeed it has.” Mikan tried not to stare.
“What quests have you been undertaking since our departure from the realm of knowledge?”
“I...been working at the hospital.”
“Working at such an advance castle! You must be quite proud of the healing abilities you possess, I must admit I am rather envious.”
A smile touched her face, even after all these years, she could still understand Gundam and his eccentric manner of speech enough to know he was praising her! Her insides became all warm and fuzzy at his words, it’s been so long since someone actually complimented her abilities as a nurse! Being in the medical field she felt often overworked and under-appreciated.
“Thank- ACHOO!” Mikan sneezed directly into her elbow.
“Hmph, it would appear the storm gods decided to curse you.” Gundam’s thin lips straighten as he unravelled his scarf and offered it to Mikan.
“I couldn’t possibly-“
“There is no need to fear, this garment will not hurt powerful beings such as you and I.” he reassured.
Mikan hesitated for a moment but in the end, accepted the scarf and wrapped it around her. Wow! She didn’t expect it to be so warm and soft!
“We must remove this curse immediately,” Gundam spoke, crossing his fat arms. “Gatekeeper of the realms, take us to the sanctuary immediately!” he ordered at the taxi driver, who remained completely unfazed by his orders. Mikan guessed Gundam took taxis a lot so he must be a known regular.
The drive wasn’t a long one, she guessed ten minutes at the most. The taxi parked in front of what looked like a restaurant establishment.
“Oh... I don’t have enough money on me to eat out and pay for a ride,” she confessed, originally she intended to do up some instant ramen when she got home. “ I’m so SO sorry!”
“I assure you, I have more than enough wealth,” he said, opening the door.
They both unbuckled and exited the car... well one of them did.
“Gundam, are you...” she trailed off, averting her eyes awkwardly.
“This but a mere part of my journey, nothing to dwell over.”
Mikan would beg to differ, but she kept her mouth shut as she tried not to watch Gundam struggle to get out of the taxi, his blubbery body kept him stuck tightly within the car door frame.
“Do...do you need any help?” she asked, feeling her cheeks turn red at the sight.
“Your concern is thoughtful but unneeded, I have faced this trial many times!” Gundam reassured with such confidence for someone who was trying to squirm their way out of a car.
Mikan just stood there and twiddled her thumbs awkwardly as Gundam struggled, she tried not to stare but she always found her eyes would end up lingering on him with every jiggle and bounce of his fatty frame. It was almost comical when he managed to finally get out, Mikan could have sworn she heard an almost cartoony pop, but she didn’t know if that was in real life or in her mind.
“Now, onward!” Gundam commanded and waddled on ahead with Mikan following from behind, trying her hardest not to stare at his massive rump that sagged behind him.
The inside of the building revealed it was an all-day breakfast buffet. Mikan’s mouth watered instantly at the sight of waffles, bacon, sausages, breakfast pastries, eggs and countless fruit varieties.
“Well, I accept all forms of power sources, this one I find I tend to desire the most,” Gundam said as they got a table to set their stuff down. “And it burns deeply with enough dragon fire to help you fully recover from your curse.”
“It is rather to-toasty in here.” Mikan took off Gundam’s scarf, carefully folding it and set it aside.
“Now, let us engage in supply our forms with the healing prophecies from this sanctuary of recovery!” Gundam announced, squeezing himself out of the booth and shuffling to the array of food.
The combination of sweet and savoury smells was hypnotic to Mikan, she lost interest in watching Gundam and wasted no time grabbing a plate and getting her food. Two fluffy blueberry pancakes, six rashers of crispy bacon, four juicy pork sausages and a bowl of fruit.
The irony was not lost on her, Mikan was a nurse. And when most people thought of doctors and nurses they were normally under the impression that they ate extremely healthy. But that was the furthermost from the truth, incredibly their diet consisted of takeout and instant meals. But Mikan supposed the only difference between her and them was an awful metabolism.
After getting a tall glass of orange juice, she returned to the booth. Hopefully, Gundam wouldn’t think she was gross for eating so much, but she had such a long day and-
Her eyes went wide as Gundam set not one, not two, but three plates on the table. One piled high with fried ham, sausages and bacon, another with a stack of buttermilk pancakes that towered high, and the last one dangerously close to overflowing with fried eggs. He drenched everything in a thick layer of butter and drowned it all in enough maple syrup to fill the ocean.
“Now,” he began as he unfolded the napkin to tie around his thick neck. “let the healing ritual begin!”
They both tucked into their meals, the food tasted just as good as it smelled, better even! It immediately warmed Mikan up both inside and out and have it not been for the sound of the downpour outside, she would have completely forgotten about the rain.
“So, um... what have you been up too after graduating?” Mikan asked as she chewed on a chunk of juicy honeydew. Figuring she should try and start a conversation with him.
“I have been expanding my empire of course!” he answered, licking the runny yolk off his lips. “With so many wild and dangerous beasts in the world, my job is far from over and will probably be eternal for as long as I am in this vessel.”
“Ah, glad to know you’re still t-taking good care of animals.” Mikan smiled. “I’ve known how much you care for them.” she nibbled on a piece of bacon. “M-maybe I should get a pet... it gets kinda lonely in my apartment.”
“Be warned, beast ownership is no small task!” he warned sternly.
“O-of course!” she stuttered. “I know it’s not a decision to take lightly! I uh, promise to really think about it and-“
“Please, crease your worrying.” Gundam interrupted. “I must apologize, tis a bit of a curse I have yet to control. I have seen many attempts the quest of taming these creatures but failed and I had to carry on their failed attempt. It is no easy task and required so much of my time and energy. I need to remember you are no mere mortal considering your ability.”
“A...apology accepted.” she gave a small smile.
“Speaking of your abilities, how is your life in this realm?” he asked through a mouthful of sticky syrup covered pancakes.
“I work at the hospital not too far from here,” she said. “we’re rather understaffed at the moment, so I’ve been busy. I don’t mind... kinda.” Mikan sipped her drink. “Umm... it’s just it doesn’t leave much time for anything else if I’m completely honest. I just go straight home after a shift.”
“Ha, I too understand your endless suffering,” he spoke. “We’re in Nemean lion season, I have been summoned to offer my power and influence to try and get through this challenge.”
Nemean lion? Weren’t those some kind of mythical creature? It took a moment to figure out what he was going on about, then it clicked. Gundam was taking about kitten season. The time when most kittens were born to unsprayed cats whether they were outdoor cats (which was a big no according to Gundam) or feral cats. Naturally, this meant a lot more resources being needed from shelters and whatnot.
“You must be busy too, I haven’t been able to cook in awhile unless it’s instant,” she spoke, idly dragging the chunk of blueberry pancakes she speared with her fork through a puddle of syrup. “Probably why I’ve gained weight.”
She said it without even thinking, at first she felt guilty. Gundam has gained so much more than her, would it make him self conscious? But when he chuckled she internally let out a sigh of relief.
“I too understand the circumstances your form is going through,” Gundam said. “I have found myself in a similar position as you.”
“Oh... I hardly notice.” Mikan lied.
“Mikan, you are many things,” he began. “a skilled healer, a dear companion who I regretfully lost contact with, but you were never a good liar.”
“Sorry!” she instinctively blurted out.
“Do not dwell on it, there is nothing worthy of begging for my forgiveness currently,” Gundam reassured. “I am content with my current form, you don’t need to fret so much.”
“Ah... thank you!” Mikan spoke. “Umm, if it means anything. I think you carry it well.”
Eep! Was it weird to say that?! Did it sound too forced? It was true though! Gundam just reminded her of one of those giant stuffed teddy bears at toy stores. He looked so soft just like one, and not to mention he probably felt like one too.
“You as well,” Gundam replied.
Her cheeks flushed a soft pink as she immediately shifted her gaze from Gundam to her plate. Did Gundam see her as one of those giant teddy bears too? She only hoped her blush would eventually fade. All these years and she still wasn’t used to compliments.
As soon as they are their fill and made a few trips back to the buffet, they were comfortably full. And not only that, the rain had stopped.
“It would appear the gods had let their grip on this realm go at long last,” Gundam spoke as they exited the restaurant.
“Yeah, it’s ni-nice and warm,” Mikan said, taking a moment to soak up the warm sunshine.
“Shall we find a gatekeeper and travel back to our kingdoms together?”
“Actually... my place isn’t too far from here.” Mikan began. “It’s not you! I promise! I-I just want to enjoy the sun after all this ra-“
“You don’t need to justify enjoying this enchanted moment if I had a sufficient amount of mana I would have too.” he smiled. “However, I lost contact with you once and I rather not have this be the last time fate has us cross paths. May I offer you a way to summon me?”
“You’re phone number? Sure... I... I would love to see you again.” she smiled as Gundam scribbled his phone number on a scrap of paper.
“I think you are worthy enough to see the newest descendants from the four dark devas of destruction’s family line,” he said.
“I would love to see them.”
“Indeed, perhaps you are worthy enough to take on the quest of owning one?”
Mikan’s eyes lit up. “You...you want to give me one of them?”
“Only if I and the latest generations of the four dark devas think so!” Gundam stated. “It would involve a long series of riddles and gazing into the deepest depths of your mind to see if you are truly ready for such a task.”
“I’m free tomorrow if that works?”
“And the stars perfectly aline.” he grinned, handing her a scrap of paper with his number written down.
“May-maybe we could grab a coffee and work out the details?”
“Very well then, I accept your offer!” Gundam grinned before finally managing to get a taxi. “I look forward to it and any other future endeavours!” he called as the car drove off.
Mikan couldn’t help but smile as she looked down at the paper in her pudgy fingers. She got a number, she actually got a number and something to do on her day off! Her grin grew as she began the walk to her apartment, basking in the warm sunlight.
