#like ahsoka was considered young. Dooku was what 16 when he became one? Obi-Wan was 25 and knighted earlier than planned

I think the 'the jedi use child soldiers' thing is stupid for a lot of reasons, but among those is that this is a complete misunderstanding of how children's media works. Kids want to see themselves doing amazing things and giving that an in depth analysis that boils down to 'all these adults are evil' is poor, bad faith, media criticism.
That being said, if you compare Star Wars to just about any other YA work, the jedi are miles better as far as child care goes. Canonly every single one of these 'kids in danger' has a dedicated adult who is ideally supposed to be with them to teach and protect them. Very uncommon for the genre.
So if people are mad at the jedi for this, I can't fathom what their reaction to other YA literature is. And if they hate YA literature, idk, maybe they shouldn't be reading YA. Just a thought.

Hey, so I was reading you're take into the Jedi "career", and I was thinking: wasn't Obi-Wan almost taken into the AgriCorps because he hadn't been chosen as a padawan and was nearing an age that would make him too old to become one? I'm asking because I genuinely cannot tell if I read too much fanfic and mixing things up.
Hi!  I’m not sure precisely which post you’re referring to, since I talk a lot about the Jedi (HA HA oh understatement) so I can’t be 100% sure of the context, but most of my talking is based on canon, where the AgriCorps do not exist and the Jedi don’t seem to age out at all.The aging out/Jedi Corps thing originated in the Jedi Apprentice novels (though, they popped up here and there in other Legends materials, I think), which was written back in 1999, when they only had The Phantom Menace to go on, so a lot of the worldbuilding was based on an incomplete prequels era.So, you’re not making it up, that was an element of Legends material, but it hasn’t happened in canon and seems unlikely to, since have Jedi younglings who were 16 and not yet Padawans (from Dooku: Jedi Lost), indicating that they’d have to wait awhile longer/another year, without any indication of aging out being a thing. Also, in general, Ahsoka (14) and Caleb Dume (13) were made Padawans at those ages and were said to be considered too young for it normally.  Master & Apprentice has said that Obi-Wan became Qui-Gon’s apprentice at 13, but makes no mention of the Service Corps, as well as Qui-Gon says that the Jedi apprenticeships usually began mid-adolescence, which is probably closer to 16-17.But, no, the Obi-Wan of George Lucas’ SW (the first six movies + TCW) or of Lucasfilms SW (movies + TCW + Rebels + Mandalorian + all post-2014 material) never went through that.  People are absolutely free to mix the two together, if they like!  It doesn’t really matter what someone enjoys, so long as they enjoy it and it works for them!  But if we’re speaking strictly of canon, then that’s a separate continuity from canon.
