Garden Maintenance (Final Rose)
Diana raised her weapon and glared. "Today is the day you go down!"
Averia raised her own weapon and glared back. "You're still way too tiny to beat me, twerp."
Fang took a sip of her lemonade and leaned back in her chair. "That's right, kids. Fight for the glory and honour of being the champion of gardening day."
Diana cleared her throat.
"Ah. Right. The Ultra Mega Supreme Super Infinite Champion of Gardening Day." Fang raised an eyebrow at Diana. "You don't think that's a little bit redundant?"
The little girl shook her head. "It only makes it more awesome." She brandished her rake. "Now, prepare to be defeated, villain!"
"You know," Averia pointed out. "You're the one threatening me with a rake. If anything that makes you the villain."
"I can't be the villain. I'm too small and adorable to be the villain. You're way bigger, and your glare is heaps scarier, so that makes you the villain."
Averia glared.
"You're not exactly proving her wrong," Fang drawled.
Averia glared again.
"Yeah. No. Your mother glares at me all the time. She's scary. You? It's like watching a puppy try to imitate a wolf."
Averia glared yet again but with even greater power.
"Try again in... ten, no, twenty years, and maybe I'll be worried."
Averia prepared to glare even harder, but Diana seized the opportunity to strike.
"Cool! I get a free attack! Hah!"
In a great display of honour and mercy, Diana aimed her rake at Averia's side instead of going for the head. Truly, she was a benevolent child.
Alas, in an even great display of agility, Averia somehow managed to bend backward in time to avoid the strike completely. Diana gaped in disbelief as her strike missed and her overextension left her fully exposed to Averia's counter attack.
The older girl righted herself and smiled, and her rake came swinging down.
"Ah!" Diana dropped her rake and raised her hands. "Don't pick on me!"
A lifetime (albeit only nine years of life so far) of instinct compelled Averia to pull her strike... which allowed Diana to pick up her rake and whack Averia in the leg.
"Hah!" Diana cheered. "I hit you first! I win! I am the Ultra Mega Supreme Super Infinite Champion of..." She trailed off as a terrifying chill crept down her spine.
"You little twerp," Averia growled, rake raised menacingly. "Prepare to be whacked!"
Diana took one look at her sister's expression and decided to run for it.
"Ah!"
Fang sipped on more lemonade and smiled as her two children ran around the front yard.
"Could you three stop fooling around!" Lightning said.
Fang, Diana, and Averia all froze.
"We're supposed to be tidying up the garden!" Lightning glared, and even Fang recoiled. "Stop fooling around and get to work!"

Skyward Sword Zonai AU!
The Dragon Spirits! It was very fun seeing how I’d combine the look of the dragons from Skyward Sword and Tears of The Kingdom, they are so different.
They’d be a little confusing in this au, since their elements don’t line up perfectly in between games. Ignore the notes of the first slide, I was trying to figure out how Lanayru and Faron would work with their regions basically being opposite!
Lanayru would be the spirit of Wisdom with the element of water. She is a strict teacher and does not tolerate ignorance or laziness, so it’s a bit of bad luck for Link to come across her first in his journey at the Lanayru Great Spring.
Eldin would be the spirit of Power with the element of fire. They’d seem laid back at first until it becomes clear that they are simply uncaring for mortal lives that mean so little to them, only respecting those that stand out among the crowd.
Faron would be the spirit of Courage with the element of lightning. Once guardian of a vast jungle, his domain was the first to be destroyed in the initial war against Demise, as his love of mortals led them to congregate there in the lush land and invent amazing technology with electricity. He is deeply kind and grandfatherly, carrying with him a sadness for all that has been lost.
Levias would be the last spirit, that of Hylia and the element of wind. He is calm and jovial, content to let the bustle or mortals pass him by. While not a dragon himself, Levias would still be powerful enough to produce a Secret Stone like the dragons, granting Link the power to confront Demise.

Is there any au specific info about the golden goddess’s or hylia and demise (I really like your btw)
I got stuff the golden goddesses’ dragon counterparts hope that’s ok
With Dinnral, the gorons and rito view her very highly.
The Gorons refer to her as Mother Earth, as their legends spoke of her creating the land of Hyrule. Before she finished her job, she shed tears on the ground of Death Mountain, and the first Gorons emerged from the ground.
With the Rito, she is the spirit of wind who granted the Rito the ability to fly. The legend goes that a courageous young Rito must climb her and extract a scale off her body, granting Rito the ability to fly.
Farosh is viewed very differently by Gerudo, Southern Hylians, and Minish
The Gerudo see her as a symbol of strength; in many of their illustrations, her appearance takes the form of lightning. This is because Farosh is a speedy dragon, and none of the Gerudo have ever seen her up close. The legends go that Farosh blesses future leaders with her ability to cast lightning like Farosh. Her horn is also a symbol of power.
South Hylians perceive Farosh as a terrifying creature, far more terrifying than any monster. In their legends, it is said that Farosh stalks the jungle in the dead of night, causing fright for anyone who dares to dwell deep into the jungle. Only her piercing red eyes are seen. South Hylians don’t like swimming in deep water lakes as Farosh could be taking a swim, making the water unsafe. These stories are told to children to stay away from Faron's dense jungle and rivers.
Finally, the Minish has a strong connection to Farosh; the legends speak of her as she once took the form of a Minish before transforming into a dragon. It is said she is the root of all forest magic of Hyrule, along with the creation of the Monsters that live across Hyrule. The Minish see her as the source of life and magic.
Now Nayrda is viewed only by Zoras (maybe Hylians also).
Naydra is a symbol of elegance and royalty to the Zora. Legend says that Zoras viewed her as a monarch and followed her wherever she went (Like on rivers or the ocean). Eventually, the Zoras created their monarchy and viewed Naydra as a divine being. Even encountering her, the Zora considers it a fortune coming your way.
Hylians, aside from the Hylians in the south, don't really view these dragons as nothing but mythical beings. However, they listen to the legends the other races have of the dragons and go and explore to see them for themselves. Many omit the Hylians to do so, especially when the dragons inhabit places that are either hard to reach or an increase of monsters in that area.

The unspoken importance given to Farosh is driving me insane lol
The Hyrule compendium says Farosh is the “spirit of lightning” and that it “serves the Spring of Courage since ancient times”, it’s body being able to “cause lightning storms”.
Farosh can be found in both the surface and the depths, circling the Faron grasslands and the Gerudo desert.
There is the Dracozu lake, that gives into the spring of Courage and where you can find a piece of the charged outfit, that Rauru wears and that gives lightning powers to its wearer during thunderstorms, being obviously inspired by Farosh and “used in ancient rituals”. Link can also get the two other dragon outfits, but the charged outfit is the only that is given that much importance, through the quest with Tauro.
In the depths, behind the Wellspring of Courage’s waterfall, there is the Dracozu altar (the other two wellsprings don’t have altars), and just above, in the skies, you can find the Dragonhead island, which was hidden by a huge thunderstorm.
Then, there is the courage island, also shaped like a dragon, right above the Thundra plateau, where there is almost always a thunderstorm.
The two other challenge islands are the valor island and the bravery island, still dragon shaped and not wisdom and power themed at all (?).
The Zonai seemed to have their own equivalent of the triforce, kinda, with the imagery of the boar (power), the owl (wisdom), and the dragon (courage), and they seemed to give Farosh/courage/the figure of the dragon a great deal of importance as well (in the Typhlo ruins, the Thundra plateau etc etc).
The Zonai are also very obviously dragon people (most likely inspired by the Kirin, a chimerical creature from Chinese and Japanese mythology), and they’re the bearers of the secret stones, that can transform their wearers into, well, legit dragons.
So a part of me wonders if there is a link between Urbosa and Riju’s lightning powers and Farosh’s… And well, maybe the low-key Gerudo looking Ancient hero (eight heroine?) has something to do with it.
The south-west corner of the map, in the Gerudo desert, is also called the “dragon’s exile”, and right underneath, in the depths, you can find the huge dark skeleton.

Thunder in the Night
1418 words, no warnings aside from a minor panic attack
AO3
Reblogs > likes!
Twilight lay on his pile of blankets, listening to the sound of the rain. His brothers were all asleep aside from Wild, who stood guard, his cloak protecting him from the rain and his bow held loosely in his hand.
The Faron woods of Wild’s Hyrule was a dense, humid jungle, full of fruit and packed with dangerous monsters. It never seemed to stop raining as well, and finding a dry place for the group to rest hadn’t been easy. Thankfully, they’d found a cave to bunker down in for the night.
He didn’t know how much time had passed. It seemed that none had at all. The only difference in the night was the sound of the rain against waxy leaves growing louder.
A sound reached the edge of his hearing, and he furrowed his brow faintly. That… that had sounded like thunder… he couldn’t be sure though… and with his hearing being much better than any of his brothers, he couldn’t ask any of them. In that case… he’d just have to hope the sound stayed far away. He rolled over, putting his back to the cave entrance.
Another distant roll of thunder reached his ears, and he felt like bristling. Anxiety started welling up in him. That sound of thunder was a lot closer. The sound was getting closer. Danger. He sighed, shifting and curling up a little. The sound was still far off. The storm could maybe just pass. He’d be fine. Fine.
All was quiet for a long moment, and he started to relax. Then a tremendous clap of thunder shattered the air. He was up in a blink, scrambling back on all fours, his teeth bared and his hair standing on end. His heart pounded through his body and adrenaline coursed through him.
He vaguely heard the others calling out in drowsy confusion, but he couldn’t understand any of the words they were saying. Now he was frozen, his back pressed to the back of the cave wall, his body trembling. That sound– that sound–
Another crack split the air, heralded only by the briefest flash of light, and Twilight let out a thin whine, pressing himself back against the wall harder and covering his ears. His chest felt so tight- he had to force each breath out. He could barely manage to suck in each short gasp.
A third clap of thunder vibrated through him, and that was it. He couldn’t breathe. All he could see was a blur of movement. All he could hear was muffled voices, and the overpowering pounding of his heart. He was completely frozen.
A gentle hand touched his shoulder, and he flinched hard, baring his teeth again. His vision flickered, everything lighting up as lightning erupted through the night. Thunder crashed, shaking the cave.
Twilight felt everything tilt, and then he was slumped against something warm. A moment ago, everything had been tight, now he was limp, completely vulnerable. He trembled, unable to cover his ears anymore. Sounds were still muffled aside from his furiously beating heart, but he thought he could hear someone talking.
He was wrapped in a gentle embrace, someone rubbing his back and talking to him in a warm, reassuring voice. That… that was Time.
“It’s alright… I’ve got you… try and breathe. You’re safe.” he was saying, his voice steady and calm.
Twilight's mind snapped onto that voice, fixating on the words as he huddled closer into Time’s arms. Breathe… try and breathe… he managed a short gasp, shivers racing across his skin. Another clap of thunder sounded, and he jerked, his fingers twisting into Time’s shirt, his breathing stuttering to a halt.
“It’s alright son, I’ve got you. Just keep breathing. You’re safe.” Time said, his deep voice reassuring but firm. Twilight managed another short gasp.
Someone else knelt down next to them. Twilight couldn’t see who it was, but from the sound of his voice, it was the Captain.
“I’ve gotten Sky and Wind settled. Need any help here?” he was saying.
“If you could fetch a blanket for me, that would be helpful. Thank you,” Time said. Twilight stared vaguely at the cave entrance, the conversation floating through his mind as he tried to force himself to breathe again.
A moment later, and he felt Time wrapping a warm blanket around him. Instinctively, he curled up, resting his head against Time’s chest as he was bundled up. Then the older man hugged him again, holding him close. Twilight could hear his heartbeat, the steady thrumming something familiar and comforting.
Minutes trickled by, occasionally broken by a clap of thunder. Twilight flinched each time the sound rolled over him, but he still found himself breathing easier. His heartbeat slowed, matching the steady beating of Time’s heart. He found himself relaxing limply into the embrace, snuggling up into the close wrappings of the blanket. He would have thought the closeness would suffocate him… but it made breathing easier in the end. He felt safe…
Slowly, the sound of the thunder began to fade. Relief crashed through Twilight as the crashing sounds got quieter, fading to the distance and replaced with the sound of rain.
Wild made his way into the cave, throwing off the hood of his cloak and shaking water droplets from his long hair.
“Sorry about that guys. I saw a lightning wizrobe, it got a bit close for liking. I thought I could take it down quick enough, but it got a storm summon in before I could hit it.” he said, glancing around apologetically.
“It’s alright. You did your best. That’s all anyone can ask.” Sky said gently. He and Wind were huddled up under Wars scarf, hugging each other. The other group members were looking varying levels of exhausted and worried.
“We shouldn’t be bothered by anything else tonight… but I’ll go back to my watch.” Wild said, still looking guiltily around. Time nodded slightly.
“Take care of yourself, and don’t stay up all night.” he said. Wild nodded, pulling up his hood again before taking his place at the cave entrance. The others started settling down again, everyone scooted a little closer together than before.
Twilight stayed with Time, still wrapped up in the blanket. Now that the panic was over, he felt shame washing through him. He should have been stronger… and after all the lessons on courage he’d had throughout his journey, the moment he’d heard a loud sound he’d turned right back into that frightened pup. He should have held himself together better…
“Are you doing alright?” Time asked gently. Twilight blinked, his jaw tightening slightly. He tried to say something along the lines of ‘yes, I’m alright. Thank you,’ but the only sound he made was a faint groan. Golden Goddesses I can at least pull myself together enough to talk… he thought furiously at himself.
“It’s okay if you’re not. I don’t mind if you stay next to me the rest of the night,” Time said reassuringly.
“I- I’m okay…” Twilight finally whispered. He’d been through so much, seen so many horrors- he didn’t even know why he’d reacted that poorly to the thunder. It had just… happened.
“Alright. I just wanted to make sure. I haven’t seen a reaction like that out of you before, so I just wanted to make sure.” Time said.
“Me either…” Twilight said after a moment, his voice barely loud enough to hear over the rain.
“I’ve… been in thunder storms before but… this time I just… panicked…” he said.
“Well… have you been in a thunderstorm since gaining your other form?” Time asked after a minute of quiet.
“I… no…” Twilight said, trailing off in thought.
“That might have something to do with it.” Time said, his voice growing more sleepy. Twilight nodded a little, already turning over the thought in his head. It… made sense. Dogs almost always hated thunderstorms because of the noise… he sighed, curling up in his blanket more. Yet another thing that had bled from one form to the other… how much more was there? Was he going to become more and more wolfish the more he transformed? But no… the crystal should be safe to use… he’d have to think more on it in the morning… for now…
“Try and get some rest. We can talk more about it in the morning,” Time said, sighing as he settled onto his bedroll. Twilight nodded, hugging himself. He’d… be okay. He’d figure this out in the morning.

Warnings:fear of lightning, fear of storms, fear of thunder/loud noises, and the rancher being a good old fashioned southern boy
Tumblr media
The day had been fine. You all had been traveling all day, which, I mean, KILLED your feet, but it’s whatever. You could push through it, it wasn’t that major of a nuisance. Fun banter throughout the day with the boys, watching the Champion catch fish by jumping in the river and grabbing them bare hands, watching Wolfie come and go, the Rancher doing the same. It had been perfect…. Until the sailor noticed something. He looked up at the sky and scrunched his face. “…it’s gonna rain.”
The rancher sniffed the air and nodded. “Yup. Smells like it.”
“Well we are in the Faron region.” The champion remarked
“You can smell the rain?” The traveler asked
“Lots of people can. You’d be surprised.” He replied and looked up again.
“Seems so…” he turned his attention back to the sky, which didn’t seem all that threatening, but that would come later. You didn’t really take their warnings to heart, as they didn’t seem so worried about it.
Cut to later, you were all running to find shelter under trees, in caves, anywhere that would provide safety in what was now a quickly approaching thunderstorm. In a flash of lightning you caught the champion putting on headgear that resembled a fish—whatever that was about. You’d worry about it after you got to safety. You were sprinting past what you didn’t recognize was the Smith in a cave.
“Y/n! In here!” He reached out and grabbed your wrist, pulling you in. You yelped, but tucked into him once you realized who it was. A sigh of relief wracked your body.
“Im so glad you got me before the—“ a loud CRACK sounded along with a bright flash of lightning that was too close to you for comfort, hitting a tree near the cave. You let out a scream and tucked back into him, holding onto him tighter than before. The colors in his eyes changed multiple times before settling on a shade of violet. “Hey.. it’s okay—cmon let’s get a little further away from this entrance…” he guided you further into the cave and found a nice dry spot to sit, pulling you down with him. He cradled you, rocking back and forth, trying to comfort you the only way he could think of. He held you tight and secure, reassuring you the thunder was just a noise and the lightning couldn’t get you in the cave.
“It’ll be over soon, y/n… storms don’t last forever…” he pet your hair and sighed, feeling bad about the state you were in. You were practically shaking like a chihuahua, tears in your eyes, jolting at every crack of Thunder, but he would sit with you through it all so you knew you weren’t alone. The storms would pass and the sky would be blue again in a matter of time, he was gonna make sure you knew that.

After a while of playing Tears of the Kingdom, I have some complaints. Don't get me wrong, I absolutely loved Tears of the Kingdom, but there are some things that I don't really enjoy. Some of these are things other people have stated they don't like, and some of these are actually something that are controversial.
Let's start with the ones people can agree with:
There are too few sky islands and there's almost nothing on them. There are a few exceptions like the Great Sky Islands, the entire way up and including the wind temple, the diving islands, etc. But the majority are copy and paste empty islands and all of them were Zonai related. I wish they added Monk Maz Koshia's sky island directly above the Great Plateau like in BotW's DLC, the islands from Skyward Sword, and the City in the Sky from Twilight Princess for some examples.
A real explanation of where Sheikah tech went. Like, we all know what the developers said: "they all vanished suddenly after the Calamity was over" we know that's bullshit because Purah and Robbie still use the ancient Sheikah technology for their towers, the Purah Pad, Purah's telescope, Robbie's mini Cherry, and the lone guardian on the roof of the Hateno Ancient Tech lab. Also it didn't just vanish after the Calamity as the true ending cutscene in BotW shows at the most a month after the Calamity and Vah Ruta broke down, not vanished.
The empty depths. I love the ruins and lightroots of the depths, but on the scale of the entire kingdom of Hyrule? It's empty. Up above you would find Koroks, small structures, different surfaces (sand, grass, rock, snow, etc), enemies and even citizens. I know that you can find mine ruins, the construct factory, Yiga outposts, and enemy mines; but the depths were so vastly empty with the exact same scenery no matter where you were. I would've preferred far smaller areas than the surface counterparts or even just have the Faron, Eldin, and Central Hyrule depths since that's all you actually need to go.
The Lightning Temple. Listen, I love the Lightning Temple. I just wish that they had used the Arbiters Grounds instead of a completely new dungeon. No, I don't mean I wanted Twilight Princess's Arbiters Grounds instead, I mean that there would've been some really cool, subtle lore that the Arbiters Grounds had been destroyed after TP and was rebuilt as the TotK Lightning Temple. Like, could you imagine seeing "The Lightning Temple: Arbiters Grounds rebuilt"
Sage abilities. How they implemented this was the absolute worst. If I were to redesign the sage abilities, I'd have it work more like BotW's champion abilities but with the same reload time as the sages. I'm going to say how I would've implemented each one. For Tulin's ability, I would've pressed the sneak button while in the air to gust forward. For Sidon's ability, I would've held down the block button like Daruk's Protection but swung the weapon while blocking to have the "water slice." For Riju's ability, when you use the bow, you hold block and instead of it Z-targeting the enemy, it would turn the arrow into a lightning arrow (a different type of arrow than electric arrows because it's used as Riju's ability to call down a lightning strike.) As for Yunobo and Mineru's abilities, they would've been the same as before. So, Yunobo basically is the only one with an Avatar and Mineru just follows you as is.
Dragon Tears. No, it's not because it's too similar to finding Link's memories in BotW, it's because you can find them out of order and before finding Impa. Yes, I am frustrated that the first dragon tear I actually investigated was the death of Sonia and I had no clue what was happening. I wish that it forced you to find the tears in order. Like, the geoglyphs would appear one at a time. Or maybe give the same cutscene as when the final tear appears. The light dragon has a tear drop and we need to go find it.
This one is the most controversial thought I feel like... Ultahand. Yup, I don't like ultahand. I don't like building my own vehicles. I don't like building robots. I just don't like engineering games. I love the Zelda puzzles, but when I had to build the solutions in shrines? I hated it. I prefer the BotW shrines where you find a solution by thinking outside the box. In TotK, there is no box to think outside of because whatever you try, it's possible with what we gave you. Make a bridge out of car wheels? Go ahead we love that! I would've personally felt more satisfied with finding a solution that wasn't intended, but in this game every solution was in fact, intended.
That concludes the things I didn't like about the game, everything else, though was absolutely fantastic.

Title: The Silent Prince
Chapter 3 of 3: Kingdom (COMPLETE) Chapter 2 Chapter 1
Fandom: Fire Emblem: Three Houses/The Legend of Zelda
Tumblr media
A late entry for Dimileth Goggles on Twitter.
Rating: T
Word count: 6,738
Summary: Time is running out, and Dimitri and Byleth desperately try to work together to fulfill their destinies.
They were running out of time. Not only had the castle started rumbling, but the Yiga Clan was on the move. Their mission had changed at a rapid pace. It became two parts: train Byleth and call upon the Champions.
The king sent emissaries to both the Goron and Zora peoples as they were the most out of the way from Dimitri, Byleth, and their group.
Their trip north to the frigid region of Hebra was a quicker one than expected. The Rito, who were a bird-like people, were already aware of the incoming threat far quicker than the rest of them were because their scouts could see the castle tremble from high above while they flew. Their leader had expected them and accepted their plan almost as soon as Dimitri proposed it. The Rito Champion made his way to their Divine Beast.
From there, the best they could do was continue to train Byleth in the ways that they could, and Dimitri knew what needed to be done.
They cut across Hyrule in days, making their way to the Spring of Courage located in the rainy Faron region. The sound of water pelting against wide palm tree leaves echoed around them. Encased in ancient ruins and hidden from view by gigantic statues of dragon heads, Dimitri guided Byleth in praying to the goddess statue there while Felix and Dedue kept watch.
He sank into the spring beside her, the lukewarm water reaching his knees and sloshing against his breeches.
“Go,” he said. “Until you are submerged up to your waist.”
He watched as Byleth closed her eyes and clasped her hands together. He could feel the energy radiating off her when she mouthed the prayers.
The thunderstorm fell around them, and lightning rolled above the clouds. Their only shelter from the rain was the very ruin they stood under.
He watched as the droplets sluiced off mossy stones and how the water soaked into the fabric of her gown. Her hair cascaded along her back, and her shoulders turned inward as if she were trying to protect herself from something invisible. The leather belt that she normally wore around her middle was gone, tossed to the side as she tried to call upon powers she had once not known she had at will.
Dimitri thought she looked out of place without it.
He closed his eyes too and breathed as she breathed, a silent guide by her.

from one mineru lover to another ... can i pleek hear the headcanons you have for her
KICKS DOWN DOOR
YES ABSOLUTELY
some loose context for the headcanons i have for her
the zonai hail from the silent realm and formed 3 major settlements originating from the decaying trial gates, one in the sky islands, one in faron, and one below in the depths (using the eldin gate that had since been buried under hyrules changing landscape). by the time of totks ancient era, the zonai had been slowly and steadily migrating back to the silent realm with mineru and rauru being the last to stay
hailing from the silent realm, the zonai culturally place a massive emphasis on self betterment through trials, self inflicted or otherwise, as a way of marking time through growth, in service to the goddesses
im using the oot elements, so the gerudo get spirit (which manifests as lightning) and mineru gets shadow, linking her to the sheikah and the technology theyll create
rauru and ganondorf are exes who had an EXTREMELY messy breakup before rauru founded hyrule
i can elaborate on that more (and will later) but for NOW
MINERU
so i headcanon mineru as this character thats deeply atheistic and autistic. which doesnt make a lick of sense until i explain it further lmao
mineru, to me, is this person thats deeply materialist, whereas her brother rauru is deeply idealist, and sonia is a staunch spiritualist (which is why her and rauru make such a good match for each other). minerus primary concern is The Real. the golden goddesses are Concretely Real but their influence is negligible. mineru grows up in a culture that dedicates themselves to spiritual self growth through trials of self betterment for, ostensibly, the sake of three goddesses no one will ever see or talk to or be touched by. they exist, surely, because the triforce exists, because their power exists, but mineru will never see them, hear them, talk to them, touch them, or see their hands mold reality. in every aspect she would care about, They Are Not Real. and so ascribing to a cultural norm of "betterment through trial" (needless struggle and self doubt) just. doesnt click for her. why chase spiritual enlightenment when theres shit to do RIGHT here?
shes this kind of gruff, non social person who nonetheless cares deeply and intensely but wants to dedicate her effort and energy to things she considers important. her brothers important. her work is important. vague divine approval? unimportant. shes more concerned with how things tick than the Grand Plan of it all.
a lot of this makes itself manifest in her role (in my headcanons and aus) as the sage of shadow, if you understand shadow as Unseen (Concealed) Truth. why do the islands float? how does zoanite work? what can we do with this energy? what can we make? how can we build on it? shadow magic, imo, requires a strong thread of creativity. its what makes OoTs shadow temple so brutal and the history behind it so heinous. but it isnt inherently bad. its creativity, imagination, the Unreal. its the drawing of a curtain and the throwing it aside. this underlying current, the need to understand How and Why, is what makes minerus cutscenes with this understanding so much more enjoyable to me.
mineru is this character defined by her inventions, whos headpiece mirrors the goggles purah and robbie wear, whos role as shadow, the creator the inventer the counterculture, will be revisited when the sheikah create technological wonders that will spread throughout hyrule. she makes a mech to house her soul to survive the thousands of years into the future. whereas other sages choose a successor, mineru says "youll see me there in the temple my damn self." because if you want something done right you do it yourself!
i headcanon mineru and rauru as hailing from the sky island zonai civilization, and theyre the last hyrule dwelling generation. she grew up watching these senseless tests of courage that just risked major injury for no good reason, and then her baby brother goes off to better himself because he wants to make a meaningful impact in the world, and it just cascades into a dominos of bad decisions. she doesnt put any stock into divine intervention because the only people who can save anything are us. i picture her being endlessly fascinated by her home and the constructs and that curiosity being the foundation for a lot of what she does from there on out. becoming a fantasy mechanic, an inventor, getting down into the nitty gritty of a machine and getting covered in grime and oil but not caring because theres a problem that needs fixing and she has a wrench. voraciously tearing into any book she can find, any historical record, being this treasure trove of information and trivia and history because she cant help but come back to those questions, how?, why?, again and again.
itd be easy to hear her described as anti social and gruff, and see her interpreted as a little standoffish and blunt, and end up viewing her as kind of an ass, and you wouldnt be wrong per se but its really just that mineru only really puts effort into a relationship she cares about, and she really REALLY pro cons that shit. her first and foremost concern is rauru, her little brother, and as the zonai migrate back to the silent realm, her last remaining family. when rauru descends to the surface in search of problems to fix and Be Of Help, mineru correctly assesses his budding relationship with the gerudo royal is one fated for disaster, because nothing good comes from entering a relationship just to "fix them" regardless of how well intentioned and kind hearted you may be. because of this she doesnt invest much into getting to know ganondorf as he interacts with her brother, because shes expecting it to blow up and doesnt want any of that blowback. nevertheless when that comes to a head in the WORST possible way (a situation in the au that results in the creation of the gibdo queen, the first blood moon, the deaths of several gerudo guards and the eventual deaths of koume and kotake, a situation that will then contribute to The TotK situation) mineru beats herself up every day for not being more involved. her brother is sweet, and truly believes in the ideals of the zonai he was raised with, that to struggle is to overcome trial and better ones self, and such an effort is a spiritual responsibility of those hailing from the silent realms, created by divine hands, because of the power theyre capable of wielding. she cant fault him for that, because rauru IS capable of great good and he WANTS to help people so bad, but as mineru surmised years earlier, when your inundated with this concept that You Have Power and your Obligated To Use It, you never stop to think that maybe you arent the best person to solve this issue. you cant use a wrench for a screwdrivers issue. and knowing that, knowing rauru is driven to help but too inexperienced to know what he CAN help with, mineru feels responsible for not stopping him from biting off more than he can chew. (rauru, on his end, solely blames himself)
so shes a bit More Present when he meets sonia and when his idealism leads him to found hyrule, she stays close, but she really can NOT be assed to be dragged into politics because jesus christ. no. but she continues to be like. Peak Older Sister. every time rauru has a problem, shes the one he turns to. every time rauru wants advise, he asks mineru. he loves her a lot and relies on her guidance because he considers her one of the smartest people he knows (she is, along with sonia) and even though most of the time its rauru once again trying to fit a square peg into a round hole, theyve basically been abandoned by the rest of their people (who have written hyrule off as this kind of Fun Ordeal but Not Worth It as they go on being fucking. philosopher kings in a realm of Eternal Silent Trial where you can freely perfect whatever magic bullshit you want without worry of a body count or, ya know, consequences because very little is physically tangible there). mineru isnt going to like. continue that trend, and just leave rauru to it. hes a grown adult for sure, but that just means its his responsibility to grow and change as a person, not that he cant ask for help. especially because she doesnt want him to handle everything alone
so shes hands off with the hyrule business, and plus sonias got a good head on her shoulders, shes a nice balance to raurus Impulsive Do Gooding and helps him move from individual action to Systemic Good (tho that in itself is another one of Raurus Bad Impulsive Ideas because founding a Divine Kingdom of Good is a fools errand). and for the most part mineru is fairly assured that it wont blow up too horribly (*loud incorrect buzzer*) but man. when they show up with zelda.
so raurus very much a "im divinely obligated to help people" and sonias v much a "fate ordained our meeting" type and mineru is very very much Not That. but zelda? zelda is so much closer in personality to mineru, so when rauru and sonia show up with this girl from the future that theyve basically adopted, minerus like "alright you are once again Back On Your Bullshit so im NOT getting Into It" AND YETTT. zelda ALSO cant stop asking how? and why? (because light and shadow are closer than most people think), and zeldas so invested in what makes this tech work, how it functions, what makes it go, and while rauru and sonia try to give zelda the best they can, zeldas also similarly thrilled to get her fancy white dress all gunked up with oil cuz theres a plug that needs reconnecting and mineru cant get her hand thru the gap. they get on like a house on fire and despite herself mineru loves zelda. absolutely adores her. which was NOT on todays to do list, for sure. and so despite herself mineru is now including zelda in her (very small) circle of family and similarly mineru is this gruff no nonsense figure zelda can earnestly talk to whos similarly concerned with the Real and the Practical and how it can be applied to solve our problems instead of omens chasing and prophecy fulfilling. which is why mineru goes out of her way to help zelda in a way she generally doesnt for sonia because well. zeldas basically her niece. and sonia can handle herself. and also zelda loves hearing about weird programming quirks in the constructs. so its really just kind of inevitable
but minerus pursuit of knowledge is why she knows about draconification (and rauru doesnt), and why rauru comes to her for help because thats kind of his habit. its a lot like asking big sis to beat bowser for you cuz you cant get it, and like she clowns on you for it but still takes the controller.
and when rauru and sonia are like "the ganondorf situation is Our Problem and we arent involving zelda" mineru is 100% behind that because uhh YEAH rauru it IS ur problem this is YOUR ex and your series of Questionable Decisions, but also why she throws herself into it because she does still carry that responsibility. she still feels that guilt for not protecting rauru from himself as his older sister, and that so many people suffered, and that now more people she cares about ARE suffering and WILL suffer. a feeling thats compounded by raurus sacrifice sealing ganondorf
understanding how the sky islands float was a childhood dream of minerus, to understand the hand of the divine and make it tangible and real, and while she achieves that, with the help of someone who really truly gets her and her work, the context surrounding it is so grief stricken and heart rending it thoroughly spoils the joy of scientific pursuit, which is probably why it isnt something mineru records in a lot of detail. in a lot of ways mineru loses all the people she considers family to that same Hand of Divinity, which imo makes mineru being atheist more richly thematic and adds to her character. its this combination of "am i being punished for my lack of faith?" alongside this determination to assert your individual power in SPITE of divine influence, taking herself to the present by her own craft and the sheer power of ingenuity and creativity and the aid of an equally learned peer. also her spirit bond is on the middle finger. i love that for her
this is long as fuck so im throwing bonus thoughts in the tags

LUtober Day 24: Shelter
See the full collection on AO3.
Wild’s Faron region was a lovely place when it wasn’t pouring rain…which made it unfortunate when the sky opened up to drop buckets of water on their heads.
They were well past the Lake Floria bridge, so instead of doubling back to the stable, Wild led the group to one of the roadside shelters that were built for this very reason.
Although trying to cram six random travelers both coming from and going to Lurelin, a merchant with a pack donkey, plus nine grown men and boys under the shelter was not an ideal situation.
Sky wrapped Hyrule in one arm and Legend in the other, the former welcoming it while the latter begrudgingly allowed it. They forced Time and Warriors into the middle of the pack so their metal armor would be best protected, while Four chatted with the merchant and Wind petted the donkey.
Wild choose to just stand in the rain.
“Please don’t get struck by lightning,” Twilight begged.
Wild rolled his eyes. “I took off everything metal, Twi! Nothing’s gonna happ—” He was interrupted as a lightning bolt struck a bush on the other side of the road. “See? Just fine!”
Twilight glowered before grabbing Wild by the arm and yanking him back under the shelter. He wrapped the Champion up in his arms and squeezed when the squirming started.
“You’re smothering me!”
“Am not. Shaddup.”
The sound of snickering from a couple of the travelers reached Wild’s ears. “Twi!” he hissed. “You’re making me look bad!”
Legend scoffed. “You do that on your own, you menace.”
Thankfully, the storm chose that moment to wind down with the sun peeking through the clouds. The rain slowed to more of a light shower, much to the relief of everyone huddled under the shelter.
“Alright, I think we can risk moving on now,” Time said as he shoved his way past the boys and onto the road.
“Sweet!” Wind cheered as he ran out into the rain. “Take me to the beach, Wild!”
Hyrule dragged Sky out of the shelter and spun in a little circle. Legend grabbed Warriors by the scarf and followed. Wild tried to join them, but was held back.
“You can let me go now,” Wild said, trying to break free by grabbing onto Four as he walked past. The smithy smoothly evaded capture and made a face at Wild before sauntering out.
“You know what? Nah,” Twilight said as he grabbed Wild in a headlock and pulled him along.
It would be a long wet walk to Lurelin.

Anything you wanna ramble about?
Jfbdksjeekdj so many things!!
I’ve been rambling about my modern au for a while so maybe I’ll do the mythical creatures thing that’s been knocking around my brain. This time :D
Have you ever heard of a Peryton? They’re essentially winged deer who are the Guardians of the Forest. Fierce and intense, magically haunting. Very cool. Some people’s interpretations have them with these really wicked fangs.
And thunderbirds!! They’re like coated in lightning and I have got to get my hands on more information on them. They’re so cool!
Which of course made me go hmmm what if, what if. And I play fast and loose with everything when I write because it’s more fun for me that way… so LU mythical creatures. I’ve seen it done a few times and LOVE the concept;
Twilight is harder than expected when you don’t want to take the easy way out. I’ve been playing with the idea of a version of Peryton for him, more wolf than deer, BUT then I remembered that Black Shucks are a mythic, ghostly dog-like creature that exist and it kind of fits in the most spooky sense. Depending on where you look at the mythos, they’re either menacing (malevolent also but eh) or companionable omens of death that usually roam a coastline. There’s also church grims, which often take the form of a black dog, and guard church cemeteries. So playing fast and loose, as I do, I thought Twilight could be the more companionable, omen bearing Black Shuck in his Mythic form and then by the time he meets Wild in BOTW, he’s more spirit-like and is more akin to a Church Grim… just on a more personal level. I think it would be a fun little idea to play with instead of meeting Wild on the Plateau and have him be like “guarding” the Shrine… Wild meets him in Blatchery Plains where he actually died and that’s where they meet.
Sky would be some form of Thunderbird and nothing will change my mind on this. It fits. SO WELL. At least from what little I remember from previous research dives on the subject. I also originally had planned to have Sky be the reason that the Faron region changes from being a big growth forest in Twi’s time to the lightning infested jungle of BOTW/TOTK. It was gonna be because he was visiting Twi, who if I had left him as a Peryton would have been bound to the forest he guarded, which was planned to be Faron! Obviously I’ve changed that somewhat… but I still like the idea so I may find a way to work it back in.
I don’t like to take the easy routes when doing these kinds of concepts, not because I look down on them but more because I like the challenge. So Hyrule is giving me a little trouble because he’s canonically got fae blood. So like fae or even changeling… but changelings are a type of fae so of course I’m going to go all in on that (and get horribly distracted because doppelgängers are a type of fae, what that’s so cool) and it’s lead me down a rabbit hole. So more on Hyrule another day…
Wind is also giving me fits because he’s going to be something ocean related and it’s gotta fit his nature, so there’s Cephali which are a type of Sea fae and then there’s others that are more commonly thought of, but I could make him something wind related a novel idea I know which means more research to be done! I had some other ideas, like mythos or superstition believed by sailors to draw inspiration for but like I said more research.
Wild! Is! A! Church Grim! Also! But he’s gonna be an amalgamation like Twi. Dryad calls to me for him, but I want to do a little more digging because it’s gonna be a connection thing for him. He’s a church grim, but all of Hyrule is the cemetery :3c hehe oops
Time is 100% a changeling. Hands down. No explanation needed. He may become something else after events of TP, he may not, we will see. I will saying nothing else because mans needs to be mysterious. It may change if I stumble across something more interesting though
Legend is a kitsune (which is also!! A type of fae!! It falls into fae rules. Very interesting.) but they’ve got that same tenuous relationship with being perceived as good versus not good. In a lot of myths, they’re the messengers of the sun goddess… which feels fitting for Legend since he’s been on the most adventures! The more intense Good vs Bad in their mythos also feels fitting because Ravio is also a kitsune! While mythos says they’re fox spirits… I don’t follow rules so they’re bunnies. Heh.
Warriors is going to be my only one without anything as of yet. I want to do more research into mythic creatures and spirits more associated with war and just haven’t had the time yet. Maybe this weekend. Some of these wouldn’t have “true forms” while on their adventure through time together… so it would be interesting to have TOTK events happen post LU events and have Wild contend with how changed his brothers have become in the years (millennia for then really) since they traveled together.
This was rrreeeaaallllllllyyy long. Oops lol

Can we get a little one shot of pre-calamity col!au?? Love your writing!
Aw, thank you!
It’s funny, though, that you asked me about this little one shot idea, because I’m for a long time already planning to write (at some point) a separate fic for colWild pre-calamity. But there a long while till then, so you can have this small part now)
******
Child of lightning AU
Rhythmic sound of horse hooves on the rocky path rang around the group. A little troupe of soldiers marched behind them, making their way through the Faron rainforests. In the front, the princess of Hyrule was leading the procession, accompanied on each side by two of the Champions.
“Do I really have to use a horse? I could fly, isn't it enough?” The rito warrior complained once again, his talons awkwardly placed in the stirup of a saddle.
The mount in rito's care bucked awkwardly, almost making the Champion fall off its back. He tightly grasped the reins, tensing in the saddle. The annoyance was practically dripping from the bird's expression.
The princess sighed softly, keeping her composer. “You are, as the Rito Champion accompanying me, supposed to be on a horse on such trips. It's a show of status, and-” Zelda stumbled in her words, pressing a hand to her chin in thoughts. “It's some kind of a custom, I guess.” She concluded at last, a sheepish smile appearing on her face.
Link humorously huffed from her other side, all while Revali was clicking his beak, not pleased with the answer he was given in the slightest. “I don't remember you forcing Daruk on a horse?”
Clicking his tongue to draw attention to himself, Link signed, smiling from ear to ear. “Have you ever seen a horse big enough to be able to carry the guy?!”
“Oh, shut it!” Revali hissed, puffing his feather, which made Link laugh only more.
“Quit it, you too!” Princess ordered, though she wasn't really angry or annoyed with the two champions. Their bickering was a satisfying background throughout the journeys. And rather entertaining too.
“Why didn't you take Urbosa with you now?” The Rito warrior continued.
“She went with us last time, to the Nayru spring.”
“She really wanted to endure herself to the cold climate.” Zelda amusedly added under her breath. Revali barely opened his beak to ask something else, when Zelda beat him to it. “And before you ask, Daruk went with us to the Spring of Power. And Mipha is busy as of lately with her people, so she couldn't accompany as well.”
“So that's leaving only you.” Link smirked.
Crossing his wings, Revali pouted. “This is stupid.”
“You're stupid.”
“You little-”
The white mare neighted under the princess, as she zoned the boys out, focusing on the path before her. This was gonna be a long road to the Spring of Courage.

arson.
It’s Eldin’s turn to do something dumb. This may or may not involve setting trees on fire.
[Misfits of the 3 Dragons]
AO3
“Do you ever get the urge to just…set something on fire?”
Faron chuckles at Eldin’s comment. “All the time.”
“Good,” the Fire Dragon replies, scanning the forest for signs of Lanayru, and finding none. “Well, he’s not back yet, so what do you say?”
“Hm? I’m afraid I don’t follow…” Faron’s eyes go wide as she stares at Eldin’s fiery body. “Oh- you wanna burn Lanayru’s forest?? I don’t think that’s a good idea—“
“Oh no, not the whole thing. Just one tree! Don’t worry, I’m not that mean.”
The Water Dragon pauses in thought. “Well…I suppose we could get back at him for something, huh?”
“Yeah, maybe the way he goes into ‘overprotective dad’ mode around us? I know it’s because he cares, but sometimes it’s a bit much…”
“Well…that too. But I was thinkin’ of that time he was in my hall and got really mad at me. He used his lightning powers on that whole section of lake and all the fish died.”
Eldin gasps. “Woah, Lanayru!” He glances up at the sky instinctively to make sure the Thunder Dragon isn’t there. “I didn’t know he had that in him! Holy Hylia!”
“Yep. Every single fish. Gone.” Faron chuckles. “I suppose I had it coming, though. I made a few comments that pushed him over the edge. But like…that still wasn’t necessary.”
“So, uh…should my little arson crime be our revenge against his little fish mass-murder scheme?”
“Sure! We just gotta be quick about it. You light the tree on fire, watch it burn, I’ll put the fire out, and we’ll leave before Lanayru gets back. Then we can blame a robot.” Faron points to an LD-301 near them, who turns around and skitters away. It must have been listening in on their conversation.
“Faron, he won’t think a robot did it. He’ll know it was me. Just don’t tell him you were in on this.”
“Okay,” she replies, “I won’t.”
“Now stay back. Stuff’s about to get lit up!”
Taking a deep breath, Eldin closes his eyes and summons the fire power Hylia had blessed him with. Heat rages throughout his body as the magic flames float up to his mouth, ready to be released.
Farewell, little tree.
As he opens his eyes, he brings his focus down to the tree closest to him. In one swift motion he exhales, and the red-hot flames shoot out through the air and collide with the green leaves on scrawny branches. A safe distance away, Faron watches with a look of amazement.
“Wow…well done, fire boy!”
Soon the flames engulf more branches, spreading across the entire surface of the tree. The satisfying crackle fills Eldin’s ears like a beautiful song, and he breathes in the smell of fire and smoke that fills the air. He hasn’t been able to do a stunt like this in quite some time, and it feels wonderful.
“Ah, what can I say, Faron?” he speaks eventually. “Guess I’m a master at my craft.”
The Water Dragon flies in slightly closer, and the two watch the tree burn with cheeky smiles on their faces. Almost all the branches have been completely incinerated, and the fire has begun to spread down to the trunk. Eldin figures they should stop once neighboring trees start catching flames; he isn’t quite in the mood to burn down the whole forest, after all.
“You don’t have any trees in your area, don’t you?” Faron asks.
“Pretty much no.”
“What a shame. The only dragon out of the three of us without their own woods.”
Eldin smirks. “Well, not like mine would last that long anyway.” He sighs with content as he keeps his eyes on the scaldering sight he created. “Fire dragons and trees? You can see how that ends up!”
“Yeah, makes sense. Probably why Hylia didn’t want a—“ Faron cuts off suddenly as the two dragons hear a deep singing voice from the sky. She gasps as her eyes go wide. “Oh shit! Lanayru’s here!!”
“Uh-oh.” Eldin doesn’t bother to look up, for he too knows exactly who that voice belongs to. “Quick! Put out the fire!”
Unfortunately it also takes Faron a good few seconds to activate her own power, and Eldin fidgets with his rings nervously. He can still hear Lanayru zipping around through the air…it won’t be long before he notices.
“Okay, I’m ready!” the Water Dragon exclaims, shooting her claws out with a grunt. Large streams of water gush from each palm, completely soaking the tree and sizzling out every inch of flame. Now Eldin can see the charred remains of what used to be a lovely tree, several branches having snapped and fallen from his power burning through.
The fire may be out, but he knows they won’t be able to leave without a trace. The Thunder Dragon is coming now…he seems to have noticed as he flies down directly toward them.
“Just what do you think you're doing????” he bellows, glaring harshly at Eldin. “Did you just—set a tree on fire??”
Eldin gulps. “Um…yeah.”
“ELDIN!! I’ve told you this! You can’t just commit arson anywhere!! I mean—you almost started a forest fire!!”
“…But I didn’t,” he points out. “Faron came to stop it.”
“Yeah, I saw her do that. Thank Hylia.” Lanayru sighs, rubbing his forehead with one claw. “…Just…ugh, Eldin. Why?? Why did you do that??”
“Because it’s fun!” The Fire Dragon smirks, which only makes his older companion frown. “Or perhaps I am simply angry at you.”
“Huh? Wh-what did I do?”
“Ah, don’t act all innocent, Lanayru. I know what you did. You killed all of Faron’s fish with your lightning! Little fish murderer!!”
Lanayru’s brow furrows as he pauses in thought. “…What? I don’t—oh, that?” He briefly throws his head back in laughter. “Why are we still bringing that up? It was like…ten years ago!”
Wait…what??
Faron snickers, putting a hand to her mouth to hide her own giggles. You—meanie!
“Uh…Miss Faron, I think that would’ve been a good detail to add BEFORE I committed arson.”
“Ah, fire boy, it doesn’t matter,” she assures him. “You were gonna do it anyway!”
Pausing in thought, he shrugs his shoulders. “…Yeah, I was.”
A deep groan fills the air. Eldin glances at Lanayru, whose head is now buried in both claws. The old dragon seems completely spent, so tired at putting up with the two youngsters, and for a second Eldin twinges with regret. Perhaps he should have lit up Faron’s woods instead…
“Ugh,” Lanayru mumbles. “You two are just—aaahh! I love both of you to bits, but…” Slowly he lifts his head to glare at them. “You’re driving me insane!!”
“Sorry, Lanayru. It was a lot of fun, though.”
“Well, I’m glad that destruction of my property was fun to you, Eldin.” The sarcasm is evident in the Thunder Dragon’s voice. “Now I have a burnt tree in my woods. Oh joy. Exactly what I wanted, huh? A burnt tree.”
“Then just dig it up and plant a new one!”
“Wait- plant a new one?? Do you know who you’re talking to here? I can’t plant a tree to save my life! Why don’t you plant it instead, since you burned it?!”
Eldin smirks. “You think I can plant trees?? Think about where I live for a second, won’t ya?”
Lanayru sighs with frustration, and slowly the two dragons turn their gazes to Faron. The only one who knows how to plant a healthy tree.
“Fine,” the Water Dragon replies. “I’ll do it. But I think this is a good skill for you two to learn.”
“Sure,” says Lanayru. “You just have to teach us!”
“…Well, shit.”
Eldin bursts into laughter at Faron’s response. Clearly the last thing she wants to do is teach the others how to plant a tree.
“You know what?” she continues. “If it will help you buffoons learn something, maybe I will one day. Or I’ll have Link teach you instead.” Glancing at the charred spot of grass below them, she grins slightly. “Don’t worry, Lanayru, I’ll have this taken care of.”
“Hrrmph,” Lanayru mutters. “I think I need to go lie down. Eldin, you’re temporarily banned from this area without my supervision.”
“Ah, shucks.” Well…should’ve seen that coming. “…I guess I’ll just commit arson somewhere else, then!”
“Don’t you dare. I’ll be watching you.”
…Fine.
Eldin watches as Lanayru glides over the treetops toward his own clearing, much larger than this one. If he can’t set anything on fire now…well, he figures he’ll just have to get creative. With a sigh, he turns his focus to Faron, as she digs up the burnt tree with her claws and discards it onto the grass.
At least it was fun while it lasted.
