Dear Mr. President- 2/3/17
Dear Mr. President,
I want to start out by saying thank you because you are the reason I am starting this blog. I used to be a writer. Well, I used to really want to be one professionally.
I wanted to be a journalist. I wanted to write for a major news organization, use my time and my words to inform the people of America. It was my dream to see my name on the byline above the fold. I even went to school to study the ever changing science of journalism. I graduated, but life got in the way and the path to fulfilling my dream wasn’t as clear as I thought it was going to be. I got discouraged and I put my pen down.
Then you were elected.
You sir, have stirred something inside me. You have brought back that drive, the need to put my voice into the conversation.
Thank you, Mr. President, for really pissing me off.
I did not vote for you because I didn’t believe in any of your platforms. What I do believe in is the American election process and the Constitution. The electoral college said you won. I admitted defeat, stepped back, and waited to see what you would do when you ascended to the highest office in our nation.
You have been in office for two weeks and have started this country on a path of self destruction. How you may ask? Here’s a summary of the executive orders you’ve signed since taking the oath which includes taking healthcare away from millions of Americans, limiting reproductive rights for women, and banning legal immigrants from returning to the U.S.
You’ve been busy, obviously. Not too busy however, to piss off or embarrass yourself in front of multiple foreign leaders. These are your allies Mr. President. You think we’re heading to war, well in war you needs friends to watch your back. You’re only sabotaging yourself.
I’m not going to go into detail about everything single thing you did in the last two weeks, that is for another letter. And yes, there will be other letters. There will be 1446 more letters, one for every remaining day you’re in office, if there needs to be. I will write a letter every day until you decided to listen to the people who voted for you instead of the group of billionaires you choose to surround yourself with to tell you how “amazing” you are.
Mr. President, you need to listen. You need to listen to the people, your people, who you have sworn to lead, to “make great again”. Millions of people marched on the day after your swearing in to ask to have their voices heard. The day after you decided to keep hundreds of thousands of people from coming home, hundreds of lawyers descended into airports across the country to give those who didn’t have voices a way to be heard.
Being an elected official means listening to those you serve. If you listen to your people, not just those who aid around you, but those who voted for you, those who live in the nation you wanted to lead, that will make you a great leader.
I may be only one of millions, but I have the right to have my voice heard. So you’re going to hear it Mr. President. I look forward to writing to you in these next four(?) years.
Sincerely yours,
AMA

“I may not live to see our glory. But I will gladly join the fight. And when our children tell our story, they’ll tell the story of tonight...” ✨❤️💙🇺🇸🦅🇺🇸💙❤️✨ Happy #FourthofJuly! This is one of my favorite holidays when my husband and I sing #Hamilton songs all day long and remember how cool it is to be an American. • • • I’ve compiled several books here that represent my home country well. #Beloved and #TheGreatGatsby are two of the absolute best American novels ever written. As a matter of fact, #tonimorrison is hands down my favorite American novelist of all time. Pictured here also are two of my husband’s books: #LetterstoAmerica and #LincolnsLastTrial both of which I have not yet read. Lastly, #AllAmericanBoys —a contemporary #YA novel which I plan to teach in tandem with #tokillamockingbird next year to my freshman students. • • • #goodwinsgoodreads #books #bookstagram #booksofinstagram #currentlyreading #amreading #booklover #goodreads #booknerd #bookaddict #bookporn #booksarelife #bookcommunity #shelfies #shelfporn #bookdragon #bookquotes #bookobsessed #alwaysreading
