I feel like I complain about mobile games a lot but I never show the kinds of games I'm looking for.
Orna! An 8bit styled rpg where the monsters are around your neighborhood! (Don't worry, they respawn after you kill them, so you don't actually have to leave the couch). One of the best games that I've been playing for years. There are paid features, but only cosmetics. It's been run by like one dude for forever. It is a grind, I won't lie. But it's fun and a million different things to do, pvp, town building, you can claim territory, area bosses.
This is an mmorpg, and while you can pay for some stuff, you can't get around putting the work in! Everything has to be leveled, fishing, weapon proficiency, mining, a bunch of stuff. Most of the fun I've had with it is seeing how far into the smithing I can get before I have to move up to the harder areas. This game is always swarming with players, so the town areas can be a little hectic.
This one's a little interesting. It's a stickman mmorpg. You can pay for stuff, but its not ptw, it's pt expand your inventory, that kind of thing. You create multiple characters, with three starting classes that can evolve to multiple subclasses. Each class is better at a certain activity, mining, fishing, bug collecting. That's mainly what this game is, collecting materials to level up your gear for the next area. There are quite a few special skills for each class, and a lot of different builds. Dungeons, guilds, daily quests, it's all there.
Probably noticing a theme by now. I like rpgs ok? Elona is a team building and gearing focused rpg. You hire or recruit people and then gear them up, and they tag along with you into dungeons or storms or whatever. This one is quest heavy, and you will spend a lot of time collecting items for the smithing (but its worth it!). The skill leveling system is very flexible and you can level thru use, spell books, there is even a catch up feature where you can use skill points. Lot of status effects and such to keep track of (one of the few games I've played where eating is both a necessary game mechanic and a Stat boost system). I circle back to this one a lit because it's also cute? Something about it is just so cute to me.
So these are some of my favorite games on mobile that aren't just shameless copies or cash grabs. Lemme know if you have any more!

In light of the eng a3 server getting shut down, do you have any (preferably mobile) game recs besides the jp server? Hope you have a great day :)
i'm not the right person to ask that bc i mostly just rotate between 5 apps nndbfbdnnf
keep in mind i dont really like games like a3 which are wholly story-driven and have no actual gameplay other than card collection, so you're gonna have to ask someone else for recommendations on that, but if you're open minded here's some recs from me
rhythm games:
love live is a long-running franchise so there's A LOT of content and many various characters to work with, the game is rather polished, if not a little cluttered bc of the updates over all those years, the gacha mechanism has become very generous too so thats refreshing, and as for songs you can find music of various genres but all within similar quality so its nice, i would consider the art style its biggest flaw, but we cant have everything
project sekai is fairly fresh (the en servers were just opened in december) and i very much prefer the gameplay of it to love live sif, it feels very clean and satisfying to play, the art style is also lovely, as is the music which additionally gives many great indie producers a better platform, the worst thing about it is the gacha though (the odds arent very high and the pity system is as ridiculous as on a3)
titles i dont play regularly but still think are fun: arcaea, dynamix, uta no prince sama, deemo
team-building games:
love live school idol festival all stars is a spinoff of sif, it focuses mostly on building your team and making your girls stronger, the gacha is pretty generous in my opinion, as it tends to be in this franchise, i find art much better here than in sif, the MVs are a lovely part of this game, a HUGE plus of this game is how easy it is, sometimes you just need to play a game casually and still do well bc you cant afford to use upore of your energy (i can assure you you can get every event UR just by doing your dailies, ive done so multiple times before)
revue starlight re:live is a very addictive team-building game which i'm pretty sure was based of magia record, the mechanics of it are the exact same so if you've played magia record you know what to do; you collect stage girls, make them stronger and fight monsters/other stage girls, i have to say i pretty much only play this game because of nana and fumi anymore; the gacha and the related to it pvp are awfully unfair and unbalanced, the game keeps releasing new game-breaking girls every few days and it's simply impossible to pull every single banner if you're f2p, so pretty much everyone in pvp ranks above S is p2w
grand chase is another one that i havent played in a while but its a huge comfort game, the music is super nostalgic and the modern re-designs of all my favorite characters are so high tier
thats it for my main apps and now on to time-killers if youre not bored yet
idle games my guilty pleasure:
masketeers has been my most recent addiction, the art style is lovely and its not littered with ads whenever you touch your screen, their there but its Actually optional
other idles i used to play a lot but i took a break and now the sole thought of opening the app fills me with unreasonable dread: legends of idleon (top tier), afk arena, pet idle
other games i dont know how to categorize but good games for killing time: evan's remains, data wing, fantasyxrunners, magic survival, meow tower, old friends dog game, post knight, sky children of the light, sonic forces running battle, world flipper, zen koi

So this game, Legends of Idleon dropped on android today
It's... it's kind of an idle game, but it's got a lot of active stuff going on too. It's kind of more of a people keep doing stuff while you're away. You also get multiple characters, so the point is kind of to build a team that works together to boost you past hard spots
So far it's been enjoyable. The dev seems like a cool guy, I liked his previous game and so far this one seems better
It'll be coming to pc in a bit, like a weekish depending on how things go I think is the plan. Has cross platform linking so you can just hop between them, I know that was being tested during the beta. Think mac is meant to come later
The dev also has plans to keep updating this for about 15 months they were saying, that's how long they expect all the updates they want to take to implement
So yeah, figured I might as well put it on people's radar since I kind of doubt most people will have ended up hearing about it
Hopefully some of you look into it and enjoy it

Idle On with Legends of Idleon
| Go offline. Get things done. An Idle MMO.
youtube
Steam noticed that I had a few hours into Clicker Heroes and that I enjoy MMOs and suggested Legends of Idleon to me over the weekend. It's an idle MMO and it's free. Okay, might as well. Developed by LavaFlame2, is a Free-to-play Massively Multiplayer Online Roleplaying Game currently in early access available on Windows via Steam, web browsers, and Android. The game already offers an impressive 38 classes, guilds, quests, dungeons, allows for multiple characters and constant play, even when you're offline.
The world is clever and dialog is worth reading. Already there are quests that have me stumped and dungeons I don't understand. Although I'm just getting started, I get the impression that this micromanaging game is simple to start, difficult to master. I have 4 characters started and I'm not quite sure if I'm doing things optimally or not. There is a well made Wiki and community Discord for the game, but I haven't had the urge to seek out answers quite yet. I'm enjoying the discovery.
So what kind of company is LavaFlame2? It's not. It's a person. Legends of Idleon is being developed by one person. Which is all the more impressive that this Early Access game is sitting at Very Positive on Steam with over 6k reviews. There is a cash shop but it's not overly pushy and you do gain gems (the game's currency) by playing the game as well as buying them from the shop with real monies.
If you decide to check it out, friend me at "zelibeli" and join our guild, "Multiplaying" so we can figure out how idle guilding works! If I don't respond right away, please be patient. I might be afk.

Cookie clicker:
Tumblr media
Let's start by saying that i don't like clicker games, I like idle (and let me suggest The legend of idleon) but not clicking. I played the game for 30 minutes and never opened it again, with the grand total of 48 kidnapped grandmas. It's also fair to mention that I dislike playing on the phone, i know there was a version for the computer but I do not think it would have affected my opinion in the end. However, I tried to experience the game without thinking if I liked the genre or not.
At the beginning I was caught up in the game, probably because I never played it and I was curious to discover how it worked and what the possibilities were, so I kept clicking and clicking wanting more cookies, but as soon as the first automatization happened i stopped and just waited for the cookie count to go up to buy more factories or grandmas. In terms of achievements, I think I felt a loss of it actually because I wanted more and more automatizations, it's like I never reached the goal, the more I had the more I wanted.
I did not even pay attention at the actual achievements in game since I think it was more of a personal matter, I needed to achieve more for myself, which is weird since I would usually play a game for the fun of it or for the unlockable steam achievements. For example bioshock, in the beginning I followed the story but later I just wanted to explore and see what was ahead for me, I did not care about the story anymore, I was just killing and progressing out of curiosity. While in Viscera clean up, for example, I am all for relaxing and unlocking steam achievements.
Therefore, cookie clicker was somewhat of a new thing for me, I wasn't playing to beat the others, Im not a competitive person and I don’t care to be first, but I was playing for a sense of internal accomplishment, which in the end shifted to boredom since I stopped clicking because my finger was dying and the automatizations weren't happening fast enough. I think what striked the most was dopamine, at least in the beginning, never got to experience serotonin because in a way I never achieved the goal I wanted to achieve (which was maxing out everything in 30 mins, I know it’s impossible but yes, I would never spend more time in the game, probably due to my short patience span).
To conclude, I still don't like the genre in fact I never opened the game after those 30 mins, but also It was interesting to analyze the reasons why I played (except because I had to) and why I could have continued.
