Saturday I went on a hike in Carmel Valley, and on the way down the mountain on a narrow path heard the call from around the craggy rocks: “One dog!”

For a second I didn’t clue in to what this meant, then realized whoever was coming up was announcing the fact that they had a pet and then the number and type. I have never experienced this type of communication on the trails.

Then I looked down at my 4 dogs and 2 cats and thought, well, they’re probably not going to expect this response.

#💭 #my poor boyfriend's dog. has been acting so INSANE. #for the past week or two he's been like. #insanely anxious... pacing... panting... not listening to commands... #jumping on furniture including the bed... my boyfriend's nightstand... the fucking kitchen table... THE FUCKING TRASH CAN... #and he's NOT A SMALL DOG #he's like a medium-large mutt part pittie... 9 years old #he's crawling under the bed he's getting stuck places he's scratching on the door if we shut him in a room #my boyfriend barely got any sleep bc he kept getting woken up the entire night by his dog like #jumping on stuff getting stuck under stuff knocking everything over scratching and whining #he like broke off part of one of his claws when jumping on the kitchen table at one point #knocked everything off of it including the tablecloth #tried leashing him to a shelf with a weighted blanked on it while we were at the laundromat and barricading off the kitchen #with totes and shelves and stuff #and when we got back he'd knocked over half the fucking barricade and twisted around the shelf he was leashed to #and had somehow gotten the leash wrapped around one of the KITCHEN CHAIRS #so he was STUCK #my boyfriend's stepdad is bringing a kennel tomorrow #which is a last resort but if he's not shut in something he's like #going to get hurt and break all my boyfriend's things and damage his apartment #i talked to the vet she said to try getting him some more exercise to wear him out and if that doesn't work #to get some blood work done and if that's all normal then to put him on some anxiety meds #took him on a really long walk today but he knocked over the shit in the kitchen AFTER that #and his water bowl... #he's eating drinking pooping peeing etc just fine he doesn't feel sick or bloated he's just fucking ANXIOUS #about something but we don't know whatttt #my poor boyfriend is so stressed and frustrated and has gotten like no sleep and i'm so stressed too #i'm sure it'll be okay but my GOD #UGH sorry for the long-ass rant holy shit #i'm just so fucking stressed and frustrated and worried

#my neighbors have an untrained large dog that they let roam the neighborhood off leash unsupervised and that dog has #on multiple occasions blocked my family out of our own house because if we try to open the door to go inside he will push his way past us #into our house where our cats are (cats that he has actively tried to kill multiple times before) #also other animal neglect and abuse that they do like. 99% of americans should be banned from pet ownership genuinely #it makes me so so mad. and friends of mine telling stories about other peoples off leash aggressive dogs attacking their leashed dog when #going on walks and shit and literally having to keep dog mace on hand to protect their dog from other peoples untrained aggressive dogs #that they just let off leash to harass or attack anyone or anything. straight up i am killing you with hammers #and ive seen videos by people on instagram who are good dog owners that have aggressive dogs (like rescues or just naturally aggressive dog #and they do everything right. they trained the dog to have good recall always on leash in public kept away from other dogs #except for when some dumbass lets their unleashed dog run up to them and they have to use their body to shield the dogs from each other #desperately yelling at the other owner to control their dog bc the good owners LEASHED dog is aggressive #and people in the comments actually get mad like ''why are you bringing your aggressive dog in public >:(((('' when the dog is leashed #in places That Have Leash Laws. the owner did Everything right but everyones like 'maybe ur a bad owner bc ur dog is aggressive' #like as if they have never heard of rescued strays or previously abused dogs in their entire life. kill yourself !!

Not Fandom related, but an off leash Doodle ran up and bit my Border Collie in the face on her walk today. I had her in a calm sit (on a leash) and waited for the owner to come grab their dog after it charged her. They made their 8 year old child come grab it after it bit my dog. And didn't apologize.

kids are so obsessed with scars they literally do not care what you got it from theyll think it was the coolest thing in the world i remember when i was in 5th grade i had a retractable leash wrapped around my knees and the dog it was attached to bolted and the way the leash ended up moving gave me really bad ropeburn that broke the skin enough to draw blood and also didnt heal right so i have scars across the back and outside of both knees and then when i volunteered at a preschool in ms they thought it was so fucking cool even when i told the story of it just being a leash they were like omg it must have been a really big strong doggy... did you get it back and bring it home... and i said yes and they were like no way youre so brave for bringing him back home even when youre bleeding... like they had no idea that that was the stupidest possible way someone could get injured

#wish we lived out in the country so she could just walk off leash around the property #shes much better at off leash walks #she listens. has good recall. but she can go more her pace #mostly gives other people space #but people are understandably nervous when a large dog comes up to them #and also dog reactive dogs are a thing #so im definitely not knocking leash laws #they exist for a reason #but man would it make walks more enjoyable for both of us if we could both just go our own pace #i need to figure out where the off leash dog park is

A series of events that occurred this morning:

#normally i'm very good with animals #but there were several things about this encounter that made it slightly terrifying #firstly i was unaware that there were any dogs at my apartment building #secondly this dog was not on a leash #thirdly this dog was so large that i've concluded it was either an abnormally large husky or a wolf-dog hybrid #finally when i looked up after i went down the stairs it was right on the upper landing i had just come from #meaning that it had followed me (and was thwarted by the stairs?)
