Lauren Blackman as Tsarina Alexandra
Have you said your prayers, my precious Anastasia?
For your father, the Tsar, you sisters and brother, for Russia herself?
Better prayers than music boxes in these difficult times.
She’s right, Nicky.
Have you said your prayers? God is everything. Sleep well. With this mother’s kiss

Notes:
An incredible capture of this show for Closing! Some wandering is seen but never takes away from the action. Some shakiness from readjusting at time but never a lot. Very little washout is seen, only in major wideshots.

omg Honor Blackman in Columbo as an actress playing Lady Macbeth! (funny thing is, I always thought she looks a bit like Lauren Bacall, and Bacall played a character in 1974 Poirot movie as an actress renowned in Lady Macbeth, too)

Hi!!
I was just wondering if you read any romance books and would you recommend some?? Your writing is amazing and I am constantly re reading your masterlist so I fully trust your judgment if you have any! 🤍🤍🤍
I haven’t read in a little while, I have to admit! The last few were The Hating Game by Sally Thorn, The Unhoneymooners by Christina Lauren and The Roommate by Rosie Danan.
Some of my ultimate favourites are The Sky is Everywhere and I’ll Give You the Sun by Jandy Nelson, The Raven Cycle series by Maggie Stiefvater (more found family with some love sprinkled in) and The Noughts and Crosses series by Malorie Blackman.
🧡🧡🧡

WHAT DOES A MISSING PRINCESS LOOK LIKE?
ANASTASIA is an adaptation of Russian history and folk-lore.
The Grand Duchess Anastasia’s family was executed, but it was rumored that she survived. Years later, a mysterious woman with amnesia named Anya hopes to find some trace of her family by siding with two con men who wish to take advantage of her likeness to the Grand Duchess.
In the keyart, Anya is dressed in what I describe as her adventure-ware.
In the production, Anya is introduced while dressed as a street urchin; when she is revealed as the Grand Duchess, she wears a regal ballgown.
The cloak we selected  for the keyart was a step above the urchin Anya, but not as regal as The Duchess. The outfit is purposefully designed as the balance between who Anya was and who she becomes.
A variation of the outfit photographed on the left was re-designed and added to the Broadway and international productions by Tony Award® nominated costume designer Linda Cho.

Anastasia the Musical Female Ensemble Costume Act One
Little Anastasia Nightgown
Most productions feature Little Anastasia in the prologue in a nightgown. In Hartford she wore a pink ribbon in curly hair, though in all other replica productions she wears a blue ribbon. The Little Anastasia actress also plays Prince Alexei and a child at the train station.

(Nicole Scimeca; Broadway)
Little Anastasia Dress
About halfway through the run, the Broadway production began costuming Little Anastasia in the prologue in a pink Russian court dress, still with the blue ribbon, which was also featured in the Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade. The First National Tour used this design as well, but subsequent productions have gone back to the nightgown.

Tsarina Alexandra
The Tsarina wears a grand silver court gown with fur sleeves, extensive beading, white gloves, and heavy jewelry including a large tiara. Some productions include a long train, or sometimes hints of purple or pink in the dress. This is an ensemble track with lines throughout the show.

(Lauren Blackman; Broadway)
Romanov Sisters: Olga, Tatiana, Maria, Young Anastasia
Olga, Tatiana, Maria, and Young Anastasia (usually played by the Anya understudy) all are specific ensemble tracks, though none have speaking roles in the show. Their costumes look very similar, all wearing light pink court gowns and curly hair with a tiara, though there are minuscule differences between them. From Broadway onwards Young Anastasia has a blue ribbon in her hair.

Romanov Servants/“Onionhead”
The female servants of the Romanov palace all wear high waisted white and red traditional Russian dresses, white gloves, and traditional headdresses (the shape of which is what earned the nickname Onionhead).
Tumblr media
(Left to Right: Arisa Kojimo, Hikari Kudo; Japan)
Rumor in St Petersburg
Various Russian peasants appear in differing costumes.
Tumblr media
(Left: Sarah Statler; Second National Tour. Right: Beth Stafford Laird, First National Tour)
Hussies: Marfa, Paulina, Dunya
Three prostitute girls audition for Dmitry’s con and report Anya to the Bolsheviks. They have names, they have some lines, and each is part of a specific track - usually also playing a Romanov sister and a ballerina. Their outfits appear similar to differentiate them from the other Russian peasants, with long sleeve blouses and sleeveless dresses layered on top during the theatre scenes, and loose coats during their scene with Gleb, though they have differences in color and detail between each other.

Bottom Left: Kristen Smith Davis, Sissy Bell, Lyrica Woodruff; Broadway. Bottom Right: Sissy Bell, Shina Ann Morris, Molly Rushing; Broadway)
Comrades
There are a few female officers present in the Bolshevik office. Their uniforms are largely similar to the male uniforms, though they wear skirts or dresses. They are very utilitarian and generally only differ in minor details.

Train Station
When fleeing the country, the Russian refugees on the train all wear individual costumes. They are similar to the peasant Russians, but are clearly meant to appear higher class with more expensive coats and hats. One of the ensemble usually wears a fake pregnancy belly.
