Dangerous cheerleading thing. I'll admit, as a non-American the concept of cheerleaders (and their prominence in US exported media) always baffled me. But team based sport, based around extreme athleticism, jumps falls and throws? Seems like its our once-a-season "force Parker to be the Infiltrator" episode. --- Those are some hard datapoints (3% of female athletes are cheerleaders, 66% of female athlete injuries are from that 3%), I dont know if that is accurate to life. But those are the kind of stats that feel like a "we did research for a fun cheerleading episode and got suckerpunched by the reality" lines of dialogue. --- Oh god, Parker thought that Hardisons fear of heights was a joke. (as someone on the spectrum I need to say, relatable. --- Ok quick google says that the show is right and (certainly at the shows original run came out) Cheerleading being or not being a sport was legally gray (IE: It took the Olympics until 2016 to recognise it as a sport, and even today many athletics associations refuse to acknowledge it as a sport). --- Oh i hate this committee chair already --- Lasergrid. --- OH NO, they found the worst thing they could: A right-wing politician who isnt corrupt, just legitimately an asshat! "you cant con an honest man", actually you can, its how most of your clients got fucked. You mean you cant bribe an honest man. --- Oh even worse, he's smart enough to know he's rather be king of his little seat of power then be an inconsequential cog in a bigger machine. --- Oh the bitch bribed him with a press conference and a scholarship in his name. She's good... --- Oh Hardison is lawyering up here. (Suddenly it makes sense why, according to what i've heard through the proverbial grapevine, the reboot added "lawyer" to the setup) "we're a sweepstakes?" --- Just... About.... wait for it.... *phone rings* right. Ah yeah, Nate's signature move: Insurance fraud fraud. (which is the crime of fraudulently claiming someone committed insurance fraud). Heck in this case he didnt even fake the fraud. --- I cant believe it, they got the guy on his side by tricking him into accepting a bribe from the mark. Just to be clear, I know i said before i like to see them give their antagonists more humanity. So i will compliment them on having an antagonist who had a moral backbone. And it seems Sophie will have a military fortification named after her.

Someone wants to misuse Imperial property.

“Come on. Please?” Tassyn asked.

“No,” said the Captain without looking.

Tassyn pouted.

“I’m asking you nicely,” they said.

“And I’m politely telling you no.”

The pout deepened, but since the Captain still wasn’t looking this didn’t really change much.

“It’s just one moon, Captain! There are so many moons! No-one’ll even notice!” Tassyn said, gesturing to the viewscreen on which hung the moon they were talking about and which the ship was presently in orbit over.

As far as moons went it was entirely unremarkable. Lifeless, airless, orbiting an equally lifeless planet. Space was lousy with the damn things, at least in the spots where it wasn’t empty.

“Then it doesn’t matter if I’m saying no, does it?” The Captain said, sweetly, finally looking to Tassyn who wilted in the face of such stiff-necked resistance.

Normally the pout worked!

Perhaps a different approach? Perhaps soften the request? Worth a shot.

“Captain,” Tassyn said, pout replaced now with a ‘We’re friends, aren’t we?’ smile. “How about I don’t write my full name? Just a shortened version? That wouldn’t be so bad, would it? And with the lasergrid it’d hardly take anytime at all! I can program it in easily! I already have a program ready, in fact!”

Tassyn held up the datawafer onto which they’d placed the pre-programmed firing solution which would - if acted upon - has the ship use its lasergrid system to write out their name on the moon’s surface.

The Captain wondered if perhaps Tassyn had too much spare time on their hands.

“No, and that’s final,” the Captain said.

Tassyn went back to pouting and then, on a whim, pushed straight on through to just sulking.

This made things on the bridge a little awkward. The Captain sighed.

“Tassyn,” they said, in measured, even and patient tones. “We’re on an Imperial ship. A modest Imperial ship, yes, but an Imperial ship all the same. There are certain standards to uphold and while it isn’t explicitly noted down anywhere that I’m aware of, I’m fairly certain that using the ship’s weapon systems to carve your name on the surface of a moon is liable to be seen in a dim light by Imperial command.”

Imperial command famously having not that much of a sense of levity.

“But they’ll never even know!” Tassyn protested.

“The ship will log the weapon discharge,” the Captain said.

Tassyn blinked. They’d entirely forgotten about that. The ship logged everything that happened, after all, but it would most certainly log the firing of the lasergrid for what appeared to be no obvious reason in a system the sensors would be logged as showing contained nothing hostile. 

That was the sort of thing that tended to stick out.

“...we can...lie?” Tassyn ventured, wincing at what a bad suggestion this was.

“That would probably go quite badly for us in the long run.”

This was undeniable. Tassyn looked crushed. The Captain felt as though they’d kicked a puppy, and finally caved. But only a little bit.

“If it makes you happy I will permit you to go to the surface and put a flag there,” they said.

Tassyn’s face lit up.

“Really?”

“I’ll take responsibility for it. This is assuming you have a flag?” The Captain asked.

“Of course I have a flag!” Tassyn said, pulling a flag out of somewhere that didn’t really bear thinking about.

The Captain blinked, then shook their head. Just roll with it.

“Somehow I am not surprised. You have two hours.”

Squealing with glee Tassyn gave the Captain a thoroughly unprofessional hug and then scampered off, flag in hand.

“Join the navy, they said…” the Captain grumbled to themselves, rubbing their face briefly before checking to see whether Imperial command had sent any messages yet giving any clue as to what they were actually meant to be doing here.

They hadn’t.
