Hi, about what the other anon said.

I think they're were referring to the swearing. Alicent was out of character because she would never say "fuck" this much, or lost her composure over a handmaid feelings. For Diane in the show for exemple, she said to Aegon she was ashamed of him. She made him feel pitiful by being extremely cold/passive-aggressive. Moreover, she understands the misogyny of her time. If Aemond is "tired" of his handsmaid/done playing with her, it's his right because it was very common for men to act like that. It sucks, but there is nothing she could have done.

For Aemond there are a couple of things I didn't really understand in your last piece.

1st : why would he be bothered by the fact she's a bastard, knowing he has himself fathered bastards ? Why would he be okay with having bastard sons but not okay being with a bastard ?

2nd : How did he guesses she was a Strong relative ? As I understood the concept of bastardy, even smallfolk could make "bastards". As long are your parents weren't wed, were they from nobility or not, you're a bastard. So even so Handsmaid is the daughter of a strong bastard, unless Aemond knew who Alys Rivers was, there's no way he could have guessed her "strong" blood.

Nevertheless, thank you for your work (I hope my critic won't bother you too much. I'm sorry if it does)

Hi love, I'd be very happy to clear things up a bit, and share my perspective on everything.

I can understand that Alicent's outburst may seem a bit OOC and confusing, and I've gotten a lot of hate for how I wrote her in the fic from last night.

In this series, Alicent has a soft spot for the handmaid (who I've taken to calling Anya, so I will refer to her as that in this specific response). I've hinted at it many times; for example, when she comforts her after learning she is pregnant with the twins. Some anons have greatly complained about it, but I won't change it. Anyways, Anya is a new and young mother, who's given her prince the heirs he has yearned for so badly...but now she is suddenly left alone in the nursery, to tend to the babes without their father. Perhaps that sounds a bit familiar? In Alicent's eyes, she's not only watching her beloved (favorite) son following down the same path as his father and brother, but Anya is also turning into an unappreciated and saddened mother.

I agree that, yeah, the cussing and the loss of composure were probably very unAlicent-like, but everything was done in an eruption of anger and frustration. People are human, and rage can easily change a person into someone else, even if it is only for five minutes. This is something she's likely kept bottled in for DECADES, after seeing herself and Helaena and now Anya suffer at the hands of their men, it just came out.

(And that is why Aemond was so dumbstruck and silent during it. This was so unlike his own mother that even he was left a bit gagged.)

As for Aemond himself:

The main reason for his feelings towards her bastard origins is rooted back in the trauma surrounding his eye. Aemond associates bastards with his nephews, plain and simple. The word is basically tainted and leaves a sour taste in his mouth. Plus, sometimes he is not always thinking straight (allowing those insecurities and resentment to influence his actions) and can be very hypocritical and confusing.

I imagine he is fine with fathering his children because, in his mind, since they resemble him, they're not *actually* bastards. They can pass as legitimate Targaryen babies born within a true marriage. Again, hypocritical.

And how did he figure out Anya was a Strong relative? Aemond is smart and cunning, we do have to give him that. If not in the book (he's dumb as rocks in it), then in here. He knows her mother's name now, and he's going to do a bit of digging.

He'll start putting two and two together as well: her features, the lack of a father's name in hers, Lord Larys Strong's strange soft spot, comments like "the daughter of a milk cow", etc.

At least, that is what I think.

My fic series is not perfect, and sometimes I'll make mistakes or accidentally overlook portions of the plot where it might remain open and confusing. I always really appreciate when people provide me with constructive criticism, as it helps me better my writing. Thank you!

imma need some people to stop acting like tg characters have hurt alicent more than tb.

there’s this weird thing where some people try to “excuse” alicent’s “wrongs”—which is something the writers did themselves with the prophecy instead of exploring aegon’s political claim + the danger alicent’s kids are in imo (im still annoyed with this choice, women are allowed to be angry, why can’t alicent be angry about her abuse and her abusers 😭 the prophecy doesn’t even make sense in this series)—by making it seem like she’s being held hostage or pushed around by her children and father (and any bond she may have with them is conditional—her father sees her solely as a pawn, criston is only there because he doesn’t like rhayenra, alicent is secretly disgusted by her children and would be relieved if she can leave their side as long as she can ensure safety) , and if it were up to her she’d happily side with the same people who ruined her life.

at the end of the day, the only people who stood by alicent’s side and tried to protect her and her family were tg—criston, her kids, even her dad. rhaenyra and co threw her 10 year old under the bus, gaslit and played her in front the entire court, accused her of poisoning/taking advantage of viserys’s illness to take control of the court etc.

like, i’m sorry but if i wanted to watch a woman drag herself because she’s opposing someone who arguably has hurt her more than any tg character (larys has them beat but still), I’d watch a novela. the amount of abuse they put a female protagonist through in order to create drama and extend the series for 100+ episodes only to end it with her happily running into the arms of the same man who publicly humiliated her, cheated on her, used her etc is lowkey the vibe I get from some rhaencient stans nglngl.

(It’s hard out here being a proshipper rhaencient enjoyer…not anymore tho!!)

i agree overall abt alicent being angrier. she should have been more focused on crowning aegon than she was on rhaenyra. she should have been aware of the plot and on board with it. that could have been done without sacrificing her compassion or her nostalgic, residual feelings of friendship and love towards rhaenyra. ultimately this is what happens when you have different writers for each episode and no one gives them clear indications re: where the character is at & corrects the scripts for OOC behaviour. everyone has their different take on a character's journey, but at the end of the day there should be someone with a red pen in hand making sure the development is linear. that's why alicent is bitchy is one episode, then appeasing in the next

Jacegon? Jace x Aegon? Lolol. I don't think I've come across that.

Lucemond... I mean, I'm into enemies to lovers, but I take eye injuries seriously irl, so that's a no go. Luke's kind of a Crab/Goyle 'unskilled bully' to me, and I don't really like bully romance... Light, playground bullying, maybe, but not physical permanent maiming. I just can't get into it, so I filter it out on here and AO3 along with Daemyra, just for my peace of mind.

I'm not a ship hater, really. I'm anti-daemyra because it's built on the back of Laena killing herself and Laenor being exiled, with a bunch of shippers going "good for them," but otherwise, I don't really think about it at all.

I'm not into helaemond or helaegon because I see them as more Hightower-leaning and less indoctrinated into the "incest is good" mindset.

What else?

Jace x Baela could probably work, but imo he's just this hothead who talks the talk but can't fight. Like, the bastard stigma is bad enough, but most lords his age are knights or squires or something. Laenor was out fighting in a war. What does Jace do with his day? It's hard for me to ship him with Helaena or Baela.

If he stood up for her being Lady of Driftmark and just became her supportive malewife consort it could work tho 🤷🏾‍♀️ He's fixable, so idk. With the right tweaks. I've read fics with it and didn't mind it.

I like Alicole, but I also like the platonic co-parenting vibe, and I sort of hc them as two aroace people stranded in Vice City.

I'm weirdly kinda into Aligon.

As one person put it, there's no good incest or bad incest, it's all bad, so don't judge me.😖

Probably a horrible gender bias of mine but I just prefer 'mom x son' to 'uncle x niece' or 'dad x daughter' or even 'bro x sis'. Especially if there's an Oedipus situation in play and the father's a pos and the son feels protective...

(No hate on any targcest ships. I didn't watch Borgias for the plot so I'm not judging anyone 😅, I'm just not interested at all in the canon incest ships offered by hotd.)

I don't really want to see it, because I feel like hotd are setting it up to be super non-con and that they're using larys and dyanna to establish precedence and make it not ooc for either when it happens) but it's interesting/funny to think about it from a one-sided, Aegon perspective where he's like, "Okay, I'm killing dad today and making new laws. I am a father. I have a daughter. Ergo, henceforth, grooming is now illegal. Only sons x milfs from now on."
