Final Evaluation
The brief for this project was to produce a digital lookbook using Photoshop and InDesign to visually communicate an AW23 WGSN trend.
I began by researching a couple of the WGSN trends, before deciding on 'mixing epochs', and creating 3 mood boards in a living room format as an initial starting point for the lookbook. After creating the first mood board, I felt that I needed to do further research to narrow down my trend and solidify what I felt it was trying to communicate to a buyer. I decided that I would focus primarily on Mid-Century and Memphis design, with an emphasis on blending old and new furnishings to create a look that is more eclectic in style and can stand the test of time. I feel that my research was successful in allowing me to decide on a clearer direction for the trend and I think this is reflected in my final mood board, which I developed later on to form the narrative page of my lookbook.
After completing my mood boards, I moved on to the key shapes/pieces and decided to focus on classic mid-century furniture, such as ladderax shelving and Eames DSR chairs, bringing in the memphis influence with bold colour choices and geometric shapes. I feel that this page of my lookbook could be further developed by adding some more accessories either in the mid-century or memphis style, as the page feels quite limited in the number of key pieces shown.
Next, I moved on to the colour palette and materials page of my lookbook, where I also used geometric shapes/patterns to layout the page. I like my choice of a more muted version of a memphis colour palette and the way in which I brought in the key materials through shapes rather than cut out objects. However, I am not happy with the text on this page, as I feel the placement and font choice could be more considered so the text feels integrated with the page, rather than something added at the end.
My final pages were the front and back cover, which I decided would be fairly simple, focusing again on shapes, as this is a recurring motif in my lookbook. I like my inclusion of the black stripes, as I feel this is very indicative of memphis patterns and also adds depth to the page, however I think that the title would look better if the letters weren't so thick, as the black on the page feels a bit overpowering and less like the accent I originally intended.

Eames is a tornado and Arthur is a volcano. Literally. Well, Eames is a man who sometimes turns into a tornado. Arthur is doomed to permanently become a volcano on his 30th birthday. A little crack, a little angst.

Colour Palette and Materials
For this page of my look book I decided to use geometric shapes to show the colour palette and key materials of my trend, as I have tried to incorporate these kind of memphis inspired shapes throughout my lookbook. I decided that my colour palette would include a variety of bold colours, as this is a key element of memphis design. However, I chose to mute the colours slightly, in keeping with the mid century influence and to create a more timeless look, as I feel that longevity is a key component to my trend and that the traditional memphis style can look a little dated. I also decided to include 'midnight black' in my colour palette, as it is often prominent in memphis style patterns, creating a sharp contrast to the bright colours. Black is also evident in mid-century design as a sleek, understated colour choice for metal chair, table, and cabinet legs.
For my key materials I included a terrazzo inspired pattern in the background, which I changed the colours of, using the eyedropper and paint bucket tools. I also included a rectangle of teak wood, as teak is a key material in mid century design and many of the traditional pieces in my lookbook, including side cabinets and ladderax shelving units are made from teak. At this point in creating my page I felt that whilst I liked the use of block shapes to show colour, the overall effect felt a bit flat and wasn't communicating my key materials as successfully as the colour palette. To improve this, I decided to incorporate a circular glass light that I found from 'curiosa lighting', as well as a more textural rug that had the same sort of geometric shapes and colour palette as the rest of the page.

There’s only one word for this location – epic! Photography – Trent Perrett.
After nine years pining after the one Lorne house, architect Josh Crosbie made it his own in 2020.
The house was originally built in 1965, by the same family who eventually sold it to Josh. Its long, mid-century form sits elegantly in the landscape, perched directly above a small cliff on the Great Ocean Road.
‘This house was my favourite house along the whole Surf Coast for many years before I was lucky enough to purchase it… It had never changed hands previously,’ Josh says. ‘I’m extremely grateful and proud that my family are now the custodians of this beautiful home.’
Given Josh’s long-standing love of the home, he wasn’t interested in removing any original features – just making a few sensitive updates to better suit his family’s needs. Mainly, this meant increasing in-built storage, and enhancing outdoor recreation spaces.
The biggest change was the additional of a lower level, to increase space and storage, without disrupting the ocean-facing facade. ‘This repetitious and simple language across the front facade was one of my favourite aspects of the house when I first saw it 10 years ago,’ Josh says.
Meanwhile, a full restoration was undertaken indoors, including new windows, skylights, and painting throughout, thought many original features were preserved. Much of the previous owner’s furniture also remains in place, after Josh purchased a lot of it with the house!
‘Many aspects of this beautiful home to me are very sacred to its original character and integrity – therefore were off-limits for any improvements,’ Josh says. ‘These include the main glass facade that looks straight over the ocean; the original hardwood joinery throughout the house; the original floor tiles through the kitchen area; the sandstone retaining walls that line the swimming pool area and driveway; and the exposed rafters through the whole house that line up perfectly with the hardwood window frame mullions.’
When selling this home, the original owners recounted countless party stories from their 50 years in the home – a tradition Josh hopes to uphold alongside his sons  Levi, Jude, and girlfriend Mish. ‘I enjoy entertaining also, so it’s very sweet that this home continues its legacy.’
Of course, one can’t talk about this home without addressing the STUNNING view of the ocean, which feels close enough to touch! ‘Certainly, my favourite aspect of the house is sitting inside watching the mood of the ocean and the sky changing regularly,’ says Josh.
Every room in the house has its own vantage point of the water beyond the iconic Great Ocean Road, but for the best viewing experience…. head to the outdoor bath!
