{24 mars} Following my visit to the Fashion X AI Touring Exhibition last month, I had the chance to meet Dr. Jeanne Tan at the Hong Kong Polytechnic University (#hkpolyu) and her intelligent textile research/development team in person in the #workshop “AI and Textile for Fashion and Lifestyle.” During the workshop, we were shared their groundbreaking research results – #illuminative Polymeric Optical Fibre (#POFs (Chinese: #光纖)) #Textiles 💡 comprised of a contactless gesture recognition system that change colour via hand gestures and invited to brainstorm ideas among the #designers on the #AI applications for #fashion and daily life. What I particularly couldn’t get enough of was a mini loom given to each of us on which we tried handweaving the POFs with the woollen yarns 🧶 I’m not tech savvy but I’m thrilled to witness the combination of innovative #technology and fashion that has given rise to a brand new landscape of the industry. Before visiting Saint-Hippolyte-du-Fort, I literally didn´t know what to expect from this unnoticeable town in #SouthernFrance. It turned out that it's a hidden gem to which I´d recommend every #fashion/#textile #designer and #fashionlover to make a pilgrimage. Its Musée de la Soie de Saint Hippolyte du Fort (The #SilkMuseum) tells the history of the region being one of the leaders in #silk production from rearing silkworms, harvesting cocoons, spinning silk fibres, dyeing to weaving the yarns since the mid-nineteenth century. For a self-taught designer such as myself, being given a to-die-for opportunity to learn a medieval #handweaving technique and how a #weavingloom actually works has made this trip even more memorable and inspirational for my future projects. Silk isn´t cheap not because of the price but the 3 priceless things, i.e. #craftsmanship, #creativity and innovation that have contributed to the industry over the centuries.

Today on my work desk are the #sketches ✏️ of two newly-designed #dupioni #dresses that can turn a pretty lady into a true #showstopper, all day 🌞 and night 🌙✨

I’ve recently fallen in love with this silk fabric with a lustrous, luxurious and unique appearance due to its irregular slub effect and decided to create a #nostalgic #glam #style out of it for the coming #spring. Do you prefer the figure-flattering #retro day dress paired with a romantic lace veil or the Great Gatsby inspired evening dress that exudes the #1920s cabaret charm, both adorned with subtle pleating details?
