Magpie Lore
The #folklore surrounding one of our most distinctive #birds, the #magpie
So common are magpies (Pica pica), it seems, that it is not so much a case of “one for sorrow, two for joy, three for a girl, four for a boy, five for silver, six for gold, seven for a secret never to be told” as enough for the first team squad of Newcastle United or Notts County. Little wonder that gazza is the Italian word for a magpie. The magpie is one of our most distinctive wild birds with…

Happy Birthday Derek William Dick born April 25th 1958 in Dalkeith.
Better known as Fish, lead singer with the group Marillion from 1981 to 1988, in his solo career he has explored contemporary pop and traditional folk and rock.
Marillion was initially formed as an instrumental band in 1979 by guitarist Steve Rothery, Fish was invited Fish to join as vocalist, and he assumed the frontman position beginning with their 1983 debut album, Script for a Jester's Tear. His strong Peter Gabriel-inspired vocals enforced critics' accusations that Marillion owed more than just a heavy debt to Genesis, but six more albums followed. Musical difficulties between Fish and the band caused him to leave after 1988's Thieving Magpie (La Gazza Ladra).
Fish has continued to release albums and singles over the past 30 years, most were given a good reception by critics but were not successful in commercial terms, In 2005, Fish won a Celebrity Music edition of The Weakest Link, beating Eggsy of Goldie Lookin Chain in the final round, sharing £18,750 for charity.
In May 2008, Fish's Planet Rock show Fish on Friday won the Silver award in the Music Broadcaster of the Year category at the UK Sony Radio Academy Awards 2008. In June 2008, at the New York Festivals Radio Broadcasting Awards, he and Gary Moore jointly received the Gold World Medal in the Regularly Scheduled Music Programme category for their respective shows on Planet Rock.
Fish was offered and accepted a part in the 1986 film Highlander (for which Marillion were also offered the soundtrack) but he eventually had to turn it down, owing to his tour commitments with the band.Queen went on to do the soundtrack.
In 1994, he appeared in Chasing the Deer, a film set during the 1745 Jacobite rebellion, as "Angus Cameron". He also missed out on a role in Braveheart. He spent two days with Mel Gibson in London who kept asking him to be involved but he was committed to touring his Suits album instead. He has appeared in several TV shows, The Bill and Rebus, alongside John Hannah to name but two.
The song most remembered by Marilion is the excellent Kayleigh, the girl in the video is German model, Tamara Nowy, who he went on to marry, the couple divorced in 2001, he went on to wed Katie Webb, his third wife, but they split after just 11 months, Fish cited that she couldn't cope with the isolation of a farming life near Haddington, saying they were only two mile away from the town but during a snow hit winter it was a big two miles. He went on to say "I've had it with women." He has since went through a cancer scare due to an "irregular cell growth" in his throat. This was later determined not to be cancerous.
Derek has an extensive European tour starting in October in Luxembourg followed by over 30 dates on the continent, before retuning home and playing with two gigs in Haddington, then heads down southbefor some two nights in Glasgow at the 02 Academy, thefirst of which, on March 9th, is already sold out.

Top 10 best music🎵😺
----------
Today I decided to write an article about my favorite music.
This is mainly classical music, although there are also well-known compositions. In this collection, of course, not all of my favorite tunes, but only 12 of them.
Tumblr media
-------------------------------------------------
1. "Dance of death"(fr. Danse macabre) - Camille Saint-Saens.
Beautiful music that has absolutely nothing to do with its name. For many Slavic people, it is associated primarily with the song from the cartoon "Dunno", but its full version is completely different from this. The music was written by the French composer Camille Saint-Saens in 1874.
2. Vltava ((Vltava, also known by the German name Moldau) - Bedrich Smetana
Composition from the cycle "My Motherland" written in 1874 by the Czech composer Bedrich Smetana
3. "The Sorcerer's Apprentice" (French L'Apprenti sorcier) - Paul Dukas
The composition was written in 1897. However, the music was most widely known for its use in the animated musical film Fantasia (1940). The most famous work of the French composer Paul Duc.
4. "3rd movement of the concerto for flute and orchestra" by Carl Philipp Emanuela Bach.
The composition was written in 1738-40 by the German composer Carl Philipp Emmanuel Bach.
5. Overture to the opera "The Marriage of Figaro" - Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart.
Composition for the famous opera written in 1786 by the Austrian composer Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart.
6. Suite from the musical "West Side Story" - Leonard Bernstein.
The musical itself gained its popularity precisely because of the melodies. the composition was written in 1957 by the American composer Leonard Bernstein.
7. Overture to the opera Magpie the Thief"(Italian: La gazza ladra) - Gioachino Rossini.
Written in 1817 by the Italian composer Gioachino Rossini.
8. Part 2 of the "Scottish Symphony" - Felix Mendelssohn Bartholdy.
Written in (1830-1842) by the German composer Felix Mendelssohn Bartholdy.
9. 5th symphony - Ludwig van Beethoven.
World famous composition written in 1807 - 1808 by the German composer Ludwig van Beethoven.
10. "Fantasy and Fugue in G minor" - Johann Sebastian Bach
One of the world famous organ works written in 1708-1717.
Tumblr media
--------------------
This concludes my selection of musical compositions. I hope you will enjoy. This is my first article of this kind, so there may be inaccuracies. I look forward to your comments! Special thanks to those who read to the end!✨😃😺🎼🎵

Tag ask game!
I got tagged by: @georgiedoesntfloat Thank you!
Last song you listened to: Intentionally? "The Mothman Song (Believe in the Power of the Mothman!)" by The Paranormal Song Warrior. It's just so silly and delightful!
Unintentionally? The classical piece from this Simpsons meme video. Shazam tells me it's the overture from La gazza ladra.
Last movie you watched: Disney's Beauty and the Beast. It's a comfort movie for me!
Currently watching: Legend of Korra, ESOTERICA, Atun-Shei Films, Law & Order: SVU and Organized Crime
Other things I've watched this year: Netflix's John Wayne Gacy Tapes, a little bit of Friday the 13th Part VII (the first one with Kane Hodder), a bunch of YouTube video essays, whatever my spouse feels like watching
Currently reading: My friend's unpublished manuscript!
Currently listening to: The trans antifascist superheroine you've never heard of . by Thought Slime
Currently working on: Knitting a hat, shopping for Christmas presents, planning an Avatar Legends TTRPG campaign, learning about demonology, procrastinating on writing
Current obsession: My Scarlet Hollow fandom has led me to dabble in Western esotericism. I just ordered a fancy copy of Johann Wier's Pseudomonarchia Daemonum, a 16th-century text that was meant to parody demonological books but ended up being a big influence on sincere demonology and magical practice down to this very day. It's going to teach me about 69 (nice) demons and how to summon them!
Tagging if you'd like to! : @crestoflames , @shanklinthestabpossum, @marshvlovestv, @maytheratseatureyes, @thedeafprophet, @the-defiant-heiress, @nimbexy, @tangled-wires-and-a-dead-heart

3, 10, 17 for the meta oc questions!
3. What is the origin of the character’s name?
i'm not really sure how this differs from the other question i already answered. i will give u a fun fact about magpies instead! they're not actually more attracted to shiny things than any more than dull things, it's just a myth. u may have heard the overture of the opera that's semi-responsible for cementing that myth, la gazza ladra (the thieving magpie). yayyy music history
youtube
10. What is your favorite trait regarding your oc?
i already answered this once, so i'll go with a physical trait this time. i love her big ass eyes, they make her expressions fun
17. List/describe up to five tropes that apply to your oc. They could be related to the oc’s characterization or their narrative arc.
Invisible Introvert - magpie's best discipline is obfuscate. they feel more comfortable when they're not being perceived
Identity Breakdown - they spent so long being nothing but a puppet for their sire that they don't know who they are once they realize it :)
Grew a Spine - basically their arc! see above
Desperately Needs Orders - they pretty much offloaded all their decision making to their sire before they started trying to break the bond
Note Used to Freedom - self-explanatory at this point i think

Tumblr media Tumblr media

What was the song you were listening to when you were wearing the crown? I don't recall but I'm sure it was a bop. In fact, what all music do you like? -🐝
A shortened version of Carlo Maria Giulini's cover of Gioacchino Rossini's La gazza ladra. Alternatively called The Thieving Magpie.
I don't have a specific genre I like; just whatever makes me move.
