this ended up. so much longer than 5 facts xD i love mythology, esp greek mythology lol.

i played around with a couple of different myths, but eventually i settled on hades & persephone bc. it’s my favorite <3

tim is the god of the dead. it’s a lonely and often thankless job, especially as few of the other gods care to venture into his domain. however, it’s also a responsibility he takes seriously. he’s something of a workaholic, actually, though every so often dick or one of his other friends will manage to drag him away to have some fun.

jason is the god of spring. bruce, king of the gods, is… protective of him. he has been ever since jason’s life was almost taken (or perhaps was; maybe jason was a demigod elevated to godly status after death? idk). it’s something jason appreciated once, when things were fresh, but now… he finds it stifling. he’s constantly escaping to the mortal realm, to spend time around humanity and away from the pressures of mount justice. bruce always drags him back, & they fight. loudly.

when the itch to run off again returns, it’s either during or just after one of tim’s rare visits. he’s never spent much time around tim; viewing him as dour, condescending, and stuck-up. however, he knows that bruce never goes down to the underworld, which means… sneaking off to tim’s is a pretty good way to make sure he’ll be able to actually get away for a bit. for as long as he wants, even.

he thought he’d be able to stay hidden. unfortunately, tim’s power down below is absolute, & jason is noticed as soon as he enters… though tim doesn’t approach until he realizes jason doesn’t intend to leave. jason is sure tim will hand him off to bruce & is initially defensive, but tim is genuinely curious about his presence, & gives him time to explain himself.

though tim is loyal to bruce, he’s never had qualms about disobeying him or even flat out lying to him when he feels bruce is being an idiot. in this case, he definitely feels bruce is being an idiot, and so… he invites jason to stay. jason accepts, gratefully—though suspiciously, too.

jason thought he would grow bored or lonely down here (a small price to pay for his freedom) but… he doesn’t. just like above, there are thousands of mortals to learn from and talk to, but here their knowledge spans the breadth of centuries. they’re happy to share with a willing ear, and jason absorbs their knowledge like a flower sucks up sunlight. if that wasn’t enough, the underworld is large, too; there are so many areas to explore & visit.

tim initially believes he’ll see little of jason. at first, he thinks jason will grow tired of the realm, and leave it. then, when that doesn’t happen, he figures jason will be so busy exploring and talking that he’ll have little time for tim himself. he doesn’t mind, really. it’s nice to have someone pay so much attention to his realm and those in it. even nicer when that someone is a god that tim genuinely admires, even likes. he’s been drawn to jason’s warmth and kindness from the beginning; fallen deeper for his wit & intellect at every meeting he attends. so. he’s content to simply keep a vague eye on jason as he wanders the realm, and not engage further.

jason, however, finds himself getting involved in tim’s side of things, too. a lot of it is bureaucracy, which bruce used to let him help with, but these days—they fight so much its impossible. not that he and tim don’t butt heads, especially at first. tim is used to doing everything himself, and jason is used to being second guessed and having to fight for every scrap of respect he gets. but more and more, they start to work together. tim respects jason, even if he tends to take the reins more often than not without realizing it. before long, they find themselves sort of… co-ruling, without even realizing it.

it’s during these moments—and those outside of it, when jason persuades tim to show him the underworld, instead of stumbling around blindly—that jason finds himself falling for tim. he’s not as dour as jason thought. there’s a sense of humor there; with a bit of an edge, that jason delights in. he’s not stuffy, either. he is condescending, sometimes, but that’s mostly the lack of social skills. jason can work with that. he’s dedicated to his job, to the people he watches over. he’s kind, and smart, and he listens. he challenges jason, too. debating him is fun. he doesn’t try to shield jason from the darker parts of the realm, either, trusting that jason can hold his own. it’s nice. really nice.

so nice that jason loses track of time. bruce has been tearing apart the mortal world, looking for him; growing increasingly frustrated when he can’t find him. it’s causing problems. mortals are dying. tim & jason do notice the influx of dead, but are unaware of the problem—until dick shows up. he figured out pretty quickly where jason went, but has kept his mouth shut so far. he knows what it’s like to need some time away from bruce. but now, with bruce’s temper escalating with his worry, it’s time for jason to come home.

jason is furious when he finds out what bruce has been doing. he storms back up to mt justice, tim in tow, to have it out with bruce. it’s probably their worst fight yet. bruce hates that jason has been in the underworld. at least his power reaches the mortal realm. down there? he has little influence. doesn’t help, too, that many of the gods’ enemies are imprisoned down there, possibly including the one who hurt jason. it goes around & around in circles until finally, jason tells him that bruce can shove it. he’s in love with tim & bruce can’t keep him from leaving.

ofc bruce immediately has to try, decreeing that they’re forbidden from seeing one another. jason just grins. after all, he has an ace up his sleeve. he brought with him food from the underworld—or, more specially, some pomegranate seeds. and while staring bruce straight in the eyes, he swallows six of them.

it’s not just that this is a fruit from the underworld, though. it’s one grown by jason, with his powers. his essence, twined with tim’s. and by swallowing that, he’s bound himself to tim—or, rather, to the place of his power. he is half a creature of mt justice; half of the underworld. now it doesn’t matter what godly decrees bruce makes. he cannot keep jason from his own domain.

away from bruce, jason is a little less confident in his scheme. tim, however, is pleased with jason’s solution. (he maybe found jason’s defiance more than a little attractive, too.) he asks jason if he’d like to make his claim on tim’s domain even more official, and marry him.

jason says yes, obviously.

1. There is so much betting happening among the rest of the bats as to who's gonna kill whom first. Nobody thinks Jason and Tim are gonna be able to handle living together.

2. But Dick, usually the first in line to participate in this kind of betting, sits it out. He's still haunted by the screaming from before they figured out what the pollen did...he really can't find any humor in this AT ALL.

3. The leather wristband Jason had Tim attach his panic button to was a gift from Lian. Tim wasn't really paying attention but it's covered in slightly lopsided but very brightly colored flowers. Lian worked very hard to make it extra pretty for her Uncle Jason and Jason loves the hell out of it. It was sitting on his coffee table because the first thing he does when he gets home from patrol every night is put it back on.

4. The more time Jason spends in Tim's apartment, the more the creeping urge to take care of him sneaks in. Tim's place is just sad and Jason is personally offended. Like the guy's never heard of a freaking throw pillow, for crying out loud.

5. This is kind of cheating because it makes an appearance in the (perpetually in-progress) next chapter, but: Tim has a binder full of recipes from Dana. Before everything went wrong, they were working their way through them together while she taught him to cook. Now there's a marker in the middle of the binder that will never be moved, holding their place.

Okay, prompt time! I think I haven't shared any from my saturday piece either, which is just... they're so into each other. They want to kiss so bad, honestly, it's distracting.

He tried not to imagine it, the warm feeling of Jason’s skin against his own, the way it would make heat light up in his chest.

Jason raised an eyebrow expectantly at him, like a challenge, like a dare, and Tim’s eyes dropped to his lips for what felt like the millionth time.

What had they been talking about again? Oh, right.

“You still could’ve caught up,” Tim repeated, and his voice sounded wrong again. There was a flicker of something like disappointment in Jason’s eyes for the briefest moment, before it disappeared. 

Tim cleared his throat, a little smirk crawling back onto his lips. “Besides, I thought you’d have their heads in a bag within 10 minutes.” 

Jason scoffed, shattering the tension in the air between them, and Tim suddenly noticed how abnormal his own breathing was. “That was one time, you know. A guy does something one time, and no one ever lets him forget about it!”

I promised @krizariel that I would transcribe this one next, so here we go for older JayTim schmoop.

Bruce's funeral takes place on a sunny June day. It's early, too early, but living life the way he did and getting exposed to so many harmful substances and radiation has consequences. Everyone in the Batfamily shows up, no matter how strained their relationship with the Wayne name. Some of them come accompanied by their partner and/or children, and some alone.

Tim is on the cusp of forty, settled in his career, and happy with where he is. He doesn't wear capes anymore, instead he helps train younger heroes. He loves knowing that he's doing what he can to protect them and to help them stay alive to help others.

Jason will blow his forty-second candles in a few months. He still runs a criminal empire, but he's gone to university and gotten a degree. He now has a network of charities that are absolutely fronts, but he runs them in legitimate, ethical ways that enact good in the community. He also has two daughters, one in middle school and the other starting high school, and he has kept a good relationship with his now ex-wife with whom he shares custody.

Tim and Jason haven't exactly worked together or kept contact in over a decade. For all intents and purposes, they're now strangers. They have, however, both had the opportunity to work through their issues. Tim, because it was that or dying, Jason because he wanted to do the work for his daughters.

On the day of Bruce's funeral, they sit together and catch breakfast. They're the first ones awake in the Manor after they all spent the night sitting shiva, and their old enmity feels so far away. They actually get up and reintroduce themselves to each other with strong handshakes all around.

They spend the rest of the morning quietly chatting until the rest of the house awakens. Then the day truly starts, and Tim gets to see how soft Jason has turned out to be because… Well. His daughters are here and, as fraught as Jason and Bruce's relationship was, Bruce definitely showed up to be as good a grandpa as he could be for the girls. His passing devastated them, and Jason is doing everything he can to manage his own grief while being as much of a pillar of support for them as he can be.

It's intriguing and bittersweet for Tim because it makes him realize everything he missed when he decided to keep his distance from the family outside of cape work.

Anyway, eventually the girls need a break, and so Jason offers to drive them to their favorite bookshop for a spot of shopping and ice cream. On an impulse, Tim asks if he can tag along, and Jason agrees.

The "new" face helps get the girls' minds off their grief more than the bookshop does. Jason is incredibly relieved when Tim plays into it and lets them ask their questions. Still, everyone definitely has misty eyes when Jason's youngest picks a new edition of her favorite childhood book, because Bruce used to read it to her all the time, and she wants to read it with him one last time.

Having these interactions opens things up between Tim and Jason. When the girls join their other cousins back at the Manor, the two of them abscond to the patio and share their memories of their own fathers. The conversation goes from there to happier memories—childhood foods, shenanigans, broken vases and finger painting—and they find themselves smiling despite their shared grief.

They enjoy each other's company so much that they share phone numbers and make a promise to just... Catch up again. In happier circumstances.

As the weeks go by, their texting history lengthens. They chat every time they have a minute, and it takes a while but they eventually find a shared free spot in their schedules to grab a beer together. It's not a date—not in any of their minds at least, not yet—but they both sense the potential there when they're looking each other in the eye, feeling light and happy.

Eventually, after many months of meetings, they end one of their evenings with a spur-of-the-moment kiss, and they finally put words on the dating they've been doing.

They keep seeing each other for a while after that, now as romantic partners, and they do try out the bedroom when the girls are at their mum's place.

Then, Jason asks Tim if he'd be willing to have dinner with him and his daughters.

(He kept things on the down low at first, and he didn't really advertise his recurring meetings/dates with Tim, but the girls could see the way he smiled at his phone sometimes... and how he actually went shopping for more than his usual boring suits. They're not surprised when he tells them he's seeing someone.)

The girls absolutely hoot when Tim shows up with flowers for them, and wine for Jason and him. They then proceed to grill him over dinner while roasting the absolute hell out of Jason. Jason retaliates with the worst dad jokes and the threat of baby pictures.

Tim has an absolute blast, and that's when he realizes that Oh, it's more than just casual dating. He's falling in love with Jason. And obviously Jason is serious about this too, or he never would have introduced him to his daughters as more than a distant uncle.

The evening keeps going despite Tim's momentous realization. Jason and him start reminiscing about their younger days and the girls give each other a commiserating look of "ugh" at the dinosaurs and abscond to their bedrooms. Tim and Jason end up curled up together on the couch for one last coffee, then Tim heads back home, feeling warm down to his bones.

After that first dinner, the girls keep asking Jason if Tim will be there whenever their dad offers to take them somewhere. They insist on inviting him if Jason doesn't, because he obviously makes their dad happy, and eventually it becomes natural to include Tim in the family activities from the get-go.

The girls know they've won and gotten their dad to stop pussyfooting around his feelings when Jason shows up to his eldest's hockey match hand-in-hand with Tim and introduces him to their mom.

(She's very amused and tells him she's heard so much about him from the girls she already feels like they're friends.)

But… Jason isn't the only one with kids who care about him. Tim, as The Only Cool and Reliable Adult in most of his superhero protégés' lives, ends up being a surrogate father to quite a few of them. It's not rare for him to get random visits from young vigilantes in need of advice/a hug/someone to tell them they're proud of them and doing good.

Jason: "This isn't fair."

Tim: "What."

Jason: "My girls barely threatened you, meanwhile Wonder Girl 13 dangled me off a building because she thought I'd brainwashed you."

Tim: "Don't tell me you're scared of my students."

Jason: "Well, I can't exactly SHOOT them, can I?"

Tim: "I'd be very cross with you if you did."

Jason: "No shit. At least that explains why you were so good with the girls."

Tim: "Hmm?"

Jason: "You're a father of twelve, Tim."

Tim: "... I guess, I am. Though.... More like fourteen now, I hope?"

Jason: "You'll have to sort it out with the girls, but considering they keep sending me links to jewellers, I think it's safe to assume so."

Tim: "Nic— Wait. What?? They want us to get married?!"

Jason: "No, they think you need a new watch. Of course, they want us to get married."

Tim: "...I've never been married."

Jason: "I have."

Tim: "...Would you be opposed to doing it again?"

Jason, putting down his reading to look into Tim's eyes: "Why, are you interested?"

Tim: "...Maybe."

Jason: "..."

Tim: "..."

Jason: "..."

Tim: "...Nevermind this was s—"

Jason, interrupting him: "What's your band size?"

I reread Courting Disaster over the last few days and am having one of those moments where I'm like I wrote that? What? because I really enjoyed it. It really drove home the point that I write what I want to read.

So in honor of that particular point, I feel like some JayTim wedding shenanigans from that particular AU. Enjoy. @krizariel, this is your fault, just so you know.

Tim frowned and wondered if he could use his health as an excuse to get out of this. He was still easily winded thanks to the now-healed collapsed lung, so it was totally valid.

"Don't even think about it," Jason warned, tilting his head so he could glare over the rim of his reading glasses. It was so unfair how handsome he looked when he did that, even though Tim was the recipient of said glare at least once a day, so he should be immune. "If I have to suffer through this, then so do you."

"A wedding planner, though? Seriously?"

"We're apparently taking too long to plan our wedding."

"Says who?" Tim protested.

"Bruce and Alfred. Which means mostly Alfred, who's playing the I'm not getting any younger here card." Jason rolled his eyes at that. "If there's one thing you ever need to know about the Waynes, it's that Alfred is in charge... And we all listen to him with minimal bitching."

Tim grabbed one of the throw pillows on the couch and clutched it tight as he curled up on the far end. "Did he forget I was stabbed and lost an organ two months ago? I'm still not allowed to fly."

"That's why he wants us to plan the wedding out here and to meet with someone local to find a venue." Jason sounded way too calm about all of this. It was their wedding, yes, but they'd only been engaged two months. There was plenty of time.

Unless...

Tim narrowed his eyes and lowered the pillow. "You already picked something out, didn't you?"

A rather sheepish look appeared on his fiancé's face. "Maybe?"

"Where?"

"It's a friend of Bruce's. They have a vineyard and winery in Sonoma that Alfred wants us to take a look at. It's apparently a really nice place and a very intimate setting." Jason used air quotes at the end there.

"I don't want a large wedding." This point Tim was adamant on.

"And neither do I," Jason was quick to agree. "I've made that point very clear."

Tim sighed and cast a glance out the window where fog was rolling in off the bay. The gloom fit his mood. "So when are we going?" he asked with more than a little reluctance.

"Tomorrow afternoon. I'll pick up a rental car from the airport in the morning and swing by here to come get you." Jason wasn't looking at him now.

"There's a rental pick-up three blocks from here," Tim pointed out, suspicious. "Why do you have to go to the airport to get the car?"

Jason bit his lip and cast a sheepish glance his way. "Because I'm also picking up Alfred?"

"Fuck."

The movement sends another wave of jasmine perfume wafting under Jason’s nose. “It’s all work with you, Hood,” he says, a pout on crimson lips. Jason wets his own unconsciously, stomach clenching. “When are we going to get to play?” Tim trails a long painted nail over Jason’s forearm, the slight scratch of it leaving behind a faint white line. Jason swallows, as subtly as he can. The irony of Tim asking such a question is lost in the smoky tone of his voice. “Soon, baby,” he promises, voice rougher than he’d like. He can’t help but lean over and kiss him, right on that red-painted mouth. It’s not nearly enough. “Just let me take care of this, and then I’ll take you home.”

Gonna go obvious with this one again: stalking!! Specifically, Jason stalking Tim. It starts as a canon "I hate the pretender I will break into Titan's Tower and beat him into the ground" but

Jason spends weeks watching Tim and Tim? is hot??

Tim is good at being Robin??? He's so snarky and clever but also a complete disaster?? And did Jason mention he's hot????

Jason was not prepared for this. Jason was not prepared at all.

So instead of making that final step to the beat-down part of the plan, he just...continues to stalk. And watch. And fall in love/lust from afar.

Which is convenient because eventually Tim did notice he was being followed, applied his detective skills to the situation, and realized Red Hood was a) stalking him and b) Jason Todd. Obviously the best possible response to these realizations is to force a confrontation!

Jason, at this point, is a huge fan of Tim's. And Tim is the #1 Jason fan and has been for years, ask anyone!! So Jason's attempt to salvage some dignity by being all looming and intimidating really backfires and only serves to turn Tim on. And what's Tim supposed to do? Not kiss his childhood hero, who's somehow miraculously back from the dead and well within kissing range?

So there's making out and then hooking up and Jason decides the best revenge is really stealing Bruce's Robin. So he does that. #jaytim4life #batmansux

19. What is your most-used tag on Ao3?

Oooh! I shouldn't be surprised by this at all and probably no one else will be. Three-way tie between Angst, Hurt/comfort, and Getting Together 😂

I have to say, I'm a little surprised that unreliable narrator isn't on there too lmaooooo

27. What is your most and least favorite part of writing?

oooh! Okay, favorite part of writing is either going into a fugue state and having something just pour out of me and then rereading it and just. loving it. or getting to see people's reactions to what I write!! I absolutely love getting comments and feedback and just. talking to people who read and liked what I wrote. it's very nice!!

and then my least favorite part of writing is when I get stuck in a piece (which is definitely not happening to me right now nope not at all don't know what you mean). WRITER'S BLOCK IS A CURSE. And also when I just can't get a sentence to do what I want it to do. Sometimes I get stuck on a paragraph that like. objectively doesn't matter. No one was going to look at it for longer than a second but me you know? but that doesn't STOP me from agonizing over it either!!
