Raghunath Parichha
Raghunath Parichha Indian Oriya-language writer
Kabichandra Raghunath Parichha (1802-72) was an ancient poet of Odisha. He was born in Paralakhemundi. He has enriched Odissi music, drama and literature by writing many poems and poems about Gopinath Mahaprabhu. Raghunath Parichha was a contemporary of Gaurahari Parichha, one of the most famous poets of Paralakhemundi. In addition to his poetry, he gained fame as an astrologer and singer.
Life--
Raghunath Parichha was born in Cuttackia Sahi in Paralakhemundi to the famous 'Parichha' dynasty of Paralakhemundi from the descendants of his father Chandrashekhar Parichha and mother Haramani. Raghunath composed the play Mr. Gopinath Ballabh in 1868. It is a high drama and the first play of the Oriya language. The influence of this Shri Gopinath Ballabh play is evident in the Prahlad play written by Gaurahari. Her ex-husband, Lihuri Gopinath, is said to have qualified for the Rajya Sabha and passed the examination. That's why they called it a panda. The word parichha is just a misnomer of the word test. He was appointed president of the Brahmin clan by the Maharaja. .
During the Parla Gundicha pilgrimage, he served ghee to the ruling Brahmins. This was the custom of the Rajarajuda harvest in Parla. Raghunath's ancestor Bakreshwar was a well-known poet of Pandit Parla. Lihuri Gopinath Jiu was his ancestral deity and he performed the Nilasaraswati mantra there. This information is written on the seventh page of his Radhamadhav Bilas.
Title--
Raghunath Kabichandra was awarded the title of Puri Mukti Mandap. There he sang some songs, introducing his deep knowledge. One of the songs is sung in the morning. On 1838, when he was awarded the title, he met Gaurish's Ray, who invited him to Cuttack to greet him.
Composition--
Most of Kabichandra's books are written in Oriya. These published books are Lakshana Chandrodaya, Radhamadhav Bilas, Sangeet Ramayana, Radhakrishna Leela, Taal Sarvasar and Granthodaya. Most of his works are unpublished: Sangeet Ramlila, Sangeet Krishnalila, Sangeet Ratnakar, Basudev Natak, Krishna Chand, Ram and Mukta Natika.
Signs of the moon--
One of Raghunath's major achievements was the book Laksana Chandrodaya. This book describes the subtle features of poetry and music. It consists of inscriptions, prasanupras, rest yati, pradyapadya, chhand, nad, shruti, raga, ornaments and many more. It was published in 1957 by the Odisha Sahitya Akademi.

Night-time stories
Carpentry is one of the oldest profession - my father would blithely state something he had made up, without any wiki references.
Making walls was one of the first things that required humans to work with wood. Its the first use-case of wood working - make a wall. My father would continue, again without any citation. He knew he was treading Trump-wards with his wall talk, but would pretend otherwise.
Walls provided protection against the weather. You could not thatch a roof with wood - it required far more engineering. You can choose two nearby tress and plant some logs to make a wall. Plant the logs real close. Choose logs of same height. Cut off the twigs. Pretty nice lean-to.
Over time,  wooden walls would do more than just protect against winds and sun and rain. They would protect against all water - even dampness from the rain, They would protect against snakes and birds and bugs. But, to do that humans had to learn to cut wood properly. Just, grabbing a good log would not be good enough. The log had to be cut and shaped - Papa would continue.
My father shared lots of anecdotes of childhood. Carpenters camped out at his house in 4th grade for a whole month to make beds, tables, stools and chairs.. Every day he would watch the grey-haired, glasses-wearing head carpenter working the wood. His two young laboring assistants worked with him. There was a lot of cutting and shaving. In 6-8th grade, the house in Virpur was getting rebuilt. The workers were watched all day long Someone had to sit there. Sometimes, he was allowed to, since mum and others had to go to mandir or wedding or something. He would watch the carpenters make the windows and the doors and the scaffolding for the ceiling. Watching all this hands-on, no-power-tool state-of-the-art has made him talk on and on about his evolution theories.
The word-working benefited from advances in sharp tools, especially in the iron age and after. The sharp things being made to cut animals were also being used to cut fruits and branches and logs - my father would conclude dramatically.
Papa: A story I loved to tell my kids was about fire. Awk and Yacc lived in a forest. They used to warm themselves near burning trees. One day, Awk picked up a log and took it to the cave. It was nice and warm, just like our house. Yacc tried out an experiment the next time. They kept the heat going by lighting another log from the dying embers of the previous one. Through many such refinements - fire was domesticated. It was made long-lasting, portable, controlled. It was used for heat and for light. It was used for comfort and safety - keeping wild animals away, clearing grounds, etc. The story used to go on across many nights - with tales of valor and creativity. I used to be careful in assigning responsibility to individuals and to the pair. I used to balance out responsibility across Yacc and Awk. Unfortunately, I did use the gender binary and gave them he and she pronouns.
Papa used to make up these things out of clean cloth. He had not read any of it anywhere. He had probably put together snippets learnt from here and there, and filled in the gaps with that ridiculous leap-of-everything mindset. Once he made up a story of the Invention of the Shoe. Awk and Yacc somehow wrapped some skin around their feet. He had some cockamamie, forgettable story about how it came about - probably full of his do-gooder spiel he kept giving us. But, anyway - Awk and Yacc go through a series of events which end up with the invention of footwear - to protect against thorns, heat, cold, ...
My father told us stories every night to put us to bed. maya, jay, brij - its my turn today - he would call. His mom used to tell stories too. What we got from Amar chitra katha - he got from his mom’s retelling of the mahabharata and ramayana and krishnalila. He had read the whole grimm’s fairy tales - so that was another source. But, he would make up his own stories too. A whole sequence of stories was about Awk and Yacc discovering various things - fire, pottery, shoes, clothes, ... I am sure he meant well, but he sometimes forgot to tell us that this was all untrue. Nobody else knew none of this so-called truth about evolution.
Papa: I have been thinking about evolution for a long time. Like many intellectuals - I have assumed that there is something different about humans from animals. Not that the difference justifies anything apart from a honest living - which even animals ought to have - but nonetheless - I have been ruminating about the difference.
I share these theories with my family. Where I claim there are straight lines connecting dots, they often see a doodle. Maybe a doodle that could be a line if you squinted just so. But, definitely not a line. I am left bemused. It is impossible to prove it - my biggest fan-club cannot buy into it - and yet I cannot stop believing in these crazy theories.
Do my theories mount to much? No. But, they make great stories. And, I love to make them up. It is like drawing for some, music for others. I do think I should stop evangelizing them - but - I always had a bit of a prophet-wannabe in me.
Another set of stories was about going to school. He would insist maddeningly that he went to school on an elephant because he was poor. The rich kids went on tigers. It used to drive us crazy. We kept insisting that it was untrue. He would never budge. There was a bunch of magic schoolbus like stuff he would put in. Elephants were also used for car-washing. There were these lucky days when papa would ride on a friend’s tiger. Oh yes - many of his friends were rich and traveled on tigers - he never forgot to mention that.
There was one story that was not a series. It was a single narrative arc. The title of the story was anmol (precious) ghadi (two meanings - watch and time). It was a story of a child who lost a precious watch and his endless search for it, and the precious things he found in those moments of looking for the precious watch. None of us remember any details. The stories were like mandalas - forgotten soon after being told.
