Mosco Gets His Button Pushed
Edens Zero Chapter 260 Review/Recap
From the moment of his introduction, two things about Mosco have stood out to readers. Firstly, there’s his complete subservience to Sister Ivry of the Shining Stars. Secondly, the big, red button on his stomach that says “Don’t Push.” Sister’s told everyone never to push that button under any circumstances, but never explained why. I speculated that it might…

My updated TBR shelf for nearly the end of Feb!
I definitely had a good reading month, and I’m looking forward to checking out these volumes, too. Currently halfway through Case File Compendium, which may be my last novel for a bit since FF7 Rebirth is here tomorrow haha.

Spotlight Read 2023: Witch Hat Atelier Kitchen
Sometimes you just need something cozy and simple. Whether it’s comfort food or a familiar piece of media. Combining the two is Witch Hat Atelier Kitchen. A cooking comic spinoff by artist Sato Hiromi drawing from the much awarded and popular Witch Hat Atelier by Shirahama Kamome. Witches Qifrey and Olruggio at the atelier cook up a variety of dishes, sometimes shared by the young apprentices too.
In a fantasy setting each recipe, from the sweet to savory, has some exotic ingredients but there’s real life substitutes provided too. I made the Bread Bowl Stew with Smoked Quadryphon & Chrysanthonion, which is actually a very simple classic chicken and vegetable stew.
Though, you do need to know something about cooking yourself to fill in a few gaps. There are also some rather expensive ingredients like dishes using crab or intricate offerings such as a pretty fruit tart. Food truly is center stage too, rendered painstakingly. Overall, the art is in a similar whimsical detailed style.
Yet, there isn’t a lot of overreaching background, characterization, or story to Witch Hat Atelier Kitchen. A more traditional cookbook could have sufficed if the other elements of what made the original series so charming are going to be put on the back burner. (Or will Orufrey be canon one day? My spouse teased me about buying one more gay foodie comic but, it’s not exactly.) Ongoing in Japan, translated to multiple languages, Witch Hat Atelier Kitchen certainly has still proved popular. I know I keep reaching for cooking comics these days.
Witch Hat Atelier Kitchen by Sato Hiromi and created by Shirahama Kamome is available in English, translated by Stephen Kohler, lettering Lys Blakeslee, in print and digital from Kodansha Comics USA
