His Little Doodlebug (Rhett Abbott x Reader)
Tumblr media
Summary: There's a damn good reason you gave Amy the nickname "Doodlebug"
Rhett had always had a deep love-hate relationship with Wal Mart in the month of August. Usually you would go and take Amy on a little excursion by yourself while Rhett and Royal ran down to Tractor Supply to get parts for the neighbors' farming equipment, but ever since you had gotten pregnant, that task had fallen on Rhett while Wes, his best friend, had decided to help Royal.
Amy hurried off towards the clothing section, her little sandals flapping against the tiled floor with her little circus-clown ragdoll tucked under her arm. "Hey, slow down there Doodlebug," Rhett called after her.
Amy giggled, excited as ever as Rhett pushed the cart that already had a few extra garden things in it. He didn't really have much of an idea about what kinds of clothes would be the best fit for Amy, but he was damn sure gonna try.
It was a whole back and forth mess of texting you pictures of all the clothes he could find that hadn't already been cleared out, little pairs of shorts with the lace trim around the legs, pretty little gingham dresses in pink, blue, yellow, green, orange, purple and red, plenty of jeans and little sweaters that would serve her well in late fall and early winter. However, what you knew you couldn't get in the store, you'd make by hand which would include plenty of Irish knit sweaters for Amy and the new babies.
"Hey!" Rhett called playfully to Amy as she zoomed from one end of the aisle and back to him. "Don't you run from me Doodlebug."
Amy giggled again. "Can we get more clothes Daddy?"
"Not right now Doodlebug," Rhett told her. "We've still gotta go to the other place and get your other stuff for school."
"No we don't," Amy giggled.
"Yeah we do, you're goin into preschool at the hippie school where Momma teaches," Rhett told her.
Amy held onto her ragdoll with one hand and her other one gripping the beltloop of Rhett's jeans with her little fingers. As soon as the clothes and the plant stuff had been purchased, Rhett loaded Amy and the bags up into the truck to head for the next destination.
Back into the center of town he went with Amy in tow, to the little shop owned by Mrs. Newman, who in turn would be Amy's preschool teacher. You and Rhett absolutely loved her store and all the supplies she carried, the cozy building with its knotty pine floors, shelves full of yarn, brightly colored wools, stones, books, pastel colored cloth and a whole host of other things that the children at the school you taught at would need for the coming year.
Two boxes of block crayons, a little case of beeswax and a basket of wool later, Rhett finally had what he needed and even let Amy pick a few items for later. He thanked Mrs. Newman, promising that over the weekend he, Royal and Wes would be down to help her husband fix his horse trailer.
Home he went and finally pulled up the driveway just as the sun had begun to set. Wes's truck was no longer there, a sign that he had gone back over the hill to the reservation to bed down his own horses and cattle for the night, yet the porch light had remained on. Royal and Cecelia would most likely be sitting out in the porch rockers, Royal smoking a hand rolled cigar while Cecelia told him about everything that had happened in the day.
"Alright sweet pea, out," Rhett said, opening the truck door so Amy could get out.
Amy practically jumped out of the truck and ran for the house, yanking open the door as Rhett unloaded the truck and kicked off his shoes in the mudroom. The house smelled so good with the steaks just having been pulled off the grill along with the smells of white rice and green beans trailing it its wake.
"Oh jeez! Somebody's happy," Cecelia chuckled as Amy rushed to hug her.
"I was hoping the trip would tire her out," Rhett answered. "Hannah-Banana go to bed?"
"Nope," Cecelia answered. "She just ate, but I'll give her a bath in a few minutes."
"Thanks Ma," Rhett said, hugging his mother.
Cecelia took the clothing and supplies from him to put them away while he made Amy a plate full of steak, rice and green beans for her to eat before her bath.
Upstairs he went to his room, which had become your shared bedroom. Even though you were only five months along, you had already begun nesting, preparing the crib at the foot of the bed for the two little boys resting in your belly.
Rhett wrapped his arms around you and kissed your cheek, his hands coming to rest on your swollen bump. "Boys give you any trouble?" he asked.
You hummed, delighted by the warm breath on your cheek. "Not really," you sighed.
You two were yanked from the moment by the sound of Amy running through the upstairs hall in nothing but her pink wrap towel. "Daddy, can I use Momma's bubble bath?"
You two laughed and shook your heads. "Give Momma a minute honey," you told her.
Amy zoomed back into the bathroom as the bathtub filled up. You grabbed the pink grapefruit bubble bath out of the medicine cabinet and poured a little bit of the slimy pink liquid in for her and watched it foam.
"Guess someone had a bad case of the zoomies tonight," you laughed.
"Yep," Rhett answered. "Guess that's why we call her 'Doodlebug'."

I posted this abandoned 1928 Fairy Tale Tudor in Paragould, Arkansas a couple of years ago, and it finally sold. The couple that bought it, (for only about $55K, I think), just started working on it, and made it it’s own Facebook page. They’ve named it The Schrifstellerhaus.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
They started by tearing down the old rotted wood and replacing it, then pouring a patio.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Next, they had to redo the floors and stain the staircase.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Priscilla, the new owner, researched the original layout of the main room and placed her furniture to try to duplicate it, but says the pictures don’t do it justice.
Tumblr media
She promised more pics soon, but it’s been months. I guess it takes a long time, not to mention money, to fix an old house up. So, we’ll revisit the way it looked when they purchased it. Apparently, the previous owners blocked the fireplace for a heat stove.
Tumblr media
The dining room is at the back of the house.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
I wonder if they’ll save that picture. I would.
Tumblr media
There’s a 70s era powder room.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
The previous owners painted the original knotty pine cabinets a bright red and Priscilla was researching old stoves and repros- they’re very pricey, and the kitchen will need lots of work.
Tumblr media
Look at the cubby in one of the bds.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Looks like the original hardware on the door- they did the blue trim in this room very sloppily. Now, that has to be dealt with.
Tumblr media
Painted over the wood in here.
Tumblr media
I wonder if they’ll strip the doors.
Tumblr media
This must be the main bd. b/c it has this lovely wainscoting.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Here’s a closet going in.
Tumblr media
The bath is in pretty bad shape.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Priscilla said that the basement was the former owner’s hangout space. It sure has a wonderful fireplace, but it needs so much work. Looks like water’s coming in the foundation, too.
Tumblr media
But, the best part of the house is this secret tunnel. Priscilla has a video of it on FB.
Tumblr media
The tunnel leads to the carriage house. Isn’t it beautiful?
Tumblr media Tumblr media
And, look at how nice the apt. in the carriage house is.
Tumblr media
Adorable kitchen- love the sink.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
The carriage house has 2 bds.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Both baths are horrors. It’s a great house, but soooo much work. I’m glad that people who love it and are preserving it, bought it.

Common Log Siding Home Terms You Should Understand
Tumblr media
There are several approaches to building log homes, and each has some specialized terms you should understand. One construction style that is growing rapidly is building with log siding. Two of the most popular woods used today are knotty pine for its cost-effectiveness and cedar for its moisture-resistant qualities.
Log siding is used as a building material for the external and internal walls for many structures. As its exposure increases, its uses become more varied, including:
Homes ● Rental cabins Cabins ● Park offices Garages ● Tiny houses Businesses ● Tree houses Barns ● Retail stores Workshops ● Man caves Understanding log siding home terms will be helpful in choosing the building materials and reading the blueprints for home construction.
Log Siding Terms: The Siding
The best wood log siding made today is superior to old-style plank siding that was slower to install, produced more waste, and showed nail and screw heads. These terms are helpful:
Tongue and Groove – Each board has a groove cut into one side and a tongue on the opposite side for fitting together. End Matching – Each board has a groove cut into one end and a tongue on the other end for fitting together. End-butting – The ends of siding pieces can join together (end-butted) anywhere between the wall framing (studs). Conventional Framing – The standard way to make walls with vertical studs and top and bottom plates. OSB Board – A ¾” thick material in 4’x8’ sheets that is secured to the wall framing. The exterior log siding is screwed into this board.
Log Siding Profiles
A log siding profile is its D- shape, thickness, and width to differentiate it from other forms. Although there are many on the market, four stand out as favorites, including:
Quarter Log Siding is made in 2”x 6” and 2”x 8” sizes in pine and cedar. Half Log Siding is made in 3”x 6” and 3” x 8” sizes in pine and cedar. Premier Deep-D Log Siding is made in 3”x 8” and 3”x 10” sizes in pine and cedar. Hand-Hewn Log Siding is available in all these sizes plus 3”x7” in cedar half log. This profile looks like it was hewn (shaped) with an axe or adze tool.
Interior Wall
Available Surfaces and Finishing
Formation of the log’s shape is not the only choice you have available for your log home. These terms are common among log homes and log cabins:
Smooth Surface is evenly-finished wood and not a rough surface Hand-Hewn siding looks like it was fashioned with an axe or adze tool Sealants are liquids used to seal the pores, tiny cracks, and knots in wood Stains are liquids for coloring the wood to hues of your choice Caulking is a process of sealing joints and small cracks Chinking is a similar process as caulking but used to cover larger spaces between logs Clear Coat is a final finish applied to wood that provides a clear protective coating
Log Siding Terms: Log D-Trims
Both exterior and interior walls need trims to provide a completed or finished look. Log trims are available to match the size and profile of siding you select, including:
Log Trim 2”x 6” is typically matched with quarter log pine or cedar siding Log Trim 3”x 4” is another good choice for quarter log pine or cedar siding Log Trim 3”x 6” is typically used with half log pine or cedar siding Log Trim 4”x 4” is a good option for use with half log or premier pine or cedar siding Log Trim 4” x 6” is best for premier log siding Custom Log Trim is made-to-order in your sizes and specifications
Corner Systems for the Outside
The exterior walls require installing specially-shaped corner logs before the siding and trims are screwed onto the OSB board. Four favorite options are available to fit the style you prefer:
Vertical Corners are simple 6” or 8” diameter logs milled to cover two adjoining corners Butt-N-Pass Corners are tightly pinned that do not need notching and resemble stair steps or ladders Saddle Notch Corners are fashioned with a notch cut on each side of the log so it can be connected to the log below it. It is the traditional corner connection. Double D Corners are virtually the same as D-style corners except both sides of the logs are rounded. Each style of corner is available to match all the log siding profiles and sizes. You can learn more about them at the National Association of Homebuilders.
We hope these terms help you feel more comfortable with planning and building a log home!

Almond Smoked BBQ: Pork Shoulder with Knotty Pine Raw Honey
Are you looking for a healthful almond smoked BBQ recipe?
Want to create an impressive smoked BBQ entree? If so, you don’t need to look further.
The following pork BBQ sensation features Knotty Pine Raw Honey for a sweet and delectable recipe mix that you’ll want to make over and over again. With a combination of sweet and smoky and mouthwatering flavors, everyone will be talking about this delicious meal.
What You’ll Need: 5 lb pork shoulder 1/2 cup Knotty Pine Raw Honey 1/4 cup soy sauce 1/4 cup apple cider vinegar 1/2 cup of your secret recipe BBQ sauce 2 tbsp of brown sugar 1 tbsp each of paprika, onion powder, and garlic powder or 1 tbsp of Knotty Wood BBQ Rub 1 tsp of black pepper Salt to taste Knotty Wood Pellets for smoking the meat 2 forks for shredding the meat Directions: 1. Prepare the Pork Shoulder Trim the excess fat from the pork shoulder. Leave a thin layer of fat. Rub the surface with black pepper, garlic powder, paprika, onion powder, and salt. Or you can replace the onion powder, garlic powder, and paprika with Knotty Wood BBQ rub.
2. Prepare the Smoker Soak the Knotty Wood Almond BBQ Pellets in water for an hour. Then preheat the smoker so it retains a temperature of 225 degrees Fahrenheit. Add the soaked almond chips onto the wood chip tray.
3. Smoke the Meat Place the pork shoulder over a drip pan inside the smoker. Shut the smoker lid and smoke the pork shoulder for 7 hours or until the meat’s inside temperature is 190 degrees Fahrenheit. Add water and soaked wood chips as required during the smoking phase. This will retain the temperature and level out the smoke. (Always keep the pellets in a cool and dry location.)
4. Add the Knotty Wood Raw Honey to the BBQ Sauce During the smoking process, mix the Knotty Wood Raw Honey, the secret-mix BBQ sauce, the apple cider vinegar, soy sauce, and brown sugar in a saucepan. Allow the concoction to simmer over medium heat for 10 minutes or until it gets thick. Stir every now and then to prevent problems with sticking. After the sauce is the right consistency, set it aside.
5. Finish Cooking and Preparing the Pork When the pork shoulder reaches the desired temperature internally, take it out of the smoker and set it aside for 30 minutes.
Next, gently shred the meat with two forks and get rid of any connective tissue or fat. Add in one-half of the honey BBQ sauce to the shredded meat. You may have to add more, depending on your flavor preference.
6. Serve the Pork Shoulder Serve the meat to your family or guests and include the remaining honey BBQ sauce for dipping.
Sidekicks to Your Pork Shoulder Recipe Besides your main smoked entree, you’ll want to add some sidekicks. Use the side dishes below to complement the meat’s savory and delightful taste.
1. A Traditional Side Dish: Coleslaw Coleslaw is a traditional side dish for pork. Because it is tangy–with its mayo, carrots, and cabbage, it provides a smooth and tasty accompaniment. You can also douse the salad with apple cider vinegar to give it additional zing.
2. Nutritious and Tasty Smoked Veggies You might also add veggies like carrots, sweet potatoes, and Brussels sprouts. These vegetables, when smoked,  provide a caramelized sweetness to the earthy flavor of the almond smoked pork.
3. Baked Beans Slow cook some baked beans to support the smoked pork’s nutty and rich goodness. The sauce of the baked beans adds a feeling of comfort that everyone will appreciate.
4. Macaroni and Cheese Creamy and cheesy, you can’t go wrong with this pulled pork side dish. The robust cheese flavor brings out the taste of the almond wood-smoked meat while the creamy texture of the all-American dish contrasts nicely with the tenderized fibers of pork.
5. Smoked Corn on the Cob in Summer When smoking pork in summer, corn on the cob is an added delight. The charred kernels support the pork flavor and add an appealing look to an outdoor warm-season meal banquet.
6. Spicy Cornbread Cornbread made with jalapeno peppers is also an excellent sidekick to pork. The crumbly, sweet, and spicy bread is easy to make.
7. Smoked Baked Potato Smoke some baked potatoes with your pork and top the potatoes with plain yogurt for a flavorful meal. The smoky almond flavor of the potatoes and meat ties the whole meal together.

When in doubt, go inside!  That’s one of my mantras while I travel the country documenting America’s historic mom-and-pop businesses. That mantra more than proved its worth this past Saturday, when my travel pal @hopelessnostalgic and I stopped into Front Royal, Virginia to photograph the Knotty Pine Restaurant and Lounge. It had been on my list of places to shoot in Virginia for a while, its facade a comforting slice of roadside Americana, and when we mapped out our day’s itinerary from our base in Alexandria, we hoped to make it here before sundown. We arrived just as the day’s light was fading fast, but there was enough glow left to produce this pretty scene. But then we poked our head inside – and gasped. As you can see, the dreamy bar, with two lovely hues of blue separated by chrome trim, is a stunner. The RCA clock works perfectly right where it is, even if it’s far from Art Deco. (I adore the 1968 RCA logo, especially when it’s accompanied by the words “Color TV by …”)  And the dining room itself is a cozy space filled with booths and surrounded by, appropriately enough, knotty pine walls. The friendly woman who served me a cup of coffee to power the drive back to Alexandria didn’t know much about the shop’s history, but its Facebook page describes it well enough: “The Knotty Pine is the oldest restaurant in Front Royal and one of the oldest in the Shenandoah Valley. Built in 1938, it was originally a dairy and has not closed its doors for one day since it opened (except for Christmas)” It goes on to describe the part of “The Pine” we didn’t visit: the tavern. “There's a bar in the back frequented by locals and good ol' boys.” It was a quick visit and we were soon on our way, the final stop of the day a memorable one.  Always go inside!  #retrologist (at Knotty Pine Restaurant & Lounge) https://www.instagram.com/p/CZ0RB9-rijm/?utm_medium=tumblr

Transform Your Kitchen with a Fresh Coat of Paint
Tumblr media
DAVID A. LAND
Are you building a new house and planning your dream kitchen? Or maybe you’re craving a fresh, new look for your existing kitchen. It’s true what they say: The kitchen is the heart of the home. It’s where you and your family will spend lots of time, and where your guests will likely end up congregating. It should be a space that feels inviting and relaxing and also delivers the style and personality you want your home to reflect. Do you want a light and airy kitchen? A happy and whimsical space? Or a cozy, rustic kitchen? No matter the look, your starting point should be in establishing the color palette. An all-white kitchen will always be a classic, timeless look, but don’t be afraid to bring in some color, even in a small kitchen. The paint color—even the exact shade of white—you choose for the walls will instantly set the tone.
You're reading: Transform Your Kitchen with a Fresh Coat of Paint
One of the ways to make the biggest impact is to paint your kitchen cabinets. Whether it’s painting a dark wood a bright white to lighten your space, or taking white cabinets to a deep, saturated hue that creates a warm, cozy kitchen, or even a new coat of a bright yellow or blue to add a punch of personality, changing the color of your kitchen cabinets will instantly transform your room. (If you’re planning to go the DIY route, read this article for tips on how to paint kitchen cabinets. Yes, even laminate cabinets!) For even more inspiration, check out some of our favorite kitchens for many more kitchen decorating ideas, including kitchen island ideas, hardware inspiration, lighting, and even some ways to use wallpaper.

Pure Black
When homeowner Bailey McCarthy moved into her century-old Texas farmhouse, the wall were a boring beige and the cabinets, which vary in height, were white. “Painting everything black seemed like a good way to make the cabinets blend in with the wall,” says Bailey. She balanced the dark statement color with butcher block countertops and brass hardware and lighting.

Gray Green
Designer Heidi Caillier chose a soothing green—that is a little bit gray and a little blue—for the Shaker-style cabinets. “It changes with the light,” Heidi says. “It also feels traditional to me, which is what I really wanted.” The color pairs particularly well with soapstone countertops and unlacquered brass bail pulls and knobs. Six-inch terra cotta hex tiles add distinct richness to the artfully layered kitchen.

Off-White
When you have a lot of natural wood in your kitchen, pure white walls can feel too stark, especially if you’re going for a rustic kitchen look. Instead, choose a warm white that has just a touch of gray in it for a color that complements wood tones and works well with other warm neutral colors.

Pure White
There is nothing more timeless, yet completely fresh, than an airy all-white kitchen. The look works especially well with kitchens that have varying textures (both literally and visually), such as the shiplap planked walls and open shelving in this dreamy kitchen, which keep an all-white space from feeling stark and sterile.

Washed Turquoise & Buttery Yellow
To give her kitchen cabinets a slightly weathered look, Jolie Sikes of the Junk Gypsies first coated the cabinets with blue interior oil stain, then used a rag to apply and partially rub off a layer of wood stain. “Embrace color,” says Jolie. “Just because kitchens are utilitarian rooms doesn’t mean they should be quiet, sterile, or boring.” The buttery walls, combined with the natural wood stain on the windows, trim, and beams, create a warm backdrop for the room’s bold cabinetry and accents such as Jolie’s barstool mix—a pair of swiveling red tractor seats plus a vintage vinyl-covered number.

Bright Green
In her South Carolina home, homeowner Lauren Northup looked down for her color play. Taking her color cue from the grass green floors at Thomas Jefferson’s Monticello, she choose to paint the kitchen floors a striking green. “Blues and greens mean rest, home, and happiness to me,” says Lauren. “This color on my kitchen floor is a good balance with the bright white walls and cheerful checked curtains.”

Sky Blue
In their cozy converted schoolhouse project, designers Jason Oliver Nixon and John Loecke of Madcap Cottage looked outside for the kitchen’s color inspiration. They removed the small room’s drop ceiling and installed tongue-and-groove rafters, now swathed in a dreamy shade of sky blue—a design trick seen on Southern porches. “The color draws the eye up,” says Jason, “which makes the room feel like it stretches to the sky.”

Cheery Yellow
This sunny kitchen proves there is no such thing as too much of a good thing. Glass cabinet fronts and white trim, fixtures, and appliances add a punch against the solid color and help keep the space feeling light.

Forest Green
Most people opt for white in the kitchen, but this rustic kitchen is bathed in moodier hues. The paneled cabinets are painted in an earthy forest green while the fir beadboard is a golden brown—giving the 75-square-foot small kitchen a jewel box feel. An ivory apron-front sink offers a burst of brightness.

Celadon Green
In this Massachusetts beach house kitchen, the Wood-Mode cabinetry is painted a pretty celadon green that is crisply set off by a white subway tile backsplash. It’s a pairing that brings a kitchen pretty color without overpowering. Cape Cod artist Tim Dibble custom-carved the kitchen’s slate apron-front sink to incorporate local icons: a windmill, whale, lighthouse, and the word “riptide.”

Bright Yellow and Blue
There’s nothing more appealing than a blue-and-white kitchen. And you can’t beat a yellow kitchen for a happy setting. We say combine the two for a true win-win. This Kentucky kitchen proves the point beautifully with its pairing of a warm blue-and-white quilt-patterned tile backsplash and a light and bright yellowy-green painted island. White wall cabinets and butcher block countertops keep things balanced.

If you need a straight edge on a piece and can stand to have screw holes, or cut it wide and trim the holes off, this is a great method to do so. Typically I'll use my handy dandy jig saw to cut plywood but it's never straight and it leaves a horrible edge. So I'll cut it slightly wide and in this case I use a piece of pine that is (currently) straight, attach it to the plywood and slightly overlap. I then use the edge of the pine against the fence as a reference for straight for the first edge being cut by the table saw. Then remove the straight piece, flip over to do the other edge and you have two parallel edges that are as straight as the piece used for reference. Hope this helps someone. #knotty_woodcraft #makehomematter #pantrydoor #traditionaldecor #architectural #architecturalsalvage #salvage #antique #repurposed #door #port #porte #porta #homedecor #diy #interiordesign #renovation #kitchenmakeover #doorsofinstagram #woodwork #woodworker #maker #woodfinish #kitchendesign #shaker #frenchdoors #pocketdoors #double doors #slidingdoors (at Knotty WoodCraft) https://www.instagram.com/p/CEPXrdej_qN/?igshid=74vaw9sp5ghc

A Truly Authentic Midcentury! Palm Springs Home Is Autographed by Its Iconic Builder
realtor.com
George Alexander is a household name in Palm Springs, CA—in more ways than one. Along with his son, Robert Alexander, he founded the Alexander Construction Company,  which built over 2,000 homes in the Coachella Valley from 1955 to 1965.
When you chat up local architects or history buffs, they’ll often point to the Vista Las Palmas neighborhood. That’s where Alexander built many homes designed by Don Palmer and William Krisel of Palmer & Krisel (known for their A-frame “Swiss Misses”) and Charles DuBois (celebrated for his butterfly-roof design).
However, what makes this particular three-bedroom, two-bath ranch unique is Alexander’s signature on the knotty-pine ceiling in one of the bedrooms.
On the market for $1,695,000 and built in 1959, the 2,000-square-foot home has had the same owner since 1997, says listing agent Shaun Waters of Berkshire Hathaway HomeService. The current owner purchased the place for $220,000 a couple of decades ago.
As for the penmanship on the ceiling?
Waters explains that typically, when the architects signed the wood, as a note to the builders, it was going to be used on a temporary basis.
In this case, the knotty pine, complete with the builder’s autograph, remains intact on the ceiling in the master bedroom.

Seeking to downsize, the current owner of this cool house, with its colorful lime-green and orange paint trim and stone exterior walls, isn’t leaving a buyer with a laundry list of things to do. Renovations are in place and ready for a new owner to enjoy.
“Most of the major work that’s taken place has been between 2010 and 2017,” says Waters.
An expanded kitchen and dining area is one improvement, marked by a large island with white marble walls and gold drawer pulls, along with a dishwasher, sink, and cabinetry.
Pendant lights hang overhead, and foldable doors connect the space seamlessly with the outdoors.
“Homes back then were typically more sectioned-off,” says Waters. “Now we feature kitchens.”
An original stone fireplace is a highlight in the living room. Both of the bathrooms have unusual tile schemes—a shiny yellow-green in one, paired with purple walls and coastal-inspired blues in another.
Fans of Alexander designs will note that the windows throughout are larger than they typically are, which, Walters says,“allow more natural light.”
Two of the three bedrooms feature beamed ceilings and clerestory windows, coaxing in even more light.
Outdoor spaces are a desert delight, including a pool area, pergola, and covered porch, currently used as outdoor dining and lounging space. Connected to the master bedroom is a private courtyard, along with sizable closet space.

Pedigree aside, the ranch style and open layout will make the property attractive to buyers in search of an arid getaway.
“They’re just good, solid easy-to-live-in, very functional floor plans,” says Waters.
The Vista Las Palmas neighborhood boasts a few other notable homes. The “House of Tomorrow,” designed by Robert Alexander, sits just down the street, and it’s where Elvis Presley honeymooned with his new wife, Priscilla.
“It was a playground for the stars in the 1960s,” says Waters. “Everyone seemed to leave the Movie Colony and move into Vista Las Palmas.”
What type of buyer is Waters targeting?
“This is going to be for a full-time resident,” he says. “This home is set with all-new solar [as well as] all-new systems to promote energy efficiency.”
Whether retired or young, he’s noticed an influx of buyers from Los Angeles.
“We’re seeing a lot of Angelenos purchase property in the Joshua Tree area, as a total escape from the hustle and bustle of the city,” says Waters.
For a buyer seeking midcentury authenticity, you can’t ask for much more than this autographed Alexander.
