Sierra - Yes and yes. Sierra was a vigilante vampire hunter before she was recruited by an agency, and she is the sort of person to shoot first and ask questions later. She's honed her skills and is well aware of what she's capable of.

Pete - More than he thinks he is, actually. Pete doesn't see the results of his work as often, given he's on the forensic accounting side of the hunting process, but he's capable of unleashing a lot of chaos on an organization if he finds the right financial pressure points.

Shay - Yes, but he's LESS dangerous than he believes himself to be. Like most vampires who are not turned hunters, Shay doesn't really know what vampire un-life is like, and thinks that he will remain in the bloodthirsty fledgling phase permanently. Thus, his lack of resistance at being taken to what is basically a death sentence.

Saanvi - Saanvi is dangerous if cornered, and she doesn't always realize that until the time comes. She reacts in a moment, without a lot of planning as to her responses to danger.

Wren - Wren is very dangerous, but occasionally overestimates her intimidation factor, which is how she sometimes ends up on medical leave. She's a master manipulator, though, and doesn't often need to rely on her brute strength.

Joey - Joey thinks she is much more dangerous than she actually is, with the caveat that if you are a threat to her family or the people she considers family, she is the shadow you don't see coming until it's too late. But in terms of how dangerous her vampirism makes her, Joey is much like Shay in that she doesn't fully understand how being a vampire can progress and how it can be controlled.

Nico - Nico is dangerous, but keeps it under control. He was a hunter before he turned, and working with a bit of a rogue type of agency besides, so he has a skill set from that as well as his vampire powers. And never, ever, underestimate a threat from the cleaning crew. They KNOW how to sanitize a crime scene.

Robin - Robin's opinion of how dangerous he is shifts over time. Sometimes, he feels like his fae powers are a curse, and he's wondered if he's in some way responsible for his mother's death, but for the most part, he understands his spot in the natural order and where he falls on a 'food chain'.

John - John is dangerous and definitely knows that. He's been trained since he was a child to know how to hunt and kill vampires, and he likes his dangerous side, actively pointing it out whenever possible.

Kira - Kira made herself dangerous. She taught herself to kill vampires, and gained a reputation as a vigilante before being folded into an agency. She's a force to be reckoned with because she's never let anything slow her down, and as a black Deaf woman she's had plenty of things standing in her way.

Emma - Emma is dangerous and proud of it. It's an asset in her line of work. She's got more morals, and more of a soft side, than she shows the world, but she actively projects the image of a heartless, power-hungry vampire to everyone but her closest friends.

Cody - Cody is probably the least actively dangerous to anyone but himself member of the M&S crew. He's been known to make snap decisions and to trust people without a lot of reason given, but that's also how he and Robin met, so it's worked out okay for him.

Maira - Maira is a master of political manipulation. She doesn't need to be physically dangerous to be intimidating. She's good at reading people and using their secrets against them at the right time. Thankfully, she uses her powers for good.

Lina - Lina is dangerous if you do something to make her see you as a threat. She's a journalist, so she's good at playing the long game, but once you are in her books as a villain, it would take a lot to get you back in her good graces, and she WILL dedicate herself to taking you DOWN for good.

Matti - Matti is technically dangerous by nature of what he is, but he's grown up knowing what he is and how to control it. He's like a big dog, looking scary but really just wanting to be friends, even if sometimes that means you get a bit squashed.

Jim - Jim is potentially dangerous, because he has fae magic he doesn't even know he has, much less how to control, but for the most part it's benign stuff like glamours and plant affinities that the danger is in knowing how to use and actively manipulating. He doesn't want to hurt anyone with any of it, so unless it was defending his life, even his lack of control won't do much more than cause some weird looks. If he's put in mortal danger, or one of his friends is, though, there's every chance the magic will break free on its own.

I used to have a dm blog (long since deleted lol) and I’m low key sad that most of the blogs are gone. What are the wildest things you remember during the glory days of the dance moms fandom? I’ll go first: swaggy lee

-the daily wars of screaming about Jill, Jess, Kira and Melissa’s whack season 6 behavior, Kira really had me so pissed of I only referred to her as “Kalani’s mother for like the entirety of season 7”

-the arguments that would get up to like 70 notes and last for days 💀, was it really that serious

-season 7 was such a train wreck but I can’t lie it was entertaining to watch unfold, Chloe coming back, Abby somehow still avoiding jail and somehow filming until she was basically sent away, Cheryl Burke coming for like 3 episodes??!?, it was truly a fever dream of an era

What got you into whump?

I really have no idea, I think the first clear memory I have of enjoying whump in a movie was the torture room scene in Star Wars: The Empire Strikes Back...

What is your favourite type of whump?

OH NO this question! AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA! Okay seriously it's probably either environmental whump like hypothermia, or a good old fashioned whipping. Either one of those is basically guaranteed to get me.

Least favourite type of whump?

Anything with permanent major character death. (Vampire characters excluded, that's good angst). I like it when everyone's around later to celebrate a victory and comfort the damaged person.

What do you wish you saw more in this community?

Whump content for smaller/older fandoms. However, this is because I am IN a lot of small fandoms at the moment!

Emotional or physical whump?

I slightly gravitate more toward physical, I like my characters both damaged AND angsty! I tend to write more purely physical whump than purely emotional whump, but most of the time it's a blend of both.

Opinion on illness whump?

I've grown to love it more lately! Used to be kind of meh about it but I have become more fond of it recently, especially the caretaker aspects of it.

Opinion on whump without a whumper? Ex: Whumpee falling into an ice-cold river and getting hypothermia.

Excellent!! I love environmental whump SO MUCH! It's fun to write a scenario where the world is LITERALLY out to get a character, whether that's in a wilderness survival scenario or they're trying to eke out a life in a harsh city.

How many whump related ocs do you have? How many have you posted?

I don't really have any specifically whump OCs, but I have a lot of OCs that I've been really mean to in my original fiction! Off the top of my head I've got Angus Robinson, Kira Burke, Jesse Baumgartner, Amy Sherwin, Joe Phelan, Matti Brinkerhoff, Jim McBride, and Will Bauer whose lives I've made pretty hard for them...

2. Tell us about what you’re most looking forward to writing – in your current project, or a future project.

There's a scene planned for a future one of the Whumptober snippets that is going to be REALLY FUN, as a matter of fact yesterday's fic is a bit of setup for that, giving a little background as to the hunting style Sierra was first trained in, and how ruthless she can be when she feels like she's doing the right thing...and woe to the vampire who underestimates that...

6. What character do you have the most fun writing?

That seems to change on a regular basis, but I think one of the most consistently fun ones to write for me is Kira Burke. I like getting into her head and the ways she sees the world. Plus, it means I get to research ASL and how it fits into the hunter world!

20. Tell us the meta about your writing that you really want to ramble to people about (symbolism you’ve included, character or relationship development that you love, hidden references, callbacks or clues for future scenes?)

One of my favorite things about Compass is how over the course of the story, the perspective of which character is in fact the real 'monster' shifts. (Which is probably because I didn't actually know any of that was going to happen when I started writing). I always like playing with the concepts of monsters, but this story really drove home how much of what we see as monstrous is our own perspectives.

As for character references/callbacks, I haven't written him in YET but I love the idea that Sierra sees the ghost of her father Gabe once in a while, watching over her, but doesn't immediately realize it's him, partly because he appears to her as he would if he had lived to be her father because that's how she imagined him before she knew who he really was, and also partly because she has managed to give a GHOST grey hairs with the shenanigans she gets into!

🌻 What little things do they notice about people or the world around them that make them happy? What tiny little treasures do they find in the normal every day that makes the world seem a little brighter for them?

Since there wasn’t a specific OC mentioned I’ll do a few for all of them!

Robin: Robin sees little things growing. Plants pushing their way between a sidewalk and a wall, the kittens born in a cardboard box behind a dumpster, the potted plants on people’s windowsills or desks. It’s a nice reminder that even though life in the city can be hard, life and nature can still find their ways in. 

John: John notices when people go out of their way to do something good. When someone picks up the trash on the sidewalk and tosses it into a garbage can. When someone stops and talks to a homeless person and buys them a sandwich. When someone steps out of line to let another person go first. Part of it is that his family raised him to be polite, but part of it is that he likes the reminder that the good things in the world are worth fighting to protect. 

Maira: Maira notices the smell of baking. Her parents always took her to a favorite bakery near her house to celebrate when she was released from a hospital after yet another of her childhood surgeries, so she’s come to associate the smell of baked goods and coffee with recovery and being able to go home. It never fails to cheer her up. 

Kira: Kira notices when people are expressive. She’s learned to read people’s faces as she watches them sign or speak, and she finds understanding easier when people show their feelings in their expressions. She’s also adept at picking out a fellow signer from a long distance, she notices whenever anyone talks with their hands, signing or not. It’s so rare for her to find people who actually communicate primarily in ASL that when she does meet someone she’s instantly delighted. 

Cody: Cody notices what people do to the books he works with. When books come back with dog-eared pages or highlighting or notes in the covers. Most of his fellow librarians are very irked, but Cody always likes seeing what people found interesting in books. He’ll flip through them on slow days just to see if he can find a marked up page, he always feels like it’s a glimpse of the world through someone else's eyes. 

Emma: Emma notices trust. It’s a rare thing for her to see in anyone anymore, since she’s been turned. John Stoker is one of the few people who will turn his back on her during a conversation, and it’s more reassuring than she ever would have expected to be reminded that he’s certain she won’t harm him.
