the way Kusanagi has been able to take Hiryuu castle & transform our perspective of it without spending hardly any time there before now is incredible. it used to be this place of comfort, of happiness and security especially for Yona, but as we learn more about the corrupt government and our perception of King Il changes to become more ambiguous and obscure, our view of the castle changes too. by the time the Happy Hungry Bunch are there it has this enclosed, confining feel, and there’s a sense of discomfort as Yona realizes her safe place in childhood is now a place of danger for her. the dragons even talk about how safe they feel and how that’s worrisome because they’re technically in enemy territory. it makes a sense of dissonance, creating a creepiness that attaches to the castle walls that seems to close in on Yona, keeping her separated from her loved ones. it’s a great contrast/parallel to Yona’s own change over the series and how she’s growing further from the naive princess who once lived in that castle

This aside, I genuinely hope for a good ending for him... I don't want him to just die... it's just too tragic considering everything he had (and still has) to go through. And it wouldn't feel like a proper conclusion to his story in my point of view...

I love the first time Soo-Won supports Lili.

It feels like an overreaction to burst into tears over, essentially, "Go for it," but makes sense when you realize no one takes her seriously.

Her father, Tetora, and even Yona view her as someone in need of protection. They coddle her.

And then here comes Soo-Won, telling her she's capable of making a difference.

That she did make a difference. He acknowledges her strength and believes in her with ease while people closer to her struggle to accept that she's useful.

The little talk between Soo Won and Hak

It is hilarious that Hak does not understand, that Yona is even now not able to rule alone, let alone before her 16 birthday when she lived as a pampered princess.

The people of Kouka do not deserve a “potential candidate”, but a capable ruler. Soo Won is not able to foresee the future...Yona could have even been crushed by the truths she had to learn...I do think it is hilarious.

And no...Yona is not Soo Won´s equal...at least not yet. She has much to learn until she is ready...And it is not selfish of Soo Won to make her queen.

She can literally not take the offer...and Soo Won does not need to care...he is dead then...Should the living fight...He has done enough.

Soo Won helped Yona greatly as much as he hurt her...The kingdom would have been shattered if he had not acted...

And honestly...Soo Won is dying...why does Hak just selfishly think about “his dream?”...Does he think that Soo Won only exists to please him? I mean that is selfish...just saying.

This is going back to my theory about why Hak is the shield and Yona is the sword-wielder in the prophecy

“I’m fine with being a shield, but??”

Yona: “Let me stay by your side. I will fight.”

She fights to survive, to protect, to not bow to unjust power. That’s her whole schtick.

Here’s the thing: Yona has always been said to be the “girl who takes up the sword” many times in the narrative, right? The first time we see her, she’s holding a sword (maybe in the prophecy) in the time-skip

She uses a sword to cut off ties with Soo-Won (her hair!!!) and takes up a weapon to protect Hak.

AGAIN TO PROTECT HAK OK.

Also, do you guys remember that scene of the two in the rain? I always found that scene suspicious... it’s the dialogue in Japanese. They use the same words for “Sword” and “shield” as sword and shield in the prophecy.

Do you see that mutual intention to protect the other??? To make sure the other never dies??? To make up for the lack of Su-Won protecting either??? They have to protect each other LOL and it’s that talk about using swords (Yona) and being a shield (Hak) that’s super sus. This is in chapter 47 so talk about foreshadowing, I’m sure Kusanagi may have been planning this out all along.

But seriously, do you see how the two are like a team? We always talk about how Hak is trying to protect Yona, how he’s always telling her to get out of the fight and tend to the others to protect her... but remember that Yona lifted weapons to protect him too.

This chapter is definitely one of the first times I see Yona actually actively aiming to fight with Hak in a battlefield. She’s not being protected by the dragons, she’s fighting fucking Chagol, emperor of Kai and has Hak’s back.

I really like this... this idea that Yona is slowly aiming to getting closer to Hak’s position of physical/fighting strength while Hak is getting closer to Yona regarding social standing (like the guard/servant thing has to go by the end ok geez, I never liked that)

The whole thing about the two of them protecting each other (juxtaposition I see you Kusanagi, classic storytelling foreshadowing/symbolism!!!) like sword and shield, two peas in a pod, they’re on the same team!

I feel like this is all culminating into something greater, like we are reaching the climax of the whole story. Yona, Hak and Su-Won are all in one place, defeating the big bad, and it looked like a first victory in a while!

Hak was also shown to protect Su-Won and Yona has also been protecting Su-Won so I feel like he is the king guys, personally. That’s what I’m theorizing.

Also idk if y’all ever read Berserk which AnY is kinda holds parallels too and even the author of Berserk liked AnY, and there’s stuff about Casca basically being Griffith’s sword so like idk i mean Griffith/Casca/Guts holds similarities to Su-Won/Yona/Hak right?

It was announced to the public that Yuhon’s death was a tragic accident, and considering the location of the incident according to Keishuk’s memory, the announcement should have been something like “The war hero died having fallen off a cliff~” and Soowon probably heard that “official” version millions of times due to his father’s renown…
