TRAVERSE - Chapter ²
(manhwas x reader)
Your first meeting with Bak Yerim is honestly not that exciting. Let's rewind back.
As it turns out, you were at the part of the story where Han Yoojin is trying to search for the girl, Bak Yerim to become his bodyguard so he could escape his brother from trapping him on house arrest.
While following the two men, pretending to not know who these two are, Han Yoojin offers you to try food from different stalls to which you, want to agree but pretend you're not hungry. Crying on the inside that you have to refuse free food murmuring, ''System, you're so cruel... How does not eating play a damn part of the story..!'' The System send secret messages to you even though the both of them can't even see it, "Have you forgotten? You'll get to eat more meat later." "Oh shit, you're right," you immediately recover, worrying the two men.
Suddenly, as Han Yoojin tried to convince you to try the corn dog in his hand once more, someone burst out of the building beside you three. Yells erupted from a girl with messy shoulder length hair as well as from the older man in front her. The girl took of her apron and throw it somewhere, dashing away quickly from the man. You grab the protagonist's arm firmly to pull him back from the girl accidentally bumping into him, hoping this simple action doesn't affect much.
Luckily, you noticed his gaze on his her so that means that he still saw who it is. Letting go of his arm, Han Yoojin tried to reach out towards her - politely calling out to her even though she had zoom past him and is now far away. "Sorry but please hold on to this!" He didn't have time to look back at who he hand over the corn dog to, before he immediately dash after her. Leaving you with the bodyguard and with a corn dog in hand.
Your brain tries to process the fast pacing before it clicked and you realise something. 'Wait, I'm not getting any barbecue!!' Your figure slumped in disappointment at that. 'Damn you system!!' You yell in your head, munching on the corn dog in your hand sadly. "I didn't expect you to not run after him?!" The system merely retorted in panic and disbelief. Kim Sunghan saw your sad figure tries to pat your back awkwardly to comfort you even though he doesn't know why you're sad. Maybe it's because you're separated from Han Yoojin? Are you that attached to him?, is the question that ran around his mind when looking at you - sweat dropping.
Soon you both started to went the way he went to catch up to him. Unfortunately as soon as you reach there, there's a monster outbreak. While, even if you expected this, experiencing it in the flesh is more terrifying than when you saw it when the story got implemented into your head. 'No! This is not the time to get scary!' You stand your ground while Kim Sunghan entered the barbecue joint of where Han Yoojin and Bak Yerim to warned him and get him somewhere safe. 'This isn't your first dangerous story so don't you fucking get scared now!' You clenched your first, glaring at the monster before turning around to follow the three characters when you noticed them leaving.
Ding!
That's the 'new task' notification as soon as Kim Sunghan activated his skill, [Terra Shield] which created a wall. In the midst of it all with everyone panicking and Kim Sunghan trying to save everyone by trying to attack the monster, you glanced at the screen beside you to look at your task;
[NEW TASK: ACTIVATE SKILL BY GETTING HURT BY THE MONSTER AND PRETEND TO PANIC ONCE ACHIEVED SKILL.]
You're fucking kidding me, you sneered. Looking around in panic, trying to think of a plan, you saw the girl from before tripped. Seeing the opportunity, you were going to replace Han Yoojin and shield her instead without a shield that is and with your body. You immediately rushed towards her but when you saw the protagonist running towards her to help, you secretly kicked a rock towards him to make him fall and slide to a crouch beside the girl who is still on the floor, looking at you in shock.
Unfortunately for you, because of your need to finish your task impulsively without planning ahead quickly, the monster's tendrils had hit your back so hard that it created wounds and almost made you stagger forward, falling onto the girl. "Run! Get to a shelter now!" You yell as you picked the girl off her feet.
{ANOMALY SKILL [MORPH] HAS BEEN ACTIVATED!}
{CONGRATULATIONS ON YOUR AWAKENING, [NAME]!}
You can feel your arm change into the same tendril of the monster, an itching pain struck all of your being but you couldn't scratch the itch because it felt like the itch is inside you. You want to scratch your skin off the unpleasant feeling. It's disgusting. DisgustingDisgustingIt'sDisgustingDISGUSTINGGETITOUTOFME—
Your tendril arm impulsively grabbed the shock Han Yoojin by the waist and pull him into you. You finally snapped out of your discomfort when you saw the incoming man towards you and immediately booked it with the girl in one hand and the protagonist in your monster arm. Not giving any attention towards both of their reaction.
[TWO TASKS COMPLETED:
MAIN TASK COMPLETED: UNLOCKED YOUR AWAKENING!
HIDDEN TASK COMPLETED: MAKE THE CHARACTERS SAW YOUR AWAKENING!]
You reached the shelter in time frantically asking the girl, "That's an underground shopping centre is a shelter right?!" "T-that's right!" The girl stammered as you dropped the man off, letting him go from your monster grip. As your arm morphed back into your human arm, ordering the girl to, "Get down there!" The protagonist seemed to be lost in thought, to which you assume is him trying to think of a plan. The girl retorted - concerned, "What about the both of you?!" "I..." your words died down on you. What are you doing? Why are you even contemplating this? This isn't your place or right to intervene. You weren't supposed to intervene so why did you do that?
"I need to get back there!" Han Yoojin interrupt your spiraling thoughts. "I.. I will help as well!" Your shaky voice called out to him. You can worry later, you still have a story to continue. "No! [Name], you're injured and I can't have you in any more danger than now! I know you got your awakening but you can't seem to fight or control your skill yet!" He scolded you, grabbing you by the shoulders to stop you from forcing yourself to keep up with him and making you sit down on the floor, leaning against a wall. He lets go and tries to turn to run back towards the scene before Bak Yerim grabbed his his forearm exclaiming, "Let me come with you! Help me awaken my powers! Then I can fight with you!" Han Yoojin denied her, "What? No! You haven't even signed the contract." You silently grimaced at the pain on your back and hearing his words, 'THAT'S WHAT YOU'RE WORRIED ABOUT?!'
You couldn't listen for too long as your brain turns to mush and all your hear are static buzzings. You could barely even hear the conversation anymore.
"----- awakening -------- fighter? ------ just ----- at [Name]! ------"
Your vision is starting to blur but you still managed to grip on the last bit of your conscience.
"What --------- chance ------------ not to ------- battle ------------! ------ never forgive ---------- fight -------! Let ------ take care -------- safety ------- ?!"
With that, you see how Han Yoojin dashed back towards the danger and how Bak Yerim seems to feel saddened by his words that you cannot hear but you know what he has said. After all, the system has implemented the story into your head. Coughing, you called out to the girl, "Hey kid..." She looked at you, remembering you were there and crouched down to check on you while asking you if you are okay and if you can still move and hide in the shelter. You stop her rambling with a week chuckle. You weren't going to die anyways so you said to her, "Leave me here and go..." "W-what?! But I can't just leave you here!" The girl yelled in disbelief at your words.
You look up into her eyes and determinedly say, "Go and show him how strong you can be at moments like these... prove him- prove everyone wrong..!" I feel disgusting, you thought. The girl hesitated before she immediately nodded. However not before she managed to get you to safety and hidden well from the monster, she rushed off towards where the protagonist have went.
'I'm sorry that I don't feel genuine for you but I know you'll do great,' With that final thought directed to her, you finally fell unconscious.

Drunk Yoojin is so funny. In the scene where Sunghan asks Yoojin out for a drink and when he disables the poison resistance skill, Sunghan describes him as someone who speaks clearly and walks straight without swaying. Only his empty eyes and the nonsense he utters when confessing his love to Sunghan indicate that Yoojin is drunk.
And then Geunseo throws Sunghan's answer in us face. His answering confession made me want to hug that teddy bear 🫱🐻
The way Sunghan loved his grandfather makes me soft.

Bring Out the Dead Man
Sctir fanfic multi-chapter fic posted on ao3 by voolfman
Chapter 4
Anxiously, Yoojin drummed his fingers in a tight and fast tattoo against the top of his knee as he waited for the eternity to end and for the doctor to come back so that Yoojin could check up on that Myeongwoo and make sure someone else had not in fact bled out in front of him and well on him in the span of less than a week-
“Mr. Han,” and wow, Yoojin had not even noticed the doctor entering the room. Maybe he had used more mana than he had intended. “You have a clean bill of health,” the aging doctor monotoned, fixing his rimless bifocals, “There’s no no need to make another appointment unless something else comes up. Thank you and have a pleasant rest of your day.”
“Thank you, Doctor,” Yoojin called to the quickly retreating man, grabbing his crutches and meeting Sunghan right outside the doorway. “Shall we go check on our fallen rockstar?”
Sunghan quirked his eyebrow up at Yoojin. “He’s two floors up in room 649. He’d lost a lot of blood and was pretty dehydrated, but they expect him to make a full recovery.” He pressed the elevator button and Yoojin let out a pent up breath as they were lifted to the injured man’s floor.
As they stopped in front of Myeongwoo’s door, Yoojin hesitated as he internally debated the wisdom of what he was about to do, but he clenched his fist, his nails threatening to bite into his skin, and knocked on the door.
For what felt like five years, but could have only been five seconds, Yoojin’s stomach roiled anxiously before a thin, reedy voice called out, “Come in.”
Yoojin gently slid the door open, “Hello! Glad to hear you’re going to be on the mend…Myeongwoo?”
The hunter, who was now sitting up somewhat in the bed in the brightly lit hospital room, raised his eyebrows almost up to his hairline as his fingers gripped the sheet. “Yes? Do I know you?”
“Ah, personally? I doubt it,” Yoojin chuckled quietly and somewhat derisively, “But I did happen to catch you before you tried to kiss the pavement?”
Myeongwoo’s eyes grew to the size of saucers, and, when not hidden by the stringy carpet of hair, Yoojin thought that he had nice eyes. Kind eyes. “You..helped me?”
“Well-” Yoojin scratched the back of his neck, trying to hide the slight redness that was creeping up it - “Mr. Kim here did most of the heavy lifting, really, I just became a cushion…”
“Thank you!”
“Whoa! You don’t need to bow-”
“Thank you-”sniff- “really!”
Panicking slightly, Yoojin scrambled up to the crying man’s bedside, “Hey! Uhh hey-hey, it! It’s okay! Don’t cry! You’ll open your stitches! I’ll uhh I’ll be back tomorrow…”
That got the watery mess to calm down. Wiping his tears and blowing his nose into the handkerchiefs Yoojin was handing him, he finally choked out a response. “Really?”
Internally heaving a massive sigh of relief at the fact that Myeongwoo was no longer sobbing his eyes out over an act of general, human decency, Yoojin grabbed his crutches and ruffled the man’s hair before it occurred to him that Myeongwoo was probably the same age as him (old habits die hard) and did his best to act casual despite his faux pas. “Yeah, really. Rest up, eat well, and we can talk tomorrow. It was nice to meet you, Myeongwoo.”
A starstruck gaze stared up at Yoojin similar to the likes of a kid doing his best to stay up in the hopes of meeting Santa Claus. “It was nice to meet you, too…?”
“Yoojin,” dripped hesitantly off of his tongue.
“...Yoojin,” Myeongwoo mumbled as his eyes drooped and he fell asleep.
Turning to Sunghan, Yoojin put his finger to his lips in a shushing motion and silently hustled the two of them out to the hallway.
“Phew,” Yoojin leaned against the wall, “Sorry, I hope you don’t mind if we come back tomorrow? I mean, I’m sure he’ll be alright, but…”
In the silence that followed, Yoojin was sure that Sunghan was thinking of a way to bring down the hammer of Yoohyun’s absolute rule. Honestly, if this kept up, Yoojin loved the kid, but there really was a limit - "I… would like to apologize.” It was a low rumble, a quiet admission, a gut punch that stole the breath from Yoojin as his weight was kept hold by the wall and his crutches. “I may have misjudged you.”
"...nah, I acted outta line at some points.” Wild how your whole perspective can do a 180° once you find out that your only remaining family member didn't immediately abandon you as soon as they possibly could. "Thanks for looking out for Yoohyun, though. He's always been a quiet kid, so appreciate your taking care of him."
An ever so slight smirk snuck onto Sunghan’s face as the two started to pick their way back to the car, “I only picked up where you left off. I can see where the Guildmaster picked up some of his more… unique quirks.”
“Yoohyun was a perfect child! What are you inferring?” Yoojin smashed the elevator button grumpily. Yoohyun was just a little emotionally stunted, that was all.
Instead of answering, Sunghan only chuckled and stated that Yoohyun was a very good Guildmaser and that he was incredibly lucky to be a part of the Hayeon Guild. Which was an obvious sentiment because of course Yoohyun was running Hayeon well, he was Yoojin’s perfect little brother who was standing in the kitchen cooking when they arrived back at the apartment.
“Why’re you here?” Yoojin gasped and raced across the apartment as fast as his crutches could carry him. The kid had at least five more days until he was supposed to have finished the dungeon.
Yoohyun turned away from whatever he was frying in the pan to speak to his brother.“I live here-” the spatula dropped from his hand and splattered sauce all around the stovetop. “Hyung! You’re covered in blood! Mr. Kim-!”
“It’s fine. It’s not mine.” Yoojin brushed away his concerns to pull Yoohyun close and examine him, pulling back his sweater’s sleeves and reaching up to tilt his brother’s face this way and that. “Not the point. Did you rest at all in that dungeon? It looks like you’ve got quite a pair of eyebags-” Yoojin bit his bottom lip, “You should’ve been in there for at least a week longer!”
“It wasn’t a difficult dungeon.” Yoohyun squinted in mild annoyance at Yoojin brushing off his own concern only to absolutely baby Yoohyun. Hypocrite.
“It wasn’t- It was S- rank!”
“An easy S-rank.” Yoojin called bullshit on that lame excuse.
“...an easy-!” No, Yoojin was going to step back. Yoohyun was 25 now. He was 25 and alive and Yoojin was still going to worry, wasn’t he? “ Anyway, while you are resting up, Yoohyun-” and you are going to rest was unspoken “- I’m gonna have to head out tomorrow.”
“No.” And that’s final, was left unspoken for him.
“Yoohyun,” Yoojin shook his head, it wasn’t like he was requesting to go into a dungeon, “I’m going to visit a friend I saw in the hospital.”
The disbelief was abhorrently evident on Yoohyun’s generally impassive face. “You … have a friend in the hospital?”
The silence following the question could have been compared to the vast, unknowable solitude of of the universe, only broken by the gentle and playful sizzle made by the oil in the pan. “You know what? That’s so rude. I have friends.”
“...” Yoohyun seemed to think that silence was the better part of valor in this scenario and pushed around the pork belly so as not to let it burn.
Refusing to back down, Yoojin turned to the man who had been accompanying him all day and to all of his past trips to the hospital for the past couple of weeks. “Mr. Kim, back me up.”
Sunghan, however, would never lie to his Guildmaster. “You met today.”
“And I saved his life, hence the blood,” Yoojin gestured to his ruined clothes, “ his blood. We’re friends.”
Yoohyun shot his Second in Command a concerned look before turning all of his worry towards his brother.“Hyung…”
“Mr. Kim will be with me, and Myeongwoo’s an F- rank, so it’s fine.”
“Fine.” Yoohyun could tell that Yoojin would not back down with this. He’d let him go, just this once, though. “Just be careful and be back before dark.”
Oh, how the tables turned, or at least that’s what Yoohyun thought. Really, was he that naive? Yoojin was 30. He was an adult. “Are you giving me, your older brother who raised you, a curfew?”
“I made lunch, Hyung-” the adorable little bastard had plated the food and it looked divine, holding it out to Yoojin.
“Your attempt at changing the subject is successful for the sole reason that I don’t want to fight, but I am going to the hospital tomorrow. You have work to do anyway. And for pity’s sake, make sure those under your care are alright after going through an S-rank dungeon at such a reckless speed.”

To Sung Hyunjae: Mana and Under The Skin.
(Blinding terror rips through Hyunjae, and running on pure instinct, he grabs Song Taewon’s arm and wrenches him back.
Poison spews past them, bare inches from their skin, and Hyunjae’s blood turns to ice.)
*
Han Yoohyun is quite the interesting little thing, and when Hyunjae is summoned to meet his elder brother, he’s almost looking forward to it. Yes, the meeting is to judge his suitability as a teammate for Yoohyun—a high bar to meet—but who would give up an opportunity to meet the Beast Lord in person?
So he goes.
The following things happen in quick succession:
He walks through the glass doors of the Dodam building at Yoohyun’s side.
His surprised gaze lands on Han Yoojin, standing languidly behind the elevator doors opening across the lobby.
He hears some absolute idiot say to their guildmate, “and anyway, that freak brother of his might as well be one of his baby monsters—”
He sees Yoohyun’s face twist out of the corner of his eye.
And then, all at about the same time, Han Yoojin’s eyes sharpen, and a wave of pure iciness sweeps through the room, and Hyunjae thinks I need to be anywhere but here.
Presumably, the fool Hunter at the center of the lobby realizes the same, but they’re rooted to the spot. It’s their best decision so far—Hyunjae doubts Han Yoojin would take lightly to them running, especially with the way he’s stalking predatorily forward. (And of every Hunter that Hyunjae has met so far, he doesn’t think he’s ever seen one who he can understand hunting. Not like Han Yoojin is doing.)
Han Yoojin reaches the Hunter and places a hand on their shoulder. Hyunjae can see the way little rips appear in the fabric under his fingers, his delicate metal claws sinking into their skin. He bares his teeth—no one here would be stupid enough to call that a smile—and hisses, ever so calmly, “My brother? Is far more human than you could ever hope to be.”
The Hunter is frozen, a deer in headlights, as Yoojin curls his claws around their neck and instructs them carefully to never, ever come back. Hyunjae dares to look away and finds Yoohyun’s face relaxed, softness easing the tension around his eyes.
In this order:
Hyunjae thinks, They really do love each other.
He looks back at Han Yoojin and thinks, Oh, his teeth are—quite sharp.
He feels his heartbeat pick up and thinks, Ah.
*
To Song Taewon: Strength and Brother’s Keeper.
(Moon Hyuna is shouting a warning. Taewon lets Hyunjae drag him along as he flicks through his inventory, the only steady thing in a world rapidly turning upside down, pulling item after Mana-boosting item out, will it be enough, it has to be enough—)
*
Taewon agreed to meet Han Yoohyun’s brother—he’d been summoned, just as Hyunjae had—but he thought they would go to the guild building. Instead, Kim Sunghan picks them up in a car with a courteous (if curt) greeting, and they’re driving away from Dodam territory.
Taewon texts Hyunjae, demanding answers, but the man is as frustratingly vague as ever, only saying he’ll meet them after. Taewon considers asking Yoohyun about it, but the boy looks tired as he stares out of the car window. It’s Taewon’s own fault for making him run around the police station earlier trying to find him, when he could’ve just messaged Yoohyun to pick him up from home.
Kim Sunghan pulls off the main road, and in a few minutes they’re drawing up to massive wrought iron gates. Dodam Kiseungsu Nursery, proclaims the sign overhead, and Taewon blinks as he realizes just where they are, wondering if it’s even safe to—
Yoohyun tumbles out of the car almost as soon as they get to a bare stretch of road. “We’ll walk,” he calls, and Taewon fumbles to follow him, shooting Kim Sunghan an apologetic look that the man shrugs off.
They’re ambushed almost immediately. Instinct makes Taewon jolt backwards, reaching out to grab Yoohyun, but he’s stepped away, towards the razor-sharp beak of the massive gryphon in front of them—
“Hello, Blue,” Yoohyun greets politely, dipping his head in greeting. The gryphon chirps, apparently peacefully, and touches its closed beak very, very gently to his chest. Then it draws back and stares at Taewon.
“Hello, Blue,” Taewon mimics instinctively, following up with a nod slightly deeper than Yoohyun’s. Blue clacks its beak excitedly, jumping forward—Taewon flinches backwards, but a quick fingersnap from Yoohyun stops Blue dead in its tracks.
“Gentle,” he instructs, and Blue contritely bows its head, before tapping Taewon with its beak. “Good girl.” Taewon feels a thrill go through him at the contact, and tentatively raises a hand. He means to glance over at Yoohyun to make sure touching is permitted, but Blue doesn’t wait for that, shoving her head into his palm and chirping contentedly. Taewon strokes her soft feathers, silently awed.
A moment later, Blue withdraws and goes over to Yoohyun, butting her head against his hip and pushing into him determinedly. “Thank you,” Yoohyun says solemnly, and starts walking again, heading towards the building at the center of the Nursery compound. Taewon keeps pace, looking around as they go; the nursery is really just a fantastical version of an animal sanctuary, he realizes the further they go, just with special living and training spaces. They come across all manner of beasts—some sprawled lazily here and there, some chasing each other in childish enjoyment. Yoohyun says hello to every single monster the same way he did for Blue—nod and greet them by name—then gazes expectantly at Taewon, who repeats his actions every time. And each monster comes to prod or purr or squawk or hiss at Yoohyun in apparent greeting. Some of the friendlier ones even nudge Taewon.
It’s—a little overwhelming, but at least what’s wanted of Taewon is clear. That’s why he gets along with the kid to begin with.
Yoohyun leads them into the elevator, but doesn’t press any of the floor buttons, and Taewon opens his mouth to ask—but then the hawk perched on the railing inside shrieks its greeting and swats a wing at the panel, hitting the second floor button. Taewon blinks at it, thinks over the nudges and waved paws and head tosses, and realizes that the monsters have been giving them directions the whole time. Huh. Fascinating. He closes his mouth and follows.
Eventually, they happen upon a large training hall. Monsters lie sleeping across the floor, some hanging off the wall pillars and ceiling rafters. Right at the center of the room, half-buried under a mass of red fur, is a human body.
“Hyung,” Yoohyun calls, and the body stirs. Taewon stiffens as every single monster in the room opens its eyes and turns to look directly at them.
Yoohyun doesn’t even seem fazed, just greeting the monsters in his path as he picks his way through to his brother. Right, the meeting, Taewon thinks, rallying himself, and follows suit, greeting and sidestepping wayward limbs and tails.
By the time they reach the center of the room, Han Yoojin is sitting upright. “Hello,” he says with a warm smile, and when his eyes meet Taewon’s, an abrupt sense of safety settles over him.
*
To Moon Hyuna: Stamina and In The Family.
(Hyuna tries not to look back. There’s so much blood everywhere. She focuses on the small body of her teammate in her arms, adjusting her grip to accommodate Yerim’s twisting as she frantically dons every Mana-increasing item Hyunjae and Taewon and Yoohyun pass along.
Hyuna tries not to think about the way Bak Mingyu had screamed before the air had been ripped from his lungs—or, more precisely, before the lungs had been ripped from his chest. She doesn’t do a very good job of it.)
*
“So,” Hyuna hums, tilting her head towards Song Taewon. “Why’s the kid go into dungeons at all?”
“To get stronger,” he replies. His voice is low, steady, grounding. Hyuna can see why he was picked for the team. “Even remaining an F-rank, the more experience he has, the better off he is.” His next words take on a slightly different rhythm, like he’s mimicking someone else. “Stronger is safer, after all.”
…Safer, huh?
“That’s where you come in, naturally.” Sung Hyunjae smiles at her as he reclines on the sofa, smooth and charming. “You have quite the reputation, Moon Hyuna-ssi.” The reputation in question—fighter, leader, protector—goes unsaid.
Hyuna gives him a lazy grin in return, leaning back and sinking her weight into her own worn-soft armchair. Han Yoohyun’s team has their own office at Dodam headquarters, though it seems to have been renovated into something far closer to Team Breaker’s ‘rec room’ (really just Hyuna’s own living room) than an actual office. Besides the sofas and oversized TV, there’s a large pet bed in one corner right beside an equally large beanbag, as well as cabinets along one wall stocked with books and games. And on the wall opposite that, directly behind Hyuna’s chair, is a door left cracked ever-so-slightly open.
Hyuna tips her head back towards it and picks lightly through her skills. Sound control is mere steps away from air control, and while her Mana isn’t quite enough to block sound altogether, carrying it further isn’t hard at all. Strands of hair tickle her face as the wind brings wisps of voices to her ear.
(“…ius. Ulna.”
“Urrr.”
“Ulll. Ulna.”
“Rrrr.”
A soft, disappointed sigh. “Hyung.”
A quieter growl, somehow apologetic. The soft rustle of moving cloth and paper. “Okay. Here, your carpals. Car-pal.”
“Kuh. Karrrrrr.”
“No, straighten your—that doesn’t bend that way. Straight. Yes. Here. Carpal.”)
Sung Hyunjae is watching her (fluttering hair) with a knowing look, and she raises an eyebrow at him in a silent challenge. “Your reputations don’t fall far behind. Care to confirm the rumors?”
“Rumors?”
“About your skill sets,” Hyuna clarifies. “I don’t need to know your exact skills, mind you. Just give me a general idea of how the team runs.”
A week ago, Moon Hyuna was sent a message directly from the Dodam Guild Leader, offering her a position as guide for Han Yoohyun’s Hunter team, and invited to the guild building for further discussions, should she be interested. About half an hour ago, Hyuna had showed up for the meeting, made late by redirected traffic from the very dungeon break that Han Yoojin had spent the morning handling. About five minutes ago, she’d grown tired of listening to the guild leader murmur away behind that inner door and stepped towards it, ready to give him a piece of her mind. Moon Hyuna is not a tool for self-important rich men to order around and keep waiting as they please, and she’s not going to play the part of loyal bodyguard if this is how she’s going to be treated. She’s got people she actually loves that she could be watching out for instead.
Five minutes ago, she’d gone to wrench open the door and stopped when the crack was only centimeters wide. She’d stared at the Han brothers, sitting together on the carpeted floor. Han Yoohyun bent over a textbook, holding his brother’s arm close to his chest as he tapped at his joints. Han Yoojin, still smudged with dirt and blood, resting his head on his brother’s shoulder, trying to sound out syllables around fangs he doesn’t have, curling his hands carefully to keep Yoohyun clear of claws that don’t tip his fingers. Clearly not fully recovered from the morning’s attack, clearly not all there, but still trying to keep his brother safe. Still watching out for him.
Hyuna stared at them curled into and around each other in equal measure, and she saw the very picture of comfort and security and love that they made, and she decided, okay, maybe there’s something she doesn’t know about why she’s here. Maybe she doesn’t know these people well enough to make snap judgements.
So when a hand rested on her shoulder and Sung Hyunjae drew her and her attention away with a friendly smile, Song Taewon keeping watch behind him, she decided, okay, well, she’s going to get to know these people. She’s going to get to know this job. She’s going to do it well.
And by the time it’s done, who knows. Maybe it won’t be a job. Hyuna’s time is best spent watching out for those she cares about, after all.
*
To Bak Yerim: Agility and Unity Is Strength.
(Yerim screams, too panicked for words, and reaches out—everyone grabs her arms—she goes for her skills, begging please, please, please as tears stream down her cheeks—
Her fingers catch on Hermes’ Sandals, and wind screams past their skin so fast it burns but they’re away they’re getting away—
Not fast enough.)
(Not too far away, a gate opens.)
*
He’s in the university bookstore.
Yerim stands a little taller, tugs her collar neater, and does her damn best to act like she’s meant to be here. (It’s not really working.) (It doesn’t matter.) She walks into the store with her head held high.
His bodyguard’s eyes land on her immediately, and he’s already frowning. No. She can’t have been made so quickly, not before she’s even spoken to him. She discards the idea of confirming that it’s him (the face makes it obvious enough) and opens her mouth.
“Is it true that your hyung can Awaken people?”
Han Yoohyun looks up, and Bak Yerim watches as his brows furrow, his gaze fixed somewhere near her ear. “Do I know you?” he asks.
“Yoohyun-ssi,” the bodyguard’s saying. Yerim’s breath catches. No, no, come on. Please.
The bell jingles over the front door. “—there you are, what’s been taking you so—” says a woman’s deep voice, abruptly cut off. Yerim risks a glance to the side; two adults, a redheaded woman and a blond man. Han Yoohyun’s teammates. Staring at her with those same furrowed brows. Dammit. One more try, and then she’ll run for it.
She turns back to Han Yoohyun, who’s looking at his teammates. “Can your hyung Awaken people,” she demands. It comes out as less of a question and more of a plea, and she shoves back the tears prickling threateningly at the corners of her eyes.
Han Yoohyun frowns and looks back towards her, watching her ear again. “No,” he says.
Yerim’s lungs feel like they’re collapsing. Shit. Hell. Fucking goddammit.
“But,” Han Yoohyun adds. “Even if he can’t. He doesn’t like kids being in trouble.”
Her head jerks up (when had it dropped?) and she can’t stop the tears spilling down her cheeks at the sudden movement. She gapes at Han Yoohyun, who’s looking at his bodyguard(‘s tie…?). He doesn’t say anything more; instead, there’s movement on her other side, and the red-haired woman is placing a hand on her shoulder.
“Hey, there,” she says, so gently. “We can get you help. Whatever’s wrong, we can help.”
Yerim starts to sob, and lets them lead her out of the store, warm, guiding hands on her back.

To Yoohyun: Mentality, and Do As I Say.
(The beast—
Yoohyun’s on the verge of a meltdown, so he’s trying not to think about it. Which is hard when he has to track it to make sure they’re all dodging right. Not that—Not that it’s going to help for much longer.
Yoohyun swallows back a scream. Or maybe it’s a sob.
He doesn’t want to die.
What he wants is his—
The monster goes still. Yoohyun and the others almost trip over their own feet as a sudden tingling sweeps through their bodies. There’s a furious roar.
Hyung, Yoohyun thinks, tears of relief springing to his eyes.)
*
Yoohyun is sitting on the training field picking at the grass. Peace is curled up against his left hip, snorting in his sleep. Leaning against his right shoulder, meanwhile, is hyung. He’s calling out commands to the monsters lapping the field, presumably following them with mental orders to help them learn the commands faster. Yerim, wearing a tracksuit under a Nursery-standard apron, chases after the monsters and corrals the rowdier ones back onto the track every time they try to bolt towards hyung, who’s laughing under his breath at her worked-up shrieks.
“Hyung?” Yoohyun whispers softly. So softly that he’s not sure his brother will even have heard him, but his brother looks over immediately with a quizzical expression. Yoohyun chews on his lip. He knows what he wants to ask and how to phrase it, it’s just—he’s not sure what the answer will be. And that scares him.
Hyung clicks his tongue and digs into his apron pocket, pulling out some flavored chewy candy. Yoohyun takes it gratefully—oh, lemon flavor—but the moment he bites down on it, a wave of discomfort slows his movements. Even Peace notices his sudden stillness, raising his head and blinking slowly at him.
“Yoohyun? What’s wrong?”
“Why did you get monster-based skills?” he asks.
It’s not as though he can’t hear the whispers, though most people don’t dare say anything to his face. He believes that he’s human, because hyung told him so and he never lies to him, but hyung also told him that people and monsters get skills based on their aptitude. Hyung always says that Yoohyun’s the best thing in his life, the best thing he’s ever spent his time on. And nowadays he spends his time training monsters not to bite.
Hyung’s brows furrow and he opens his arms for a hug. Yoohyun leans in and rests his head on his brother’s shoulder. “My skills, huh,” hyung hums. “Well, back when the dungeon shock happened, I was very scared—”
“You don’t get scared.”
“I do if it’s about you.” Hyung pets his hair. “When the dungeon shock happened and monsters were running wild everywhere, all I could think was, Where’s my brother? Where’s my Yoohyun? So I Awakened with a radar.”
One that tracks monsters. Yoohyun swallows.
“And it tracked every monster around me, and every person around me, and when I reached out really far I could see you on it. And you were safe, so I could go after the people who weren’t instead.”
Yoohyun blinks, stunned. “Wait, it shows you people?”
“All my skills work on all living beings,” hyung answers easily. “It wouldn’t help if I couldn’t see you were clear of the monsters.”
“But—” Yoohyun feels kind of stupid. “I thought it was just monsters.”
“That’s what I told the Association. But like I always say, you have to keep some aces hidden up your sleeve.” Hyung is still stroking his hair. “I didn’t mention it because it never seemed that important.”
Something settles inside him. “Oh,” he says. “Okay. Good.”
Hyung’s face is buried in Yoohyun’s hair now, and he can feel him smile. “You’re not worried about my control skills?”
“Do they work on people too?”
“Yeah. Anything lower-ranked than me.”
Yoohyun thinks about that. “It’s okay,” he decides. “I trust you.”
Hyung doesn’t say anything to that. Yoohyun leans back so he can look at him, and finds that his eyes are soft. “Okay,” he echoes. “Good.”
*
With every last drop of thirty years’ worth of love—
From your brother, Yoojin.
(Yoojin fights for as long as he can, drawing the monster’s attention with bombs and claws and bites and screaming me me me eyes on ME inside its head. But he’s one difficult target ranked too low to command it right, and the F-ranks are five easy ones for whom commands won’t change anything, so when the monster lunges, it’s not towards him. And he may be able to sense living creatures (so close, too close), but he can’t sense the effective range of attacks, so whenever he goes to blow up one of the monster’s limbs, he hesitates and his eyes track damage splash zones and he thinks what if—
Yoojin’s running low on blood, and Yerim’s running low on Mana for instant transports, and everyone’s running low on energy to keep moving.
Yoohyun stumbles and hits the ground. Yoojin feels the monster’s claws stretch out, and knows they’ll come down on his brother’s prone form. Yoohyun’s eyes are wide, and he’s not getting up fast enough, and he’s not strong enough.
One versus one, with five at risk. Five versus one, with zero at risk.
The choice, in the end, is a simple one.
Yoojin braces a foot against the ground, calls on Legacy, and pushes off—)
*
“Senior! Hurry! Senior!”
“What? What— Oh, no.”
“No, no, no, come on—no—”
*
(Yoojin pushes Yoohyun out of the way.
His little brother can see the decision on his face, he realizes distantly. There’s horror rising in Yoohyun’s eyes, a scream rising to his lips. One hand rising, reaching out for him.
It won’t reach.
Yoojin smiles, small and fond, and closes his eyes.)
*
[Will sealed. Your Legacy will live on.]
*
“Fuck. Fuck—!”
“Can we please focus? We have to figure out what to do—”
“Excuse me, Furnace’s friend just DIED, we just lost all chances at getting him back—”
“I’m well aware. Sit down and focus.”
“...”
“…S- Senior? I have—I’ve got an idea. We can fix this.”

UPDATE: The S-Ranks That I Raised (207)
Just like when we were younger, I hugged my brother who’d come back to me. Was he trying to do everything he hadn’t been able to do the last three years? Because it felt like he was getting more and more childish.
Read Chapter 207: Abnormality (1) now!

TRAVERSE - Chapter ¹
(manhwas x reader)
"Remind me what I have to do again?" You asked the system while changing your clothes to something more simple and ragged.
"You will pretend to be an E slash F rank with a 'hidden' SS skill that has yet to be unlocked to catch the attention of the main character, Han Yoojin. To add the extra effort, you'll be dressed up like one!" The screen repeated. You raise an eyebrow, "And what is this so called hidden skill?"
"Morph. Or preferably said, shapeshift."
You finish your dress up by changing the appearance of your bag into a duffel bag. "Shapeshift? What does the main character would see in an shapeshifting skill?" You questioned, pondering over the decision of the chosen skill. "Think of it as being the bait. And also if you manage to get very close with the main character, you will hear his secrets by the man himself!" The screen exploded a holographic party popper with extra sound effects. You roll your eyes, "What good does that come out of?" The system managed to shrug, "You get extra points—" "I'm in."
As you now walk through the busy street, looking around while waiting to get stopped by Han Yoojin, the main character of the story you're in. "Are you sure this is the right place?" You whispered. "Are you doubting me?" The system childishly question back. You sigh in exasperation, "No.." Before the system had a chance to confirm, you were suddenly stopped by someone tapping your shoulder. 'Must be him,' You thought, turning around to see who it actually was. Turns out, you were wrong! It was instead - a creepy man.
"Hey there pretty~ Would you like to come with me and my buddies? It doesn't seem like you have a job~" The creepy man disgustingly flirted while licking his lips, obviously not really looking at your face but instead glancing down at your chest/thighs. Your nose scrunched up in disgust and backed away from him. The man saw your action and grab you by the arm, "Come on~ don't be shy~ we're friendly~" You sneered, "Get away from me, you-"
"Stop right there!" Someone yelled. 'FINALLY!' You felt relieved that the actual man that you were searching and waiting for, finally came to save you. The creepy man throws you down the ground when the protagonist runs towards the both of you. "Get your hands off of them." Han yoojin, stand in between the both of you and tries to shield you away from the creepy man. Said man simply sneered at the shorter, about to hit him until someone else stopped him.
The someone else in question turns out to be a big buff man that looks to be someone's bodyguard. That man is Kim Sunghan, currently at this point of the story, is an A rank. Just by his sheer size and terrifying facial expression, he managed to scare the creepy man off. "Tch! Whatever, bitch!" The creepy man spit and scurry away with his tail between his legs. You glared at his back for a moment before quickly putting up a weak facade when Han Yoojin turn towards you asking, "Are you okay?" He offers his hand towards you who is still on the ground. Kim Sunghan behind him, 'I can feel his judging eyes.' You sweat dropped.
"Y-yes.. I'm fine.. thank you, mister..!" 'I want to die.' You mentally cringed at your acting but work's work you guessed. You grab his hand and weakly tries to stand up, keeping up the pathetic wet cat act to convince them both. You noticed how Han Yoojin's eyes seemed to widen a bit and you immediately know he had use his skill and saw the locked hidden skill the system gave you. The protagonist regain his posture and rubbed his nape bashfully , "I know this might seem weird but... would you like to work under me?"
"I'm sorry I don't do that stuff," even if what you say is technically scripted, you, with common sense, will say that exact same thing when someone asks you that. Kim Sunghan raise an eyebrow as Han Yoojin animated move his hands in panicked motion and tried to clear things up, "N-no! That's not what I mean!! I mean as in like a helper!" Han Yoojin stopped his movements and calmly tried to explain more, "I-I promise it's nothing bad! You just have to clean and cook if you can do that!—" 'I feel offended.' "—And I'll offer you a home, food and training!"
"Training...?" You murmured loud enough for him to hear as part of the act. You know he's going to spit some bullshit that is technically true but still, "Yes! Training! I sense great potential in you and I can help you unlocked that potential!" Han Yoojin beamed at you confidently, as if he doesn't sound crazy if it weren't for the fact that you knew his intentions. However, you continued on with your facade and smiled hopefully at him, "You really think so...?" He nods at your question. "Oh thank you so much mister! I am at your care! I owe you my life!" Okay maybe that's a little far, you thought. "No need, I'm just glad you're okay and accepted my offer! Oh, before I forget, I'm Han Yoojin! This guy right here," he points to the buff guy, "is Kim Sunghan, my bodyguard! So don't be too intimidated..." he laughs nervously when he saw your 'scared' expression at the buff man. "What's your name?"
You smile softly, "I'm [Name]. It's a pleasure to meet you, Han Yoojin."

Moments That I Want Tattooed On My Forehead From S-Classes That I Raised Chapters 1-30
yáll I'm doing a reread of the series and compiling all of my favorite moments/doing slight recaps to remember what happens and in what chapters. there will be spoilers and i will be mentioning events that happen in future chapters beyond the ones I am currently referencing. you have been warned!!!
Anyway's lets kick this off with moments from chapters 1-30!!
Chapters 1-20:
god. yoojin is really insane right from the get go there are so many things in the first 15 or so chapters i completely forgot about including:
kim sunghan using the hunter mall PA system to make a lost child announcement for yoojin. hyj is truly an unsupervised force of chaos from the start
hyj nodding along as myungwoo recounts his tragic backstory like he was there he’s such a liar oh my god male wife manipulate mansplain fr
yerim clocking yoojin immediately upon meeting him for the first time and telling him "he looks like someone who's being going through shit for five years"
chapter 20-30
yoojin seeing himself in pre-SS skill myungwoo…realizing he has to go help him bc he can’t let someone suffer the way he did…i’m love them...i want to see their friendship thrive
myungwoo praising yoojin and yoojin getting embarrassed/not believing him so so funny and so sad. yoojin you are so talented (at murder and lying but that's besides the point)
yoojin being surprised that people care for him after he keeps helping them out and just in general being amazing lmfao...pre-regression yoohyun we need to have a talk (i need to throttle him)
yerim and myungwoo competing for his affection is peak comedy. they’re so petty
kim sunghan and yoojin going to the club together by accident… sjdjekdkekdk...and then yoojin getting white girl wasted...iconic
yoojin flying by the seat of his pants and everyone else seeing this as cool calculated behavior…
yoojin casually mentioning he confessed someone pre-regression and that they slapped him??? like i’m gonna need some elaboration on this one chief. who did you confess to????
yoojin subconsciously not wanting the key word targets to only care for him because of his skill.. ooffff…this will definitely not be a concerning plot point later...
